We just loved this restaurant, and best of all- they made it all Gluten free!!! We had the Rib eye steak(41€), which was perfectly cooked, the Lamb backstrap(30€), beautifully tender, and the salad special which had chanterelles mushrooms, pear and walnuts. The fig dessert was the clear standout- slightly poached ripe fresh figs, chantilly cream, meringue and a champagne sorbet- just super yummy (12,80€). Who would of thought you could have a restaurant as good as this in the tourist part of town- do yourself a favour and gone here- staff were wonderful- made everything gluten free for me, and the building is stunning.

The restaurant is entitled to only accept card payments when the minimum is met, however, it would be helpful if this is said before food is ordered. (The minimum is 50 euros) Go elsewhere! The food is not even that great. Update: the managers left a message on my review. When I went to the restaurant, there was nothing written on the menu. When I asked the servers about it, they said the notice was posted next to their computer/register station. A very small notice, I should add, that unless you knew what you were looking for you were going to miss it Anyway, good luck to all :)

Recommended restaurant in a top location. Very friendly and really good food.

The food is not as good as expected. The Pork knuckle is hard, and the friend pork is dry inside, not juicy. The price of beverage is more expensive than other restaurants. The service person seems very busy and not be reached very easily. By the way, they also requested for at least 10% service fee. With this price, we should have a better choice in Frankfurt.

Can’t share how good of an experience our evening was. Had a lovely dinner with a beautiful background of the romer, and the staff were so kind and accommodating. My phone was dying and they even let me charge it for a bit 😂 highly recommend! The lamb was delicious

For me it was the best restaurant experience in years. A few days ago we accepted the invitation to this traditional inn for a wedding and were thrilled from the start. The wedding hall on the upper floor alone is impressive and worth a visit. High stucco ceilings surrounded by many brass candlesticks on the walls and a beautiful old cast iron fireplace. The wedding hall can be reached by stairs or, for people with disabilities, by an elevator. The service is first class. Sympathetic, attentive and above all memorable. The lady and the gentleman knew straight away which guest had ordered which food or drink. But only employees who can identify with the company or with the employer can do this. For the starter there was a truffled chive cream, which was excellently flavored and airy. The foccacia is lightly toasted. Baked into the dough were, among other things, fresh sage and carrots. The green asparagus still had a slight bite. The main course was beef fillet with a goat cheese crumble, a beetroot waffle and potato pancakes. Since I didn't specify any cooking level or the waiter didn't ask how I would like the fillet, I was served the fillet medium plus. Very tender, fried to perfection and wonderfully seasoned. All other components of this dish were also very well prepared. The three-course menu was rounded off with a woodruff cream dessert with marzipan. No further words necessary here either. Overall, I would like to thank you very much for this pleasant and culinary visit and stay and I am very pleased to have been able to experience your gastronomy. When I'm in Frankfurt, there's no question in my mind which inn I'll go to again.

I found the service very nice. I found the employees to be very attentive. I ordered a veal schnitzel and I thought it was very good. In Only the starter leaves something to be desired. I ordered pea soup. Unfortunately it was a bit cold. Overall, I would recommend the restaurant. A good German cuisine. Best regards

The location is very good. If you come here in the evening, you can not only enjoy the scenery, but also have a comfortable environment to eat. The service staff is very kind and welcoming, and very friendly to children. The food was pretty good and the overall atmosphere was great.

It overlooks the plaza where you can eat outside. You can enjoy the atmosphere of Germany. Also, the customer service is good and food and beer are served quickly. The price is reasonable and delicious. The indoor seats are also nice.

The Benediktiner Weissbier tastes wonderful and well enjoyed in the outside terrasse. Foods also very nice. Relatively easy to take a seats comparing to other restaurants in Römerplatz, I do not know why. It was wonderful experience to me enjoying Traditional German foods and beers with breezing feels good in early Summer.

Overall a great meal, the staff were welcoming and kind, I had the Grilled octopus for my main which was five star, the pork shank was presented well but even for pork it was very tough so let it down slightly although still enjoyable.

There were 8 of us and we had a wonderful evening. Orders were ready promptly, drinks requests were always attentively asked, and all dishes were lovingly prepared and tasted excellent. Great recommendation, the location directly at the Römer is also great

Although the view of the Römerberg Square from this German restaurant is very nice and the service is very good, no Germans seem to be part of the staff. My Wiener Schnitzel was somewhat overcooked and dry. Although Zabaione was clearly listed on the menu, when l asked the waiter about it he seemed puzzled and responded that they didn't serve it (?) There are likely more options for authentic local German cuisine in Sachsenhausen or at the north end of Bergerstrasse.

The food and beer were of high quality, and the restaurant's location on the corner of Römerberg square offered a vibrant atmosphere and a lovely view of the square. We thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance and look forward to visiting again.

Vegan dishes have disappeared from the menu. Although something was prepared, it wasn't really a filling portion. The statement “yes, I know, it doesn’t fill you up” was ultimately the crowning achievement.

