I have never experienced such a rude and unfriendly service person. The waffles were recommended to us and were very dry and inedible. The waitress responded to our query in a very rude and insulting manner.

Location great, café and seating, especially the terrace, very nice. However, the worst cappuccino around.

We have our monthly get-together, which takes place regularly in Café Hauptwache. The buffet is always varied and rich. We haven't had any with the service either problems. Everything great!! The food was very delicious, the atmosphere is very comfortable, and the waiters are very attentive and helpful. I was there the other day, and a Portuguese waiter served me very well, that's why I came back. And today Aisha helped me, a very nice and cheerful girl. I will return many more times and I recommend coming, whether to eat or to have something very fresh on a good terrace.

A very pleasant place in the center, especially the terrace. I like to have a drink there and maybe eat a little something when I'm in Frankfurt.

Great casual spot to have a bite and a beer (or wine) in the heart of Hauptwache. You will find your traditional German dishes with a solid and reliable taste. They also have large TVs, so it makes for a great atmosphere to watch sport events.

Ordered a beer that is on the menu, they brought me some other beer that wasn't on the menu and charged me double the price. Avoid this tourist trap place if you don't want to be scammed

Great Location. But, Bad service. I've ordered 0,5l Pils + Gref Völsing, and got a Hefeweizen after 20 minutes later. I told the waitress, she took it away - only for another waiter to bring me another Hefeweizen. He was fast, but a few minutes later I also told him that I didn't order that. He took it, brought me the Pils a little later. As of 54 minutes after the original order I'm still waiting for the Gref Völsing. It's a sausage heated in warm water - there not many other people here. In the meanwhile I enjoyed a nice (and loud) demonstration right next by. I will never come here again. Working in the service industry myself, they need to get their stuff together here... With all due respect to this establishment. Goodbye 👋

Absolutely not recommended. On July 25th between 8-9 p.m. I was in this café with someone. The order was taken by a gentleman about 1.80 tall, dark hair, a dark three-day beard. I ordered a cappuccino and it arrived like coffee crema. My sister ordered a drink from Schweppes Wildberry. A Lillet WildBerry arrived. When it was pointed out that we had ordered a drink from Schweppes, my sister was assumed to have ordered the Lillet. We then replied, as non-alcohol drinkers, that we had not ordered an alcoholic drink. There was no apology, just a grimace and the suggestion that the Schweppes drink would be brought later. After about 20 minutes no drink arrived, so we got up annoyed and wanted to leave. The gentleman brought the bill completely inattentively because the Lillet Wildberry was still included in the bill. When we pointed this out, eyes rolled again. As described above, absolutely not recommended. If you don't want to wait tables and can be polite, then you really shouldn't do it.

In a nice place with a large outdoor seating area, an interesting offer. Unfortunately, the non-functioning service takes at least 10 minutes before someone comes to you. The food is okay, but it's so ordinary, more of a tourist trap than a good restaurant.

Cozy cafe where you can get a good cup of coffee in the middle of the city and choose from a variety of cakes or cookies. You can also eat hot food there.

The food is okay, although the portion of schnitzel/fries was unfortunately too small for me. You can't complain about the lovely atmosphere and conversation opportunities. I'd be happy to come back if the opportunity arises, but I'll have to try other dishes to make a final judgement.

The worst experience ever. We were not treated like the other customer. The waiters out right ignored us for almost 45 minutes I don't know if its because we were black or they are just rude to other customers. We were made to pay for our meal before we had even finished eating. The waitress made some excuse about having to go home early (like we were going to leave without paying). Anyway I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. The food was awful

Just ordered an iced chocolate. It is inedible - only tastes like milk. A ball of ice cream and lots of cream. The waiter doesn't accept the complaint and makes us pay. We wanted to complain to the boss. The waiter said but she won't come to the front. Customer service a disaster! Tourist rip off!!!

