HOCHREITER'S Steirer am Markt in München

Unfortunately, the service was extremely rude and snotty. As a paying guest, you seem to be a nuisance. It's a real shame. I've read about it in other reviews, but I couldn't believe it until we experienced it ourselves today. As a Munich native, I'm shocked and ashamed that my visiting family experienced this. My advice to everyone: Spend your money somewhere else where you're also welcome as a guest.

We were there with six people. Our service person was super nice, but unfortunately the drinks weren't at all. The Negroni was honestly the worst we've ever had and you think you can't go wrong. Beer, wine or an Aperol Spritz are a better choice, they were fine. Food was okay. You can stop by for a quick beer, but nothing more.

You can relax here and dine comfortably. We sat outside. Service top.

Nice spot in the middle of the Market with Traditional Bavarian Comfort food, Quality Cold Beer and good service. We ate hear 2 times last year while in Munich. One time for lunch and one time for a late dinner as it was within easy walking distance of our hotel. Service each time was polite prompt and accommodating. We had to wait for about 10 min to be seated for lunch but the food and beer was worth the wait. Our 2nd time We showed up late, around 8 or 8:30pm on a week night after returning from a days drive outside Munich. We approached the waiter and he told us the kitchen was about to close but he would see if he could get us in to eat before they shutdown. He came back out and told us that they would be happy to cook something up for us if we promised to be quick ordering before the kitchen staff left. The schnitzel was very good as was the Bratwurst and the Potato pancakes plus desert was great and the beer was Outstanding. For the food quality and quantity we felt everything was priced fairly. HOCHREITER'S is Munich's equivalent to your local hometown neighborhood pub with your local favorites on the menu. If you are looking for 5 star service and food you will be disappointed. If you are looking for a quality meal at a fair price in a laid-back comfortable neighborhood setting then you will be very happy.

Worst service in whole of Munich

The ambience is nice, the service was good, the tarte flambée was excellent. Only the drink prices are a disgrace. 16€ for a 0.2 glass of sour red wine!! You feel ripped off!

Just bad, changed several times, no service, food disaster

Delicious food, currently even with its own asparagus menu, for, as expected, higher prices. However, the portion sizes were still within reasonable limits given the location right in the city center. The ambience was also nice, but there was a very unpleasant feeling while the outside area was still being served because the door was permanently open. Although the service was stressful due to the higher number of visitors, it was still friendly. Food came very quickly and at the same time, even though we were there with a larger group. The asparagus risotto and the Kaiserschmarn are highly recommended.

Tourist trap nonsense. You can't have a pleasant drink with your partner because staff will shove random strangers at your table without any warning. When asked why, "this is how it works". Rude and unnecessary. Go elsewhere.

In the central market A few meters from Marienplatz, we found this typical restaurant specializing in Bavarian food. Although it has a very busy outdoor terrace on sunny days, the interior was almost empty, which allowed us to enjoy a quieter atmosphere. We decided to let the staff advise us, but opting for dishes to share, since the portions we saw at the other tables were generous. We started with a bouillabaisse soup, intense and well seasoned, followed by a seasonal salad, fresh and balanced. As a main course, we tried a beef schnitzel in the Munich style, well cooked and with a crispy batter, although no big surprises. The restaurant operates at a high volume of work, but despite this, the service was prompt and attentive. The dishes arrive well cooked and properly presented, without great pretensions, but faithful to the Bavarian tradition. In short, a satisfying experience, with the right quality-price ratio, ideal for enjoying a typical meal in the heart of Munich without complications.

Nice restaurant in the inner city. It has a relaxed and easy atmosphere and very friendly and attentive staff. The Wiener Schnitzel was fine but nothing special which was a tad disappointing. The Kaiserschmarrn on the other hand was great!

Food was quite good, staff was completely rude. I wanted to pay with a card and was asked: “How poor can you be to pay this amount with a card?” Absolute impudence. Maybe you'll think again about whether the lady from Saturday, March 8th, 2025, who was standing at the drinks and food counter around 6 p.m., is a good choice for customer contact.

We used to go to this restaurant often and spent a lot of money on site, even though the staff was unfriendly back then. As a single guest (my husband and I) you are not welcome at all if you don't look ultra-rich. This shop is very aloof and arrogant and has unfortunately changed even more for the worse. What a shame!

