Wir waren drei Nächte anlässlich eines Konzertbesuchs dort. Insgesamt war es ein schöner Aufenthalt. Für die volle Punktzahl fehlte es mir bei ein-zwei Hotel-Mitarbeitern jedoch an der extra angepriesenen Herzlichkeit, die laut Motto des Hauses auch für die Gäste gelten soll, welche nicht ständig und regelmäßig im 5-Sterne-Luxus-Hotel aufhältig sind.

Der Service ist exzellent und rundum zuvorkommend, bis auf die Tatsache, dass beim Frühstück durch das Beilegen einer "Rechnung" mehr oder weniger ein Trinkgeld "gefordert" wird. Es ist doch eher unüblich, auch bei Hotels dieser Preisklasse, beim Frühstücksbuffet noch zusätzliches Trinkgeld zu geben. Z.B. im Privathotel Lindtner ist mir diese Praxis nicht aufgefallen. Das Frühstücksbuffet ist jedoch an sich gut. Die Zimmer sind in Ordnung. Sie sind nicht mehr ganz das, was man modern nennen würde, aber sie sind sauber und gemütlich, das ist die Hauptsache. ABER: Ich muss die Hellhörigkeit des Zimmers ausdrücklich kritisieren. Mir war es möglich zu hören, wenn meine Nachbarn den Fernseher laufen hatten. Ich wurde morgens (bei geschlossener Tür, selbstverständlich) allein durch das Geräusch geweckt, wenn die anderen Türen ins Schloss fallen. Und jeder Luftzug sorgte für ein lautes, rüttelndes Geräusch an der Tür. Und selbst ganz normaler, ruhig fließender Verkehr auf der anliegenden Straße ist durch geschlossene Fenster so gut zu hören, wie durch offene. Von Autoposern ganz zu schweigen. Dies ist für mich bei einem Hotel dieser Preisklasse inakzeptabel.

The hotel itself was great, but the staff was very inflexible and cold. We wanted to use the pool with my 11-year-old son, but the staff were absolutely adamant in refusing, stating that the pool was only accessible to those 12 and older – and the pool was completely empty at the time. Unfortunately, we left a small cuddly toy in the room upon departure (about the size of a tennis ball, barely 100g), and again, there was absolutely no goodwill gesture when we sent it back; we would have had to pay €10 ourselves! For accommodation costs of over €250 per night, one expects a bit more consideration and flexibility. The rigid, dogmatic attitude of the staff we experienced certainly won't make us repeat guests of this hotel.

We've just stayed here for the third time and can only offer our heartfelt thanks. The service, ambiance, and location of this hotel are simply superb. The staff is always incredibly friendly, attentive, and helpful. The only downside is the many large events the hotel hosts. These can sometimes lead to delays and confusion with orders in the restaurants and bar. But that's a minor inconvenience. They always apologized with a smile. You can't help but love the staff. Thank you so much! The rooms are very clean. Some of the furniture is showing signs of wear. The room furnishings are rather basic. There's a kettle, but no coffee cups. However, you can request them. There's also usually no coffee or capsule machine. A bit lacking for a 5-star hotel. The bathroom is very spacious, but there's no double vanity, even though there's room for one. On the plus side, we had a large shower. Enough negatives. There's a breakfast buffet, four restaurants, and a bar. Everything there is truly delicious, and the service is absolutely top-notch. The spa area is also good. Conclusion: We'd love to come back here again. Greetings to the whole team.

A short break booked through Secret Escapes from March 21st to 23rd, 2026, including breakfast, was quick and easy. We received a friendly welcome from the well-staffed reception. Our car was parked in the underground garage near the elevator beforehand, and the valet was very friendly. The standard room was excellent at 30 square meters. The quality and cleanliness were good; there was nothing to complain about. The mattresses were very comfortable, which is one of the reasons we would book here again. Dinner in the brasserie was excellent. We would give the cuisine and the quality of the food at least a "good" rating. The service also deserves a "good" rating, with attentive and friendly staff. The breakfast was comprehensive and offered a wide variety of options. We will definitely book this hotel again on our next trip to Hamburg.

