I found it online on a whim and I'm still blown away. The meat couldn't have been better, the service was amazing, and everything was absolutely perfect. Anyone looking for a good restaurant in downtown Hamburg should definitely consider this one – it's well worth it!

Okay, but expensive for what was offered. The food was tasty, but nothing special, and therefore too expensive. Drinks were pretty standard. Service was noticeably slow. Overall, okay, but not impressive.

I would like to book for December 31st, but with two small children I have to book for two or four people.

The restaurant is beautifully decorated and offers a pleasant atmosphere. The service was friendly and quick. The food was very good and commensurate with the prices, which were definitely not low.

We had a great starter, amazing main course, drinks, dessert, coffee. And ended up at around 250euros. In Norway this would have been around 400 euros for same food. Overall, we had a great time—the meat was delicious, and although we found the side dishes quite small, we were very satisfied by the end of the night. The dry-aged steak was perfectly cooked, the tartare was excellent, and we loved that there were different seasoning options to choose from. These touches really elevated the dining experience. That said, the service left a lot to be desired. I don’t think it was the staff’s fault, but rather the lack of staff: too many tables for too few waiters. After we were seated, we noticed two of the forks were dirty. It took about 15 minutes for someone to greet us and take our drink order, and they reluctantly changed all the cutlery instead of just the dirty ones. The waiter confused our order twice—first with the drinks and then with a side dish. We noticed he didn’t write anything down or repeat the order back to us. He seemed rushed, and when the food and drinks arrived, they were delivered so quickly that we didn’t have a chance to mention the mistakes. We ended up spending part of the evening making hand signals to get the waiter’s attention, which was frustrating. By the time my husband’s replacement drink arrived, I had already finished my cocktail. And the cherry on top? The bill included the incorrect drink, and they still requested a tip. No one asked if we were happy with our dinner—perhaps they already knew! We were also hoping for a small birthday gesture, like a candle, but I guess that’s not something the restaurant does. Sadly, we won’t be coming back. We even booked a nanny to make this a special night, and while the food was amazing and we had fun joking about the situation with the table next to us, the service didn’t meet expectations. We won’t risk it again.

Very, very delicious food. Wine suggestions based on the waiter's recommendation went perfectly with the food. Sweet and personal service with the same waiter from start to finish. Definitely recommended and we would like to visit again one day. We went as a couple.

Everything was great, as always. For me, it's currently the best place in Hamburg to eat a good steak. Furthermore, a big compliment to the attached, excellent cocktail bar, which offers the perfect opportunity to round off a wonderful evening.

Unfortunately, I have to deduct two stars. Twice the wrong drinks were served, and the doneness of two out of three steaks was incorrect. I found it outrageous that the incorrectly served drinks were still listed on the bill. For a restaurant in this area and price range, I expect better. On the positive side: The food was very good. The service was very friendly, and the atmosphere in the restaurant was very pleasant. Therefore, it's a real shame that the order wasn't recorded correctly.

For years, this has been one of the go-to spots in Hamburg for good food, service, and atmosphere. The service has been top-notch for years. Today, a new employee, Valentin, impressed us from the first moment to the last. So, the team and the food are first-class and can easily compete internationally! We always love coming back ❤️

the steaks were of super quality and well cooked, but the place was understaffed to that extent. We ordered a Barolo wine but got some standard wine glasses that did not do the wine justice, the exhibition shows nice glasses but the facts were rubbish! The wine bottle was not placed on the table but put on a shelf (by the correct glasses) and it so happened that one ran out of one's glass :-( when the main course was eaten we were asked for dessert which we said yes to but no one asked if we wanted dessert wine or something else to drink with, which is the same as lost profit/sales. Overall we can recommend the place for the meat but the rest was pure rubbish

If you can get along with the nouveau riche clientele from the hotel and the company is paying, it's quite alright.

