The Paradise Now in Düsseldorf

Nachdem wir für 5 Personen online nicht reservieren konnten, haben wir dies per E-Mail getan. Die erste Hürde war geschafft. Als wir dann rein liefen, wurde uns mitgeteilt dass wir 2 Stunden Zeit haben Abend zu essen. Die Inneneinrichtung ist sehr ansprechend aber das war’s dann auch schon. Das Personal ist unfreundlich, der Laden war halb leer und es tümmelten sich wanna be Influencer. Das essen war ok. Nachdem unsere Zeit abgelaufen war und wir eigentlich noch Desserts bestellen wollten, sagte man uns ganz unfreundlich dass wir gehen müssen. Nicht verstanden warum, denn das Restaurant war um 21 Uhr immernoch halb voll. Das Personal war nicht im Stande die Rechnung zu splitten. Ich bin schon viel durch die Welt gereist, aber sowas habe ich noch nicht gesehen. Kann ich keinem empfehlen.

Leider war unser Besuch im Paradise Now nicht so erfreulich, wie wir es uns erhofft hatten. Die 3,5 Punkte auf Google spiegeln unsere Erfahrung wider. Wir hatten eine Woche im Voraus einen Tisch im Restaurantbereich reserviert, erhielten jedoch per WhatsApp die Mitteilung, dass nur noch Tische um 21:30 Uhr verfügbar seien. Das ist zwar nachvollziehbar, aber für ein Abendessen um 22 Uhr, insbesondere bei Preisen von über 300 €, nicht ideal. Als wir schließlich ankamen, wurden wir mit der Information empfangen, dass unser Name nicht auf der Liste stand. Es schien, als ob es mehrere Überbuchungen gegeben hatte. Die Mitarbeiter waren sichtlich gestresst, und letztendlich wurden wir mit den Worten verabschiedet, dass es keine freien Tische mehr gäbe. Leider wurden wir nicht einmal hereingebeten, um die Situation zu klären, obwohl es draußen sehr kalt war. Ein kleines Entgegenkommen, wie ein Getränk an der Bar, wäre in dieser Situation nett gewesen, aber das wurde uns nicht angeboten. Zusätzlich fiel uns auf, dass die Atmosphäre im Lokal nicht unseren Erwartungen entsprach.

Ein Stern ist schon zu viel . Man kommt sich vor wie in einer Drama Serie. Tisch reserviert am Eingang wird man schon komisch angeguckt . Drescode feiner Pullover Merino wolle schwarze Anzugshose und Guiseppe Zanoti Schuhe . Während des Essens wird man mehrfach drauf hingewiesen das man ein Zeit Slot hat 😂 Tisch angeblich weiter reserviert aber es kam niemand mehr nach uns .Rechnung sofort bezahlt 501 Euro und 20 Trinkgeld gegeben .Auf die Frage ob wir eine Flasche bestellen können im Restaurant Bereich die Antwort es geht nur Champagner 😂 rein Geld Macherei 😂😂 danach sind wir in die Bar verwiesen worden haben dann wieder bestellt aber Energie gibt’s erst im Club sagt der Kelner 😂😂😂 Schickane geht weiter . Im nach hinein kam meine Frau dazu wir gesellten uns zurück an den Tisch und dann kam der nette Türsteher und meinte sie währe zu leicht bekleidet 😂 hiermit nochmal Grüße von meiner Frau . Nach den ganzen professionellen da drinnen Influencern die halb nackt wahren hatte es der nette Tür Steher auf uns abgesehen . Kann nur eins raten meidet den Laden im großen Bogen . Meidet diese Möchtegern bar Restaurant. Respektlosigkeit wird dort ganz groß geschrieben .

Just today our reservation for a Christmas party was canceled because a booking for a private party was apparently overlooked. Four weeks after our booking confirmation and four weeks before our Christmas party!!! Small companies simply make less money than large ones - simply outrageous. Leave bookings in place until something more attractive comes around the corner. We will certainly never set foot in Paradise Now again and neither will our employees!

