The chicken was very tasty, and the prices were fair. I find it completely incomprehensible that Warsteiner is offered as a pilsner, because it's not drinkable.

The chicken was excellent, and the service was very friendly and attentive. The price was perfectly reasonable. Unfortunately, the tables in the beer garden were a bit dirty.

If you like half a chicken, this is the place for you! A variety of options are available. The side dishes are delicious and the prices are reasonable. Very nice beer garden.

A nice meeting place. In summer, a rustic beer garden under the trees. Still quite affordable, but don't expect too much; it's no gourmet temple.

We've been going there for at least 15 years. It was always nice, but we've decided not to go anymore. It's getting more and more expensive, the plates are getting smaller, and the quality is getting worse!

I highly recommend all the chicken variations. It always tastes great there, and the staff are very friendly. We'll be back one of these days for a beer and chicken. Highly recommended.

I can recommend it to anyone who likes good food, unfortunately this place is not accessible for disabled people, as you have to go down a flight of stairs to get to the toilets

The Wolperding at Zeche Bonifacius has been known for decades beyond the borders of Essen-Kray for its half chickens in the beer garden. Uniquely delicious! The service is prompt and friendly. The appetizers and main courses are a bit too prompt, hence -1*. The beer tent furniture is simply not suitable for carrying drinks, appetizers, five half chickens, and separate side dishes for five people. Drinks are self-service outside, but the service at the service point is exceptionally friendly and prompt. Overall, a great outing, even by bike or motorcycle.

Beautifully located, fantastic beer garden. It's pleasant under the trees in 30-degree heat. It was actually quite pleasant. It wasn't crowded, perhaps because of the timing—it was early Sunday afternoon. Nice people behind the bar. You can take drinks to go, and the food is brought to your table. The Italian salad was delicious, and the portions were generous. Everything was perfect. Nice and relaxed.

We went there for dinner yesterday. The atmosphere is great, the food is good, and the price/performance ratio is good. It was easy to have a good conversation until a certain point when a group of people came and occupied two tables with children and all (around 14 people), although only 6 had eaten, and the peace and quiet was over. Perhaps they should make sure that people can only stay there when eating and that no seats are taken up, because the children are put in the adjacent playground.

A very nice restaurant with delicious roast chicken options. The staff is very quick, friendly, and cheerful, and the food is delicious. We'll be back.

Top and great prices for a beer garden. Chicken bomb, hamburger delicious and filling, fries fresh and crunchy and the beer tastes great too. By the way, the elderberry spritzer is super delicious. There is a small playground for the kids.

Today we took a short bike ride to 'Wolperding' to eat some delicious chicken. Weather is awesome. You can sit here in the beer garden and enjoy the sun. Always a nice place to go for a short break by bike. ☺️👌🏻

It's just unbelievable how good the chicken is. That alone gives it a 5/5. The quality of the side dishes can be improved a bit. Unfortunately, the baguette, salads and fries are only of normal quality.

Wolperding The name says it all here, because mythical creatures work here live and in color. Nowhere else have we been able to enjoy such fantastic service. Marin is exactly that, in terms of service, you can't beat it!!! Nothing stands anywhere for longer than 30 seconds, no empty plate, no empty glass. No matter whether inside in the restaurant or outside in the huge beer garden. As he flies past, he always notices whether your drink is coming to an end, asks whether the food is satisfactory or whether you are missing something. Drink orders are implemented directly by Mick and the shaker hardly stands still. Super friendly and accommodating, he has the bar under control. The food is simple but really tasty & you can also take half a chicken to-go here. However, that would be a real shame, because the beautiful beer garden and the restaurant itself are simply great and Marin has to be experienced to be believed! We thank you for the two great evenings and would love to come back!!!!

Been back there for years. What can I say: bombastic The chicken perfect The fries are delicious, with a tasty mayo. The small mixed salad was nice and crunchy and fresh. The service. He loves his job, he loves his guests. Always finds the right word and enjoys serving (even if it's just the drinks at the beginning). It was a successful hour in which we felt extremely comfortable. I haven't been there for years. With a few former colleagues we remembered the Wolperding and met there. The chicken/chicken were, as back then, super tasty and at a fair price for this quality/quantity. An employee had a mishap and two full plates fell (shit happens), but the team reacted perfectly and in a customer-friendly manner. Apologies and a drink on the house. This is what gastronomy and good service should be like (from my subjective point of view). My only minimal deduction is for the ambience. Due to the design, the interior is very loud/noisy. Otherwise great!

The ambience, the food and especially the service are great! I would give this place 5 stars if it weren't for the disgusting smoking area. Directly in front of the only entrance is a tiny, closed(!) anteroom where smokers crowd like sardines in a can. Not only do you have to squeeze through it to get in and out, the smoke also blows in all the time through the broken door that doesn't close properly. We also had probably the worst table in the entire store, right by that door. It smelled like smoke the whole time and after visiting there my clothes and hair stink.

