Zum Freibeuter Störtebeker + Freibeuter Diner-Pub in Helgoland

During a long weekend on Heligoland, we had the pleasure of spending two evenings enjoying live music at Störtebecker – what can I say, they were the highlights of our day each night. The place is incredibly cozy, the staff is super friendly and efficient, and I'll never again hear "Westerland" by Die Ärzte without singing "Helgoland" instead of "Westerland" during the chorus and remembering Störtebecker. I'm already looking forward to our next visit to Heligoland and my new favorite pub.

A quaint restaurant with great service and food. The ambiance truly fits the name and is perfectly attuned to it. The food was delicious with generous portion sizes. We thoroughly enjoyed it! The staff were incredibly warm and attentive. Even with children, we were very welcome. We thank you and will definitely be back!

Looking back on our visit in 2022, there's nothing negative to say about this place. The schnitzel and side dishes were extremely tasty.

We ordered fish dishes, the pan-fried fish was served in a cast iron pan which was so hot that the fat splashed around and dirty my T-shirt.

A true insider tip on the island! The rustic, maritime ambiance immediately captivates and makes the visit a truly memorable experience. The staff were extremely friendly, attentive, and welcoming – we felt completely at home. The food? Simply fantastic! Whether it was panfish, schnitzel, or sea bream – everything was prepared to perfection and tasted divine. The value for money is also absolutely spot on. The attention to detail in the presentation is particularly noteworthy. We'll definitely be back – this restaurant is a must for every visitor to Heligoland! An absolute five-star recommendation!

We had a reservation there and were split between several tables anyway because it was so crowded. The staff were consistently unfriendly and insulted us. They didn't have any vegetarian portions either, so we ordered a portion of fries, which consisted of four soggy fries and a lettuce leaf. The Coke was okay, but what could you possibly go wrong? My companion's vegetables were burnt on the bottom, and it was served in a hot pan. By the time we could touch the "plate," the portion was cold again. The restroom was dirty, and we bumped into each other everywhere. The rest of the atmosphere wasn't particularly pleasant either. When we paid, we were given another stupid stare. Edit: NO, I definitely did NOT pick the restaurant. 1. It just shows how marginal the business is if it can't accept honest criticism. It's possible that the menu has changed, but in July 2024, no vegetarian dishes were planned -> "We don't serve vegetarian dishes for groups of more than 10 people." 2. I never said anything about the parking. I know very well that there are no cars on Heligoland. 3. It's clearly visible in the photo that salad is served with the fries. Please accept criticism in the future and reconsider instead of criticizing your customers in the comments.

Very cozy and quaint. The service is very attentive. The meal was a delight. (Sea bream / panfish) can only be recommended. Thank you for the lovely evening. It is recommended to reserve a table.

Very tasty food and very friendly service. We really enjoyed the time.

Good morning, Unfortunately we couldn't make a reservation by phone, so we went straight to the restaurant. The nice waiter arranged a time with us that evening. So we went for another walk. We got a table straight away at the appointed time. The hospitality was super nice. Due to technical problems our order was lost. We were immediately offered a liqueur and then the food arrived in a quick and reasonable time. The food was very tasty and nicely prepared. The portions were sufficiently large. The ambience was great; the music is correspondingly good. Unfortunately we couldn't make a reservation again for the following day because the restaurant has the same problem as many restaurants - a lack of staff! This shows qualitative thinking, because if there are too few staff on an evening, then the service will be worse. We were totally satisfied and would come again and again.

We had 2 really nice evenings there...the food was prepared with a lot of love and skill...Störtebeker is an absolute must next time you're on the island...

We were turned away in the most unfriendly manner because we hadn't made a reservation. The service staff might have found a solution, but the supposed boss had given strict instructions not to entertain anyone, even though it was still early in the evening. We knew the restaurant from previous stays in Helgoland, the food was averagely good, the atmosphere was nice. We regret such developments, obviously there is no need for them. We won't be visiting the restaurant again.

To make it short: The restaurant is quaint, the chef is “an original” and the portions are generous for the price. It's a shame we're going again tomorrow.

Woe betide anyone who leans against the worn-out furniture for a moment because of the pain. First he explains from a distance about the type of furniture, after explaining the reason for the leaning (knee problems), he offers to climb onto a bar stool (KNEE PROBLEMS) and, after once again expressing the pain in a mass of insults, offers to add to the pain strengthen. Apparently the young man has made the name of his restaurant too much his own to have any understanding for the people he will hopefully be one of in a few years.

Were there yesterday with 6 people and ate and drank very well. Totally nice host who is happy to accommodate special requests. Very cozy restaurant that I would happily recommend. The trip to the Oberland is worth it and we would love to come back!

