Weltenburger am Dom in Regensburg

The food was very good, but the vaulted adjoining room was very, very loud. You couldn't really understand your neighbors. It was better outside in the large hall.

There were two of us and we had made a reservation in advance, which was a good thing given the restaurant's capacity. However, several guests arrived after us without reservations and still managed to get tables. The small salad for €5 was very large and delicious, and absolutely sufficient as a starter. The main course consisted of a knuckle of pork and schnitzel, along with a house bock beer and a Spritz. We received very good service and were repeatedly asked about our well-being and any other requests. The atmosphere was good, and everything was very harmonious. We would recommend this restaurant if you want to enjoy a lovely Bavarian evening with delicious beer.

Beautiful beer garden and interior with good, modern Bavarian cuisine. The delicious and creative, as well as beautifully presented, vegan dishes are particularly noteworthy; the cabbage rolls are particularly delicious! In my opinion, this is currently the best vegetarian/vegan selection in any beer garden/restaurant in Regensburg. It's great to see how a beer garden here is keeping up with the times—there's something for everyone here.

Friendly service, excellent food, and a pleasant atmosphere. The portions were very generous, and the quality was also very reasonable! The children's menu was very affordable! The children's portion was definitely large enough, even for older children. Reservations are recommended.

Really bad. The restaurant was about 30% full. We still waited for about 30 minutes, and no one came to ask for our order. Even though many waiters walked past us, they might have thought we were foreigners and didn't have enough money to pay for the food. Besides, I own a bigger restaurant than them and never treat my customers like that!!!

The food is simply fantastic. There's a good selection, both in terms of food and drinks. The staff is friendly and brings the drinks promptly. The location is in a vaulted cellar. While it's really pretty and historically interesting, because the restaurant is so popular, it's packed to the last table. And these small rooms amplify the sound so much that it's almost impossible to have a conversation. Therefore, it's only recommended to a limited extent for sensitive people. Hence, this one point deduction for the ambience. Overall, the restaurant is highly recommended.

The restaurant is located in the heart of the historic center, in a historic building that occupies part of the former Herzogshof (Duke's Palace). It has several rooms, with well-separated tables, and the service is very attentive. The children's menu includes coloring pages on the back, along with a small box of colored pencils. Vegetarian and vegan options are available. Reservations are available (and convenient) online. A great opportunity to try beautifully presented Bavarian specialties, including käsespätzle, bock beer schnitzel, and more. The beer is from the neighboring Weltenburger Cloister, one of the oldest in Germany (13th century). There is private parking nearby, approximately 200 m away.

We would go out of our way to visit Regensburg, just to eat at Weltenburger am Dom again and try more of the beers. Photos show Schweinshaxe, Schnitzel and some of the range of beers. I particularly recommend the Anno 1050.

Lunch at Weltenburger am Dom was a delight from start to finish. Located right next to the cathedral, the place combines the warmth of traditional taverns with a passion for good food. The service? Efficient, attentive and friendly, with a very nice waitress who made us feel at home. This is a restaurant where you don't have to check the clock too much. Good food takes its time. We tried the Bockbier-Schnitzel, a wonder of crispy breading with Brezn, homemade sweet mustard and an Asam-Bockbier beer sauce that rounded off the whole with a soft note. The fried onion shavings and laminated potatoes made every bite a feast. Another star dish was the Zwiebelrostbraten: a tender and tasty beef tenderloin, cooked to the perfect doneness, with oven-browned potatoes and pieces of bacon and braised onion that added sweetness and depth. All tied with the unmistakable dark beer sauce of the monastery, which makes the experience almost spiritual. And for dessert… freshly made Austrian cottage cheese pancakes, served on almost red-hot cast iron silverware (Topfenpalatschinken) with hazelnut cream and walnuts — a sweet embrace on the palate. And the surprising pumpkin ice cream with seed oil and salted caramel: fresh, creamy, delicate, with candied pumpkin seeds! All in all very balanced. A delicious surprise. The dark Weltenburger beer, considered the oldest monastic beer in the world (since 1050!), smooth and silky, was the best table companion. Bavarian cuisine with soul, flavor and professionalism. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to taste the best of Regensburg with a smile and a good sip of liquid history.

Very nice ambiance, especially in the courtyard with a great beer garden. The food was delicious, but the service could be improved: relatively long waits for ordering and food, and we were first served the wrong food, and then, after a longer wait, the correct one. The waitress apologized nicely, though, as it happens. So, we still recommend it, and we would come back!

Highly recommended! Be sure to reserve a table early. We've rarely had such good and plentiful food! Children are also welcome, with a special children's menu with markers for drawing. The children's requests for "just schnitzel" and "schnitzel with dumplings" were perfectly fulfilled. And the dessert was absolutely dreamy! THANK YOU

Salat mit Hühnchen: der Salat war alt und verfallen und das Huhn aufgewärmt, geschmacksneutral und auch mit Salz und Pfeffer in keiner Weise zu verbessern. Schweinelende mit Pilzen: die Pilze wurden völlig ohne Aroma in einer geschmacksneutralen Mehlpampe serviert, die Knödel trocken, alt und hart, das Schweinelendchen so lala. My first visit to the inn – a great experience! Today I visited the inn with my family for the first time. I was totally surprised – the service was super friendly! The waitress was very nicely dressed, and all the other employees were also extremely polite and clean. That's exactly what makes a good business culture. I immediately noticed that the server was very prompt, had a sympathetic ear for us, and also had a very tidy manner, which is unfortunately rare. Thank you very much! We didn't have to wait long, and she was always helpful. Ordering was quick, and we were able to easily choose what we liked from the menu. She also gave good recommendations. The cuisine was first-class – the food was beautifully presented, almost like in a Michelin-starred restaurant, and it tasted excellent. Because of the entire team, I can only recommend that anyone in Regensburg pay a visit to this inn. The well-groomed appearance of the staff, the cleanliness, and the hospitality demonstrate how beautiful Bavarian culture is. The beer was also excellent – from wheat beer to lager, there was something for every taste. Many thanks to the entire team, and especially to the waitresses who looked after us so well today. Without them, we wouldn't have had such a wonderful evening! 😊😌 A little tip: if the alcohol is too much for you, there are also non-alcoholic beers.