There is no nicer place when the sun comes out in March.

We were warmly greeted and seated. The economy is not a typical Augustinian economy. The modern furnishing style, the menu and the large wine list tend to be aimed at a more demanding audience. Overall, everything is well maintained and clean, but the toilet situation is very noticeable. The cladding of the entrance looks like a closet and breaks with the otherwise beautifully designed interior and is very prominent in the guest room. An attractive door or a less conspicuous solution would be a better choice here. The air smelled very perfumed. Otherwise the evening was accompanied by lounge music. On a beautiful sunny day, the hustle and bustle of the Viktualienmarkt can be observed in an attractive outdoor area. The service was very quick and sometimes a bit over-present, but anyone who enjoys consistently attentive service will appreciate this. The food order was not written down and the contents were forgotten. This was solved well thanks to the quick inquiries from the waitress. In retrospect it turned out that the service was still fairly new to the restaurant, but overall the service was very good. The beer tasted fresh and was well poured. The wine recommendation for the three types of tartare was suitable and good. In addition to the three types of tartare, a pinsa and a cheese platter were ordered at the end. The triple tartare consisted of beef, tuna and avocado and was a complete success. There is no suggestion for improvement on this. The dish could serve as the restaurant's signature dish. As a side dish there was a wonderful and obviously high quality bread. The pinsa was topped with plenty of cheese, some leeks and high-quality truffles. The dough was almost perfect. He could have developed an idea more fully, but opinions differ on that point. The cheese was too much for my taste and quite bland. A little more courage to use a stronger cheese would be nice here. The truffle was very tasty and of high quality. The cheese platter was served at the end. The cheese selection was good, but the cheese platter was neither explained in detail on the menu nor by the waiter. From soft cheese to hard cheese and cow's milk to goat's milk, everything was there and very tasty. The ripe grapes were particularly pleasing.

Chic restaurant. You can easily observe the hustle and bustle of the viktualienmarkt from outside. Prices are local and we were also allowed to take our dog with us. The only thing we found took getting used to was the “access control” like at a disco.

Unfortunately, the beautiful location is overshadowed by the very unfriendly staff. You get the feeling that if you come without fur and hyaluronic acid in your lips, you'll be reluctant to place it. Unfriendly and incomprehensible answers are given to friendly inquiries about reservations that are not due for another 3 hours. The prices are reasonable for Munich city center and the location. Unfortunately no recommendation.

Six of us came here for a bite to eat and a drink around lunchtime. Atmospheric and relaxed without a lot of crowds. The regulars' table as a former workbench immediately catches the eye. Very nice interior design idea. Delicious hot chocolate and good mulled wine, as well as good tarte flambée.

Very very rude staff. Shame on such a beautiful city. Impossible to eat because we were told that the kitchen was closed, but the table next to us which reflected a well-filled wallet was allowed to eat. We were allowed 2 beers, but impossible to pay for them without being criticized or spoken badly by customers very close to the manager. Run away, unless you have a lot of money and like to show it off. The manager will be delighted.

The service is an absolute disaster! We had a friendly Christmas party there. While the first round of beers were already empty, the two wines had been missing for over an hour. Even when asked several times (during an order, before and after) they didn't respond. Food without drinks, unfriendly service. Disorganized and sometimes really derogatory and arrogant. Plus points: EXCELLENT CUISINE. And the ambience and location.

We were greeted by a tall, big man wearing glasses. He was extremely unpleasant, maybe he did not want to welcome two tourists! !!! "The kitchen is closed" he told us. We stayed on the terrace for half an hour and saw many dishes go through to other tables. It seems that in Munich, in this kind of place, tourists can not eat. I absolutely do not recommend this place that should choose its small staff better!

Very nice restaurant, great service, delicious food… what more could you want

As a Munich resident, I was here for the first time and unfortunately I have to say: an absolute failure. 33€ for a “Zürcher Geschnetzeltes”, consisting of 4-5 pieces of partly tough veal (?) meat - elsewhere this is at best an appetizer. We're not even talking about the (lack of) taste here. My recommendation: give the Hochreiter a wide berth.

