It's great that the Spanish Garden in Linz has reopened and is operating under new management. Fantastic atmosphere, very friendly and attentive service. Tapas as always.

Great restaurant, good food and a beautiful atmosphere

We've known the Spanish Garden for a long time. We were there shortly after the change of ownership. The food was wonderful, but you could still tell it had been influenced by the previous owners. Last night was great. The impression was that the new owners have now found their own style. They offered tapas that weren't on the menu, which I think is fantastic – having something different to try now and then. The chicken croquettes were new to us. We'd never seen or eaten them anywhere else. Amazing! The food was excellent, and so was the service – friendly and efficient. A change in ownership is always difficult, but it's been a complete success here, and it's nice that everything is much tidier now. You feel very comfortable.

We've been visiting the Spanish Garden for several years and were there for the first time under the new management in October 2025. The food is still excellent; although some of my previous favorite dishes are no longer available. Some portions are smaller, and the prices are similar. The service is very attentive and friendly. The restaurant and garden seem tidier than before. The Spanish Garden is still worth recommending. However, it should be noted that the Spanish Garden was more than that for us in the past. The Spanish Garden without the unique owner Franz Gauer, who wanders through the restaurant and entertains his guests, may still be a great tapas restaurant, but it's not our Spanish Garden. However, anyone visiting the restaurant for the first time won't miss anything.

TERRIBLE SERVICE, TERRIBLE FOOD, TERRIBLE ATMOSPHERE It is true that Germany is not characterized for its friendly people but the owner and hostesses of this restaurant were on another level. Not only were they unfriendly, unkind but unacceptably RUDE, including their gestures and body language, they seemed annoyed at every question we made. I wanted to leave right away since you can feel the unwelcoming and uninviting atmosphere as soon as you stepped in but my friend was shy to do so. So we stayed just to almost beg the waitresses to come to our table, and trying to explain in detail what we wanted since they played purposely, childishly and dumbly the not understanding game. Then our only hope was at least to have good food, but it was terrible and very cold, nothing you would expect in a spanish restaurant. Not much to say, the best part of this evening was leaving.

We went to the Spanish Garden quite spontaneously after a parade, and despite the late hour, our delicious tapas were served quickly and with care. The end of the evening was also simply perfect; we sat longer in the garden with the owners and had a very pleasant evening. We would gladly return anytime.

A rustic ambiance, a highlight for us for many years, with the best sangria and amazing aioli. Homemade bread. We're very excited about the new owners and the culinary delights we'll be back in the country in December.

A very nice, quaint Spanish restaurant with an inviting atmosphere. The service was friendly and always attentive. The tapas were decent, and we were particularly impressed by the dessert: chocolate cakes with a liquid center and vanilla ice cream – truly delicious. The impression was somewhat dampened by the sometimes long wait times, for example, for repeat orders like the aioli. I'm also rather skeptical about the value for money: €11 for a portion of Serrano ham is borderline in my opinion. Overall, a pleasant lunch in a pleasant atmosphere, with minor drawbacks in terms of service speed and pricing.

And then, of all places, where the restaurants still bear old German inn names like DER BLAUE BOCK, etc. (that was a joke), the tourist finds a Spanish restaurant, which offers a welcome change from the home-style 🇩🇪. The menu is really impressive. Check it out online. So if you're ever in Linz am Rhein and want to eat something other than Greek, Turkish, etc., you can try Spanish. I'd say it's worth it. Even if a vacation in 🇪🇸 is a risk during the coronavirus pandemic, at least in tranquil Linz am Rhein you can experience a bit of "Spain," at least in terms of food, and if you've had a few glasses of wine, you can sing the song EL VIVA ESPANIA with Cindy and Bert. I spent my birthday there yesterday, and I have to say it was a wonderful evening! We went there with our baby, and the chef prepared a delicious meal especially for my grandson, at no extra charge! They also provided hot water for the milk. Very child-friendly. My flowers were also taken care of so they would last the evening. The service was wonderful throughout, and they always tried to accommodate their guests. For a Thursday, it was very busy, which speaks volumes for the restaurant. The ambiance inside and out is neat and authentic, not as shabby as before, simply well-kept. The food and drinks are of good quality, and the price/performance ratio is also good. The taste is very good and leaves you wanting more. We will of course be back and look forward to a relaxing evening in this wonderful atmosphere. My business is almost across the street, so I will definitely take a break there sometime and will gladly pass on this recommendation to my customers.

