El Gaucho in München

Came here for some awesome steak and was met with pure disappointment. When we walked in there was no one there. No one to greet us and no one to care. We said hello a few times before anyone even bothered to show up. Waited around 3-4min before someone came to greet us and seat us. Then we decided to get one of the special big cuts. I asked for medium rare / rare as that’s my preference and was told no that this steak has to be medium / medium well. I wanted to change the cut but my friend said that’s normal in proper places so I said fine. Then was talking to my friend that it’s weird I normally prefer medium rare / rare and the waiter chimed in (without being asked just jumped into our conversation) saying if we want he can change it but it’ll be bad and has to be done medium. We said it’s fine do it. Then when the food came out we also got chimichurri and cream peppercorn sauce. Chimichurri was some chopped up vinegary pepper and definitely not chimichurri. The steak was chewy and stringy. Definitely not going back especially that we paid €80 for it. Waste of money.

Specifically tailored to the inside dinning. It appears there are more seats outside the restaurant (ideal for the daytime All in all, I definitely will recommend.

The food was average. I ordered medium, but it arrived medium rare. The service was extremely bad. Don’t come here unless you are white. They seated me at an isolated table even though the restaurant was almost empty, and every five minutes they checked on me—not to ask if the food was okay, but just to see if I had finished eating so I could leave! Horrible experience!

We had an all-around wonderful evening at this restaurant. We started with a refreshing Negroni, a cold beer, and a delicious appetizer: oven-fresh Gaucho bread with a delicate blend of spices, butter, a smoky note, and a spread – a perfect start. We also enjoyed a few select bottles of red wine, which paired perfectly with the dishes. For the main course, we had fillet steak with shrimp and creamy mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked to perfection and perfectly served – truly a delight. The ambiance is very inviting and makes you feel immediately at home. The service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive. All in all, a truly successful evening. If I'm in the area again, I'd love to come back.

Excellent Argentinean meat We went to this restaurant for our last dinner in Munich. The restaurant is just steps from the market, so it's very centrally located. The staff is very courteous and friendly, finding us a table even though the restaurant was almost full and we'd made the wrong reservation. For an entree, we had a tartare to share. It was very good, although tartare should actually be pounded with a knife, not minced. For the main course, we had a 400-gram sirloin to share. It was well cooked but not exceptionally good, as I've had better. For the side, the fennel was good, but very little in quantity.

I didn't eat anything there, but I can comment on the friendliness and the ambiance. I was treated very kindly, even though I just wanted to use the restroom. The ambiance is very pleasant. Furthermore, the staff were very friendly and accommodating. I can imagine that the service and food would be similar as a regular guest.

Very expensive, but also delicious. €2.80 each for a portion of ketchup and mayo with fries is unfortunately excessive. If the customer opts for a €25 Birger, both sauces should be included. A real shame!

We were there in the summer, and of course, you can reserve a table online. The staff is very friendly and does a great job, so you don't have to wait long to be served. You don't feel like you're in the city, and you feel at home. Highly recommended.

We reserved a table online for August 15, 2025, at 7:45 p.m. – the occasion is our wedding anniversary. The reservation is for 7:45 p.m. Is it common practice in Munich to be allowed to stay in a restaurant after the usual two-hour reservation has expired, despite a late reservation? We arrived at the restaurant on time. However, the "nice" lady at the front desk immediately said, "You are only allowed to stay for two hours – it's fine until 10:00 p.m.." By 10:00 p.m., however, the restaurant was almost empty. As a Munich resident, I was disappointed by how this restaurant treats its guests. Never again! There are more thoughtful and much better options in Munich for a pleasant evening. Therefore: Never again at El Gaucho at the Viktualienmarkt

Very tasty 300g rump steak, good starter (olives, spreads, fresh bread), delicious wine (not exactly cheap). Friendly waiter. Only the timing of the wine with the steak wasn't right.

My favorite of Munich's steak restaurants. Great service and outstanding food. I've been coming here for 10 years and always enjoy the time and the food.

