First of all: We tried the "national dish" of the Heligolanders, "Knieper," for the first time – and it was excellent. For those unfamiliar with the dish (like we were before): Knieper are the claws of the edible crab and are considered a culinary specialty, especially on the North Sea island of Heligoland. Our tip: If you're planning a short trip, be sure to pre-order – we were warmly welcomed and given a brief introduction to the best way to eat Knieper. We can't say enough about this dish, the service, and the entire restaurant. We paid exactly 100 euros for drinks, dessert, and two schnapps. There's nothing to complain about. We'd love to come back!

The Hamburg-style pan-fried fish was delicious. My wife was also very pleased with the large fish salad.

Make a reservation. Be on time. The restaurant is booked well in advance and only accepts what the kitchen can handle. The ambiance is a bit of a bygone charm—no matter, the food is excellent and the service is very friendly and attentive. Tip: the fish soup with generous garnish.

We already enjoyed a delicious fish platter for two here in June 2025. It was delicious and plentiful. We'll definitely be back on our next trip to Heligoland. It's important to make reservations early.

Very tasty fish, good service and beautiful location

The ambience is a point deducted, and the service is full marks. The food tastes wonderful; I had a soup and salad with four different types of fish. I highly recommend it; you'll definitely leave with a full stomach and a smile.

The food was incredibly delicious. For those who don't eat fish, there's cordon bleu, schnitzel, and, upon request, penne without salmon. The service was excellent and met all our requests. The food wasn't hot, so it could be eaten straight away. Reservations are highly recommended.

We had cod and the scampi pan for main courses. The cod was of good quality and quantity, but the scampi pan (also crispy and delicious) was more of an appetizer with five scampi, three baguette slices, and some vegetables, all for €25.90. To fill up, my wife ordered more bread, which was charged at 40 cents. Given our €90 bill, those 40 cents are especially significant.

We've been guests at Atlantis for years. The food was getting worse and worse, but this time it reached its peak: The fish was so cooked (or reheated) that it was impossible to cut with a fish knife; a steak knife would have been more appropriate. The salmon on the fish platter was also overcooked. We only received one portion of sauce for the two fish platters (€29.90 each), and when we asked for a second portion, we were rudely informed that it would cost extra. If we had any complaints, we should contact the manager. When we then asked for her (he had referred to her several times, "the manager..."), we were told that she worked in the kitchen and we could contact her outside of opening hours. When the neighboring table also complained about the food, we were all accused of conspiring. The waiter refused to even give a tip. He pointedly handed over the 80 cents. Never again; there are still some alternatives on Heligoland.

Super great restaurant, very tasty and friendly staff.

The Knieper was excellent, but what I liked best was the service. The surroundings and the view are also nice, especially when sitting outside.

Today, after making a last-minute reservation (the day before) and pre-ordering knee pads, we went to Atlantis with our two children. It was perfect from start to finish. The waiter was incredibly attentive, helpful, and very accommodating to our two children (who were very annoying that evening due to their tiredness). They both received a full glass of ice cubes upon request (no charge), and we never felt unwelcome. Quite the opposite: we were told we were welcome to stay longer (our reservation was from 5-7 p.m.). Absolutely top-notch. Unfortunately, we left quite early because of the children's mood; it certainly would have been an even more enjoyable evening. I can't confirm the negative reviews from some previous reviewers. This was definitely not our last visit! Keep it up 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I should also mention that we spontaneously visited a few days earlier and were very politely informed that, unfortunately, there were no seats available. Absolutely proper behavior, nothing serious to complain about. They even recommended a nearby restaurant as an alternative. Addendum: July 17, 2025 Yesterday, we reserved a table for four people at short notice and pre-ordered a Knieper (a kind of fried fish). No problem at all. We arrived on time, and the place was well-stocked. Our table was free, and as always, it was impeccable. The service was absolutely superb, friendly, and the waiter had time for a quick chat and a little joke. The Knieper (a kind of fried fish) was excellent; the children's requests were accommodated without complaint. We expected the Heligoland fish stew to be spicier and spicier, but that's complaining at a high level. A visit to Atlantis is a regular part of our stays on Heligoland. Keep it up, you're great 👍🏻👍🏻 That's how we expect good food, and we're happy to pay a euro more. See you soon!

We spent a lovely evening there with a large group. Seating was a bit limited, but the waiter made up for it. We were truly impressed by the good and honest recommendations and island stories.

