Rusticana in München

Very good food, but a very small restaurant and everything very cramped.

We went there with friends and were unfortunately quite disappointed. Despite having a reservation, we didn't get our own table. The service was clearly overwhelmed and at times even unfriendly. Without asking, other guests were seated at our table, which made the situation uncomfortable. When it came time to pay, the bill was placed on the table without a word. When we asked to pay separately, we were simply told to sort it out amongst ourselves. The restaurant was very loud and crowded, creating an unpleasant atmosphere. On the positive side, the spare ribs were really delicious. Everything else was rather average – and we found the prices quite high for what we had. We probably wouldn't go back.

We were very disappointed with the service. The waiter was unfriendly from the start and even expected us to leave a tip at the end. Instead of politely asking if anything was wrong, he just made a rude comment. There was no sign of understanding or effort to improve. Clearly, good service isn't a priority here. The food was mediocre. The only thing that was really good were the BBQ ribs – but overall, it's not a restaurant we'd want to visit again.

At first, we were thrilled; we'd been planning a long-awaited evening with friends. Unfortunately, the fun didn't last. After about 15 minutes, we were asked to squeeze in because he'd pushed three strangers onto our table. We had reserved for seven, but unfortunately, two couldn't make it due to an accident. I have to say, the table wasn't particularly large. And I'm not a fan of being crammed in with strangers while eating. We told him we really didn't like it, but he said it was fine… No, it really wasn't! That was our last time there.

Overall, everything is solid, and the service is excellent. However, the prices have unfortunately increased considerably – as is the case everywhere.

For many years, we had a large table here once a year, just before Christmas. After the service and quality declined significantly, and everything became inconvenient and cramped, we moved on to the Hirschgarten....

The steak was good, the wine was good, the prices were a bit high but that's normal for Munich.

3 out of 4 probably order the spare ribs here, we ordered steaks and a few side dishes and that was a mistake. My steak medium was raw inside, the beans were cold and the bacon was indistinguishable from coal. My first attempt was to eat steaks somewhere else, but it was nothing.

I reserved a table especially for my partner's anniversary, only to be given two seats at the bar. We politely asked for alternative seating, and the answer was a "no" (the restaurant was empty), followed by a derogatory, sarcastic comment from the waiter (with the long, curly hair). Good restaurants communicate in advance when only the bar seats are available, rather than waiting until guests arrive—and thus avoid derogatory comments. It's a shame, really. I used to enjoy eating there for business, but that's no longer an option. We ended up going to a more popular restaurant that, despite the spontaneity, still had decent seating for two. :)

Not great service at all. We were a walk in big group of 7 with little kids, and they gave us a table outside littered with cigarette ash. They didn't bother arranging the table or cleaning it for us, and they didn't show up with the menus, and we waited over 10 mins. Needless to say we walked out.

Great shop, and the spare ribs were delicious. The price was also good.👍👍

Always the best spare ribs in Munich with ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐this rating was in 2020 Today, August 31, 2025...my rating ⭐⭐...I'm disappointed...from the once highly praised best spare ribs...just a sad imitation...the sauce is thin, and the once fantastic flavor is perhaps only briefly noticeable in the aftertaste...the landlady's explanation...lame...everything changes...yes, but if you charge €21.60 for a portion (which has, of course, gotten smaller), then the spare ribs should at least be excellent. For me, this will be my last time at Rusticana. It's a shame, a Munich institution that's going out of business...and the Rusticana restaurant only has itself to blame...sad...

The food is really good. We opted for a grilled platter instead of the spare ribs. Very good! The meat was cooked to perfection. Served with a delicious potato. The restaurant isn't designed for casual dining as it's very busy. However, the food makes up for the limited space. Insider tip: Goulash soup

The service and staff were very friendly, and the food was excellent. The ambiance loses one star due to the lack of air conditioning or ventilation. Especially in summer, it would be the icing on the cake. Unreservedly recommended. 👍🏼

Anyone who enjoys meat should understand my assessment of service correctly and not fall into the same trap as our group. The food is wonderful and the waiters do a good job. If they ask you out there if you want a drink, then it's not a free gift but a (fine) brandy for €7.90, whereas in our group of five four interpreted it as an invitation. I would have preferred to tip €3 more and save myself the mediocre spirit. This leaves a bitter aftertaste after what should have been a 5-star evening. I used to work in the catering industry myself and find this behavior indecent, especially when the prices are slightly higher. If you know the move, however, you get adequate value for your investment and can eat meat that tastes breathtaking.

