The food was excellent and large portioned. There is the Frankfurt Green Sauce (sour cream with seven herbs) that everyone raves about. 20 Jul and it was a bit warm in the inner courtyard. Watch the wait staff. The waiter we had double charged our group for the pitcher of Apple Wine and bottle of water. No, this was NO MISTAKE!

The schnitzel was unacceptable and it was like yesterday's cooked schnitzel! The consistency was almost rubbery! The blonde girl doesn't seem to want to serve and ignores some customers! Unlike a boy who was helpful! I'll probably never go there again! Maybe he did it for xenophobic reasons, maybe if that happens I'll take a closer look!

To the Gemaltes Haus, one of the classics in Frankfurt. Typical rustic cider bar with the classics of regional cuisine. Ribs and Frankfurter Schnitzel uncomplicated and good. I didn't think the ratio was right for the sparkling apple cider (too much mineral water). It's better to order a Bembel and mix it yourself.

It was my first time and only day in Germany. I was by myself and wanted to try an authentic German restaurant. This restaurant was the perfect place to experience it. The wait staff was really nice. They have English menus. They accept credit card payment.

The service was outstanding. The food came very quickly and was delicious. The ambience is what a cider bar should look like. All in all great. We would go here again.

I've been here many times and wondered where the bad reviews come from. Unfortunately, I can understand it as of today. Unfortunately, our waiter was totally unfriendly and extremely annoyed with every order from us. When I got a “real” schnitzel - despite ordering a veggie schnitzel - and complained about it, the waiter was really angry and accused me of ordering wrongly. When we paid we were charged for a bottle of water that we didn't have. After I pointed this out, the waiter brought us the adjusted bill, but didn't say a word to us anymore. He didn't apologize for the wrong schnitzel either. Unfortunately today was very disappointing. If you want good food and great service, you should go to Kanonesteppel - everyone is nice there!

I was surprised by the waiter's snotty manner, but my companion said it was the style of the house. Äppelwoi sour ok, green sauce ok, fried potatoes sliced ​​and salted, brisket cured for longer shelf life, so also salty. As nice as the location is, I wouldn't go there again.

It's always nice to have a good glass of beer there. One of the still fewer and fewer rustic apple wine taverns. The food there is also typically Frankfurt.

First of all: the one star is because of our service employee with the curly hair who had to be reminded 3-4 times to order drinks or spices and when paying at the table of four he refused to split the bill "because it would be too much effort". Unfortunately that doesn't work at all. It's a shame, because the food (Frankfurter Schnitzel) was delicious and the outdoor area, which can be closed with a roof when it rains, was nice and had a good ambience.

The service was so bad and unfriendly that we left straight away. We asked politely for a place twice because we even walked there for half an hour based on a recommendation. Both times we were spoken to in a really annoyed manner and left standing in the middle of a sentence. The atmosphere was very hectic, stressed and loud. Plates were also carelessly prepared. I'm glad we didn't eat there. I wouldn't go back either.

Die Räumlichkeiten/Draußenbereiche sind noch so gemütlich wie früher. Aber die Qualität der Speisen hat sich dramatisch verschlechtert. Was als "Szegediner Gulasch" bezeichnet wurde, stellte sich als unappetitliche Anordnung eines Haufens von schweinernen Bestandteilen heraus, für die ich die Bezeichnung Fleisch für unangemessen halte; daneben fand sich lieblos hingeklatschtes Sauerkraut und Püree. Mit dem Originalrezept Szegediner Gulasch hat das wenig zu tun. Die Maultaschen waren hart und zäh, relativ geschmacksarm. Lediglich der beigelegte Salat war ok. Der Service nicht unfreundlich, aber wenig aufmerksam. - Zum Äppler trinken geeignet, aber m.E. nicht für mehr.

They offers delicious, authentic Frankfurt cuisine at fair prices. The Schnitzel and the soup is what I had, complemented by their refreshing Apfelwein. The soup was great and it’s definitely a must try. The cozy, rustic atmosphere and friendly staff make for a great dining experience. The charming terrace is perfect for enjoying a meal outdoors. Four out of five stars.