The Paradise Now has completely convinced me and I cannot understand the negative reviews. The friendly welcome from the bouncer ensured a good start to the evening. The food was excellent: I ordered the salmon with a side salad and baked apple on the waiter's recommendation, and tried a few bites of crème brûlée that my best friend had ordered. Everything was of good quality and I was more than full. If you are still concerned that the main course is not enough, we recommend a starter. I was particularly impressed by the attentive service throughout the restaurant, at the bar and in the club - we were always served quickly and friendly without having to wait long for the food or cocktails. A big compliment goes to the waiter Kami, who made a special effort. Our next girls night will also be at Paradise Now! Regarding the clientele and dress code: The guests were all smartly dressed and there were no unpleasant incidents ☺️

Very very bad service, endless waiting times with overpriced prices. Tipping is forced upon you and not recommended at all.

A store of superlatives: excessive, arrogant, overwhelmed, overcrowded! The service is terrible, or rather there is none 😂 The audience: exceptionally “wannabe have-nots” and arrogant duck faces. 😅 Left after 40 minutes without service. You really don't have to go through this. Düsseldorf offers enough well-kept locations with style.

“Unfortunately we cannot recommend this bar at all. The service was an absolute disaster. Particularly disappointing was the waiter - an older man with no hair - who made us feel unwanted from the start. He was rude, ignored us on multiple occasions and seemed completely uninterested in serving us. We've never experienced anything like this before. We are extremely disappointed and will definitely not visit this bar again.” He repeatedly refused us an unoccupied table that was only reserved at The Way from 11 p.m., we were there at 10 p.m. We placed our empty glass on this empty table and the waitress asked us to put it away immediately instead of taking it to the bar ourselves. Disgraceful staff!

Everything was great on the first visit. At the second one we were shown the door because of a randomly made up story from the bouncer. We supposedly had a fight with the bouncers last week. My colleague and I each weigh 65kg and my wife has no martial arts experience either. I didn't know how to react to such nonsense. We just left and I wrote an email. Since I haven't received any response to my email for 10 days, I'll give it a corresponding rating and we'll avoid it in the future.

I've been trying to call the restaurant for two days to make a reservation. I wrote on Instagram, on WhatsApp - zero reactions. I can’t call a German number, so it’s hard to say.

Our visit to this restaurant was extremely disappointing. After standing at the bar for a while, we asked a waitress if we could order. She pointed out that we had to push through the crowd to the bar to order. When we finally ordered, our order was forgotten and we felt like we weren't being taken seriously. This experience was really frustrating and I will not visit the place again. Definitely not a recommendation to go there on a Saturday evening. Extremely unfriendly.

This store is simply incredible. The employees were very unfriendly and ignored us for a whole 30 minutes. When we were finally allowed to order, the service was just annoyed and disrespectful. The food was average at best and we definitely expected more. A good restaurant should have the basics such as friendliness, professionalism, hospitality (also towards people of all backgrounds), good craftsmanship and good management. Unfortunately we didn't have a great evening there and wouldn't recommend it, especially for discerning guests.

It is a good place to have fun and have a good time and eat with pleasure. As a worker I felt very good and they respect the worker. I would work again without a doubt. The bosses are very kind to me and my colleagues too.

Dear organizers, Don’t post advertisements in Düsseldorf in RA if it’s only going to be a GUEST-LIST-only-EVENT. Bouncers treated me as if I was lost (tbh I kinda was at the moment) (but what can I expect from such a great city lmao). Overall I wished if I could have seen AMÉMÉ live, but I guess I was too badly dressed, or I don’t fkn know why, to be part of the crowd. I’ve never been to “The Paradise Now” (I was only here for AMÉMÉ but I couldn’t get in :/) but overall seems like a good place to have smth nice to eat or drink. My visit to this restaurant was a real disappointment. It all started when I arrived four weeks ahead of schedule to reserve a table for a large group. I was told that a separate department was responsible for this, but they did not respond to my calls and messages for a week. When I finally got through, I was given no advice about menu composition or alcohol, and the treatment was openly condescending. The table reservation was only for three hours, which was not communicated to me beforehand. When we arrived, the snacks we had talked about were not prepared and the table was in a dirty state: the sofa was dirty and there were used napkins with chewing gum on them. The waiters were friendly but not attentive. They started clearing the table half an hour before our unplanned end and suggested we sit at the bar, which didn't go according to our plans. Overall, this place does not live up to its reputation at all and is not recommended. The service and organization leave a lot to be desired and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to enjoy a celebration in a pleasant atmosphere.

