Super delicious food and coffee. However, I think 35 euros for breakfast for two is too steep. The equivalent of around 7 euros per slice of bread with toppings. Just wow! So I wouldn't eat there again, it's for higher earners, unfortunately!

Great view, very attentive service - thank you Timo! - and delicious breakfast! The omelette was just right, completely cooked but not brown, delicious mushrooms and delicious mountain cheese on it and the side salad had just the right amount of dressing. We enjoyed it very much! PS: If you sit outside this early in the year, you will even be spared from the wasps.

Visit website for easy reservation and you will get a table even on the weekend. It is a small castle and the dining room is beautiful with high ceiling looking very medieval. The food is fresh and very tasty. The coffee is excellent with a dark flavor the harmonized with the milk. It is plenty of food. I can recommend walking up the hill. The view is nice and there is a big Terrasse.

We were there for breakfast. Wonderful selection. The scrambled eggs were very 😋tasty, pleasant portion. There was also mini chia seed pudding. Stopped in today for coffee after a nice walk in the nearby Black Forest foothills. Very nice atmosphere, delicious cake and friendly service. What more could you want?

Staff urgently needed! Extremely overcrowded on Sundays, long waiting times, very loud, bad air. But the cuisine and setting are first class, so I give it 3 stars. Table reservation via the website is mandatory!

We had lunch here on Sunday. Without a reservation we would not have been able to get a free place. The menu is not very large, but sufficient for us. Food was tasty. The staff very friendly and helpful.

Well, what was going on? Planned service and the food was better too. The salad with goat cheese, which I had often eaten here, has been transformed into a salad with minimalist raw vegetables and breaded baked goat cheese. In the end it all seemed a bit higher quality to me. And panna cotta in the soup bowl is also a new variation, which I don't think is successful. The service was tried hard but unfortunately also really messed up. It would be nice if the previous standard came back in this great place.

The acai bowl cost the equivalent of 28 DM, but was delicious. The acoustics in the room are a bit unfavorable, it is quite loud when it is full. A big plus point is that you can only dine here among the wealthy, without having to deal with the ordinary foot soldiers.

Chocolate wasn't hot. We weren't allowed to order from the bartender at the bar and had to wait for the waitress to take our order.

Nice place, the food is also great, I can definitely recommend it, especially if the family is visiting or just like that :)

Price performance is not right. The pieces of cake and the portions are small. Especially the cheesecake. A no go for the price. The price of coffee is overpriced. However, the taste is very good. The waitresses are sleepyheads. The ambience is great. Unfortunately there are a lot of wasps in the summer season.

We had a magical breakfast here today. Not only our taste buds were spoiled here today, but also our eyes. The dishes were prepared with a lot of love and were therefore a feast for the eyes. I can only recommend it.

Unfortunately there are very long waiting times, the coffee is almost cold by the time the food arrives. 100ml tap water costs 50 cents for the first coffee. For the second 1€. I was able to celebrate my 50th birthday here on the beautiful terrace! Christian Albert and his great team did a fantastic job. I can only absolutely recommend the castle cafe for the ambience, the view but especially the service! Thank you again for the wonderful celebration.

I have enjoyed visiting the castle café for many years. Yesterday at breakfast for the three of us, the general staff shortage became extremely noticeable. Two people had to serve the large, completely reserved outdoor area and two tables inside - I felt sorry for the waitresses (several guests changed their tables on their own due to a lack of shade?/wasps?), which made me even more appreciative of the great friendliness of “ours”! Cheers! We had to wait almost 1 hour for the actual breakfast (drinks came relatively quickly), our reorder of fresh juice + cappuccino came shortly before we had to leave after 2 hours. Apparently there is also a shortage of staff in the kitchen? The breakfast itself was good as always (“real” scrambled eggs!), although there used to be better baguettes.

We went to the Schloss-Cafe for brunch the week before last and were negatively surprised. When we arrived we were escorted to the table, but then the waitress left immediately. We didn't get the tickets nor could we order drinks. We were then asked twice if we needed the cards. We answered “yes” to this question both times. It took a while until we could place our order. We then waited a very long time for our order. We didn't get a spoon for the bowl or the breakfast egg, but we got 2 knives and 2 forks per person :D In our opinion, the service was well stocked but poorly organized. Unfortunately we won't be coming anymore.

I came here on the recommendation of my grandmother and I have to say that I was not disappointed. Our waitress was extremely nice and funny. Our food came very quickly and all of our special requests were fulfilled with love. The food was very tasty and there was also an extremely beautiful view. I can only recommend it! Gladly again!

Were there for breakfast. Unfortunately, our reservation was "wasted" despite confirmation and reminder via email. Luckily we got a table (unfortunately without a view). P/L didn't suit me personally for breakfast. The portions were too small for me. A croissant and a bun more would be better. Few parking spaces available. EC payment possible. Nice personel.