The food was quite good, with some room for improvement (potatoes were only lukewarm, chocolate soufflé was too cold). Service was pleasant. Prices were very high.

The food, especially the currants, was fantastic, but what happened when I paid the bill was very disappointing. As happened to other customers, about 10% was added to my credit card payment without my being informed by the staff. Unfortunately, I only noticed this after I received the card notification regarding the amount. I believe this behavior is incorrect and undermines customer trust. I don't think I'll return, but if it were to happen, I'd be very careful about how much my card is charged at checkout.

Well wow. What great juicy steaks, and great/respectful service. Gets a little loud/crowded at peak hour/after work, but it’s a great vibe. And I learnt a Bavarian sentence in there :)

We have been loyal guests at this restaurant for years. However, what happened to us today leaves us deeply disappointed and concerned. The waiter simply added a 10% service charge to our bill – without prior notice and without our consent. This is completely unusual for a restaurant in Germany and legally questionable. What is particularly irritating is that we were treated as foreign guests – we seriously wonder whether tourists or non-Germans are being deliberately discriminated against and exploited here. In a country that stands for fairness and transparency, such behavior is unacceptable. We expect a public statement and clear consequences. Until then, we unfortunately cannot recommend this restaurant.

Delicious food and very friendly service! We went there for dinner and were absolutely thrilled – the spare ribs were especially outstanding: tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned! The rest of the menu also looks great. The service was very friendly, attentive, and warm – you immediately feel at home. A definite recommendation – we'll be back!

Typical restaurant for the ribs. Try also the side dishes, especially the fried mushrooms! It is suggested to make a reservation in advance, although you could find place at the bar.

The quality of the ribs and fillet tips is very good. Unfortunately, the quantity wasn't enough, and we had to reorder! The one portion of ribs in the reorder was about 1 1/2 portions of the first order. Unfortunately, we discovered that the value for money is no longer as good as it used to be. We've been there a few times and the food has always been good, but unfortunately, it's currently too expensive (for us).

I've been a loyal customer for years. Reservations are highly recommended, as I often get a craving for the exceptionally good spare ribs on the spur of the moment, so I prefer to pick them up. Calling is difficult; the place is simply buzzing during opening hours, so the easiest way is via the online form. If you order for pickup the first time it's available (5:30 p.m.), it can get pretty busy, so you'll need to allow yourself some time (I last came out at 5:50 p.m. with the inimitable ribs).

The waiters are unprofessional and unfriendly. In addition, the two people on the website went directly to the store, but there was no seat and they had to wait for two hours. The management is chaotic and I give a bad review! Friends who want to go must make a reservation directly by phone.

We wanted to enjoy the highly praised spare ribs, but what we got was a huge disappointment! The spare ribs weren't freshly prepared, they were just warmed up (and not even properly). There was practically no meat on them, and the BBQ sauce was rather mediocre. I also felt like the waiters weren't interested in serving customers. Since they knew what they were bringing to their tables, there was no need to ask how it tasted. I will definitely not recommend this restaurant.

Once again, eight of us work colleagues were there, and I'll start with the good and the surprising. The Kaiserschmarrn was truly divine; it couldn't be better. There were far too few Sperrips for eight people, and the smoked spice wasn't as noticeable as it was this time. It tasted unnatural. We weren't really full; we were very satisfied the last few times. But the quality of the Sperrips has changed. We won't be back. Sorry.

The quality of the spare ribs has declined and is too low for the price. You can get better ribs at any beer garden.

