Zum goldenen Einhorn in Aachen

We went to Aachen to visit the Christmas market. We also wanted to taste typical German food. At the internet, we found ´Im Goldenen Einhorn´. The reviews were good. So, we decided to visit this restaurant. Inside the restaurant is a nice and cosy interior. We ordered snitzel and ´Einhorn teller´. The food was of good quality and amount was just fine. Very friendly service also. We will sure come back to this nice restaurant.

Very good food for reasonable prices. Old atmosphere but modern vibes. Not a restaurant for first date but if you are hungry. Kids friendly. Not really an option for vegans or vegetarian. Gluten free options are not available. Otherwise a nice restaurant.

Wir waren anlässlich des Geburtstags meines Mannes in Aachen und haben spontan im goldenen Einhorn zu Mittag gegessen. Der Tee war qualitativ hochwertig und sehr lecker, aber das Kartoffelpüree hat alles in den Schatten gestellt, denn es war das mit Abstand leckerste Püree, das ich je gegessen habe. Wir kommen wieder!

Delicious and cozy traditional German restaurant!

The food is nothing special and quite expensive. The restaurant benefits from its location near the town hall and the tourists, otherwise it probably wouldn't be able to survive. The service was friendly.

The “Golden Unicorn” impresses with its rustic charm and friendly atmosphere. We were warmly welcomed and escorted to our place. In the front area, a cozy bar invites you to end the evening with a nightcap. The dining area at the back offers a pleasant atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to the positive first impressions. The schnitzel, for example, was a bit too thick, which meant that the taste fell short of our expectations.

FRIENDLY SERVICE VERY ATTENTIONAL

We stopped in to drink at the bar while in town for the Christmas markets. Beautiful bar with white and blue tiles behind and a friendly and busy landlady working a small team of staff. It was a cosy and cheerful place to stand at the bar and get a drink although it was busy with people having lunch while we were there. Good beer, but we didn't eat so can't comment on food.

Eaten here several times, great. Sometimes reservations are recommended.

Did not eat there but Irish pub in Germanh and what a night

Very glad we came here. Amazing service, had to wait for our table but the waitress was so friendly and gave us a table very quick. Sabine was our waitress, very nice. Good food, nice menu. My husband had the sauerbraten. Very tender. The food was quickly served. Really nice athmosphere, laid back, no stress even though it was very busy. We dont mind coming back here:-)

Rainy Christmas market visit. Stopped by the golden unicorn. Small pub restaurant with good home cooking. That's fine. probably more of a tourist thing around the AC Cathedral. Great old pictures of AC. I'm glad there are still restaurants like this. In many places there would be a tipico or something similar. inside. come back next year - promised! greeting goes out

Grab a few pints at the bar. The bartender ensures that you are never left with an empty glass!

Had dinner there with a friend a few days ago. Service was very friendly, you immediately feel at home, the food was great and the portion was ok, we would be happy to come back.

We were there for dinner with a larger group and communicated our meal wishes in advance. Smaller changes could also be implemented spontaneously, and requests were made again table by table so that tables received their food together. The food was very tasty and everything was served in a very appropriate manner. Gladly again!

Lovingly preserved historical ambience (throughout - from the bar to the quiet place), attentive service with natural friendliness, affordable prices and delicious food - these were the ingredients for a successful end to the evening in the Golden Unicorn today. Ideal for stopping off after a stroll through Aachen's old town with its thousand stories. For the sake of the staff, just keep in mind that the kitchen closes at 9:45 p.m.

Unfortunately only canteen food. Unimaginative. Cooked carelessly. ..Sauerbraten with a small dumpling. Salad bouquet a tiny leaf. Torbreaded fish straight from the package. Very disappointing. The service was really friendly and professional. Great location but never again. Disappointing.

The schnitzel was tough and we didn't eat it. The fried potatoes were tasty, the fries were dry and fried too hard. Too bad because we really expected good food

Muy buen restaurante frente al ayuntamiento de Aquisgrán. Comida típica alemana, tomamos un schnitzel clásico y otro con una crema de champiñones realmente deliciosos. Te lo presentan con patatas fritas o pochadas. Te lo acompañan con una pequeña ensalada también muy rica. Correcta atención y justo precio. Totalmente recomendable

Freundliche Bedienung und eine interessante Speisekarte auch mit lokalen Gerichten. Preis- Leistungverhaeltnis ist absolut in Ordnung. Abends Reservierung empfohlen.