Not exactly cheap, but one of the best schnitzels I've ever eaten. It's also exceptionally well-made with sweet mustard under the pretzel coating. Definitely worth every euro.

After a long break, we were back at the Weltenburger am Dom with guests. Beautiful garden, friendly service, but the value for money is completely out of the question. Almost 40 euros for a roast beef with onions and a mountain of really awful pre-made onions and potatoes that couldn't even be considered fried potatoes (lukewarm, greasy, barely any color). The included, overly salty, ready-made gravy was actually needed to make the dish a bit juicier – horrible! The roast pork also had a lot of room for improvement, and the Bockbier schnitzel has been mentioned several times in the reviews. "We take the criticism seriously..." When?? The beer is possibly the most expensive in Regensburg... It's a shame that the Weltenburger joins the ranks of Regensburg's restaurants with undesirable Bavarian cuisine. Apparently, it's enough for tourists... There was a time when one could justifiably claim that there were no "tourist traps" in the city's restaurants. Unfortunately, that has changed dramatically! Dear restaurateurs, don't let this get to you. Work to ensure that Regensburg's culinary offerings can compete with the beauty of the city!

Absolutely perfect setting. The outdoor seating area is hard to find. You go in through a hotel lobby and the restaurant is out back. They have typical large table, multi-party tables as well as some 2- abd 4-tops. We were lucky to squeeze in at 8PM. But for 2 we got one of the small table. The Anno 1050 beer was great. As was the server's suggestion of a white wine. Turkey schnitzel was awesome.

Perfect place to grab an authentic German meal to accompany a local brew crafted by monks. Absolutely delicious with English and local menus. A must when visiting Regensburg, a true hidden gem of a town.

Historic restaurant with down-to-earth dishes.

We went to the beautiful beer garden on a Saturday evening. Overall, the food was solid. The staff were very friendly. The only small disappointment was that we ordered a cheese dumpling soup as a starter. At first they said they were sold out, but then, surprisingly, another portion arrived. The strange, dark-brown broth tasted like a salty mixture of water, broth powder, and Maggi. It was probably just a quick throw-together to sell the last dumplings; the meat soup was all gone. A bit disappointing for a renowned restaurant. And don't tell me otherwise; I'm an expert and have been in the kitchen myself for 39 years. I know all the tricks of the trade and might have done the same thing someday. Just a bit more skillfully. Nevertheless, I would recommend your restaurant anytime.

Both the beer garden and the inn itself are always lovely. The food is hearty and excellent. The beer is especially delicious during Advent. The staff are always very friendly, and it's always a pleasure to come here! The Bockbierschnitzel is highly recommended!

Con il caldo soffocante del 2 luglio troviamo questa birreria con un gradevole giardino all'interno di un ex convento ora albergo. Servizio buono ma decisamente lento, per un piatto e un dessert un ora e un quarto, ma con oltre 100-150 commensali solo 4 bravi/e camerieri/e volenterosi/e erano in evidente difficoltà. Presa la classica cotoletta, buona e ben condita con patate cipolle grigliate e salsa di senape + una porzione di pesce siluro. Conto, in coppia, 91 euro.

The Weltenburger am Dom was simply perfect for us, especially after a long journey. We ordered the Bockbier schnitzel, the salmon with potato salad, and three beers. Everything, absolutely everything, was delicious! I had to think about when I last had such a delicious schnitzel with a perfectly tasty Bockbier sauce. When we arrived, we were told we could eat without any problems. Unfortunately, we then had to wait 10 minutes for a waiter. The waiter initially only took our drinks. Fifteen minutes later, when we received our drinks, our food was served. Five minutes later, we were told that the kitchen was closed and our food would no longer be prepared. It was a real shame. The waiter was also very rude and not particularly helpful.

Unfortunately, a disappointing visit to Weltenburger am Dom. We had to wait a very long time for our food and even for our drinks. The waiters seemed clearly overwhelmed and stressed, which was reflected in the service. When the food finally arrived, it was unfortunately too salty and of a quality far below what you would expect for these prices. Overall, the value for money here is not at all good – we really wonder what you're paying so much for. It's a shame, because the location is actually very nice.

As Regensburg residents, we're naturally familiar with the Weltenburger am Dom restaurant – but as vegans, we've unfortunately never been drawn to it. We're all the more delighted that they now offer truly delicious, creative vegan dishes that are perfectly suited to a Bavarian tavern! The quiet, shady beer garden is a real highlight in the heart of the old town, and the service was super friendly and fast. The kohlrabi carpaccio, the baked cauliflower on nut puree, and the cabbage roll on swede puree not only tasted great but were also beautifully presented. The portions were just right – finally, full and satisfied without meat – and the value for money was excellent. A definite recommendation for us – we'll be back! 🌱🍽️💚

Unfortunately, the food was rather disappointing given the prices. By 7 p.m., the ham hocks were out. The schnitzel was bone dry—it consisted of 10% meat and 90% breading. The fried potatoes were shriveled, soggy slices. To hide the misery, almost every dish had a huge pile of greasy fried onions on top. The ambiance is hearty—for me, besides the soup as an appetizer, the only positive thing about my experience at Weltenburger.
