Went there for lunch with 10 people. It's clear that you'll have to wait an hour. The food was just warm when it came, unfortunately just before lukewarm. The portion of goulash and the number of dumplings are not really enough to fill you up without a starter. Otherwise the goulash was very tasty. Toilets are ok, nothing more and nothing less

We were a guest this afternoon and can only recommend it!

On Sunday I wanted to have dinner at "Alt Jena" at 5 p.m. because I had a short vacation in Jena. So far I have enjoyed eating there and it has always tasted good. That's why we wanted to have a little something to eat there after arriving in Jena. The entire restaurant was empty except for a few customers at the bar. Unfortunately we were greeted very rudely and were told that there was nothing left to eat. And that at 5 p.m. A very rude regular guest shouted after us that we should just come earlier. Very unfortunate. I will not visit this inn again on future visits to Jena. You could have at least asked what we would like to eat and definitely found a solution. But to get rid of someone straight away. Really unfriendly. This is not for me. The homepage also says that dinner is served until 6 p.m. on Sundays. So we ate at another inn and were very satisfied. Never again!

I'll keep it short. A really nice, rustic restaurant. Very, very nice service, tasty food, pleasant atmosphere. Pre-booking a table would make sense. What you should perhaps note is that the seating is mostly slightly elevated, more like bar stools. This may be a bit difficult for short or overweight people.

Salad like in the photo is not particularly good for the mega-cap price of €9.60

When the weather was great, we sat in the beer garden and celebrated Mother's Day. The food was delicious as were the drinks! Good prices. Very friendly service. And a taxi was ordered for us. Great! What a lovely cozy evening. We recommend. We will be back.

It was my first time in the 'Alt-Jena' inn and I was absolutely impressed by the outside. There is something quaintly small and cozy about it. Once you're inside, you don't even notice how time flies. A cozy evening with friends or family? Absolutely no problem here and the food is absolutely delicious and conjured up with love on every plate!

This is also recommended, because unfortunately some “spontaneous decisions” had to be rejected, which is not surprising on a public holiday

On May 1st around 3 p.m. we sit down at a table in the beer garden in front of the Alt Jena, just like we did every year before Corona, a little tradition. Someone I wouldn't have identified as the waitress (sports shirt? black sweatpants) comes to the table. “Drinks only.” Yes, thank you, I'm glad we're here too. "Kitchen closed at 3 p.m. because we have to do it at 4 anyway." I ask back: Don't want to make money? "Well, because of the holiday and stuff." Oh well, well then... We're leaving. By the way, we were served nicely 300 m beyond the market, sat until 7 p.m., ate and drank well and left a hundred euros. But if you don't need it... Sometimes people no longer understand gastronomy these days.

We went to the restaurant for lunch on a Saturday. The service was friendly and quick, drinks and food were delicious. We liked the selection of drinks and food, exactly what we expect from good home cooking. Highly recommended, great value for money.

We went there at 20h on a Friday night. At the door there was a sign indicating that kitchen was closing at 21h and the restaurant at 23h. Well, we were dismissed by «the kitchen is closed» when we told them that at the door was written that it was open until 21h, they said that it depends. Never seen this in my life.

So I don't understand the reviews here. I've rarely eaten as badly as I did there and the waiter was extremely unfriendly. The meat in both meals was undercooked. The vegetables are old or withered. Ok, the beer on site was delicious and the atmosphere was rustic. But that was all.

Wir waren mit einer Gruppe von ca 36 Personen hier und wurden sehr freundlich und professionell bedient und jeder noch so kleine Wunsch wurde erfüllt. Das Essen war mega toll angerichtet und sehr lecker. Es war ein unvergessener Besuch, über den wir immer noch schwärmen. Vielen Dank.

Ich war auf der Durchreise und bin hier gelandet. Leider war mein Würzfleisch als Vorspeise eiskalt, dies wurde aber sofort vom Kellner zurück genommen und ich bekam ein neues Heißes frisch überbackenes Würzfleisch. Der Service hier ist sehr nett und macht auch gern ein Spaß mit. An der Küche kann man noch arbeiten (Sauerkraut zu salzig, Röstiecken zu schwach gewürzt) , aber es war dennoch lecker. Ich komme sehr gerne wieder hier vorbei und teste die Küche. 😉

sehr gemütlich eingerichtet , die Bedienung war nett und zuvorkommend, die Speisenzusammenstellung war teilweise etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig - Zander mit Nudeln aber okay.

