Hanswurst - Das Wurstrestaurant in Aachen

Hans Wurst was recommended to my wife and me during a tour of Aachen Cathedral. So we decided to try it. The prices are quite hefty, but that's okay, considering Charlemagne himself cooks 😁. My wife had black pudding with sauerkraut, and I had a sausage burger. The black pudding with sauerkraut came without sauerkraut, but my wife loved it. The burger had the most tasteless sausage I've eaten in years. I can't say for sure whether the nausea that set in shortly afterward was due to the burger, but I hadn't eaten anything else that day. I'm curious to see if this review stays up on Google or if it will be deleted soon.

We ate at this restaurant as part of a road trip with our Mercedes W140 C140 France club. We had a reservation in advance and the welcome was warm. Honestly, it was delicious! Every member enjoyed the local specialty, the famous hanscurrywurst sausage, a real treat. To our surprise, we discovered a photo of former Chancellor Helmut Kohl having eaten here: a special and symbolic nod for us, since he particularly appreciated the Mercedes model present in our club. We loved this experience!

Great atmosphere and service, with diy tray at the counter. I would say 4 stars because portions are on the small side, but the taste is unique

I am absolutely in shock! I left a bad and honest review on this place about 2 years ago because I got very sick from food that Hans Wurst served me. I asked for specific dishes without my allergens, very precisely, asked multiple times if they were 100% sure, and they still gave me a dish that had those allergens. I got very sick after eating the dish, and stayed sick for 2 days. Today, Hans Wurst has filed my review as 'defamation' and removed it. Do not go to this restaurant, the owner clearly does not care about this sort of stuff.

The vegetarian Currywurst was (surprisingly) delicious and I loved the mayo !! Decor was lovely and the staff very nice. All the tables outside were unfortunately taken, but the view must be beautiful there since the restaurant is located right in front of the cathedral :)

I had a disappointing experience here. The woman at the cash point was not friendly. My friend tried ordering in German, but she kept saying “what, what” and then switched to English. Even when I repeated the order, she still didn’t understand and ended up placing the wrong order. When we corrected her, she seemed visibly annoyed. On top of that, the prices are too high for the value. For example, the mini soup cost €12 and was very salty. Unfortunately, the service and quality did not match the price.

I gave this place a 2-star review about two years ago because my currywurst was lukewarm and the fries were soggy. The restaurant has now filed a complaint with Google, calling it "defamation" and trying to get the review deleted. I didn't intend to defame anyone; I was simply reporting my personal experience. Perhaps the restaurant's approach will be of interest to potential guests.

No greasy bratwurst or potato wedges. The portions are rather small. Not suitable for those with a real appetite. Everything tasted good.

We were very impressed with the charming and authentic concept of this trendy eatery, with a pleasant atmosphere both inside and outside on the terrace. The menu primarily features bratwursts from various German cities, but also offers burgers, salads, larger sharing options, and small snacks. Ordering and paying is easy at the counter. We were immediately served delicious (non-alcoholic) beers in a mug, and you receive a buzzer before your meal. Unfortunately, we had to wait a very long time for our food to finally arrive. Nevertheless, the quality of the food more than made up for it. The various bratwursts were truly delicious and well-seasoned. We would definitely recommend this place to bratwurst lovers.

I came here more or less by chance for dinner and was immediately captivated by the Hanswurst. A super-tasty burger, very friendly staff, and good beer—I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Aachen.

Portions not too big. Generally sausage-based dishes but there is also an option for vegetarians and even a vegan salad. In addition, a selection of beers or various non-alcoholic beverages. During the Christmas/Advent fair, you can buy takeaway food at the stand opposite the stationary premises. Simple food, mainly sausage and kaszanka-based dishes, but tasty.

I have had better wurttes. I chose the place because it was in a nice spot. When I told the lady working Bratwurst, she repeated it twice. Because of my accent. Dude, I am just a tourist, I did not come to take over your country. I also know your language a little, I could have ordered in English. Also, you do not fill the 0.5 liter glass completely, one is 90%, the other is 75%. Other people's glasses were full. I hope you succeed in being more equal, more fair, more European!!

