Fantastic “surprise” tasting menu. Amazing food. Outstanding presentation.

The food was absolutely delicious. I wish I could give them more than 5 stars. The best meal of our entire trip. Not only was the food amazing but the service was above and beyond. They were so kind in welcoming us. We look forward to eating there again :)

We had such a wonderful dining experience at Schachtner's Restaurant and wish I could give more than 5 stars. This was by far our favourite restaurant in the week stay we had in Garmisch. We received such a warm and friendly welcome from the hostess, very pretty dining room that was both modern but felt cozy and the best part the AMAZING food, beer and wine we had the pleasure to eat and drink. All the positive reviews are well deserved and we would happily come back.

Visited the former “Heiss’n Stuben” at Schachtners for the first time. It was brilliant: cozy atmosphere, the 3-course surprise menu was perfect...every course was a poem in itself...starter, intermediate course, main course - incredibly delicious. Absolute recommendation....Thank you for having the courage to open such a top shop in Grainau.

We were able to enjoy a 3-course meal with very welcoming hosts. Our individual wishes were taken into account and no wishes were left unfulfilled. Top quality and impressive craftsmanship. One of the best restaurants we have ever had the pleasure of visiting!

We had the five course surprise menu. It was fantastic. I haven't eaten so well in a long time. Every course is a work of art and a taste experience. The price of €79 is absolutely reasonable! The service is very friendly and accommodating, each course is explained in detail. We will definitely come back on our next vacation in Grainau.

Was a guest at Schachters this evening quite spontaneously and after a Google search. In addition to the cheapest beer in the area 😉, more importantly, you get probably the best food in the area. Coupled with great service and a great ambience, this is a 12 out of 10 for me in terms of price/performance. What Thomas Schachter conjures up here from regional products in sophisticated cuisine, and what his wife serves at the highest level, is more than a dream. Not to forget the excellent wine accompaniment, where it not only seems as if the Schachters personally know every winemaker of the wines served. Once again a big compliment, thank you very much and keep it up!!! I'll definitely be back 😊 P.S. No pictures at this point, because of surprise menus and stuff 😉

The food was delicious and the chef was very friendly. Unfortunately I can't say the same about the owner of the restaurant. She was rude and responded negatively to our inquiries and comments.

Schachtner's is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. Everything is just right: the cuisine is very creative, incredibly tasty, and it is cooked with regional ingredients. Special requests are no problem at all. Every course of the surprise menu is a great experience. The service is attentive, very friendly and humorous. The ambience is fantastic: outside there is a great view of the mountains, inside it is very cozy and tastefully decorated. And there is both food and high-quality drinks at a very fair price. We can only recommend to everyone who is in Grainau: go to Schachtner's!

Amazing tasting dishes with incredible flavors, texture and presentation. Anjia is so welcoming and warm she elevated the whole experience to another level. The yummiest food you will find in all of Grainau is right here! Would definitely recommend.

Exciting creations, but not too crazy. We experienced some positive surprises and learned new things during the menu. Very reasonably priced for the quality and finesse! I would be happy to come back on my next holiday, overall a very welcome change from the usual inns in the region! Really great!

I can only agree with the previous recessions. The food and service were awesome. And the whole thing is done exclusively by two people (couples). The woman, very personable and courteous, takes care of the customers. The man cooks with a lot of passion and serves the customers himself when necessary. The sustainable concept is great. Small but nice menu. Quality counts here. A reservation is recommended. We can only recommend it to everyone and wish you a lot of fun, because we definitely had that here...

This was our first visit to Schachtner's; There were 8 of us and we had the 3-course surprise menu; Since it was a birthday invitation, we were given a second starter: it was particularly successful, it was a homemade ravioli with Colatura sauce; surprising and simply good. So every course had a highlight; All of this embedded in a very personalized service, which made the gastronomic experience all the more extraordinary. The setting is very familiar and the Schachtner couple implements their concept; Absolutely recommended, the journey is definitely worth it!!

A perfect dinner. Compliments to the chef and the staff who were very attentive.

Went to the restaurant for dinner. Starter: tartare. Delicious. Main course: 2x beef fillet. My partner's fillet was tough and riddled with tendons. At a price of €39 we noticed this and got a new one. The taste here is great too. But: when we got the bill, we were told that only one main course was charged (we didn't ask for it), that no tip was wanted and that our second reservation for Sunday had been canceled - we are no longer welcome there. When I asked the waitress that we were surprised, the only comment was: it's better this way, we can't satisfy your wife. Such audacity simply leaves you at a loss for words. If you want really good food, including top service, you should avoid this restaurant. I recommend the Hotel Haus Hammersbach

Excellent restaurant with a very friendly team! UPDATE: a few months later we were there again and this time we chose the surprise menu with wine accompaniment. It was one of the best dinners we've ever had!! Fresh and regional ingredients, creatively and world-class put together. If I were from the Michelin Guide, I would give it two stars!

