Schwarzer Stern in Frankfurt am Main

My mother and I spontaneously stopped by for dinner yesterday. It wasn't too crowded and therefore quiet. I liked the decor, with lots of wood and appropriate, understated decor. The service was very friendly and quick, but not intrusive. The food came quickly and was good, although they could have done with more seasoning, as I had to add a fair amount of salt. It was just a shame that we were sitting right next to the open door. Although it was closed with a heavy curtain, that didn't help much when someone tried to enter the restaurant. All in all, a nice, relaxed lunch, with a slightly higher price tag.

What a fantastic restaurant! We’re traveling through Germany for 15 days and have tried many different places—but this one truly stands out as one of the best. The service was excellent, the food was outstanding, and the location couldn’t be better. We were able to sit inside, and the atmosphere was very comfortable and welcoming. Highly recommend!

A restaurant in the Romerberk district where you can also find traditional German dishes. The prices are reasonable. You can listen to the music of amateur artists in the square while eating your meal.

A large, historic restaurant on Römerplatz with delicious food, albeit somewhat pricey due to its location. The service was fast, and the wait for the food was relatively short.

Except for the panna cotta, everything was great. But the dessert was inedible. The staff was okay, but too few.

Our first food experience in Germany. Our first experience of German cuisine. It was difficult to translate the menu, but the server did everything he could to show us the dishes and was very friendly. It was fun. We didn't really like the apple wine, but we'll remember the knuckles and schnitzel. The pork knee is a must-try, and the breaded pork or veal fillets are also very good.

Having now visited the Schwarzer Stern twice, we were very impressed by the attentive and professional service staff. The dishes are imaginatively prepared and presented. It tastes as excellent as it looks. A sixth star for that. The beautiful, cozy interiors create a sense of well-being. It was perfect.

Lovely shady venue on the edge of the main square with excellent food and delicious wine. Efficient and good service. Highly recommended!

Schnitzel wasn't good enough for the price. Too small and breading too crispy. Staff very friendly and the dog was given a water bowl.

First night in Frankfurt, looking for a local German dinner. Greeted by a very rude Indian man, who wasn’t very pleasant. Entree was average. Meat component of the main was okay. Lacked vegetables as a side.

I’d give this place 10 stars if I could! Can’t say enough about it. The food was incredible - a relatively small menu but you can’t go wrong with any of it! The team they have there is incredible and provide outstanding service and an attentive dining experience. Get white asparagus if in season, try the local German wines, and always leave room for dessert 🙂

Based on the other reviews, I had much higher expectations for this place. I honestly don’t understand what the others spoke so highly of based on my experience. The place is your standard tourist trap on a picturesque European square, which is to say mediocre and overpriced. Food was perhaps 5 out of 10. Not terrible, but certainly not great. Bland and uninspired. The only positive thing I’ll say is that the service was attentive. I don’t think I’d come here again, and I don’t recommend it.

We were exploring Old Town in Frankfurt and found this restaurant. We loved everything about it. We had great service and delicious food. I was looking forward to trying Jagerschnitzel in Germany and it didn't disappoint. The coffee was good as well as the bread they served. Our server was friendly and helpful.

We had dinner here yesterday. As usual, it was very tasty and beautifully prepared. We chose sauerbraten and veal liver. The meat was very tender and the side dishes also tasted very good. Before that there was bread and a delicious spread on the house. The service was very friendly and attentive, but never intrusive. The rooms are all very clean, including the toilets and the view of the Römer is simply beautiful. Whenever we are in Frankfurt, we would love to come here again and again. It is highly recommended in every respect

The Black Star on the Römer is a real highlight in Frankfurt's old town. The atmosphere is modern, relaxed and cozy, just like you would want for a modern German restaurant. The food is excellent - especially the Frankfurt specialties and the German classics with a modern touch are highly recommended. Everything is fresh and tastes perfect! Great cinema in terms of craftsmanship! Of course, a glass of cool Ebbelwoi goes perfectly with this. The service is also great: warm, attentive and very hospitable. The location directly on the Römer also makes the Black Star an ideal place for locals and tourists alike. If you want to experience authentic and modern German cuisine, this is the right place for you. I'll definitely be back!

Good attention from the staff. What we ate, salad, knuckle and dessert, everything was very good. Beer yes or yes.

Never again to this pub. I don't recommend going here especially when an older angry waitress is on duty. This lady absolutely ruined our impression of the restaurant with her irrelevant attitude. An arrogant and unpleasant pretentious woman. We went there to seat 3 people. One of us didn't want to eat and only had a beer. The waitress made sure to remind us of her indignation that one of us didn't have food. The one who only had beer and wasn't hungry should have stayed outside on the street and watched them through the window ? Absolutely unapproachable behaviour.

Sehr aufmerksames und nettes Personal! Alle Gerichte waren sehr schön angerichtet! Auch die Lage direkt am Römer hat uns gut gefallen. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder!