Disappointing experience – unfortunately not recommended I was at Hans Wurst in Aachen today and have to say: unfortunately not my cup of tea. The currywurst was disappointing - nothing special in terms of taste, the portion was rather small and just too expensive. Overall not good value for money. Things are completely different at Maier-Pevelings in Aachen: There you get larger portions at a cheaper price, the food tastes much better and - what's really great - you can get seconds for free. Unfortunately, in a direct comparison, Hans Wurst clearly comes up short. Will definitely go to Maier-Pevelings again next time.

We really enjoyed our visit! The sausages were delicious especially the blood sausages, which were full of flavor and perfectly cooked. Portions were generous and satisfying. The place has a great vibe, with a laid-back. Self-service setup that works well. Even the toilet was clean and thoughtfully maintained….always a nice surprise. All in all, a great spot. We’d love to come back!

You definitely had 5 stars a few years ago. Even when there was a lot to do, the quality was always excellent. Unfortunately, I have to say that those days are obviously over. We had lunch with two adults and two children and it started with the wrong food. The plate in question was completely disposed of and remade. The food we got then wasn't good. The mashed potatoes were from the microwave and cold, the red cabbage was bound way too much, the potato wedges were too salty and the sausage (which is the focus here) was lukewarm and barely edible. Conclusion: Charging such prices for food that mainly comes from the microwave is a disgrace. We weren't the first but definitely the last time here!

Great little restaurant right next to the Cathedral. Stylish environment with pleasant (self) service and many variations of classic German sausages and beer from our own mini brewery.

Definitely worth an experience.

Positively surprised. Food was delicious and available in different variations. Sausage with red cabbage and dumplings is an interesting combination. The in-house beer is also highly recommended. Unfortunately, only one table is not easily accessible because it is placed quite close to a wall and pillars. We'll definitely be back.

If you are in a lookout for famous varieties of different German sausages, this is the place to be. They offer it in many different side dishes. The size is enough for a serving.

Food was very tasty, value for money was absolutely right - unfortunately the fries were cold. Beer comes in a mug, which is not our cup of tea and therefore not as ice cold. We would still recommend the currywurst. The restaurant is self-service.

Das Restaurant ist urgemütlich eingerichtet und die Wurstgerichte schmecken mir sehr gut. Teilweise sind die Gerichte eteas ungewöhnlich, wie z. B. der Deutschburger, der statt des Burgers einen Wurstkringel im Brötchen hat. Nervig ist, dass man die Speisen an der Theke bestellen und und auch abholen muss und dazu einen Namen angeben muss, mit dem man - verbrämt durch ein vorangestelltes "Hans" - aufgerufen wird das Essen abzuholen.

A cult bar where everything revolves around the bratwurst. Quite a nice idea. However, I would suggest a refrigerator where guests can take their own drinks and open them themselves. This saves a lot of time at the checkout and reduces waiting times. I would put Mario, ketchup, and mustard on the tables as standard.

We had a board for two people with a selection of different sausages. Everything was fresh and delicious. Excellent draft beer and very affordable. Maybe not the most luxurious place to eat, but that's not what I came for.

The place is very cozy, especially on the terrace of the square, since it is located right next to the cathedral. It is a self-service establishment, you enter, you order, they serve you drinks immediately and they give you a device that beeps when the food is ready to pick up. I recommend choosing any individual dish. The plate for two people is good to try variety, but if you like to eat you will be left with the feeling that something is missing. The sausages are smaller than in the sample photo, especially the rolled one. Instead, there are many more potatoes. Another point to keep in mind if you drink natural mineral water is that the natural water (still) they serve has a very peculiar flavor (for a palate accustomed to weak mineralization, at least). Although it does not have gas, it seems to carry it due to the high mineralization. It has a total of 2,380 mg/l of dissolved minerals (1,779 mg/l of bicarbonate). Personally, I didn't like it at all, I couldn't drink it. I ordered a separate beer. The food was pretty good, we were able to try a variety of German sausages which was what we were looking for. Overall, a recommendable experience.

We enjoyed the food and appreciate the allergen list and accommodations for gluten-free diners like me. The cashier/order-taker seemed new and my order came out with the crunch onions that are not gf, but when we brought it to the counter, they were apologetic and re-made the food for me and it tasted great and was safe. I had the Red sausage with purple cabbage and mash without the gravy or crunchy onions topping. The fries here are not gf. The ambiance was casual, clean, and comfortable. We will be back.

