Stepbergalm in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

The climb to the Stepbergalm was worth it! The food was good, the service was friendly and accommodating. There is also a wonderful view and many connections to further hiking trails.

Realistically, the food is about 3 stars, but you have to balance your expecations based on how remote the locations is, so you can't complain too much. The beer, service/staff and atmosphere are an easy 5 stars.

The hike itself to the Stepbergalm is one of the most stunning in the area and then you find this little jewel at the top. Absolute recommendation: the quality of the food (all handmade), the family atmosphere in the service, everything top!

There is nothing nicer than stopping off at the Alpine pasture after a mountain climb. In a picturesque setting framed by mountains and lush green meadows. Many sheep and cows graze there. The Kaiserschmarrn is highly recommended. A very lovely host, who overtook us on the climb, was open to us city dwellers. She gave us tips for the descent and helped us with various hiking materials. A huge thank you for that. She saved our day. Absolutely recommended.

Nicely located alpine pasture where you can recharge your batteries for the rest of the hike. It's nice to sit outside with a view of the Zugspitze. The service was extremely friendly and the food was also very tasty. Price-performance is top. You can't beat €4 for apple strudel.

We just had a drink here. However, the Alm is very nice and the staff are very nice!

Could not have wished for a better spot. Not only is it in a gorgeous rolling meadow between mountains, the selection of drinks and food is pretty good and not nearly as expensive as I would have imagined for it being the one stopping point on the side of a mountain. This place honestly also probably saved me from having some really serious heat stroke and dehydration issues after not bringing enough water on my Kramerspitz hike.

Very idyllic. With no cable car nearby, the hut is not overcrowded.

The prices are okay, but the pasta was a bit disappointing in terms of taste. A different cheese should be used as it ruins a lot

An incredibly great place Delicious food Great people And wonderful view

The alpine pasture is very beautiful and offers a relaxing break after a long hike. However, the organization of the service is rather poor. Instead of being able to order something at the counter and pay directly, the waitresses come to each guest's table. Our Alm was very crowded and ordering and paying took a long time, so we only ordered drinks. But the food generally looked very good and was certainly tasty.

After we were shocked by the mass tourism in the Garmisch region (significantly less Alpine romanticism than in other, including German regions such as Berchtesgaden or Oberstdorf; massive car traffic), I chose an Alpine pasture as my destination today that should come across as down-to-earth as possible. The Stepbergalm did everything I promised myself. Everything was just perfect, starting with the great host couple, who were perfect. There's always a nice chat. The hut is rustic but in great shape both outside and inside. Great meals, not everything is always there, but everything tastes great. The Kaiserschmarrn was one of the best I've ever eaten. Plus a homemade herbal lemonade that was really good. From here you can easily hike to Kramerspitz and stop off again on the way back :) Thank you for saving Garmisch's honor and our vacation👋

A really great alpine pasture on the way up to the Hohe Ziegspitze. Highly recommended.

In summer this cottage provides food and beverages. In winter it is closed. Either way it is positioned on a saddle between the highest summits of Ammergebirge with beautiful views of rhe surroundings and Zugspitze far south. The Kramerspitz is some 1 - 1.5 hour walk uphill to the east.

Unfortunately, there are unpleasant political posters hanging there, the content of which is completely wrong.

After a strenuous but great climb, a wonderful place to strengthen your strength. Super delicious food - very friendly hosts - even at the end of a season. We'd love to come back

We were in Garmisch at the beginning of September and after visiting the Partnachklamm, we hiked the 10 km distance, which is how we got to this place. We thought it was great, the fried meat was heavenly. Everything was wonderful for us.

Nach Besteigen des Kramers kehrten wir auf die einladenden Terrasse der Alm ein. Bei Sonnenschein genossen wir zwei kühle Helle, Pfannekuchensuppe & zum süßen Abschluss leckeren Kaiserschmarrn. Sowohl die freundliche Wirtin als auch das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis laden zu einer erneuten Einkehr ein. Sehr empfehlenswert!

