Volkskammer in Berlin

Ambiente super. Eine richtige Zeltreise. Das war’s dann aber auch schon. Die blonde Kellnerin ist wohl auch in der Zeit stehen geblieben. Sehr unfreundlich. Und das Essen?! Der Schobskasalat war alles andere nur nicht Schobska. Die Sülze ebenso schlecht, die haben wir dann zurück gehen lassen. Was der Kellnerin natürlich gar nicht gefallen hat. Anderes Essen erhalten, was okay war.(wurde nicht extra berechnet) Das Steak au Four war okay, nur die Pommes waren stark überwürzt und zu lange in der Fritöse! Und zu guter letzt: Das Eisbein war wirklich gut!

Like before at Grandma's or in Mitropa. Childhood comes back to life. Totally delicious. Great selection and very pleasant service staff. We'd love to come back.

I was surprised that we were ignored. We waited for a place to be shown to us, as the sign said. We were seen. At some point someone came. I didn't find it nostalgic. According to statements you should get a GDR feeling, that wasn't the case. Food came fairly quickly and tasted as you would expect. One of the two waitresses seemed a bit overwhelmed, but I think she was new there. The prices are a bit excessive. The visit was ok.

It was delicious as always and you are always transported back to the old days and reminisce about old memories. We'll definitely be back

Unfriendly staff. We said out loud that you wanted a senior plate and they charged you a normal portion. You can't do it that way, we won't be back.

In an unusually furnished restaurant you can get dishes that you remember from the past. Meatloaf ("False Rabbit") with a hard-boiled egg in the middle and mixed vegetables, cooked until soft in a spicy stillage. Friendly service. Recommended!

Great reminder of otherwise happily bygone times. The food was as I knew it from before, only the staff is much friendlier today! 🤭 Card payment and WiFi are possible or available. Be sure to reserve! In my opinion it's really worth it!

Dishes from the GDR were quite authentic and tasty. Thank God the cutlery wasn't made of aluminum. A bit like a museum. However, the chairs 🪑 don't invite you to linger.

The food was pretty good. However, we are asked for 1 euro to be able to recharge my phone for 30 minutes. We ask for bread, we are informed that it is 1.5 (the slice) ok no problem, and surprise when we receive the bill it was 2 euros and what's more we had to pay only in cash. I inform you that I wish to pay the bill by credit card and there you must pay a minimum of 7% of the tip amount (or 10% or 15%).

We were there for dinner for the first time yesterday. What can I say, great ambience and really friendly and nice service. Our meal was worth at least 10 stars. The starter was original GDR spiced meat, and the main course was Swallow's Nest and Thuringian Onion Roast. Delicious. The dessert (Swedish cup) and the blonde angel cocktail were also very tasty. They charged us 6.9 for tap water, shocking. On top of that, they didn't want to give us the gift they gave to everyone after eating.

It looks like it does in the East and tastes like my grandma's. Simply super delicious. It's definitely worth a visit for anyone who likes meat

Nice shop with delicious food - the prices are a bit high, the ambience is amusing, slightly special climate with smoky and tart service. The food is very tasty and appetizingly prepared, cold soda, hot coffee - toilet very clean. All in all - quite good.

This was the second time we had lunch here and we felt like we had gone back in time. The attention to detail, the food: simply wonderful.

The unique atmosphere. I tasted the stewed pork knuckle there. It was very delicious (if you don’t like eating pigs, don’t try it). The meat is fresh and tender, completely different from the roasted pork knuckle. However, the sauerkraut that goes with it is salty. If If you don’t like it, it is recommended to tell the store in advance for a smaller price.

A culinary leap in time to the Republic of the East, which leaves no wish of the socialist gourmet's heart unfulfilled! Here you can find everything that was very important in the planned economy back then: from the hearty solyanka to the legendary Jägerschnitzel (made, of course, from hunting sausage). One “Goldbroiler” moment follows the next, served in an atmosphere that could come straight from the HO restaurant or the FDGB holiday home. Pure nostalgia! Only the service is out of the ordinary: far too warm, almost suspiciously like it was imported from a Western package. Where is the strict waitress with a coat and a look that says: “Do you have a note for the food delivery?” But what the heck – we were happy to accept the exceeding of the plan in terms of friendliness. A real combination of culinary delights and nostalgia!

Clear recommendation. You have to try Jägerschnitzel. Solyanka was great. And the ambience... a blast!

Ambience great, Prices okay, really good service... There is only one thing I would wish for... More or at all Eastern music in the restaurant. In my last three visits I haven't been able to experience a title. Eastern music would round off your experience in a completely different way.

Found out this restaurant from a YouTube channel and coincidentally I'm in Berlin at the moment therefore I decided to give it a try. The atmosphere is really nostalgic and cool, is really something new for an Asian which has almost zero knowledge about East Germany. The food portion is really generous and I can't finish everything. The Goulash has a lot of meat in it and it's tasty. The Beef Roulade is also tasty, although the sauce it's a bit too salty for me, but it's fine when eating with the potato dumplings, which are also big. It saids in the menu that I should try their homemade cake, but I was really too full therefore maybe I leave it to next time. Service is pretty good and the staffs are efficient, despite only two frontline staff for the whole restaurant which is very popular and busy. Definitely will visit again whenever I'm in Berlin. Oh, by the way, reservation is necessary especially for dinner.

