Some co-workers from Frankfurt took us to dinner because we wanted to have dinner in a typical German restaurant. It is a very spacious place. When we arrived there was a lot of atmosphere because they were watching a football game on a giant screen. They served us very quickly. We really liked both the food and the desserts. The Apfelstrudel was spectacular.

A very quaint restaurant. My wife liked the hand cheese, and a special highlight for us was the goulash soup. The veal and pork schnitzels were also very good, I also thought the green sauce was great, tasty and refreshing. Unfortunately we weren't happy with the fried potatoes, some of them weren't cooked through. The prices were perhaps a bit high, but overall still reasonable.

Food was normally good in Frankfurt terms. But you're not allowed to play cards? What does that mean? A middle-class restaurant where playing cards is forbidden? That doesn't work at all. The waiter was also very unfriendly when we were told this. Otherwise the food and atmosphere are good.

A very nicely decorated restaurant. One of the most beautiful cider farms. The food is manageable, traditional Hessian cuisine. The veal schnitzel was perfectly fried, the crust was very crispy and the meat was juicy. The green sauce is fresh and delicious. I was a little disappointed with the fried potatoes, which could have been fried a little longer. The service was very nice. The price was a little more expensive but the quality was very good. The food came quickly too. I think if there had been more going on we would have waited a little longer.

The three of us had dinner at the Painted House on February 14, 2025 around 5 p.m. The food was delicious as always. Only the service was a flop. We were served outside by an Italian-looking waiter. When we first ordered a drink, this waiter asked us whether it would always take us so long. We went through the drinks list as normal. When I ordered the second drink he turned his back to me and said he would listen to me. At the next table he could kiss the asses of the regular customers and we had to listen to stupid jokes. You can have a bad day, but you should definitely be professional towards your guests. In my opinion he failed in his job. For this reason we didn't tip for the first time.

Super nice experience! A real tavern, frequented by real locals. Typical food, without any fuss! Very good portion, good price. Excellent apple cider by the glass, courteous, fast and friendly service! I got a response in English and very quickly! I recommend for a typical experience!

You can't get more "Hessian" and "good" than that!

Every time I'm in Frankfurt I go to Gemaltes Haus to eat Grüne Sauce. Never disappoints.

The Good Friday fish was excellent! Potato salad is awesome. And after almost 40 days, finally Schoppe again. Life can be so beautiful!

I visited to have dinner with someone who lives in Germany for the first time in several years. It was a popular restaurant so it was crowded, but the food was brought to us without too much of a wait. Since some of us were visiting Germany for the first time, we ordered everything from apple wine to beer, and tongue, which was a little surprising in size. The road in front of the store was under construction and the signboard was difficult to see, so I might need to be careful for the time being.

I'm a einbein fan. this shop serves einsbein which doesn't have any fishy smell from pork at all. compare to any other restaurants, I do believe you will like the traditional germany restaurant in this shop. Don't miss it out.

The food was good, the schnitzel and green sauce were very tasty, the fried potatoes were unfortunately cold and burnt and tasteless, which was a bit inappropriate. The father-daughter team in the service was nice but very friendly to the guest, but what was annoying was the father reprimanding the daughter The daughter doesn't accept it but uses gestures to say that she would rather strangle him. That can be clarified behind the scenes and not in front of the guest

TERRIBLE, horrible treatment. IF YOU ARE NOT GERMAN THEY WILL NOT ATTEND YOU. No one came to serve us, we called the waiter several times to take our order and no one came. After a long time they came to take our drinks, they told us that another waiter would come to take our food. Waiting for more than half an hour and no one came, until finally the same waiter came because the rest did not come to serve us. The food was average, we tried a sausage and it wasn't very tasty. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND IT.

This place was very lively. Service was fast and friendly. I tried the beef brisket with green sauce and fried potatoes. It was delicious 😋. Their apple wine is a must-try.

Typical German cuisine with the meals served really quickly. However later on it was impossible to get a waiter to pay attention to us and request a bill.

Rustic cider restaurant with a long tradition.

Quaint and rustic Frankfurt apple wine bar. Food absolutely ok, although not a culinary highlight but significantly better than in other apple wine bars in Sachsenhausen. What is off-putting, however, is the obviously bored and unfriendly manner of the service staff. In the outdoor area, which is heated, the greatest interest is that no guest should sit outside and disappear directly into the indoor area. Inside, the cellars are equally unhelpful; you have to slalom yourself and lie in wait to get a spot. That makes it very unsympathetic. You can clearly see that the number of passing customers is very high due to the many tourists, otherwise you would certainly be more dependent on new customers.

It is somewhat confusing because it has two vines with two different names. Traditional place with a very affordable price and great food with generous portions. The typical cider is served in large glasses. It is very large and reservations are not necessary.

