The food is fantastic. Bavarian cuisine with a twist and a touch of imagination. The ambiance is very tasteful! The service staff is cheerful, friendly, and efficient. Highly recommended.

I often go there with my family for special occasions (New Year's Eve, Christmas, birthdays, etc.). The visits are always very pleasant, and the food is excellent. We have two vegetarians with us, so the selection is naturally a bit smaller (I think there are four main courses), which is to be expected in a traditional inn and not a big deal, as all the dishes are delicious. However, during my last visit a few days ago, I noticed that the recipe for my absolute go-to dish (Käsespätzle 😋) seems to have been changed (a completely different cheese). Unfortunately, this was a big disappointment for me, as I didn't enjoy it that way anymore. It would be really great if they went back to the old recipe. 😅

We had the misfortune of getting a stressed server; otherwise, the food was great, the drinks were all okay, unfortunately there was no ginger ale even though it was on the menu. Then there was chaos when paying because we had to go into a side room to pay by card. There were eight of us, and in the end, we had €40 left over. Nobody could explain why.

Kaiserschmarrn to die for. Homemade and hand-scraped Käsespätzle. Quaint, cozy, efficient and very friendly service. Bavarian heaven redefined. Thank you so much for this culinary highlight!

This was my third visit, and each time I'm surprised by how excellent the food is. For me, everything is just right, from the big picture to the little details. For example, the side vegetables (like the ones served with the beef strips) are superb, the potato salad is homemade, and so on. I'm happy to pay the price for this quality, which is what you pay for dining out these days. I leave other restaurants with a completely different feeling. Here at the old innkeeper Forstenried, it's just right for me. The portions are generous, and the menu is well thought out. The service is quick, attentive, and friendly. All in all, top-notch!

Ordered Wiener Schnitzel with salad at 3:30 PM. Received the food at 3:45 PM. The food was truly a 10/10; the meat was very tender and delicious. I highly recommend it.

A typical Bavarian restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. Very attentive service and a fresh beer rounded off the visit perfectly. The food was of a good standard. Incidentally, it's one of the few restaurants where the entrance is actually level all the way to the restroom! Very wheelchair accessible!! Today's beef strips were absolutely fantastic.... That's why it's now five stars. Thank you for the great service.

SAD! Yesterday evening, Friday, around 5:30 p.m., after a long shift, I spontaneously dressed up to go out for dinner here with my 86-year-old mother, who uses a wheelchair. Since I knew from a previous visit that it's always very crowded, I went in alone after parking to have a look around. At the reservation desk, the young woman in charge said kindly, "No problem," they had something available, whereupon she showed me to a nice table and demonstrated that my mother could easily get in there with her wheelchair. I was pleased because we could have chatted comfortably at an angle, and my mother would have had a good view of the dining room. ... So I confirmed the spontaneous booking, unloaded the wheelchair, and "packed in" my excited mother, only to learn about 10 minutes later that the table was now reserved for someone else from 6:00 PM onwards... We could sit "over there" (at a very long table so close to the nearest one that my mother would have had to sit with her back to the main service area). I declined, pointing out that I had specifically asked... They asked to get "the manager," whereupon another young woman came over, who rather noncommittally stated that the table was reserved for 5 people from 6:00 PM onwards. When I objected that this was "not right," she snapped at me, saying I hadn't made a reservation and we could also take the table "back there next to the cash register" (which I politely declined, insisting on the table I had been promised). In a highly unfriendly manner, the woman then informed me that this table was unavailable; her staff had "simply forgotten to put up the reservation sign." I countered that this information was very late, that I had been promised this table, and that I had only then, with some difficulty, brought my mother along. After the woman, now with her hands on her hips, had informed me, even more rudely, that I hadn't made a reservation, I left the restaurant with my disappointed mother...

Good food in a traditional Bavarian restaurant

We held a company event in the upstairs dining room. Everything was absolutely perfect. We were greeted with an aperitif, and the service was always discreet yet attentive. Even last-minute changes to the three-course menu (three pre-ordered appetizers, three main courses, and three desserts) were accommodated. All the dishes were outstanding in both quality and presentation.

Friendly staff, excellent selection of dishes. The food is delicious and the portions are generous. The prices are reasonable for the quality. I'll definitely be back!

We ate there and were absolutely thrilled! The food was delicious – fresh, well-seasoned, and beautifully presented. The portions are really generous; no one will leave hungry! The waiters were incredibly friendly and attentive, and the restaurant is very nicely decorated. The only slight downside was the noise level, which meant we sometimes had to speak a little louder. Nevertheless, we would definitely come back! Highly recommended! 🍽️👏

Good Restaurant with Great food at a reasonable price

Three of us spontaneously popped in, very hungry. Despite being very busy (hot food served throughout lunch and the afternoon), we managed to get a spot. Very friendly and attentive service, even though they were extremely busy. Excellent food, prepared with a touch of imagination and extravagance, and presented in generous portions! If you show up on a Friday night with a reservation made by email 45 minutes in advance, you shouldn't expect to get a seat for four. 😀 But. Everything possible was done here to make it possible ❤️. Top-notch service Top-notch food Top-notch ambiance. We were on a three-country trip, ending in Munich. And it was one of the best restaurants of all.

