Unfortunately, the waiter was extremely unfriendly, and he cheated me on the bill. Strangely, he wrote "two pretzels" on the bill, and when I checked it, he became aggressive, saying he couldn't cancel it since I hadn't received anything. It would probably be better to walk 20 meters further to the Spatenhaus... but I've never experienced anything like this. It looks like the waiter is trying to rip off tourists, and he doesn't even speak proper German. But he's welcome to try and cheat, I guess. The food was lukewarm, reheated.

My mother ordered a Franziskaner hell but got a dunkel instead, so she immediately asked the waiter if she ordered a hell, but they refused to exchange it for a hell. (09 Nov 2025 17:20 Uhr, seated on the left side just after entering the main entrance) BAD SERVICE 👎👎👎

A decent Bavarian restaurant in central Munich. The only thing I didn't like was the rude Turkish waiter.

When you are in Munich, local beer and hearty food are a must and this place has it all. It’s close to the city center, easy to reach, and got classic Munich charm. A good place to spend some good time.

For Taiwanese palates, pork knuckles are too salty! But since we're here, let's make the best of it! Enjoy the German flavors and savor everything!

Autumnal Delights in the Heart of the City Admittedly, we're Bavarian country bumpkins and usually avoid centrally located restaurants in the state capital, which are generally overrun with tourists and therefore offer, at best, average quality at exorbitant prices—if anything at all. Today, however, after a tiring doctor's appointment, we were craving hearty Bavarian fare and opted for the Franziskaner. Although it was busy and we hadn't made a reservation, a very friendly waiter quickly found us a free table. After a glass of Prosecco to celebrate the successful outcome of the doctor's visit, the roast goose breast caught our eye on the attractive, autumnal menu, and we ordered it—complete with red cabbage, potato dumplings, chestnuts, and a very flavorful gravy. The portion was extremely generous, the taste excellent, and the accompanying Kellerbier rounded off the autumnal delight. We would have loved to try the incredibly delicious-looking Kaiserschmarrn, but we were completely full. The waiters were extremely friendly and attentive – especially considering the large number of guests, which they had to manage. Hats off to them, a Munich pub with atmosphere that one can and will visit again anytime. And the price was perfectly reasonable – you can find significantly higher prices in the Munich suburbs...

Very expensive. Half a beer costs over 6 euros. Meat soup is almost 10 euros. A small pretzel is 2.50 euros...etc. I find that outrageous. I won't be going there again.

Unfortunately, there's no Google listing for the Schützenzelt, so I feel compelled to post my review here. The waitress with the neon-red hair at Oktoberfest has repeatedly caught my attention, as have friends and I. Comments and remarks were made that were completely inappropriate in the restaurant industry and in general interpersonal relationships. EDIT: The problem wasn't the behavior of other guests, but rather the behavior of the employees towards us and other guests.

There were three of us at the Franziskaner restaurant, and we immediately felt welcome despite it being very busy. The gentleman at reception went out of his way to find us a table, which was accomplished within a few minutes. The food was delicious and plentiful. We would especially like to mention the attentive and friendly service provided by Mr. Maß. He was quick, very courteous, yet relaxed and personable. Thank you for a lovely evening!

I'm just saying, Munich-style pork schnitzel. Paper-thin and absolutely delicious. A true delight. And a non-alcoholic Löwenbräu to go with it. 😀

Extremely extremely rude people. I went to ask for a table of 2 (being very willing to wait as much as was required) - they redirect me to one which had reserved sign on it, and when I went to them to tell them it was reserved, an older waiter (grey to white hair) said to the other waiter “This woman is not very smart”, in German. His mistake was that even if I asked in English, I could still understand German. I asked him about it and he started to laugh, and make signs to make me go away, to my table. We left immediately. Cannot imagine how people can be like that when the only thing I wanted to do was to make sure I do not stay at the table of someone who made a reservation.