Everything was great. The food was great. The service is amazing and the menu anyway. We can really recommend the menu to you. Individuality with craftsmanship. Let yourself be surprised.

It was fantastic. We have been to many very good restaurants all over Germany and this was one of the best! Started with delicious home-baked potato bread and olive oil. The main course was incredible. Not only were the individual ingredients and their taste perfectly coordinated, but the consistencies also complemented each other perfectly. Simply wonderful, special German cuisine.

Wow, I didn’t expect to find such an innovative and delicious restaurant in a small town in Germany! Be sure to try their tomato salad. Of course, their surprise menu is also worth trying! All in all, great!

A fantastic restaurant. We were more than positively surprised by the delicious dishes, both a la carte and from the surprise menu. The service was good and at the end of the evening we had a very nice chat with the owner. This restaurant alone is a reason to go to Grainau again.

We wanted to enjoy a meal together (starter and main course) last night. Plus a bottle of water and a glass of wine. Our order wasn't enough for the host and he said that people were coming to eat and meant that both people should each order a main course (which unfortunately wasn't possible for us because we were already partially full). As a local couple we can only say that this is poor hospitality. and we will therefore refrain from future visits. No star

Very imaginative 4 course menu. We particularly enjoyed the sashimi and the ravioli. Overall, the sauces/flavor combinations were a bit too intense for me.

Our decision to treat ourselves to the 3- to 5-course surprise menu turned out to be sensational. Each course was a masterpiece, perfectly paired with the next, and the accompanying wines were simply outstanding. However, what made this experience truly unforgettable were the loving hosts, who are truly masters of their craft. Their passion and dedication to what they do can be felt in every bite. It's impressive to see the two of them running the restaurant on their own, which only increases our admiration and appreciation. The combination of excellent food, fine wines and warm hospitality deserves a 1000% recommendation. Price-performance? 12 out of 10 without hesitation! A big thank you for everything! The food was absolutely incredible! We were very tempted by the surprise menu, but decided to choose our own as everything sounded so good. The meat was cooked to perfection, and the flavours were superb. The owners were extremely friendly and the service was excellent. I could not recommend this place any more highly. An absolute gem!

Looked nice the minute we entered at 8:18pm on Saturday Jan 27th we were turned away. Customers laughed at us and told us good bye. There was at least 4 tables still open.

WOW, just WOW. We were there together with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law. I actually didn't want to eat a surprise menu because there are some things I don't eat, but my special requests were accommodated without any problems. I'm glad that we ultimately took the surprise menu, otherwise we would have missed out on a top-class taste experience. Truly extraordinary and something special! Great combination, very fine ingredients and the meat was a dream! Just let yourself be surprised...

Nice location in Grainau. The service was very friendly and quick. The excellent home-baked potato bread, which was served with a great seasoned olive oil, tasted excellent. The crispy burrata as a starter and the roast beef as a main course were beautifully presented but unfortunately too tasteless for us. Cashless payment is possible. There are some parking spaces in the area.

We finally managed to visit them - after the Ammerwinkl, now the Schachtners in Grainau. And: you can still do it and better than ever! The old farm and former inn have been newly renovated - old meets new and warm colors with candlelight. Absolute recommendation: the SURPRISE MENU. 5 courses. One finer, more interesting and more surprising than the other. Thomas Schachtner combines compositions for all taste buds, things that you don't get normally, in a wonderful way. The white Merlot is also a surprise, a very fine wine. But above all: hospitality, warmth, always chatting with Anja and Thomas, you feel like you're with friends. 7 out of 5 stars. Or 8.

Wir waren zum Silvesterabend zu Gast im Schachtner's Restaurant in Grainau und es war ein ganz wunderbarer Abend mit einem besonderen 7Gänge-Menü. Super nette Inhaber-Familie, die sich jederzeit um die Anliegen ihrer Gäste gekümmert haben. Besonders beachtlich: Bei all der Arbeit haben sie sich viel Zeit genommen, um sich mit den Gästen zu unterhalten und so für ein nettes Ambiente zu sorgen.

Kurz und knapp: eine richtige Restaurant-Perle. Tolles Essen, schönes Ambiente und nette Gastgeber (ein richtiges Power Paar).

Super! Die Inhaber machen hier beide ganz tolle Arbeit. Die Chefin macht den Service alleine und es fehlt nicht an Aufmerksamkeit und Herzlichkeit. Der Chef ist alleine in der Küche und zaubert dort Überraschungsmenus und à la carte gleichzeitig. Die Weine sind hervorragend und passten bei uns sehr gut zu den Schlutzkrapfen, dem Böfflamott, weiteren Köstlichkeiten und am Ende einem köstlichen Kaiserschmarrn. Den Abend wurde abgerundet mit einem längeren Plausch mit den Wirtsleuten und weiteren Gästen über Hunde 😃 Wir kommen ganz sicher wieder vorbei im nächsten Urlaub.