In a very central location. The building and the outdoor area where we sat was pleasant. We sat down for Sunday lunch as we couldn't find any options other than fast food around. It wouldn't be our 1st choice..it looks quite touristy but the dishes we chose <schnitzel and salad> were ok... A nice cafe, despite the high prices (almost €7 for a glass of ice cream). However, it wasn't nice of the waitress when she had to emphasize several times when paying that tips were not included in the price quoted.

Unfortunately it wasn't good. Instead of a decaffeinated coffee, I got a very strong one and it also came without milk and sugar. It's a shame, it could be MUCH better (maybe look at the competition?), especially when it's as empty as it was when I visited.

Was here again today, would like to give it a lot more chances, but it's a complete disaster The location is a dream, church bells, lively, right in the middle of the Zeil! Cappuccino super delicious! The service is a complete disaster, I could see how guests left and were extremely annoyed. The waitress walks past you x times and asks when I can order? “In a moment” and then it takes another 15 minutes. Despite the tip, super unfriendly! It was really the last time!!

Bruised? Does the system have? Is it disrespectful rip-off of guests? In our case, the waiter at Café Hauptwache at table number 344 with four guests just overcharged us four times, roughly one or two euros too much per guest. And this despite the fact that his electronic handheld shows him the correct invoice amount. So he can't read? Or is there something else behind it? When asked about his obviously incorrect billing, the waiter just stammered awkwardly, pushed overpaid money onto the table and quickly disappeared. Our attempt to contact the boss and ask him about this misconduct was met with a smug laugh from a fellow waiter and the sentence "Boss not there!" answered. Make your own judgment when reading this description, I made mine today: I don't feel comfortable there as a guest, Café Hauptwache will never see me again!

Nice location to sit outside that is close to the train station. Food was good but expensive and a bit basic. The service was slow but they didn’t seem to have many servers for how many tables they had. Overall good but I wouldn’t go back expect for a quick meal before getting on the train to the airport.

The atmosphere is excellent, food is also good. However, for tourists who use Wise, the restaurant is not good. They don't accept Wise, so if you want to go, it's important to have another form of payment.

Unfortunately the quality of food has significantly dropped since my last visit, which is some time ago. The quality of meat is poor and the kitchen is nothing like it use to be. So this will be my last visit unless i just pop in for only a beer on the terrace.

The service is exemplary slow and only partially friendly. The ambience can be improved in a Frankfurter style. The prices aren't good but they're not crazy either.

I've been eating/drinking here quite often, alone and also with someone. The restaurant is centrally located directly at the Hauptwache and there is some seating both inside and outside. At the European Championships there were also televisions that were positioned inside or outside depending on the weather. There are many different dishes - savory and sweet - cakes, waffles and Hessian dishes as well as vegetarian dishes. In terms of service, I had experienced a lot from quick and very friendly to long waits and inattention. For example, you were only given a menu if you asked questions, or at the time of the European Championship there was no indication of what was currently being offered. The menu card was made of paper in a fairly environmentally friendly way, but from a hygienic point of view it cannot be disinfected and the card was also a bit dirty. In summary: Restaurant well located with a diverse selection of regional, vegetarian and Hessian products, hot and cold dishes and drinks with potential for improvement in terms of service and the possibility of sitting inside or outside.

We were there for the European Championship game. Everything was disorganized. One didn't know what the other was doing, the best thing was that going to the toilets smelled really bad of urine. Absolutely unacceptable. Personally, I won't go there again.

This is a restaurant you should visit at least once if you come to Frankfurt. We recommend seating on the terrace where the humidity is low and the breeze is pleasant. Despite catering to tourists, I think the prices are on the low side. For 30 euros for two people, you can order beer and two snacks. The staff are friendly and come right away. Of course you can also use your credit card. I guess the tip was included, but I wasn't told anything about it, so I just paid for what I ate.

They added 10% tip without me knowing. Food is ok. Please be careful when you pay.

Goulash soup is the ultimate test for every kitchen. Was good and solid. The waitresses are extremely friendly and professional - that has to be emphasized. Prices still acceptable for this location.

