Food was disgusting, had no appetite and wasn't asked if everything was ok. Service was extremely unfriendly, never again would best give no star

Every time I go to Germany, I always find a Block House

I dined at Block House with two friends on 26th September 2024 after a day of sightseeing, expecting a pleasant experience. Unfortunately, the service was shockingly poor from the moment we walked in. The waiter merely waved us to a table without a word, setting a lacklustre tone. Our waitress appeared annoyed when she realised we spoke English, rudely snatching our menus and replacing them with English versions. She immediately pressed us for drink orders, even though we hadn’t had a chance to look at the menu, and her impatience was palpable. Things took a turn for the worse when one of my friends asked about the salad. Instead of providing a straightforward answer, the waitress dismissively told him that it was her responsibility to prepare the food, which was completely uncalled for. Despite this rude service, we decided to stay and hope for a better experience. Sadly, the food was also disappointing. My ribeye steak was served raw inside, even though I had ordered it medium rare, the marbling was scarce and the cut was full of tendons. The salad was decent, but it felt overshadowed by the unpleasantness of the service. Dessert offered a glimmer of hope with a delicious apfelstrudel, but even that was tainted. My Bailey's Irish Cream came with unwanted ice cubes, diluting the drink without my request. By this point, we just wanted to pay and leave. When the waitress asked if we wanted the bill split, her eye-rolling response to our request for separate bills only confirmed how unwelcome we felt. Overall, the service at Block House was reminiscent of Fawlty Towers. I left feeling like we were unwanted guests. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience—there are far better options in Munich.

We had extremely bad experiences in the blockhouse at the main train station. The meat smelled like our cat's bad breath. So the Blockhaus restaurant died for us. When we felt like having steak one day, I told my husband that we would give the restaurant on Leopoldstrasse a second chance. Starting with a unique service from Natajia Haimerl, the negative experiences slowly began to disappear until the main course came and the meat, when there were really no negative experiences at all. We're extremely fans of Block House again. We also have this one waitress to thank for that. Such waitresses are far too rare. If I had a restaurant, I would recruit this woman immediately. During my last visit in July I probably would have given a better rating. Today the steak had a slightly burnt taste. Decoration on the plates is overrated, but we know that from chains like this. The service was subpar. Even though the restaurant wasn't even half full at lunchtime, I had to ask for the menu twice. Likewise, it was a challenge to get the bill. Das preferred chatting with several people at the drinks buffet. Yes, such annoying guests can ruin your working day... For me: I'll definitely be in a block house again on a business trip if I don't know my way around. In cities I know, I prefer to eat higher quality food for not significantly more money.

Dear Block House team. I found the filet mignon to be average at best. BUT: A few days ago you commented positively on a review by Luis Jovanovic. I wonder what was eaten there? What do I have to order to get the same thing as in the photo posted? Looks delicious. I'm looking forward to an answer.

The Blockhouse here in downtown Munich is really fantastic! I would like to once again specifically highlight the employees who make the experience even better, super super friendly, and like the last few times, “YAN” served. It's noticeably emptier than other places and it's very clean and tidy. As always, the food was the same and the meat was simply great. We always take the tenderloin, potato gratin and coleslaw as a starter, the carpaccio and the carpaccio also has a pesto on top with fresh herbs and radishes, which really highlights the whole thing, something we hadn't had in other Blockhouses. With 2 specials 129.00 euros, what more could you want? You'll be more than full for a dessert, it wasn't enough anymore 😅 we rolled out. Absolutely recommended. There was only a children's birthday party in the steakhouse that day, it was relatively empty, maybe 10 guests and the family probably knew the manager(?). There were few guests there, but for many it was a lot of money and the guests simply felt loudly confiscated Half the shop and there was loud music for a while, we just found it a bit inappropriate compared to others who want to eat their food in peace, even if they know each other, others spend a lot of money and want to enjoy the moment in peace for themselves. We just wished we had been a little more considerate of other tables, we were just a bit unlucky but nonetheless we would continue to visit the shop.