Chicken was even halal, extremely tasty, the smell alone was unbelievable. I really enjoyed it and would love to come back again and again. 10/10 everything great!!

I've been eating and drinking there for several years, no matter what time of year. It's always nice & the staff is very attentive, courteous & quick.. Just like in the Ruhr area ☺️. We had dinner here during the weekday evening. The umbrellas were opened especially for us because it might rain. That was nice. As usual, we ordered at the counter outside. Unfortunately, food arrived very fragmented and at least 20 minutes apart. Of course that wasn't great. My son had a children's menu with a drink. This was served to him in a plastic cup and he was even allowed to choose the color. So far so good. When he finished drinking, I noticed that the entire bottom of the cup was covered in black mold. I went to the empty counter (3 employees, no customer) and “complained”. The only response was "Oh, that's not good." I don't expect anything big for it. Maybe a new drink could have been offered. But there wasn't even a "sorry, I'm sorry." or similar. The playground is quite nice for children. However, no child stepped directly into feces. Should perhaps be checked before the store opens if you offer a sandpit for guests. The chicken was delicious, but the dried-out slice of carrot that was included as a decoration should be left out given the sight and price. Then it's better to do nothing at all. The chicken tastes really good and is also nice and juicy. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case for a while. The tables in the self-service area also have spots that are partly rotten. Overall, I was unfortunately not satisfied with my visit.

I was curious about the location and went there to eat! I ordered the chicken special and am very disappointed with it. Afterwards I had severe stomach pain and problems. Unfortunately it was the last time for me.

Here you sit under old trees. The atmosphere is relaxed and warm. Drinks and food are ordered at a central point and payment is made straight away. Food is then brought to the table. But there is also a service area. The chicken here is a delight. When the weather is nice it gets really crowded. Sometimes loud too. Coffee wonderful. I enjoy being here alone, with friends and family.

Unfortunately, unfortunately, unfortunately it's no longer the way it used to be. We have been traveling from Essen city center for many years, but are no longer satisfied. Delicious chicken. At peak times it takes a while for the food to arrive. One or two orders are sometimes forgotten. But the service makes up for it with its friendliness. I like to go to Wolperding often. It's worth it.

The chicken is simply unbeatable, I particularly like the herb/garlic version. There were also delicious fries and a coleslaw. The atmosphere is rustic. Very large beer garden! The service was super fast and very friendly, and the prices are absolutely fair. I'll definitely be back!

Little Hänchen dream about side dishes is debatable

Die Bedienung sehr freundlich. Das Hähnchen knusprig und gut gewürzt. Die Holzstühle sehr hart. Warum nur einen Stern? Ich habe eine Verletzung und kann keine Treppen und schon gar nicht diese Art Wendeltreppe gehen. Ich bin fassungslos, das man keine Behindertentoilette hat. Auch wie in manch anderen Restaurants keinen Fahrstuhl. Das fällt einem erst auf, wenn man ein Problem hat. Nun handelt es sich um ein altes Gebäude. Auch dort kann man handeln, aber die meisten sind nicht bereit, dafür Geld auszugeben und Tische dafür zu opfern. Wir haben uns darüber wirklich sehr aufgeregt. Das Ergebnis war, wir mussten vorzeitig fahren, weil ich dringend auf die Toilette musste. Wie traurig und enttäuschend für alle Menschen die eine Einschränkung haben. Auch wenn sie bei mir nur kurzfristig ist.

Okay, I went to the public viewing, so the 2-0 win against Hungary counts almost more than the rest. But regardless of that, friendly service, in the beer garden area you order yourself, pay, take the drink with you, and the food comes to the table. The food was delicious and plentiful (nachos), you sit under the trees in the sun, everything was great.

The quarter piece of dried radish as a decoration on the chicken plate doesn't have to be there. You ask yourself what's the point???

Great beer garden and friendly staff. Because it's located on a side street, you can sit comfortably and quietly in a small garden under the trees. The fried chicken is great - in all variations (although "extra hot" also means extra hot here).

Food was very good and plentiful, also a nice selection of drinks. Chicken in various variations, classic or as burgers, nuggets, etc. The service was on point and always very friendly. And last but not least, the environment in the old industrial hall of the former Bonifacius colliery is great in itself. Unfortunately, the most difficult thing is actually getting a place. On the third attempt it worked on a weekday evening.

Wir waren aufgrund vieler Empfehlungen zum ersten mal da. Die Location an sich sieht gut aus. Aufgrund der Jahreszeit haben wir drinnen gesessen und gegessen. Es ist drinnen sehr eng, die Sitzmöglichkeiten sind unbequem und es ist sehr laut, sodass man sich nicht gut unterhalten konnte (Bahnhofsatmosphäre). Das Essen war okay, aber sehr übersichtlich. Das halbe Hähnchen war klein und hatte nicht so viel Fleisch dran. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit.