Atypical café in the city center. Very pretty place, very beautiful building nicely maintained, superb covered terrace, even in winter, it's really great! Fast, efficient and smiling service, small menu but quality, really nice place to have a good time.

We tasted two really good dishes, one is the truly excellent Grube Sobe, the same goes for the other dish which was basically a sort of potato pie with gherkins and meatballs. Really very good. The problem with this place is the very fast and unattentive service.

Breakfast: 3,50€ for a cup of coffee, 4,50€ for a flat half-dry stale croissant that might have been fresh two days before. Seeing the building from outside is nice enough, I don't think I'll go there again to have something to eat.

Horrible service! We waited there for 30 minutes just to place an order, but ended up leaving without being served. Even though the waiters saw us, and I even greeted one from a very close distance, she acted as if she was too busy, simply turned her head, and walked away quickly. It's a shame that such a unique and historic building is managed by such a terrible business!

Worst Espresso i have ever had in my life. Waited 20 minutes for an espresso and hot chocolate. By the time the drinks came they were cold and the espresso was horrible.

Delicious taste with quick service!

The location was very good right in the center of happening area of town. It took 10 minutes for someone to take the order though it was not totally full. We placed the order for vodka tonic and green salad. Shockingly the guests who came after us, got their order before us. Our lady server was more busy in cleaning the tables and taking fresh orders. Then we ordered Veg Burger which again took more time than usual. Our server looked totally stressed out, no smile on face. The bill came with a note that tip is not included. We gave the tip though we did not feel like. The tip should be expected for a good service not reminded for bad service.

Visit the Café Hauptwache to have something to eat and drink. Two ordered schnitzel (much small for €20) and a tarte flambée. Good taste. Service also very friendly. 3 Spritz were also ordered. When it came to paying, service initially came without an invoice, everyone was separated, we clearly paid too much. When the invoice came when asked, the waitress saw her mistake, but as can be seen in the photo, the invoice was apparently issued randomly. Which is initially illegal and does not at all match the amounts previously added up by the waitress. Quite unfortunate for a restaurant location run by a company... Also an interesting comment from the waitress after pointing out the composition of the bill: “cancellation is not welcomed”.

The service was friendly, but unfortunately he also easily lost track of where he was supposed to bring something. My bill was in my favor until I brought it to their attention. A cyclist was booked on the next table. The food was standard.

Habe da der Darjeeling nicht da war ein Kännchen Earl Grey bestellt. Es war zwar Eilles Tee und der Beutel separat, aber wenn das Wasser aus der Kaffeemaschine kommt und man den Tee mit Wasser aufgießt was nicht heiß genug ist, schmeckt der beste Tee nach nichts. 04,60 € einfach in den Wind geschossen. Ich werde mit Sicherheit nie wieder hierher gehen, vor allem wenn ich merke das es der Servicekraft egal ist. Und ich wohne in Frankfurt, also keine Touristin die nur einmal kommen würde!

We only drank coffee and tea. The tea was very fresh. The coffee good. The service was good. We sat for quite a long time without being chased out. But we were still not forgotten.

I haven't eaten here but it is a great spot to sit on a sunny day and people watch. The outdoor seating area is quite large and the service relatively prompt. Although it is also adjacent a church and when the bells ring it is really hard to hear anything

Unfortunately very disappointed 😥..I ordered a currywurst with fries 🍟 for 11€, you can get much better at every fries shop. The curry sauce offered turned out to be pure ketchup. The sausage was neutral in taste. In the green sauce with potatoes that my wife ordered, she had the feeling that she was eating grains of sand. Only my daughter's Caesar salad was acceptable. When paying, the friendly service miscalculated to our disadvantage. In the future we will only order drinks at this location!

We were there for breakfast and weren't happy at all. For the price you should be able to expect more. The rolls were really small and totally dry, they tasted like they had been made the day before. In addition, some side dishes were missing from the plate.

