Located high above Jena, it offers a beautiful view. So, this place is worth a stroll. The restaurant at the Fuchsturm serves excellent food. The atmosphere is wonderful, and in good weather, you can sit outside. All in all, a successful outing.

I don't know what was better: the view from the beer garden or the food?! Both were fantastic. And then there was the climb up the tower. A very nice outing.

The Hochwerts Trail was our destination. The Fuchsturm is a traditional, old restaurant. The decor is simple and reflects the connection to the origins and its members who support the Fuchsturm. The food is occasionally typical of Thuringia and modern. After hiking, the Fuchsturm is a good place to refuel.

It's a great place to jog or hike up. The staff is friendly but quite direct. The tower is a great height, and the surrounding nature is simply wonderful. There's plenty of parking, but running is lowkey cooler!🥹

After a somewhat steep walk to the tower, we were rewarded with a beautiful view. Don't forget to take a tour of the tower. The beer garden is beautifully laid out, the service is super friendly, and the food is excellent. A must-visit. You can also park your car nearby. I highly recommend this restaurant.

The best thing here is the view. You can drive very close by car. There's a parking lot, almost at the Fuchsturm, for a small fee. Open parking spaces are electronically displayed. Walking is also possible. There are good opportunities for hiking and enjoying the view. Climbing the tower is free. The food was okay, for me. The service was good too. The restrooms are simple but clean.

Very nice atmosphere and nice staff

The ambiance is great because of the view, but that's about it. The chairs are hard and uncomfortable, and the food isn't good for the price (the penne with chicken was too salty, the cream sauce tasted more like a roux, and the chicken was watery; there were only four tomatoes in it). Unfortunately, we were very disappointed.

We returned after two years and left disappointed after our visit to the restaurant. The food was tasty, but the portions have gotten smaller, and the price is way overpriced. Charging €25 for a Wiener Schnitzel with mushrooms is outrageous. And our granddaughter's small apple spritzer cost €3.50. My large beer, however, only cost €4.50. At least the kids' menu was very good, both in terms of selection and price. In the future, we will only use the Fuchsturm as a hiking destination and take our food out of our backpacks.

We spontaneously hiked to the Fuchsturm today. Very friendly service. Great selection. We'd love to come back.

Access by car is possible, with approximately 50 parking spaces (€2.50 fee). From this parking lot, the Fuchsturm is quickly accessible. The outdoor area is tidy, and you have a fantastic view of Jena. The food was served quickly, and the portions were generous. The price is reasonable for me. As mentioned in other reviews, you should definitely climb the 100-plus steps up the tower. It's really worth it. I almost forgot, the service was excellent!

The Fuchsturm tower is located on section 2 of the Saale-Horizontale and is a great starting point and viewing point. Visible from almost everywhere, the trail is well signposted. Once you arrive here, you can grab a bite to eat; there are plenty of places to sit outside. It's busy here when the weather's nice. You can also climb the tower. It's nice that it's still free. You have a fantastic view from the top. The path then leads back down, no matter which route you take. It's well-preserved.

Wir hatten uns nach einer kleinen Wanderung sehr auf die Küche des Fuchsturms gefreut. Der Kellner war auch sehr nett und der Gastraum gemütlich. Es wurde zur Spargelzeit auch auf der Karte aktuell mit Spargel geworben. Die Spargelcremesuppe war komplett versalzen. Mein Freund erbarmte sich, sie aufzuessen. Der Kellner gab uns recht, dass sie schon sehr sehr grenzwertig war. Das war es dann aber auch seinerseits. Das Hauptgericht - Spargel mit Kartoffeln und Sauce Hollandaise hat ganz gut geschmeckt. Allerdings musste man die Kartoffeln im Vergleich zur Fertig-Hollandaise mit der Lupe suchen. Zum Nachtisch habe ich mir einen Eierschecke-Kuchen bestellt. Der ging gar nicht. Total künstlich. Fazit: wir gehen hier nicht mehr hin.

Beautiful observation tower with a great view over Jena. The tower is free to enter and you can donate to maintain it. There is a pub with indoor and outdoor seating. Good starting point for countless hikes.

