This was our second visit, and the food was excellent in terms of both taste and price. The portions are generous, the menu offers something for everyone, and the staff are really friendly. 👍

We ate at the Hofbräuhaus am Johannistor in Jena and ordered schnitzel twice. Both dishes were really good, and the fries were even excellent – ​​no complaints there. The ordering and serving of the food were also quick, which is a definite plus. However, a major drawback was the behavior of the bar staff: they were loudly gossiping and complaining about absent colleagues – so much so that we, as guests, couldn't miss it. As a result, we also had to wait an unusually long time for the bill, as the staff were clearly more preoccupied with themselves than with the guests. It's a shame, because this unnecessarily overshadowed the good food. Overall, therefore, 3 out of 5 stars – there's room for improvement, especially in terms of professionalism and service.

I have to say the pork knuckle was incredibly delicious. The food and service were also top-notch and very friendly.

We had reserved a table here as a group and received a very warm welcome. The food was also really delicious. The appetizer was a selection of different items, which was truly tasty. The staff were very attentive and frequently asked if we would like something to drink.

The restaurant definitely deserves 4 stars as a location. The quality of the food is also excellent. However, the price for a meatloaf with egg and potato salad is a bit high considering the portion size.

I find it outrageous that, when you come in a group, you're given a different menu with a limited selection. It wasn't possible to order a pork knuckle – while other guests had no problem doing so. Even after asking, they refused to serve me. What's the point of that?! I understand that the kitchen can't keep up with an order of 15 pork knuckles. But everyone had already ordered – it would have only been one. Checking with the kitchen would have been good service. As a result, I only had one beer. Apparently, pubs in Jena are still doing too well. Therefore, this was my last visit, and I definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND IT!!!

In general quite enjoyable with tasty food and good service. But it has a strong soulless chain restaurant vibe. Plating is lack luster and uninspired.

It was a rather mixed experience. The food, especially the knuckle of pork, was very dry, but it was quite expensive. We were given the opportunity to peek into the kitchen, but what we saw was that some dishes were left standing for a while before they were fully prepared. As a result, some things were hot and others were lukewarm. There were also no gloves or chef's hats, which was rather unsightly, and we even ended up finding a hair in the potato salad. All in all, a shame; it had a lot of potential!

Be careful, if you order Backhändl, you will be served breaded chicken! You should read the menu correctly because it says “Backhändl Wiener Art”! A “real” bakery belongs in the Hofbräu! The knuckle was fine. The cake with vanilla ice cream was delicious! The air in the restaurant was stuffy and much too warm. The service was very nice and quick.

So I'm sorry, but as a Bavarian guest I have a lot to complain about. I took advantage of the offer that was available on Monday. So the pork knuckle was great, respect, just leave the skin on it, it's the best. But the no-go. Serving sauerkraut, mustard and bread with a knuckle at Hofbräuhaus is the last thing. It includes either coleslaw or warm Bavarian potato salad. I would also accept it if there was only a pretzel and horseradish. BUT leave the country bread with sauerkraut and mustard, it doesn't belong with a Bavarian knuckle!!!! I also had to laugh at the toilets. Either Lederwix/Dirndl or Buam/Madl but don't combine them.

Very unfriendly reception because we were under stress. Service tried hard and nice, but waiting times were far too long. Liver dumpling soup had to be heavily seasoned. Trying to get a second drink was very difficult. The music was horrible and loud. So we won't be coming back. Too bad. .

You're not doing anything specifically wrong, but the "AHA effect" is missing a bit... The joy of having a Hofbräuhaus in Jena is great! Mass of beer - top (great beer, attractive price)! Culture - top (service in traditional costume, equipment)! Service - is OK, some untrained staff Food - two hearts are beating in my chest here...some dishes are top and well thought out (e.g. Hackepeter, white sausages...), some are not presented optimally (hock should be served directly with dumplings, Obazder price is way too high, no salad with the schnitzel. ., there is a relatively high surcharge for other side dishes) and overall, in my opinion, all portions are simply too small. Unfortunately, our point that we were celebrating a birthday wasn't really taken into account (you don't have to, per se, but something like that is the cherry on the cake..) We will definitely be back, but we would be happy about small adjustments in the medium term... Greetings!

There are 14 of us in the restaurant and things couldn't be better. Sensational service responsive to all our needs. Allergy sufferers also get their money's worth here. The food is on point and simply delicious, the beer is fresh from the tap and drinkable… everything is wonderful. Fast and very friendly service, very appealing and relaxed atmosphere. We are in Munich about four times a year and every time we make a trip to the Hofbräuhaus. But the thing in Jena has nothing to do with it at all. Except for the map. Recommendation: NO

We were here as part of a private celebration. We liked it very much. The food was very good and plentiful. I had roast pork. Super tender and very tasty. It was our first time here, but definitely not the last...one more place worth going to.

We were there for my birthday. The food was good. Except for the Kaiserschmarrn. It was fried black on the bottom side. The waitress offered to scrape it off. I didn't think that was that good. We ordered a new one and it was fine. Otherwise everything was fine.

I think the new concept is fine. But I'm sorry that there are no more steaks... I would rather have paid more than not get any more steaks...