Die neuen Möbel im Kontrast zu den großen historischen Fotos des mit viel Geschichte behafteten Gebäudes gefallen und strahlen einen besonderen Flair aus. Die Toiletten sind leider immer noch original 70-er Jahre. Die Lage mitten in der City sowie die ganztägigen Öffnungszeiten sind perfekt. Das kann man vom Service und den Speisen und Getränken leider nicht behaupten. Liebloses Convience-Food als Frankfurter Spezialitäten getarnt. Fertig gemischte Cocktails aus der Zapfanlage bestehend aus Wasser, Zucker und Farbstoff mit einem Spritzer Billigalkohol. Die Weine schlecht aber teuer. Der Service nicht zugewandt. Es wird Zeit, dass hier ein neue "würdige" Gastronomie hinkommt, die nicht auf Abzocke von Touristen aus ist, die sowieso nie wiederkommen

2 Matjesfilets mit einer einzigen Zwiebelscheibe und drei dünnen Gurkenscheiben Auf der Karte steht " 2 Matjesfilets mit Schmand, Zwiebeln und Gurken" und Kartoffeln. Das Ambiente ist sehr schön. Leider habe ich den Fehler gemacht, mich nach drinnen zu setzen und wurde somit unfreiwillig Zeugin des sehr lautstarken Gespräches einmal des Mannes hinter der Theke, eines weiteren Angestellten und eines lautstarken Gastes an der Theke, ich bin nun über die Champagnerpreise seit Beginn der Lehre des Mannes hinter der Theke informiert. Bedient wurde ich sehr zuvorkommen und sehr freundlich von einer Dame mit kurzen roten Haaren. Dann kam das Matjesfilet mit Zwiebeln und Gurken und Schmand und Kartoffeln. Es gab 2 Matjesfilets in völlig neutralem Schmand mit Kartoffeln. Absolut geschmacksneutral. An der Seite lag eine einzige (!) Zwiebelscheibe und drei kleine Gurkenscheiben. So sieht kein Matjesfilet mit Zwiebeln und Gurken aus. Wieso wird hier an Zwiebeln und Gurken gespart? Immerhin hatte der Herr hinter der Theke mit seinem Gast vor der Theke lautstark Spass und Freude im gemeinsamen Gespräch. Und ja: Ich habe bereits vor Ort meine Anmerkungen kundgetan.

Heute, 31.3.2024, im Cafe fragte ich, ob man eine Speise auch als kleinere, halbe Portion bekommen könnte. Antwort: "Ja, aber das kostet das gleiche wie die normale Portion." 👎👎👎👎👎 Unglaublich!!!

Please explain what carbonara is this!? Scrambled eggs carbonara?? Please this is by far the worst carbonara i have ever eaten. Better off use cream instead. And look at the pathetic 15euro fish and chip. Horrible place. DO NOT COME!!! Just come for the coffee, coffee is decent. Food is horrible.

As a schnitzel lover I knew I had to go eat schnitzel on my day in Frankfurt! Didn’t have a lot of time to spare to pick a restaurant but I walked past this one and it looked so cute. Outside of the building is especially nice, inside decor could maybe get upgraded a bit. Frankfurt steak with the green sauce is a recommender for anyone that loves schnitzel. Service was quick but friendly which was nice as I was in a hurry.

Centrally located café with various dishes. The drinks are reasonably priced. I found the price of the cakes to be excessive for the size and quality. Despite the large number of guests, the service was very polite and quick.