Very nice place, it gets very crowded, they do some events, like violin concerts.

Unfortunately the quality of the food was not good. Charging €24 for a pork schnitzel and then serving cheap frozen food is pretty bold. Unfortunately, the ox cheek wasn't braised long enough and was therefore a bit tough and flaxy. The location is of course great and the service was great, but we were annoyed about the food.

A very pleasant place with traditional German cuisine. Soup was a really small portion but fitted well as a starter for the large main course. Huge Kaiserschmarm for dessert. Nice swift service. We enjoyed the place!

Everything fine. Youth consecration in a small group of up to 10 people, everyone was very satisfied. From the service to the food / large portions. Our invited guests were thrilled, especially since nature also made its contribution... beautifully located and the tower was also accessible. We say thank you for the pleasant hours.

Disappointing visit for Easter Sunday. With bright sunshine and lots of hikers...lunch is not possible on the Fuchsturm. Due to a lack of staff, it is absolutely understandable that the beer garden is self-service. But the fact that there is no indication on the website that eating food is only possible with a reservation, let alone that everything is already fully booked for Easter Sunday and NO lunch is possible for all spontaneous guests, is simply weak. You can imagine that the guests also want to eat something. But it's nice for the operator...he seems to be doing so well that he doesn't have to rely on guests.

1. You have at least a distance of 1 km (from the 2nd parking lot, you have to pay) or a path from the free large parking lot of about 3-4 km to the Furchsturm, the good thing is that it is almost flat, only to the Fuchsturm itself it becomes a little steeper for a short time (10 meters maybe) The short hike goes along wide fields and a little forest. A nice thing for dogs and children, because both are warmly welcome in the rustic restaurant. (Dogs get water bowl) Food was super tasty. And anyone who wants to climb to the real Fuchsturm will be rewarded with a view of Jena

I just love it up here. Service is quick, super nice terrace, delicious drinks and food. There was a coloring picture and crayons for the child. Perfect!

Good food, friendly and fast service, great view of Jena. The morning singing will take place at FuTu on September 3rd, 2023. On September 1st there will be another morning singing with 5 choirs. On Saturday, March 29th, the Fuchsturmgesellschaft cleaned the paths and the tower and brought it into shape. Next appointment is April 17th, 2025 for cleaning.

Very good food. A large beer garden with a great view. It's easy to walk there, but you can drive almost there for a parking fee. You can also climb the tower.

It's always nice to hike to this spot and then enjoy the view of Jena. If you want to hike, you can park your car at the stone cross. Then it's a good 2km to the Fuchsturm. There's also a parking lot near the Fuchsturm. This costs €2.50 for a day ticket. I think that's okay. We only had a few drinks, so I can't comment on the prices or quality. But the service was very friendly, despite the large number of guests and virtually no free tables...

Nice destination. You can drive there directly for a fee or walk about 1.6 km from the first parking lot. It was a lot of fun with the family.

Beautiful view of Jena and the nearby mountain ridges, such as Jenzig (385m) opposite with a dinosaur trail. The Fuchsturm can also be climbed at 30 m and after enjoying the wonderful view of the Saale Valley, you can enjoy a delicious beer at or in Jena's oldest mountain restaurant nearby. There is also a Touringen stamp office up here along the SaaleHorizontale.

A nice destination but I think you could do more with the outside area in terms of service. Unfortunately, the toilets or the drain? Stinked really bad even just walking past in the courtyard.

The location is a 10 out of 10 with its unique location. However, this time I was disappointed with the food and the service. We sat at the round table on the 1st floor. The lighting was dark and uncomfortable - it felt like it was just before closing time. The waiter - more of a lumberjack or stable boy type - uncouth and not a trace of good manners. Unfortunately the food was completely over-seasoned (over-salted). Too bad...that was better.

I was there to attend a birthday party invitation. We went there with a car as it is in the outskirt of Jena. It is also possible to hike there. Just takes a while. We had lunch and I ordered Ochsenbacke. The service was fast and the meal was tasty, atleast for me. Not all of us were happy with our meal though. The amount of salt in the sauce and onions in the Rinderroulade were not balanced. If you want to enjoy a small family gathering with a good view, this is a very good restaurant to do so. Right beside of the restaurant you have viewing tower where you can have an amazing view of Jena. I had a good time there.