Good location, nice outdoor area, super nice service staff, great food 👍

You wait 5 minutes in front of the door, even though there are 6 free tables outside. Under no circumstances order hamburgers or cheeseburgers. The kitchen has no idea about it. Service is slow and frustrating, drinks are often forgotten. Side dishes are too few or too expensive. Hardly any parking spaces.

Excellent for those who love quality meat

Pros: The waitress was nice even after our complaint about the food. If you only order the main courses from the steak menu, you will get very tasty meat. Negative: The side dish of potato gratin is a joke in terms of quantity. 1 1/2 tbsp for 5€ is “pretty” little. A steak with mushrooms was stringy. In one dish the spaetzle was cold, little and partly already dried out. In my opinion, the dip for the potatoes tasted purely of glutamate and was anything but a tasty fresh product, which surprises me, because salting the quark and mixing it with a few herbs doesn't take that much effort to do yourself. It's easy to prepare even in advance without having to buy it ready-made (I'm assuming that's the case, otherwise I don't understand why you only get the dip with the kilo of preservatives). And we had to wait an hour for food, but I think the staff was at full capacity, so that can happen. I've been there twice before and always thought it was really good. Unfortunately it has worn off quite a bit. Unfortunately, the ambience cannot diminish the fact that the food was not good. I would also prefer to give one star, but because of the service, who tried not to let us see the stress in the store and looked after us nicely. Gives a plus point.

Amazing steaks! It worth a visit if you are in Munich.

Been a regular customer in various cities for almost 20 years. Regular customer in Munich for 10 years. Unfortunately, the service has deteriorated significantly in the last few months. Orders are forgotten (salad was forgotten before the steak), waiters don't know who ordered what and go from table to table with the plates, chefs prefer to look at their cell phones rather than at the steak. Order steak medium and it arrives half raw. Have to have it returned to the kitchen, which I really almost never do. I also often ordered the French onion soup...significantly less onions and less cheese than in previous years. Not so tasty anymore. Unfortunately it has happened to me here several times and so I had to write a review. It also seems as if there are fewer staff and they are naturally overwhelmed and can't do anything about it. Management should rethink personnel planning here - especially on weekends! It's no longer the experience it used to be and I think it's time to look for something new.

The best steak house in Munich! Friendly people and delicious food!

The cooking points are correct, unfortunately the price-performance ratio is not quite...

A celebratory meal which was everything we could have hoped. The steaks were just perfect - fresh, juicy, beautifully cooked, and with the signature jacket potato they were delicious. The linguine dish was also excellent. The only issue we had was that it was a challenge to attract our server's attention but I believe he was being newly trained on the job. Otherwise a great experience, a wonderful meal on the terrace, on a lovely warm evening.

Nice steak restaurant. Very friendly service. Otherwise just typical Block House. You get exactly what you expect. A good steak with a good potato. There are gluten free options.

Good meat in the center of Munich

Good steaks and have been for many years.

For the steak we ordered on August 4th. The pan-fried vegetables ordered with it were not served. When I asked later, they said that there were no more vegetables and that the cook would not prepare anything. I will never enter this restaurant again!

Avoided the hamburger as suggested here and ordered the Fillet Medallions with Vegetables. The meat (2 pieces around 5-6cm x 4cm) was very juicy and cooked nicely. The gratin and vegetables were fine, but not amazing. "American dressing" is something like French dressing or like thousand island without the pickles.

The Block House was something of a revelation for me. I was there by chance, the visit was not planned. The menu appealed to me and I spontaneously decided to try the "Mr. Rumpsteak". OK, American cuisine isn't for everyone. The portions are generous, the taste is excellent for my senses, but what particularly surprised me was the feeling of satiety. It's often the case that when I eat out, I feel empty in my stomach or I'm actually really hungry. This means that the food has no real nutritional value and my body cannot utilize it. It was different here: I felt really full, full of energy, stronger and stronger than before. The side dishes were also more than satisfying not only visually but also in terms of taste. The lady who served me really made an effort. Although she had some difficulty walking, she was always smiling and friendly, as if she really enjoyed her job. She deserves the tip! The only thing that left something to be desired was the decoration and the ambience. I come from a different (food) culture, we often have music playing, things are a little more relaxed, people talk more and are louder. It was a bit "cool", but that's probably normal with a guest you don't know. Edit: Can someone explain to me why I can't choose "Mr. Rumpsteak" from the dishes I would recommend? All I see is "Mrs. Rumpsteak"

