It was a truly fantastic experience. Making a reservation was easy. The food was excellent (they have Wiener Schnitzel (veal) on the seasonal menu). The service was super attentive without being intrusive. Prices were on the higher side, but it totally lived up to expectations. I would recommend it without a second thought.

The interior is very cozy and inviting, and the service is friendly. My tagliatelle with porcini mushrooms was okay—the herb-roasted chanterelle mushrooms on top surprised me. The porcini pieces were soft-boiled and drenched in sauce.

I've known Grandma's cooking since college, which was a long time ago... It's developed very positively. The food selection is excellent. The regional origin of all ingredients is indicated. The vegetarian menu is exceptionally well-stocked. The staff is very friendly. We felt very well looked after.

Everything is just perfect here! We even got a table on a Friday evening without a reservation – with a toddler. Great play area, super delicious food, a varied selection, and super tasty ice cream :-) The kids' menu is also great! (The potato rosti was a bit too greasy for our taste...) I had schnitzel with "Brägele" (sausages) and was really disappointed. The schnitzel was small, tough, and had a soggy coating. The "Brägele" (sausages) were also soft and completely saltless. Unfortunately, we won't be coming back.

I have been visiting this restaurant occasionally over the past two years and have generally enjoyed their kitchen—especially the Pfifferling-Suppe, Kalbsleber, and Spätzle. It’s a mid-range place, slightly expensive, but the cozy atmosphere and location justify the price. Unfortunately, my recent visit was disappointing. The Kalbsleber I ordered was about 35% burned (verbrannt), turning the meat tough and bitter. The dark sauce absorbed this bitterness, making the entire dish unpleasant. I politely asked for the chef’s opinion and was told via a colleague that “this is how it’s prepared,” which I found dismissive. I could only eat a bit of Spätzle and salad. When food is over-roasted, sugars and proteins carbonize, producing acrid compounds that overpower flavor and render dishes unappetizing—especially concerning with nutrient-rich liver. As someone who appreciates traditionelle deutsche Küche and has experience preparing roasted meats (gebratenes Fleisch) and sauces, I expected a more balanced approach, perhaps with sauce served separately or a touch of citrus to soften the bitterness. In the end, my meal consisted only of the salad and a few bites of Spätzle—not quite the warm dining experience I had hoped for. While I was offered a 50% discount on the dish, I found this “solution” unsatisfying, as dining out is not simply a transaction; it is an emotional experience. We visit restaurants not just to eat but to enjoy atmosphere, comfort, and culinary artistry. A discount cannot replace a good mood or an enjoyable dinner. Perhaps this establishment could benefit from further reflection on how to handle constructive criticism. I truly admire much of what they do, but I was hoping for a pleasant evening—not a discounted, verbrannt plate.

We spontaneously ate there with our toddler. The menu was a bit more varied. Play areas for the little ones, but unfortunately, the restroom is in the basement and there are no proper diaper changing facilities. Very friendly service and good food!

Fantastic traditional German menu! We came on a warm day so we decided to make a reservation outside. For some reason, they had our table reserved inside when we arrived, but were quick to find another table outside we could take (though most are reserved, so it's highly recommended to make a reservation here). I decided to get a Kalbschnitzel from the Pfifferling menu which came with Spätzle, Rahmsauce, and Preiselbeeren. My date got the Dreierlei from the standard menu. We shared my salad, which had a delightful dressing. But the star of the show, my Kalbschnitzel, was fantastic! Really well prepared and it paired well with the Rahmsauce. The Spätzle was also really good, but I wish it had a little more flavor. My date got Käsespätzle as a side and I thought that was a lot tastier. But everything was delicious and we cleared our plates. Sadly nothing in the dessert menu tickled our fancy, so we got the check from the attentive service and walked around the lovely neighborhood to digest.

The ambiance outside in the summer and the staff are truly top-notch. What's especially great is that I get really good vegan "home cooking" here! I always enjoy coming back.

Extremely slow service. We went there to eat with our children, and they got their food over half an hour before us. We eventually thought we'd simply been forgotten. Finally, they asked if we wanted a drink on the house, which took an incredibly long time to arrive. I'm here on vacation, but I'd still say they won't be seeing me again.

I'll give it 5 stars, but: The service was very good. The ambiance is very nice, so everything's just right. Now for the negative things, which I'm just assuming or thinking. The salad wasn't dressed properly, or rather, there were many spots without dressing. I also suspect it was a ready-made dressing. If so, it wasn't good; if not, then it wasn't my taste. The Brägele (veal) were not good, so the taste wasn't our cup of tea. The meat cake (veal) was really cold, not even lukewarm. The sauce that came with it, I think, is also a ready-made product; if not, then it wasn't our taste. Service was really very positive throughout. In summary, it wasn't our taste, but it was nicely presented and served quickly.