We had a wonderful stay at the Grand Elysée Hamburg. The upgrade to the penthouse suite was a real highlight – simply breathtaking! The breakfast was delicious and offered a wide and varied selection – there really was something for everyone. The spa area is also well-maintained and inviting. My stay at the Grand Elysée Hamburg was a mixed bag overall. While the room was clean and the bed and pillows very comfortable, the amenities were quite minimal for a hotel of this category. For example, I missed having a kettle or a coffee maker – which I consider standard in this price range. The furniture also seemed a bit dated. The bathroom was spacious for a double room, but there was only one sink, even though there was room for two. Check-in was hectic and noisy, which led to several misunderstandings. Unfortunately, the service wasn't very attentive. I had to actively ask if someone could take my blouses and suitcase. I also immediately noticed the birdcage in the lobby. Keeping animals in captivity in a hotel seems outdated to me and should definitely be reconsidered – especially when guests are traveling with their own pets. Regarding breakfast: The quality was good, but I found the selection rather limited. Furthermore, I had to repeatedly try to get the staff's attention to order more drinks. Unfortunately, I was sometimes treated rudely and with annoyance. The atmosphere reminded me more of a large restaurant chain than an upscale hotel breakfast. Upon arrival, it was also unclear whether valet parking or car service was available or included – I would have appreciated more transparency here as well. As a "small token of appreciation," a 0.5-liter bottle of still water for two people was provided in the room. There were also two slightly bruised apples, described as "fresh fruit" – this unfortunately didn't give a particularly high-quality impression. On the positive side, the hotel's location is very central and ideal for exploring Hamburg. Overall, I had significantly higher expectations for amenities, service, and the overall atmosphere of a hotel in this category.

Upon arrival, the bellboy was very friendly and accommodating. When we were queuing at reception, two guests had cut in line. We didn't realize we had to wait at reception to be greeted. Normally, one keeps a distance from the other guests, which was the case until it was our turn or until the receptionist called us. Even the reception manager on duty left much to be desired. He didn't even see us while we were waiting and served the lovely lady who had cut in line. A very poor first impression for a 5-star hotel, and that's why we will never stay there again. We were checked in by the receptionist but weren't greeted. When the bellboy escorted us to our room, we discussed the situation with some annoyance (he had spoken up because he had also witnessed the situation and didn't think it was acceptable). Well, at least we had a witness. The room was very large, clean, and inviting. Breakfast was basic, and we didn't see any sign of the gourmet breakfast advertised on the website for Sunday. Breakfast was the same every day for the four days we were there. We travel a lot and stay in many 5-star hotels. However, having to wait in line for 20 minutes at 9:30 a.m. on a Saturday was unprecedented. When we were finally seated, the server didn't even serve us because we had an awkward table by the window. To get in, we had to walk between two tables, or even past three. It was impossible to walk between the tables without disturbing the other guests. Only after we pointed out the need for service did someone from another department come and serve us. This is another reason why we won't be returning to this hotel. The pool area was inviting, as were the bars. It was great that there were always taxis waiting in front of the hotel. The hotel is actually quite nice if the management would address these issues.

We stayed three nights in this fantastic hotel. The rooms are quiet and lovely. We slept very well in the beds, especially since it wasn't a proper double bed without two separate mattresses. The bathrooms are very good and clean, like everything else. The breakfast leaves nothing to be desired, and the service is top-notch. The spa area also impressed us with its pool, whirlpool, sauna, and relaxation area. The bar is nice, but unfortunately, it was too noisy due to other guests. This is something the hotel unfortunately has no control over. The location near Hamburg Dammtor is perfect. Everything was excellent.

This was our second and, for me, last time at the Grand Elysée. On departure, my partner checked out a little early and had forgotten something that I couldn't identify. Unfortunately, he didn't receive my message with a photo of the item in time, so I left it there, believing it belonged to the hotel. When he went to collect it later, a staff member rather rudely informed him that nothing had been found and, indeed, there was nothing there. Therefore, I called myself later and was just as rudely dismissed with the suggestion that the staff had probably thrown it away. I now have my own theory about this, as we're apparently not the first guests at this hotel whose belongings have mysteriously disappeared. Some time later, I did speak to a very friendly woman on the phone who clearly tried her best to help us, but to no avail. I don't want to stay at this hotel again, as my trust in it has been completely shattered.

Based on my experience, this hotel can be highly recommended as a conference venue. The staff was particularly impressive: friendly, attentive, and generally very helpful, not only during the event itself but also in the lead-up. Inquiries were answered promptly, arrangements were reliable, and as a result, the entire organization was smooth and efficient. The on-site service was also professional, making participants feel well looked after. The catering, however, was a mixed bag. The appetizers were delicious, fresh, and attractively presented. The main course and desserts, on the other hand, were rather average and didn't quite live up to the appetizers in terms of flavor. A truly wonderful and tastefully decorated hotel! The renovated rooms are fantastic, as is the food. One star is deducted for the spa and breakfast areas being too small. In the spa, the few loungers are always occupied, leaving you standing around awkwardly with your belongings. You should also arrive early for breakfast, otherwise you'll either have to wait in line or end up with a very inconvenient spot where a peaceful breakfast is difficult. Both of these aspects should be improved to match the hotel's overall standard. Update 2024: We stayed here with our children while traveling north. The room was perfect, and high-quality cribs were provided, along with some thoughtful little extras. At breakfast, we were given a quiet spot in a cozy alcove with space for our stroller. We will definitely be back on our next trip! Update 2025/26: Children are now only allowed in the pool at extremely inconvenient times. Apparently, children are a nuisance! So much for being child-friendly. We now have to book two rooms, even though our twins are still small and sleep in our bed anyway. Even more profit is being generated here at the expense of families. No solution could be offered to us, and as long-time regular guests with children, we now feel unwelcome! We won't be coming back for the time being! There are plenty of good hotels in Hamburg that would be happy to have our money (and we're not short of it)!

