The food was good, everything tasted delicious. The service was very friendly, attentive, competent, and entertaining. A wonderful traditional restaurant. I'd gladly return.

A small suggestion: when ordering food, please ask older guests if they would like the senior portion. It's pointless to mention after the meal that they could have ordered it if there was no indication of this option. Otherwise, everything was excellent.

Very nice restaurant on the square. The most expensive Wiener Schnitzel in Frankfurt. Good, but not the best. They don't serve strudel. Kaiserschmarn inedible. €110 for 2

I visited the restaurant for a business dinner. Centrally located in Roemer, nicely decorated for Christmas, tasty food. The carrot-ginger soup was my favorite plate from a three-course dinner. The chicken was also tasty and very tender and the chocolate mousse had a special twist, with olive oil and sea salt. In total a lovely dinner.

I visited during lunchtime and ordered risotto, goulash, and two beers. The staff was very accommodating, and while there were tourists, I also saw locals enjoying their meals. First of all, the salmon in the risotto was delicious, and the risotto itself was also excellent. The goulash had a slight meaty flavor, so some people might not like it, but overall, I was very satisfied with the meal!

Service varied. Some were incredibly arrogant, others were nice. The food was okay. My Wiener Schnitzel was unfortunately bland and ridiculously expensive at €35. The roast pork, on the other hand, was really good. But overall, very overpriced.

I visited this restaurant with my important customers for a business dinner. We enjoyed showing them the traditional German pork dishes, and I ordered the salmon, which was excellent. The dessert — a classic German apple pie — was also delicious. The atmosphere, food, and service were all outstanding. I will definitely come again next time!

We rented the Römerstube for a business dinner with 45 people. The entire process was seamless and reliable. The tables were beautifully decorated. A lovely view of the Römer. Excellent service. Despite the large number of people, the food arrived at the same time and was beautifully presented and delicious.

We really enjoyed it; the food was delicious, the seating was lovely, and the service was very friendly. It was perfect for our after-party for my mother's 88th birthday. We'll be back for dinner sometime.

Absolutely fantastic!! We wanted to enjoy some really good, hearty German food in Frankfurt before our daughter left for a semester abroad! There's a diverse selection of quaint and beautiful restaurants near the Römer. We spontaneously decided on the Schwarzer Stern. Also because we didn't have a reservation and the place was quite empty inside and out. While this isn't a good sign at first glance, when all the other restaurants in the area are three times as busy and you already expect to be overpriced and not eating well enough in a tourist hotspot, we did it anyway. We were not disappointed in the slightest. A beautiful restaurant with fantastic, very friendly and attentive service. We also had an outstanding meal. Prices were high, but OK. And for what you get, it was definitely totally OK. We were thrilled. And when we pick up our daughter from Frankfurt again in six months, we'll definitely be back!!!

A very ordinary kitchen in a cardboard decor

I really enjoyed my staying. The food was good and arrived in a more than reasonable time. The espresso was a surprise: better than the average I'm use to drink in Milan. I'll return again hoping to able to eat outside.

The schnitzel was just as I expected, but the sauce was a bit herbal. The octopus was much softer than I expected, and the risotto underneath was so crispy, it was delicious! The German kimchi was also good.

We had a lovely dining experience in this beautiful restaurant, waitresses and staff were extremely kind and friendly people to be around, service was excellent and the food ordered looked stunning and tasty, generally a lovely restaurant and charming experience for us, would highly recommended to everyone!

A great restaurant with absolutely delicious food and very friendly staff!

Located in the prime spot of Romerberg, the decor is elegant and beautiful, with large indoor and outdoor area, and we can fully enjoy the atmosphere of the square. The food quality is okay, but we did not like the fish soup as it was too sour. Everything else was fine. The staff were very friendly, and the dining experience was pleasant.