It's a fast food place with typical sausages from Germany. The idea is cool and the result is good also. The place, when the weather is not nice to use the terrace is not especially big and you will need to wait for a table to get free. The staff sometimes don't speak perfect English but enough to help you with any doubts you can have about the food. So, in short, a good option for a tourist stop, rest and recharge batteries.

Very good place. Delicious sausages and good price. I loved the beer. For the little ones there is a special menu and they have a beautiful activity book with pictures. I will definitely return to eat here.

In the years that I come to Aachen. I was told to grab a bite to eat here. The food is very tasty, I would say: try it too. That's why I often eat here when I'm in Aachen.

Tasty, but the portions are really small. I would have had to eat twice as much to be full and it was too expensive for that.

Even McDonalds now serves at the table. What a stupid concept, this kind of self-service. This tinkling thing when the stuff is finished is just annoying. Someone is always running through, ringing, to pick up their stuff. Uncomfortable, nothing like an American diner, more like a train station hall. Bratwurst snail inedible. Everything else too cold. Tourists rip off. The guy at the counter was very friendly and nice, but that was it.

The food was almost cold when we got it and the wedges were also limp. I didn't like the atmosphere. There were either high tables and chairs, which I find difficult to sit on as a short person, or a large table in the middle. The stools are attached to brackets that can be pushed out. Unfortunately, I either had the neighbor's hanger on my leg or the movements of the others were transferred to my stool. And for a self-service restaurant it's outrageously expensive, especially the drinks. That was my first and last visit.

What I remember is the friendly staff. The lady at the order taker studied customer service, it seemed. Absolutely fantastic. I also like the store concept. The furnishings are appropriate and the dishes served are pleasing, even if they didn't broaden the horizons of my palate. Well, even our own brewed beer is served here to thirsty visitors. Bravo. The location is of course great and the price is all expensive, yes, but within a clearly defined range for old town conditions. Fix your toilets. There are no more “defect” signs for sale. Conclusion: Can you get Hanswurst in Aachen? Yes definitely!

It was nice and warm inside this self-service restaurant. The atmosphere was simple and relaxed. The food was simple but tasty, just what we needed. There were five of us, and everything was served quickly, which was ideal. A nice place for a quick and practical meal!

Dirty place, underground toilet, currywurst with tomato sauce (?!), dried out wedges. And all for a relatively expensive price. I haven't eaten so badly in a long time!!

The cheese spaetzle from the Hanswurst stand at the Christmas market was tasty. The cheese had a nice flavor that was well complemented by the fried onions and fresh chives. The optional bacon cubes added a pleasant, spicy note and went perfectly with it. Overall, the combination was harmonious and left the impression of careful preparation. The portion was quite small though, maybe 150g, which is more like a snack than a full meal. At €8.90 including the additional costs for the bacon cubes, the price-performance ratio is very unbalanced. Of course, the prices at Christmas markets are generally higher, and the circumstances partially justify this, but the feeling remains that a slightly larger portion would have been desirable in order not to leave such a cheeky impression.

Delicious vegetarian sausages! We had the Hansthüringen (see photo) and Hansberlin! Not the best Currywurst but still very good. Fast service if you want something casual and good. Highly recommend!

It was a nice experience when I had a lunch here a year ago. The sausage and the beer were both tasty. But this time there was a big cockroach running on the table! A waiter helped to get it away but it seriously made me worry about the overall hygiene. Besides, no one apologized for what happened nor offered any solutions. I would no longer come to this place and could not recommend this place to anyone.

I'm not a big sausage fan, but you can go here every now and then and buy some sausage and some side dish. The beer is also really good and the service is very friendly and accommodating. Many greetings go out to the young gentlemen at the checkout.

It says they open at 12 noon but this is usually only at 12:30, rude rude staff.

Authentic German restaurant with typical German decor, delicious sausages and stews. The service employee was kind enough to point out that what I wanted to order had black pudding, which not everyone likes. The currywurst was perfect.

€6.20 for a beer. I've never been able to make an assessment quicker. I travel a lot in Europe, that's a record (...and self-service!?). Besides, I wasn't nearly full. I went to the next snack bar and ate basically the same thing again for €5. I also don't believe that the Thuringian sausage has ever seen a Thuringian, I speak from multiple experiences. But it wasn't bad, just far too little.

Conclusion: if you want to eat a relatively good currywurst, this is the place for you, but the portions are very small.