It wasn't our first time in this restaurant either. We ate very well and felt comfortable. We liked the service very much. We'd love to come back. We were here today and again enjoyed great service and excellent food. Always happy again. Here, too, there is a lack of staff in the catering industry, but everything went extremely well.

We ate Störtebeker food several times. This time we got advice from the service about our choice of food. That was a top recommendation. Not often that I've had such bad food. 1/3 of my food was black, burnt. When I've mentioned this to the waitress she shrugs her shoulders and makes a stupid joke

Great food, good music in a dignified atmosphere

Not recommended. The only thing we were offered was fish and burgers, nothing else, there wasn't even a menu. As a vegetarian it was almost impossible to get something vegetarian... Some of the food was burnt. A large drink here is a 0.3 and not 0.5. But value for money is good. The restaurant is stuffy overall - there is only one toilet and it smells unpleasant. The staff was quite unfriendly - rolled their eyes as soon as you noticed a mistake. Despite this, the staff made an effort.

A bit run down restaurant. Service ok. The fish plate was ok, four small pieces of fish. The fried potatoes in the pan fish were a little too dark, the mustard sauce served was thin and tasted of vinegar. The vegetable plate was nothing, the vegetables were almost raw and swimming in oil. After complaining, the cauliflower was missing. Nothing for vegetarians. Knieper as a starter is quite expensive: two pieces of scissors cost EUR 15.00.

Ich hatte um nicht so dunkle Bratkartoffeln gebeten, bekam aber Brand- statt Bratkartofflen. Als ich die Bedienung darauf ansprach, sagte sie nur, darun könne sie nun auch nichts mehr ändern.

I have no idea what kind of film Mr. Florian5120Pro is driving, but it was yesterday evening, despite problems with the stove, NO problem ordering 7 different meals, with reorders! And oooh wonder, they even came to the table at the same time and EVERYTHING was damn delicious 😋 😋 😋 Dear Freibeuter team, keep it up!!!👍👍👍

All in all an interesting experience. Table reserved for 7 p.m., shop open until 9 p.m. The waiter greeted us with the information that something was broken in the kitchen, but couldn't say what. After a round of questions about what was available and what wasn't, we decided on the "Knieper tasting plate", which consisted of two crab claws and a few arm pieces, a tomato soup and two plaice dishes. Otherwise there would apparently only have been Cordon Bleu, the rest was not possible. After receiving the starter, you always felt like you were unwelcome. The waiter stopped by the table several times and asked if he could clear the table even though we clearly hadn't finished eating yet. There was no fish cutlery (bad for a whole fish) and dessert was only available upon request. All in all the food was ok but way too expensive for what it was. 27-28€ for plaice with a few jacket potatoes (which should be boiled potatoes) is quite excessive in my opinion. Oh, special orders, for example. Fried potatoes instead of boiled potatoes cost €2.50 extra (but they weren't possible even though there were potatoes??), even though there was hardly anything due to the defect, a service technical masterpiece. There are 2 stars for this only because I recognize that the waiter works at a time when others are free.

Had the fried cod. The taste was ok, hardly salted, but the portion was a joke, especially given the fairly high price. Price-performance ratio is simply not right at all. Unfortunately I can only advise against this place.

We ate at Störti on three evenings with 7 people and were thrilled. The steak and the shrimp pan with garlic were amazing! Thanks to Ronny, Wencke and Frank for the good hospitality. Would love to come back.

Despite asking in advance whether we could get something to eat from them at 7 p.m. (promise), we were sent away again. I specifically asked if we should make a reservation, no, not necessary. You shouldn't rely on the word of the lady behind the counter. It's a shame, I have very fond memories of the restaurant.

Cozy atmosphere, excellent food, great service!

Great food, nice rustic, just like the furnishings, you could think that you are at home with the Störtebeckers 😍 super cool furnished with a lot of love for the details. The food was really great. I can highly recommend the boat pawn and the giant shrimp pan. There is also a really lovely waitress who provided great service. It's hidden and maybe not everyone knows it but it's super good and super tasty 🤤 Guys it's a must!!!! So the smallest and most unknown can still be one of the best.

Very nice restaurant. Top service. Here you are really noticed as a guest and as a guest you are king. Of course, everything has its price, but you pay for good quality. Portion size for the woman is absolutely fine, for the man it could be a little more but that is subjective. We'd love to come back!

Good home-style restaurant. We ordered the fish platter. Plenty of fish and very well fried. In contrast to other reviews, we can say that the fried potatoes were very good and sufficient. A clear recommendation

A quaint pub with normal prices. Basically the food was very tasty. The only downside were the fried potatoes, which were far too few. The waitress was informed of this and we were given an additional portion for a fee (4 euros). If you read the reviews, fried potatoes seem to be a constant topic here.

All in all we had a very nice evening. My only complaint is that the food came very, very quickly. We waited a maximum of 10 minutes and that suggests that not everything was freshly prepared. The portions were rather small. We also had a schnitzel which was very thin.

