Beautiful view of Jena and the nearby mountain ridges, such as Jenzig (385m) opposite with a dinosaur trail. The Fuchsturm can also be climbed at 30 m and after enjoying the wonderful view of the Saale Valley, you can enjoy a delicious beer at or in Jena's oldest mountain restaurant nearby. There is also a Touringen stamp office up here along the SaaleHorizontale.

Service and food get full marks. We had lunch with family in the Fuchsturm restaurant and were/are thrilled. Thank you. Keep it up 👍

A nice destination but I think you could do more with the outside area in terms of service. Unfortunately, the toilets or the drain? Stinked really bad even just walking past in the courtyard.

The location is a 10 out of 10 with its unique location. However, this time I was disappointed with the food and the service. We sat at the round table on the 1st floor. The lighting was dark and uncomfortable - it felt like it was just before closing time. The waiter - more of a lumberjack or stable boy type - uncouth and not a trace of good manners. Unfortunately the food was completely over-seasoned (over-salted). Too bad...that was better.

I was there to attend a birthday party invitation. We went there with a car as it is in the outskirt of Jena. It is also possible to hike there. Just takes a while. We had lunch and I ordered Ochsenbacke. The service was fast and the meal was tasty, atleast for me. Not all of us were happy with our meal though. The amount of salt in the sauce and onions in the Rinderroulade were not balanced. If you want to enjoy a small family gathering with a good view, this is a very good restaurant to do so. Right beside of the restaurant you have viewing tower where you can have an amazing view of Jena. I had a good time there.

Ordering food takes forever, waiting for 1 hour is not normal and the food was delicious

We ate here on Christmas Day. There was a buffet, which wasn't bad in itself but it wasn't well organized. We got a good table, we sat on the edge. The guests sitting in the middle always had the waiting guests behind them. Unfortunately the queue didn't decrease either because there were a lot of guests or the food had run out. The buffet should have been set up so that you could serve yourself from two sides. But I suspect that the kitchen would have really reached its limits. Because they haven't been able to avoid waiting times. The offering was good but some of the food was cold. There was a menu on the table but unfortunately no price for the buffet and there was no drinks menu. The staff was friendly and the first round of drinks came quickly.

A great excursion restaurant with very nice service and very good food.

Wir wollten heute zum ersten Weihnachtsfeiertag gemütlich am Buffet essen gehen. Wir kamen an, soweit alles gut. Uns wurde der Platz gewiesen & die Aufnahme der Getränkebestellung verlief zügig. Nun machten wir uns eine Etage höher auf den Weg zum Buffet. Auf den ersten Blick sah alles toll aus. Wir konnten unsere ersten Teller füllen & gingen zum Platz zurück. Leider war der Hirschgulasch total fettig, die Rosmarinkartoffeln kalt & das Gemüse lauwarm. Als wir eine zweite Runde starten wollten gab es eine laaaange Warteschlange & nach dem 3. Versuch noch einmal einen Nachschlag zu ergattern haben wir auf. Auf Nachfrage, ob wir uns dafür etwas mitnehmen dürfen (wir haben es bei anderen Gästen gesehen, dass sie vom Personal Assietten bekommen haben) wurde uns gesagt, dass dies so nicht eingeplant wäre. Auch der Preis war ein kleiner Schock....da teurer als uns gesagt wurde. Fazit: enttäuschend

We visited the restaurant as a family and had a very good meal there. Very nice service.

We went to the Fuchsturm for lunch (buffet) today (December 25th, 2024). This idea itself is really great. But the implementation was really lacking in the end. So from the beginning...we arrived & the drink order was taken quickly. We had to go up one floor to get to the buffet (perfectly ok). We were able to fill our first plate without having to wait in line. Unfortunately, most of it was only lukewarm. (Vegetables lukewarm, rosemary potatoes cold!, venison goulash completely saturated with fat). When we wanted to treat ourselves to a second round of food, everything was empty and the guests were standing in really long lines...that can happen. We tried three more times... but it remained empty. Too bad. When we asked the waitress if we could take something with us (we saw that some guests had done this and had also received containers for it from the other waiters) we were told that this was not planned and we were not allowed. And to address the final downer...the price. We asked beforehand how much this would cost. Well...we ended up paying more than we were told. When asked about this, we were told that these were the prices. Sorry...but that's not possible!