We came here for a lunch with friends. I saw the reviews and the stars. They have a good point. But actually I didn’t like the food that much. The place has a historical atmosphere, they have garden to sit but sorry it was not my best. We ordered schnitzel and frankfurter, it was so mediocre. The staff is not that much kind and friendly. My point is 2 stars for here.

Unfortunately my Wienerschnitzel wasn't that good, the meat was toe and the breading was soggy instead of crispy. A beggar who went from table to table in the restaurant gave the whole thing a “something” of conscience.

Cheap and bad! It's cheap, but it's also really bad. Everything is ready-made or canned and poorly prepared. We had stomach problems all evening, even though we left almost everything behind.

Food, service is good. Cigarette smoke from other customers was annoying (unfortunately throughout Germany). The dish I wanted was sold out and I had to eat something else after ordering. Because the food I got as a replacement was okay, it's already 4 stars. Management of ingredients should be maintained because it is not the first time. Too many tourists. For local people I would rather recommend another store.

UFBASE! A true Frankford boy! It had been a long time since I was in the painted house, but I spontaneously felt like it again (I had fond memories of the ribs and the Äppler). So I told my wife (who had moved here) and went there. And it was like back then: the store was full, quaint, loud, beautiful. Just like a classic cider bar should be. Had the Handkäs m. Was a straight A! Main course ribs with sauerkraut & mashed potatoes, as well as baked Camembert. Great portions, another straight A! Plus a 5 Bembel - we actually had two Bembels to serve with relish. Unfortunately nothing came of it... not because of the Äppler (who is of course a straight A - what else?!), but because we were so full that we just wanted to go to the couch. We just got the 2 obligatory medlar cutters in... in terms of price (of course) a straight A. All of this plus the typically French, sensational service makes me - for the first time ever - give it a 1 with a star. We are now making the Painted House a beautiful tradition for traditional, relaxed evenings without shishi and schisslameng... simply honest, traditional, relaxed and delicious! Thanks for a top-notch evening! :)

We had booked a customer event with 20 customers months ago. Most of the food was no longer available and we were given the leftovers. It was super embarrassing.

A truly exceptional, beautiful, rustic restaurant with many “hidden corners” to sit and linger. The prices in this restaurant are very reasonable and value for money. The decoration is also very detailed. The food was very tasty and filling. An absolute recommendation in Frankfurt Sachsenhausen directly at the Schwanthaler Straße tram stop.

A restaurant specializing in apple wine and native German food that you must try in Frnakfurt, which I visited 8 years ago. The atmosphere is nice and the service from the professional staff is excellent, but the strong salty taste of traditional German food can be different depending on individual taste. BEWARE, TOURIST TRAP. There were four of me there on May 19, 2024. We called ahead to reserve a table. The woman on the phone said, no problem, just come over. 1 hour later we were there. The store is packed, “nothing works without a reservation.” Our later waiter welcomed us with exactly these words. After we told him about our call, he just laughed. So we stood at the front door and waited. To the left of the door there was a bench where my wife sat down. "Our" waiter stormed up and said "Don't sit here", we should wait there in the corner, and directed us to the corner in front of the toilet doors. Normally we should have left now...but we didn't. After about a quarter of an hour my wife asked what it looked like, then "our" waiter (I think his name was Angelo, an older man): "If we continue to be so impatient, we won't get a table at all"... Now we should have gone the second time...but we didn't. After about another 10 minutes he gave us the table by the door, where my wife sat on the corner of the bench and was sent away by him. We ordered drinks and an appetizer, and I pointed to the dish "Egg Tartar Bread" and asked him if he could make me that as an appetizer. Costs about 9 EUR. He asked "one portion"...I confirmed, ready. Bread came with tartare & egg. We drank, ordered main courses, ate, so far ok. It came to the bill and it now said around 18 EUR for my starter “tartar bread”. I asked him what it was, and he told me that it was the one portion of "Tartar with Bread & Egg", showed it to me on the menu...it was above, costs about 18 EUR. I told him that I showed him what I wanted on the menu and that I didn't order the above. He then replied that he had asked for "a portion", which I confirmed. Of course I only wanted one portion. However, he related this question to a completely different dish. Like right now? I also said that if I ask him about a dish, show it to him on the menu, and then he asks me in his own way with another dish as confirmation, that it can't be. He wasn't interested, he didn't care about me, he was cold, callous and ripped off. No apology, no accommodation, nothing. Didn't deviate from his calculation, still asked me "where I come from..." It was clear to me that this wasn't the first time he'd done this. For me it was clearly a tourist rip-off. But the whole restaurant probably doesn't need anything else. The tourists arrive there in high numbers, always loud, atmosphere, full. Like in a Bavarian tavern. I can only recommend everyone to eat somewhere else. We have many other nice restaurants in FF/M. met, and I can say that not everyone is like that, the others were super nice.