An average visit with delicious soups. The restaurant itself offers a solid but unspectacular ambiance—nothing particularly outstanding, but certainly pleasant for a relaxed meal. The real surprise, however, lies in the soups: wonderfully seasoned, beautifully presented, and tastes well above average. Whether creamy vegetable variations or spicy broths, they know how to bring real warmth to the bowl with simple ingredients. The rest of the menu was okay, but nothing remarkable. Anyone who appreciates good soup will definitely find a reason to return here.

Since born in the region I tend to avoid the touristy restaurants around the Römerberg. But when another restaurant shunned us because it was too busy, the Schwarzer Stern delivered: wonderful outside seating with view of the busy Römerberg, very friendly service and delicious food, especially the green sauce with it's fresh ingredients. I was at the Schwarzer Stern for a business trip. The service was absolutely fantastic! Very attentive, incredibly fast, and super friendly. I've rarely experienced anything like it! The food was quite good. I had a soup that was a bit too thick for my taste; it was more like mush. But the taste was nothing to complain about. Now, the reason for only giving it three stars. I had shrimp, which were unfortunately completely dry. They had been in the pan or oven for too long, and the linguine was waaaaay overcooked. The dessert was good, but I found it too sweet, although I often have that problem... I'm generally a very discerning restaurant goer. This place is definitely worth a look; I personally think there are places with better value for money.

I’ve visited this place twice, but my experience today was truly disappointing. When we ordered a bottle of water, the waiter spilled a large amount on the table while pouring it, without offering any explanation or apology. At the end of our meal, I decided not to leave a tip due to the poor service. Shockingly, the waiter responded with, “I don’t have time to talk to you.” This level of unprofessionalism and rudeness is unacceptable. I expected much better service. Very disappointing experience overall — I won’t be coming back.

Well, Schwarz Stern does a good job on decorating their restaurant, plus the location of right in the Romer Square, business is pretty easy. But the food itself was not impressed, other than White Asparagus is the seasonal vegetable, the boiled beef and eggs both served with green sauce, was kind of boring. Come here to have a drink if you need a place for relaxing.

Had dinner tonight at Restaurant Schwartzer Stern. I came in late, 9:00pm, ordered their asparagus soup, one of the night’s specials, and a glass of wine. The soup was watery, a smidgen of asparagus taste, and the service was nonexistent. After delivering my soup and wine, no one came by to ask about the soup, or after I finished to ask if I’d like a coffee or desert. However, I noticed a business party of five receiving extraordinary service. I had to call over the server to pay my bill, cash only because it was under 50 Euros, and he mentioned I could include a gratuity. I asked him for what service? As expected, no apology was forthcoming. Poor customer service and based on the soup, mediocre food.

My mother and I spontaneously stopped by for dinner yesterday. It wasn't too crowded and therefore quiet. I liked the decor, with lots of wood and appropriate, understated decor. The service was very friendly and quick, but not intrusive. The food came quickly and was good, although they could have done with more seasoning, as I had to add a fair amount of salt. It was just a shame that we were sitting right next to the open door. Although it was closed with a heavy curtain, that didn't help much when someone tried to enter the restaurant. All in all, a nice, relaxed lunch, with a slightly higher price tag.

What a fantastic restaurant! We’re traveling through Germany for 15 days and have tried many different places—but this one truly stands out as one of the best. The service was excellent, the food was outstanding, and the location couldn’t be better. We were able to sit inside, and the atmosphere was very comfortable and welcoming. Highly recommend!

A large, historic restaurant on Römerplatz with delicious food, albeit somewhat pricey due to its location. The service was fast, and the wait for the food was relatively short.

Our first food experience in Germany. Our first experience of German cuisine. It was difficult to translate the menu, but the server did everything he could to show us the dishes and was very friendly. It was fun. First night in Frankfurt, looking for a local German dinner. Greeted by a very rude Indian man, who wasn’t very pleasant. Entree was average. Meat component of the main was okay. Lacked vegetables as a side.