Really delicious food- surprised in a touristy area but was pleasantly surprised. Also the service was wonderful . So friendly, came back to check to see how the meals were going (rare in Germany ), brought the kids food first, and overall just lovely

In Germany the service is always included in the price, however this restaurant adds €6 for service to the bill without any notice. Do not go there it's a scam! EDIT: After this review they refunded me the €6. Stars were increased from 1 to 3 as the food was actually very good.

Superb address in the historic center of Frankfurt! Located on the magnificent old town square, this establishment is ideally located and really beautiful. Very warm welcome, very pleasant and smiling, very efficient service, very professional and very beautiful, high quality menu, we really enjoyed ourselves. Have a nice evening.

I had dinner at this restaurant and overall I am satisfied. At first glance I was scared when I read about Italian dishes in the first pages, then as I browsed I found traditional German dishes. Slightly high prices but fast service and good food, ditto the beer. A special thanks to the waiter Taggy, attentive and ready to satisfy every request. PS: try the typical liqueurs, too bad they cost a little...

Very good and freshly prepared food. Mid price.

Dinner was fabulous with warm and friendly service. Food was particularly good, especially the vegetarian starters. Even the potatoes and gnocchis are outstanding. Restaurant was busy during our time of visit so it's quite impressing that all food arrived hot and all requests promptly attended to.

This restaurant was recommended by Westin hotel Frankfurt front desk. It indeed got a old fashion German food cooking if you want to understand the local cuisines... The service is good (English speaking is fine) and cost/performance us in the middle which worthwhile you a visiting...

German Restaurant Located on the main plaza in Frankfurt near the fountain of Justice. looks and taste like a typical German restaurant with all the things you can usually find: sausage, Schnitzel... I had my last Schnitzel of my trip in Frankfurt. Was quite yummy but a little bit dry. The staff of the restaurant put too much pressure on us on ordering thing when we wanted to enjoy our drinks first. All-in-all the food is good and the location is great. I would give 3/4 stars for the staff but the restaurant itself deserves the 5 stars.

Very tasty old German cuisine. The schnitzel is so big that you can hardly manage it alone. The restaurant is also very dog-friendly. The meat is high quality.

The meal was good but very expensive for what it is, the drinks the same. The big problem, the service! The waiter was very rude, we paid almost 100€ for 3 people. The latter insisted heavily on having a tip, so we said, put 1€ and finally told us that he could not do anything with 1€. It is unacceptable. In addition, street musicians came to beg several times during the meal and even placed their caps on our table during our meal. Find a better place, you'll have a better time.

I went to this place based on the positive reviews even though it was empty. Certainly very high prices and not matched by the quality of the food. Very slow service, we had to ask the waiter several times, even though the place was empty. The bad surprise, however, was on the bill, where a €15 tip was added without my knowledge. Very incorrect behavior, I strongly advise against this place.

First time to SS, definitely won't be my last. Probably going to be my annual stopover point. Great food, great beer and great service

We code this restaurant when my favorite place was closed on a Sunday. It was a waste of money and calories. The spargel specials were tasty but the mains, schnitzel, were thick greasy chewy cutlets and tasted of nothing. Expensive for what you get - I relearned my lesson of never eating on a touristy square.

We were a group of 10 French people. They saw the pigeons arriving because they offered to make a mix of starters (tomatoes, asparagus, cold meat, celery soup) which were very good but hello the bill! Knowing that we came for the shank which was delicious but which most were unable to finish, too bad... With such a rating you might expect a digestive to be offered, but no. On the other hand, the server was very pleasant!

It was our first time in the black star and we had a nice table with a view of the Römer. The service was very attentive. Overall we were very satisfied.

Given the location, it's usually a good local restaurant, or a tourist desk. This has not been confirmed. The service was very courteous, friendly and helpful without being intrusive. The food (oricchiette / corn poularde) was very nicely prepared/presented but unfortunately the taste was rather neutral. But the prices were so ambitious that we saved the tip. We feel sorry for the staff.

Excellent food and excellent service for large groups We had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant with a group of 17 people and our experience was entirely positive. We were impressed by the diversity of the menu, as we had a wide selection from salmon to schnitzel and steak. Both the starters and the desserts were deliciously prepared and left nothing to be desired. However, we would particularly like to highlight the exemplary service. Despite the size of our group, we were served promptly and professionally, and the staff were always friendly and attentive. It was clearly noticeable that the well-being of the guests was the team's top priority. The calm atmosphere allowed us to enjoy our meals in a relaxed environment. The billing process also went smoothly, which is often a challenge, especially for larger groups. Overall, we can recommend the restaurant “Zum Schwarzen Stern” at the Römer and are already looking forward to dining there again soon :-)

Reservations are required. The food is delicious. The service was penalized because it took them 1 hour to serve us the food.

Without infamy without praise, nice place, nice location, normal food but one star for the lack of transparency in the bill. They took advantage of this and put 10% tip without asking first. They missed an opportunity to behave elegantly.