We had reserved in advance. Reception with an expressionless face. The man standing at the door might as well be answering the door in the red light district. The 10 euro water is offered continuously. Be careful when it comes to sales! Ordered food - selection was rather limited, but the salmon was very tasty. Logically, it is not only expensive, but also rather little. But we knew that beforehand!! Not a minus point Location is very nice, the guests know that too and you see more cell phones than pretty faces. Sometimes it's extremely annoying when the photo session is going on at the next table. Otherwise, the air conditioning is far too weak and after 10 p.m. (Saturday) it becomes difficult to have a relaxed conversation because the music gets louder and louder. Very good atmosphere, nice employees. Only the deduction of 2 stars: 1. For a restaurant in this price range and with only 4-5 starters on the menu, I think it's a real shame that the waiter told us after ordering that the starter was no longer available. 2. The appetizer, which was actually not available, was still charged on the bill! Unfortunately I only noticed this when we got home.

Dear Sir or Madam, I would like to briefly describe my experience, which I had to experience on Saturday, August 10th, 2024 at around 11:15 p.m. in front of the door of your shop. My business partner and I actually just wanted to escape the ugly and hectic everyday life. I told him about the great bar and the great people. We were really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, the joy was short-lived and we were denied entry on the grounds that we had a reservation. At first we thought it was a joke and suggested that I was here at least often and that I had also come to eat with my family and that since day one without any question of a reservation. We now know the very nice and polite employees by name. Despite this, we were then referred to complain to management and he had clear instructions. What instructions? To somehow embarrassingly reject cheerful and decent people who just want to drink a cocktail? There was no sign of insight from the gentleman at the door, even though the store was visibly only half full. Despite the fact that he recognized one of us as a regular guest. It was still a nice conversation and not emotionally influenced from either side. From our side, we were decently dressed, no signs of an aggressive attitude, just simple, nice, educated people who just wanted to escape the dreary everyday life. It's a shame for a Saturday evening that unfortunately ended like that for us and we went home. Nevertheless, we wish you continued success and the very best. P.S. Unfortunately I can't give this restaurant a positive rating. I was horrified to witness a group of black guests of African descent not being served and then being expelled from the restaurant under the pretext that the table was supposedly reserved. Such behavior is unacceptable and shows a shocking lack of respect. I cannot recommend this restaurant!

Bouncers: taller guy with beard and lady were doing absolulety unprofessional work in relation to a client. The client visits Paradise Now often, very well dressed and with good manners, not drunk. Today client was rejected after visiting MEERBAR. Such a shame. Thats just one of obvious reasons that ParadiseNow is GOING DOWN !

Biggest garbage load! Waiters are aloof and arrogant, they act as if their father owns the shop. You are asked to change seats while you are eating. Please save your money, people, they haven't even earned a euro.

Food, alright - but madly over priced. Fries with truffle were great, but not worth the price. You might as well buy some truffle oil and put it on some mc Donald fries, and you are still better off. Service, trash Atmosphere - hell.

Nice place, good food, wirst service ever

Overall it's a really nice store. The audience is of course classic Düsseldorf. If you don't look like money, you will receive little attention from others, provided you are willing to connect with others. A Diet Coke costs €5.50, which I find super cheeky. Nevertheless, I would basically like to go there because the concept of bar, restaurant and club could be great. Unfortunately, for completely incomprehensible reasons, even in the bar and restaurant area, the music is so incredibly loud on weekends that you have to shout at each other from very close distance in order to be heard. What's that supposed to mean?

I was there with friends and at the table behind us there was a group of PoC women who obviously wanted to celebrate a birthday there. The group was not served at all and then extremely rudely and then they were told they had to leave at 9pm because the table was reserved, but half the place was empty. Clearly racist. We will never go there again.

This venue was recommended to me by the manager of the Melia hotel nearby as I was visiting from England. When we arrived the bouncers denied us entry due to the colour of our skin which they openly admitted. What an absolute disgrace! Welcome to 2024 Germany people! The bouncers didn’t even ask us for our reservation which makes things worse. Does diversity and equality mean anything here to you backward minded people?!

