Always delicious, always good! Always great staff, and the atmosphere invites you to linger. The beer from Altomünster is especially good, especially the Pilsner 👍👍👍 Addendum from August 13, 2025 I've always been a fan of Hohenwart! Ambience, comfort, staff, location... everything was top-notch! I haven't been there in a long time, but just went back on Wednesday. Ordered a Swabian pot for a whopping €27!!! I asked beforehand if the cheese spaetzle came with cream (because cream doesn't belong in it). I was told there was no cream. When the dish was served, the cream (curdled by the heat) was immediately visible. They were just tasteless lumps of dough with a creamy taste... I even doubt there was any cheese in them at all... Zero cheese taste... no cheese threads (as it should be...) The two pieces of pork were okay, but the sauce was sparse and lacked flavor, and the gray, mushy mushrooms looked like canned mushrooms... and for 27 euros... I'm really disappointed!!! The nice waitress was really sorry about that and invited me for a beer... A day later, we were at Anton's 300 meters away... and there, a chef from "Sri Lanka" showed us how to make cheese spatulas properly (although, even after we asked for them, without cream). And their price level is much more appealing... What a shame... I hope the other meals at Hohenwart are still good... If you just want a drink there, it's still very nice.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the Hohenwart Inn if you are dependent on a gluten-free diet. On May 1, 2025, despite repeated reassurances, explicit emphasis when ordering, and questions, I was apparently served a Hohenwart Pfandl (a gluten-containing pan) or beer – which, given my celiac disease, caused severe health problems. I subsequently wrote a detailed email, and the owner initially responded with understanding and apologies. He even offered compensation, which I was very pleased about. Unfortunately, my response remained unanswered – despite my open and constructive feedback. The restaurant may be fine for guests without intolerances. However, anyone who relies on gluten-free food for health reasons should be cautious.

We sat outside in beautiful weather and were thoroughly satisfied. The service was very friendly and attentive, and the food and drinks were excellent. One point deducted is the very high prices for the food; they're excessive even by Munich standards, and there's hardly anything that doesn't cost close to €20. This is probably another reason for me not to return, even though the rest of the experience was very positive.

A cozy inn with a good menu for everyone. Located in a quiet corner on the border of Obergiesing and Obere Au. An up-and-coming neighborhood for beautiful, cozy, and modern inns. Hohenwart is certainly one of them.

The place was packed, but they still had a seat for me. A reservation is probably recommended if you're dining with a group. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't good enough for outside dining. I had the impression that there were significantly more locals than tourists (like me) at the tables. The ambiance is what you'd expect from a typical (real) Munich restaurant: lots of wood and not much fancy. The food took a while, but I enjoyed it. The menu also offers something for vegetarians. I had the celery schnitzel. Instead of the usual fries, there were fried potato slices with chips – really delicious. The side salad was appetizingly presented and tasted just as good. Beer is, of course, a matter of taste: I found the non-alcoholic lager really tasty. The Hohenwart is within walking distance of the Motel One on Tegernsee Straße. In my opinion, it's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

While visiting from Canada, we found this restaurant next to the residence where my grandmother now lives. It was actually she who suggested it to us. I found the server very friendly, the food good and the portions very generous, and finally, the atmosphere pleasant. I will try to return. It's truly a little gem in Munich.

Three fingers below the calibration mark, and even after refilling, it barely rose any further. No matter how good the beer is, I'm sensitive about things like this: 1 star.

Stefan was the best host. The food and service were outstanding. A definite recommendation, away from the tourist restaurants. A first-choice option for a regulars' table. He had witty sayings and loved his job. Very hospitable.

I visited this Bavarian inn with friends and we felt completely at home. The typical Bavarian dishes were truly delicious – from the crispy roast pork to the Kaiserschmarren, everything was perfectly prepared and lovingly presented. The ambiance is rustic and authentically Bavarian, with lots of wood, traditional details, and a cozy atmosphere. What's especially nice is that you can sit both inside and outside – a real plus in the summer! Despite the packed house, we were able to have a great conversation – it was lively but not too loud. In summary: A fantastic inn with good food, a cozy atmosphere, and space for a relaxed evening with friends. We'd love to come back!

Great traditional German food. It was our first night in Munich and walking distance from the home we were staying at. On recommendation from our host, we went there and it did not disappoint. It’s got a charming ambiance with a quiet neighborhood feel to it. Recommend for a family dinner if you find yourself in the area.

The menu features classic Bavarian cuisine, taking into account dietary restrictions and preferences (e.g., gluten-free) – which is particularly pleasing! In addition to the selection, the quality of the dishes is also positively noteworthy – the roast pork was tender inside with a crispy crust, a dream! The Kaiserschmarren (sweet pancake) for dessert is also a definite recommendation. The crowning glory, however, is the service – fast, friendly, attentive, and, above all, a great team. This is how you bring Bavarian pub culture into the 21st century without leaving its roots behind. We'd love to come back!

I really enjoyed that they balance the vibe of a traditional Wirtshaus with modern food options - plenty of options for those looking for something gluten free and/or vegetarian. Service wasn’t very attentive, but the food made up for the experience.

We stumbled across this restaurant a while ago through our voucher booklet. The food, the service, and the billing were all perfect! Many gluten free options! My fiancé has celiac and had no issues. She had the snitzel but I recommend the oven fresh roast pork. It was the best meal I had in Germany while I was there. See photos for the translated English menu I created.