Hearty, delicious Thuringian cuisine. Fast and very friendly service. And if you want to enjoy your coffee quickly while standing outside the door, then that's no problem at all. 😉 There is also a fantastic view either into the Ziegenhainertal or on the other side over to Jenzig. And if you would like to do a bit of sport, you can climb up to the Fuchsturm (former keep) and enjoy the all-round view from there...

Nice excursion restaurant with a great view over Jena and good food.

Excursion destination, restaurant and event location in one. Highly recommended for birthdays, weddings and other events. It is also possible to stay overnight in modern rooms (bridal suite). A climb to the top of the Fuchsturm is a must and you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view over and around Jena. Good cuisine in a rustic style The atmosphere of the Fuchsturmgesellschaft invites you to linger. Parking at the stone cross you can hike in many directions. You can also reach your destination by taking bus number 16 from the city via the small, cute mountain village of Ziegenhain. Have fun!

Big birthday party with lots of guests. Nevertheless, individual food selection is possible. Very good cuisine, everyone enjoyed it. Very quick, friendly service - everything was perfect. Many thanks to the entire Fuchsturm team... You gave us wonderful hours.

Located in the middle of Jena's horizontal, surrounded by mixed forest. Which is now showing its colors in autumn. Great restaurant, with delicious food and attentive service and a nice ambience. You can park at the Steinkreuz and walk around 2.4 km or use the parking lot at the Fuchsturm. You pay a parking fee of €2.50 for 24 hours. When the restaurant is open, you can also climb the Fuchsturm. From above you have a great 360 degree all-round view. You can take a nice walk there.

A destination worth seeing for young and old. There are several paths leading to the Fuchsturm and the Fuchsturm can also be reached by car.

Today I had dinner at the Fuchsturm. Unfortunately very disappointing. I ordered half a portion of roast lamb. Also the regular price is 19.90. Only 1 euro was deducted for half a portion. The quality was not satisfactory. The meat is tough and the sauce is very over-seasoned (over-salted) Too bad

We've been there many times. Food is great, the view is even better. Anyone who is in Jena for the first time should come to the Fuchsturm.

We took a wonderful autumn walk and went up the tower. There is a large parking lot in front. From there you can walk wonderfully. When you arrive, there is a nice restaurant with Thuringian food and drinks. At the top of the tower you can enjoy a wonderful view of Jena, the Landgrave and the surrounding area

You have to pay 2.50 to get into the parking lot. I think it's totally okay. If you don't want to pay, take the free one and walk the 2 km. The tower can be climbed free of charge. Great view. It's worth stopping by. Super nice waiter and the food, baked potato with herb sour cream, absolutely delicious.

I've been up here at the Fuchsturm several times and have always been absolutely thrilled. The ambience is cozy and inviting, perfect for lunch or dinner with friends. The service deserves huge praise - attentive but not intrusive. The view from the Fuchsturm is simply brilliant. Many thanks to the Fuchsturm team - keep it up

We had lunch in the beer garden - the location is really beautiful, the food is ok - we had roulades and venison goulash.

I always enjoy being up here, with many wonderful memories of my student days.

We were there for dinner with 12 people and we were all very enthusiastic about the food. The wait was a little longer, but that's the same when you come unannounced with so many people. Otherwise, as I said, the food was really great, great ambience and very nice service. Highly recommended.

Walked up specially, closed company, nothing to eat, nothing to drink. Impudence!

Beautiful location. The kitchen is probably good too, but it closes at 8pm (in summer). For a southern German it takes a lot of getting used to. Two ⭐ deduction because I had to go to bed hungry today.

Wonderful place above the rooftops of Jena. The view is beautiful. On the hot day we enjoyed cool drinks and delicious food on the terrace. The guys and girls from the service are in a great mood and pass that on to the guests. People are happy to give a tip. We like to come here regularly.

Today we decided to visit the Fuchsturm and try out the restaurant there, the view is really breathtaking, it's definitely worth a trip! The selection of dishes was, well, a little more choice would be nice and a daily special would also be desirable. We had the beef roulade with dumplings and the venison goulash brought to us, the food was good. But the cook will be very in love, because both of our meals were too salty. After a while we felt like we had desert in our mouths. The portions were normal and ok. We paid 56€ with 3 drinks and 2 main courses, which is ok, but the view over Jena is priceless. A little tip, a corner for children to play, seat cushions for the somewhat hard chairs would be advisable & LESS SALT. :) The service was very friendly, no complaints. The toilets were very clean.