The French fries were disappointing, as they tasted more like McDonald's fries. The steak was far too hard and tough, making it difficult to enjoy. The burger was just mediocre, with nothing particularly special about it. For a meal that cost 50 euros, I expected a much higher quality. It wasn't the worst meal I've had, but it certainly didn't live up to the price. Wouldn't recommend it for the value.

Simply perfect. Location mid in Leopoldstraße with parking space just in front. Friendly service and top quality. Huge space both inside and outside with nice atmosphere.

I would have said that eating in this restaurant is a matter of taste. My rating would be 3.7/5.

Unbelievable unfriendly - asked if I can order something for take away and that I had forgotten my bike lock and therefore would like to order from outside. After a unfriendly eye roll I was left waiting 10mins until I decided to walk in and all of a sudden I was surrounded by 3 staff memeber who explained to me that they are busy but somehow all 3 had time to tell me to wait outside and that some would come in that moment - rude just unbelievably rude staff - very disappointed. There are other better Block House restaurants - go there instead… The manager who was just as rude

The restaurant manager is very welcoming and attentive, T-bone steak was great!

It takes a while for the staff to notice you, but otherwise everything was perfect. There is nothing to complain about the food, the price is justified for the food

The meat was juicy and well seasoned. The waitress was extremely friendly and helpful. The ambience was very nicely decorated. The tables were not placed so close together and I found that very comfortable. Definitely a clear recommendation.

Giovanni is a very attentive and friendly service person. The food was very good and the price was still acceptable for Leopoldstrasse! Nothing has changed with the facility for almost 15 years!

Again a great experience. Unfortunately my chicken was slightly under-cooked, but great service: Coffee/dessert on the house. Sincere and friendly as always.

Very tasty food in the usual Block House quality, friendly staff and food on the table quickly. Good portions. A must for every stay in Munich. Easily accessible by subway or a walk through the English Garden. Thanks also to Natalija for the nice service.

We were at the Blockhouse today (Saturday around 2:30 p.m.). The food was a delight! The steak was perfectly fried, the baked potato was delicious and the sour cream was a poem! The salad and garlic bread were also delicious. The waitress, Mara was her name, was very friendly and accommodating. However, what completely convinced me was the following incident: There was a misunderstanding when ordering and a different steak was brought to me without any discussion. With complete side dishes, even though I had already eaten them. Additionally, I was served a free bruschetta as an apology. I haven't received service like this anywhere in years. We will definitely come back and can highly recommend it to all customers. Thank you for this experience!

The staff was very friendly and attentive, my steak was perfectly medium! All in all a pleasant visit, unfortunately there was a horn concert on the Leopold because of the European Championships... I will gladly come again

Steak was great perfectly cooked and seasones

The fillet steak with grilled vegetables was very good. The baked potato would have needed 3 or 4 minutes more. We can't recommend the chicken at all - it's way too dry. Conclusion - better order steak in a steakhouse. The service was attentive, quick and good.

Stale fries were delivered with the sirloin steak at dinner. really pathetic. a spoonful of coleslaw which is previously mentioned on the menu as a side dish. Steak was ok If a steakhouse can't even do fried fries, then I wouldn't dare eat there again. Even at KFC they are 100 times better than the fries

One of the best steak and burger restaurants ever

Service was very poor and late. Also steaks was really dry and over cooked. I talked with waiter, he was trying to convince me that I ordered wrong meat and cooking temperature. It was bad and expensive night for me. Definitely I wouldn’t recommend to go this restaurant unless you wanna get ripped off. If you decide to go be aware from italian waiter.

I was disappointed a lot when I tried the Rumpsteak. The steak was dry and I could not eat, then I had to re-order another steak. I was shocked again when I saw that I was billed with the steak that I could not even eat. Waiters response was “you ordered wrong meat”. I would never go and advice any of my friends to go there again.