Unfortunately we had a very disappointing evening at The Paradise Now. My friends and I were not allowed in, even though the internet stated a minimum age of 21. We are all over 21 but we were told the minimum age is 25. This caused a lot of confusion and frustration, especially as the bouncers were very rude and unprofessional. It seemed like they were just looking for a reason :). Such contradictory behavior is unacceptable and leaves a bad impression. We were looking forward to a nice evening, but instead we were treated disrespectfully and had to find a new location. I hope management takes this review seriously and works to provide clearer information and train their staff better :)

So unfortunately the concept is very poorly implemented. Just the attempt that starts at the door to present something that the staff in particular won't give ends up with the waiters doing an extremely unqualified job. Accordingly, the conclusion is that the steak is really good, the atmosphere is nice, the staff and the rest of the food -10!! Prices not justified with 8 pasta dishes and steak on the menu. Great service, a very nice atmosphere. This caught our attention on social media. We were thrilled.

EDIT: This review is not "new" as Google suggests. It's from April 2022. But I was allowed to change it twice because of the use of a four-letter word. “I kindly ask you not to go back to this restaurant in the future. They are full of ***.” – Comment from my virtual companion after looking at the photos and describing the dishes. Harsh but fair. My subjective impression: I show up at 6:30 p.m., the table is ready and everything is going great. In no time there is a bottle of water on the table, the advice on choosing the welcome drink is a bit clumsy but charming. I am given enough time to study the – clear – menu, as well as the manageable but clearly overpriced wine list. I initially choose two starters: Ceviche Brilliante (according to the waiter: “white fish”) and “veal tagliata”. The ceviche reaches me quickly. The portion is clear, the choice of “fish” seems random (whatever Pulpo is looking for in a ceviche) and the whole thing is very bordering on “oversalted”. The spiciness inherent in a ceviche is offset by the saltiness. The tagliata follows quickly and, upon closer inspection, turns out to be cold roast beef of veal with rocket, corn (or was it quinoa?!) and olives. Here, too, there is far too much salt involved, which is brought even more to the fore by the olives. There is also a line of green cream on the plate (I assume: avocado), but this is completely lost in the basic saltiness of the dish. Since there is still room, I decide to order another pasta dish. My choice is the homemade ravioli with spinach, ricotta and sage butter. The dish appears and on top there is a rocket salad dressed with balsamic vinegar. This fits exactly as well as it sounds: not at all. After removing the rocket crown, what remains is just-al-dente ravioli with a filling in which you can taste the spinach but not the ricotta. Bathed in a far too greasy oil-butter-little-sage emulsion. The bottle of Chablis is coming to an end and my decision is clear: once and never again - at least not if I pay the bill. The logical conclusion: a look at the dessert menu! Here, too, there is more sadness. But: there is a cheese plate - which for some unknown reason is called "El Queso", even though it seems about as Spanish as a bottle of saké. Seen, said, done! It follows: * a plate of irrelevant white bread that accompanied me for the rest of the evening * a piece of butter that doesn't taste quite as pungent of truffle oil as the other pieces of butter * a board with four different types of cheese, which the waitress cannot explain (the colleague then takes the coals out of the fire) The cheese was OK, the grapes that accompanied it were fresh and crunchy. Next to it was a mixture of nuts and indefinable things that were vaguely reminiscent of trail mix but clearly failed the quality check. Conclusion: a place-to-be that - but you shouldn't expect anything else - offers mediocre food at absurd prices. The service is always trying, but completely overwhelmed by 8 p.m. at the latest.

I was here recently with a group of friends and you noticed that as a group of dark-skinned women wearing headscarves you weren't welcome. We would be served last and constantly reminded that the table was reserved for a group after us. Even though we still had 90 minutes. We had no time to ask for a manager.

The Paradise now combines restaurant, bar and club experience like no other location in Germany. The atmosphere is great, the drinks are excellent and the service is friendly/attentive. I particularly had a lot of fun in the club. Sound, atmosphere and audience like on vacation 😄. I'll be back soon 🏆

Ladieeeees… go eat somewhere else with your hard-earned money. A friend of mine had made a reservation there for a long time and simply wasn't served. Instead, people who had just arrived were served. Playing the racism card might annoy some people, but if you wanted a nice evening with a relaxed atmosphere and great pics for Insta, this is NOT THIS STORE 🥲

Some of the food is OK, but it's really expensive. The price/performance ratio is definitely not right here. The cocktails in both the restaurant and the club are a disaster. For this price (14-20) EUR you get much better quality in Düsseldorf. The bartender had 3 attempts to make us a normal whiskey sour, unfortunately without success. The cocktails in the club are mixed from cheap spirits. The service is totally overwhelmed and slow. There is almost no ventilation in the restaurant - you want to finish your meal as quickly as possible and go to the club - at least the room is air-conditioned. What we liked is the music (but could have a bit more bit) and the ambience - a good designer made his contribution there. Conclusion: Club would be happy again, restaurant definitely not!

