The Wirtshaus zum alten Zöllner is a beautifully newly built restaurant with a really inviting atmosphere. We were greeted warmly and the quality of the food was also convincing - I would have liked to give this five stars. Unfortunately, there were some avoidable deficiencies in the process during our visit: One dish was completely mixed up, and requests for changes to another (no lettuce, no onions and cucumbers on our junior's burger) were not taken into account. When we complained, we only got the answer that “the kitchen had thought of something about it” - unhelpful and unfortunately not customer-oriented. As a small apology, we were offered an espresso - but in the end we simply forgot it. Conclusion: If you don't have any special requests or don't have a problem with getting a different dish, you can definitely eat well here. There would be full marks for quality and friendliness - unfortunately zero stars for how complaints are handled. So overall I get a solid three out of five stars.

Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. But the food (cheese spaetzle and lentil dish) was rather sobering, especially for the price charged.

I liked it a lot and my food was okay too, especially the fish and the dessert were super tasty. However, this wasn't necessarily the case with my colleagues. For one meal there were beans as a side dish instead of asparagus and for some the fries were too hard or the meat wasn't completely cooked through. But the staff was nice and the drinks were great too

Food and ambience top! The service for drinks (replenishment within a reasonable time frame and then getting the drink you ordered) can definitely still be improved!

Went there spontaneously for dinner last night. It's rare to find such nice and attentive staff anymore. The food was also very good, I would like to highlight the Pinsa Parma. So delicious 😋 We'll be back 👍🫶

The employees were very friendly and attentive, they often came by and asked if everything was okay, the women at the table were always the first to receive the menus, drinks and food. Very large and nice restaurant, plenty of parking spaces available. The price is of course high due to the economic situation, but justifiable. Food was very tasty, we would come again.

We were looking for a good home-style restaurant and noticed the positive reviews. The welcome was warm and our service employee always had a smile on his face and made a casual comment about the starter salad, which I was very amused by. The Cordon Blue was super tasty, maybe a little too much diced ham, but super tender. The fries were crispy and delicious. The salad beforehand also had a very good dressing and a varied selection. We can recommend it and would be happy to come back if we are in Freiburg again.

For €20.90 you get the pork schnitzel with fries. In other Freiburg taverns you get significantly more for your money. Poor quality too. Tough and best of all: not through!

Beautiful ambience - decoration - lighting - very cozy and relaxing. Staff very friendly and understanding. No waiting time. Dishes presented very professionally and really tastefully, the eye can really enjoy it. As far as the dishes are concerned, very disappointing: Pork loin meat was really tough - Black Forest Rösti dish with meat was also really tough - Vegetables had a bland taste, similar to those from the freezer - Potatoes tasted like those from the day before and had been reheated - The seasoning was inappropriate. The waitress, very friendly, said the meat had been thoroughly prepared, but they would prepare something new for me. Well, if the chef thinks it's right, I'll be served the same thing for the second time. Really a shame and disappointing for the fairly high price: 3 dishes with 3 drinks for just under €90.

Nice restaurant, difficult to park, nice staff, but unfortunately we always had to call if we wanted to order something. The food wasn't particularly special either, César Salad tasted bad and unfortunately it looked that way too. My noodles were ok, but unfortunately not particularly great.

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the service was really friendly - definitely plus points for that. Unfortunately I was very disappointed with the food. I ordered the veal fillet and had high expectations. For the price I would have expected a special and, above all, appropriate portion. Instead, there was a maximum of 100g of meat, two small broccoli florets, a few mushrooms and about eight tiny potatoes. The taste was okay, but the portion was simply unacceptable. Unfortunately for me the price-performance ratio is not at all good and therefore I will not visit the restaurant again.

Came to this restaurant quite late on a Friday (9pm) and they were still happy to serve us. Service was quick and friendly. The food came fast but was either too salty or bland. We ordered a salad and soup as starter and pasta & schnitzel for mains. All were of okay-ish quality. Would have expected a bit more based on the reviews and nice interior.

Excited on the first visit, disappointed on almost the second visit, as it was a "closed society" without this was announced on the website. Annoyed on the 3rd unsuccessful visit. They accepted our reservation for 12 p.m. on Saturday, then we found ourselves in front of the closed door again, as it doesn't open until 5:30 p.m. today. That's not how you make friends or regulars.