Wir haben fast ein einhalb Stunden auf harte Pommes, die in altem Öl frittiert wurden und Schnitzel mit Fertig-Soße gewartet. Danach war uns schlecht.

Very nice restaurant, quick service

A very good establishment, in a very good location. We ate Schnitzels, Vienna and Madagascar. Big portions with salad. Everything was delicious and plenty of it. The prices are like for the center of a European city. I would visit again.

For 48 years now, my unofficial birth certificate has hung in the traditional restaurant “Zum goldenen Einhorn” in the Charles City of Aachen. On the day I was born, my father gathered his friends and gave one (or more) a party. This historic day was then captured on the nearest tangible picture frame or its back. And today I received my birth certificate from the owner of this restaurant. Just like that. Because he immediately understood what this meant to me. THANK YOU Mr. Becker! I shed more than one tear of joy. The picture frame and its inscription will accompany me home and will have a place of honor there. The food and the two waitresses were also excellent! And the location is recommended. Tradition is carried on here in a good way. But everyone in Öscher/Aachen has known this for a long time. And all visitors to this beautiful city should not miss it.

Smaller portions but not a high price. Very tasty and particularly attentive and nice employee.

We were there from the 20th to the 22nd. 09. in Aachen, and 3 times in the Golden Unicorn. Already the second time we were greeted like regular guests; from the first time we still knew what we had eaten and what we had planned. We can only warmly recommend this restaurant!!!

Wir sind zufällig hierhergekommen, waren im Dom, dann in der Altstadt und schließich am Platz vor dem Rathaus. Das goldene Einhorn war einladend und hat eine Außengastronomie. Draußen war ein Tisch für uns frei. Die nette Bedienung nahm die Getränkebestellung auf und prompt gab es etwas kühles zu trinken. Die Essenskarte ist Brauhaustypisch, hatte aber auch Sauerbraten mit Klössen, Rotkohl und Schnitzel mit Bratkartoffeln auf der Karte. Es war lecker und sehr entpannend, gemütlich dort.

Traditional German restaurant. The spaghetti Pesto/rucola was extremely bitter. Pesto was overpowered by rucola under the pasta and rucola in the sauce. Shod have know better and choose a German wurst 😁

The terrace faces the square, so it has a nice atmosphere. However, you should take into account that there are many people smoking on the terrace. The staff is friendly and helpful in English, and although the menu is not in English, it can be easily interpreted using a translator. I ate schnitzel and wurst, but the schnitzel was ordinary, and the wurst was delicious, with a slightly blood sundae-like flavor! Although payment can be made by card, it took a long time for the waiter in charge of card payment to come to us when we said we would pay by card. I recommend taking your time and going. It was a restaurant with friendly staff and a nice atmosphere.

Wonderful restaurant. From the interior looks like it has been around for a very long time. Had the schnitzel which was hugh. Served hot with fried potatoes. Service was fast considering how busy the were. Also had the mushrooms sauce on the side and was very flavorful.

Uriges Restaurant, mit leckerem Essen und netter Bedienung, die auch mal auf individuelle Wünsche sofort eingehen. Wenn man draussen sitzt hat dazu einen tollen Blick auf das Aachener Rathaus.

Visited here on day 27 of a 4 week trip round Europe. Good menu full of traditional German dishes. We both enjoyed our choices and would not hesitate to return

Five Swabians spontaneously wanted five seats, even though the restaurant was already busy. Something was moved around and we were allowed to take a seat. The waitresses were friendly, the food was very good, the restaurant was very cozy and of course the location was perfect. Definitely recommended, we would be happy to come back on our next visit to Aachen.

Food very good. The horseradish sauce with the Tafelspitz was just right. Not too spicy and not too weak.

Typical German dinner, the girls were really kind, they helped us with the menu which unfortunately was only in German, really good and well presented food, worth trying

Typical and historic place. Excellent beer, poor food (goulash with potatoes and beetroot). Tough meat, very small portion and above all it didn't taste like goulash. Very helpful and welcoming staff.

