Schlachterbörse in Hamburg

For me, one of the best restaurants in so many years. However, the decor is very dated and rustic. Not a chic, hipster spot. It's a cozy, authentic, and cozy little place with authentic, home-style cooking. Absolutely not for vegans or vegetarians, although there are two or three vegetarian dishes on the menu. It's a paradise for meat lovers. The side dishes are always fantastic, too. I could always throw myself into your spinach, it's so juicy, fluffy, and creamy. The only downside for me: it's always very loud. It's hard to have a conversation there without shouting at each other.

foods are good. staff is good. but it was very very noisy. We could barely hear each other. Yes it is an authentic place but there should be a solution for that noise :(

Small but mighty! That's probably a pretty good way to sum up the Schlachterbörse. Depending on the time of day, you'll probably need a reservation, as there aren't many tables in this cute little place. But that's certainly part of the charm. The portions you get here are anything but small! You'll definitely be filling, and the quality of the food is top-notch. The Schlachterbörse will definitely be one of my must-visit stops on future visits to Hamburg.

Much ado about nothing. This restaurant had been recommended to us several times by friends. Unfortunately, we couldn't find out why. Perhaps the chef was having a bad day. We had a 500g porterhouse steak which was ordered medium. Unfortunately, it arrived almost wilted and was very dry around the edges. We reported it and the service staff took note. We had three complaints and as compensation we were given an espresso. It was a real shame because we were looking forward to the visit and the prices for the dishes are quite high. Compared to other restaurants, the Schlachterbörse is unfortunately not recommended. But perhaps it was just a bad day.

The very expensive 600g entrecôte was tough! You couldn't even cut it, let alone chew it. When the waiter asked us whether it tasted good while clearing the table, we complained. He sent the manager, who told us something like this had never happened before and that she would take another look at the inedible meat in the kitchen. After 15 minutes, we paid the full price without the manager saying anything. Everything else tasted very good!!!

The Butcher's Exchange has existed right next to a slaughterhouse for over a hundred years. It used to be a literal trading place for this carnivorous delicacy. Over 50 years ago, it became the steak restaurant it is known for today. The delicacies from various well-fed four-legged friends are known far beyond the dike, and the establishment has made a name for itself not only among meat connoisseurs. The pictures on the walls give it away. More celebrities have passed through here than on Jeffrey Epstein's private island. Above the restroom door hangs a shrine-like collage with more pictures of Kaiser Franz Beckenbauer than he probably had at home. Alongside these, Watusi cattle horns, pig statues, and other knick-knacks adorn the traditionally wood-paneled interior. Vegans and those who want to become vegans are sure to get gasps here. Those who want to shove a decent piece of meat into their food hatch in the Hanseatic city will find their mouths watering. Countless variations of various steak preparations are on the menu here. This style of dining is naturally more expensive than the nearest Block House around the corner, but if you're craving meat, you should skip the franchise counterpart and stop by here. The price is fair for what's on offer, and the portions are anything but meager. The food here tastes not just medium-well, but very well. A strong Vino Rosso, which is also served, goes best with this dish.

I visit the butcher's market very often. It's always great.

We ate here with our project group of 15 people. The food and service were excellent. We tried the tartar appetizers first, and we can recommend everything from Wiener schnitzel to fillet steak.

Hadn't eaten meat for over a week, shared a cote de boeuf with my mate, €55 per nose. Now I'm in meat heaven!

Great old school german steak restaurant. Family run place that makes sure you leave full and happy. I've been here several times, and they never disappoint. Decent wine list, too. Tip: They seem to go one step below in the doneness level I am used to, so medium tends towards medium rare, and so on.

A very quaint and winding restaurant. More like a pub. Very sociable and cramped, but I liked it. The food was very good and to my surprise there was Stauder beer from my home country. The service was very friendly and even though we hadn't made a reservation, we still got a table. I definitely recommend making a reservation, especially on weekends!

Drained location. If you like... I don't like it. The store was very well stocked. Maybe that's why a waitress came by so rarely. The prices are steep and far too high for the ambience and service. I'm not coming back.