One of the oldest restaurants in Bavaria.

We celebrated a birthday with almost 40 people in the ballroom on the first floor. Both the service and the food were excellent and received high praise from our guests. We had music and were able to make good use of the spacious room for dancing. A personal consultation took place beforehand, during which our wishes were discussed and great suggestions for implementation were made. We would definitely celebrate here again.

As a non-Bavarian, my impression is that Bavarian food at its best is served here. We've been here several times now, always received warm service, and were always very impressed with the food – especially the salads. The price-performance ratio is absolutely perfect. I think you can't go wrong with a pit stop here.

We were passing through and wanted to try some Kaiserschmarrn. We didn't stop there because there were so many appealing dishes on the menu. We opted for the grilled goat cheese instead. Both were incredibly delicious! We'll have to save the other treats for our next trip. The service was also super friendly 😊👍!

It was delicious, and most importantly, there were four adults and three children, and the price wasn't very high. The staff was very polite, and the food was served very quickly.

Unfortunately, our visit today wasn't so positive. The waitress mishandled three of our five orders and, after we complained, became quite surly. It was also very loud. The food, however, was good.

Great service and very good food at a reasonable price

A real inn, just as you'd imagine. The food is perfect and there's plenty of it.

Very cozy place, the food is delicious and the portions are large. On Friday at 6:00 PM the order was brought very quickly, but around 7:00 PM there are more people and the wait is a little longer. There is a fenced playground for children, so they don't get bored.

Slow food, really fast! We were looking for a beer garden after a day trip and found one here in Forstenried. A really friendly welcome. It was busy, but they immediately approached us and helped us find a free spot. We'd barely sat down before we placed our order. The food arrived super quickly. The taste was truly delicious, and the portions were generous. We'll definitely be back soon.

Very tasty food. And it arrived extremely quickly, about 5 minutes. The staff was also particularly friendly. A lovely playground with rabbits for the children in the garden.

Everything is superlative. Google Maps, this Restaurant should be at the top of your list in this region, for recommendations (my opinion).

We stopped at the Alter Wirt on a layover from the highway. I had the best salad I've had in a long time, with blueberries, pomegranate seeds, raspberry vinaigrette, and wonderfully marinated turkey flakes! My husband's meal was also excellent. The kids had several options to choose from upon request. Great sausages with sauerkraut! Homemade spaetzle with gravy! The service was very friendly, very quick, and asked several times if everything was okay. A very child-friendly atmosphere with a playground, a cozy beer garden, well-protected from the road. There's even parking behind the building. All in all, a wonderfully enjoyable stopover on the way home from our Bavarian vacation!

This is what a pub should be like. The service is genuinely friendly and quick, and special requests are made without hesitation. The portions are generous, and the food is simply delicious and fresh, as well as visually appealing. The 300ml Aperol was perfect, and you sit in comfortable armchairs rather than hard, rickety wooden ones. The only drawback is the street noise, but that's not the pub's fault. PL Topp👍

Very good food, the staff is very friendly and quick. Unfortunately, the outside area is often a bit noisy due to the intersection.

As a foreigner leaving in Munich since few years, it is quite easy to understand from my German that I’m not a local, and to exchange me for a tourist. I found what happened here unacceptable: the waiter charged me 12% of tip directly without asking, he showed only the final amount to pay, covering the details of the invoice, before paying with the card. I realized only after, when I asked to add the tip and he says it was already included…Never happened something like this in Munich, will never come here again. Update: I was contacted from the restaurant for the excuses, and after getting some more informations, they took actions against the waiter. This is the best reaction the restaurant owner could do. Thanks!

Unfortunately, we must have encountered an unfriendly waiter. The meat was very fatty twice. The burger was okay. Otherwise, a nice beer garden.

**THE BEST KAISERSCHMARRN I'VE EVER HAD** And the rest of the food was also excellent across the board!! Above average value for money. We were lucky to have a super friendly and extremely competent waiter who handled even difficult situations with great charm. Unfortunately, we were seated by a rather unfriendly lady – so maybe that's just luck. The ambiance is nice, too, but unfortunately quite noisy with the cars driving by on the street.

Very nice inn and very friendly staff.

The restaurant has maintained a consistently high standard for many years. The food is usually served quickly. The roast pork is good. The Bavarian schnitzel is even very good and a very large portion. One drawback is that you can only pay by card at the cash register. A lovely garden, unfortunately, right on the street.

Anyone who serves me a steak like this "au point" has already won my heart! Thank you! I'd be happy to serve it again!

