A small place to relax, but the coffee was ok.

Staff friendly, food okay, coffee very bad, very dirty.

Unfortunately, the rest stop seems very old and run-down – it feels like it was 20 years ago. There's only one cash register, which results in long waits, and the food is usually cold by the time you finally get seated. The food itself is okay and the prices are fair, but it lacks appeal for families: no playground, nothing for children. Overall, a negative impression. The facility is in dire need of modernization.

Everything was clean, but it took a very long time for us to get our food and pay. It was quiet, yet there were about seven people waiting in line at the cash register to pay.

Delicious food. Good selection and very friendly staff. Next time we'll stop in the Danube Valley again.

Ordering is too complex toilet is dirty

We ordered two latte macchiatos. Worst coffee ever. We complained, but the unpleasant man just told us, "You got a latte, and that's it." That's our standard of service these days.

Being the first gas station after entering Germany from Austria (Linz - Passau), it has very high fuel prices. Noise, congestion and quite a lot of garbage.

Terrible here. Staff were only interested in—presumably—talking. No service, tables not cleared, food scraps everywhere, not clean here.

I have to disagree with the previous reviews. My visit here on the east side was also very positive! The Wi-Fi worked perfectly, and water was immediately available upon request. The food was excellent, highway-standard at the highest level! The restrooms were also very clean despite the high number of visitors during the holiday season. I've known the facility for a long time and know that a year ago it was very neglected. Investments are constantly being made here! What particularly impressed me was the presence of management on site. They seem to be there constantly and permanently. I think problems should be addressed directly on site, rather than simply posting a negative review without context. Another point that surprised me is that many people here talk about a lack of staff. However, I experienced the opposite – there are tons of staff!

Complete rip-off, don't get petrol here. I paid 2,249 EUR/ Litre for 95 E5. Normaly it costs around 1,68 EUR/Litre.

I visited this rest stop today after a long time and was really pleasantly surprised! A lot has changed here compared to the past. You can immediately tell there's been a change of ownership. The entire facility is now very clean and tidy, which I noticed as soon as I entered. The staff is extremely friendly, attentive, and helpful, making you feel immediately welcome. The food was also really delicious and freshly prepared. I especially like how even the smallest details are spot on, from the presentation to the quality of the ingredients. In conclusion: There's no comparison to the past – please keep it up! I'd definitely be happy to come back. 👏🍽️

Stopped here in the middle of the holiday season. The restaurant was very busy, and we were about to leave. The nice lady at the counter said it would be very quick. And that's exactly how it was. Great service, great food. Thank you!

I was at the Donautal Ost rest stop again this weekend and I'm not happy at all. I waited over 10 minutes at the checkout, and my food got cold as a result. I've been driving past this rest stop for years and I've noticed how the staff seem increasingly overwhelmed. THERE'S A LACK OF STAFF❗️In my opinion, it's not the staff's fault, though; I think it's just a lack of them.

Heavy tourist traffic and a full house - despite these circumstances, top staff and service in the restaurant - keep it up!

We were very impressed with the fast service and the friendly staff. We arrived with two hungry children, and it was incredibly busy in the middle of holiday traffic. We got our food quickly, and the staff had a friendly word for the children, even in their rush. The quality was top-notch. This is what makes a rest stop fun.

I'm here every weekend. The toilets are very clean, the showers are very clean. Thanks to the staff.

You can see a clear change and improvement here compared to recent years. Either there was a change of operator, or they finally took the problems seriously. The outdoor area and the restrooms are really clean, and the restaurant offers a great selection of different dishes at reasonable prices. The staff are very friendly and brought my food directly to my table. I pass by here often for work and enjoy spending my breaks there!

I can't understand the criticism of the sanitary facilities, because during my visit, everything was spotlessly clean and the cleaning staff were very friendly. I also don't understand the discussion about the 1 euro entrance fee for the toilet, because there are also free toilets along the highway if you don't want to pay, so you can see the difference.

A standard rest area with a gas station, restrooms, and a restaurant. The coffee was okay. The entire facility is a bit small, but it's fine for a short break.

According to the staff, there has been a change of operator. I come here regularly and have noticed that there have been extremely positive changes. The prices in the restaurants are finally moderate again. The food tastes good and is now finally DIGESTIVE! I had stopped eating there with the previous operator after several stomach upsets. It's always surprising what a change of operator brings. KEEP IT UP! REALLY! I'll be happy to come back here. PS: The toilets are also cleaner than they have been in years.