The reception is friendly and you are immediately assigned a nice seat. After almost two years of successful renovation, the rooms are very attractive and have a traditional, high-quality style. That means: attentive, friendly, courteous, but never intrusive. Just as you would expect in a restaurant in this category. Beforehand, an amuse bouche is served before the ordered main course and drinks are served quickly. I have so much courtesy and attention It's been a long time since I've seen this consistently in the catering industry. Big compliment! The “Wiener Schnitzel” I ordered met my expectations 100%. I paid my third visit to the “Black Star” on the 3rd of Advent. I can only confirm my impressions again and again: consistently attentive, friendly and courteous service! The quality of the food is also at a very high level. This time I decided on the Jägerschnitzel and had the sauce served separately. Instead of the fried potatoes, I ordered french fries. Changing the dish described on the menu is no problem at all, which I consider to be a big plus. Conclusion: an all-round successful visit, which will definitely be followed by more! Today (Feb. 25, 24) I was once again able to convince myself of the excellent cuisine and top service from the “Schwarzer Stern”. Today I chose the “corn poularde stuffed with spinach” and I can give the dish a 10 out of 10 with a clear conscience. Excellent in taste and presentation in combination with the Parmesan Polenta! The service (as already mentioned at the beginning) was/is continuously at a very high level. Attentive and service oriented, but never intrusive. I also think the sanitary facilities are worth mentioning. They are always found in a very clean condition and have of course been completely redesigned as part of the renovation/refurbishment already mentioned. I'm already looking forward to the next visit!

A perfect evening. There were three of us here for dinner (reserved in advance). It was really nice. Attentive, friendly service and the food was fresh and delicious. We had 2 Jäger Schnitzels with mushroom sauce and fried potatoes as well as 1 classic Wiener Schnitzel, I think these were the best schnitzels and fried potatoes we have eaten recently, well seasoned, well presented, and served with a great fresh leaf salad. We will definitely come back!! Great value for money.

Were here for the first time during a short trip to Frankf. The reception was very friendly and they reserved a nice table for us with a view of the Römer. Then Jaggi accompanied us through the really successful culinary evening with very competent advice (especially on the excellent sparkling wine and wine) and extremely friendly, good-humored personal service. The food (starter, main course + dessert) was excellent: wonderfully presented and deliciously prepared. Clearly someone is cooking here with passion, clever ideas and a high level of competence! Every plate is a pleasure! And at the end Jaggi spoiled us with a special treat. "Gourmandises" with coffee and a glass of Williams pear. An all-round successful evening! And it's a shame that we don't live in Frankf, otherwise we would like to be regular customers here...

I don't understand German! Serious service attitude! I didn’t get what I wanted to eat

Well…🫤 To start with, we didn't get our table until 30 minutes after our reservation and had to wait at a counter. Admittedly we got a drink on the house as compensation, which was very thoughtful. The customers were mostly classic “teachers” with slightly wrinkled noses (age 55+). It just seemed a bit stiff, despite the relatively loud noise level. The service can be described as inattentive - while the order was being taken, the waiter looked in completely different directions and his head wasn't really present. This also applied to the “friendly questions” he asked us, such as “Are you okay?” / Did it taste good?” - that seemed very half-hearted and artificial due to his absence. Nevertheless, the food itself came quite quickly. The food was rather average and in our opinion not a level to charge such prices. It was definitely tasty, but nothing special. Compared to other restaurants, the fries were NOT counted in my schnitzel. There was a decent amount on there! The salad had a very weak, almost tasteless dressing on it. Dessert was on the house - a greeting from the kitchen. Also a very friendly gesture. All in all a nice restaurant, but the price-performance ratio is not right. Waiting 30 minutes for your table on an empty stomach doesn't necessarily improve your mood. PS: A relatively tall middle-aged man and a young southern man tried hard and were friendly! Here, one or two of our own ranks could certainly learn something from the service behavior.

We had reserved and were quickly assigned a table with a view of the Römer. The restaurant has an attractive ambience, is very well maintained and has pleasant lighting. The waitresses were very friendly, quick and gave us good advice. The food (veal liver and cod) was excellent, attractively arranged and, in addition to being a treat for the palate, was also something to behold. Everything tasted well seasoned, no “one size fits all” and with homemade sauces. Conclusion: Excellent, upscale restaurant, with an exceptional location and the best quality.

This is a restaurant with a nice atmosphere in Römerplatz. I was able to have a pleasant dinner with my fellow diners thanks to the waiter's cheerful and friendly guidance and menu explanation.

It is a restaurant that mainly attracts tourists. The menu is clear, to be honest, that's an exaggeration. The service was courteous, but the inner happiness of the service staff was missing. The fried potatoes with the schnitzel were jacket potatoes, very poorly prepared. 0.5 liters of beer for €6.00 ​​- that's a remarkable price 🙄 I wouldn't go there again

After we stopped there, a short time later, me and my girlfriend unfortunately felt very bad. We vomited several times throughout the night. There is much better quality in Frankfurt. Never again!