Disappointment for vegans, larger groups and people who like to drink their wine with their meal! I don't normally write reviews, but I was so disappointed here that I wanted to share this. I was at a Christmas party that took place in the restaurant where you could choose between a meat menu and a vegan menu. While the meat dishes were attractively presented, the vegan menu was a real disappointment. The only good thing was the pumpkin carpaccio at the beginning, which was followed by a fairly monotonous clear broth without any addition. The main course consisted of an unseasoned, hard piece of smoked tofu (directly from the packaging into the pan), a few drops of ready-made chili sauce on top, a vegetable skewer that was unfortunately overcooked and mashed potatoes that looked very like one Instant version tasted good. When we asked for a sauce, we received more chili sauce and lightly salted coconut milk - unfortunately no improvement. The dessert was a very solid cream that was unfortunately not edible. Overall, the vegan menu seemed unthought out and unloving. Afterwards, everyone who chose this menu was still hungry. Unfortunately, there were also repeated problems with the service. The staff were irritable and couldn't remember where the vegans were sitting, so they kept serving the wrong dishes. When asked about the food, the staff were unable to provide any information about what was currently being served. “Are you vegan or normal?” was then the standard question at some point. The delay with the wines was also disappointing: Although we were looking forward to the main course with a glass of wine, it was only served after repeated requests towards the end of the dessert - unfortunately with too few glasses. The remaining glasses didn't arrive until another 15 minutes later. I will avoid this restaurant in the future and unfortunately I really can't recommend it.

We were there with a Christmas party. All in all it was a nice evening. Unfortunately, sometimes orders were forgotten (drinks) or food was brought incorrectly. The staff tried hard but sometimes seemed a bit overwhelmed. There was also a lot going on that evening. My meal (carpaccio, beef fillet) was 1a. I'm leaning toward 4.5 stars, but unfortunately that's not possible here, so with some reservations, 4 very good stars from me.

All of our food was very tasty and the service staff were all friendly and helpful. We felt very comfortable and will come back more often. By the way, I can highly recommend the Cordon Bleu. The beef carpaccio and the grill plate were also very tasty, although a bit (too) expensive for the portion size.

Friendly restaurant with excellent service.

The service was nice, attentive and super friendly. The shop is unusual for a pub, but in a positive sense. Not classically old and wood paneled, but pleasantly modern. Unfortunately the food overall wasn't good. The portions were, as is typical for a brewery/tavern, far too generous. So way too much. Which isn't a bad thing if it's tasty. But unfortunately neither the burger nor the popped pork belly was seasoned. Can you eat? You get full. But unfortunately it's not good. But there is some finesse missing.

Unfortunately the pork tenderloin and vegetables were cold. The vegetables were not seasoned enough. Too bad. We liked the ambience, but unfortunately cold food is not an option. Unfortunately the pork loin was also too dry. Service friendly.

So I give it a 10/5 rating. The restaurant was fully booked, but I was still offered a table for four. The service was very quick, friendly and attentive. As a starter I ate a pancake soup, which tasted really good and had plenty of pancakes. For the main course I ate the onion roast. This was so tender and cooked to the doneness I ordered, you can't learn that. The fries were fried so perfectly that they rounded off the main course perfectly. As dessert there was the tiramisu as a golden finale. It was so creamy and fluffy and so delicious. This was my first visit but 1000% not the last visit. This is a restaurant that gives you a special kind of palate explosion! Keep it up!

We ate here for the first time today. Great service, good, tasty food. Stylish, modern - but still cozy atmosphere (only the napkins don't quite fit 😉 ) We'd love to come back.

Hello everyone, why don't you read your messages and respond to them. We were with you last night at 6:30 p.m. and wanted to spend a cozy evening together with delicious food. Sorry guys, you really have to step on the gas, we were barely seated and our table was right at the bar. It took an eternity for our food to arrive and it was really beautifully prepared but my sauce and champions were watery and the hash browns were a disaster. My wife had pasta and the green noodles tasted like nothing and onions galore. When we were finished it took 30 minutes until we asked if everything was okay, of course not. We would have liked to have dessert and cappuccino, but decided to stop and pay. Dear Zöllner team, please take your guests to heart and change something about it.