I celebrated my milestone birthday here with over 30 guests over the weekend. My guests and I were, and still are, thrilled! Some even went back the next day because they found the food so delicious. Big compliments to the chef, a perfectly organized party! High praise also to the very friendly and attentive service staff, and of course to the kitchen, which achieved a culinary and logistical masterpiece. I never normally write reviews, but this had to be done.

This authentic restaurant is located away from the tourist crowds. The downside is that you have to choose between the delicious dishes. It's difficult with Käsespätzle and Maultasche... When it comes to apple strudel, you have to be careful of other people eating it. Everyone was very friendly, so we'd be happy to come back...

We came across this restaurant through an online recommendation, as we were only in Freiburg for one night. The food was wonderful. The service was very attentive and even accommodated our small special requests, such as espresso instead of coffee in an iced coffee. The price was absolutely reasonable. You can sit outside under the chestnut trees, which is lovely. 👍

Although it wasn't a special request, the team took the table decorations into account for our special day. The food was all delicious and the service very friendly! We had vegetarians, meat eaters, and gluten-free eaters, and everyone found something delicious. Absolutely excellent value for money! Thank you for this lovely lunch!

Wonderful place with really good food and beer. The atmosphere is amazing there. During weekends or Feiertag there can be a lot of people so it gets a bit loud and the service can take a bit longer, but that’s expected. Lovely place👍

Omas Küche was the first restaurant I ever visited in Freiburg in 2013. The food is fantastic! A true Baden experience – in addition to the regular menu, head chef Stephan Koch also offers a seasonal menu and refreshing cocktails. The service is excellent, and the outdoor area under the chestnut trees is a favorite spot when the days get warmer. Whether for coffee and cake or a delicious meal, you can always rely on Omas Küche!

All in all, it was good. However, we waited a really long time for our food. Other guests ordered and received their food fairly quickly. It's a real shame.

It's a nice place to sit in the shade, but unfortunately, the apple pie was a bitter disappointment. It was served very cold, and the crumble topping was soggy. I know many kinds of apple pie, so I'm not sure, but something like this? I'd guess it was from the day before. Of course, that's not what I expected. Before disappointing customers, it's better to repurpose old products.

This restaurant was recommended to us. We were so overwhelmed by the overall impression. Everything just fit there. Friendly welcome even without prior notice. Very nice service and also very good food. It was an experience to be here. We can only recommend it if you are visiting Freiburg.

I'm not entirely satisfied. In retrospect, I'm annoyed that I decided to leave a tip given the outrageous beer prices so as not to look like the biggest unfriendly monster in the world - the waitress can't do anything about the prices, but there's an end to your wallet somewhere sometimes achieved. Unfortunately, the service was slow, the price/performance ratio for the food and service was just ok, emphasis was placed on quality, which is really great. Unfortunately, when it comes to drinks, I see the scope as being too much. Edit: Due to the owners' reaction, I feel compelled to give the all-clear. Fortunately, there is NO lying chancellor to be found in the restaurant. Otherwise I would of course have thanked him personally :D All joking aside, I don't quite understand the connection. But it's not that important either. In the end it's quite simple: If I like a shop and the prices are reasonable, then instead of the simple margin for a beer, I might even get you double or triple the margin. But as it is, there won't be any margin from me at all. Apparently the place is busy, popular and customers can afford the 5.90 for a bottled beer. Do I just have to accept it and go somewhere else or look into the tube...

You have a very cool concept with Sincarne Schwarzwald, but one thing really put me off when I was with you. You have a hefty price for your portions, which I personally find very small. A sauerbraten with dumplings and red cabbage for €21.99, the two slices are ok, but the side dish could be a little more. In my opinion, 2 small dumplings and a dollop of red cabbage are a bit small for this price. Then a pumpkin soup for 7.99 that is empty with 4 to 5 spoons is also a bit crazy. Your food is actually very tasty, but the price-performance ratio isn't quite right. Lg

We were there spontaneously with a large group and got a seat without waiting. Unfortunately the drinks were not brought together; Unfortunately, hot coffee cools down, which was unfortunately not very professional. We would have liked to have all toasted each other, so only 3 stars for the service. We also ordered an apple strudel for €10.50. Although the taste was quite good, possibly homemade (?), the portion was really extremely small. Apple strudel is as long as an index finger, thick as a hand and only about three fingers wide. That was a disappointment for the price, especially since it came with spray cream and not even good whipped cream. If the apple strudel is actually homemade, you could perhaps write that down, then it might be easier to understand the high price and the small quantity. Therefore only 3 stars.

In December 2024 I was a musician in grandma's kitchen and spent the whole evening in this wonderful atmosphere. We really get around a lot and I was pleasantly surprised by the absolutely fantastic service staff. Both the boss and all the employees are very friendly and incredibly on the ball. The food was great and you never had to wait long for an order. I can only recommend the restaurant, we felt very comfortable there.

