Oui! The food doesn't really impress me. The meat is usually just cooked sufficiently, and the salad is delicious. I bought the dark beer roast and wasn't really disappointed, except that it was a bit overpriced for the quality and quantity—just a small roast. Of course, the food is good, but for that price, there are simply better restaurants—like "Fritz Mitte," which is next door. I'm here in Jena to have a delicious meal. The reason for this is because I was visiting one of my loved ones—as I said, it's unacceptable for that.

Very nice restaurant with German cuisine!

A very nice, traditional inn with good Thuringian cuisine. It's located in the heart of the old town. Reservations are recommended here, too. The staff were friendly, there weren't long waits, and the food was very good.

Cozy restaurant with good food and a friendly atmosphere

Jena Schwartzbierfleisch was very good, my liver was nicely cooked but fibrous. We ordered Vorspeisensalat but unfortunately it was brought at the same time as the hot food, however it was removed from the bill without me asking. Otherwise good food, beer and service in a pleasant situation.

Very friendly staff, with a direct view of the market. The food and service were excellent. It's definitely worth a visit. The prices here are still reasonable.

I've been to Alt Jena for the second time in two months and I was impressed again. Great atmosphere, friendly waiter who's always quick to make a good quip, and the price/performance ratio is right. 👍 The food is delicious. Thank goodness there's another restaurant serving German cuisine in Jena.

We ate here; it's a cozy restaurant with friendly staff. The German and seasonal food is good and fresh. They also have a few outdoor seating areas, and the interior is definitely cozy and charming.

We had a wonderful meal in this restaurant. The asparagus with Hollandaise sauce and two hams is a seasonal must-try. The wild garlic soup is also nice. Then, wrap everything up with a panna cotta and a shot of schnaps! Good service, good price, clean toilets.

Went there for lunch with 10 people. It's clear that you'll have to wait an hour. The food was just warm when it came, unfortunately just before lukewarm. The portion of goulash and the number of dumplings are not really enough to fill you up without a starter. Otherwise the goulash was very tasty. Toilets are ok, nothing more and nothing less

We were a guest this afternoon and can only recommend it!

On Sunday I wanted to have dinner at "Alt Jena" at 5 p.m. because I had a short vacation in Jena. So far I have enjoyed eating there and it has always tasted good. That's why we wanted to have a little something to eat there after arriving in Jena. The entire restaurant was empty except for a few customers at the bar. Unfortunately we were greeted very rudely and were told that there was nothing left to eat. And that at 5 p.m. A very rude regular guest shouted after us that we should just come earlier. Very unfortunate. I will not visit this inn again on future visits to Jena. You could have at least asked what we would like to eat and definitely found a solution. But to get rid of someone straight away. Really unfriendly. This is not for me. The homepage also says that dinner is served until 6 p.m. on Sundays. So we ate at another inn and were very satisfied. Never again!

I'll keep it short. A really nice, rustic restaurant. Very, very nice service, tasty food, pleasant atmosphere. Pre-booking a table would make sense. What you should perhaps note is that the seating is mostly slightly elevated, more like bar stools. This may be a bit difficult for short or overweight people.

Salad like in the photo is not particularly good for the mega-cap price of €9.60

When the weather was great, we sat in the beer garden and celebrated Mother's Day. The food was delicious as were the drinks! Good prices. Very friendly service. And a taxi was ordered for us. Great! What a lovely cozy evening. We recommend. We will be back.

It was my first time in the 'Alt-Jena' inn and I was absolutely impressed by the outside. There is something quaintly small and cozy about it. Once you're inside, you don't even notice how time flies. A cozy evening with friends or family? Absolutely no problem here and the food is absolutely delicious and conjured up with love on every plate!

On May 1st around 3 p.m. we sit down at a table in the beer garden in front of the Alt Jena, just like we did every year before Corona, a little tradition. Someone I wouldn't have identified as the waitress (sports shirt? black sweatpants) comes to the table. “Drinks only.” Yes, thank you, I'm glad we're here too. "Kitchen closed at 3 p.m. because we have to do it at 4 anyway." I ask back: Don't want to make money? "Well, because of the holiday and stuff." Oh well, well then... We're leaving. By the way, we were served nicely 300 m beyond the market, sat until 7 p.m., ate and drank well and left a hundred euros. But if you don't need it... Sometimes people no longer understand gastronomy these days.

We went to the restaurant for lunch on a Saturday. The service was friendly and quick, drinks and food were delicious. We liked the selection of drinks and food, exactly what we expect from good home cooking. Highly recommended, great value for money.

We went there at 20h on a Friday night. At the door there was a sign indicating that kitchen was closing at 21h and the restaurant at 23h. Well, we were dismissed by «the kitchen is closed» when we told them that at the door was written that it was open until 21h, they said that it depends. Never seen this in my life.

So I don't understand the reviews here. I've rarely eaten as badly as I did there and the waiter was extremely unfriendly. The meat in both meals was undercooked. The vegetables are old or withered. Ok, the beer on site was delicious and the atmosphere was rustic. But that was all.
