We had a very nice visit. We were out for a walk and made a spontaneous reservation. Everyone had burgers with fries. A bit light on mayo for so many fries. The prices aren't exactly cheap, but it was delicious.

Today was our first time here, and we've never eaten ostrich before. I've been wanting to try it for a long time. Thank you for the really nice and friendly welcome and for reserving a table for my wife and me. I'm not really a fan of fries or burgers, but the ostrich burger and sweet potato fries were really delicious! The mashed potatoes and ostrich strips are also highly recommended. Oh, and you don't always have to have something sweet afterward 😀 - the ostrich salami and liverwurst are also a must-try. You wouldn't believe you're still in Essen; just minutes before, you were in the middle of city traffic – and then, whoosh, it's a completely different world. Thank you so much for the truly wonderful time!

There were six of us there. We called 30 minutes in advance from Swing Golf and got the last table; a reservation is definitely recommended! The food selection is limited, but everything was delicious! The portions were also generous, which makes the high prices a little more bearable. Overall, I highly recommend a visit!

We were driving for few days from Sweden with our van 🚐 and stopped nearby to meet a friend, after a long day of driving we came across with this place on maps and decided to have a look. It was the best thing of our trip! The place is so peaceful and beautiful, feels very cozy and a warm atmosphere. The service was perfect and the food delicious! The whole time we spent here we couldn’t stop talking about how good the place made us feel.

Very nice restaurant in a great location. The best way to arrive is via Meisenburger Straße. Super friendly staff, everything was explained to us and our special requests were also responded to in a friendly manner. The food was very tasty. We were there with four adults and we really enjoyed the dishes. We will definitely come back here.

A real gem at the Rutherhof! The Farm is an all-round great restaurant - from the incredibly delicious food to the beautiful ambience. The furnishings are designed with great attention to detail and create a cozy, relaxed atmosphere. It's just fantastic here, especially on sunny days! The food was excellent, everything was fresh and tasted really good. The service was super friendly and attentive, you just feel welcome and in good hands. A place where you like to stay and definitely come back. Absolute recommendation!

Great selection on the menu, everything from cakes to main courses. Service is good, some of the dishes are based on ostrich... e.g. ostrich currywurst or burgers. But also 'normal' dishes. In the restaurant you can also buy products such as ostrich eggnog. Food was tasty, portion was sufficient. Afri Kola range. You can sit outside on the terrace, in the restaurant or in the winter garden. Everything modern, cozy and nicely decorated and clean. Parking right in front of the door. It's just a bit out of the way... We'd love to come back

This place had us raving to our friends. We only came here on a whim on a long road trip across the country, because "ostrich" is normally not a word you see all that often. And what a good pick it was. The place was immediately cozy, yet modern, with exemplary service - friendly, and fast. The homemade lemonade was a real treat, but the starters blew us away. Both the pumpkin soup (check seasonal offers!) and the ostrich salami & liverwurst platter were incredible. The expectations were high, but the mains left nothing to desire. Succulent steak grilled to perfection, a juicy burger with a to-die-for chipotle mayo, and ostrich stew with South-African funk that all hit the spot in different ways. We did try the ostrich currywurst as a joke, and while it absolutely was a great dish, it didn't hold a candle to the other mains. We recommend leaving those "street food" items for later visits, after you had their absolutely inspired and gorgeous presented mains. Our only regret is, that we are now hundreds of kilometres away. There has been debate about coming back, after looking through our photos of this place again. PS: There's an somewhat rustic/impromptu outdoor golf range where you can drive some balls across the fields, if you are looking for a fun activity, too. Don't expect meticulously cut perfect greens, the vibe is much more casual.

There were three of us here and we couldn't stop raving about it. Absolutely everything was great! Carpaccio Salad with ostrich fillet strips Bratwurst with Pü Beef burger with Pü instead of sweet potato fries. Great! I think the three of us confused the nice gentleman (are you the boss?) a bit🫣 Please forgive me for that. I ordered mashed potatoes instead of sweet potato fries with the burger. Accidentally there were sweet potato fries for the bratwurst and the burger. We were left with the fries and in addition there was a portion of fresh mashed potatoes. This tasted simply divine! We were here for the second time and it was great again. Delicious food (ostrich steak with sweet potato fries today), friendly personal service and a nice ambience surrounded by beautiful nature. Unfortunately, the ostriches no longer live in Essen (it probably used to be the case that there was an ostrich farm right there), but it's still all about the ostrich. There are activities outside such as swing golf and themed events even in the winter.

The restaurant is quietly located in the middle of nature. Friendly staff and super tasty tarte flambée with chopped ostrich.

We had to wait 2 hours for our food. That was then brought. Wrong and to the next table. The obviously overwhelmed waiter then wanted to give us the eaten plates. We sat in front of empty glasses. The partially correct food that was then delivered was cold. There were insects on the wall behind us. Conclusion: Worst restaurant visit in a really long time. For example, it is overpriced. the burger with a cold over-fried patty as well. It's a shame about the money and the time.

Update June 30, 2024: This time our ostrich steaks were unfortunately not as tender as last year. It looked good. I guess it wasn't the cook, but the bouquet, because the color of the steak was perfect. We'll still come back and hope it will be better next time. Everything else was fine. Therefore 5 stars! We were thrilled with our ostrich steak with fries and salad for 27.50 euros. We have eaten a lot of alpaca steaks in Peru and also some kudu steaks and beef steaks in South Africa. But this ostrich steak was absolutely amazing. Super tender! The best steak we've eaten so far! We will be back!