Unfortunately, I cannot confirm the many positive reviews. A hearty smell of fish greeted us right at the entrance. Despite the almost empty restaurant, we (2 people) were assigned a table against the wall for one person without a view of the window because we didn't make a reservation. (?) The service came quickly, the wine was good, but the food! The menu read promisingly. We both ordered fish, the salmon was fried to death, the cod was oversalted. At least the side dishes were really tasty. But the price was too high for oversalted fish. Not again.

Spectacular location, in the most beautiful square in Frankfurt. Very German atmosphere, as expected; the room where we were a little bare, although the view of the square made up for the small defects. Considering the size of the restaurant and the location, it is obviously a very touristy restaurant; the culinary offering is quite sparse, the quality of the food is discreet. Friendly staff and fast service. Correct prices. We'll be back for the location.

I go to this restaurant every year. I've always had a good experience except for the last year. Really poor. At the reception there was a guy who insisted that without a reservation he couldn't let us in without giving me the opportunity to show it to him. Luckily a reasonable lady arrived and politely asked to see the reservation. On the occasion of the fair, a reduced menu and a few mediocre things.

Das Essen war gut und die Bedienung freundlich. Ein großes Plus ist die Lage mit schönem Blick auf den Römerberg. Was mich sehr gestört hat ist das Schild am Eingang, dass Kartenzahlung erst ab 50€ möglich ist. Das ist für ein solch gediegenes Restaurant mitten in Frankfurt unmöglich und für mich ein Grund dort nicht mehr hin zu gehen.

Reliable quality and service when we have guests visiting. The menu also provides options for all tastes: vegetarian, traditional German or something more fancy. Dishes are served beautifully and never disappoint.

I took my Sister for her birthday on our trip to the Christmas market. We had a wonderful view of the carousel outside and our food was delicious. Our server was very accommodating to a change on the menu. Delicious Apple strudel with ice cream. We will definitely eat there again. The atmosphere has so much charm.

A great spot for anyone who loves game dishes! The deer was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. The service was friendly and welcoming. Located right next to the Christmas market made it even more special. The food was excellent, and I’d definitely recommend it for a cozy and authentic German meal.

The food was really delicious! The atmosphere was good too. However, I went there knowing that I could pay by card for more than 50 euros, and it was written that way on the restaurant notice, but in the end, they encouraged me to pay in cash. I said I would pay by card because they only had a card, so they let me pay by card again. (If that's the case, why...🙁It's probably because of the fees) But the food was really great.

Despite the announcement on the door that card payments over €50 were accepted, it was not possible at all. We were only told this before paying. It doesn't work that way! The service was OK. However, the saddle of venison with 4 small potatoes for almost €40 was less than small. I won't come back. Addendum to the answer: My criticism regarding card payment is primarily aimed at pointing out the problems with card payment before ordering.

Ate there today. Portions are heavy in relation to the price - so I don't think so. Unfortunately, due to the speed in which the food came to the table, it can only be assumed that the dishes were well prepared. Unfortunately I can't recommend it, but it was full (with tourists?!).

Best lambs leaf with goats cheese salad I’ve ever had. Pumpkin soup was delicious. Both my husband and I had the veal schnitzel which was amazing. Jackie was the loveliest host and was friendly and helpful. Wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this restaurant to anyone visiting the area.

While on a business trip, I enjoyed dinner with colleagues. I went in without a reservation, but it was pretty crowded, so it's best to make a reservation. Schweimehaxe seems to be popular.

This restaurant is located on one side of Römerplatz. I used the outdoor seating, and it was a great place to eat while feeling the plaza. Hakse, schnitzel, fish dishes. I had salads etc and they all tasted quite great. In particular, the veal schnitzel has a memorable taste even compared to other places nearby. All my colleagues who ate with me also praised it. It would have been better if there were different types of sausages, but that was disappointing.

Visited in September 2024 I wondered why this store was the only one with no customers when the other stores were busy, but I decided to enter the store because it had high reviews. The location was nice, so I looked up and said it was cash only, but when I said I wasn't feeling well, I was told it was OK to pay by card, but the menu was just text, so there were no photos? There is no such thing. I asked if they had any sausages, but they didn't sell them at my house. This exchange made me sigh about three times.The food is plentiful, but the attitude is bad, so it's not a very pleasant restaurant.

The food was delicious, but people said it was artificial. The price is very expensive and the amount of food is just for one person.

My family and I had a wonderful experience at Schwarzer Stern! We did have a reservation and they acknowledged that right away and had our table ready for us. The food was exceptional. Several people had the grilled octopus appetizer and said it was delicious! All of our dinners came out piping hot and very tasty! The only downside I would say was that it was extremely hot ( outside and inside) and there were no fans to cool us down. We were there around 5:30pm, so maybe if we ate a little bit later, it would've been a little cooler. I would definitely recommend Schwarzer Stern for a delightful dining experience!