The inn is a very nice and modern restaurant. The ambience really makes you feel good. We all also enjoyed the food very much. The only thing you can complain about is the organization. For many things you had to ask 2-3 times before you got them. But that probably seems to be due to the rush, because the staff was really very friendly and apologized for it. Still a very pleasant experience. Gladly again

Rustic setting in a modern environment, quality cuisine and friendly service

Very friendly welcome, drinks served quickly. Food arrived in a timely manner. However, we were there at 5:30 p.m. Nice, attentive staff. Both meals were very tasty. A little higher priced, but still within the range. We were very satisfied, full and happy 😊

Nice facility, someone thought of it - but unfortunately it was very loud. Service okay. Unfortunately the food wasn't good, most likely convenience food. My expectations when visiting a restaurant: Fresh & delicious food (better than at home), good service and a nice ambience, but I would have happily paid €65 for 1 starter, 2 main courses and 3 drinks. But unfortunately not like that 👎

Wow! I have never had such a beautifully prepared pork schnitzel with chanterelles and bacon spaetzle. Big compliments to the kitchen. But the “rest around it” is worth a clear recommendation! 👍

After we enjoyed our first visit a few months ago, we came here again for my birthday. My husband reserved a table for the two of us in advance and specifically mentioned that we were coming for my birthday. Unfortunately, no one on site responded to it. I really didn't ask for anything big, but a candle on the table or a "congratulations" would have been appropriate. I know it from other restaurants (I also work in a hotel with a restaurant) that note something like this and usually even a small glass of champagne or some other small gift is offered. But as I said, nothing happened here. The service team is constantly chatting with each other and you can hear that it's not always about ongoing operations. That was the case last time too. So of course they don't notice when you keep looking at them for a long time and want something. That just doesn't work at all.

Interior modern/with wood Friendly reception Reservation online very easy and good. Service OK but could be improved. (The question was specifically asked as to whether a side salad was to be served with the main course or before, then it turned out exactly the other way around..., non-alcoholic shandy was ordered, served at the table with the information that it was alcohol-free, halfway through I looked at the bottle, it had alcohol... Ordered 3 x desserts, 2 came quickly, the 3rd came after the other two were empty) everything wasn't really that bad, but not very good either. Eat: Starter: Italian antipasti was a bit sad for the price (picture) Main courses: Onion roast is great! Pinsa great! Unfortunately, the pasta was rather tasteless/watered down - there was hardly any pesto on the pasta, the sauce was water with pesto and neither pine nuts nor cream as described. With salt, pepper and parmesan it was ok. It was a shame because the quantity was really plentiful. Dessert: Ice cream cafe was delicious Apple fritters with vanilla sauce are also highly recommended ;) The pizza days on Monday and Sunday are definitely interesting to go to! Also 2 out of 3 meals were very tasty. We were quite satisfied, but not thrilled, maybe on our next visit on one of the pizza days ;)

Among the original old buildings it is by far the most beautiful newly built in Güterbahnhof. The interior is fantastic. Food was good. But there is a no dog policy which is a surprise and didn't give us a welcome feeling.

The ambience is great and the service is good. The food wasn't as great as I thought, but it's always a matter of taste. I had a pizza that was actually ok but not special and the vegetables on it didn't taste good at all, it was reminiscent of a frozen pizza from before. However, I would like to explicitly point out that the pizza was NOT frozen, I don't know about the vegetables, but I don't think so either, it was more the preparation. But I would come again to try another dish, so it will probably be updated here again.

The ambience is very nice. The service was unfortunately very inattentive. And the portion, in my case fish, was far too small. Unfortunately I wasn't full. The price was decent for that.

Super friendly service, great atmosphere - really a very nice shop. especially from the facility - please see more of this in Freiburg. Now to the food: Meat well to very fried, but we were shocked by the canned mushrooms with the Jägerschnitzel and the watery ready-made sauce for both meat dishes (also for the onion roast) - completely incomprehensible with such quality of meat not to make a proper sauce... One can only hope that a rethink is taking place here.

Taste is discussable. But if the menu says coleslaw and instead you just get a small pile of grated carrots and white cabbage, very dry... - the tarte flambée was frozen, as is usually the case elsewhere, okay - but unfortunately also very dry and quite bland - perhaps left under the salamander for too long before serving. The waiting times were also very long - it's a shame that the long waiting times weren't pointed out. The attractive furnishings and ambience are positive.

At quarter to nine you can't get a table because they close at ten Addendum, didn't go around the topic at all, just got to the point in a nutshell. The activity was in full swing, as some guests had only recently received their food, the activity was in full swing, so I expected to get two dishes and two drinks within 75 minutes. The point of this review is to decide whether you want to be a restaurant or a pub, the kitchen opening times are usually adjusted accordingly. I absolutely respect the work of those working in the catering industry because they are a very important part of our culture and because they work exactly when others have time off. I find your reaction regrettable. Wish you and your team continued success.

