The ambience is nice and the food is really tasty. The waiting time is minimal. The friendly service seems present but not intrusive and the prices are okay. The portions are very large, I would have preferred to eat and pay a little less for the main course and still have room for dessert. Unfortunately, the toilets weren't at all pleasant during our visit and so overall we get a good 4 but hardly a 5. Nevertheless, we will definitely visit again.

We were looking for a brasserie with typical dishes without being in the folklore we found the Schwarzer Peter by Google and we found the place, the service and the dishes great.

Very tasty schnitzels and perfect fried potatoes! Can only be recommended. Important: reserve a table in advance.

Somewhat outdated furnishings or deliberately chosen that way. It was full and the guests didn't seem to mind. Not even us, we were there to eat and it was delicious!

Honestly a great place for the famous german food, simple yet delishes! Froendöy staff who had plenty of patience with me still learning the language!

Unbelievable meal here - really down to earth and great food. It’s authentic German…my wife had the spaetzle with mushroom sauce and I had the schnitzel - both were fantastic and big portions. Recommend the Keller bier on draft….

Went out to this place last night and had a great meal. The Schweineschnitzel mit frischen champignons was amazing and crispy, and it came in a pair, the staff were super welcoming and nice, they kept checking on me if I was enjoying my meal or needed anything. I would recommend it for locals and foreigners since the staff is multilingual.

We ate plentiful and good dishes: cutlets served with potatoes and salad and really excellent pfannkuchen spinat mit gebratenen. Informal setting and candlelit dinner (perhaps a little too dark). Advised!

Encontrado por pura casualidad como fuera de la pista turística. Gran ambiente, el lugar ha estado allí durante años y no se han aburguesado. Tiene una sensación bien vivida. El menú ofrece algunas opciones veganas y vegetarianas, así como el menú carnoso alemán más tradicional. Estaba delicioso y muy copiosamente servido. El personal era muy servicial - era el final del día y yo estaba empezando a luchar en alemán.

Very nice restaurant outside the tourist chaos of Heidelberg. It really seems like a neighborhood place, frequented by locals. Quiet and well-kept residential area. Very good cuisine, generous portions and fast, kind and attentive service. I would stay here again!

Authentic german Bar/Restaurant.

Very nice and informal with outdoor tables in a street with little traffic. They have baby seats. We didn't like the food. We both got a meat but one was dry and too full of pepper. The other, or in horseradish breading, did not convince us in terms of taste. I wouldn't go back. I saw many vegetarian dishes.

Food good, drinks and atmosphere nice. The only problem I had was that we reserved a table and specifically specified an outside table, only to find that all the outside tables were reserved that day and ours was at the very end, under the corner. We were told that we couldn't take other reserved tables because they were specifically reserved. What does that even mean? It was my first time there and if I knew what the different options were, I would definitely mention it. Overall, the service was unfortunately not very friendly.

Fragrant restaurant, the waiters are great, not stiff but in the middle of life. Great food, very good prices for the great taste. All guests and the waitresses treat each other like a big family. I will definitely eat there again when I'm in the area. Great and flawless Black Peter and his team.

The food was ordinary and nothing special, we were promised more. Service was OK. Ambience like it is on the street. The food that was handed out all looked pretty good. There probably won't be a second time.

We ate here twice while staying in Heidelberg and enjoyed everything. By our American perspective, the portions are very generous and well priced which seems to be a consistent theme in Germany (the food looks smaller in the pictures, but seriously it is almost two servings for me). I enjoyed the range of food and beer offerings. Such as my first time trying Münchner schnitzel which I enjoyed. Their dishes typically include a high quality side salad which was good. The staff is also generally nice.

Down-to-earth, large restaurant. Food was delicious and very large portions. Priced well below the restaurants in the city center. Delicious beer and friendly service. If I lived in Heidelberg, I could imagine coming here regularly.

A nice restaurant in a residential area that is certainly a kind of living room for those around it. Food was sumptuous and Riesling spritzer was very well mixed. Were there twice within three days... That says it all...