We were there on our vacation a few days ago. My husband ordered a mixed fish plate, I had the cod with triplets. Everything was exceptionally delicious and fresh! We also ordered bread and herb butter. My husband was still talking about the food days later. The salmon in particular was very tender, juicy and crispy. If we had stayed longer on Helgoland we would have come to eat a second time. Thank you!

Great restaurant with friendly staff and delicious food.

We were there yesterday and ate the pan fish. The fish was fried just right, the mustard sauce was delicious but you had to look for the soggy, burnt and extremely greasy fried potatoes underneath the fish. When the waitress asked if everything was OK, I ordered more fried potatoes and mustard sauce because I just couldn't get enough. I was also hoping for better fried potatoes. This repeat order cost 4 euros for a small amount of fried potatoes and 3.50 euros for half a portion of mustard sauce. If you want to get your fill at a reasonable price, you should go to the Seehund. The service there is nicer too.

Hello and hello, we have pre-ordered a table for 7 people weeks ago and received confirmation of it via email with the date and time. Unfortunately, it probably wasn't worth anything because we were standing in front of the restaurant and didn't get a table. We were even treated very unfriendly. I can't recommend the restaurant, it looked very cozy from the outside, nothing more. Fortunately, we still had nice experiences with restaurants on Heligoland. This was the worst mfg Peter from OWL

Klasse Restaurant.....Besitzerin war genau meine Wellenlinie mit Humor und Musikgeschmack. Das Essen war wirklich sehr gut. Gab nichts zu meckern.

Man darf sich von dem äußeren Schein nicht täuschen lassen. Wir sind lediglich hier essen gegangen, da kein anderes Restaurant einen Tisch frei hatte. Im Endeffekt mussten wir feststellen , dass dieses Restaurant ein absoluter Geheimtipp ist. Von außen sehr unscheinbar, von innen sehr urig. Mit sehr nettem Personal und sehr gutem Essen. Die Burger sind auf absolute Begeisterung gestoßen, die „Fischbestellungen“ ebenfalls und auch die vegane Gemüsepfanne war sehr lecker. Wir sind 6 Personen und alle waren begeistert. Beim nächsten Aufenthalt werden wir wieder dorthin gehen. Also klare Empfehlung und lasst euch nicht vom äußeren Schein abschrecken.

Ich war spontan mit meinen beiden Söhnen (11&13)zum Abendessen dort. Die Bedingung war freundlich und umsichtig. Das Essen hat uns allen geschmeckt. Leider gab es kein Labskaus. Ambiente passend zum Namen rustikal,urig. Gerne wieder

Wir hatten ein Inseltiket gekauft und uns schon auf die vielen verschiedenen Speisen zum ausprobieren gefreut. Nun wollten wir auch den Gutschein 2 für 1 Baguette ihrer Wahl einlösen. Statt 16 Uhr wurde erst 17 Uhr geöffnet. Nah bei einer Woche Aufenthalt kein Problem, also wir um 17 Uhr wieder hin, aber dort wurde uns mitgeteilt, das er gar keine Baguette macht, jedenfalls nicht diese Woche, vielleicht nächste Woche. WENN er keine Lust hat, dann sollte er sich nicht im Ticket eintragen lassen. Wir werden dort nicht mehr hingehen!!!!!

Super Lecker Gemütliches Ambiente Super netter Service

Der Fischteller war sein Geld nicht wert, wir haben selten Fisch gegessen, der noch toter gebraten war, trocken bis zum geht nicht mehr. Bratkartoffeln aus Pellkartoffeln in Scheiben geschnitten mit Schale dran habe ich bisher nicht gekannt, muss ich aber auch nicht mehr haben, da die schmalen Schalen am Gaumen hängen bleiben. Insgesamt kaum gewürzt. Das Restaurant war nicht voll, die Bedienung hat es aber geschafft nicht einmal nachzufragen, ob wir noch etwas trinken wollten. Passte alles zusammen, ein insgesamt sehr "trockener" Abend, den man nicht wiederholen muss

Wir sind satt geworden aber für unseren Geschmack Zuviel aus der Fritteuse.

Das Essen hat normale Qualität. Wir konnten dort essen und als wir unseren Platz räumten wurden neue Gäste weggeschickt obwohl für unseren Tisch keine Reservierung vorlag. Die Nudeln mit Garnelen waren schmackhaft aber die Nudeln musste man suchen siehe Foto

Absolut leckeres Essen. Super Fisch- und Fleischgerichte und die Rote Grütze ist echt klasse. 👍 Und zur Verdauung einen Haselnuss-Brandy😋 Die Einrichtung ist auch total urig und passt optimal zum Namen. Beim nächsten Urlaub sind wir bestimmt wieder hier😊