The way reservations are handled is completely inappropriate. We spoke to the owner twice and reserved a table for 14 people for a meal after a burial at sea. It didn't work out, even though we announced and assured everyone we would be there, and arrived on time, the table was given away. NOT RECOMMENDED...especially in such a difficult and tragic situation...embarrassing for the restaurant and the staff. Our statement that a 7 p.m. time was agreed upon is certainly true. With the clear statement: WE'RE DEFINITELY COMING. This wasn't a fun outing where we forgot the time, but rather a highly emotionally charged situation with unpredictable reactions, hence the time frame (starting at 5 p.m. and booking the table at 7 p.m.).

We had reserved a table for the evening at lunch and got one. In the evening, we opted for the "La Mer" fish platter for two people. Cost: €31.90. Very tasty and definitely enough for two people. There was always a pleasant conversation while being served. I can only recommend eating here.

We reserved a table two weeks in advance so we could actually make it while on vacation. We had fish soup, schnitzel, and schnitzel with a topping. SUPER DELICIOUS. We'd love to go again next time we visit the island. Friendly, attentive service, we felt very comfortable. We visited Atlantis for the first time today based on a recommendation. We didn't regret it. The food was excellent. We had the steak plate and the spaghetti with shrimp. The service was very friendly and attentive. We will definitely eat there again on one of our next stays. Thank you. It's important to make a reservation in advance. Ideally, weeks in advance. It works perfectly.

Our visit to the Atlantis Restaurant on Heligoland was once again a complete success this year! We enjoyed delicious fish dishes, the wine was perfectly tempered with a refined flavor, and the service was outstanding, with a great sense of customer service. It was an all-around successful evening in a restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere.

If you order a pasta, be careful to ask for Parmesan, probably salt and pepper as well (be careful). One spoon of Parmesan is 2.5 euros, charged at their discretion, not indicated on the menu.

Since 2020, the four of us have spent several days on Heligoland every year, sometimes eating out at Atlantis several times. This year we went there twice, and unfortunately, it was a disappointment. The salad as a main course, for €17.90, was so small that I then went to the Turkish restaurant in the Unterland to fill up. At the Mocca Stuben, the side salad was much more generous for €6.90. The criticism wasn't taken seriously: house portion... the manager... etc. The price-performance ratio is no longer right.

I truly wish there were an option to give zero stars, alas, the system is far too generous. I have dined in many places, across many countries, and I cannot recall ever being treated with such a remarkable combination of unprofessionalism and aggression. It was, without exaggeration, possibly the worst service experience of my life. From the moment we arrived, the waiter was openly hostile—not just to us, but seemingly to every guest within his unfortunate reach. I’ll refrain from drawing conclusions and simply recount the facts, as they are more than sufficient to discourage anyone from eating here. We were told that choosing to sit outside would result in slower service. When we then attempted to order the local specialty—crab, which is prominently featured on the menu—we were informed that it needed to be ordered in advance. No exceptions. Apparently, having it listed on the menu without any mention of this requirement is part of the charm. Before we could finish processing that, we were informed we had five minutes to order or we would not be served at all. The kitchen, we were told, needed time to "prepare for the next shift." Again, this was at 18:00—hardly what one would consider a late or unreasonable dining hour. With no other option, we hastily ordered uninspiring substitutes. At this point, we were already irritated by the inflexible policies and the unnecessarily rude communication. And then came the final touch. A sixth person arrived at pur table—mere minutes after this self-imposed deadline—and the waiter flatly refused to serve him anything. One of us then asked whether the waiter understood the concept of “flexibility.” The response was truly astonishing: “If you want to offend me, finish your food and leave.” And that, frankly, said everything. I’ve already spent more time writing this review than the experience deserves, but I hope it spares someone else time, money, and patience. Honestly, going hungry would have been a more pleasant alternative to being "served" by this establishment.

On our day trip, after extensive on-site comparison, we decided on this restaurant. A very friendly welcome and attentive service made our stay unforgettable. My pan-fried fish with fried potatoes and delicious mustard sauce, and a schnitzel with fried potatoes and salad for my better half, were amazing. Everything was freshly prepared. The two of us spent the weekend on Heligoland, relatively spontaneously. We reserved a table and lobster by phone on Thursday and received a very friendly welcome the following Saturday. The service and food were excellent; we would definitely return.