Vaya, no hay otra forma de describir esta noche. Reservamos una mesa con antelación y un buen trabajo también, ya que este es un restaurante popular. Llegamos temprano, tomamos una copa pero no tuvimos que esperar mucho tiempo para una mesa. Menú en inglés pero nunca oímos hablar de ninguno de los platos así que nos dirigíamos a lo desconocido. Sin embargo, no se preocupe porque los tres platos que tuvimos eran deliciosos. El servicio fue excepcional y rápido. Camarera hablaba muy buen inglés y nada era un problema. Recomiendo encarecidamente comer aquí, pero reserve una mesa con antelación.

Very nice restaurant with a special GDR atmosphere and corresponding menu. The food was again very tasty. The selection isn't that big for vegetarians and vegans, as that didn't exist back then, but it might be interesting to create something there.....😉 The staff is busy but is always up for a bit of fun. Reservations in advance are recommended and can be easily made online. Cash and card payment. It is also conveniently located, just a few minutes' walk from the Ostbahnhof. Gladly again. Thank you.💞

If you are looking for a time machine this is the right place, I don't think it's easy to find a more vintage place than this. 70s and 80s music in the background and if you're lucky you'll hear the owner humming. If you activate Shazam you will bring some musical pieces from the times as a free souvenir. I had goulash, birthday cake, a bitter and at the end of the lunch they honored me with chocolates. Excellent value for money. The cake is also excellent

A really quaint restaurant. Authentic GDR ambience and the food is also authentic. We had a great evening here. Only when it came to dessert was the portion quite manageable. I would go there again and again.

The Volkskammer is a cult. I had Berlin-style liver. Unfortunately, the mashed potatoes tasted like a finished product. Our table was right next to the front door, so we were constantly disturbed by people coming and going.

Waited for 10 mins at the door to be seated. No one acknowledged us or mentioned if they could take us or not. We got tired of being ignored and left. The servers were very unorganized, yelling out orders to find out who ordered what to the people sitting at their tables. Very bad impression, I don’t know why it’s so highly noted.

Great time travel in this very stylish shop, where everything related to the GDR has been thought of. An absolute must when visiting Berlin. The food is good, the portions are quite manageable (a starter is recommended), but that also makes it a bit more expensive. Food is usually borderline hot, but it's OK. Service good - always happy

We always enjoy taking our break in the Volkskammer when we have a DB Fernverkehr tour to Berlin Ostbahnhof! The food is always delicious and authentic and the portions are completely sufficient. The staff fits there just as well as the detailed interior design! Really a successful change from the other locations around... And the memories of the past are very nice... Keep it up so that we can often feel at home with you

Welcome to the GDR era. Decoration appropriately contemporary. Lots of little things and details take you back. Food at a high quality level. Portions are also very generous. Service is professional, friendly and happy to give tips. I found it particularly cool that the former dishes were also offered, as well as formerly popular drinks. Gladly again with friends or family. However, I would look for something else for a romantic dinner 😅

I was there with 3 other friends and they come from the GDR. We had various starters, main courses and dessert...everything was great. It's unbelievable how fresh and delicious it was cooked. I had the Thuringian pork neck with beer sauce... AMAZING how delicious this sauce was. Unfortunately the tables were taken the next day, we would have liked to come back again. I promise to come by again in 2025...MEGA!

Recommendation from our hotel so had reservations but actually really good. Super kitsch 70s déco with old DDR pictures/memorabilia all over but the food was what I know and love as classic hearty German food - Schnitzel, Haxen, etc. Good beers, and cheap!

As an Ossi, you might need a little longer to make a choice because every dish brings back memories. The price-performance ratio is absolutely right, the portions are generous and really tasty. Everything is fresh and definitely homemade. In addition, there is friendly service that is really quick even in a full restaurant. I would give more stars if it were possible. A must for everyone who is in Berlin.

The atmosphere is really very authentic. Lots of decorative pieces, pictures, books and of course a matching menu. The crockery and cutlery also seemed appropriate. The dishes were consistently tasty and well presented. Spiced meat, solyanka and fake rabbit tasted really great. Price performance is also okay and attentive, nice service.

Excellent, I would just advise against ordering the cold dog, as it is a bit expensive compared to the amount you get (one slice) at 5.80 euros.

I've been meaning to come here for a while, and today I did it. You walk through the door and you have traveled back 40 years to a wonderfully decorated restaurant. The food is also amazing, just like it was back then with Grandpa and Grandma. I can only recommend everyone to stop by here and enjoy the charm of the GDR with the typical food and ambience and just switch off for a while

We went to the Volkskammer for my friend's birthday, for me it was a little journey back in time and for us a delicious meal. There was something for every taste, and when we start eating across plates, that's a good sign. It's nice that you exist.

The ambience, the menu, all the little details reminded me of a wonderful time when I traveled with my parents to visit the family in the GDR. It was so cozy and great. Truly quite an experience, such a German themed restaurant. We were served kindly and the food was good! Very authentic, simple and very affordable. We definitely recommend this restaurant. Toilet etc were also clean. There were also many locals, but they were used to tourists (English menu available).

Very good location. Here you feel like you have been transported back behind the former wall. The chairs are original seating furniture from the GDR era, the tables have an additional transparent plastic cover. This was a very practical way to protect the tablecloth underneath, not just during the GDR era. Numerous pictures also remind us of the past. The food is also like it used to be. So if you're looking for a culinary highlight, you've come to the right place. A visit is worth it, reservation would be helpful.