The ribs have deteriorated greatly in terms of taste and preparation. I have been a customer here for over 40 years and have recommended them very often. Unfortunately, that no longer works. Very unfortunate.

Leider waren wir sehr enttäuscht. Obwohl wir uns beklagten, fand es die Chefin nicht für nötig an unseren Tisch zu kommen. Wir kennen das Lokal seit über 30 Jahren, es war berühmt für die leckeren fleischigen Sparerips und Steaks. Leider ist nichts mehr davon übrig. Die Sparerips waren fleischlos, zum abnagen, außerdem lauwarm serviert, wohl schnell mal aufgewärmt, die Marinade eingebrannt. Wir mussten um Aufwärmen und extra Marinade bitten. Diese kam dann kalt in einem Schälchen. Sehr bedauerlich was aus diesem Lokal geworden ist ...

Unfortunately the spare ribs were only warmed up and not quite hot. But they were heated again after a complaint. Still not the real BBQ taste.

Be sure to call and reserve - you won't get a spot without a reservation if you're not there by 5 p.m.! I can absolutely recommend this restaurant - especially the spare ribs; I've never had better and I've been living in the USA for 2 years - my American colleague could only confirm this! Really super tasty and as a starter or as a side, my favorite: the goulash soup - no other side dishes are necessary! Everything is prepared/refined locally on the charcoal grill! the meat fell off the bone and melted on the palate…… 🤤

nun wir waren anlässlich eines geburtstags dort. mussten schon um 17.00 einchecken und um 19.00 dass rest. verlassen! gab keine kulanz. also solche schichtessen sind schlicht unzumutbar weil unpersönlich und ungemütlich. bis man ausgesucht und bestellt hat ist ne halbe stunde rum. bei so einem anlass! nun die steaks waren rare statt medium, spareribs waren relativ „fleischlos „. in der relation überteuert. und zum nachtisch fehlte letztlich die zeit. für ein geschäftsessen ok. darüberhinaus nicht empfehlenswert wenns gemütlich sein soll und keine massenabfertigung im schnelldurchgang!

Absolutely, first and foremost, and unreservedly positive, is the bartender!!! Unfortunately I don't know the name, Polish origin. Courteous, nice, and just right at this place! Steaks perfect as ever, but as others have already noticed, the spare ribs apparently no longer come from the large open grill, but are somehow finished cooking in the kitchen... (you always came especially because of this great grill, where you could basically watch your food being prepared?!) What a shame!!! But as I said, service at the bar was 5 stars+!!! Thank you very much for that ❣️

Wie schafft man es, dass an Spare Ribs fast kein Fleisch ist? Liefert der Metzger so oder wird es vor dem Servieren weggeschnitten? Außerdem war Alles, auch das Steak, schwarz vom Grillen. Beilagen so lala. Von der Tischvergabe für nur 1 und Dreiviertel Stunden will ich gar nicht erst anfangen. Wir wollten schon lange mal hin und sind sehr enttäuscht.

My husband and I had a very busy day visiting the great sites in Munich and surrounding areas so we were exhausted but this place had great service and food and put the nicest touch on our late night dinner. Yesterday in the restaurant you can't have ribs lukewarm. Then a table bill. We had to work out what everyone paid ourselves. We were with people who didn't even know each other before. A nogo restaurant at 5 p.m. ice cold and therefore extremely uncomfortable.

His rins are from another planet. Unbelievably. You've never eaten anything like this before. Visit it. It's worth it. Only by reservation.

After a long time, I had dinner at Rusticana with work colleagues again. The Rusticana is/was known for supposedly the best spare ribs in the city. Ordered spare ribs for 5 people with a few side dishes. The spare ribs were served on a large board and looked really great. Unfortunately we weren't entirely satisfied with the quality. Most of the spare ribs were very large and the meat was relatively hard and difficult to remove from the bone. Unfortunately, the spare ribs were only lukewarm. My colleagues, who had never been to Rusticana before and to whom I raved about how good the spare ribs tasted here, were unfortunately a bit disappointed, including me. The last time I was at Rusticana was before Corona and the spare ribs were always the highlight. Unfortunately this time they were just average, like you get in every beer garden. The schnapps (old apricot) at the end tasted even better. Overall, I was a bit disappointed because I knew the quality at Rusticana differently and the spare ribs used to taste so great. Dear Rusticana team, please deliver the quality as before. I prefer the portions to be a little smaller but still top quality.

