Despite being a large-scale kitchen, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and taste. Reasonable prices and excellent service.

All the positive reviews are a mystery to me. The place is loud, cold, barely heated, and the food is lukewarm and bland.

If you're looking for good Bavarian food, this is the place to go. A nice selection of dishes at a good price/performance ratio.

Today, after our visit to the Deutsches Museum, we went to the Wirtshaus in der Au for the first time and were absolutely delighted. The atmosphere is very cozy, and you can choose from a wide variety of excellent dishes. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and the portions were quite generous. I must also commend Mansur's excellent service. He made us feel truly welcome. A very friendly employee who clearly takes great pleasure in serving his guests. We will definitely be back soon!

A very popular, always packed, Bavarian inn with slightly higher prices than average. However, the food is rather average or slightly below average. The portions are decent. There's a good children's menu. Good, fast, and friendly service.

The Wirtshaus in der Au is a truly welcoming place and one of the best examples of high-quality Bavarian tavern cuisine in Munich. The menu is also excellent for vegetarians. The dumpling dishes, in particular, are outstanding and, in my opinion, among the best in the city. Classic, robust in flavor, and expertly prepared. The atmosphere is rustic, lively, and warm. Of course, there are also some tourists, but that doesn't detract from the ambiance. Especially in winter, the tavern is incredibly cozy and invites you to linger. The service is exceptionally friendly, attentive, and warm – you truly feel welcome. Overall, an authentic Munich tavern with superb cuisine, a great atmosphere, and a genuine sense of well-being.

My relative recommended this place and we decided to book a table and give it a go. Was absolutely satisfied with the experience. The food was amazing, I had bergflex and my wife the roast pork. All the components were prepared nicely and together they made a great meal. The portions were generous as well. The staff were friendly and the food came quickly. It’s a bit off the center but it was worth the trip.

A very good experience at this restaurant. From the moment we arrived, the service was excellent. Our waiter, Mansour, stood out for being very friendly, attentive, and quick, always making sure we had everything we needed and with a very professional attitude. The atmosphere was pleasant, and everything combined made for a very enjoyable visit. Without a doubt, it's a place we would return to and highly recommend.

We stopped in here because the cafe was closed that we were going to. They allow dogs which was great. Straight away the waiter asked if we speak English and brought English menu's. Compared to the service we got at another restaurant from the night before this place was miles ahead already in service. We needed to eat something quick as we had to check out of our hotel. He realised and asked what time and spoke to the kitchen. Service was fast, polite, friendly and extras like a doggie treat and apples for the kids where provided when we left. I would definitely recommend this place and it seems like the locals like them to as they were already starting to get busy as we left.

The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious! However, the prices are exorbitant for what are actually very small portions. A mini duck leg with hardly any meat and a small piece of roast pork with two dumplings and red cabbage cost €27! A 0.5L soft drink cost a whopping €5.50. The value for money is completely off. We went for Christmas Day dinner, place was packed. Reservations needed, but we were lucky to have a table right away on a high table close to the door. We ordered plater which including some sausages, cheeses, 4 different flavored butters and the most fresh red pepper I’ve ever tasted. Both of us had duck and pork entree. Delicious but quite big portions to us. The guy served us was so nice and attentive. Thanks to him we had a wonderful time!

The inn awaits you with the typical atmosphere of a cozy tavern: convivial, warm, and a little rustic. A glance at the menu quickly reveals their attempt to combine traditional Bavarian fare with mindful sustainability. Attentive, multilingual service (thank you, Tobias!) and helpful assistance (taxi call), moderate prices, very fast service (fries for the kids as a starter), and, last but not least, flavorful and sophisticated recipes using local produce and selected suppliers – we'll definitely be back!

This was my first experience of a Munich restaurant and I was very impressed. The service was very prompt and very friendly, despite the restaurant being almost completely full. The food was delicious as well. I will return next time I’m in Munich.

Excellent beer garden outside the tourist area, with a lovely atmosphere and waiters dressed in Tyrolean attire. The food is average, with excellent pork, beef, and duck cooking. The dumplings, however, are not, as they are too firm and difficult to swallow without a little water or beer.

The roast pork was absolutely fantastic. The dumplings and red cabbage were also incredibly delicious. Stefan was the server – very warm and friendly. I would definitely come back.

Luckily, we had booked well in advance; otherwise, we wouldn't have been able to get a table that evening. - The noise level was quite high, but I suppose that's to be expected in a restaurant of this size… 😉 We'd gladly come again.