Ate roulades with classes on Saturday November 30th, 2024. The roulades were hard and dry, the cherries in the cherry red cabbage still had their pits. A treat to bite into. They graciously gave us a waiver, great. At least we'll never again.

The space is already adapted to the motto and something with a newer style instead of the rustic Hofbräuhaus, but you can't completely get the old steakhouse out of the building. Because there are only toilets upstairs, the restaurant is not for everyone. Unfortunately, the food wasn't such a great enrichment. The schnitzel was quite small and the color looked like it had been prepared in the deep fryer. There was also a mushroom sauce that wasn't entirely convincing either. Conclusion: good to drink, but I wouldn't eat it again. Sorry 😐

We were looking forward to a hearty Bavarian lunch, but were unfortunately disappointed. Sure, the food was okay, but we just missed the rustic ambience. The radio music in the background didn't fit into the Hofbräuhaus at all and the decoration also leaves a lot to be desired. Price-performance just wasn't right for us at all. Non-alcoholic drinks in particular are significantly more expensive than beer! Another disadvantage are the toilets on the upper floor, which can only be reached via a spiral staircase. You have to keep this in mind if you go there with people who are no longer good on foot. Thanks for the friendly service, but we probably won't be back. Too bad...

Personally, I had Obazda with pretzel as a starter which was homemade and very tasty. The main course was schnitzel, which the majority of the group also had. It was a decent homemade schnitzel but certainly not worth over 20 euros. The breading was not souffled like you would expect from a Wienerschnitzel. You can do the same thing at home! In addition, the fries on the side weren't really crispy, which is a shame. When we asked the service whether the optional potato salad was prepared with mayonnaise or the classic Austrian style with vinegar, the wrong information was given. It was Austrian but the service called it mayonnaise. Bad information, otherwise I would have ordered this. Overall OK. But I don't have to have it again.

This tasted like it came from the baked goods shelf in the discount store. In addition, when we arrived, there were reserved signs on virtually all of the tables, even though all of the tables were still free for at least 2 hours. So we almost left right away. Attention, the reviews also include those from the previous steakhouse! Old location, new concept, not very successful. We spontaneously went to the Hofbräu and wanted to grab a bite to eat. The tables outside were all empty, and they all had a reserved sign at 4 in the afternoon, even though the reservation was only valid in the evening. It's not inviting and we wanted to leave straight away. Next we were informed that there was nothing to eat at the moment, no hot food. Another way to sell it better is to have a typical Bavarian snack instead. I decided on a small portion of Obazda with pretzel. And then, people, 8.50 euros for a supermarket pretzel with a manageable portion of ready-made cheese, no thanks. Pretzel dry, Obazda tasteless. Never again. The service was nice, but seemed to have little experience.

The four of us had a great evening! The service was very friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our food. We all found the food really tasty and the price was right. Depending on the dish, the portions aren't that big, but that's good if you want to eat an appetizer and/or dessert. I was definitely full after my main course and dessert. Even as a vegetarian or vegan you have a good selection of dishes. We'd love to come back!

Tonight, Saturday, August 10, 2024, at around 8:45 p.m. we took a seat in the well-attended beer garden (right next to the main entrance). Every minute up to 4 different service staff appeared in the beer garden or looked out the door. There was neither a greeting nor our order taken. We were very happy to be able to test the new Hofbräuhaus in Jena after our summer vacation in Bavaria. After about 20 minutes, we asked a waiter if we could order, but he simply pointed out that the kitchen closed at 9 p.m. No drinks were offered. Too bad!

Burger for 20€ and then you get an old, flaky bun that has been swollen with water and has been baked again. That's quite a disgrace.

Die Steaks waren sehr gut und auf dem Punkt gegart. Die Beilagen Ofenkartoffel mit Saurer Sahne war nicht so der Knaller, aber es ging. (War nicht wirklich warm) Die Toiletten waren sauber aber nichts für geruchsempfindliche Menschen. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich.

Very nice restaurant, pleasant atmosphere. Without a reservation you definitely won't get a place on the weekends. Due to its size, it is very cramped with small tables in some corners. (2 person table) Service was great, nice and quick. You have to like the menu, which can be accessed digitally with your cell phone. I don't normally take my cell phone with me to a romantic meal. (I didn't ask for a real card) Ordered starters for 2 people, beautifully prepared, very tasty. It was quite a treat for the palate. Main course rib-eye steak with garlic bread and pan-fried Duroc schnitzel. So the “Pfannenschnitzel” looked like it would never have seen a pan, was far too dry and blandly seasoned. Ordered medium rib eye, it wasn't fried to perfection. Essentially English, so more raw than medium. Beautiful roasted aromas, completely absent. Meat was moderately tough. Very firm to the bite, but juicy. Impossible to cut with a “normal” knife. Not really anything special in terms of taste. For a “steakhouse” I definitely expect something better for this price. The selection of steaks wasn't great either, there are many special cuts, types etc but three types...hm. In any case, you can buy the meat from the butcher around the corner and it doesn't taste any worse. After all the top reviews I'm a little confused, but maybe it was one of the worse days. Conclusion: you can visit but you won't miss anything. Price performance, not appropriate for me.