Friendly staff, good food, drinks, everything was perfect, every now and then

The two of us had dinner here this afternoon. After being ignored for 20 minutes, we ordered the menu ourselves. Eventually a blond waiter came and took our drinks, which we received after 15 minutes. The food also took a long time, and the tables opposite us were almost finished with their food even though they arrived much later. To finish off, we ordered eggs, an espresso, and an afogato. The espresso came quickly, but the afogato only arrived 15 minutes later because it came from the kitchen. Sorry, bad service for your restaurant. We have been to Spatenhaus several times, everything was perfect with you, we will steer clear of your place in the future, even though we are from Munich and have to spend our money elsewhere.

We had to wait 20 minutes for a menu, and it only came after we intervened. Even then, I was ignored by the service staff; it was only the management who noticed my attempts. Perhaps they would have given a warning, which would explain the server's bad mood, but it wouldn't justify taking it out on the guests... Overall, the service staff seemed disoriented and unorganized, which was also evident at the neighboring tables. The two large international groups were served promptly and friendly, which could perhaps describe the restaurant's focus. The food arrived reasonably quickly and was delicious, hence the second star.

Food and service was alright, a decent restaurant in the old town. But there was one thing that left me puzzled. In the menu it states service charge is included in the price. When I was paying the bill, the waiter added 10% in the tips while telling me it is service charge. I don't mind giving tips for his good service throughout the meal but I hope he could be more honest about the tips. Anyway it is still a decent experience

Food was perfect, staff very friendly.

If it weren't for the extremely friendly waitress Renate, the visit would have been an absolute disaster. She did a fantastic job. We had a roast ox, which tasted good, but there was far too little on the plate for the price. The Kaiserschmarren (smothered pancake) was baked in a pan; it was completely sticky inside and not even remotely fluffy, with a hint of nothing in terms of flavor. We wouldn't have complained, but they asked and, of course, politely explained our taste and what we didn't like. They waived the bottle of water. Extremely embarrassing; it's better not to write anything good for the guest! No recommendation, just mass sales! A real shame. It's also a shame that you listed an email address under my post where I'm supposed to contact you, but it doesn't work!

Best German food in Mainz — hands down! We stopped in at Zum Franziskaner and were blown away from start to finish. The schnitzel was absolutely perfect — golden, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and full of rich flavor. Easily the best I’ve ever had! The beer selection was top-notch, with great local options that paired perfectly with the meal. The service was outstanding — friendly, attentive, and genuinely warm. Even though the restaurant was busy, everything ran smoothly, and we never felt rushed. The staff clearly takes pride in what they do, and it shows. The atmosphere was classic and cozy — the kind of place where you can settle in, relax, and truly enjoy yourself. You feel like you’re getting a taste of authentic German hospitality with every bite and every sip. If you’re in Mainz and craving traditional German food, this is the place. Love at first sight! The Franziskaner was our first stop when we moved to Munich – and it's remained our favorite. And that's because: The location is unbeatable – whether shopping, strolling in the Hofgarten, or sightseeing in the city – sitting inside or on the large terrace in the summer is wonderful. Everyone here is incredibly friendly, that's what you notice right away (even though the place is always buzzing), every corner of the restaurant is cozy, and the food is super delicious and always varied with seasonal dishes, which is why celebrities like to party here. And the liver dumpling soup is the best in town! The service is, as mentioned above, very warm and attentive. Even if you haven't been there for a while, you're immediately recognized (right, Carolin) – even our dog by name 😁.

The waiter charged three beers (3x Helles 0.5) instead of one and didn’t let us take the bill.

Thomson is a place with delicious german food and beer. Nice place, nice stuff.

We went there for dinner last night with a larger group. It was disappointing. The soup was okay, the meat—pork and veal knuckles—was dry and tough, the bread dumplings were also dry, and the potato dumplings were mushy. The sauce lacked flavor; it was almost unseasoned. The dessert, including Kaiserschmarrn, was gray, and the Bavarian cream was lumpy. A shame. We were really looking forward to the evening.