Lovely cosy atmosphere. An oasis away from the tourist traps of Heidelberg. A little way out of town on the tram (26 I think) but well worth it. Anything with Bratkartoffeln is excellent.

Very good traditional location in the Weststadt. Particular specialties are the fried potatoes and the pancakes. Only recommended!

A nice place to have a supper in Heidelberg. We ordered pork schnitzel, spätzle with cheese and caramelized onions, a side salad and glühwein. Both dishes were delicious, although I found the spätzle too heavy - I couldn't finish even the half. It was really tasty (especially the cheese crust and the caramelized onions), but there was too much cheese (I never thought I will say something like this in my life), and even the salad couldn't make me eat more of the spätzle. I would totally love the spätzle if it was in the same amount that the side salad served with the schnitzel. Unfortunately, it was too much for me, even though I was hungry. But that's just me, maybe it's the right amount for other people.

Update February 8, 2024: Two years ago, or before Corona, I was here once or twice a week. Since the change of operator there have been a number of price increases while at the same time the quality of the preparation has fallen. Meanwhile, my favorite dishes have increased in price by 90% 😡, mashed potatoes with meatloaf and two fried eggs have risen to €18.90 and there is only 1 fried egg, the accompanying salad has been reduced to a minimum... The omelet with minced meat was last time completely failed and should now cost €16.90... also a price increase of 80 percent... Whether the reason is greed, incompetence or something else, it doesn't matter... I feel sorry for the employees... I was just about to try again, but because of this new price increase I left the restaurant really very disappointed... This used to be the dining room of the Weststadt... this is where the residents of the district met for delicious food and social gatherings... 'small, personal stories' are shared, just as current world political events are discussed.. .always nice...reserving makes sense... :-)

The Black Peter is a great pub and I like going there. However, the new prices shocked me. I understand minimum wages, higher energy prices and VAT. I had a salad with smoked trout for €17.80 and I have to say it was more than puny. Small quantity, little fish and not even enough for a whole egg. The salad dressing was also saved. Conclusion: I save the money and prefer to eat at home.

The food wasn't particularly big, but it was incredibly tasty! I had the vegetarian schnitzel and it was so crispy! We found the fried potatoes a bit too salty. Otherwise, I think the portion size is appropriate and today's prices are just a bit more expensive. Unfortunately the service was a bit “slow”. I barely came by to take another order and then it took a very long time for the second round of drinks :( it's a shame! But otherwise I'll be happy to come back!

Alles prima hier, leckeres, reichliches Essen, netter Service, typische Studentenkneipenatmosphäre. Preise O.K., superlecker der Schokokuchen zum Dessert.

Gut bürgerlich und absolut lecker wie bei Omi. Alles war frisch zubereitet und schön angerichtet. Da schmeckt es gleich nochmal so gut. Handgemacht eben, keine Fertigware. Wir kommen bestimmt wieder.

We had been in this restaurant last year and had enjoyed it so decided to return. What a huge disappointment! The food was dreadful. Undercooked baked potatoes, old dried up bratkartofflen and tasteless schnitzel. Would definitely NOT recommend this place to anyone who wants to enjoy their food.

What a wonderful place to get an authentic German meal. We were the only foreigners in the place and were treated like family. I read reviews of long waits and no credit card machine before going and neither were true. We were served quickly and the food was fantastic. At the end, we paid with credit card. The fried sausage with potatoes was phenomenal. We spent €40 for dinner and a drink. Highly recommended.

I love this place. I come here for special events with my family, like my birthday, graduation or celebrating other things. I love the food, the portions are big and it tastes very good. The waitresses are also very nice and kind, not hectic or stressed or anything like that. No need to wait for anything too long either. What I love most is the atmosphere. It’s very cozy and feels homey with sparse, warm lighting and candles. In the summer, it’s very comfortable to eat in the little bamboo-wall area they have in front of the restaurant. I could live there. My favorite restaurant in Heidelberg. Would definitely recommend ❤️

A delightful neighbourhood eatery in Weststadt. Lots of typical German fare AND... a great selection of vegetarian food. Look at these veggie Bratwürste 😋 . Very pleasant service too.

