Wirtshaus Maximilian in München

The main courses and the atmosphere were great. But the Kaiserschmarrn was more than disappointing. Dry, hard - practically inedible. Too bad

Super good restaurant and a good service team.

Wirtshaus Maximilian is a Great Place to eat at, very traditional in a sense there weren’t many tourists and you can see by the mugs by the wall that many choose this place as a Stammtisch location. The Schnitzel was delicious but the cordon Bleu hat a little too much obazda for our liking. I do recommend checking this place out if you’re in Munich!

A really rustic restaurant, like from earlier times, great decoration, a cozy fireplace and various tables and seating areas. Very friendly and attentive staff, great service and a varied menu with very generous portions. A real insider tip and also highly recommended for larger groups, top!!!

Rest day last week, we were lucky this week. We spontaneously got a place for two hours without a reservation, which is no longer a given in Munich. The place looks very clean and tidy. The room layout is well done. The background noise allows conversations at a normal volume. The outdoor area is large and feels inviting. We were seated very quickly. The first beer was brought very quickly and was poured absolutely correctly, but not from a wooden barrel. It was a bit stale, like all the other beer brought. The tap system was probably not set correctly. The food wasn't nearly as good as it sounded on the menu. As a starter we had 1xObatzn and 1xSalmon Matjes Tartar. The taste of the Obatzta was good, it could have contained a little more solid cheese (Brie?). Overall it wasn't very creamy. The garnish was appropriate, but there could have been a little more dressing. The house bread, especially the Schüttelbrot (not too much caraway), was a good addition. The salmon matjes tartare was almost perfect, perhaps a little too salty, but otherwise perfectly balanced with all the side dishes. The vegetarian schnitzel (breaded feta cheese), grilled vegetables and tomato sauce could have been good. The individual components were very good, but together they didn't work at all on one plate. The tomato sauce had an extremely strange and unpleasant taste and aftertaste that we couldn't identify. Unfortunately, that ruined the whole dish. The mussels with garlic bread were served in the classic way. The side dish recommendation, namely fries, was irritating. When asked, it was said that guests like to order it. The mussels were probably fresh, but certainly pre-cooked and therefore robbed of any texture or taste. The white wine stock could have used all the flavoring ingredients. It was probably not the real broth from cooking the mussels, but just water mixed with soup vegetables. Unfortunately, the garlic bread tasted exclusively of burnt garlic and was therefore inedible, even though it was certainly freshly made. Unfortunately, the location and the really well-written menu are not reflected in the cuisine.

Nice Bavarian restaurant, very friendly service, overall nice stay.

Very nice Augustiner restaurant in the city center. Great atmosphere with fireplace and impressive wooden ceiling and generally classic but very nice furnishings. Kristina was extremely attentive and gave us a great evening. Food was very good, the Wienerschnitzel and the cordon bleu are highly recommended. Price-performance ratio normal for downtown Munich. Best beer quality and tap culture!!

Cozy inn with a small but nice menu. Very nice service dressed in traditional costumes, there we ordered Viennese and Munich schnitzel and Styrian fried chicken, as well as the tasty Augustiner Hell on tap. To stimulate digestion, we had Schroffen's Zirbeschnaps at the end.

Very good food - attentive service!

We celebrated our birthday with almost 20 people. Great support from Madita and Lena in advance. Great evening, including our own wooden barrel with delicious Augustiner. Clear recommendation for the snack boards, actually ordered as a starter to share, they were so rich that we hardly ordered any main courses, which is a shame because they were also great. We'd love to come back. Thanks for the lovely evening!

- Gravy on the pants from a waitress who passes the food across the table instead of walking around the table and serving the plate properly. - And it wouldn't be so bad if she apologized properly and you were kindly greeted with a small gesture without being asked - instead, when we asked how to deal with something like that, the manager of the inn responded in an unprofessional and arrogant manner - Chef makes supposedly funny jovial jokes at the expense of other waitresses and guests - Food tasted ok, but not sensational - but overall a rather disappointing visit

We went with a child. You have to make a reservation. It starts to get a bit crowded and noisy after 18:00, if you don't have a child with you, I think it's okay, it has a nice atmosphere. We had Munich schnitzel and classic schnitzel. We tried 2.03 different beers and they were all very delicious, we weren't overly pleased with the food but I can't say it was bad. Thank you for everything. I have to add that instead of fries, order potato salad with the schnitzel, it was delicious.