I’d give this place 10 stars if I could! Can’t say enough about it. The food was incredible - a relatively small menu but you can’t go wrong with any of it! The team they have there is incredible and provide outstanding service and an attentive dining experience. Get white asparagus if in season, try the local German wines, and always leave room for dessert 🙂

Based on the other reviews, I had much higher expectations for this place. I honestly don’t understand what the others spoke so highly of based on my experience. The place is your standard tourist trap on a picturesque European square, which is to say mediocre and overpriced. Food was perhaps 5 out of 10. Not terrible, but certainly not great. Bland and uninspired. The only positive thing I’ll say is that the service was attentive. I don’t think I’d come here again, and I don’t recommend it.

We were exploring Old Town in Frankfurt and found this restaurant. We loved everything about it. We had great service and delicious food. I was looking forward to trying Jagerschnitzel in Germany and it didn't disappoint. The coffee was good as well as the bread they served. Our server was friendly and helpful.

We had dinner here yesterday. As usual, it was very tasty and beautifully prepared. We chose sauerbraten and veal liver. The meat was very tender and the side dishes also tasted very good. Before that there was bread and a delicious spread on the house. The service was very friendly and attentive, but never intrusive. The rooms are all very clean, including the toilets and the view of the Römer is simply beautiful. Whenever we are in Frankfurt, we would love to come here again and again. It is highly recommended in every respect

The Black Star on the Römer is a real highlight in Frankfurt's old town. The atmosphere is modern, relaxed and cozy, just like you would want for a modern German restaurant. The food is excellent - especially the Frankfurt specialties and the German classics with a modern touch are highly recommended. Everything is fresh and tastes perfect! Great cinema in terms of craftsmanship! Of course, a glass of cool Ebbelwoi goes perfectly with this. The service is also great: warm, attentive and very hospitable. The location directly on the Römer also makes the Black Star an ideal place for locals and tourists alike. If you want to experience authentic and modern German cuisine, this is the right place for you. I'll definitely be back!

Never again to this pub. I don't recommend going here especially when an older angry waitress is on duty. This lady absolutely ruined our impression of the restaurant with her irrelevant attitude. An arrogant and unpleasant pretentious woman. We went there to seat 3 people. One of us didn't want to eat and only had a beer. The waitress made sure to remind us of her indignation that one of us didn't have food. The one who only had beer and wasn't hungry should have stayed outside on the street and watched them through the window ? Absolutely unapproachable behaviour.

Despite the almost empty restaurant, we (2 people) were assigned a table against the wall for one person without a view of the window because we didn't make a reservation. (?) The service came quickly, the wine was good, but the food! The menu read promisingly. We both ordered fish, the salmon was fried to death, the cod was oversalted. At least the side dishes were really tasty. But the price was too high for oversalted fish. Not again.

Spectacular location, in the most beautiful square in Frankfurt. Very German atmosphere, as expected; the room where we were a little bare, although the view of the square made up for the small defects. Considering the size of the restaurant and the location, it is obviously a very touristy restaurant; the culinary offering is quite sparse, the quality of the food is discreet. I go to this restaurant every year. I've always had a good experience except for the last year. Really poor. At the reception there was a guy who insisted that without a reservation he couldn't let us in without giving me the opportunity to show it to him. Luckily a reasonable lady arrived and politely asked to see the reservation. On the occasion of the fair, a reduced menu and a few mediocre things.

Das Essen war gut und die Bedienung freundlich. Ein großes Plus ist die Lage mit schönem Blick auf den Römerberg. Was mich sehr gestört hat ist das Schild am Eingang, dass Kartenzahlung erst ab 50€ möglich ist. Das ist für ein solch gediegenes Restaurant mitten in Frankfurt unmöglich und für mich ein Grund dort nicht mehr hin zu gehen.

I took my Sister for her birthday on our trip to the Christmas market. We had a wonderful view of the carousel outside and our food was delicious. Our server was very accommodating to a change on the menu. Delicious Apple strudel with ice cream. We will definitely eat there again. The atmosphere has so much charm.