Ordering food takes forever, waiting for 1 hour is not normal and the food was delicious

We ate here on Christmas Day. There was a buffet, which wasn't bad in itself but it wasn't well organized. We got a good table, we sat on the edge. The guests sitting in the middle always had the waiting guests behind them. Unfortunately the queue didn't decrease either because there were a lot of guests or the food had run out. The buffet should have been set up so that you could serve yourself from two sides. But I suspect that the kitchen would have really reached its limits. Because they haven't been able to avoid waiting times. The offering was good but some of the food was cold. There was a menu on the table but unfortunately no price for the buffet and there was no drinks menu. The staff was friendly and the first round of drinks came quickly.

A great excursion restaurant with very nice service and very good food.

Wir wollten heute zum ersten Weihnachtsfeiertag gemütlich am Buffet essen gehen. Wir kamen an, soweit alles gut. Uns wurde der Platz gewiesen & die Aufnahme der Getränkebestellung verlief zügig. Nun machten wir uns eine Etage höher auf den Weg zum Buffet. Auf den ersten Blick sah alles toll aus. Wir konnten unsere ersten Teller füllen & gingen zum Platz zurück. Leider war der Hirschgulasch total fettig, die Rosmarinkartoffeln kalt & das Gemüse lauwarm. Als wir eine zweite Runde starten wollten gab es eine laaaange Warteschlange & nach dem 3. Versuch noch einmal einen Nachschlag zu ergattern haben wir auf. Auf Nachfrage, ob wir uns dafür etwas mitnehmen dürfen (wir haben es bei anderen Gästen gesehen, dass sie vom Personal Assietten bekommen haben) wurde uns gesagt, dass dies so nicht eingeplant wäre. Auch der Preis war ein kleiner Schock....da teurer als uns gesagt wurde. Fazit: enttäuschend

We went to the Fuchsturm for lunch (buffet) today (December 25th, 2024). This idea itself is really great. But the implementation was really lacking in the end. So from the beginning...we arrived & the drink order was taken quickly. We had to go up one floor to get to the buffet (perfectly ok). We were able to fill our first plate without having to wait in line. Unfortunately, most of it was only lukewarm. (Vegetables lukewarm, rosemary potatoes cold!, venison goulash completely saturated with fat). When we wanted to treat ourselves to a second round of food, everything was empty and the guests were standing in really long lines...that can happen. We tried three more times... but it remained empty. Too bad. When we asked the waitress if we could take something with us (we saw that some guests had done this and had also received containers for it from the other waiters) we were told that this was not planned and we were not allowed. And to address the final downer...the price. We asked beforehand how much this would cost. Well...we ended up paying more than we were told. When asked about this, we were told that these were the prices. Sorry...but that's not possible!

We visited the restaurant as a family and had a very good meal there. Very nice service.

Hearty, delicious Thuringian cuisine. Fast and very friendly service. And if you want to enjoy your coffee quickly while standing outside the door, then that's no problem at all. 😉 There is also a fantastic view either into the Ziegenhainertal or on the other side over to Jenzig. And if you would like to do a bit of sport, you can climb up to the Fuchsturm (former keep) and enjoy the all-round view from there...

Nice excursion restaurant with a great view over Jena and good food.

Excursion destination, restaurant and event location in one. Highly recommended for birthdays, weddings and other events. It is also possible to stay overnight in modern rooms (bridal suite). A climb to the top of the Fuchsturm is a must and you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view over and around Jena. Good cuisine in a rustic style The atmosphere of the Fuchsturmgesellschaft invites you to linger. Parking at the stone cross you can hike in many directions. You can also reach your destination by taking bus number 16 from the city via the small, cute mountain village of Ziegenhain. Have fun!

Located in the middle of Jena's horizontal, surrounded by mixed forest. Which is now showing its colors in autumn. Great restaurant, with delicious food and attentive service and a nice ambience. You can park at the Steinkreuz and walk around 2.4 km or use the parking lot at the Fuchsturm. You pay a parking fee of €2.50 for 24 hours. When the restaurant is open, you can also climb the Fuchsturm. From above you have a great 360 degree all-round view. You can take a nice walk there.

