Waldrestaurant St. Valentin in Freiburg im Breisgau

A visit to the St. Valentin forest restaurant is always an absolute highlight. The food is incredibly delicious (as a starter I can warmly recommend the gamba pot or, in winter, the lamb's lettuce). As a main course there are delicious stakes that are always fried to perfection, simply delicious. Everything is accompanied by outstanding service, always fast, highly competent and they can also give questions and recommendations from the wine cellar!!

For us, the fun starts with the hike. Start from Wiehre train station. After about 3.5 kilometers you have reached your destination. Our favorite place is in the arbor. The first 5 stars are for the ambience. We are then greeted with a smile and served quickly. This is what the next 5 stars are for. After the chocolate volcano at the latest, the food gets the next 5 stars. In short it is our favorite restaurant.

There aren't many places where you can have a rustic meal in the middle of the forest.

The food was great and the atmosphere was really nice! I definitely recommend reserving a spot in the annex, it's really lovingly furnished!

A great forest restaurant not far from Freiburg. We have been here countless times, summer and winter. Easily accessible on foot from the Wiehre or Günterstal, but also by car and then a 5-minute walk from the parking lot. Finally we sat in the cozy, covered and newly designed arbor, beautifully lit and furnished with blankets. The staff is super nice and the menu is varied. The many pancake variations or the mushroom pan for vegetarians are highly recommended. The price-performance ratio is good and the ambience in the middle of the forest is truly indescribable. Don't miss out on listening to the crickets and marveling at the fireflies on your way home in the dark in summer, or walking downstairs with torches in winter. We are already looking forward to the next time!

The food is absolutely delicious and so awesome. I particularly liked the veal liver. Meanwhile, my own liver is happy about the excellent wines and freshly tapped beers. The culinary expertise of the service chef, who took me into the world of enjoyment and comfort, is impressive. Thanks for that! I'm looking forward to next time!

The staff is friendly and there is a small selection of vegan dishes.

Always worth a trip all year round. In the cold season, the building that is several centuries old is the tip and not the arbor next door, which should be taken into account when making a reservation. The food is always great and the service is friendly and attentive.

Ambiance is not my thing. Very dark inside, a bit dull outside. Very friendly staff and very good food. It would be cool for children to play a little something (except for the incomplete card games). A slide would be great on a slope. But maybe there aren't enough small visitors who would take advantage of it.

On the way back from vacation, we spontaneously went to the Waldrestaurant St. Valentin on a Wednesday and we really enjoyed it! Coincidentally, it was steak night and the restaurant was almost full! Luckily we got the last table for two. About the ambience: If you have to cover the 300m from the parking lot in the pitch black, then it's better to use a flashlight. It's very dark! Perhaps subtle lighting along the way would help here. Once you've done that, you'll eventually be greeted by beautiful fairy lights outside. I would love to experience a Christmas market here :) we felt like mulled wine. The outdoor area is definitely nice to stop by on warm days. The interior is divided into a heated winter garden and the old dining room, which still retains the “old” feel, but overall it looks as if the next generation had come here to further develop this beautiful place without redoing everything. We like this very much! To eat: We ordered a beef fillet steak and cheese spaetzle. The spaetzle came with a really large “side” salad. The steak came with a side dish and a sauce of your choice. Both were really tasty. In a direct comparison, however, the cheese spaetzle wouldn't stand a chance against the fillet steak :) It was so tender! Just order steak on Wednesday evening! We drank various beers on tap. I found the naturally cloudy light beer very tasty. We also had dessert! We liked it too, but it wasn't particularly special. There was a mousse au chocolat outside the normal menu, which we also ordered. There was no mention of speculoos or white or dark chocolate in the mousse. But that is the only criticism we can make. The price-performance ratio is definitely right here! For three 0.5l draft beers, 200g fillet steak and spaetzle as well as two desserts we will pay around €70 plus tip. A great price, in my opinion! It's great that this restaurant exists! It's definitely worth a visit. If we're in Freiburg again, we'll come by again! 😊

We came to Freiburg on the way back from our vacation in Spain and were looking for a restaurant with typical cuisine. Since we were traveling with a camper, we chose St. Valentin because we thought we would easily find a parking space here. After a brief bit of confusion in the dark (since you're not supposed to drive straight to the front door and the path to the restaurant isn't lit), we took the short walk. When we arrived, we were greeted by great lighting in the courtyard, a cozy atmosphere and friendly, good-humored staff (including the so-called “expert” for seating allocation) ☺️ Unexpectedly, it was steak evening and the house was well attended or fully occupied. We were still assigned a table, which made us very happy. We ordered a fillet steak fried medium rare (cooked perfectly, quality excellent - a dream!) and cheese spaetzle (unbeatable price?! €10.90 including a huge salad), dessert and a few beers. A very successful evening! Thank you very much 😊

Finally a restaurant in or around Freiburg where the price-performance ratio is absolutely right. We have been there many times and always enjoy coming back.