Very nice Bavarian traditional place. Be careful for toilet, the dog on mans toilet door have Lederhosen and ladies toilet door have dog with Dirndl 🤣

Typical Bavarian restaurant with very good cuisine. Portions are more than sufficient. The service could be more attentive. Both when covering the plate and when preparing drinks, desserts and digestifs.

Very friendly staff, very good home-style cuisine with a good price-performance ratio, funny and self-critical chef who also makes dishes that are currently missing on the menu possible. A gem and idyll!

Place is very nicely located and it is quite authentic. I live a couple of blocks away and it’s the best balance between the city center and non-touristic restaurant. Our waiter was extremely attentive and funny with the right amount of visits to our table and a motivating humor even in English! Be aware, they all have a strong Bavarian accent! It was really fun! Now the food: I am not vegetarian but I ordered the vegetarian schnitzel, it’s a Feta Schnitzel, I must say, it was so rich and flavorful, balanced with a delicious salad, and the feta must not have been overly fatty as I did not develop any tummy problems that I would love to go back to this place just for this dish! Not overly salty, not overly spiced up, it was quite balanced for what I know German food to be. My friends ordered Wiener schnitzel and it was fantastic! So tender and flavorful and I must admire the fried part, it was absolutely perfect on the crunch but soft, and juicy sides. I would highly recommend this restaurant. The atmosphere was delightful, happy people, singing, chanting, there was a group playing some instruments and the typical Bavarian folk music without it hurting your ears or I limiting your conversation with others on the table. Overall, very good experience.

We arrived at the restaurant in the evening. We sat outside. The diners next to us smoked cigarettes non-stop, we couldn't breathe.... Having no other choice left, we moved... We ordered soup and dessert. Not very tasty... Slow and annoying service The order took 40 minutes to arrive. Not worth the price. A bad and unpleasant experience

Snack board (for 2 people or more) - very big disappointment! The description on the map sounds very promising; Tatar, Obazda, sausage, cheese, house specialties & bread, we asked specifically what that meant, unfortunately the waiter, since he was new, couldn't tell us exactly & neither did the colleagues he asked. could not provide precise information. We decided to do it anyway. We got, for 2 people - 2 slices of cheese, pickle, lots of sausage, lard & 2 pieces of Schüttelbrot. The waiter asked us for more bread, whereupon we received another basket of Schüttelbrot and some regular bread. After asking again where the Tatar & the Obazda were, as described on the map, they said Tatar was out. After returning the dish, the waiter came back with the same dish and a small plate with two unappetizing scoops of minced meat, which was supposed to be considered 'tartare'. Unfortunately, the waiter didn't dare to clear away the remains of the snack plate afterwards and didn't ask about our satisfaction even after paying the bill, and offered a little something on the house as compensation. Never been so disappointed in a restaurant!

Easily accessible inn with its own bicycle parking space. Food was solid, unfortunately a little salt was missing. Schnitzel is a pleasant size and the Augustiner beer on tap also tastes good 🙏🏼

Unfortunately, this is my first Google review, but I felt compelled to do so after our visit to the inn. We had an appointment there with a group of friends. Since my friend has celiac disease and can't eat gluten, I called ahead to ask about the allergens in the dishes since there was no information about them online. Unfortunately, I had someone on the phone who obviously didn't know what gluten was. When I asked if the risotto contained gluten (often vegetable broth contains gluten) I was told that it contained parmesan. This uncertainty was already worrying, but we decided to go anyway because at the end of the conversation the waiter mentioned that they have an allergen menu on site. When we arrived at the inn, we asked the waitress for the allergy menu. She just said that she had to look for them first and that we could just read everything important in the menu. This wasn't very helpful because without detailed ingredient information you can't know which ingredients are used or whether cross-contamination can be ruled out. Unfortunately we didn't receive the allergen card throughout the evening. When we finally ordered, we asked the waitress to check with the kitchen if the dish was indeed gluten-free. However, the waitress replied that she didn't need to ask as she already knew. Regardless of the allergy issue, the overall service was unfortunately very disappointing. We always felt guilty about ordering because the waitress made us feel like we were giving her extra work. In total we spent around €250 there, but none of us would recommend this pub. I ask you to better train your staff regarding allergens. Celiac disease is a serious medical condition and not a lifestyle choice.

An excellent Bavarian restaurant! The food was outstanding, from the quality of the ingredients to the authentic preparation. The service was equally impressive: attentive, friendly and always helpful. Definitely recommended!