I haven't been here in ages, and when I heard who had taken over the Spanish Garden, we were keen to eat there. The outdoor seating is really nice and feels like you're on vacation, and the inside is certainly very nice and cozy too. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the papas arrugadas with mojo sauce and the Iberico ham, which were divine. The restaurant is okay - nothing more. That's not even the fault of the food, but much more due to external influences. First, the food: The creme Catalana was overcooked and simply not good. The dips were tasteless. The rest of the food was good - really tasty. BUT: There's no internet in the basement - all good - you don't need it while eating. But people... hygiene! There are thick webs of dust everywhere in the basement and meters of dust. Sometimes it's right above your head. Lots of visible expansion foam on the ceilings - it really doesn't look good. You're supposed to hand over your menu - why not keep it so you can order more? That's in the restaurant's interest, right? A repeat? Probably not.

The menu consisted mainly of tapas, which is generally good, but the selection of dishes was very limited. The food was very tasty, but the portions were tiny! The chiruzo portion, in particular, was very limited. Unfortunately, the value for money isn't right there. Bread is also charged extra, which I'm not used to. All in all, everyone was still hungry afterward, but no one was full! It's a shame, I expected something different. Therefore, unfortunately, only 2 stars: one for the staff, the other for the quality. We won't be visiting the Spanish Garden again in the future....

Very cozy restaurant and courtyard. The new operators have it remarkably clean. That caught my eye straight away. Unfortunately, our spontaneous visit was too late for dinner. Nevertheless, the new operating couple took the time with us to have a nightcap after a busy day. That's what I call true hospitality. You will see us here more often in the future. Clear recommendation! This time the restaurant management is genuinely with Spanish roots.

The Saarland hobby chef forces a conversation on you without asking. He also claims to be able to judge the “lack of doctoral degrees” among anesthesiologists. Without being asked, he proudly explains his career from banker to amateur chef. You lose your appetite. Even the waitress asks, bored, whether he's finally finished with his lecture so that she can finally take the drink order. The waitress is the only positive thing that can be mentioned here. You should not make a reservation in the vaulted cellar if you have to be reachable by phone. There is no reception there. Cold tapas are more reminiscent of a third-rate sausage platter and the warm tapas are further away from Spanish cuisine than Linz is from mainland Spain. The frozen squid rings are better in any supermarket than in the “Spanish Garden”. Cold, stale bread is served with the aioli. Last but not least, dirt constantly falls from the ceiling onto your head and into your food. That same evening, some of our group spent a lot of time on the toilet, and the remaining 10 people had to deal with gastrointestinal problems the next morning. Let's hope that his successor does more with this restaurant with a really nice atmosphere. A visit to the current operator is under no circumstances recommended

We got a table in the Spanish Garden at fairly short notice. Since there were eight of us, we were given a round table outside in the best weather. We shared tappas with several people and were more than full. The other dishes also looked really excellent. The fast and friendly service is also worth highlighting. Very very disappointing. On the first visit everything was great, the reservation went smoothly and the food was also very tasty. Now we wanted to come back with a larger group, but unfortunately the gentleman on the phone was so unfriendly and dismissive when he told me that nothing was available anymore that we definitely wouldn't go there anymore. Apparently the restaurant is overwhelmed with a booking of 8 people. The second star is only given because the food was really delicious last year.

My brother invited us here for his birthday. It couldn't have been better! The food was amazing, the best tapas I've tasted so far. The inner courtyard and the restaurant are lovingly designed, the vaulted cellar is a highlight, especially for the children, and the boss is a wonderfully refreshing one-of-a-kind. A very small, fine restaurant where you can eat very well, the various tabas are served, they all taste very good while they are still hot and the price for two people is around 60 euros. You almost have 8/9 different Papapas, a bottle of Ballasion water, very nice service, the ambience is great, you can see the pictures, the restaurant really looks at you, it's really a secret and you have to reserve in advance so we can't get to a place.

A cozy restaurant with a great ambience. We had made reservations for outside but had to sit inside as it had rained and the outside seats were wet. As a result, the arrival and start of lunch wasn't as friendly and relaxed as I would have liked. There is wonderful food, which is beautifully presented. Everything tasted very good, according to my meat-eating companions. My vegetarian dish was great. A restaurant that I can highly recommend, but you should reserve in advance if you want to be sure of a seat.