Yesterday evening we were in the Äbbelwoi location “Zum maltenen Haus” for the first time and, first of all, it will probably have been the last time. The two stars for the food are only because my two colleagues liked the schnitzel. But first things first. At the beginning the welcome was friendly, we were quickly taken to a table, the menus were quickly there and the order was taken. At this point the place wasn't full. Nevertheless, the food was delivered incorrectly across the tables, in our case, ribs mixed with puree and cabbage were ordered twice, but they were served lean, without puree. The service employee was made aware that something was wrong or missing. And at the latest when another service person was there with the right food, the service should have understood the mistake. A good option would have been to give us the right food we ordered, take the wrong one back with us and tell the table that the food wasn't brought to us "we're sorry, it'll take a while" but we have our real food quickly disappeared again, left the other table to wait, without comment, and just told us that the missing puree would still come. That also happened when we had long since finished eating and then, once tried, it went back again. Service technically, completely failed. Likewise, in the end they didn't even dare to come to our table and wanted to have the bill paid as quickly as possible. But now to the food. As already mentioned, the schnitzels seemed to be good, as was the cider. The lean rib was dry and lightly seasoned. The cabbage was OK and the puree, which was delivered late, had the appearance of a bag of puree that potatoes had passed by at most. The Frankfurt rib was therefore a 0/10, simply not tasty. You can't shake the feeling that quantity rather than class is the motto. I have experienced this better in many other Äbbelwoi pubs in the immediate area. The ambience is that of a classic Äbbelwoi pub and is also good. If you just come here to drink, I think that's fine.

Still by far the best cooked ribs in Frankfurt! And the green sauce, which I like best :-) For the 5 points, the service would have to go a little further.

A time-honored eatery to come to. Here you can get excellent dishes at good prices. Well, I've been going here for decades and have never been disappointed when it comes to food. The old furnishings and beautiful wall paintings easily take you back in time! This restaurant is worth seeing!, a tourist attraction.

A wonderful place, very typical German. Susan was very friendly and asked us if we wanted to share a table with two neighbors from Frankfurt...(Very common action in Germany) Obviously we said yes... We spent a wonderful night with Eckhad and Elmar...hahahaha

Very nice place. Absolute must if you want to experience “Hessian culture”. The restaurant offers everything you could want from a cider restaurant. The prices are also very humane. When we visited, the meat sausage with sauerkraut and the fried potatoes with green sauce were a bit lukewarm. Hence a star deduction. Nevertheless, an absolute recommendation and we will definitely come back. Must try: The “salmon bread” with pollack. You can hardly find something like this anywhere anymore and it tastes great.

The food is good, the selection is manageable but sufficient. The portions were quite generous, I couldn't finish everything. The service is extremely friendly and attentive. The decor is rustic and appropriate for a cider restaurant. WiFi is available. All in all a good location.

It was an all-round lovely evening with delicious food, friendly & attentive service! There were three of us and we ordered across the menu, everyone was happy. A great traditional Frankfurt cuisine. We can't understand the negative comments at all.

We loved the food and the atmosphere, it seems to be a typical place in the region. The bad thing is that we didn't know that we had to be German to be well received, we saw how the waiter joked and was very nice to the rest of the diners. With us, since we arrived, the hostile attitude was noticeable, he did not seem to want to serve us and when we spoke to him to be able to order more, he asked us for a minute and never returned, we just watched him pass by all the tables talking and joking, and he just ignored us to us. Despite that, we enjoyed the food and the night, we would only think again to return.

Unfortunately, the schnitzel was warmed up, very thin and dripping with fat, as were the fried potatoes. The sauerkraut was so acidified with cheap table vinegar that it was inedible - why do that? Guests would like to eat sauerkraut and not pickled cabbage. The portions were also quite small for the price. A positive highlight is the farmer's bread, which really tasted excellent - in contrast to the bread with grains, which was not convincing. Overall, there is a lot that could be improved here...

Unfortunately the food was just mediocre. The schnitzel was too thick and the fried potatoes weren't crispy enough. However, the service was particularly disappointing: When we politely asked how long the meal would take, the waitress reacted unfriendly and made fun of us for being impatient. Additionally, the goulash came a full 20 minutes later than the rest of the meal. The store looks like a typical tourist trap - lots of appearances, little quality. Unfortunately, the traditional Hessian flair that you would expect here is completely missing. Overall a big disappointment.

Outrageous, waited 15 minutes for drinks to be taken. I ordered a beer, the answer was "we're in Frankfurt, we don't have that here" and I didn't ask if I wanted something else but asked the next person. Shameful because there was wheat on a neighboring table. Twice there, twice such treatment, thank you, but there won't be a third time here.

Beautiful Sachsenhausen economy with everything that goes with it. Very tasty apple wine, the Frankfurter Platte is also recommended. Of course a little touristy, but definitely recommended.