Out-stan-ding! To me this is the BEST place to enjoy their famous Chateaubriand and taste the best prepared meat. Highest quality food and an amazing team family-driven and a benchmark for their great atmosphere is the waiters that we know already for quite some time. We plan a layover even when we just pass Hamburch to visit Sankt Peter Ording, we stop in HH an book a table at Schlachterbörse😋 I love this place, the beautiful team running it, the food and the drinks.❤️ PS: unfortunately I cannot select a Chateaubriand here at google dishes, so I strongly recommend to give it a try and order a Chateaubriand for (minimum) two or three. It is amazing 😻 If you like Filet, you will love this.

Unfortunately it doesn't live up to its reputation, rude behavior and completely overcrowded at trade fair time, and the food and service also suffer here. For the prices listed there, there is still a lot of room for improvement. Too bad.

A very nice rustic style restaurant. First there were the tartar appetizers on brown bread. The steak my wife and I ate was super tender and cooked to perfection. There was a Chateaubriand fried medium rare. It was a little undercooked for my wife and was thrown back on the grill upon request. There were also fried potatoes and French fries. For dessert there was the creme brulee. The service was very accommodating, which rounded off the evening. It was a bit loud because the room we were sitting in was quite small but well filled. However, this didn't bother us personally. All in all a successful evening. Overall we paid a little more because it was a good piece of meat.

A very traditional restaurant with super friendly service. Good meat dishes but a bit expensive. A glass of wine costs 9 euros, although the quality doesn't justify the price. All in all, a solid performance.

If you're looking for a quiet and well-arranged restaurant with plenty of space, you've come to the wrong place. However, if you like excellent meat, delicious side dishes of the best quality and warm service in a “real” atmosphere, then the Schlachterbörse is an absolute must. You shouldn't miss the starters and desserts either. Reservation strongly recommended. Our company event here was a complete success, many thanks to Ms. Süße and her team.

My husband and I were there on January 10, 2025. A really nice restaurant with several floors, Ambiance was awesome. The food was to die for. Had steak, which was good and very tender and fried to perfection. The side dishes are also delicious. The employees and the boss were very attentive and friendly. Price/performance completely satisfied. We will definitely appear again.

Wow, I've rarely had such good steak. It's very o'clock in the slaughterhouse. Definitely reserve a table.

If you like good steak and delicious side dishes in a rustic atmosphere and a cheerful but friendly staff, you've come to the right place! The steaks have a hefty price, but are extremely tasty! Here the kitchen understands its product. The side dishes also tasted very good. The staff is resolute and very friendly. Great effort is made to accommodate all requests and to be present, which encourages a good tip. The atmosphere is very pleasant and the term “quaint” describes it perfectly! Unfortunately, the tables are far too small for the food served and, in my opinion, the very limited space in the rooms is used far too generously, making everything very cramped. It is advisable to make a reservation in advance so that you can enjoy the very good food in a pleasant environment! But remember to budget enough money for it. Thank you for the evening!

An interesting restaurant with lots of nooks and crannies. We had the cordon bleu from the daily menu and were disappointed by the quality and value for money.

We have been to the Schlachterbörse several times and we can easily recommend it. Great restaurant and great staff with great service. The food is of great quality and tastes great. Great atmosphere and individual furnishings. A must!

Best fillet steak I've ever eaten

Rustic ambience, perfectly prepared meat dishes with high-quality side dishes and everything is served in a super friendly and competent manner. We had ox chop and fillet tips stroganoff.

Quaint, old, winding and very good restaurant in Hamburg. Tables on several levels, in corners and niches. Very cozy and incredibly tasty. A must try is the homemade tartare. Unfortunately, the nice, open "old" boss is no longer with us, but his wife is still holding down the fort. A must when visiting Hamburg. Don't forget to reserve a table in advance. I have been there several times and am always impressed. Both thumbs up.

The various small dining rooms create a cozy and intimate atmosphere, and part of the restaurant even runs directly behind the counter - a truly original concept! The restaurant is a real insider tip. Excellent service. The starter carpaccio was first class. The food was once again delicious and worth every cent. The meat was rare, the way I like it. Side dishes were cooked to perfection.

You really are a guest here! With the greatest service, not fake friendliness, but honest and really good. You feel like you've been invited to a friend's house... the small fillet steak melted in your mouth, the fried potato was well seared and not too pale... there can be a dark one there, that's how I like it. We were a group of 5 and had different dishes. Everything came together and our visitor from Switzerland was also visibly thrilled! Simply great! A great evening among friends with friends.