The half chicken and duck were both good. The pretzel and mustard however were the highlight. The pretzel is super cheap and amazing with the mustard.

Saw this recommended on-line so thought worth a visit and was not disappointed. Delicious Bavarian sausage platter twinned with a Maß of nice cold Löwenbrau beer. Nice place, good atmosphere. Quieter than other places making this good for conversations with your group.

One of my favorites! Food is top rate

Update: A permanently wedged-open entrance door isn't a compromise for me, but an annoyance. The draft makes the food cold even faster, and as a guest, I get back and neck pain. Pros: Very central, right next to the tram stop. Neutral: Only average taste (for example: Leberkäse, white sausages, pretzels, potato salad, watery sweet mustard). Negative: Even in cool temperatures, the doors are permanently open, so you have to sit inside with your jacket on (the manager says it has to be that way because the waiters have to come and go).

Yesterday, I was at the Franziskaner with guests from Berlin, one of my favorite places for Bavarian cuisine in Munich! It was once again delicious – especially the Leberkäse (meatloaf)! Anton's friendly service was equally outstanding. He really impressed the two Berliners!

We always come here when we're in Munich. It's our go-to place for lunch. The service is the best in all of Munich. We've been going to our favorite waiter, Mr. Sengül, for years and we're more than satisfied. Kudos to him and the entire team. A perfect restaurant.

Excellent meatloaf and excellent food. In warmer weather, it's also cozy in the front garden. It's lovely to be able to enjoy the view of the Residenz and the opera while you enjoy it.

We were there with visitors from Italy, and everyone was thrilled. Our waiter, Marian, especially, made the evening even more special. He guided us through the evening with professionalism, skill, and charm. We'd be happy to return.

The food is okay, however the service is terrible! First we waited long to order, then we wanted to pay and waited eternity for the check! There were a lot of waiters in the outside area but it looked so chaotic! I will never sit here again. Thank you.

A complete disaster. No service. The guests almost always got up and left the place without drinks or food. When we got our coffee and beer after 22 minutes, we were told they were out of white sausages. So there we were, sitting with drinks but no food. All I can say is... go to another place, because there are sooooo many great ones in Munich.

We were with a group and they put us at a few tables with natural partitions. Made it easier to talk to each other. Had the beef and pork knuckle dish. Plus, the ply dessert with sorbet was so nice and light! Great traditional restaurant to try in this part of Bavaria.

A place with delicious beer and food in Munich's satellite city....

I came here because Gemini told me about this place and it's easy to go to even if you're alone. They have regular tables for a few people as well as small tables for two, so it's easy to go to even if you're alone! In fact, even a local old man was drinking there alone! They had a morning-only Weisswurst and beer set, which was 12.9€, more expensive than I'd seen online. I arrived just before 11:30, so I ordered it on a whim, but they were happy to oblige! The cheerful staff and the ladies sitting next to me carefully explained how to eat it, and the sausages were fluffy and delicious, especially the mustard! It was just the right amount of sweet and absolutely delicious!

Good Bavarian restaurant! They serve the famous Franziskaner wheat beer as well as the wholesome Löwenbräu. With approximately 600 seats, the restaurant is quite large, with various rooms and outdoor seating. The food is delicious and plentiful. The service is friendly and prompt. You can enjoy a pleasant stay here!

This is a place that I've been to twice because it's so delicious. When you eat white sausage, you must peel the skin before eating it! As for the pancake soup... If you want to try it when you come to Germany, try it... But I recommend it...ㅎㅎ The view is really pretty when you sit down and the pictures come out well. I dare say that this is the best in terms of sensibility, friendliness, and taste among the places I ate in Germany. If you want to eat, wait quietly at the wooden desk near the employees' side and the employees will come to you. While you wait, they will ask you if you want to go inside or sit outside! After following the instructions, order a drink first and enjoy it. When you order food, it's a good idea to order another drink then.