Based on a recommendation, we went there for the first time today. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. We are regular patrons of similar restaurants in Hamburg (including Clouds, Mash, and Estancia, where we often eat steak), but today we both agreed (purely subjectively, of course): the food was oversalted and over-seasoned. It wasn't just the steaks, which were liberally coated with salt, making them almost inedible even after scraping it off (and we didn't even have the filet mignon in a salt crust! I wonder what that would have been like...). The salty ordeal continued with the fries, and in our opinion, the spinach and mushrooms were also heavily seasoned, regardless of the salt. The small side salad was swimming in an intense sauce. Please don't drown salad in it... Overall, it was a disappointing experience. The complimentary starter bread was quite basic, with just a pat of butter, and reminded me a bit of the sandwiches you get on an airplane (see picture in the foreground). Why no oil? Why no fresh dip? It was okay, though; the bread was delicious. The ambiance and service, however, are first-class. A truly great team and cool architecture. We pointed out the deliciousness to the waiter, who was perhaps surprised by the amount of food left on our plates, and he was incredibly friendly and even credited us for the wine, which we hadn't expected at all. We left a €15 tip for that. The staff was truly top-notch. And perhaps the salt, now in the Dubai style, is some kind of new trend, but it wasn't for us. I also ordered water twice during a meal for the first time in my life, and for the first time in many years, I didn't finish my steak. Almost all the side dishes were left uneaten. Unfortunately, we won't be back anytime soon, even though the ambiance and service are truly first-class. PS: The appetizer was delicious (a mixed beef platter) and, funnily enough, seasoned 'normally'. (We wondered what the salt shaker was for on the table. Does anyone actually add salt to their food?)

As the name suggests, the restaurant specializes in meat and cocktails, and it truly excels in these areas. The selection of signature cocktails is extensive, and the ones we had were excellent. The steaks and accompanying side dishes were also very good, but the restaurant's highlight is the selection and quality of its steak tartare. Guests can choose between salmon, tuna, and beef tartare with four different marinades, and the flavor was absolutely superb. The service was good, but could have been better for the price range; at times, it took a while for the staff to attend. The ambiance is modern, dark, but somewhat spartan, giving it a slightly hotel lobby feel.

Normally, if I don't like a restaurant, I simply don't return, because I know that a review can influence the business. This time, however, I have to share my experience. I had hoped to enjoy a wonderful evening with wine and steak, but unfortunately, I ended up disappointed. I ordered steak tartare and the restaurant's own German dry-aged rib-eye steak (medium rare). The tartare was okay, not particularly good, but acceptable. However, the real disappointment came with the "main event" of the evening—the steak: Although it was "properly cooked," it was extremely tough and tasteless. The piece consisted of about 90% very lean meat, and the remaining 10% was full of sinew. Even with lower-quality steaks, I have never eaten anything so dry and tough. After struggling through half of it, I had to leave the rest because my jaw was really hurting. 😅 Maybe it's not always like that, and I was just unlucky that day? I don't know, but oh well. The mashed potatoes were okay, but nothing special. The bread served with the appetizer was dry and hard. The staff was friendly and a bit more professional than average in Germany. Overall, the quality of the food was completely disproportionate to the price.

High expectations that were unfortunately not met at all. It took ages to get my cocktail/aperitif, both in the bar and in the restaurant. The menus also took forever to arrive. The food was okay, but not up to expectations. A real shame!

We love Meatery! I honestly can’t say how many times we’ve been here over the years – but every single time, the food has been absolutely outstanding. By now, we’ve tried almost everything on the menu, and all I can say is: the Meatery is a true culinary highlight, one of a kind. Last time we had the beef tatar Mediterranean, Burrata & Chunky Cowder as starters, followed by the beef fillet, baked in salt crust, the brisket and some sides. As deserts we had chocolate brownie with thyme icecream and the half-baked cookie (these were to fast gone to make a picture). Everything was delicious, as always. I also quickly want to mention the friendly, fast and amazing service. Every single time, they were very welcoming and attentive. If you like good food and especially if sou are a meat-lover, you better don‘t miss out on the meatery! A visit to the botanist bar afterwards has become a ritual. Also very recommended!

After a very long time, we were craving a really good steak again. We were not disappointed. Great service, excellent waiters, and all the dishes were cooked to perfection. Highly recommended if you're not looking for a run-of-the-mill steak.

Service and quality in restaurants have become difficult these days. In this respect, (m)eatery is a notable exception, aside from the name play. The bar is highly recommended for an aperitif. Modern but pleasant ambiance. Professional behind the bar and then in the glass. A quick transition to the restaurant. I almost stepped on two very fluffy dogs. Apparently, no one can afford to do without dog owners anymore, hygiene or not. The menu then has a concept that is nicely explained. Don't worry, it's ultimately all about the food. The restaurant name says it all: steak is a passion in all its forms and preparations. Even the accompanying spinach is crisp, the ingredients homemade, the products absolutely digestible. Rounded off with a block of chocolate, a delight. Perfect check-out. A return visit guaranteed.

If you're looking for not just a unique steak but also a fitting experience to go with it, this is the place for you. The various tartars are exceptionally flavorful and make a great start. The brownie with thyme ice cream rounded off a perfect evening for me. The staff is competent and very friendly. I'd go back anytime.

We had the beef tartar, the carpaccio and the porterhouse. They were fresh, well executed and tasteful. There are plenty of choices when it comes to drinks and also the wines. The personnel is helpful and well trained. A pleasant experience overall.