A destination worth seeing for young and old. There are several paths leading to the Fuchsturm and the Fuchsturm can also be reached by car.

Today I had dinner at the Fuchsturm. Unfortunately very disappointing. I ordered half a portion of roast lamb. Also the regular price is 19.90. Only 1 euro was deducted for half a portion. The quality was not satisfactory. The meat is tough and the sauce is very over-seasoned (over-salted) Too bad

We've been there many times. Food is great, the view is even better. Anyone who is in Jena for the first time should come to the Fuchsturm.

We took a wonderful autumn walk and went up the tower. There is a large parking lot in front. From there you can walk wonderfully. When you arrive, there is a nice restaurant with Thuringian food and drinks. At the top of the tower you can enjoy a wonderful view of Jena, the Landgrave and the surrounding area

You have to pay 2.50 to get into the parking lot. I think it's totally okay. If you don't want to pay, take the free one and walk the 2 km. The tower can be climbed free of charge. Great view. It's worth stopping by. Super nice waiter and the food, baked potato with herb sour cream, absolutely delicious.

I've been up here at the Fuchsturm several times and have always been absolutely thrilled. The ambience is cozy and inviting, perfect for lunch or dinner with friends. We were there for dinner with 12 people and we were all very enthusiastic about the food. The wait was a little longer, but that's the same when you come unannounced with so many people. Otherwise, as I said, the food was really great, great ambience and very nice service. Highly recommended.

Beautiful location. The kitchen is probably good too, but it closes at 8pm (in summer). For a southern German it takes a lot of getting used to. Two ⭐ deduction because I had to go to bed hungry today.

Wonderful place above the rooftops of Jena. The view is beautiful. On the hot day we enjoyed cool drinks and delicious food on the terrace. The guys and girls from the service are in a great mood and pass that on to the guests. People are happy to give a tip. We like to come here regularly.

Today we decided to visit the Fuchsturm and try out the restaurant there, the view is really breathtaking, it's definitely worth a trip! The selection of dishes was, well, a little more choice would be nice and a daily special would also be desirable. We had the beef roulade with dumplings and the venison goulash brought to us, the food was good. But the cook will be very in love, because both of our meals were too salty. After a while we felt like we had desert in our mouths. The portions were normal and ok. We paid 56€ with 3 drinks and 2 main courses, which is ok, but the view over Jena is priceless. A little tip, a corner for children to play, seat cushions for the somewhat hard chairs would be advisable & LESS SALT. :) The service was very friendly, no complaints. The toilets were very clean.

Nice ambience, but the food could be improved. From the meat to the side dishes, we have eaten much better in other restaurants.

A wonderful place inside and out! The view is fantastic, the ambience of the building is historic, cozy and well-kept. The beer garden is also worth mentioning. The menus offer a wide range of options. The waitresses are friendly and on the ball. My choice is the 250 g portion of asparagus with Dutch sauce and parsley potatoes for €15.90. (You can also get a portion of asparagus that is twice as heavy). The food tastes delicious, the asparagus is cooked to perfection. Conclusion: nothing to complain about, 5 stars ..... You can park a few hundred meters away for €2.50.

Once again a Sunday dinner like it is in the book: roast lamb with dumplings and green beans and asparagus with potatoes and schnitzel. Delicious!!! Thank you and see you soon.

One of three excursion restaurants with a great view and the oldest castle restaurant near Jena. Can be perfectly integrated into a wall, but can also be reached in just a few steps from the parking lot. Very popular with tourists and locals. The keep of Kirchberg Castle (built from 1100), which is still preserved today, is called the Fox Tower. It can be climbed during the opening hours of the Fuchsturm restaurant, which is highly recommended. From there you have a magnificent all-round view. From 1861 onwards, the Fuchsturmgesellschaft was committed to the preservation and maintenance of the complex. The Fuchsturm Restaurant is always busy, there are several rooms and in summer they also serve in the large courtyard. If you want to go with a larger group, it's cheap to reserve. The menu is varied and the service is friendly and quick.