We had to wait over an hour for food, with a very small menu. None of the waitresses said a word of apology. The portions were very small. At "Schniposa" spaetzle instead of fries costs 2.50 more, that's what it says on the menu. Sauce was also offered, but it was not mentioned that this would also cost an additional 2.50. At least one of these extras could have been waived as compensation. I am very disappointed.

We had the King Ludwig breakfast for €30 for two (vegetarian=more cheese). We were pretty disappointed with the record. There were 6-7 slices of Edam, 2 small slices of Camembert, 2 mini slices of other cheese and 2 balls of cream cheese + butter on the plate. It wasn't beautifully presented at all and the rolls were baked and not from the bakery. Oh yes, on the plate there was half a small tomato, 6 scattered grapes and 2-3 mini slices of melon and pineapple to fight over. You can probably tell 😅 I really didn't think it was much and I would have had a much better breakfast at home.

Nice location, friendly service. However, we wouldn't go there for breakfast anymore. The price/performance ratio isn't right for us. The coffee and cappuccino were subpar. Of the four decorative grapes on the plate (for 2 people), 2 were rotten. Something like that can happen in bulk, but it shouldn't happen with four decorative grapes. Unfortunately, breakfast didn't convince us at all.

We had breakfast with colleagues and were able to sit outside with a view of Freiburg. Just lovely. Great menu, a bit unusual and therefore highly recommended. There are alternatives for all intolerances, so nothing stands in the way of culinary enjoyment. Very friendly staff. We recommend.

Great view, food ok, service slightly overwhelmed, small children's voices and lots of large, chattering halls: it's extremely reverberating in these rooms - unfortunately not for the hard of hearing or highly sensitive.

You can have a really good breakfast here and word gets around. It can quickly become very crowded, especially on a public holiday. So it's better to reserve in advance, then you'll get a table outside and the usual good breakfast there. The service was very attentive.

We came at lunchtime. The restaurant was well attended outside. In some of the rows of tables the chairs were placed at an angle. There was already a group sitting in one of them, so we took a seat too. Staff kept walking past us, making eye contact but not speaking to us. It was only after more than 10 minutes that a young lady came and informed us that this row would not be served due to a lack of staff. But the group behind us would be served because they knew the boss. What else can I say. It used to be a really recommendable address, but apparently not anymore.

Food was lovely here, so no criticism of the kitchen staff. But the woman serving was unbelievably rude. I came with my sister and they serve a 0.4l pot of tea, I ordered this and asked for 2 mugs so that we can share, and she refused. I thought initially this was a language barrier, but no - she was serious. It is 'verboten' 😂 my sister ordered eggs, I ordered avocado. After she refused the second cup I jokingly asked if it was OK for me to swap one of my avocado toasts for her egg, or if that was 'verboten' as well, but she straight-facedly told me it was also not allowed!! Hilariously ridiculous overextension of her position, needlessly rude.

Delicious food, nice staff and a great view. The castle cafe is a great starting or finishing point for an extended hike. In summer you can also sit outside.

For 1L of tap water you pay €5.60 and this is not mentioned when ordering. “It’s on the menu” (at the back under “table water”). For us students who wanted to have breakfast there on a nice day and for whom the avocado toast for €12 was already a big deal, this made the entire visit €11 more expensive. Maximizing profits without considering the little ones or the old people who might be a little thirstier after climbing the mountain on a hot summer day. Pooh.

I've had "service" experiences three times now in the cafe on the terrace that ruined the whole afternoon and still leaves me shaking with unpleasant feelings about the impudent manner of the waitresses, who, even though there were four of them, couldn't manage an acceptable service Service and then were cheeky when you were surprised after half an hour that you still hadn't received a card. I'll definitely never go here again. The beautiful place always attracts you, but the experience clearly makes you say no. Simply outrageous. You could also see the tension on the faces of the other guests. Restaurant is probably a different number, I can't say anything about that.

Looking for a cozy place with a great view to eat with family/friends? Then this is the right place. No matter whether it's 'fancy food' or classic, everyone will find what they're looking for. Recommendation: King Ludwig breakfast for 2 people. Everything is lovingly prepared. Coffee is average. Flammkuchen are also very tasty, just like the cake. Be sure to reserve!!

Great view - food could be better considering the prices

I would have preferred not to come at all! When the weather is nice you want to sit outside, but unfortunately the self-service service in the castle café is just outrageous!!! You have to run in and out to order drinks and food and pick up the food and drinks with a tablet!! I even had to go inside to pay. Instead of being a guest, it felt like I had to work directly in the castle café and then a tip was expected. I would have preferred to give 0 stars. NEVER AGAIN !!!!

