We arrived from Stuttgart, had no reservations but they gave us a lovely table. The food, especially the grilled beef steak, was terrific. Great service.

Always, it's a bit loud. But you meet interesting people there.

My favourite restaurant in Munich, and yes way better than the Hofbrauhaus in my opinion. It’s authentic, friendly, high emphasis on customer service and the food is top shelf. It’s recommended to book ahead but I did see some walk in groups with no issues getting a table. The food here is well portioned and the best of what Munich has to offer, starting with the leberknodel soup was hearty, rustic and something like your grandma would make. The bergfex meal was the best meal I had in Munich, full of flavour and different senses going on from the pork fillet to the duck to the knodel and finally the delicious thick sauce. Lastly, I cannot give enough praise to the wait staff. The moment I walked in I was warmly welcomed and they were full of smiles. Always helpful to offer suggestions and explain what each dish was.

Super quaint inn. Life pulsates there. This is how I imagine a tavern in Bavaria. The service was super friendly. Drinks and food super quick, hot and, to my taste, super tasty. The pretzels were hot, the Obatzda was creamy and strong, the “Bergfex” was varied and tasty and the pistachio creme brulee with ice cream was a little bitter in combination with the ice cream and was also very tasty for me. Five of us were there late in the evening on Monday. Waiter Stefan introduced himself to us and was really quick and very friendly the whole evening. Since the starter took a little longer, we got a schnapps on the house - really nice, even though we saw how full it was and we would have waited like that. Bread, which was so delicious, was constantly brought in. We shared the tartare. Afterwards there was salad, sesame and cheese dumplings, and a creamy root vegetable stew. We had nothing to complain about. Beer was cold and the apple-woodruff lemonade was extremely tasty. Even the boss came by the table and asked if everything was okay. Will definitely recommend the restaurant!

The service was a dream. Because we were with a dog, we were offered a quiet place and our dog even got a small gift and water. The service was just super nice and attentive. The food was also a dream and came without a long wait. The next time we come back from Switzerland we will definitely come back.

After the exertion in the German Museum, stopping here in the restaurant (or rather in the beer garden beforehand) was just the right thing to do. Quiet, tasty, friendly and child-friendly. What more could you want? Not only the hearty, but also the Kaiserschmarn and the coffee with oat milk were very good. Gladly again!

A wonderful cosy place serving a range of tasty traditional German Bavarian dishes. Lots of atmosphere. A nice terrace with large trees offering shade. We visited it after spending time in the Deutsches Museum. It's very close and a perfect place to relax with food and a drink. The personnel members were very welcoming and super helpful, adding to a great experience for us. When brought our drinks we got some crispy bread and salad to share. It was so good we asked some more later on. We chose a variation of dishes: roasted pork, bratwurst both with tasty knödel. And a platter with a variety of small snacks and bites. Great experience and we will definitely come back when in the area. Highly recommend this place.

We arrived at the empty restaurant and they did not want to provide service because they were "full" and without a reservation there is no service. We went to their official website, which took us to OpenTable and there was space there, I made the reservation, arrived and showed it and in the same way they denied us service by making offensive comments and yelling. It is the second time something similar has happened.

Really rustic inn with a lot of charm in the middle of Munich. Was there for the first time and was not disappointed. The dumplings are really as good as everyone says - I had the ones with mushroom cream, simply brilliant. Portion was decent, but not excessive. The atmosphere was great, fully Bavarian, but not tacky. Service was quick and friendly, even when the store was full. Prices are fair for the city and the quality. If you like real Bavarian cuisine in a cozy atmosphere, this is the right place for you.

Atmosphere was also good and it was a good, loud but still pleasant atmosphere. But food could be better and more interesting. Nothing different than other Bavarian restaurants. There are also no cheese spaetzle for vegetarians, which is another negative point.

We ate pieces of meat and duck, the portions are large. The food was very delicious and the employees were very attentive. Even though we didn't have a reservation, they provided us with a table for a short time. We were very pleased with the children.

Really great traditional and tasteful interior design, delicious food, friendly cellars in traditional costume and a really funny tradition of congratulating birthday children with a cake and a bell when the whole restaurant sings along! We have been there for a sunday lunch, picking this place randomly. We were amazed by the atmosphere and the interior of the place, looking very typical and welcoming. The dishes were so tasty and delicious, with the food being so inviting. Also the staff was so friendly and welcoming, making you almost feel at home. For sure we will be back here as soon as we plan our next trip to Munich.