Unfortunately, I haven't eaten such a boring burger in a long time and the other dish had a very dark hash brown and was soggy. The coleslaw with the burger didn't suit our taste either. Overall the food was ok, but boring. The location is chic, but a bit sober - as is the service. Unfortunately, the restaurant doesn't have a changing table. It was a nice stay, but due to the fairly high prices for the quality presented, we wouldn't repeat it.

Unfortunately my food wasn't delivered and I had to watch my companion eat. At least the Pinsa was free to take away afterwards. When I asked if a taxi could be called for us, the bartender gave me the number of the taxi company. But the companion was satisfied, hence 2 stars.

The biggest problem at this restaurant is clearly the service. Poorly organized, slow and ultimately unfriendly. If the food for five people doesn't come to the table at the same time and in the end sometimes doesn't come at all, no one asks whether it's okay or something is missing, it's not possible to ask for a simple salt shaker and a second drink isn't even brought, then you can guess how it's about the service. Reference is made again and again to a supposedly full restaurant, even though a third of the tables upstairs were unoccupied. The sad end is that not even a taxi is called in the end. At least the food was okay.

Great German cuisine in a stylish restaurant.

Solid cuisine, nice staff. For a romantic meal I would choose another place, a good place for small or larger groups. We were here with almost 30 people and there was still plenty of space.

We were there twice with our dog. After a long wait, a service person came and rudely told us that we had to leave the restaurant immediately. When we were told that we had already been here with a dog, she said that couldn't be the case. If there were minus points for the service, I would be happy to give them. On a friendly note, no problem, we would have been happy to go. But like, no thanks.

It couldn't be worse...French fries half-frozen....Children wait 1.5 hours for a few fries and two nuggets.... Bruschetta on unroasted bread🤔 a shame that you are ruining Italian cuisine like this... If you're overwhelmed, just let us know...there are plenty of people who know their craft and aren't looking for money...

Great host, nice service staff and large selection! The food is always good, we always enjoy coming.

Dogs are not welcome! Absolutely inappropriate in this day and age - and with so many people with dogs all over the city. I have never experienced a restaurant where dogs are not allowed - the owner is probably a dog hater! Therefore, preferably 0 stars and just avoid the place. There are much better restaurants in the area, all of which can be visited with a dog and then tested. And you as the owner should really think about abolishing this regulation otherwise at some point the bad reviews will get out of hand and then no one will go there anymore, whether with a dog or without.

Solid menu, food good and tasty, portions decent, good ingredients, well prepared, good beer, service attentive and attentive, we'll be happy to come back, certainly nice to sit outside in the summer.

Um kurz nach zwanzig Uhr war die Hälfte der Gerichte aus, obwohl das Lokal nur zur Hälfte besetzt war. Bis das erste Getränk serviert wurde, dauerte es mehr als 30 Minuten. Nach über einer Stunde, als bereits zwei der drei bestellten Gerichte auf dem Tisch standen, wurden wir nicht besonders höflich darauf hingewiesen, dass unser kleiner Hund, der brav unter dem Tisch saß, das Lokal sofort verlassen müsse (wir haben durchaus Verständnis für eine geltende Hausordnung, das Hundeverbot war uns leider nicht bewusst). Ein klein bisschen Kulanz wäre in diesem Moment in positiver Erinnerung geblieben. Das dritte Essen, dass wir daraufhin abbestellt haben, fand sich trotzdem auf der Rechnung wieder. Unser Resumée: Einmal und nie wieder, schade um jeden Euro.

Mein Fazit, Essen lauwarm und nicht besonders lecker. Besonders für den Preis. Das schlimmere war jedoch das Service Personal. Sehr Unaufmerksam und und nicht besonders freundlich. Nach der Bitte ob man noch etwas trinken könne, wurde man an Kollegen weitergeleitet, die jedoch nie kamen. Leider nicht wirklich empfehlenswert.

Very nice location, I came without a reservation and was warmly welcomed. Service was top and the food was really outstanding. I had a baked potato salad and my girlfriend had the rump steak. I will come more often from now on!😊

Really just wow! The food is amazing, the prices are good and it looks very nicely decorated. I can only recommend the Alte Zöllner and would happily drive 200km again to be able to eat there, I've eaten something so delicious somewhere!