Had dinner in the restaurant “Zum Gemalten Haus” with a group of 15. The restaurant offers authentic, rustic and regional dishes. Far away from the “fancy” of many Frankfurt restaurants. If you like traditional cuisine, you're in good hands here.

Äppelwoi was great. The food was very tasty. Portions were a bit small, but you can also order something extra. We got a place straight away. The only thing that was a bit uncomfortable was the electric sliding door to the outside because it kept opening and closing because it kept getting cold. Maybe a thick entrance curtain would be good. Great traditional restaurant.

Vegetarians and Vegans: Run. There is nothing at all for vegans. The vegetarian stuff tastes horrible. Reminds me of gas station food. If you look for your group, you will be sent "somewhere back" in the huge store. You can only have a conversation with just two people because it's way too crowded and loud. It's been a really long time since the food was so bad in Frankfurt. By far the worst cider bar in Sachsenhausen.

Very full restaurant, therefore a lot of hustle and bustle and noise. The service was very direct, my reservation for 5 people was just a reminder. Our table was occupied. But the lady was very friendly and accompanied us through the evening. Now to eat, I had the classic ribs with fried potatoes. If you like fatty meat, this is the right choice. It reminded me of pork knuckle. The sauerkraut was delicious, but the fried potatoes were so bad. Not crispy, no bacon or onions in sight. Could have also been used as boiled potatoes. Anyone who visits Frankfurt must have been here. But then just drink cider and eat an appetizer. The anchovy bread with meat salad was very good. The portions are also clearly enough to fill you up. There was nothing to say about it 😉

Would give zero stars if I could. Have lived in Germany for three months and this is the worst service I’ve experienced. Owner overcharged me and shouted at me “lady lady this is how we do the bill here” when I politely asked if I could review the bill before paying. He took my credit card out of my hands. He only spoke respectfully when my husband spoke - clearly he’s a sexist too who doesn’t like to listen to women. AVOID AVOID.

It's always nice to have a good glass of beer there. One of the still fewer and fewer rustic apple wine taverns. The food there is also typically Frankfurt.

We ate here for the first time yesterday in a large group. The restaurant is comfortably furnished and has plenty of space. The food was very tasty and was served quickly. Unfortunately the waiter couldn't keep up with the drinks. Some drinks only came after asking three times, some not at all. It is also surprising that some things are apparently not on the menu but are still offered. As a desert there is e.g. only red jelly but you can also order chocolate cake with fruit. Locals told us that apple cider spritz in various variations was a popular drink. It's not on the menu, just normal cider, but you can order it. If you know that, nothing stands in the way of a lovely evening.

Old traditional location. We were a little disappointed with the food. I was looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the bratwurst was very dry and the amount of side dishes was manageable. Nevertheless, we had a nice afternoon.

Top restaurant in Frankfurt. We were late so our reservation was given to someone else. The nice waiter was still able to organize a place for us for 1.5 hours. Since we already knew what we were going to eat, we had more than enough time👍🏻. Our food always came quickly, warm and the waiter was very friendly. When asked how he can still be friendly with so much stress, he just said “it’s quiet here”. Thank you for the evening!

Of all the restaurants we visited, this is the most genuine, there are only local people.

The service is not always as fast as it was before Corona, which is a shame.

Food (ribs) like decades ago in the best quality, crispy sauerkraut, fresh bread, as well as the veggie Maultaschen, strong Äppler in a 0.3 glass (!), very friendly service (apparently a descendant of the former boss), which shows that Äbbelwoi is not with you must be accompanied by rustic service, very good medlar at the end

The painted house offers a beautiful ambience and friendly service. For dinner I had Leberkäs with egg and potato salad. Was very tasty! I can only recommend it. All in all I was very satisfied, but unfortunately there are only 4 stars because, contrary to expectations, smoking is allowed there and it therefore smells a bit.

The "Gemaltes Haus" is a long-established, traditional Frankfurt apple winery with the appropriate atmosphere. The paneled guest room with its special charm is typical here. The menu is typical and traditional for an apple winery, and a weekly menu is also served. The staff is friendly and helpful, the price/performance ratio corresponds to the area. For me, as a Frankfurter, a “Steppel Fleischworst” with cabbage and a glass of beer is a must. Definitely worth a visit 🙂

Found by chance. The atmosphere is very nice and the food is really tasty at normal prices. Highly recommended and not far from the shopping area. Overall, parking in Frankfurt is very, very difficult.

German place, typical German food but not the best, poor service, expensive price for the seasoning. It is typical German food but undoubtedly if you are a foreigner, order what you are sure to like. I'm not coming back.

Super good service, great food and lovely atmosphere. I had a 5-hour layover between flights and decided to leave the airport for dinner in Frankfurt. This place is extremely easily reachable by bus x61 from Terminal 1 to Südbahnhof. I would certainly visit it again :)