The toilets were dirty, and some were broken. I pointed this out to the rest stop staff, but they weren't willing or able to do anything because the toilets belong to an external company.

Filled up with gas for €60, ate and drank there, bought a necklace and then you're not even allowed to go to the toilet without paying for that too.

Friendly staff with everything you need on the road. You can grab a quick bite, or charge your car behind the station at the Unity charging stations. You can also get the required Austrian highway vignette if you go to Austria.

Misleading, because it says North Sea outside, also on the signpost on the motorway. Everything inside is closed... It doesn't work at all. The toilet seat was broken and stinks… absolutely cheeky for €1! I even lost my appetite for the coffee that was supposed to be available for the toilet voucher... Better drive past

A difference like day and night. Here we have showers outside, clean, odorless and nice staff. Completely different than opposite.

Ok, I'd say. The dining place is a bit expensive, but tasted ok. (18€ for the stuff in the photo) Really nice staff, nice ambiance.

Relatively clean, slightly confused service. Food good.

It was clean during our break in the parking lot and there weren't many cars.

Unfortunately, the stay at the rest stop was very unpleasant. Two coaches were full of passengers, and only one of the two toilet machines was in operation. Sanifair vouchers weren't being issued either. The restrooms were at least reasonably clean. Afterward, it was time to eat: the salad bowl was out, and otherwise there was only junk food (currywurst, fries, chicken nuggets, burgers). The chicken nuggets weren't even McDonald's quality (I don't even want to know what was in that mix).

Zuerst war Tanken angesagt, die Zapfsäulen wirken vergammelt, der Benzinpreis ist astronomisch hoch (50 Cents höher als wir danach fertig tankten), aber unser Tank war leer. Dann wollten wir einen Kaffee trinken, Selbstbedienung, aber so lange Warteschlange, dass der Kaffee wieder kalt war. Und es gibt nichts schlimmeres als kalten, abgestandenen Kaffee aus einem Brühautomaten. Nein! das Erlebnis war abartig und eigentlich unwürdig. Vermeiden!

1€ for Sanifair is ok if it weren't for the fact that the soap is empty and the floor is completely sticky. This works much better a few kilometers further south in Austria. Otherwise overpriced self-service station.

Expecting to find a North Sea restaurant (it's on the outside), we went hungry to this rest stop. Inside we were greeted with only leftover food. A few cold fried potatoes, a few sausages that had probably been there for hours. Since we were hungry, we had a breakfast plate full of fried potatoes and my husband had one of the aforementioned sausages and a few fried potatoes. Plus two small cold drinks. (Coca Cola and Fanta). We paid €32.00 for it and were very surprised at the amount. When we asked at the checkout how much the individual prices were (there were no prices for the dishes or drinks anywhere) the cashier told us that he didn't know the individual prices. We felt betrayed. But then we didn't say anything more because we finally wanted to eat. Unfortunately the food didn't taste good.

Dear operator of the rest area, The conditions in your toilets are subterranean. There are several toilets for both men and women that are unusable due to contamination. We stopped with a tour group, which meant €50 for toilet use. With one coach per hour alone, they covered the personnel costs for the cleaning staff. Nothing justifies such toilets contaminated with feces, especially since travelers stop at rest stops like yours specifically for this purpose. Shameful for a German gas station on the highway. Unfortunately, there were so many high piles of rubbish that you could no longer see the containers, dirty, non-functioning toilets, with a fee of one euro. Not recommended.

The Sanifair toilet was dirty and unkempt, something I've never seen before from Sanifair! The coffee in the run-down, dingy restaurant was lukewarm at best, the only thing that was great was the price

Unfortunately I have to give one star for this mill stop, otherwise you can't write your anger about such a situation. It was the most disgusting rest stop I've seen in the last 20 years. Stinky dirty toilet facilities and they charge €1 for that. You should stop by the hygiene office send them to close this mess🤮🤮

Disaster, landed at 2am and we felt so uncomfortable. Never again, I can't write the reason why.

In short: I had never experienced anything like this before. Completely overcrowded parking lot, lots of people, toilet line all the way outside, pungent smell and overpriced restaurant. You're happy to finally be back in Germany...

Actually, I'm not the type of person who writes reviews, but the gentleman at the checkout in the restaurant at this rest stop almost pissed me off today and made me do this. The man at the checkout was extremely unfriendly and became loud and aggressive when I expressed my opinion about prices and the redemption of Sanifair vouchers. Completely inflated prices. I would have liked to give zero stars, but unfortunately that's not possible.