My new favorite place for an after-work beer and snack. Finally, a tarte flambée and a Kaiserschmarrn for two, actually for four. Top recommendation!

We went to this restaurant on the first evening of our visit to Munich. Good cuisine and super friendly team. Very on point, maybe a little too quick when it comes to putting food on the table. We had the feeling that the kitchen was overstaffed or had nothing to do. But it's better that way than waiting forever, right? 🤔 We recommend this restaurant and will definitely come again.

Prices are very expensive, so you expect good service, unfortunately this is not the case at all

Wir haben über Open Table reserviert und die Reservierung wurde auch bestätigt. 100 km Anreise und dann wurde uns gesagt das kein Tisch frei wäre und das ihr System mit Open table bei ihnen nicht funktioniert. Vielleicht können sich die Betreiber vorstellen wie schlecht dann dieser Abend verlaufen ist. Wir wurden zwar nach ewigen unverständlichen Erklärungen an einem (schlechten)Tisch platziert , aber trotzdem war der Abend gelaufen. Es sollte eigentlich ein Testessen sein für eine größere Feier, aber so wurde leider nur ein kurzes „Essen & Gehen“ daraus. Vielleicht sollte man sich von Open table abmelden , das erspart Enttäuschung bei den Gästen. Das Essen war ok aber auch nicht mehr. Der Service hat zumindest versucht mit Freundlichkeit unsere sichtliche Enttäuschung zu lindern

Ordered the club sandwich and it was the worst sandwich I’ve ever had. The bread is paper thin and the whole thing fell apart before even reaching me. Not to mention it tastes like feces. To top it off they poured my beer 4/5 of the way to the top. All for 25 euros. Terrible

Popular spot in the market to grab drinks/food. Tough to find a spot at a table but if you’re open to sharing tables it should be fine. You can always ask the staff for help. Any table with menus down is open for seating, no self service.

Visited this place during Euro 2024. Great food, great service. We came for lunch, but did t realize they have breakfast menu as well. Looking forward to try their Kaiserschmarm

The waiter was very unpleasant. Despite the partial occupancy, he required us to make an additional order, claiming that it was the best table (it was a normal table) where we had to order for 300-400 Euro. The food was OK, but the dinner was spoiled by a waiter with a red beard. This place is totally unmissable

Group of 7 people, free tables. The waiter says he gives us the best table (it was a standard table, not a special one). We place the order and things start to get unpleasant. A bald waiter with a red beard says that we ordered too little and demanded that we order more. The food was OK, no fireworks, we ordered 3 different dishes. The sparkling water we ordered was not brought to us (not on the receipt). Additionally, lemonade was accidentally spilled on the dress of one of the guests, for which we were apologized. The waiter said that he would have problems with the manager because this table should bring €300-400. There was no full occupancy. We thought it was a joke or a hidden camera. The atmosphere in this restaurant is very poor. The dishes were served relatively quickly. The only plus was the cooling mist it had make our stay more pleasant. Definitely a place to miss.

Absolutely bad service The most expensive wine is automatically charged without asking which one you would like. Non-alcoholic drinks are dismissed as fun drinks. Food is completely overpriced. Toilets are absolutely filthy

Delicious avocado crostini appetizer followed by mixed green salad with marinated shrimp for me and shrimp scampi for Hubs. They also serve my new fave drink Wild Berry Lillet. Ice cream and dough balls for dessert. Highly recommend. We will be back!

I've never experienced anything like today. I was eating with my daughter at the Viktualienmarkt, since everything was full, we sat down at the foot of the fountain. The nice gentleman in traditional costume (with a high rider/shield) came rushing towards us, "We'll catch something like that." "Don't come here at all, leave here immediately," but in what tone - IMPOSSIBLE - NOGO!!!!!!! I can only conclude that it was a bad upbringing.