Unfortunately our expectations were not met. There wasn't much going on, but we always had to wait a long time for the service person. When we wanted to order from our colleague, we were referred back to the service person responsible for our table - who of course didn't come. So we had to wait forever for drinks, main course and dessert. We had to request the invoice 3 times... Unfortunately, the taste of the food wasn't outstanding and it was way too expensive. The ice cream was forgotten at dessert We won't come anymore.

We just happened to be at Grandma's kitchen, but it was a lucky break. The menu lists the restaurant's suppliers; the ingredients are fresh and regional. And you can taste that in every ingredient, be it the green salad (with cress and buckwheat), the (homemade?) tagliatelle pasta or the freshly whipped cream for the apple strudel. Without explicitly paying attention to it, we noticed how fresh everything is. It is made without flavor enhancers etc. Additives cooked, nothing was oversalted, everything was delicious. The quality is certainly better than the competition for Baden cuisine in the old town. However, also more expensive; the apple strudel costs €10.50. The service was friendly, asked every now and then if everything was OK, overall a very cozy, relaxed atmosphere. We sat there for a long time and it was busy but we enjoyed the food and the hustle and bustle.

After a trip to Lake Titisee, we stopped by "Grandma's Kitchen" for a Baden meal by chance. Fortunately! We had a nice seat in the beer garden without a reservation. The service was quick and super friendly. The food was really really great. Especially the cheese spaetzle. Better than in Austria in the Bregenz Forest - and that has been the measure of all things for us when it comes to Käsespätzle or Kasspatzn. The meatballs are also interesting in terms of taste (as a Berliner I would describe them as meatballs). There's some special spice in there. I found it great. One star deducted because the portions are big enough but not more. And by the way: there was also a parking space in front of the door, which is not always a given in Freiburg.

We were there late afternoon on Sunday. The salad below was great, very extensive and tasty. I ordered sheep's cheese with it. It was really great with chutney on the side. Above, fried potatoes with cream cheese and salad. The cream cheese was beautifully dressed, the potatoes were not too greasy and tasty, and the side salad was clear. The service was attentive and very friendly. All in all we were very satisfied. Gladly again !

Grandma's Kitchen in Freiburg has always been a popular meeting place for lovers of traditional German home cooking. Whether hearty stews, crispy roast pork or the famous apple strudel - everyone gets their money's worth here. However, I unfortunately have to say that prices have risen extremely recently. While people used to enjoy excellent value for money, the current prices are no longer affordable for many guests. Despite the high cost, the quality of the food remains undisputed, and anyone who is prepared to dig a little deeper into their pockets will certainly not be disappointed. But one can only hope that Grandma's Kitchen will find a way to be accessible to a wider audience again without sacrificing quality.

Unfortunately, disappointing if you still know the location from before. In particular, in our opinion the price/performance ratio is not right and that is the problem. Good food, extremely lively (to put it positively) atmosphere and slow service can be forgiven if you don't leave so much money there. Then you take the evening as a visit to the local pub. Therefore unfortunately fewer stars. And we would also like to point out that there is hardly anything available for those affected by lactose intolerance.

Sitting comfortably under the trees in the Wiehreviertel, chatting with friends and enjoying classic Baden cuisine is an excellent option here! A happy place in Freiburg!

Great local restaurant rated relative to pubs and casual dining. We've been here a few times and will come again. Reliable home-style cooking with a diverse menu that includes some interesting local dishes . We both had spargel with schnitzel, which was delicious. Good quality ingredients. They offered an all you can eat BBQ that looked awesome. The outdoor seating under the old chestnut trees is lovely.

Trust me, I’ve been everywhere, and this place is something special. They’ve got this dish – goat cheese with apricot jam, arugula, walnuts, and bread. Let me tell you, it’s out of this world. The goat cheese, from a local farm called Ringlihof – it’s the best goat cheese you’ll ever taste. Tremendous flavor, so creamy, so rich. I’ve never had anything like it. This cheese is a game-changer, folks. Nobody else has anything close to this. And the apricot jam? Perfectly sweet, perfectly balanced. It’s like a symphony of flavors in your mouth. The arugula adds that perfect bite, the walnuts give it a fantastic crunch, and the bread – oh, the bread is so fresh and delicious. Omas Küche has taken these simple ingredients and created a masterpiece. It’s genius, folks, pure genius. The way these flavors come together – it’s like magic. You won’t believe how good it is until you try it. The atmosphere is cozy, the service is fantastic. They make you feel right at home. But this dish – the goat cheese from Ringlihof with apricot jam, arugula, walnuts, and bread – it’s worth the trip alone. It’s the best, the very best. So do yourself a favor, get to Omas Küche. Experience this dish. It’s going to blow your mind. Believe me, you won’t regret it. It’s tremendous, it’s amazing, it’s the best. Trust me, you’ve never had anything like it. ---