Old and run-down rest area. There is trash everywhere in the parking lot. The toilets were partially broken, the toilet paper holder was torn out of the wall. The gastronomy is not up to date. Espresso for 3.39!!! The employee at the checkout hardly speaks any German and is unfriendly. The young colleague no longer has any teeth in her mouth. Welcome to Germany at the first rest stop after the border.

Sie wollten sich schon immer einmal einen Reisetag verderben? Dann sind die Raststätten "Donautal Ost" und "Donautal West" genau richtig für Sie. Es erwarten Sie dort nicht nur komplett vermüllte Parkareale und peinlich ungepflegte Toiletten, sondern auch das wohl unfreundlichste Servicepersonal, das Ihnen jemals untergekommen ist. Mit etwas Glück dürfen Sie sich sogar von einem Tankwart nach allen Regeln der Kunst rundmachen lassen, weil Sie z. B. nicht auf Anhieb wissen, welche Maut man für den Karawankentunnel benötigt. Und ganz nebenbei können Sie auch noch problemlos Ihren Tagesbedarf an "Muntermachern" decken. Es dürfte Ihnen oder Ihren Kindern ein Leichtes sein, rund um die Parkplätze achtlos weggeworfene kleine Tütchen mit seltsamen Inhalten zu finden, weiße Pülverchen, diverse Kräutlein oder hübsche bunte Pillen. Was wollen Sie mehr? Ach, Sie halten das alles für übertrieben? Dann probieren Sie es doch einfach aus, nur Mut! Sollten Sie hingegen zu den langweiligen Zeitgenossen gehören, die Fahrtpausen gerne zu Erholung und Muße nutzen und auf gepflegte Umgangsformen Wert legen: Die nächsten Rastanlagen sind (in beiden Richtungen) gar nicht so weit entfernt.

Very dirty and unfriendly staff

A subterranean, poor rest stop, filled with rubbish to the point where it's no longer possible. When I visited on September 2nd, 2024, the Sanifair urinals were all defective and covered with garbage bags. There was no employee anywhere to be seen who cared. The toilets were also extremely dirty. Soap and towel dispensers were broken or empty. What should you pay €1 for? There doesn't seem to be any employee responsible for the extremely littered outdoor area either. It looked like a garbage dump, only less sorted. It's an absolute shame that we offer such a picture to guests traveling through our country. The operator should be ashamed of himself! During subsequent stops at other rest stops, I saw a similar picture. Rest stops on our highways are becoming more and more of a disaster. Broken, dirty, no quality of stay, no service and totally overpriced! It's better to leave the motorway and find a nice, clean and inexpensive inn a little away. You'll definitely find an inexpensive gas station this way!

Sunday, September 1st, 2024 The Donautal service area is a complete garbage dump. How you can make money here with a non-existent service is unbelievable to me. The entire facility, including the toilets, is in a dilapidated condition and dirty. Unfortunately, I cannot judge whether the service staff is overwhelmed or not available. The employees on site tried to create some order, but apparently the chaos arose over time and was no longer manageable. If you can at all, avoid the rest stop - it's worth it!!

Rest area closed. You can only buy something in the gas station, but at exorbitant prices. e.g Bag of potato chips EUR 4.99.. Dirty and disgusting toilets, cleaning lady on site but not active..

Absolut letztklassig und dreckig. Tankstellen- bzw. Kassenpersonal total unfreundlich. Ein Teil des Restaurants geschlossen, der andere vollkommen versifft. Das Essen trieft vor Fett, einfach ungenießbar. Am Zapfhahn gibt es nur widrig süße Getränke, kein Wasser. Eigentlich sollte man vor der Abfahrt ein Warnschild aufstellen.

On August 30th, 2024 around 8:00 a.m. we drove to the rest stop. The outside area was unkempt and dirty. A traffic jam in the entrance to the toilet caused by a defective payment machine. The men's toilets were only moderately maintained. The paper towel containers were overflowing. My wife's description of the ladies' room exceeded my worst fears. Everything dirty, urine on the floor. The usage fees are an outrage. You should receive compensation. Not recommended.

Only the toilet, for which you have to pay €1, was open. Actually you should be paid the euro to go there, although it would still be far too little. And something like that in Germany...

August 28, 2024 - 1:20 p.m Rest area closed, although according to the internet it should be open 24/7. The visual condition of the facility resembles a garbage dump. Sanifair toilet system is bottom drawer. Most of the cisterns are out of order, dirty is putting it mildly and you pay one euro for that. Pure disgust. We refrained from trying to buy something to eat or drink at the adjacent gas station. You have to be afraid of getting something...