Service not very accommodating. The goulash soup didn't deserve the name, it was more like solyanka with meat crumbs.

Nice ambience, but the food could be improved. From the meat to the side dishes, we have eaten much better in other restaurants.

A wonderful place inside and out! The view is fantastic, the ambience of the building is historic, cozy and well-kept. The beer garden is also worth mentioning. The menus offer a wide range of options. The waitresses are friendly and on the ball. My choice is the 250 g portion of asparagus with Dutch sauce and parsley potatoes for €15.90. (You can also get a portion of asparagus that is twice as heavy). The food tastes delicious, the asparagus is cooked to perfection. Conclusion: nothing to complain about, 5 stars ..... You can park a few hundred meters away for €2.50.

Once again a Sunday dinner like it is in the book: roast lamb with dumplings and green beans and asparagus with potatoes and schnitzel. Delicious!!! Thank you and see you soon.

Nice destination for a hike. In summer under the large trees with a beautiful view of the valley.

One of three excursion restaurants with a great view and the oldest castle restaurant near Jena. Can be perfectly integrated into a wall, but can also be reached in just a few steps from the parking lot. Very popular with tourists and locals. The keep of Kirchberg Castle (built from 1100), which is still preserved today, is called the Fox Tower. It can be climbed during the opening hours of the Fuchsturm restaurant, which is highly recommended. From there you have a magnificent all-round view. From 1861 onwards, the Fuchsturmgesellschaft was committed to the preservation and maintenance of the complex. The Fuchsturm Restaurant is always busy, there are several rooms and in summer they also serve in the large courtyard. If you want to go with a larger group, it's cheap to reserve. The menu is varied and the service is friendly and quick.

Food is mediocre. When it's 30 degrees in the sun there are no umbrellas (heat stroke is inevitable). Called 1 day before and was told the grate was burning, which was also not the case as requested. Price performance of the food too expensive for portions that are too small.

Typical and delicious food! The portions were generous and the service was excellent. It's about a 7 minute walk from the parking lot to the restaurant, but the short walk is definitely worth it

If you like it quaint and rustic, you've come to the right place. Ideal for hikers to warm up and strengthen themselves. The menu is concise and clear and rather hearty hiking boy fare and nothing for the veggie friend!! The selection of drinks, on the other hand, is amazing and makes up 70% of the menu. There is also a good selection on a special children's menu, a coloring book can be purchased for €2.50 (what happened to the simple copy?) The service was very friendly and easy to talk to. The food was good, but not outstanding. Some components are a matter of taste, the red cabbage is rather mushy, the beans are probably only blanched and still very, very crunchy, but tasty and easy to digest, and the potatoes are also rather firm in nature. The price is not surprising these days when the piece of meat on the plate also comes from the farmer around the corner... All in all a good average. The crowning glory is the view from the tower. Priceless. ☺️

The family celebration for my 50th was wonderful. Very nice atmosphere, great surroundings, far above Jena in the middle of the countryside. Very good food, courteous and always friendly staff. We felt very comfortable and it wasn't the last time we were guests. Highly recommended 👍👍👍

A beautiful view over the whole of Jena is simply amazing. 😁

The four of us were guests the day before yesterday and were very impressed. The service man was nice and friendly and relaxed. We had different dishes and all of them were very well prepared and presented (you can also present Brussels sprouts as beautifully as they do here). The restaurant itself is in such a wonderful location that there is always something to look at - even while eating. We'll be back 💪!

The hike to the Fuchsturm and the grounds are beautiful. The service in the restaurant, on the other hand, is snippy. The question of which cake was on the cake plate was answered stubbornly and incompletely. The seasoned meat for €7.90 from a can or something similar was the worst seasoned meat I have ever eaten. Drinks would be ordered with ice cubes. There was no sign of you while serving. When I asked, the only answer was that they were already there. Yes, great - melted. A classic example of where service and food quality don't play a role because there are enough day-trippers coming to the Fuchsturm anyway.