After a beautiful circular walk, we stopped at the castle cafe. It's very cozy there, with a great view. In summer I imagine it would be even better on the outside terrace. There are delicious cakes and other dishes. It's a good place to stop off.

Totally and idyllic location. The brunch was great and the service was very friendly and special requests were no problem. Unfortunately it was still very cold here, but when the temperatures are warm the terrace is also a dream. You should just make a reservation in the summer so that you are sure to get a spot. I would really like to go there again.

Our lunch actually deserved 0 stars. 1 main course was forgotten when eating, only because a side salad didn't come. Then 1 of 6 main courses came 20 minutes earlier than the rest, by the time the other main courses were there the person had already finished eating (by the way, everyone had ordered schnitzel). Schnitzel with spaetzle is served without sauce, which you have to order and pay for separately. Dry spaetzle very tasty. We ordered sauce from the start, but it arrived 20 minutes later, so the schnitzel and fries were cold in the meantime. So all in all, no recommendation! It's better to accept fewer tables and get better service.

Since I haven't lived in Freiburg for years, I'm here far too rarely. But IF, then I'm always thrilled! Today we were there again for breakfast and I got my money's worth with a very tasty acai bowl and scrambled eggs with ham. A very good coffee and a very friendly service person made this morning perfect. I'm looking forward to the summer, when you'll often find me here for breakfast in the beautiful outdoor area.

Come here regularly for breakfast. Simply very nice atmosphere and nice service. In my opinion, the portions have become smaller and a small piece of butter is definitely not enough for breakfast. It's a shame that you have to pay for a second little piece. Nice view and the terrace is great in summer. Reservations are advisable.

Contrary to what some others have reported, there is nothing to complain about in terms of service. Maybe it could be even faster... But we were served quickly and very nicely. And above all, without any hassle. The ambience and quality can be ranked at the top. Our breakfast was more than delicious, the selection may not be great but it was good and completely sufficient. We had a beautiful view over Freiburg. Just a little sun would have been nice. Ultimately it was still a very nice stay. It's not cheap or inexpensive, but still worth every euro. A wonderful view of the city from the terrace. We were there late in the evening, a beautiful old house. The winding route up the mountain to the house is also an experience. The food, there were four of us, was plentiful, very appetizing and generously prepared. Well worth a visit in any case. The price-performance ratio is also good.

Sehr lecker und sehr freundlich

Seit mehr als 10 Jahren kommen wir zum Frühstück hierher. Leider hat die Qualität mit den Jahren nachgelassen. Preis und Leistung stimmen hier nicht mehr. Die Brötchen waren nicht frisch, der O-Saft vermutlich ein günstiger Nektar, hier erwarten wir bei dem Preis leider etwas anderes. Nichts wofür man so viel Geld bezahlen möchte. Zudem gibt es kein Kinderfrühstück. Service und Ambiente waren wie immer toll.

Wir waren zu zweit zur Kaffeezeit im Schlosscafe Freiburg. Vorab, der Service ist grenzwertig. Zuerst wurden wir nicht bedient. Nachdem wir uns mehrfach gemeldet hatten war der Service Mitarbeiter ,gelinde gesagt, sehr flapsig. Anstatt eines Chai Tees wurde eine Chai Latte gebracht, der angemahnt Tee kam dann nicht mehr. Beim Bezahlen wurde der Mitarbeiterin unsere Beschwerden mitgeteilt, worauf diese antwortete: gutes Personal ist nur schwer zu finden und dann das Restgeld einfach auf den Tisch geworfen hat.

Sehr schönes Café mit tollem Frühstück. Sehr freundliches Personal. Es gibt zwar wenige Parkplätze aber man findet doch irgendwo ein Plätzchen am Straßenrand. Wir würden jederzeit wieder kommen, trotz des abenteuerlichen Weges nach oben. 😄

Ein toller Ausblick über Freiburg lädt zum Verweilen ein und man wird nicht enttäuscht. Guter, freundlicher, sehr zuvorkommender u hilfsbereiter Service. Ein schönes Ambiente. Eine gute Schwarzwälder Kirsch, was will man mehr. Ein Wiedersehen ist gewiss. Dann im Frühjahr oder Sommer.

Dss Essen schmeckt lecker, das Personal ist größtenteils unfreundlich und unqualifiziert. Ist leider sehr sehr laut, wenn es voll ist. Wollten ein paar reste mitnehmen, kostet Geld. Wow, noch nie erlebt.

Leckeres Essen und Ambiente aber leider sehr labgsames und unqualifiziertes Personal. Auf die Frage nach dem WLAN Passwort wurde nur gesagt, sie wüsse es nicht. Eine halbe Stunde haben wir auf unseren Tagessaft gewartet und dann nochmal eine Stunde auf unser Essen. Also bringt Zeit und Gedulf mit, dann lohnt sich das Essen.