If you love meat, this is your place. The level of culture of how they are treating the food is unbelievable. The location is perfect, the staff is absolutely kind - everything was perfect. The only downside is that they open at 5:00PM... But if you think about it, it's better if the "not being able to move" hits in the evenings.

Can't recommend the store. First the four of us eat for €150. Then we were so rudely shooed out by the bartender, even though the next reservation wasn't due for another half hour, that I almost had to eat my food again. A nice evening was almost ruined. With the self-collection trend, you can probably afford poor customer service, or at least you think so. My tip: make a snack out of it

Rusticana is a small and always busy restaurant. The spare ribs are super juicy and legendary. For us the best in the whole city! We also like to drive 30 minutes and just pick up spare ribs.

Everything is great, recommended, what I unfortunately miss is the decades-old legendary spare rips marinade and the cult Rusticana paper bib.

The food is quite good. But the service is so miserable that it's not even worth a 1ct tip.

Disaster!!!! First we were placed on a small table where hardly anyone could get through anyway. Although there was another table free in the corner, according to the reservation sign it would still be available for another hour. The spaeeribs jugs and were luke warm. After the first few bites we noticed that the meat wasn't completely fresh! Despite the sauce, this was noticeable. The assumption was true for an hour in the toilet and continued like this for hours.... The ambience is rather simple and rough But service was ok We're out of here forever - for 20 euros without a side dish you can expect something decent and, above all, fish!!!!

We spontaneously went to Rusticana for dinner on Sunday evening and got a seat without a reservation (which is otherwise rather difficult - always reserve ;-)). We've been here several times and gotten food and as always it was very good (we had spare ribs and steak). The entire service was very attentive and nice. We'll be back!

The Rusticana restaurant offers fantastic food and a cozy atmosphere, but be prepared for some serious portion sizes. The service was excellent. Definitely a place I would recommend for a satisfying meal, especially the BBQ ribs.

Couldn't make a reservation in the webpage for 3 people, stated the group was too small. Went directly to the restaurant and was not able to dine in, not even at the bar. Staff wasn't friendly at all. Ultimately, we just wanted to try the ribs...

As excellent as the food was, the service was just as bad. With a reservation for 10-11 people, it's one thing to get a place for about 8 that the extremely unfriendly service then brings the comment "This is our biggest table, so next time you might have to come to 8" For a steak that costs over €40 for 350g, not asking what degree of doneness you want and when asked to say soggy, for us medium is normal, fit the overall picture.

Had reservations for 11 people. The table was for eight. When asked, we were told that this was the largest table so next time we would only have to come with eight of us... Otherwise the service wasn't necessarily friendly.

Unfortunately, the service ruins the good food. The conditions were unfriendly and extremely unwelcoming. Unfortunately, discrepancies between the card and the invoice fit the image created by the service.

Absolutely love this place. Had an awesome meal of three different samples of steaks with a baked potato. They were generous samples, and cooked perfectly!!!! The staff was super friendly and really enjoyed the general atmosphere! My wife and I will most certainly be back!!!

Bestes. Restaurant in München, ich finde es gibt nichts schöneres und besseres hier. Wer Fleisch mag, dann hier. War mit den Kindern hier, haben diese auch sehr genossen.

The food came to the table lukewarm. What we weren't told was that we only had the table for 2 hours. The bill was brought to our table without being asked and stated that the table would be reserved for someone else in 10 minutes. An absolute NO GO jm!!! Unfortunately, spending a cozy evening with friends is not possible in this restaurant.

Get a place for two people even without a reservation. Very fast and friendly service. Very tasty and sufficient food. Always happy again.