We've been to the "Alten Wirt" several times and have never been disappointed! The food is absolutely delicious, whether it's schnitzel, oxtails, or cheese spaetzle. The service was always fast and friendly. We're already looking forward to our next visits :)

We went to the Alter Wirt for a family reunion today, and the Alter Wirt schnitzel is simply amazing. My wife had the Käsespätzle, which were also simply fantastic. Afterward, the affogato simply can't be topped. Anytime again!!! Best regards, Franz

We rented the upstairs room to have dinner and a celebration with our close family after the ceremony. There were four dishes to choose from, and all four were excellent. The service was quick and attentive. The best "gasthaus" in the area. We'll definitely be back ;)

Very good schnitzel and fresh beer

The place always looks great. I went there four weeks ago. I had the Brauhaus Steak, which was pork loin with bacon in a dark beer sauce, which was pretty good, I must say. The other dishes were a bit bland, like the Cordon Bleu and the Käsespätzle. Even though the Spätzle had mountain cheese in it, you could barely taste it. The service seemed very confused and unprofessional.

The food was delicious. A bit salty, which made us order more beer 🤷🏼😅. The service was very warm, friendly, and funny.

We've eaten here many times, and the food has always been excellent and typical Bavarian (the asparagus was delicious!). But unfortunately, the last time we came, the waiter in the restaurant was disrespectful when it came to paying and demanded a tip, saying that service wasn't included. All our local friends told us that tipping isn't mandatory, and that restaurants ask for it so directly is disrespectful. Lying to customers and saying their salary depends on it is also a lie; we're not in America. We're from Switzerland, and the system is the same. We're a bit disappointed because this is the fourth or fifth time we've come to Alter Wirt (and each time we've left a tip). Our German isn't perfect, and we were traveling with friends from elsewhere, and I think they mistook us for tourists (even though we live only 20 meters from the restaurant). This isn't the first time in Munich that a waiter has persistently asked for a tip.

Super delicious food. The asparagus and Wiener schnitzel were freshly prepared and very tasty. You do have to wait a bit for the Kaiserschmarrn, but it's all the fresher and more delicious. We'll definitely be back!

Here at the old inn, you can enjoy delicious food with a Bavarian atmosphere. The restaurant is decorated as you'd expect from a Bavarian restaurant. We were here on Easter Sunday, and it was packed. However, our food came pretty quickly. The menu has a lot to offer. It can take a while to choose, but there's something for every taste 😉 Our server was very friendly and really quick. We had the asparagus cream soup, beef soup, cordon bleu, duck, ox shreds, apple strudel, and more. We felt like we ate our way through the menu and were very impressed with the taste 👍. We all enjoyed it very much. Price-wise, you can't complain at all. The value for money is excellent. We'd love to come back. When the weather's nice, and even on weekends, it's really busy here. Finding a parking space can be tricky 😉

A very nice restaurant. The food was very good and the service very friendly and competent. What I didn't like was that there were large dogs in the restaurant, and the seating was very close together. I have an animal allergy, so it's best to ask in advance if there are any potential problems.

Today I was at the "Alter Wirt" restaurant. I had a very nice evening there. The service was truly excellent. My server was very friendly and attentive. He served me quickly. I felt very welcome. The food was also very good. The chef did a really great job. I had a cream of asparagus soup and a turkey salad. Both dishes were delicious and freshly prepared. The meat was perfectly cooked, and the vegetables still had a bite. The presentation of the plates was also very nice. The atmosphere in the restaurant was cozy and relaxed. I highly recommend the "Alter Wirt." If you're looking for a pleasant evening with good food and friendly service, this is the place for you. I'd be happy to come back!

Good plain food and large portions. An extensive menu that fulfills many wishes. The beer garden is on the main street, which is busier when the weather is good. A bus stop is right in front of the restaurant. The employees are friendly, accommodating.

Family dinner for grandma's birthday: The atmosphere is very cozy, Bavarian but not old-fashioned or overloaded, very well maintained and clean. The staff was authentic, super friendly and attentive. The food came promptly and was beautifully presented. The portions were very generous. Everything was prepared on site, fresh and delicately seasoned so that all guests were thrilled. Therefore an unconditional recommendation!

The ambience inside leaves a lot to be desired in a tavern that looks typically Bavarian from the outside. Comfortable looks different. We were offered a bar table to drink coffee, even though there were enough tables available. The waitress didn't understand our order in Bavarian dialect and ultimately, upon request, we were served two small portions of milk in an extremely theatrical manner.

We ate today in the Altes Wirt with 50 people. Everything was really beautifully prepared. The conditions were super friendly. We had such a great evening remembering a loved one. Dear team, thank you very much for making this possible for us. And the food was excellent.

Authentic Baverian pub/restaurant. The staff are wearing traditional Lederhosen/Drindls with great friendly service. The menu has a large selection of local meals, and the staff will translate if need be. Really cost, and great gathering place for small groups, and the local beer is excellent. I would highly recommended a visit to get that Munich experience.