A great restaurant where you can sit comfortably and eat delicious food with very good service. We spontaneously got a place without making a reservation and the decision to come here was the right one. The service was very friendly. She is always there but without being intrusive and always has a smile on her face. The food is not cheap, but the portions are very large, almost too large. It tasted wonderful. Payment by credit card including tips is possible here without any problems. When we are back on Heligoland, we will definitely come back here. Thumbs up for Atlantis. Unfortunately, the guest room is not accessible to wheelchair users.

After several restaurant visits on Heligoland, this was unfortunately by far the worst. Some of the food was badly burnt and, according to the invoice, replacing boiled potatoes with croquettes suddenly cost the normal price of an additional order. A prior notice should of course be given. Even though the croquettes were homemade, they didn't taste good. Price-performance is not right at all. In any case, once and never again. The service was nice and friendly!

Trotz freier Tische wurde mir keiner angeboten sonder darauf verwiesen, das die Chefin allein in der Küche sei, es aktuell sehr viel Streß gäbe usw. Nach dieser Frechheit wurde ich quasi gebeten das Restaurant zu verlassen. Diese Bewertung habe ich schon mal im Juli verfasst, zog sie zurück, weil ich dachte mit der Chefin dies nicht auf social media zu regeln, doch da auch die im Impressum der Website angegeben Email-Adresse nicht stimmt oder voll ist, bin ich wieder hier. Hello, I wanted to eat alone in this restaurant, but unfortunately I wasn't allowed to. Despite there being free tables, I wasn't offered any tables and was told that the boss was alone in the kitchen, that there was a lot of stress at the moment, etc. After this cheek, I was basically asked to leave the restaurant. I already wrote this review in July, but withdrew it because I thought I couldn't settle this with the boss on social media, but since the email address given in the website's imprint is also incorrect or full, I'm back here . Small, cozy restaurant, so you should definitely reserve a table in advance. The food is cooked personally by the boss and is highly recommended. We had the fish grill plate and the Helgoland Knieper, both of which were incredibly tasty. The starter soups were also great. There was a great introduction for the kneepers, so that even us beginners got along really well. The service was super friendly, attentive and also told us something about Knieper and Helgoland. An absolute recommendation for this restaurant. We would love to come back!

We ate for 250 euros. At the end there was an inappropriate comment about tipping, it seems to have been too little, that was the last time.

Unfortunately the food here was subpar. The waitress tried hard to justify the bad food. The boss is alone in the kitchen and only has an untrained assistant at her side. Unfortunately, the boss/cook herself wasn't quite up to speed either. Recommendation: close the restaurant and get along first. Please don't eat there at the moment, you'll probably be very disappointed.

Nach langer Zeit, waren wir mal wieder hier. Das Restaurant ist beliebt und fast immer voll, daher hatten wir reserviert. Wir bekamen einen gemütlichen Platz, in einer ruhigen Ecke. Der Kellner war sehr nett und freundlich. Unser Essen schmeckte gut und war von guter Qualität. Alles war Hausgemacht. Das Essen, ist seinen höheren Preis wert.

We sat outside with our 2 small children. A short time later we were told that they had no more capacity available and that they could not accept any new orders. Our 3 year old was visibly disappointed. That same evening I called and wanted to reserve a table and asked for 2 children's chairs. This clearly overwhelmed the gentleman on the phone. They only have one high chair and they don't have a single table free with 2 small children all week. I then said that a children's chair would also work, but the gentleman was overwhelmed here too and didn't want to reserve a table for us. Families with small children are definitely not welcome here. It's probably logical that families go on vacation here on Helgoland and then there should be high chairs and changing facilities available in the restaurants. After all, tourism is the main source of income. Service and food cannot therefore be rated. Very disappointing!

We spent 10 days on Heligoland. Since we had already tried a lot of gastronomy last year and Atlantis was the best choice for us, we booked our appointments online from home and got them confirmed after a short time. Tuesdays are a day of rest there. Our time slot was 5pm to 7pm The 2nd occupancy is from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. We can only express our praise. A small but fine restaurant. Very friendly service. Special requests are no problem. Everything is freshly prepared in the kitchen. Even after several days it didn't become monotonous. Take a look at the map, listing everything here would be going too far. We will definitely book in advance on our next visit to Helgoland. Thank you again for the lovely hours.