We two guys had a good dinner time. Especially because of the fantastic performance of the one service lady in the front outdoor area. The food was OK in terms of price-performance ratio. However, not outstanding. The cider was good, but I'll stick with beer. The various seating options are also suitable for larger groups (10+) with advance reservations. It was very well attended, tourists in particular like to go there. Traditional and seasonal dishes are offered. The atmosphere is rustic which leads to an acceptable level of cleanliness.

We were there as a couple on Saturday evening. The super nice waiter had a table immediately. We ate Frankfurter Schnitzel and drank a lot of spritzer. The ambience of the restaurant is amazing, it starts with the house facade at the entrance. Lots of paintings and of course the various Eintracht jerseys. I can only recommend a visit.

Old-fashioned restaurant that takes you back in time. Offer is not large and as it used to be. The food is good, but don't expect anything spectacular. The prices are also old-fashioned and therefore not too bad. There are many traditional Frankfurter dishes and drinks on the menu, Apfelwein, Mispelchen and grüne Soße. The lady who served us was very friendly.

We won't go there anymore! After an hour of waiting without food, the waiter unkindly informed us that we could also pay for the drinks and simply leave the restaurant. It was also made clear to us that we were not important as guests because the place was always full. We enjoyed being there but that's not how you treat guests! We tried to eat in this restaurant for the second time today. The first time we were kicked out due to lack of space but we wanted to give this restaurant a second chance and got a seat today. We ordered two dishes and one dish came straight away. After 10 minutes after my friend had finished her food, about half an hour later, my food wasn't there yet. We asked the waiter very politely where the second meal was, but he just shouted at us and said, what kind of people are you to ask such a thing. In this restaurant it is usual for meals to arrive half an hour apart. Then we told him that it can't be that everyone has to eat alone and she looked at us. Never ask again, it's normal and never come to this restaurant again. You don't look dark-haired and don't fit into this restaurant anyway.

Update 04/2024 We had dinner there for my birthday evening. Beef tongue and schnitzel with green sauce. Plus lots of stuff and mischief. Always a pleasure to come to this restaurant. The service is friendly, the toilets are clean and the prices are fair. Parking is more difficult there, but the tram stop is actually right in front of the front door. Very nice.

I went back after a year and liked it better than the first time. Typical Frankfurt food and atmosphere. Don't miss the apple cider.

I visited this place on a friend’s recommendation. It has a spacious and airy atmosphere, and it’s quite large. There are plenty of tables, yet it still feels crowded. I was particularly urged to try the apple wine. I ordered apple wine with a frankfurter. Honestly, it didn’t quite suit my palate, I didn’t like it. However, the tables were clean and the service was fast. The waiters were friendly and helpful. I paid a total of 9€ for the frankfurter and apple wine. I would recommend it. You should at least try the apple wine

We had one Frankfurter schnitzel which was cooked or fried (even it was hard to understand) a day before, hard to eat. They have a frankfurt sauce which is just like detox juice with cucumber knaublach etc. Completely not a sauce. Also for applewein, if you want to drink apple vinegar you must try. But for sure, it is not a wine.

The service couldn't be worse. The waiter was INCREDIBLY rude, he literally bullied the customers. He was also xenophobic, telling people that customers of certain nationalities would never tip and essentially forcing them to do so. If you don't want to have the worst time of your life, don't go there. By the way, the food isn't good either. Overall a really bad experience