Before the enjoyment comes the climb...which is tough...small alpine pasture with a magnificent mountain backdrop...the Kaiserschmarn was the best I've ever had...for that reason alone the climb is worth it

The meals, drinks and service are exceptional, you always have a wonderful view, you are warmly welcomed and you can have a great rest there. I would love to come back and can only warmly recommend this Alm!

Great mountain hut. Friendly staff and probably great views though it was thick fog when I got there. I only had a beer but the soup looked perfect for a mid-hike pick-me-up.

Fantastic location, great circular route possible. Service super fast and very friendly. Unfortunately, the Kaiserschmarrn was completely tasteless and simply tasted bland. No spices at all, nothing caramelized...it's a shame. Cheese press soup was delicious!

18 min waiting time after a happy hike. Cautious question in the hut at the threshold of the kitchen whether an order is also possible here. Answer from the blonder innkeeper's daughter: “You won't win what you have! Get out!” After numerous visits, orders of over 60 euros and generous tips, this was definitely the last visit.

Wunderschöne Alm mit tollem Blick. Der Kaiserschmarrn ist als der Beste weit und breit bekannt.

Eine Hütte wie man sie oft antrifft. 15 Min um eine Bestellung aufzugeben ist sportlich und somit noch Luft nach oben.

Guter Kaiserschmarrn bei schönem Ausblick. Es gibt leichtes Weizen. Der Weg hinauf und hinunter ist nicht ohne Mühe, aber jeden Schritt wert.

Since I was a baby I have been blessed to be able to go to Garmisch every summer to see my Oma and Opa! Sadly with them getting older and passing away the older I got the less we went there and went to Stuttgart. But I have never forgotten Garmisch and whew once you do this hike you won’t forget it either. Going up is the hard part..and up and up and up.. but once you are up there it is so worth it! One year my mom and I hiked up and didn’t realize it was Monday. But after a few days of rainy days it was a beautiful clear sunny day and the owner happily hiked up as well and opened the place up even though they are not open on mondays. We got so lucky!! I have hiked up here many times and when I go back I will do it again! Highly recommend and trust me it is worth it once you hit the hut! Happy Hiking!!

Der richtige Ort zum Akku aufladen, bei schönen Wetter ein super Ausblick. Das Essen ist sehr lecker. Ich denke hier komme ich gerne wieder.

Wunderschöne aussicht, gutes Bier und die Hüttenmakaroni waren sehr gut nach einem langen Aufstieg!

Sehr schöner Blick und vor allem ein Ort ohne seilbahnbedingten Massenbetrieb; die Wirtin selbst nicht sonderlich freundlich oder erfreut, Gäste zu sehen; auch recht dürftiges Angebot, nur weil der Tag von der Wettervorhersage her jetzt nicht so toll war (es gibt aber nun mal auch Naturgänger, die nicht nur bei bestem Postkartenwetter unterwegs sind)

Angeblich soll die Alm von Juni bis Oktober durchgehend geöffnet sein, stimmt nicht! Das ganze Jahr Montag Ruhetag.

Nach einem wunderschönen Aufstieg von Grainau ca 3 Stunden erreicht man die Stepbergalm in einer wunderschönen Senke. Die Wirte sind sehr nett und die Speisen und Getränke frisch zubereitet.

Disappointing that after a long hike it was closed. Especially since we picked the hike based on the restaurant website which confirmed it was open. See photo below. Defo not open. Appreciate things and situations change but try to maintain the website if possible. Thz

Visited after hiking the Kramerspitz mountaintop. Service like everywhere around here is not über-friendly, but the views are great and the Kaiserschmarrn was the best we had in the area.

Really nice place to sit and take in the view, its well placed for a break after climbing the Kramerspitze.

The food was good, but the menu is very limited. Maybe 6 choices total. The service was just okay. The hike up is amazing. Great trail head with a beautiful forest hike that leads to a small waterfall. About 40 minutes after the waterfall you run into the Stepbergalm. The views are amazing.