A nice rustic restaurant on the Viktualienmarkt. The decor is traditional and cozy. We had reserved for a small group. Unfortunately, the start was bumpy. Our table reservation caused internal irritation. After some back and forth, the situation was resolved by the service team. Man (man) showed us to the table. From then on everything was ok. A clear menu. Good beer🍺. The reception of the food was flawless. We were all served the food at the same time 👍. Everyone enjoyed it. Very good espresso ⭐️. The team was friendly, attentive and helpful. The prices are very, very demanding. We had a nice and fun evening in the restaurant

We had reserved a table for 2x2 hours. After two hours, despite enough space and sufficient turnover (6 people each, several drinks and food), we were expelled from the place in a disproportionately harsh manner because a double booking apparently did not correspond to the house rules. This was not previously communicated to us in any way. The subsequent discussion initiated by the shift management, despite our willingness to leave, remains a disappointing aftertaste of our stay. We will refrain from further visits in the future.

Unfortunately you can't give 0 stars. We had reserved 2 days in advance and expressly announced that we had a stroller with us. Apparently this was not noted. We arrived on time at 7 p.m. We were then told that they didn't know we had a stroller with us. They said they would see what could be done. After 20 minutes still no result. We then went to “Der Pschorr” and they gave us a table straight away. Warmest recommendation from us.

We had 2 x Wiener Schnitzel for €34 each!! You should actually be able to expect something for the price. We were served two breaded pieces with fried potatoes per plate, but they were so thin that they were unfortunately only “stretched”. In some places there was no meat at all, just the breadcrumbs. Since we had the same dish twice, you can't call it a slip-up. At €34 per Wiener Schnitzel you can expect reasonable quality, but the place simply seems completely overpriced. We won't be coming back.

Had food poisoning 6 hours after eating, which was probably due to the food. Funnily enough, same scenario 2 months earlier with a friend. Coincidence? I don't dare eat here anymore. In addition, there is a very unfriendly staff.

Very arrogant and unfriendly staff. Despite our seat right next to an entrance where the staff has to constantly walk through, we were safely ignored. Until we were able to order after about 10 minutes and we were treated unfriendly. We then decided to just drink a beer and went to another restaurant for dinner.

Food is ok, ambience is only ok outside. Inside you sit in a long tube. People are constantly moving and walking past (toilet). We found the waitresses to be very musty - and we've probably been there 20 times. The prices are OK.

We only stopped in to drink one or two wheat beers. The restaurant is very cozy in a rural style, but we didn't find it funny that the toilet smelled like a cowshed. The staff tried very hard to change that, but the beer price was 6 .50€ is already very exaggerated!

Völlig überbewertet. Man versucht diesen Ort mit künstlicher Verknappung aufzuwerten um die Münchner „Gesellschaft“ anzulocken. Leider gibt es einfach zu gute Konkurrenz, die dieses Vorgehen nicht nötig hat und bei der die Leistung darüber hinaus noch deutlich besser ist . Wer darauf reinfällt ist selbst schuld. Wir werden hier nie wieder zu Gast sein.

Unsere Reservierung wurde erst bestätigt und dann Tage später storniert. Die Stornierung landete bei mir im Spam. Laut Restaurantleiterin erging es scheinbar noch anderen Gästen so, da auch diese vergeblich vor Ort waren. Der Wirt hat es vorgezogen, eine Weihnachtsfeier für 70 Personen auszurichten und seine anderen Gäste wieder auszuladen. Ist sein gutes Recht. Für uns bedeutet das, nie wieder dieses Restaurant.

Der „Service“ ist extrem unfreundlich. Auf Reservierungen sollte man sich nicht verlassen. Trotz Reservierungsbestätigung und pünktlichen Erscheinens wurde diese durch einen Kellner einfach spontan storniert.

Sehr gutes Essen, bei grösserer Gesellschaft ein wenig ins Trudeln gekommen.

Leider nicht mehr, was es mal war. Heute hat es so unglaublich ekelhaft aus der Toilette gestunken, dass wir direkt wieder raus sind. Das letzte Mal war das Essen auch leider nicht mehr gut. Wir kommen nicht mehr wieder.

Wir gehen seit Jahren zu Fisch Witte und ich hatte beim Steirer ebenfalls guten zu bekommen erhofft. Leider sind meine Erwartungen durch den schlechten Service nicht erfüllt worden. Ich werde wieder hingehen, zu Fisch Witte.

Lamentable. Beaucoup trop cher pour un sachet de thé servi dans un verre, pas aimable. Ne prend pas la CB à moins de 10€, et il a fallu râler pour obtenir la monnaie.