Schöne Gaststätte und fantastisches Essen. Auch die angebotenen Gerichte mit Kürbis waren sehr lecker und gut gewürzt. Aufjedenfall einen Besuch wert.

Vorbestellen, Platz bekommen, netten Service genießen, sehr gute und schmackhafte Küche, gern auch deftig thüringisch, was will man(n)/frau mehr? Echt eine Empfehlung für Jena! Kleine Ergänzung: Waren heute am 14.10.23 wieder im Alt Jena und müssen kritisieren, natürlich Google, denn mehr als 5 Sterne gibt es nicht. Auch heute wieder sehr gut, nettes und aufmerksames Personal, schmackhaftes Essen, gutes Ambiente, ehe ich mich hier als Fan outen werde, Fakt ist, es passt alles. Deshalb gerne 6 Sterne, ach nee,,Google lässt nur 5 Sterne zu.

Obwohl ich nicht reserviert hatte, fand sie für mich als Einzelperson umgehend einen Platz, bei einem offensichtlichen Stammgast am Tisch. Alt Jena ist eine Institution in Jena. Inzwischen ist das Restaurant sehr gut besucht. Während meines Studiums (1977-82) war das Restaurant geschlossen und so kam es, das jetzt zum ersten mal dort einkehren konnte. Das Ambiente im Erdgeschoss ist alt-ehrwürdig und erinnert an eine typische Studentenkneipe. Die gutbürgerliche Küche ist hervorragend und ohne Schnickschnack, die Portionen sind reichlich, die Preise kulant. Es gibt eine schöne Auswahl an lokalen Bieren, aber auch Damengetänke fehlen nicht. Der Service ist freundlich und schnell, wie man das aus guter Thüringer Gastronomie kennt. Jederzeit empfehlenswertes Gasthaus!

Essen ist sehr lecker! Wahren mit 13 Leuten da, essen ist leider nicht mit Mahl gekommen sondern immer in Etappen finde ich persönlich nicht so gut. Ambiente ist sehr schön nur sind immer irgendwelche Kinder gekommen und haben Lärm gemacht ( gescheit).

Lage ist gut und es ging schnell. Das Essen war nicht wirklich lecker, das meiste war TK-Ware…günstig war’s auch nicht. Nicht empfehlenswert:( schade weil man könnte es dort schön machen.

Bei einem Stadtrundgang am Markt zufällig dieses Gasthaus entdeckt und ohne große Erwartungen eingekehrt. Die freundliche Bedienung kontrollierte die Impfnachweise und wir konnten uns einen Platz aussuchen. Das Essen (Schnitzel und Tafelspitz) war kein kulinarisches Highlight, aber frisch zubereitet und gut gewürzt. Dür die aufgerufenen Preise jedenfalls o.k.

Wir hatten Rostbrätel, die waren ganz ok und ein Bauernfrühstück, das war nicht ok! Es schmeckte eher wie ein Eierkuchen mit einigen Kartoffelstückchen. Beides war reichlich. Die Bedienung war freundlich. Leider wurden die Räumlichkeiten nicht ausgenutzt um die Gäste wegen Corona zu verurteilen. Der Impfststus wurde aber geprüft.

Essens sehr gut, schmackhaft. Bierangebot vielfältig. Bedienung freundlich. Gute Lage. Die Freisitzfläche ist angenehm.

Durch Zufall landeten wir im Alt-Jena. Die Atmosphäre kann als urig beschrieben werden. Die Speisen konnten geschmacklich überzeugen, jedoch waren die Portionen nicht sehr groß. Das Personal war freundlich und die Bedienung erfolgte schnell.

Localino su due piani e arredato con gusto. Menù soddisfacente (per cambiare dal solito cibo tedesco ho preso una sogliola impanata) e buon vino bianco al bicchiere. Abbandonato al piano di sopra dalla cameriera che era andata di sotto a cenare sono andato a cercarla, ma mi ha rimbrottato che dovevo rivolgermi ad altri e non disturbarla mentre mangia. Mah!

Der Titel sagt eigentlich schon alles. Egal, ob man drinnen oder draußen sitzt, man fühlt sich einfach wohl. Die Bedienung ist sehr freundlich, auch wenn manchmal etwas forsch. Haben uns sehr freundlich bereits mit mehreren Kellnerinnen und Kellnern unterhalten. Das Essen gibt es zu sehr vernünftigen Preisen. Ich kann vor allem die Rotwurst wärmstens empfehlen. Wer also eine Kneipe zum gemütlichen Sitzen sucht, egal ob zum Essen oder für ein gemütliches Bier, der wird im Alt-Jena nicht enttäuscht!
