Wirtshaus in der Au in München

We walked in with no reservation on a busy Friday night and ended up sitting at the bar. Thomas, the bartender, was ready to give explanations and recommendations. The food was just as amazing as the service!

Wirtshaus in der Au is definitely recommended. Got a table for 4 people without a reservation. The food is super tasty, if you like Bavarian food you are definitely in good hands here.

Thomas was our bartender and server. He was very polite and helpful with recommendations from beer to food. Everything was delicious. Schweinebraten was delicious with a fantastic gravy. Wife got a Bullensteak perfectly cooked mid rare. Bernaise(?) that came with it was very tasty. Their own bier Auer Kraft Bier was quite good. They also will sell you a stein! This will be a nice one to my collection. We also did not have reservations, seemed very busy and popular and we really should have had them. We really appreciated them accommodating. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

Waiters are really friendly. Nice food with big portions. Mostly local people, not so touristic. Highly recommended in short.

We hadn't made a reservation and arrived just before 6 p.m. At reception we were told that we could only stay until 7 p.m. This wasn't a problem for us at all and we were completely okay with it. The order was taken quickly, the waiter gave us great advice and the food came very quickly. The three vegetarian dumplings are uniquely prepared and all dishes had just the right portion. The dessert was timed so that we barely had to wait a minute after our main course. The service was impeccable and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The ambience was not too old-fashioned and still very authentic. We would definitely come back and can recommend this restaurant without exception.

Rustic atmosphere, nice, dedicated service. But the culinary quality is no longer what it used to be, and in our opinion the price/performance ratio is no longer right - it's a shame because we've been coming here for 30 years.

A big and beautiful inn with very nice interior. We were in the huge Valtentin Hall in the upper floor with a beautiful painting on the ceiling. The overall opinion was that the food was excellent.

We were in the Karl Valentin Hall. The food was very good, although there were bone splinters in the duck in places from cutting. The tables were very nicely decorated, but a little too dark for eating, so you could hardly see what was on your plate. Staff very friendly and attentive.

Great lively experience kn Wirtshaus in der Au. It’s in the neighborhood we are not familiar in. They have a specialty beer that is a must try. It’s a dark hefeweisen beer. The food was alright, my steak was a bit wet and lacked the grilled char I’m accustomed in the US. Stick with the Bavarian classics, my partner’s pork roast was awesome.

Went there last night and got a place for two people without a reservation. The ambience is really very nice. The food was schnitzel and roast. The order came quite quickly and was very pleasantly hot. Top. The price is absolutely justified. There's nothing to complain about there. Service was also absolutely friendly and top. Thanks! We were at the door before 5 p.m. on a Friday a week ago without a reservation. With us there was a group of what felt like 20 people who had reserved. We were given a table for 1.5 hours without any problem, which was then reserved for someone else. At the same time, one of the group asked if we had gotten a place. Otherwise we could have joined the group because two people would have canceled. It's not something you experience every day! There are still people who are not just concerned about their well-being!🙏The waiters are all friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, I had duck with dumplings! The restaurant is typically Bavarian friendly! The 1.5 hours turned into about 4 hours! 😊It was a really successful evening, unfortunately our last evening in Munich, but we will definitely be back!!! Bavaria / Munich…I like you:-)

Delicious authentic Bavarian beer brewery with its own kitchen. Friendly atmosphere and quiet seating and top cuisine. Been for the 3rd time. It is as a favorite in my route planner.

I asked for a lemonade, they brought me a sprite, I asked the dude and he guaranteed me it is a lemonade, SMH. I asked for medium well steak, it comes with medium rare. Baked potatoes were good.

Delicious Bavarian food, great service meets a cozy Bavarian ambience... An inn as you would imagine.

The service was really very friendly and the inn is also cozy. Unfortunately my Schlutzkrapfen were quite bland. The ice cream for dessert wasn't my thing at all, my friend thought the food was a little better than me, but it wasn't "wow".