Surroundings, facility great Service; when she comes, she seems nice Eat; sorry but my penne was nothing! I didn't find a single mushroom in it, 2 rings of leek and the quantity was quite manageable. I went home hungry. A pity! We would have expected more.

Unfortunately I can't say much about it because on Easter Sunday from 2 p.m. there was only coffee and a little cake. We thought it was a shame.

Excellent hospitality in a charming landscape. If desired, there was also just 1 dumpling with sauce for a little hunger in between. Extremely friendly service.

We hiked to the Fuchsturm from the center of Jena. There are several advancement options. The view of Jena from above is great. You can also go to the Fuchsturm and have a great view. Service and food were very good.

Food was tasty, Thuringian cuisine

Stopped in during a hike on the Jena Horizontale hiking trail. The tower and the restaurant are open, you can visit the tower free of charge, just take a few steps to the top and enjoy the beautiful view. If you're hungry you can stop off in the restaurant, there's plenty of hearty food for those hungry big and small, including waffles, Kaiserschmarn and ice cream. There are also plenty of wine, beer and cold drinks. If you want to sit outside it is self-service and the only savory delicacies sold are soups and sweets. All other food must be eaten indoors. Food and drinks are a bit pricey, but with the beautiful view... you can't drive to the Fuchsturm, the parking lot is about 1 km away. There are toilets here. There is no playground for children, but it's not that bad, the entire hiking area is a playground. Nature and adventure trail, e.g. B. look for fossils in limestone rock.

View great. Unfortunately, the staff was unable to serve drinks to more than 10 people who we wanted to have outside. Statement from the waiter: “I’m confused” I don't know what you'd want to do in the summer... If it's really crowded. Hiked 4km almost “for free”… but a richer insight… we won’t be coming here again. 🤷‍♂️

If you're a hiker hoping to fill up your bottle with tap water, you're in the wrong place. I was instead told that I could buy a bottle of water for a price that was beyond good and evil. I am very disappointed with this attitude and therefore cannot recommend it.

Sehr schöne Räumlichkeiten, zuvorkommende Bedienung und eine sehr interessante Speisekarte mit leckeren Gerichten.

Es lohnt sich der Ausflug. Wenn man einmal etwas laufen und dies mit einen Essen verbinden möchte. Daher immer schauen ob offen ist! Dann bekommt man auch immer eine freundliche Bedienung und ein gutes und auch frisches ! Essen.

Ein uriges Gasthaus mit sehr freundlichem Service. Gegessen habe ich bisher nur eine Panna cotta, die sehr lecker war. Klare Empfehlung, vor allem auch, wenn man aus der Stadt zum Fuchsturm wandert und sich die heiße Schokolade sozusagen "verdient" . ☕️🍫

Wir waren mit der Familie dort und haben lediglich draußen warme Getränke zu uns genommen. Die Aussicht ist sehr schön, hatten aber auch gutes Wetter.

Zum Fuchsturm ist es eine Wanderung wert, man wird mit Freundlichkeit im Thekenbereich empfangen und zu Tisch begleitet, dabei bleibt ein lustiger Spruch nicht aus. Das Essen ist sehr appetitlich und man kann Speisen verzehren, die man nicht alltäglich zu Hause kocht. Der Service und das Ambiente, lassen keine Wünsche offen und ein Wiedersehen ist garantiert... Gastronomie wird hier echt GROß geschrieben.... weiter so👍

War das erste Mal dort oben und muss sagen es hat sich der Weg da hoch gelohnt!!!das Essen war(Hirschgulasch)sehr mir sehr gut geschmeckt außer die Klöße die waren net so meins!!freundlicher Service die auch ein Spaß mit machen!!alleine wegen den Shows die dort statt finden muss man Mal dort hin!!man hat(wenn man net abends dort ist)einen mega Ausblick auf Jena!!immer wieder gerne!!!

Ich mag den Fuchsturm seit meiner Kindheit

Das Restaurant liegt neben dem Aussichtsturm und ist sowohl mit dem Auto, dem Fahrrad und zu Fuß von Jena aus gut zu erreichen. Die Lage ist wunderbar, der Service ist flott und freundlich. Beim Essen darf man nicht zu viel erwarten, unsere vegetarische Nudelportion war eher als Vorspeise geeignet.

Schönes Ausflugsziel. Gute Speisekarte. Gern wieder!