Excellent food, very nice service, very child-friendly. If you have children, it makes sense to get there earlier, before 6 p.m., because it's not that crowded then. The furnishings are very stylish, modern and traditional at the same time.

The food was so-so, but the prices were too high. A Cordon Bleu for 28 euros is actually cheeky...

We ended up in this Bavarian restaurant. Cordon Bleu and fried chicken tasted good. The cordon tasted a little different but interesting. Price wise it was OK. The waiters were friendly and attentive.

We ate at Maxi again this afternoon. Munich schnitzel and two asparagus - cooked to perfection and accompanied by a very tasty hollandaise. The cuisine and service are not only good, friendly and accommodating, but also extremely entertaining! Time flies... In any case, we are happy to have the Maxi right across from us!

Nice ambience but a sound like in the train station or in the swimming pool. Food is expensive in terms of price, taste is actually so-so. The roast pork was nothing, the asparagus risotto was OK. Beer was great but the Aperol Spritz tasted like it had been rum for days. Service was OK but not particularly nice. Best statement: "Unfortunately the Kaiserschmarrn is out." Hm ok, no flour, milk and eggs at the start? Oh well! I probably wouldn't come back.

Great little bar with good service and clean establishment

Delicious cheese spaetzle. Hollandaise on the asparagus but unfortunately rancid and curdled - actually bad. Really outrageous: when asked about it, Koch behaved snappily, defiantly and provocatively. He talked himself into a choleric rage. Extremely unpleasant. And that with a friendly, objective criticism in response to a seemingly not really serious question about whether everything had been to our satisfaction. A pity. Disappointing.

We stopped here for dinner and had a great meal. They had a server that spoke English and English menus. It was nice because they had 10 or so beers available at the time, which has been more than other places we have gone. The food was amazing, and the service was great. It's a little off the tourist paths but we'll worth it.

Yes, where did you accidentally knock over the full beer? It actually means, I bring you a new one... Because... completely different. And that should be a Bavarian economy. Ugh deifi. And that was such a good economy, the old Kreuzberger.

Beautiful inn in the middle of the Glockenbach district. Bright Bavarian ambience with a great old tiled stove. As you would expect in a pub, it is loud. The service was super friendly and really fast...the kitchen (unfortunately?) too. The food was on the table in under 10 minutes. I was impressed. I was less impressed by the tasteless schnitzel. Unfortunately, the breading was soft to mushy, by no means crispy and fresh, and the fries were unremarkable. The second dish was of okay quality, but given the prices, our expectations were different. If the food was as good as the service, it would be a clear recommendation.

Munich Cordon Bleu is always delicious. Optionally with potato salad or fries. Plus cold beer. Very good.

Quaint economy, typical Munich. The food was very good, the staff was very friendly and nice. Unfortunately, it gets very loud inside very quickly. But still highly recommended. The best beer in town.

Oh well. Food took a long time and was really cold and pretty mediocre. Really nothing special for the price. At least the service was friendly and the atmosphere is quite nice.

Real Bavarian restaurant near Munich historic center with typical food and drinks, probably my girlfriend and I were the only foreign people there. Waiters wear traditional dresses and there is a couple of musicians playing local music. Dishes are good and large, average prices. Definitely recommended.

Wir waren mit einer größeren Gruppe zum Weihnachtsessen im Wirtshaus. Essen war gut, der Service vor Ort auch. Da wir die Anzahl der Teilnehmer nicht genau einschätzen konnten, haben wir für 20-25 Personen reserviert und waren dadurch in der Wirtschaft gesessen. Durch positive Corona Fälle hat sich das auf 19 reduziert und die nicht von uns genutzten Tische wurden von anderen Leuten belegt. Im Nachgang haben wir dann eine Mail vom Wirtshaus bekommen, mit dem Wunsch, den fehlenden Wunschumsatz durch eine zusätzliche Zahlung zu begleichen. Das ganze bei Essenspreisen zwischen 15 und 30€ pro Portion finde ich schon unverschämt!

Mein Kumpel Tobias war von seinem Kaiserschmarn und hat, deshalb ein brutales Solo beim Schafkopfen verloren. Mir persönlich hat alles zugesagt 🙂

Kaiserschmarrn viel zu hart. Preise etwas zu hoch, essen war ganz ok. Service könnte besser sein.