The 'Scharfe Paula' was unbelievably delicious, alongside my first-ever 'Brägele' (thin slices of pan-roasted potatoes). Plus the ambience of the dining room is classy, low-lit quality and the staff were super friendly. Memorable!

The food tastes excellent and is on the table quickly! You sit very comfortably and quietly in the middle of nature. The waitresses are very friendly and fulfill every wish!

We had a lovely stay. The service at the table was great. We enjoyed the food and the ice cream with hot raspberries for dessert was also great. The drinks cooled us down again, because that was necessary after such a climb. Now some people ask themselves, why do you only give 3 stars when everything in the restaurant was fine? I have to mention this here because there is nothing about it on the restaurant's homepage. The parking situation is such that you are asked to park your car at the bottom of the street. When we got there around 5:45 p.m. everything was already parked. On the edge of the slope, sloping terrain. That leaves an uneasy feeling. Then comes the climb. Even Google can't help here, as it says this route is mostly flat. It's a steep climb. Now we have a person who is disabled but doesn't have a disability certificate, but we have taken into account people who are more severely disabled. Unfortunately not others. Some others ignored the clear sign. After 400 meters to the restaurant, we pass the parking lot for the "disabled". Here, young families with children get out of the vehicles, usually with local license plates on the SUV. That's no fun Maybe we just have to be a little bolder or even more ruthless when the Paralympics are just starting on TV. One last sentence to St. Valentin, as great as it is with you, we won't be coming back for a while. You need to communicate this better. Or find a solution, perhaps with an e-shuttle.

Had a really tasty meal. The waitress was very friendly and was able to remember all the orders without writing them down. There was also a nice children's corner. Food also came to the table quickly.

It was a highlight again. Remote old inn. The last 400 m you have to walk and go uphill. It's worth it and is easy to reach on the tarred road. People with disabilities are allowed to drive to the inn. The inn has a beautiful beer garden. Very friendly staff. Food was very good and there were large portions.

We were here at the end of our hike and were a little surprised that a table wasn't that easy to get. But the service team made it possible and that was fortunate: the food was really very good, we didn't expect it to go so much beyond "hiker's supplies". The menu has a selection, but is not overly large, and the pancakes, grilled plates and pasta were all excellent. What was a bit irritating was that the well-staffed service staff were walking around with buttons in their ears and were of course dressed entirely in black - you had the feeling that there were 10 bodyguards on the move and either a superstar was about to come around the corner or there was an attack on him Chancellor should be prevented. ;-)

This is our third time eating at St. Valentin and every time it is a pleasure. Today we had corn poularde with truffle linguine. The wild herb salad with vinaigrette and the caramelized carrot sticks were awesome. A huge compliment to the kitchen. Everything harmonized perfectly again. My husband had the “spicy Paula” and he was again super happy with his choice of food. Lots of friendly, well-organized staff and no “fake” friendliness. Here the boss still works at eye level, is very careful and tries to fulfill customer requests. Even in the biggest rush you can switch off and enjoy. We are really looking forward to the next visit.

We had a delightful lunch outside at Waldrestaurant St Valentin today. We highly recommend this restaurant when trying to escape a heatwave. The salads are huge, fresh, and delicious. The rest of the family really enjoyed the linguine with Chanterelle mushrooms. The staff were attentive and friendly, and we can't thank them enough for the kind gesture they showed towards my father-in-law. A pleasant 1 hour walk through the forest to get there.

Super toffe locatie op een berg in de bossen. Toen wij arriveerden in de avond was het erg rustig en er hing een relaxte sfeer. De bediening was erg aardig. We hebben super gegeten: flammkuchen, vegetarische tomaten gnocci en apfelstrudel. Als ik hier weer eens in de buurt ben ga ik er zeker nog een keer eten.
