Hey guys, there's a lot of light, but unfortunately, there's also a bit of a dark side that's a bit annoying. The food was really OK, the reservation worked perfectly, the prices were fair, it was busy, and the service was still excellent... everything was top-notch so far. But why on earth do you have a super modern electronic ordering system, but don't accept card payments, and unfortunately, the service is significantly downgraded? You really should change that... it's not up to date! Otherwise, we'd be happy to come back; the rösti and schnitzel were great!

Very long waiting time and only cash

Every single dish we ate was excellent. We had to wait a long time because there were too few staff on duty on a holiday, but the two of them were very friendly. (A short blonde and a short Indian man) We didn't understand the role of the other employees (tall, always with their cell phones in their pockets), and they weren't attentive.

Nice terrace at the village pump. Traditional Bavarian dishes, fresh, ample, and swiftly served. I would have rated 5 * if we had been allowed to sit inside but that seemed out of the question for reasons unknown to me.

The pork knuckle was good. The cheese spaetzle tasted reheated, but the fried onions weren't fried at all; they were much too soft and not browned at all.

The food was excellent! The knuckle of pork was tender and fell off the bone easily. The skin was very crispy! A proper knife was provided for properly cutting the rind. The dumplings were plentiful, and the beer sauce was very flavorful. The cheese and potato rosti was very tasty, albeit a bit overcooked. The salad was well dressed, but it could have used a bit more dressing. The service staff made a real effort to be friendly. You'll definitely need some patience, as there are quite a few tables to be served. We were satisfied.

Perfect location, very good atmosphere outside, the dishes we ordered were fine but it is something we will not order again as the Rosti is quite greasy and the fish is under seasoned for my taste.

Centrally located restaurant on Untergrainau's village square, with a beautiful interior and a lovely terrace. The food is served all day, which is rare, if not unique, in the area. Very friendly service.

We had the pleasure of stopping by the village fountain on May 31, 2025. It perfectly rounded off our trip. The food was exceptionally delicious, the portions very generous! We were particularly impressed by the buttery roast pork. The schnitzel and, last but not least, the heroic pork knuckle were also impressive. The beer was delicious, the clear schnapps aided digestion and lifted our spirits. We would especially like to thank the chef and owner of the village fountain! After the wonderful feast, he kindly drove us to a dance hall in Garmisch-Partenkirchen because no taxi was available. Full service, excellent guest service! We say goodbye, God bless you, and see you soon.

A very pleasant atmosphere, located right on Brunnenplatz, with parking directly across the street, benches with soft furs, parasols, beautifully decorated table settings, and super delicious, hearty, traditional food. There were three of us and we ordered schnitzel, meatballs, and meatloaf with fried potatoes, potato salad, and a side salad. The drinks were nice and cold. There was hardly any wait time despite the busy customers. Friendly service. Clean restrooms. We'd be happy to come back.

Nice restaurant where everything was right: food, decoration, staff, price. The portions are very well sized. The pickled cucumbers were very tasty, delicate dill flavor, slightly salty and crunchy. The roast pork was tender and the side dishes were super fresh and delicious! The boss is very approachable, friendly and attentive. We would come back there again and again, great restaurant!!!

I had lunch here and ordered something I'd translated from the menu. What was brought to my table surprised me, the size of the portion and how much I got for the price of a regular meal.

We ate here two days in a row because we enjoyed it so much the first time. The last time I ate such a good schnitzel was in Vienna. The other food was also very, very tasty. Portions are large. Service is also very good. The only disadvantage is that payment is only possible in cash, but EC payment was possible once. Planning to vacation in this region again this year and will definitely eat here again.

Are currently on vacation in Grainau. We ate here, my roast pork was good, but my husband's schnitzel was a ready-made schnitzel from the deep fryer (and that here in Bavaria????) and the fries were dripping with fat throughout. The interior was actually pretty Bavarian, but there was dance music playing, why????? Service was so-so and the thing is not in Bavarian hands.... As it actually should be for this region! Never again, sorry!

We had very tasty cheese spaetzle with fresh salad and juicy pork knuckle. The price was great and the service was also very good.

The food wasn't tasty and it wasn't brought to us together. So my wife and I had to eat separately. EC payment was only possible inside after repeated requests. The cat payment was officially rejected for the time being.

Unfortunately, you cannot make any special requests. So e.g. Instead of the dumplings with spaetzle or something like that. All I got was a blunt and annoyed "No". But that's the minimum for a good restaurant/restaurant. There is a card reader at the front, but I have no idea whether that works. Not according to other reviews. The cola is completely non-carbonated!!! The food is okay. The roast pork was good. Not the meatloaf. It didn't taste like anything and had egg in it. Whether they wanted to save meat or whether that was their taste, I have no idea. The red cabbage came out of the jar completely unseasoned and not even cooked through. The potato dumplings appear to be finished and completely watered down. The fried potatoes were not fried and did not taste good. The lettuce leaves are way too big. That in the picture is only half of it... Only the ambience is cozy, as it is bright and friendly, but still made of wood. Absolutely no recommendation

Good bye, In the evening we spontaneously set out to satisfy our physical hunger. However, the chef decided to make the Rösti the size of a frisbee and then drown the frisbee in oil. We thought you couldn't go wrong with the salad, but the leaves are so big that they barely fit in your mouth and the dressing was bland and tasted like water with water seasoned with water. My boyfriend enjoyed the cheese spaetzle, but has been on a strict diet for a few days now because he didn't know that a whole wheel of cheese had sneaked into the spaetzle - thank you, that didn't make him any more attractive. The next day we increased our hike from 2 hours to 4 hours. We're done with the hearty meal. Nevertheless, very nice and cozy inn, thank you for the stay on Good Friday! :) Good bye

Eine gemütliche Gaststätte mit sehr freundlichen Personal. Das Essen ist auf alle fälle zum Empfehlen, man kann sich am Abend gemütlich dort treffen. Das Lokal wurde während unseres Aufenthalts sofort zu unseren Stammlokal 😊 wir kommen wieder.