The service is really nice. There is often service that is nice but not really nice. The view and the ambience are really great. There were 5 of us and we tried different things. The ostrich burger is fabulous. Also the fries currywurst. The curry sauce is definitely homemade. It tastes different than anywhere else. Not as much sugar and somehow fruitier. more sophisticated. Very good. Ostrich steaks great. Unfortunately one was a bit too bloody. We also really enjoyed the salads. The vegan burger is also really great. The desserts were a little less excellent but still good. All in all an excellent experience and beyond any doubt. We would like to come again.

Wir waren am Samstag zu viert dort Essen und waren sehr enttäuscht. Das Ambiente, man hatte das Gefühl, man saß in einer Lauben Kolonie, nichts Gemütliches und recht Kalt war es dort. Ich hatte einen Strauß Burger, sehr trocken und die Pommes total hell. Die Bedienung, na ja.

Straußenburger sind eine super Alternative zu Rind. Wir wollten schon lange mal hier essen und mit der Kulinaris Card war die Gelegenheit günstig. Alles kein Problem. Unsere Freunde hatten Straußensteak und waren auch sehr zufrieden. Wir wurden freundlich bedient und konnten draussen sitzen, obwohl wir für drinnen reserviert hatten.

Rustikal draußen, gemütlich innen. Ziemlich auf der grünen Wiese gelegen mit herrlichem Umfeld. Der kleine Shop mit Strauß-Produkten lenkt den Gast zum Tresen und stimmt auf einen schönen Aufenthalt ein. Wir haben Vorspeisen und die Hauptspeisen sehr genossen. Ein freundlicher Service rundete unseren Besuch ab. Mein Steak war leider sehr zäh. Geschmack und Beilagen waren super, nur leider die Konsistenz vom Fleisch ... Ohne Umschweife bekam ich ein neues Gericht. Fleisch, Beilagen ... sehr lecker. Die Preise sind absolut angemessen. Wir kommen gerne wieder beim nächsten Urlaub in Essen.

Ein echt schönes Restaurant! Sehr gemütlich eingerichtet, man fühlt sich direkt wohl. Als Nicht-Fleischesserin war ich über die vegane Burger-Variante sehr froh ;D die schmeckte klasse! Geheimtipp: der Physalis-Tee - habe ich noch nie zuvor probiert, aber lohnt sich ;)

Zum Essen kann ich leider nichts sagen. Jedoch macht das lokal seinen Namen keine ehre, da nicht ein Strauß zu sehen wahr, Golfbälle jedoch schon, die sind uns wie Gewehrfeuer um die Ohren geknallt worden. Bitte das nächste Mal ausschildern, dass sämtliche Straußenvögel nicht mehr vor Ort sind, erleichtert uns Familien zu fuße knautschende Kinder und Unmut.

Das Ambiente, der Service und das Essen sind bombastisch! Wir sind durch Zufall auf dieses tolle Restaurant gestoßen und werden definitiv wiederkommen!

Das Essen war sehr lecker und der Service nett. Man dort auch gut sitzen. Es gibt sehr viele Straußenprodukte im Geschäft die allerdings alle ziemlich teuer sind. Der einzige wirkliche Kritikpunkt war die Wartezeit aufs Essen das war recht lang. Dafür kam dann auch alles gleichzeitig. Ich fand die Sauce des Geschnetzeltem super.

Wir saßen draußen auf der Terrasse,bei schönem Wetter. War super. Essen toll und Aussicht auch. Parkplätze reichlich vorhanden, kostenlos. Absolut gut. Wir kommen wieder.

Toller Laden und das Essen war sehr lecker, mal was anderes😁.

Obwohl es vor Ort keine Strauße mehr gibt, ist es eine nette und gute Möglichkeit Straußenfleisch zu probieren. Wir waren als Gruppe vor Ort und hatten als Vorspeise das Straußen-Carpaccio und als Hauptspeise das Straußen-Steak bzw. den -Burger. Alles war sehr lecker und das Fleisch schmeckte ähnlich wie Rindfleisch, hatte jedoch einen intensiveren Geschmack. Das Ambiente ist etwas einfacher gehalten, passt aber zu einer Farm. Bei gutem Wetter kann man auch draußen sitzen und wir hatten unseren Platz im Wintergarten. Für Personen die keine Treppen mehr steigen können, gibt es nur draußen wenige Tische die Ebenerdig sind. Generell eine Alternative als Fleisch-Liebhaber etwas anderes zu probieren. Die Preise der Speisen orientieren sich eher an Rindfleisch, wobei auch Rindfleisch angeboten wird.

Place nice top be. Aber bei der Anfahrt nicht die erste Route des Navi nehmen sondern immer, auf jeden Fall immer eine alternative Route kurz vor dem Ziel abrufen. Glaubt mir, ihr werdet mir dankbar sein.

Sehr schöne Restaurant- Atmosphäre, mit leckerem Straußensteak. Auch die Farmplatte ist sehr zu empfehlen. Das Restaurant bietet einige Tische, alles mit viel Holz dekoriert. Es gibt ein Außen- und ein Innenbereich, Reservierungen problemlos möglich. Im Eingangsbereich befindet sich ein kleiner Shop mit diversen Produkten vom Strauß. Der Service war gut, das Essen sehr lecker und auch der Kaffee am Schluss durchaus gut. Wir werden wieder kommen.