Definitely try it out when you're on Helgoland. We had a grilled plate of fish and a large schnitzel. Both were very tasty. A nice waiter who willingly answered our questions about the lobsters in the basin. We learned something. However, it is absolutely necessary to reserve a table in good time! We will definitely be here again the next time we visit Heligoland.

We can only recommend the restaurant, all dishes are freshly and lovingly prepared, the Helgoland fish stew is particularly recommended. The bosses and the waiters are very friendly and accommodating. Changes to supplements are no problem. We are always happy to come to you.

Two years ago we were thrilled. This time we ordered a menu three weeks before vacation. But this was “assigned differently”. The only answer we got was unfriendly and annoyed: “You can’t change it, that’s the way it is now.” Customer friendliness grade 6! Although we saved a lot of money, the evening was ruined! Therefore no recommendation! You can't change it, that's how it is now!! Based on the nature of this answer, you can perhaps imagine the telephone conversation. This lobster was ordered three weeks ago. Recessions serve to share experiences. But don't worry about us anymore. Just make it better again. All the best and firmer nerves.

Really very good food! The best were the homemade croquettes and the vanilla sauce with the ice cream. There's also something different than the standard meal and after a week of restaurant eating it's a nice change!

It is easier to get an audience with the Pope. A pity. When you walk past the place in the evening, you're surprised at all the empty tables that are supposed to be reserved. Strange business practices. No tables are given to individuals, as that doesn't bring in enough revenue. This is something to remember for the future.

We had our Christmas eve dinner in this sympathetic eatery in the upper town of Helgoland. Portions are copious and service is perfect including some good humour. There are a few vegetarian options and the wine served by the glass is of good quality. Unfortunately they were completely booked for our next couple of days on the island so we have to find another place for our next meals. Not an easy task since most restaurants are closed at this time of the year. Highly recommended!

Tolles Essen und super nettes Personal!! Wir kommen auf jedenfall wieder !

Wir kommen seid vielen Jahren immer wieder ins Atlantis, dieses Jahr waren wir sehr enttäuscht. Es gibt neues Servicepersonal, sehr aufgesetzt, nicht kritikfähig geht auf Mängel nicht ein wird teilweise patzig im Ton, sowas geht im Service garnicht. Das Essen war geschmacklich gut, teilweise waren Speisen aber kalt. Suppen oder auch Soßen machten im Verlauf der Woche den Eindruck als würden sie verdünnt werden. Wo man am Dienstag eine Cremige Suppe hatte war es am Freitag von der cremigkeit leider nichts mehr übrig. Der Keller geht nicht wirklich auf Beschwerden ein, ist sehr aufgesetzt und wiegelt Kritik ab, das es Schuld der Chefin ist die nichts ändern möchte usw...

Sehr sehr leckeres Essen. Selbest gemachte kroketten einfach sein Geld wert. Bedienung war richtig freundlich würde ich jedem empfehlen

Reservierung klappte hervorragend, sehr freundliche Bedienung, Das bestellte Essen, Jägerschnitzel mit Pommes war gut, keine Meisterleistung aber auch keine Grund zur Kritik. Schnitzel war aus der Pfanne , Pommes attraktiv in einem Korb serviert.Die Rahmsoße war nicht sehr geschmackvoll und wären die Pilze frisch gewesen, wäre die Benotung auch besser ausgefallen. Der Service war erste Klasse, Preis Leistung noch gut. Zu Empfehlen ohne Einschränkung, Geschmack ist nun mal unterschiedlich.

Wow! Wir waren schwer begeistert von dem Essen und dem Service. Sehr sympathisch! Ich hatte den Atlantis Fischteller und meine Begleitung den Dorsch mit einer Honig Senf Kruste. Beide Gerüchten waren unglaublich lecker und in Vergleich zu den Festlandspreisen relativ günstig. Wenn ich nochmal auf Helgoland lande dann werde ich hier auf jeden Fall nochmal essen. Ich empfehle min. einen Tag vorher anzurufen und einen Tisch zu reservieren, da es dort sehr schnell ausgebucht ist.

Absolute Empfehlung für Helgoland, hier findet man eins der besten Restaurants auf der Insel. Die Chefin kocht selbst, Tischreservierung ist zu empfehlen. Zusätzlich begegnet man hier Eike, dem wahrscheinlich besten, höflichsten und freundlichsten Kellner im Norden. Vielen Dank für ein schönes Erlebnis.