Traditional German restaurant with traditional German food. However the atmosphere inside was lacking. Schnitzel was nice as was the salad. One family member got sausages with saukerkrat and it was mid. Probs best to get seat outside in square.

Terrible! The Unicorn is such a nice place, but it has gone down a lot. If you look closer, it no longer looks clean and well-kept like we used to. It now seems quite neglected. We were there yesterday and ordered Kölsch. The beer was warm, and when we told the waiter behind the counter, he said that all the beer kegs were warm at the moment. What kind of statement is that? In the past you were lucky if you got a seat at the counter, the last few times we were there alone, why? We won't be going there any more for the time being, we don't want to spend any money on warm beer. If this continues, this beautiful, traditional pub will also be driven into the wall; they have already successfully achieved it with the Golden Swan. It's a shame to see that.

The four of us only had a drink here, so we can't judge much. The staff was friendly, but the chairs are absolutely worth replacing. Seldom have I sat so badly and in a prominent place.

We went to the Golden Unicorn for dinner with the extended family on 2 consecutive evenings. (approx. 40 people) It was two wonderful evenings. The staff was competent, very friendly and very patient, because it was certainly not easy to satisfy 40 people with small children at the same time. Even when the children were in the path of the staff, no bad word was said. We spent a lovely evening here. Nice, rustic atmosphere, great location, very nice service and delicious food. We took the sauerbraten twice because we really wanted to try the printen sauce. I can recommend this to everyone! Very tasty, even during the non-Christmas season :)

Good reviews, high expectations and then disappointing. The man was gruff, the woman was very friendly. Fast service but food was substandard, as Belgians we are used to better. Not bad and not good either, just average to satisfy your hunger. Nice interior, but toilet stinks. Good to have a drink on the terrace, but not to eat.

The sauerbraten was recommended to me during the city tour. The tip was worth its weight in gold. The meat is tender as butter and the sauce is a dream!!! Rarely eaten so well.

I ordered a Leberkäse with fried egg and fried potatoes. Unfortunately it was not possible to get vegetables instead of fried potatoes. But it was possible to pay the full price and not get any potatoes. I won't go here anymore. Food and service was otherwise very good.

Nothing vegan and the workers did not seem to know what vegetarian means. They suggested a bean soup that had mettwurst in it, fish dishes, and pesto spaghetti with Parmesan (which usually has animal rennet in it). There was also a fly in my beer, and they didn't offer me a new one. Nice old furnishings.

Nice and cozy and very friendly service, soup was delicious, unfortunately rump steak was already "off" around 1:30 p.m. and boiled beef was a bit too "bland" for me. But I'd love to come back. Thank you and best regards

Historic Gasthaus right in the centre of Aachen. Walking inside it feels like you are stepping into history. Good traditional and regional dishes at reasonable prices.

When we were there, the restaurant wasn't very busy. The atmosphere is rustic, brewery style, I like it. The table that was kept free for us was a bit narrow and didn't have much legroom. The service was very courteous, friendly and usually quick. The deciding factor for “only” three stars is the quality of the food. We had schnitzel and fish. The meat tasted kind of strange, so not bad, but not like what you're used to. Kind of bland, like nothing. We were disappointed then.

Unfortunately the level has dropped. The service was a bit pushy, the food used to be much better. You couldn't wash your hands in the men's toilet, but you could wash your hands in the women's toilet. There was no toilet paper there, as our women said. Hopefully it will be like before.

The place is located in the Aachen center. They offer typical German dishes. Both the food and the service are really good. You can feel the German atmosphere. Last but not least, the beer is amazing

This is a truly traditional informal German restaurant- rather like an old style pub, lots of wooden features and old photos of the town. Great friendly service and an excellent utterly German menu; very reasonably priced . Book by phone if you can as they don’t accept wmail bookings for just two people . Really busy by 18.30! Not much Englisg spoken and menu only in German but all the more authentic because of that !

Typische Duitse gutbürgerliche Küche met allerlei zaken op de kaart waar men in Duitsland (en Nederland) van houdt. Goede verhouding tussen prijs en kwaliteit.