What an incredible evening! Anja was an exceptional host and made the evening so special. Thomas is a sensational chef. The food was the best we’ve had in Bavaria. We were treated as though we were dining in their home. Will be going back, and telling others visiting this area!

Eine exzellente Perle im beschaulichen Grainau. Üblicherweise werden in den anderen Häusern im Ort Schnitzel, Pommes, Rostbraten, Kässpatzen usw. angeboten. Nicht so bei Schachtner‘s!! Hier findet man die belle cuisine schlechthin. Vielen Dank für den tollen Abend.

I can only praise Anja and Thomas Schachtner’s place in the highest possible terms. Beautiful location with a lovely mountain view, stylish interior and, much more important, a spectacular, creative and memorable cuisine. Bœuf Lamotte was spectacular. Very good wines, excellent service, and affordable. Go there now because it’s only a matter of time before this place is Michelin star rated and prices will not be the same.

Perfekter Abschluss. Frau und Herr Schachtner haben uns einen erinnerungswürdigen letzten Abend in Grainau beschert. Wir hatten eine Ferienwohnung genau gegenüber des Restaurants, hatten es jedoch verpasst rechtzeitig einen Tisch zu reservieren. Glücklicherweise machten es die Schachtners möglich ihre überaus köstlichen Geschmacksexplosionen in Form von "Alpen-Tapas" abzuholen und "daheim" zu genießen. Bunt, sehr ansprechend angerichtet mit Liebe und einem guten Auge. Und viel Geschmack. Ich habe lange nicht so gut gegessen. Wir würden für dieses Essen wieder hierher zurückkehren. Nachdem wir die Besitzer und deren Lokal in Oberammergau kennengelernt haben, verfolgen uns die Beiden derzeit immer mal wieder aber auf eine wirklich positive Art und Weise. Wir waren heute das 3. Sehr gutes Essen mitten in Grainau. Sehr nette Inhaber, freundliche, ungezwungene Konversation mit dem Gast. Unser kleiner Hund durfte mit. Leckerer Hugo. Selbstgebackenes Brot und Öldip vorab. Alles rundum stimmig,lecker und kurze Wartezeit zwischen den Gängen. Genug Parkplätze in der Nähe.

Wir waren während unseres Urlaubs 4 mal im Schachtners und waren jedes Mal absolut begeistert. Anja und Thomas sind fantastische Gastgeber und überzeugen durch eine außergewöhnliche Küche, hervorragende Weine und ganz viel Herzlichkeit. Wer in seinem Grainau Urlaub Mal etwas anderes als das "typisch bayrische" Essen probieren möchte, ist hier bestens aufgehoben. Das Menü ist nochmal ein besonderes Erlebnis. Wir waren zu unserem Jahrestag dort und haben uns vom 4-Gang Menü überraschen lassen. Es war ein absoluter Hammer! Das Essen hat man in der Kombination wahrscheinlich noch nie probiert, aber es war alles extrem stimmig und lecker! Wir kommen gerne wieder, wenn wir in Grainau sind, da wirklich alles gestimmt hat. Danke auch nochmal für die sehr freundliche Gastfreundschaft.

Ehrlich gesagt, für mich ist es eines der besten Restaurants, in denen ich je in Deutschland war. Wir haben ein 3-Gänge-Überraschungsmenü bestellt, das uns sehr gut geschmeckt hat, eine wunderbare und angenehme gastronomische Erfahrung! Wir kommen wieder!

Wir sind im Rahmen unseres Urlaubs bei Schachtner‘s eingekehrt. Es ist ein kleines, aber wahnsinnig gemütliches Restaurant. Der Empfang ist super herzlich. Vor dem Essen wurde selbst gebackenes Brot mit einem zubereitetem Olivenöl gereicht. Das Essen selbst war wahnsinnig lecker und man schmeckt förmlich die Leidenschaft des Kochs für gutes Essen. Generell scheinen die Eigentümer für das Restaurant zu leben. Alles in Allem ein gelungener Abend. Sollten wir zukünftig noch mal in der Gegend sein, schauen wir bestimmt wieder vorbei.

Anja und Thomas haben ein süßes kleines Restaurant in mitten von Grainau. Seit drei Monaten zaubern die beiden feinste Küche & besten Service. Ich kann wirklich nicht viel sagen, außer wow. Außergewöhnlich, köstlich, noch nie so gegessen und genossen. Ein unvergesslicher Abend, mit tollen Gesprächen mit den Wirtsleuten und den Gästen. Nicht nur für Einheimische, alle waren sehr offen und interessiert. Das Essen selbst war so liebevoll zubereitet und angerichtet, kreativ ungewöhnlich kombiniert und ein unbeschreiblicher Hochgenuss. Vom selbstgebackenen Brot bis zum selbst geräucherten Lachs und dem besten Thunfischsteak, was ich je gegessen habe. Man muss es selbst probieren und wirken lassen. Ein großes Dankeschön für dieses kulinarisches Erlebnis 🥰