We ate there at the same time last year, and it was amazing! Today we went back, and I had the exact same dish. And what can I say? The meat wasn't good. It was tough and hard. I sent back almost half of it. As compensation, I was offered an espresso or a shot. For a piece of meat that costs €51 per portion. I'm incredibly disappointed. TOO BAD...

Nine of us celebrated a birthday today in the secluded room. The atmosphere was fantastic thanks to Elias and the Indian waiter. However, I have to say that 3 euros for ketchup and mayo is not okay, even for Munich. The nice waiter Elias can't do anything about the prices and said that he can't take the ketchup off the bill. It's a shame, but we'd be happy to go back.

The steak was good. The service became significantly less friendly after we didn't order wine or appetizers. They didn't even ask if the food was okay. It's best to come here only if you have a particularly thick wallet.

Unfortunately, a very disappointing service experience I usually don’t write negative reviews, but in this case I feel compelled to share what happened. Let me start by saying that the quality of the food was excellent – well-prepared dishes with high-quality ingredients, although the prices were slightly above average. This review is not about the food, but entirely about the terrible service we received from one of the waiters. I was dining with my parents, and the evening started off well. Although there was a mistake with the order (we received two portions of meat instead of one), we didn’t complain and happily ate both. The real issue began when it was time to pay. The oldest waiter in the room, who should have been the most experienced, tried to add a tip to the bill himself, claiming that we were “obliged” to tip him, comparing the situation to the United States. After we politely but clearly refused (having already spent nearly €200 on dinner), he completely lost control: he began shouting at us in front of the entire dining room, claiming he had worked for free because of us, slamming trays and acting in an extremely unprofessional manner. This was our first time in Germany for work, and only afterwards did we learn that tipping is a common courtesy here. However, a tip should always be a voluntary gesture from the customer – not demanded with aggressive behavior. We would have gladly spoken with the owner, but the chef informed us he was not present. I sincerely hope this review serves as a wake-up call for management to better supervise their staff. An attitude like this not only ruins the dining experience but seriously damages the image of a restaurant that otherwise shows clear culinary quality.

After a few years, we returned to El Gaucho – with high expectations, as the food was really good then, as it is now. Unfortunately, the service was disappointing this time. We had ordered a bottle of red wine at the beginning, but despite repeated requests, it didn't arrive until after the main course. The fact that the main course was served even though we hadn't finished the appetizer yet unfortunately noticeably spoiled the dining experience. Conclusion: The food remains excellent, but the service clearly has room for improvement – especially in this price range, you expect more attentiveness and better timing.

In the middle of the old town of Munich is a fantastic steak restaurant, this restaurant has lots of tender steaks and good side dishes. The drinks here are good and the wine perfect, the place is new and modern, simply decorated perfectly for an Argentinian steak restaurant. The place is also very clean and tidy. The service is perfect and the staff is nice. This restaurant is called El Gaucho and a must visit if you are in Munich one evening.

Atmosphere is perfect. Garden is very fresh. Drink menu is very rich. We ate kings cut and taste was perfect. But service is very fast. They don't wait to finish your cocktails for food service. Manji is perfect guy :)

El Gaucho Munich We've been to El Gaucho in Munich several times. Once, among other things, with a group of 8 people. The reservation proved to be useful. The staff was friendly as always, and the service was also good. The food was excellent and cooked to perfection. El Gaucho is highly recommended. Ideally located in the very center of Munich, two steps away from Viktuallienmarkt, this place is for meat lovers and did not disappoint! We shared a T-Bone for 4 persons with mashed potatoes, fries and beens. The meat was delicious and paired with pepper and béarnaise sauce. Italian wine was picked from a good and wide selection of wines. Overall, this place is a bit pricey but worth trying. Service a bit long.

Don't go there! Rude waiters. We waited more than 20 minutes for the waiter. We got some tap water and when we asked to leave because no one come to take our reservation they charged us 10 Euros for the tap water!

Der Service war sehr freundlich und wir hatten einen wunderschönen Abend auf einer gemütlichen Terrasse in München. Die Einrichtung ist sehr ansprechend.