Our stay at the Grand Elysée Hamburg was simply outstanding. The hotel boasts elegant rooms, first-class comfort, and a superb location directly on the Outer Alster Lake. We were particularly impressed by the service: friendly, professional, and very attentive. My husband had forgotten his swimming trunks, and the hotel sent them to us without any hassle and with great kindness – a real highlight. The breakfast was also excellent, with a wide selection and high quality, and the spa and wellness area is perfect for relaxation. All in all, a top-class hotel that leaves nothing to be desired. We would love to return and can wholeheartedly recommend it.

The friendliness and attentiveness of the staff in all areas of the hotel deserves special mention, even at check-in, where they provided all necessary information, contrary to other reviews. This more than compensates for the hotel's considerable size and the resulting crowds in certain areas. The decor is a bit dated, but everything is very well maintained. The room size (Grand Classic Room) is good, the bathroom is excellent and appears to be newer, and the beds/mattresses are very comfortable. Unfortunately, there was no coffee maker/tea kettle in the room, hence the 4-star rating. The breakfast buffet was good. I've been to Hamburg many times over the years, but this was my first stay at the Grand Elysee (due to its convenient location within walking distance of the Inner Alster Lake and Jungfernstieg), and it certainly won't be my last.

We've been there twice this year, both times with children. Unfortunately, all children are categorized by age and treated the same, which is painfully noticeable during family time in the pool and sauna area. Ten-year-olds who behave well and simply swim laps aren't allowed outside of family time. Children/teenagers aged 12 and up who act like troublemakers are allowed in around the clock, accompanied by an adult. It's simply a real shame for such a large hotel to make such sweeping generalizations instead of differentiating between children.

Day pass sauna €50 per person. No pool or fitness area entry without a sauna day pass (or membership). Location was good, it’s in a quiet, rich part of town but still I ran into a homeless person sleeping on the street around the corner. Easy running route (Alsterrunde, 7.4km) close by. Comfortable beds, good bathroom yet no bath and no separate toilet/bathroom. I really missed a coffee machine and/or electric kettle to make tea or coffee in the room. Also the aircondition/temperature control is pretty outdated and does not specify the actual temperature (it’s just a turning knob with fan intensity buttons).

A great hotel for both families and couples. The reception and restaurant staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful time here—myself, my husband, and our children. The hotel has a swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, and fitness room, which makes our stay even more enjoyable. Everything was very clean and well-maintained. Highly recommended!

I would recommend stating on the website that external guests are not permitted at the breakfast buffet. When we called ahead, we were told the breakfast buffet was open to non-hotel guests. However, once we arrived, we were informed that it wasn't possible, and no one seemed to know for sure. This is simply poor communication and quite annoying, especially when you have plans.

The full amount has been paid, but without the original voucher, the hotel is unwilling to offer any compensation. This is highly questionable, especially considering the amount is over €400. This hotel truly deserves its stars. We recently stayed there for a company event and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is strategically located, the room was lovely, and the breakfast was outstanding. We'd like to extend a special thank you to our server, Alina (we couldn't find her full name quickly). She was incredibly attentive and friendly, and we immediately felt at ease. The gentleman who escorted us to our seats in the morning was also exceptionally kind and attentive. We unfortunately don't know his name, but we hope he'll forgive us; he was the shorter man with glasses. The ladies at reception were also very friendly and attentive. We probably would never have stayed at this hotel otherwise, but now we know that even those on a modest income, like ourselves, are warmly welcomed and should treat themselves to a stay there.

