Incredibly cozy atmosphere, extremely fast and friendly service, and very good prices. Plus, the food is really delicious!

The food was delicious, arrived quickly, and was replenished promptly. The only downside was that the chalet was cramped.

Friendly staff. The pancakes are always great, especially with a cup of coffee and oat milk. As always, a perfect lunch break after a long walk!

There were four of us, and we had cheese fondue (€28 per person) plus drinks. The cheese was generally good, and it's a cozy option for sharing. However, the side dishes seemed a bit meager and rather bread- and potato-heavy, with little variety in vegetables or dipping options. For the total price (€168.60 excluding tip), we would have expected a more generous and balanced selection of side dishes. My tip: If you'd like to order cheese fondue, it's best to ask beforehand exactly what side dishes/garnishes are included.

Everything was great, the portions were just a bit small considering the price. However, they also offered some dishes you don't usually find in other restaurants, like the venison, which was delicious. And at the end, they even gave us something to soothe a bad case of the creeps. Sincerely,

A hidden gem even back in the 1980s. At that time, it was more of a meeting place for us students. Cooking was done on a wood-burning stove back then. It's lovely that the restaurant has been carefully renovated and that photos show the former landlady. The delicious pancakes are still worth a visit! In winter, it's especially cozy when you arrive trudging through the snow and see the lights in the forest... From the parking lot, it's about a 300-meter uphill walk. Access to the restaurant is permitted for people with disabilities. The staff is very friendly! Update January 4, 2026: As always, the service was very accommodating, the pancakes were delicious, and the pancake soup is also highly recommended! My 3-year-old grandson was treated very kindly. The espresso deserves special mention: it's simply perfect! The cup was pre-warmed. A well-rounded flavor, perfect crema! I'm looking forward to my next visit!

The ambiance is truly wonderful and inviting. Parking is available about 400 meters away. The only drawback was that during a sudden snowfall, getting out safely, especially with oncoming traffic, was quite an adventure. Overall, highly recommended!

The restaurant is somewhat hidden in the woods. At first, we weren't sure where we'd ended up. However, we received a very warm welcome and the food was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended!

We thoroughly enjoyed our last evening in the Black Forest at the St. Valentin forest restaurant. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was unique.

A wonderful way to end the day. First, we hiked across the Kybfelsen rock formation through wind and weather, then warmed up in St. Valentin's arbor with delicious food and drink.

We went there for fondue this evening. The ambiance would be lovely if the place weren't so overcrowded. It was impossible to get up from the table without disturbing other guests. After two hours, we were asked to leave because the next guests were waiting. That's unacceptable! After all, we had reserved a table for fondue to celebrate a birthday. At this price point, we shouldn't be treated like this.

The best restaurant in Freiburg! We visited in August, and the place is spectacular, as is the food, the attention, and the service. They were incredibly kind to us, even without a reservation. They made room for us in this magnificent restaurant, and we enjoyed a wonderful dinner—everything was delicious! Thank you, Yves, and the whole team!

We were a large group at the St. Valentin Restaurant in Freiburg and were absolutely thrilled! The service was top-notch – incredibly friendly, attentive, and quick. The chalet's ambiance is simply stunning and very cozy. A special treat: we were allowed to put up birthday decorations, which added a personal touch to the evening. All the dishes were excellent – ​​delicious and of high quality. The value for money was also perfect. Everyone loved it, especially the birthday person, of course. A huge thank you to the entire team – we felt very welcome and will definitely be back!

The price/performance ratio was good 👍. I highly recommend it – be sure to make a reservation ☝️ Today, October 23, 2025, is our second visit there... still positive, see above.

I come to this beautiful forest restaurant very often. Whether I'm stopping off on my own during a hike, with my children as a day trip, or as a very special restaurant for a meal for two: the staff is incredibly friendly. The food is not only a feast for the eyes. And the seats in the glass-fronted hut are truly a very special place at dusk. (By the way, the food is also very popular with several daycare centers in the area.) Thank you for this beautiful and delicious place. By the way: are your wine glasses also available for purchase?

If a free drink is offered, it should work well. Since the restaurant's own network wasn't working, you first had to ask for Wi-Fi. Then the staff, annoyed, mentioned it. Something like that could be right there on the sign. After much back and forth, you then had to rate the service on Google to get a water. So, a rating before you've even gotten to know the staff's service. I then declined this wonderful free water. The famous pancake tasted good, but was almost cold. It was then supposed to be reheated in the microwave, which I declined! The empty plates sat on our table for ages, and eye contact with the waiter to order or ultimately pay was almost impossible. When the waiter then asked if everything was okay and I tried to politely explain what wasn't going so well, he kept looking away and didn't really listen. When I pointed out that the free drink wasn't working so well either and recommended offering Wi-Fi directly to get reception, he responded very cheekily: "You don't have to do that." It's a shame that what was once such a cozy restaurant has become stressful and unfriendly.

Beautiful location in the middle of the Black Forest. It's a bit of a walk to get there, but it's worth it. Very generous and tasty portions, good value.

After a wonderful ride on our mountain bikes, we were greeted by two super friendly waitresses! The food was delicious, and even though the terrace was closed due to rain, our request was granted and we were able to sit on the romantic terrace!

Even the path/climb to the inn puts us in the mood to unwind. A short walk through the forest leads directly to the Gadthof. Although we were short on time, we were warmly welcomed. Instead of the arbor (very nicely done), we moved to the beer garden, where the temperature was pleasant and the sun was shining. It was steak day, and the tender Iberico steak with its delicate rosemary flavor and a huge salad plate (I love salad) was a delight for both of us. We'll be back – on our next visit to Freiburg – best wishes.