What can I say? Florian's restaurant is an institution in Der Au and Munich. Over 30 years ago, he was one of the first to combine Bavarian flair with modern gastronomy without resorting to folksy clichés. The concept still works. Excellent staff and the owner's presence certainly contribute to its success. For many years, WidAu was our extended living room, and it's just as good this year and always worth a visit. Reservations are essential, as it's almost always fully booked.

Fantastic restaurant, well worth the short walk away from the city centre. The food is excellent, pictured is the Münchner Schweinebraten (Munich roast pork from the oven with crust, a big potato dumpling and bacon-coleslaw); everything is excellent, perfectly roasted pork, tasty dumpling, refreshing coleslaw, and perfect crackling. I hadn't reserved, but was seated (as a solo) very quickly on a Friday night with no issues. The staff spoke good English (🙏) and we're attentive. Relaxed atmosphere. Absolutely would go back, no doubt.

The place looks amazing yet the duck was a bit expensive for what it tasted. It was a bit overcooked and dry in my opinion. The staff was very attentive and the environment was cozy.

Unfortunately, a complete failure. The restaurant was loud and overcrowded. The service was unfriendly, and worst of all, the toilet. It reeked of urine right at the door, and then you have to pee in a trough on the floor... right on your shoes... A Spezi (a popular German soft drink) costs €5.50, and then you have a toilet like that... Even by Munich standards, it's an outrage.

I actually really like this restaurant. Good food, attentive service. Recently, however, I wanted to make a reservation for a large group for my birthday, which can only be done by email. After several days, I received an email confirming the reservation, which I replied to immediately. A few days later, I followed up again. Nothing. Eventually, I withdrew the request. Still no response. Until today. In the meantime, I've made a reservation at another restaurant. It's a shame, really.

Lovely place, good beer and very delicious food with some decent vegetarian options (I can only recommend the three different types of Knödel!). Staff was super friendly, a brief confusion about what our group ordered was resolved quickly and I don't blame them as it was packed to the brim even on a weekday night. The only thing that was a bit unpleasant was the noise level, due to how full it was and the layout of the place. But it was still great and I'd absolutely come back a second time!

The staff was very friendly, and the service was quick. Perhaps the food arrived a little too quickly? We received three hot main courses about five minutes after ordering. I wonder how fresh they could possibly be. Unfortunately, the dumplings were dry and tasteless, and the sauce was also bland. The salad was soggy and limp from too much dressing. The meat was good, although there wasn't much sauce. We also felt the prices were unreasonable. The restrooms smelled bad and weren't very clean. We won't be coming back, even though the restaurant seems very popular—it was packed.

The visit itself was good, but I expected more from the food for the price. -The Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle) were cooked more in a cheese sauce (not with cheese strands), which was quite unusual. -The trio of dumplings came in three small dishes, which was very inconvenient to eat. The dumplings themselves didn't have much flavor of their own and were very soft and delicate in texture, not at all "coarsely" prepared.

Fastest service ever! We've been to the Au restaurant several times, and unfortunately, this time it will probably be the last. We had made a reservation in advance, specifying that we wanted to sit on the gallery, which was confirmed. When we arrived, they knew nothing about it and wanted to seat us at one of the worst tables in the aisle, which we politely declined. Then we were shown to another table on the gallery (it wasn't full, as has been the case recently). And then everything happened incredibly fast: the server was already asking about drinks while I was still wearing my jacket and standing at the table. The unfortunately much too warm Zwickl beer was served immediately. And we were told to place our food order right away. Less than five minutes after ordering, our food arrived. It was completely lukewarm, the emulsion in the cheese dumpling had already separated from sitting under a salamander grill or something similar for too long, and the fat was floating on top. The hash was lukewarm, the beef dry and tough as leather, the sauce (again probably from being kept warm for ages) dried out. The fried onions were as dry and cold as pins. The coleslaw, on the other hand, was icy and rubbery. Simply awful. When asked if everything was alright, we said no, explaining that the food wasn't hot enough. "OK, thanks for the feedback"... and the waitress was gone. From reception to the bill (over €60.00, they even talked my wife into ordering a small salad, as they claimed we wouldn't be full from the dumpling trio otherwise...) exactly 42 minutes passed. Never again! They'll have to find other suckers willing to put up with this miserable service and bad cafeteria food – not us! What a shame about the lovely place...

Wonderful old inn, charmingly rustic. Only men in traditional lederhosen serve and wait on tables here. I enjoyed delicious Weisswurst with sweet mustard, and of course, dessert was a must. I recommend making a reservation 😁 I'll definitely be back on my next visit to Munich.

We arrived from Stuttgart, had no reservations but they gave us a lovely table. The food, especially the grilled beef steak, was terrific. Great service.