I'm a hotel guest, and the reservation through reception went smoothly. The manager allowed us to change tables because, firstly, the narrow table in the middle wasn't comfortable. Once during the meal, a server kicked my chair without apologizing. This should be improved and the pace should be slowed down. The salad à la niçoise and the T-bone steak were delicious; the choice of ingredients and the service (regularly pouring drinks, changing plates and dishes, etc.) were very good. I would gladly recommend this restaurant to my colleagues.

We've been regular guests at both the hotel and the restaurant for 15 years! For health reasons, I'm currently only allowed to eat until 6:00 PM, so we arrived at 5:00 PM. With the reminder that I had to eat by 6:00 PM, we ordered and received another reminder at 5:40 PM. The result was that I couldn't eat the food I ordered, but at least I had to pay for it! The bottom line is, I'm going to bed hungry tonight and will return home tomorrow with the certainty that I won't be returning to the Side Design Hotel and its Meatery restaurant. For me, the [m]eatery is clearly one of the best steakhouses in Hamburg – right after the Arizona Steakhouse in Winterhude. I honestly can't count how many times I've been here: whether for a date, a marketing dinner, a company party, or just to enjoy a really good meal – it's always a great choice. Yes, the prices are definitely on the higher end, but you get consistently good quality on your plate. The restaurant itself is rather simple and classic. The bar has a bit of a typical hotel bar feel – which is kind of logical, since the restaurant is located right in the SIDE Hotel. It's still a regular stop for me when I'm looking for really good meat.

My husband and I went for dinner to celebrate our first anniversary. We thought it must be worth spending this kind of money. Everything starting great even though prices are quite high. Dinner was ok however service could be better for the amount you are paying. Once our main course was served our waitress completely disappeared and we had to get up to serve our self’s wine as we wanted wine with our main course and not later. When we finished dinner we asked for the desserts and this is when for our surprise the answer was the kitchen is closed… really? You are paying over 100€ per person for a dinner and you just get the answer that the kitchen is closed and you can’t have dessert? This is really not professional. Leaving your customers half way done with dinner. :( If you don’t want to be disappointed with the service then don’t go to this restaurant. Sorry.. I can’t recommend.

Die Vorspeisen Variation war ein Genuss, aber das Highlight war das Filet in der Salz-Kruste, was amm Tisch tranchiert worden ist. Absolute Empfehlung für alle Fleischliebhaber!

I’ve traveled the world and experienced some of the most exclusive dining destinations across the globe. This, by far, is the best steak I have ever had. The starter tuna tartare was exceptional, and the drinks were perfectly crafted. If you find yourself in Hamburg and crave an unforgettable steak, this is the place to go, nothing else comes close.

My husband and I were there on Friday, June 6, 2025, for a special occasion. We enjoyed the food; you could choose between fish and meat, as well as order a variety of appetizers. As my husband paid and we left the restaurant, we received a notification from the credit card app that a full €100 more had been debited than the agreed amount (including tip). My husband then returned about 30 minutes after leaving the restaurant and complained. There, he encountered impatient, annoyed employees who, instead of apologizing, brazenly assumed that a €100 tip had been agreed upon. (It was spoken loudly enough that it was €195, not €295.) This incident left a bitter aftertaste after our first visit, and the (initially) very charming, German-speaking waitress was unaware of any mistake. She may have already used this "trick" on other guests. What a shame! We would have loved to come back again.

A [m]eatery birthday dinner! Fine beef cuisine with a twist. We celebrated my birthday and enjoyed the evening with sparkling‘s and high quality beef. Alternatives are also available. The Restaurant is located in the Side Hotel Hamburg.

The Meatery, along with the Botanist Bar, is part of the beautiful SIDE Design Hotel in Hamburg. I have been a guest at the Meatery many times myself – mostly when I'm staying at the SIDE Hotel anyway. First of all, I would like to highlight the restaurant's fantastic staff – always friendly, yet stylishly understated, and occasionally not at a loss for a witty remark or a little chat – simply in keeping with Hamburg etiquette, you could say. The culinary star of the Meatery is, of course, the meat. From my own experience, I can say: Once you've been to the Meatery and enjoyed the crispy grilled meat, it's hard to go back to a "regular" steakhouse. The steaks are also highly recommended as "tagliata" with a refreshing salad, and the diverse appetizers are also not to be despised. The delicious food is perfectly complemented by the wide variety of drinks, which are always brought directly to the Meatery from the Botanist Bar. Many thanks to the Meatery team for so many wonderful evenings already, and here's to many more to come!