We were really looking forward to it. Our expectations were high, too. In the end, we were disappointed. We booked through Secret Escapes and probably got a room that matched their reputation. The room was generally okay. Clean. Comfortable bed. The furniture, however, is outdated compared to other hotels in the same category. The bathroom had a bathtub with an integrated shower. Unfortunately, there was no grab bar or step stool, which I find unacceptable. Shampoo, shower gel, and body lotion came in mini bottles that were thrown away once opened. Not exactly sustainable. As a guest in a 5-star hotel, I notice the little things at the end of the day, and this is where the Grand Elysee fell short. At check-in, there was no information about where or when breakfast was served. No mention of (possible) Wi-Fi. No welcome message on the TV in the room. No kettle or coffee maker. The wine glasses in the bar were of a style more suited to a small restaurant. Any good wine bar could do better. Why not have glasses with the company branding? Breakfast was also simply average. There was no discernible concept behind the buffet. Bread had to be sliced by hand, which I personally find unacceptable. You had to queue for egg dishes – it was on par with a youth hostel. There was no menu indicating what was offered for breakfast. No fresh waffles or crêpes. I was truly disappointed. As I said, in the end it's the little things that matter. But when they add up, it's simply not enough for a 5-star experience in my book. A shame. There are 4-star hotels in Hamburg that offer higher standards and a more comfortable experience.

I had a lovely stay at the Grand Elysee. All the staff were extremely kind and professional. Each person I interacted with would easily and quickly switch to English as needed. I had requested an early check-in, which was not available with how busy they were, but the front desk girl had mercy on me (I had traveled internationally and had been awake for 30+ hours...) and she made a call to the housekeepers to try to prioritize my room. It was greatly appreciated. The room was wonderful. I requested a room with a balcony overlooking the park (as was recommended in other reviews). Well worth it! It was a bit too cold to sit on the balcony, but I would leave the door open and let in the fresh air. The room was spacious and clean and a great place to work (if you're preparing to present at a conference, etc.). I stayed for several days, and it was a wonderful experience. There was a small fridge in the room with all the "bar" drinks they want you to buy, but you can move things around and make space for an item or two if you need to keep something cold (like a sandwich). The housekeeping was also fantastic. Having endured substandard housekeeping in America for the last 15+ years, this was a welcome and refreshing experience. When I put up the "do not disturb" sign in the morning, they would come back later in the day or the evening to offer to clean the room. Take Note! The rooms do NOT have coffee or hot water kettles. I read this from other reviews ahead of time and came prepared with a travel kettle with dual voltage (BalBali from Amazon) and a travel french press coffee maker, and tea. I recommend you do the same. There is no easy coffee or coffee shops available in the hotel or down the street. They do have expensive restaurants in the hotel, and those may be your only nearby option if you need your coffee. I also recommend that you purchase the hotel breakfast when you book your room. It is well worth it, in my opinion. It is a robust buffet of fruits, cheeses, breads, meats, and boiled eggs (note to my fellow Americans - no pancakes, waffles, or scrambled eggs). There is also coffee available, but it must be brought to you by the waiter, and they will expect a tip. (But it may be your best coffee option if you don't bring/make your own.) Location - Right next to the conference center, if you are there for a conference. Very close and convenient! However, you are far away from everything else. No sandwich shops, coffee shops, or grocery stores within a 20 minute walk. No pharmacies within a 10-15 minute walk (BE PREPARED if you pick up a virus from the plane - bring some emergency cold meds just in case, or you'll have a very rough time finding a pharmacy... I speak from experience here). There is a sandwich shop in the train station nearby but that may be your only option within 5 minutes. I definitely recommend this hotel if you are there for a conference. It was a very pleasant hotel experience. However, be prepared for a long (but scenic!) walk into town, and be prepared with coffee options and where you plan to eat and how much you're willing to spend on food. Bring a travel kettle if you want hot water for tea or coffee! Bring snacks. And bring cold meds and cough drops just in case, as these were hard to find when you don't speak German... few things worse than being sick somewhere where you don't speak the language :) In conclusion: I recommend this hotel, especially with good planning and preparation.

Overall, this hotel offers a very high-quality ambiance that immediately conveys a feeling of luxury. We felt comfortable as guests right away. The service staff is a particular highlight: They are always friendly and extremely courteous. However, there are a few minor drawbacks with the rooms: Wear and tear is visible in some details, such as the carpets and the key card slot. The breakfast buffet is a nice extra. However, there is one suggestion for improvement: The egg preparation station could be improved, as there are regularly long waiting times. A major plus is the wellness area, the Elyseum, where you can enjoy the sauna, pool, and whirlpool from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The free Wi-Fi, which is reliably available throughout the entire hotel, is also worth mentioning.