Vielen Dank für diesen schönen Abend mit echt guten Essen und super Netten Personal, wir haben jetzt auch in dieser wunderschönen Gegend ein neues Stammlokal und können es mit bestem Gewissen auch weiter empfehlen.

Really good food... unfortunately the incredibly unfriendly lady who served us really diminished the pleasure... we would also have liked to eat together and not 20 minutes apart... It doesn't say on the card or anywhere that only cash payment is possible! Too bad...

It is completely incomprehensible that it is not stated anywhere that card payments are not possible. I had to spend an extra half hour looking for an ATM, absolutely annoying and not up to date! A clear notice would have saved the whole thing

Mein Mann und ich waren dort beim Abendessen. Die Kellner waren sehr nett und das Lokal war voll. Wir hatten großen Hunger und das Essen kam zügig. Mein Mann hatte Schnitzel mit Pommes. Ein riesiges Schnitzel, allerdings aus der Fritteuse. Geschmacklich aber gut 👍🏻 ich hatte einen schweinebraten und war leider sehr enttäuscht. Im Nachgang betrachtet war es leider der schlechteste schweinebraten, den ich bisher gegessen habe. Das Fleisch war irgendein gepökeltes Fleisch, dazu eine recht dicke Fertigsauce. Schade! Ich hoffe Touristen denken nicht, dass so ein guter bayerischer Schweinebraten schmeckt. Schade war auch, dass das Essen dafür wirklich teuer war. Jedes Hauptgericht knapp 20 Euro. Auch wenn die Mitarbeiter nett waren, würden wir nicht mehr dort essen gehen. Die Krönung war dann noch, dass keine kartenzahlung akzeptiert wurde. Doppelt schade.

Good value plain Bavarian food - we had Hackbraten and Gröstl which were both tasty with ample portions. We hadn't reserved a table, so we had to sit in a relatively plain side room, which wasn't a problem but had less character. Food took a while to arrive, but something to be expected when it's freshly cooked. The final bill was very reasonable considering we had a total of five drinks. We'd certainly go back there.

Super unfreundlich, die ganze Stadt hat es anscheinend überhaupt nicht nötig freundlich zu sein. Man fühlt sich nicht willkommen, keine Kartenzahlung möglich, obwohl das Kartenlesegerät am Tresen gelegen hat und das Personal total desorientiert. Wir können leider kein einziges Restaurant in Grainau empfehlen!

You can't say anything against the food. It had been plentiful and good. The only thing you're still living behind the moon here is when it comes to pay. Unfortunately, only cash payment is possible. Apparently the restaurant doesn't yet have EC card payments. This is the future. We won't stop by here again.

A spontaneous stop for a meal at this very nice restaurant. Conveniently located near the Zugspitze. Plenty of parking directly outside the restaurant. Service was good and friendly. The food arrived relatively quickly, was freshly prepared, and very tasty. The ambiance was modern, and the dining room was lovingly decorated, creating a very cozy atmosphere. Conclusion: We'd gladly return 👍🏼

Good food, bit crowded and long wait for the food

We always come to the village fountain at least once during our winter vacation. The schnitzels are super delicious and so is the Gröstl (fried potato with bacon and fried egg). Only the operation could be a little “bolder”. Great restaurant! By the way, it doesn't bother us that you can only pay in cash. You will be informed by the waitress right at the entrance.

On a cool Oct day over 10 years ago we were driving back from Zugspitze when I pulled into this tiny town. It was myself, my 2 year old daughter and both my in laws. The restaurant was empty and the family looked like they had just sat down for their dinner. But they welcomed us in and we had one of the best meals from all our travels. My father in law has since passed but my mother in law still talks about this place when she talks about their time visiting us in Germany. We felt so welcomed even when we were intruding on their dinner. So here we are a little over 10 years later. We were going to be in the part of Germany and I had searched all over Google maps to see if I can find the place. I was unsure if this was the place but decided to check it out anyways. When we entered today, I knew it was the place. The dining table where the owners sat was still in the same spot right in front. They welcomed us in and sat us down. My daughter is now 13 but this time we were able to share this spot with my husband and youngest daughter too. Again, we had one of the best meals here at this restaurant.

Ate well after a trip to the Eibsee. Large portions. Price performance fits. Nice facility. Gladly again.

Just wanted to say that the food and Radler were absolutely delicious. Besides that, it’s a great spot to experience authentic German cuisine. The place is very inviting, with a warm and cozy interior that creates a perfect atmosphere for enjoying your meal.

Wir hatten folgendes bestellt: Schweinebraten mit Rotkohl, Wiener Schnitzel mit Pommes, Rinderkraftbrühe und einmal Gröstl. Die Supper war versalzen, der Rotkohl war ohne Geschmack und kam direkt aus dem TK ohne jegliche Gewürze. Der Schweinsbraten war keiner sondern ein normaler Braten mit einer dunklen Fertigsoße.