The atmosphere is typical of a Munich tavern, nice for a convivial evening. As for the food: We had both the dumpling trio and a combination of duck and roast pork. The food was okay, but nothing more. The dumplings were very doughy, the meat passable. However, the price was in no way commensurate with what was offered. Add to that the astronomical prices for beer, even for Munich in 2025 (€5.80 for a Helles?). Overall, in my opinion, I wouldn't recommend it, as the quality doesn't match the prices.

The cheese sparrows were bad. The menu says "refined with cream" but it was so hearty and swam in cream. The portion size for the price was also a joke. Unfortunately I don't have a photo, I would advise against the dish

This is one of the most traditional and best places for Bavarian traditional food, ambience and beer. A must go if you're visiting.

I wouldn't recommend the inn because they try to take money out of your pocket several times. It starts with ordering the drinks - we ordered two cola, the menu only showed 0.25l, then two 0.5l cola were brought. You can be surprised at the price at the end. As a starter we ordered "Two types of Kas (with pretzels)" - two pretzels came with it. I already suspected it and it happened - in the end they wanted to charge us for an additional pretzel that we didn't order. When I pointed this out to the waiter, he was very surprised and said "he just assumed we wanted two...".

A well-known establishment with traditional Bavarian cuisine. It is advisable to reserve a table in advance, otherwise there is a high probability that there will be no free seats. Fortunately, the establishment's website has a convenient online booking form. The interior is traditional for a Wirtshaus. The cuisine is varied, there is a classic breakfast menu with pretzels and sausages and individual famous dishes. We took soup, weisswurst and assorted meat and dumplings. Everything was delicious, the portions are good. The prices are slightly higher than the city average, but this is justified by the popularity of the establishment.

Wonderful atmosphere and excellent Bavarian dishes. We've eaten here before, very good food quality, however we were surprisingly insulted by our waiter at the end of the meal which will keep us from returning. We speak German and communicated with our waiter in German throughout the meal, but as we spoke English at our table with visiting family members, he arrogantly assumed we were whatever the typical European perspective of Americans is (apparently uncultured, gullible fools). After leaving a courtesy gratuity of 2€ -- above adequate tipping standards in EU -- as well as thanking him and stating how great the meal was, he condescendingly stated in German, "So if you thought the meal was so good why did you only leave such a small tip." After some unfriendly words exchanged as we exited, he returned the tip as if it actually mattered. Likewise, this individual is apparently the lead server on the staff...clearly you need to protect your pocketbook if you're a tourist regardless of German language level. Btw ..we are EU citizens...so the restaurant won't be able to explain away their insulting service culture at this otherwise enjoyable restaurant.

We have been living at Mariahilfplatz in Munich for over 25 years. Since then we have always enjoyed going to the Wirtshaus in der Au. Our favorite place is the corner at the bar. It is a place where locals, guests and newcomers meet and feel comfortable and start talking at the bar. Prices and quality are just right, upscale but not too expensive for the quality. Florian the boss is there practically every evening, greets his regular guests and looks after everyone else just as warmly. So if you're new in town or just a guest then take a look, you can't go wrong. The beer garden is also very nice. Of course, it is often very crowded and a reservation is recommended.

One of the many old and traditional Wirsthaus here in Munich. Specialising in Knödl you will be seriously impressed. Not only that you'll find an amazing breakfast that is a contender for the best in town.

We had dinner with the company in the evening and I can wholeheartedly recommend this inn! A great, high-quality selection of food and drinks (try the organic Kracherl lemonades!) as well as a great traditional atmosphere with good service. The coffee from the Traunstein roastery and the dessert variations are a dream.

Thomas was our bartender and server. He was very polite and helpful with recommendations from beer to food. Everything was delicious. Schweinebraten was delicious with a fantastic gravy. Wife got a Bullensteak perfectly cooked mid rare. Bernaise(?) that came with it was very tasty. Their own bier Auer Kraft Bier was quite good. They also will sell you a stein! This will be a nice one to my collection. We also did not have reservations, seemed very busy and popular and we really should have had them. We really appreciated them accommodating. Highly recommend if you are in the area.