The portions were very small, and we weren't full, which we think is difficult given the prices. The taste was good. The service was friendly. We probably won't be coming back, though.

Some good gluten-free dishes can be found directly on the menu. The staff is very courteous and knowledgeable and will ask for details. Children's meals were not on the menu. But we were told right at the beginning which ones were available. The Wiener-style schnitzel with fries was also gluten-free. Very tasty, friendly service and a nice sunny spot outside. We will definitely come again.

I've been to the Hohenwart many times - the food is really excellent, and the atmosphere is exactly what you want in a Bavarian restaurant: cozy, authentic, simply harmonious. What I always find strange, however, is that all the male service employees who have served me so far seem to have a strange relationship with alcohol. Every single time I order a non-alcoholic beer, I get a comment like: “All right, a children’s beer!” or “That’s not beer!”. One of the servers even repeated this comment across all three non-alcoholic beers I ordered in one evening. I never found these sayings funny. On the contrary - they create an unpleasant atmosphere every time. There are many legitimate reasons not to drink alcohol: whether for health or religious reasons, as part of a lifestyle, or perhaps because someone is currently struggling with alcohol. In all of these cases, such comments can seem condescending, insensitive or simply invasive. I would like the service staff here to show more sensitivity and respect when someone makes a non-alcoholic choice - without any snarky comments.

Modernly furnished inn with really tasty, gluten-free food. Onion roast and roast pork are highly recommended. Rarely have I eaten such tender roast pork. We'll be back. Service very quick and friendly. Gluten free beer also available.

Highly recommended as a birthday/event location! We rented the separate room with a bowling alley. With 30 people we had more than enough space. The food is of the highest quality (we chose snack boards) and the service is super friendly and accommodating (we were served by Franzi and Stefan). Communication in advance was easy and helpful. Hmmm. I'm a bit undecided. There were two of us there, there's nothing wrong with the Bavarian-oriented food - there are also vegan and vegetarian dishes - it's fine. The service is also friendly. It still wasn't the right place for us; we had something to discuss and an appointment to prepare. But unfortunately there are a) no small tables and b) it was very loud in the restaurant on a Monday evening. Which was of course due to other guests, but perhaps also due to a lack of sound insulation. Well, that's a shame. We ate: (Roast pork and Hohenwart Pfandl, both very generous, €17.50 and €18.90, Zweigelt 0.2 L €7.70, wine spritzer €5.50, chocolate cake €8.90, everything completely okay). After dinner we quickly said goodbye and continued talking in a quieter environment.

Absolutely fantastic! The Kaiserschmarrn was divinely delicious. Unfortunately, the fish (2 pieces) in the fish and chips menu seemed a bit underdone compared to the neighboring table.

Food is very good. Service has always been friendly so far. But price performance can be better. In 2025, roast pork here will cost 17.50, which is really expensive in comparison. The interiors are a bit too dark for our taste.

I celebrated my birthday here by first playing bowling and then eating and drinking there. The phone calls in advance were extremely nice and accommodating. It was exactly the same on site. The service throughout the evening was a 10/10! We felt extremely comfortable and had a wonderful day in the Hohenwart. The ambience is great and the drinks menu had some more unusual options, which I really liked. It was also absolutely brilliant for us that you could order a beer keg and a sumptuous snack when you went bowling. Gladly again!

A very nice old restaurant in Munich that has retained its charm. I found the bowling alley directly adjacent to the dining room to be brilliant. The veal schnitzel was good, but given the price and the pictures advertised online, I would have expected a larger portion. Potato salad was far too little, after I asked for more, it was quite natural for the waitress to bring me one and not charge for it. Maybe it was because we were very late and the kitchen was already closing! But everything is fine and happy again.

We were working for a week in Giesing and ate here 4 times out of the 6 nights we were here. Highly recommended, the food is excellent. Modern Bavarian with some classics from across Europe as well (fish and chips!). I'm a bit of a food snob and couldn't imagine eating anywhere more than for a couple of nights but this was just excellent. Staff are very friendly as well. Next time I'm back in Munich I'll make a point of coming out here no matter where I am staying. Drinks also on point! 👍

A tavern in the city that I haven't seen in a long time. The bowling alley is still in operation here, there is a lot of carving going on, admittedly a bit loud but everyone is having a good time - a joy. The service was super friendly and quick. The food was great, there's nothing to complain about. Have fun bowling together. Really great. Be sure to reserve a bowling alley.

Local restaurant in Munich, with a very traditional atmosphere. Very German (which is why we were there, of course). However, they do have English menus, and our server did speak English, so don't be intimidated to visit. We were seated at a communal table, which made it even more of an experience, our table mates were very friendly. Food was excellent, and they did have vegan and veggie options, but also had many traditional German dishes (schnitzel, etc.). Good portions as well. Solid beer selection. Prices were reasonable for the area, but keep in mind, this is a sit down restaurant, so don't expect fast food prices (there's a McD's around somewhere if that's your thing). Parking in general in Munich is challenging, so expect to search for street parking if you're driving here. I highly recommend a visit if you're hungry, want a good meal, and are looking for a quaint place to enjoy it.

The Hohenwart has given itself a makeover when it comes to the menu. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is still rustic and cozy. An absolute gem in the neighborhood.

The food is good, the beer is also tasty, and overall the inn has a really good ambience. The service today was really subpar. Our waitress rarely came to the table, and when she did, she was very unfriendly. Last order a whopping hour before they close. What's that supposed to mean? It's a shame, it could have been a nice evening, but unfortunately it wasn't.