A really nice restaurant that serves typical Bavarian cuisine. We were there on a Wednesday evening, thinking we would definitely get a place without any problems. That was definitely a misjudgment. Luckily there was still a small table available for two people. It's a very loud atmosphere, but for me it also adds to the coziness. Despite the restaurant being full, the service was very good. We were constantly checking whether we needed anything else, for example when the beer was empty. We also received food and drink very quickly. All in all we were very satisfied. You get what you expect here. Hearty food, a cozy atmosphere and delicious beers. Gladly again.

Roast pork was okay, although unfortunately there was hardly any crust. The sauce and the dumpling seemed more like industrial goods to me, which should be different given the prices quoted. Service, on the other hand, was very nice and attentive.

Nice folk venue just outside the center of Munich, but easily reachable and accessible. Good German/Tyrolean food, with prices in line with those of the city. Recommended for dining or just having a beer with friends.

We were booked as a band for a company event and were allowed to play in the Karl Valentin Hall. The entire staff and the restaurant manager Thomas were very courteous, caring, attentive and warm. We were helped to carry and put away our equipment cases. This is not a given. A very special thank you for that. The innkeeper Florian Oberndorfer also asked how we were doing. The arrangements with Ms. Edelmann were also friendly and courteous. One drawback, however, is the hall acoustics. This is really a challenge for good sound. Reverberation in every corner. But that shouldn't be taken as criticism. The hall has a nice atmosphere and is just the way it is. But you should definitely keep this in mind if you are planning live music there. Good place and very good food we loved it

I recently visited this place with my girlfriend and we had a lovely time. The food was delicous and the quality was amazing. If you are looking for traditional german food, this is the spot. Our waiter Tobi was very friendly and attentive, adding to our great time. As someone living in Hamburg, this place gives me one more reason to visit Munich more often.

Nice inn, nice service, good food, absolutely okay in terms of price

Pleasant atmosphere and friendly service, but the price-performance ratio left a lot to be desired. The portions are significantly smaller than typical Bavarian portions. 18 euros for two medium-sized dumplings - 9 euros each - is simply too expensive.

The Wirtshaus in der Au is a fantastic address for anyone looking for Bavarian cosiness and excellent food! The atmosphere is traditional and welcoming, ideal for a true pub experience. The food is of high quality - from the tender roast pork to the legendary Kaiserschmarrn, everything tastes fresh and authentic.

This place is my favourite restaurant in the whole München ! I always feel welcomed here . I wholeheartedly recomand it to whom wants to feel real hospitality and genuine dishes . Thank you Wirtshaus in der Au !

The restaurant was completely full, so there was no chance without a reservation on Saturday. Nevertheless, the waiter tried to accommodate us. And it was worth it, good food (especially the roast pork), fast and friendly service.

A real Bavarian inn, a little away from the city center in Munich, but within walking distance near the Isar Gate. Just a little quieter, but without missing the flair of the inn. 🍻 The food was great, the sauces for the roast and the duck leg were simply delicious. And the Schlutzkrapfen with filling (veggi) are also a poem. 😋 The staff was extremely nice and accommodating, which rounded off our evening. 😇 This is how I imagine an inn, without the crowd of tourists and without off-the-shelf food; Way better than Hofbräuhaus and Co. Quaint Bavarian inn not far from the German Museum. Great food with a seasonally changing menu. Attentive, friendly service. I've been coming here for years when I'm in Munich and I can make it happen and I've never been disappointed.

The food and service is really great. You are served quickly and THE staff is very attentive. The prices are moderate and the portions are filling. It's a little loud but not unusual given the amount of people. Unfortunately you only ever have time slots of 1.5 hours. As soon as a table is empty, it is already occupied again. You should definitely make a reservation. Otherwise it may happen that there is no space left. I would like to go there again when I'm in Munich again. Great experience!

Very nice Biergarten close to down town and a stone throw away from the Deutsche Museum. Friendly staff fluent in Bavarian and English, plus German and English menus. Food looks delicious (I only had 2 beers) and the beer was great. Nice atmosphere outside and worth the short walk over from downtown.

We were guests here four evenings in a row. With two small children, we each got a table for 1.5 hours at 5 p.m. without a reservation. Due to the environment, highly recommended even with children who are a bit more lively. Very good food, very good service and really nice support from door to door. Gladly again at any time.