It's impossible how you deal with paying guests here. NEVER AGAIN

Honestly I can't recommend this place at all. We were there to celebrate my friend's birthday; she had reserved a table for three people two weeks in advance. When we arrived we had to wait at least half an hour to be served, while groups that arrived after us were served more quickly. After 1.5 hours we were informed by the staff that we had to vacate our table because it was reserved for another group. We were asked to leave our table and sit at the bar even though my friend had reserved the table two weeks in advance.

Really the very last one! You. Racist place!!! Sends 4 black women away even though reservations were made weeks ago and has a waitress and harasses them the whole time!!! The operations manager is just as racist and gives a huge berth!!!!

The look of the restaurant is nice, but the same cannot be said about the character. The waitress there is very rude and has no respect for the guests. Such people should look for another job. Furthermore, I would not recommend the restaurant if you are dark-skinned and you don't want to ruin your day.

The store itself is very beautiful, the atmosphere is attractive and stylish. However, the service and treatment of customers leaves a lot to be desired. My companion and I were initially shown to a table, but had to wait a full 15 minutes for the menu. That was annoying, but still bearable. We each ended up ordering a cocktail and a portion of truffle fries. But shortly afterwards something completely unexpected happened: a waitress asked us to leave the restaurant because the minimum consumption was €35. We weren't even given the opportunity to order anything else to reach the requested amount. We were shocked and felt like we were being treated unfairly, especially since we weren't dressed inappropriately or misbehaved in any way. We ultimately left the store without allowing the situation to escalate further. Everyone should make their own judgment, but our experience was disappointing and unfortunately we cannot recommend the service.

Arrived with a group of 10 at 7pm on a Saturday. To start with.. When we arrived, the interaction with the bouncer was unpleasant, he presented himself a bit hostile rather than welcoming. (the fact that we thought of him as a bouncer rather than a host perhaps says enough). Oysters were out of stock as was our first choice of wine. Second choice took a long time to arrive. Food was there quite fast but one of the guests had to send back undercooked cod fish. When leaving the venue the bouncer asked if we had paid. After I acknowledged he even repeated the question once more and demanded to see a receipt. Overall unpleasant experience in what could be a great venue.

We were a group of 3 black girls and had reserved months in advance. Firstly, the waitress was totally unfriendly, we only got the menu and bread after she complained. And in the end, around 9 p.m., you were basically thrown out because the table was still reserved for other people. We couldn't even order dessert anymore. Was my favorite restaurant to date, but after yesterday's experience I will never go there again.

We became aware of “The Paradise Now” through the very attractive Instagram page. We had a slightly longer journey so we were very excited to see what The Paradise Now had to offer. And I can only say we are very impressed. When we arrived, the very friendly staff welcomed us. We were offered good service and good food. Parking wasn't a problem either. We particularly liked the large and inviting terrace. All in all we can only recommend it and despite the long journey - we would be happy to come back :)

We traveled from further afield to visit “The Paradise Now” during the European Championships and were warmly welcomed. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. We were particularly surprised that the European Championship games were broadcast live on the terrace. An all-round successful experience – we would love to come back! Lg

Bouncer racist, doesn't let foreign guests in despite appropriate demeanor and reservations. It's a shame because we've been there many times, this time with a male companion, and were turned away. We embarrassed ourselves because we had always recommended the store to our friends. I will definitely pass it on to everyone in my area and they will definitely not set foot on it again. Trendy restaurant at Düsseldorf harbor. The steak was excellent, cooked to the minute and super tender. A hefty price at Euro 64, but the enjoyment was worth it. The wine recommendation went very well with the meat.