Excellent steaks! The chef cooks them just the way you like them. I'm particularly impressed by the King's Cut: buttery soft and slightly crispy on the outside, even when medium/well-done—and perfect for two people. There's also a selection of other dishes. The appetizer is very delicious—olives, salami, and dips with delicious bread. For dessert, I recommend the plum sorbet. The service is excellent 👍. The ambiance varies: the main building is elegant and stylish, while the annex exudes a quiet, private atmosphere. Both have their charm.

A spectacular place. First-class service. Malena took excellent care of us and got us a table. The entire staff was excellent! It was a very busy day, and they served us exceptionally well. Highly recommended. The meat was delicious, cooked to perfection.

The appetizers were the best. Not in pictures. La empanada, shrimp and chorizo with cheese. Were all delicious. The lamb chop was okay and the Japan ribeye could have used salt and pepper.

In the most positive sense. Everything I ordered was presented promptly and with clear instructions. The waiters zipped through the restaurant with friendly smiles. That's why I went there twice during my vacation in Munich. Whether I was served by Fabio, Elias, Serjan, or Lisa, they were all the best you could imagine in a "waiter." I would also like to mention Leo by name. He cooked my meat perfectly both evenings. Before the main course, I ordered the appetizer. A crispy, warm, sliced ​​roll with garlic cream, slightly spicy Obazda (traditional Austrian cheese), olives, and small salami sausages. My main course consisted of a first-class roast rump steak and a small mixed salad with excellent dressing. On my second visit, I ordered a fillet steak with steak fries and another small salad. Also perfect. For dessert, I chose the "white poppy seed tart." A mascarpone poppy seed cake with rhubarb sauce, lemon ice cream, currants, and mint. A dream. The second dessert was an "Eispresso." A scoop of vanilla ice cream over which an espresso was artfully poured. A truly delightful taste experience. Both times, I sat down at the small bar after dinner. Despite the many orders from the restaurant, both Spiro and Tobi always found some time for typical bar conversation. The cocktails they mixed for me were creative and delicious. They are masters of drinks from the menu. I also gave both of them the opportunity to create a drink according to my taste. Task more than perfectly accomplished. Conclusion: It's not cheap to eat here, but it's reasonably priced. An experience worth treating yourself to. A word to the chef, Lukas Grossauer. Thank you for letting me be your guest. Ein Besuch im El Gaucho lohnt sich auf jeden Fall – besonders für Fleischliebhaber, die Wert auf Qualität und Ambiente legen. Dieses Mal waren wir im Private Room im Innenhof untergebracht – eine coole und stilvolle Räumlichkeit. Leider war es an diesem Abend dort deutlich zu heiss, und die Fenster liessen sich nicht öffnen. Der Kellner tat uns so richtig leid. Das war aber auch der einzige Kritikpunkt. Der Service war sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Das Steak war sensationell – perfekt auf den Punkt gegart und von hervorragender Qualität. Die Beilagen waren in Ordnung, die Weinkarte sehr gut sortiert und passend zum Konzept des Hauses. Die Preise sind definitiv nicht günstig, aber Qualität hat eben ihren Preis. Wer eher preisbewusst unterwegs ist, ist hier möglicherweise nicht an der richtigen Adresse. Unser Fazit: Wer sich gerne mal ein wirklich gutes Stück Fleisch in besonderer Atmosphäre gönnen möchte, ist im El Gaucho genau richtig.

El Gaucho, Munich – A Truly Outstanding Experience Our visit to El Gaucho in Munich was an extremely pleasant surprise. The staff were exceptionally friendly, attentive, and highly professional, offering service that was thoughtful without ever feeling intrusive. The quality of the meat was outstanding — without a doubt among the top three steak experiences I’ve had in Munich so far. I was also very positively surprised by the pricing: given the excellent quality, the prices are fair and reasonable, especially compared to many other steakhouses in Munich that charge excessively without delivering corresponding value. The steaks were prepared exactly to the requested level of doneness — a true art that, sadly, many establishments no longer master, despite their premium pricing. In short: El Gaucho delivers on all fronts. We will definitely be returning!