I had such a great experience at this restaurant, the food was amazing and the waitress was very friendly.

Everything was very tasteful and well-prepared. Vasiliki, who was responsible for the service was excellent and guided us through the menu and made sure we had a great dining experience! Highly professional service combined with great food!

Poor steakhouse. Unfriendly service for foreigners : the manager shifted tone when I spoke English and ask me to sit at the bar while the restaurant had plenty of seating tables).. And clearly as you can see from the picture, they don't clean very often with stained napkins on the floor... I asked for rare meat in my burger and was shocked to hear the waitress they don't do "rare" and said I had to order the expensive filet to have it cooked at my liking. Result: Meat was overcooked, no buns nor anything in the burger, just a piece of greasy bread next to a shoe sole. And I ask for fried vegetables which came sinking in cheap oil. Burger is nothing but a burger. Don't go!

Nice ambience. However, the food is a matter of taste if you don't like intense flavors, and our waitress didn't really pay attention when ordering the food several times. Drink sizes are also too small for me personally.

As for the Staeks - very good. Unfortunately, the dressing arrived at my table a long time after the salad. And in my opinion the outside tables don't quite do justice to the general price level. In addition, every now and then someone drives through the restaurant with a very loud car. I would give it a few rubber rollers....little tip.... Otherwise still TOP after all these years.

Finally tomato soup again. I Love IT!

We were there on a Wednesday evening. We had the American tenderloin (medium) for 44 euros. The steak was tasty, but I expected more for the price. The outside of the fillet was too seared for my taste. The side salad was delicious, as was the baguette. You should definitely make a reservation in advance as the restaurant was very busy even on Wednesday. The salad buffet leaves nothing to be desired in terms of selection. The service was courteous.

A solid restaurant with a nice rustic atmosphere. Very good quality meat, recommended for all steak lovers. Large selection of dishes, including lunch menus and weekly specials, are offered. Fast and friendly service. The only point of criticism is that the cheese burger unfortunately doesn't have much to do with a classic burger, this should definitely be mentioned in the menu!

Steak lovers will be happy here!! There is a relatively large menu selection, in addition to many sides and non-steak items. There is also something on the menu for vegetarian visitors. The chefs definitely know their craft! My meat was just perfect and the vegetarian dish was no less delicious. The employees were very nice and the service was correspondingly good.

We had dinner here in Munich. It's best to make a reservation, it's usually full. The meat is really delicious and so are the salad and potatoes that come with it. The employees are very helpful. We paid 80 euros for 2 people with meat + salad + 1 bottle of wine and it was really good.

Had ribeye master cut, it was delicious. Sides are included in the menu, salad baked potato and garlic bread. Wine selection needs to be improved, but overall very good price performance ratio.

Excellent meat restaurant, cozy, comfortable and excellent atmosphere. The prices are a little high for the amount of portions they serve but of excellent quality 👌 you have to pay attention to what you order so as not to leave hungry and not have to exceed your budget, I recommend it for dinners with couples or friends . I will return on another special occasion.

Everything was great. We had a nice diner experince after the Bauma fair. Waiter Philip was at our service and he was very helpful and professional.

I had a cheeseburger, which ended up being a patty topped with cheese on a toasted piece of baguette. The coleslaw indicated on the menu was just a small decoration on the edge of the plate. The fries were ok but not exceptional. The portion overall wasn't particularly large. We all agreed that the price-performance ratio was not right.

The normal burger is a patty on bread WITHOUT anything, sauce or anything like that, so stay away, it has nothing to do with a burger.

Nice ambience in American style, great service but compromises when it comes to food. Unfortunately, the "American Tenderloin" was not as tender as you would expect from a fillet steak and was sometimes rubbery. But the service was first class and very attentive, which is why it gets 4 stars instead of 3.

Dry aged steaks are truly amazing. My suggestion is to order a nice wheat beer with the steak.

A good beef restaurant to go to with friend or family, American style. It was a rainy day so we sat at the first floor. Food and service was fast&good, but waiter was really pushing for a tip at checkout. Felt bit uncomfortable.