Simply my absolute favorite restaurant in Düsseldorf when it comes to enjoying all-round care! First an aperitif at the bar, then to the restaurant for dinner, until the DJ plays music on the weekend and then we go to what is probably the most beautiful club! And everything under one roof - it couldn't be better!

When I asked to speak to your boss and then asked for your name, the answer was “there is no such thing” and “none of your business”. The woman's absolutely inappropriate behavior was subsequently supported by the door man. I did not expect such arrogant behavior from the staff of a “renowned restaurant/bar”. Both I and the colleagues who were there (3 people) will never come here again. It's sad when a store loses customers because the staff is disrespectful.

A shop that you should save yourself over 30. Mediocre in every way. Untrained, partly unwilling staff, some taste good, some don't. An experience that doesn’t need to be repeated.

The selector lets you in as you please. If you keep it up, the store will soon be completely empty!

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The waitress served me the wrong food and instead of taking it back and bringing the right thing, the wrong dish was literally forced on me. I didn't like it at all as I would never order something like that. When I asked to exchange the food I was refused. This is absolutely unacceptable. I expect a restaurant to respect its guests and make corrections when a mistake occurs. Unfortunately, I will not recommend this restaurant nor will I visit it again.

The food was really tasty, but it didn't justify the price. The chairs are all broken and absolutely unstable. With such demands on guests, I expect nothing less from the service and the ambience. In our case, glasses were broken and despite the glasses being empty, people didn't ask if we wanted something more to drink, every time a waiter walked past our table my chair was bumped into and a restaurant that smells so strongly of a room scent is even possible not. Not everyone can tolerate this and it distracts from eating.

Service is okay, atmosphere is good with dj playing music but food is very bland for the price. Remember to dress fancy or you will get threatened to go and change. Wouldn’t recommend.

The young lady at the door in particular acts out so much and tries to compensate for her pitiful salary and looks at the customers. Ridiculous behavior. I ordered a pasta dish which had a word in German that I didn’t know so when the food came it was something I didn’t eat the waitress said “because you don’t know the word you still have to pay for the food” which I didn’t even eat. I WILL NEVER COME TO THIS PLACE AGAIN !!! Horrible you cannot force someone to pay for something if they don’t eat the food yet alone the menu having German words !! Then they said oh you won’t have to pay full price just give us something which seemed like a scam!!! Again I WILL NEVER COME TO THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN !!!

Embarrassing club. We were denied entry after the bouncers kept us waiting for half an hour. I will definitely advise my friends and acquaintances against the club. Btw the club wrote to me on Instagram a few weeks before if I wanted to come over with my friends. As a model I definitely have better opportunities to party!

More appearance than reality - Nice location, drinks ok, food not commensurate with the price. If you just want to enjoy drinks and the atmosphere, it's okay. But there are definitely better bars in Düsseldorf. The gastronomy leaves MANY wishes unfulfilled (cold duck & steak... way too overpriced) not comparable to Robert. or other restaurants with the same price/cheaper. Club: ok, you really don't miss anything. Danger for girls: you are not allowed to take your drink out with you, but have to put it at a public table - the perfect opportunity to get co-drops and other substances in your glass.

An sich super schöne Location und sehr gutes Konzept mit dem integrierten Bar- und Clubprinzip. Allerdings ist das Publikum einfach nicht cool. Türe sollte etwas strenger sein. Schade. Drinks und Essen ansonsten gut, aber etwas überteuert.

What a jumping jack load. A friend and I (well dressed) wanted to make a quick visit to Paradise Now last night (without a reservation). Unfortunately the bouncer didn't let us in because we didn't have a reservation, two women behind us were let in without a reservation...

They are not from Düsseldorf and were influenced to go here by Instagram. It was okay for us, but unfortunately nothing more. I don't regret the visit, but I wouldn't go there again and wouldn't recommend it.

Schon lang nicht mehr so schlecht gegessen. Flanksteak war kalt und wurde dann tot gebraten und war somit ungenießbar. Service war nett, aber kaum anwesend, somit in der Bewertung auch nicht gut. Lediglich die Location und Musik waren super.

The food was terrible, every single plate was bad. The pasta was way too much and bland. The service bad, even tough not enough people. The parmesan cheese the serve it to you straight from a supermarket plastic bag… disgusting ! The coat lady now where to be seen. Such a bad experience and to top it off! Expensive!!! That is the worst combination!