Ich war hier Anfang März. Es handelt sich um ein Café/Restaurant mitten in der Innenstadt. Ein historisches Gebäude mit großer Terrasse und etwa 60-70 Innenplätzen. Die Einrichtung ist modern und etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Das Kuchenangebot war überschaubar ( ca. 6 verschiedene Sorten ) und das so gegen 13:00 Uhr an einem Werktag. Das Gebäck war nicht sehr hochwertig. Die „Sachertorte“ meiner Bergleitung kam wohl gerade aus einem Gefrierschrank, sie zeigte noch leichte Eiskristalle. Die beiden Tassen Kaffee waren zwar warm, aber wurden nur nach mehrmaligem Erinnern serviert. Auffallend schmuddelig wirkte die Kellnerin (Bluse war völlig zerknittert und ist wohl mehrere Tage hintereinander getragen…). Beim begleichen der Rechnung, monierte ich den gefrorenen Kuchen und den lauen Kaffee. Die Mitarbeiterin murmelte eine Entschuldigung. Den später angesprochen „Restauranleiter“, der am Eingang sich mit einer Kollegin unterhielt schien es ebenfalls zu langweilen. Schade eigentlich, denn es ist ein schöner zentraler Platz an der eher betonierten tristen Fußgängerzone. Hier werde ich nie mehr wieder hinkommen und auch keine Empfehlung aussprechen.

My experience at a restaurant in Germany was quite disappointing, to say the least. I was part of a large group, and right from the start, we noticed that the staff was not very friendly. However, that wasn't the main issue for us. As a group of vegans/vegetarians, we specifically asked for vegan options. We ordered what was advertised as a "beyond meat burger," but when the food arrived, it was clearly meat. I immediately noticed the mistake and looked around to see others in my group facing the same issue. We asked the waiter multiple times to confirm if it was indeed beyond meat, and each time, he insisted that it was. When we requested to see the packaging or have someone from the kitchen verify, we were told it wasn't possible. This went on for about 30 minutes, with the staff trying to convince us that they served the right dish. Eventually, they admitted that it was a communication error and that we were served meat. To make matters worse, the only other vegetarian option they offered was a green sauce with eggs, which wasn't vegan due to the cream in the sauce. They served that anyway as well. Throughout this ordeal, we were treated with indifference and lacked the respect we deserved as customers. It's clear that the staff didn't understand or respect our vegetarian/vegan values, despite their claims on every platform they're listed on. This experience left me incredibly uncomfortable, and I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. It's crucial for establishments to understand and cater to customers with different lifestyles, allergies and dietary choices, and unfortunately, this restaurant fell short in every aspect. I would still like to mention that the building is very beautiful, unfortunately it doesn’t fix the problem.

We were served 25 meat burgers instead of vegan and then even tried to cover the whole thing up!! We booked the upper room with a large, primarily vegan/vegetarian group. It started with the waiter constantly teasing vegans, for example by constantly calling me a "whiner" or saying things like "And doesn't anyone want a 'real', juicy burger?!" gave of himself. Most people ordered a vegan Beyond burger, anyone who has ever eaten a burger like this knows exactly what it tastes like. So most people quickly became skeptical. Many thought it was absurd that a restaurant would serve meat to a large almost vegan/vegetarian group and then try to cover it up and ate the burger. We then asked about the packaging of the burgers, whereupon we were told that they couldn't show us and that it was "guaranteed 100% vegan Beyond Burger." Then I and others were accused of being paranoid and supposedly it was just "a different kind by Beyond Meat". One of the group, who wasn't vegan/vegetarian, then ordered a "real hamburger". So I was curious to see if it was the same burger or not. The burger wasn't served at first and only when the skepticism grew did the burger arrive. Surprise: it was exactly the same. Only then was it admitted that they had served us meat followed by an apology that I couldn't even buy. It was an apology because it was exposed, not because they were sorry. We should then also pay for the food. It wasn't until we complained about it and refused to pay that we were told that we could leave the restaurant without paying. Some had digestive problems due to lactose intolerance (because the sauces weren't vegan either) and because they hadn't eaten meat for years.

Beyond meat burgers ordered, Meat Burgers served. If the waiter wasn't so eager to dispute the vegan diet, and did not try to hide the mistake, I might have been more compassionate.

We were in a large group (mainly vegans & vegetarians). Everyone ordered vegan burgers or a vegan green sauce. We were assured that the dishes were vegan, but we were still served meat burgers and then tried to cover the whole thing up. Our complaints were not addressed at all at the beginning. Really can't recommend it to anyone!