We had the pleasure of spending a gala evening in the ballroom of this beautiful hotel. It was absolutely magnificent and very festive. The floral arrangements were stunning, and the table settings were perfect. The hotel itself is simply gorgeous and has been renovated to the latest standards. Our room was fantastic, offering every comfort and of the highest quality. The beds were wonderfully spacious, and the bathroom was superb. The culinary offerings were outstanding – it couldn't have been better. The staff was impeccably motivated and exceptional. We have rarely experienced anything like it. I've stayed at the hotel and also met people there for coffee quite often; and I wouldn't say anything entirely negative. There are events and conferences here almost every day. As a result, there's always a kind of underlying hustle and bustle in the lobby and the café. Personally, I often find the customers and staff in hotels like this more tiring than in a youth hostel. I'm always particularly aware of that here. -> Considering the price, 3 stars.

WOW!!! We spent five days at the Grand Elysee as a family last week, and we were all thrilled! Such a lovely atmosphere throughout the hotel. Soft jazz music is always playing in the background in the breakfast rooms and hallways. All the staff are incredibly courteous and friendly. Everything is clean and inviting. This was my second stay at the beautiful Elysee Hotel. This time with my husband, who requires a wheelchair within the hotel. We were traveling with four people and had promised my husband we'd go to the bar on the roof terrace. Unfortunately, our joy was short-lived. No access for people in wheelchairs. Absolutely impossible for us in 2025. Inclusion looks different. Otherwise, we would give the hotel an unconditional 5 stars. Super friendly staff, concierge, room service, reception, bar, restaurants, etc. We'd be happy to come back, except for the roof terrace.

We stayed at this hotel as a family and booked two connecting rooms. The rooms were very spacious, each with a double bed and a free extra bed. The bathrooms were equipped with a toilet, bidet, and shower, and were impeccable in terms of cleanliness and technical facilities. The TV offered the option to log into your own Netflix, Amazon Prime, or YouTube. There were many channels, including Sky Atlantic, Sky Sport Bundesliga, and Sky Sport Top Event. The beds felt larger than a standard double bed (200x200). What wasn't ideal, however, was that they were two single beds mounted on a frame with casters, and the beds constantly moved apart. 🙈 We also didn't like the blackout curtains in the room. The Hochhaus Hotel on the other side of Dammtor has proper blackout curtains, but ours was mediocre, so everyone was awake by 6:00 a.m. :( Breakfast was great, with a very large selection and variety. The quality was everything you'd expect from a hotel of that category. You could order scrambled eggs, fried eggs, or omelets freshly cooked, and there were even waiters at your table to order coffee. We also used the pool area; there were special times when families with children were welcome. The temperature in the pool wasn't particularly hot, but it was good for swimming, and you could warm up in the whirlpool right next door. Despite the size of the hotel, the pool wasn't overcrowded. We particularly appreciated the friendliness and personal attention of all the hotel staff, something you don't find in many hotels these days.

Overall, a solid hotel. The (younger) staff, especially at reception, could benefit from some training in communication and customer service; they lack professionalism. In my opinion, the hotel reached its capacity limits at breakfast on the weekend. The prices for a hotel of this class are very high in my opinion. For example, ordering a glass of ice cubes to the room costs €8, and the refrigerator in the room was underpowered. A 500ml bottle of water costs €5—that's excessive. My cocktail was missing champagne. The gravlax could be of higher quality, and the drinks menu at breakfast (e.g., teas) isn't provided. Otherwise, we enjoyed our stay, the location, and the spa area. The rooms are a bit dated.

Love Elysee, have been here twice now. Super service, nice rooms, perfect location and fantastic Moren food. Only complaint this time was when we wanted to have a late drink at the bar at the bottom of the hotel. We felt like we were a nuisance because we didn't go to the rooftop and the bartender glared at us the (short) time we sat and tried to enjoy the drink it was a bit unpleasant. But the hotel certainly has nothing wrong with it.

Our weekend stay here at the hotel was very nice. The room was clean and bright, the bed comfortable, the service was very friendly, the breakfast buffet was extensive and of very high quality, and we also visited the brasserie in the evening and were delighted with the excellent food. The hotel's design takes you back to the 1980s, with a pleasant charm and a lot of heart and soul. The location is very beautiful, and you can take a stroll along the nearby Outer Alster Lake after dinner. The spa and pool were very clean and pleasant, and we are completely satisfied. I can't say anything about the room; all in all, it was perfect. The food was delicious, but the waitress was unbearable. The tone of voice was anything but appropriate for the location, and even if it had to be done (I don't understand why), it wasn't in front of customers. Guests were also spoken to in a very harsh tone and were sometimes chased out of the room. The service was great, the waitress was a waste!

The spa and pool fantastic. I think it’s worth it overall. Hamburger is quite a surprisingly beautiful city and this is in a lovely university area close to the museums.