It's one of my favorite places in Munich. Unfortunately, I had an unpleasant experience this weekend. It was a busy weekend, and the wait for a table was quite long. We waited patiently, as is expected on these occasions. The manager told us to wait, and we were fine. Then a couple without reservations like us showed up... and magically, the first free table after half an hour was given to them. I'd say it wasn't very classy... the next evening we went elsewhere. Think about it.

We were in Munich with six people, and we ate and drank there. A great brewery, delicious beer, and good food. Plus, excellent service.

We were at the Franziskaner today. Unfortunately, the Leberkäse (meatloaf), a large portion ordered with two fried eggs and potato salad, wasn't even close to a highlight. Burnt and much too small. So, it was a child's portion. Even the Leberkäse sandwich for self-collection had more in it (and was considerably cheaper). The veal sausages weren't even average and cold. The staff were partly completely overwhelmed and partly underwhelmed, but they didn't pay us any attention. The waitress who served us was very friendly, but had to "clean up" the work of others and unfortunately forgot about us. The price-performance ratio was in no way justified. Expensive, little, and mass-produced. We then had to wait another 30 minutes before we could pay. Unfortunately, we didn't take any pictures.

We were very disappointed with the food. Even at the tourist hotspot, the Hofbräuhaus, you can get better quality. The Kaiserschmarren, in particular, was an insult and barely edible. It seemed homemade, but you can get better quality at any ski hut. Everything was dripping in sugar, and the Schmarren wasn't fluffy. It tasted more like popcorn than Kaiserschmarren. There was only a small bowl of apple sauce for three people. We asked for an extra one, which, of course, was charged extra. If you're paying for a portion for three people, you should be given enough apple sauce. Very disappointing, and we won't be back.

Unfortunately, I don't understand the good reviews. The food wasn't really as good as you'd expect in Munich. There are much better places here. The service is also awful. Things get forgotten, and waiters ignore you. Plus, it's way too expensive.

I tried about 6-8 schnitzels in Munich during a week – Franziskaner was definitely the worst in terms of food and service. The waiter persistently ignored us several times, even when standing right next to us. The schnitzel was way too small for €35, and the Kaiserschmarren was simply delivered in separate pieces – almonds, butter, and raisins melted in the bottom of the pan, and dry bread on top. Great for €25 👍🏼

Friendly and attentive service – the waiters were really on the ball. The food was good and overall harmonious. The atmosphere is rather average. There's a very large terrace area outside, and the interior is decorated in a typically Bavarian style – everything is spacious. Lots of tourists, which is hard to avoid in Munich.

The service was absolutely awful. It took an hour to take the order. Totally overpriced. Never again.

The franziscaner was delicious.

Syed Shah delivered the worst service I’ve ever seen on Friday September 6. First he dropped off a basket of three pretzels for us while we waited to get our order taken. I was surprised by how long we waited for him to come back because it wasn’t very busy when we were in there. Then he started being rude, both to us and to another table nearby. He brought my friend a different beer than he ordered and was totally unapologetic, telling my friend he should have just ordered this kind. He also took a pretzel out of our basket at this point, which was weird—just wrapped it in a napkin and walked off. I don’t know if he ate it or did something else with it. We ate one and left the last one in the basked. When it was time to close out, he tried to charge us for two pretzels. We thought these were free based on how he dropped them off, but it was extra annoying that he took one out of our basket and then tried to charge us for it. He argued with us for a minute before removing it from the bill. Based on how negative this experience was, I didn’t want to tip, but selected the 5% option because he insisted on holding the card reader while I completed the transaction and it made me feel weird. He pulled it back before I confirmed, changed it to 10% right in front of me, confirmed the payment, then scurried away. Our bill was cheap enough that it wasn’t worth sticking around and missing our train, but this behavior was absolutely egregious. I can only imagine how many times this horrible, dishonest man has scammed tourists or people who were over served.

The schnitzel is excellent. The meatloaf in a bun is too expensive.