As a vegetarian, I was sold a meat burger. Only after a long discussion did those responsible admit that it was not a Beyond Burger. If you are a vegetarian you should definitely avoid this restaurant.

We were a group of about 60 people. Over 50% ordered a vegetarian burger but were served one with meat instead! While I can understand that such a large group can be a challenge for the establishment, it is not acceptable to serve something that was not ordered. The way this was handled was very disappointing for us and the entire team at Café Hauptwache!

Horrible experience. Ordered a Beyond Burger only to be served a low quality meat burger with the hopes we wouldn’t mind or realize. After being confronted, they refused to admit at first only to apologize after a while and still charging the rest. i couldn’t bear the shame… what a horrible place

Shocking experience. I was there with a group of colleagues from university, most of whom are vegetarian/vegan. Almost all of us ordered the Beyond Burger, expecting the high quality of a Beyond Burger (which is vegan). We were instead served a super low quality BEEF burger - made from real meat. The situation was handled badly, with the host mocking our vegetarian/vegan choices, and then serving us actual meat. It’s 2024 - we know we need to do better for the planet, and consuming less meat is an easy way to do so.

Meat served to 30 vegetarians and vegans - horror experience We were at the main station last night with a group of 50 people. Most of us are vegetarian, some are vegan. We were all quite skeptical when the waitress asked who the “hardcore vegans” were and then asked the rest of the people who would rather have the “real and juicy burger”. So far so good, there are some people who have not yet recognized the signs of the times and are resisting the future. Most of us all chose the Beyond Burger (vegan). However, the burger that was served was made with real meat. Almost no one noticed that at first. Everyone was hungry and started eating. But pretty quickly more and more people looked at each other questioningly and left the burger standing. After consulting with the kitchen, it turned out that everyone had been served meat. Other courts also raised doubts as to whether they were really wrong. We are all still deeply shocked and left the restaurant immediately. The restaurant has little use for vegetarian or vegan options. I speak out clearly against this restaurant and recommend that every vegetarian and vegan choose another restaurant. I don't wish anyone to experience what happened to us. The event still resonates.

Definitely not recommended for vegans, animal burgers are an absolute nightmare when vegan ones are requested.

Typical restaurant in the heart of Frankfurt. The owner, very friendly and welcoming, recommended delicious and tasty dishes. Excellent cuisine will certainly be a must during all our trips to Frankfurt. Try the handcase mit musik and the schweinshaxe

Beautiful place in the sun. Nice atmosphere

Beautiful café bar in the middle of one of the most central squares in Frankfurt. Relaxed but well-kept atmosphere in a historic building. Nice drinks, attentive, friendly and professional service. Best value for money for Stuttgart residents. There is a large selection of classic Frankfurt dishes for dining. We just drank and really enjoyed our stay.

It is one of the best cafes in downtown Frankfurt. I used to come there before going to work , have coffee with ice cream. Usually , waitresses were always fast and friendly

I would prefer not to give a star. The service is absolutely bad. After waiting for 20 minutes, we asked the waiter to clear the table of the previous guests and order the drinks. After another wait, we got our first drink, in a dirty glass stained with lipstick. When paying we complained that we wanted to pay separately. Despite the great location, it is no longer worth another visit.

Seduced by the beautiful place in the sun, we settled there after a 3-hour drive. Waiter super unfriendly. Didn't want to bring us a map, we had to download the map digitally. Drinks were okay, can't say anything. There was a 30 minute wait for the food. We waited 50 minutes to be served lukewarm to cold food. We complained. An employee came and said we had to pay because we had already eaten too much. The meat on the burger was so tiny that I had to cut off the bun twice before I could get to the meat. We also had a tarte flambée, just as cold. 1 piece was eaten. As a “goodwill gesture” they wanted to give us a €15 discount. So they wanted us to pay 19€ for 2 drinks and a cold lunch. Endless discussion. And the speaker “could not influence the friendliness of the employees today”. We slapped €13 on the table and left in a rage. ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMENDED.