We had social event dinner at Maximilian after our deutsch museum tour which is 15minutes away. The beer was nice and same goes for the food. Very tasty. We shared our truffle pasta, duck, salad with mozzarella cheese and schwitzal. The place is can be quite noisy as the windows are all closed.

General is ok except on ordering is bad experience. Staff is not attentive when we wanted to order our dinner. Needed to go to the counter and get the staff attentions.

We chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday with a group of friends from all over the world. It was listed on Time Out as one of the best in Munich and the atmosphere and food was fantastic as was service. The only issue was the the wait staff were very insist at that we tip heavily when paying for our food, and it’s not that we didn’t want to tip it just felt very pushy. I assume it’s tourist tax because of Oktoberfest opening weekend. Great schnitzel and beer 🍻

Schönes, traditionelles Lokal. Auch draußen Sitzen an der ruhigen Straße ist prima! Hier hab ich mein erstes vegetarisches Brotzeit Brettl gegessen! Sehr lecker mit Käse, gebratenem Gemüse, auch Kürbis und Aufstrichen. Bier: Augustiner. Ich geh wieder hin.👍😊

Top Service, nette Mitarbeiter. Zuvorkommend und locker. Der Schweinebraten ist zu empfehlen nur die Bratensoße etwas schwach aber dafür ist die Kruste unschlagbar.

Essen sehr gut, Service fix. Aber für 0,2 mittelmäßigen Rosé 9,20 ist schon knackig. Auch wenn es eigentlich eine Bier-Location ist ....

Nice food and terrace, perfect for meeting friends and having a beer with some food. The beef tartar and cordon bleu were delicious. The kaiserschmarrn was a bit dry for our taste.

Der Service war super freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Essen sehr lecker.Die Portionen waren groß. Empfehlenswert,wir kommen gerne wieder. Wir saßen im Freien vor dem Lokal.

A bissen enttäuscht von der Portionsgrösse.. der Hauptspeise wenn ich es mit dem Kaiserschmarrn vergleichen..

Sehr schönes Wirtshaus in top Lage

Going for a nightcap to "Maximilian", I really enjoyed the Russ I had. Luckily this drink was very refreshing and easy to drink, without any risk involved when drinking it...😏. I consider visiting Maximilian again to taste some of the food they have as well.

Entspannte Atmosphäre, solide Wirtshausküche. Wirtshausküche im Münchner Stil, heißt: Schnitzel und Co. gibt's natürlich, aber auch mal Ochs und Pfifferlingssalat, schön angerichtet, mittelhohes Preisniveau (16/17€-30€ pro Gang), normale Portionsgröße. Geschmacklich wirklich solide und gut, aber auch nicht herausragend oder besonders. Service war super, nur hätte ich uns zu zweit in einem sonst fast leeren Lokal nicht unbedingt direkt neben die 12 köpfige feuchtfröhlige Freudesgruppe gesetzt. Denke jedoch , hätten wir etwas gesagt, wären wir sicher auch woanders platziert worden. Haben auch einen überdachten Aussenbereich und Schanigarten. Sprich: man macht hier nichts falsch, aber für den besonderen Anlass würde ich woanders hin;)

Kleines süßes Wirtshausfest dort gefeiert! Super Organisation, toller Service und gute Preise.

Sehr viel Service Personal,was nicht immer zur Stelle war. Das positive das Essen war sehr lecker was ich bei dem Preis aber auch erwarten kann. Rundum ein schöner Abend...

We had the muncher schnitzel, which was delicious. The chanterelle salad was also very tasty.

Direkt bei Ankunft eine Empfehlung vom Wirt erhalten: Zweilerei - Süßkartoffeln mit frischer gerösteten Pfifferlingen. Zum Abschluss eine Vogelbeere vom andern Himmel. Die Gäste am Nebentisch waren überaus reizend eine Unterhaltung wie man sie an einem Freitag Abend in einem Münchner Wirtshaus erwünscht. Kommt vorbei und überzeugt euch selbst!!!

Ein tolles Restaurant. Typisch bayrische Küche und keine „Touristenfalle“. Die Preise sind zwar etwas gehobener - durch den guten Service und das qualitative Essen aber noch gerechtfertigt. Lobenswert ist auch, dass vegane und vegetarische Speisen angeboten werden. Ich kann besonders die Käsespätzle empfehlen:)

By far my favorite Wirtshaus in Munich, especially because there are always multiple options for vegetarians. Good service, good food, great outdoor seating in summer.