Great English menu that helped explain some items! Nice staff very accommodating. Two kids 2, 4 and they have high chairs. Love the kid menu too!

Auf einem spontanen Stop von Frankreich 🇫🇷 zurück nach Berlin abends im Schwarzen Peter gelandet : super freundlich… familiäre Atmosphäre… für Montagabend gut besucht… Schlachteplatte mit Scheibe Saumagen Leberknödel Bratwurst Kraut Stampfkartoffeln und Sauce und Senf 16.80 € und Grauburgunder 6.50€ für 0,2 … waren zu zweit beide Essen und Bier / Wein sehr ansprechend Gut zu empfehlen

They have a sign saying "please wait, we will show you to your table," but they actually expect you to just seize a table in the normal German way. While I waited, all the tables were taken...

Gute Deutsche Küche, jedoch auch Salate und einige vegetarische Gerichte. Bedienung sehr freundlich und achtsam Biergarten auf dem Bürgersteig, nett angelegt bei Einbruch der Dunkelheit gibt es für jeden Tisch einen Lampion. Besonderen Flair hat die Siedlungsatmosphäre der Weststadt mit seinen ich vermute größtenteils Gründerzeit Häusern Bei nächster Gelegenheit kehre ich hier gerne wieder ein.

Je nach Essen recht kleine Portion und teuer. Da empfehle ich eher das Restaurant Krokodil, ist nicht weit entfernt.

Nette individuelle Mitarbeiter, gute gutbürgerliche Küche, schöner alter Innenausbau, keine Muiskbeschallung. Der Inhaber kocht selbst - man merkt das.

Mein Mann und ich sind immer gerne in den schwarzen Peter, es ist gemütlich und das Essen eigentlich immer lecker, aber heute wurden wir so enttäuscht das wir erst einmal nicht mehr hin gehen werden. Ich hatte Spätzle mit Pilzen und Bratensauce bestellt zu 14,50, habe Käsespätzle bekommen zu 12,50. Bezahlen mussten wir den Preis zu 14,50 + 2,50 extra für die Bratensauce. Der Kellner war extrem unhöflich und argumentierte das damit das es mein Fehler war. Sorry Schwarzer Peter, ihr habt mir das falsche Essen serviert und nicht umgekehrt.

Tolle Karte mit einer guten Auswahl an Gerichten. Lecker war es zudem. Die Preise sind zivil. Die Portionsgröße völlig in Ordnung. Die Location ist ruhig gelegen. Schwierige Parkplatzsituation. Straßenbahn fährt aber vor der Tür entlang.

Essen ist traditionell einfach, aber sehr gut! Insofern kulinarisch eine absolute Empfehlung, für diejenigen die bodenständig Küche lieben. Der Service ist noch deutlich ausbaufähig, man kann leider auch mal für längere Zeit „übersehen“ werden.

Uriges Lokal mit gutbürgerliche Küche. Es hat sehr gut geschmeckt. Weil die Wartezeit auf das Essen etwas länger war, gab es eine Vorspeisensalat aufs Haus für den ersten Hunger.

Walking past and finding them fully booked on a Saturday, we returned on Sunday and glad we persevered. Friendly staff, lovely setting, really tasty food. A whole vegetarian section on the menu with vegans options so great chance to try veggie versions of traditional German fare. Despite being full we tried the puddings and loved them all. If you want to go on a Friday or Saturday night be sure to book in advance.

Habe vor ca. vier Wochen angerufen, um für eine Gruppe aus 20 Leuten zu reservieren. Wurde am Telefon absolut unmöglich abserviert. Gestresster Herr am Apparat, der sich keine Minute Zeit für mein Anliegen nahm, sondern mir mitteilte, dass der Laden voll sei und er "keine Zeit hätte, sich jetzt mit so etwas auseinanderzusetzen". War vom Ton schockiert und werde vorerst nicht wiederkommen. Wir haben den Abend dann in einem anderen Restaurant verbracht. Wirklich schade.
