Not recommended – bad experience Unfortunately, our visit to this Indian restaurant was a disappointment. At first it was incredibly cold in the restaurant, which made the stay extremely uncomfortable. The food took forever and the portions were small. The taste was acceptable, but the presentation left a lot to be desired - the food just didn't look appetizing. Overall, the atmosphere was so unpleasant that we just wanted to leave quickly. The language barriers were also problematic - there was hardly any German spoken, which should be a given in a restaurant in Germany. Not everyone speaks English and communication was difficult. Unfortunately the worst Indian food I've ever had. I definitely won't be coming back.

Portion was too small for the price and the plates and table were dirty and they probably need an exterminator. Service was nice

The toilets were very authentically Indian, so I wouldn't recommend using them here, the restaurant was in a similar condition, loveless decoration and very dirty tablecloths, the floor was also sticky and the room wasn't heated, we had to eat with jackets on. The food was ok but it took almost 40 minutes from the order to the table (for a starter), the price wasn't justified either.

Indian food but very expensive for a small quantity. There is also a lack of quality, a lot of things are not freshly prepared and, outrageously, you can hear the microwave noises all the way to the farthest corner. Good reviews are probably bought, because nothing that was here is special in any way. Just meh. eh eh

DANGER ! This is the worst Indian in Hamburg. The restaurant is beyond DIRTY. And the food was NOT particularly good: the "Mixed Vegetables" were imperial vegetables from the freezer and the rice was lukewarm and not remotely tasty as you would normally expect from Indian food. And the Indian tea is a disaster; indefinable and no idea what it was. It's unclear to me where the good recessions come from, probably bought.

Had a great experience… Their Chicken tikka and Paneer tikka are must try!! Don’t forget to have a lassi!

Perfect Punjabi food, must visit place in Hamburg

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. The owner lied about the payment machine being broken and demanded cash instead, asking us to go back to our hotel to get it! After wasting our time and causing unnecessary hassle, they finally admitted the payment machine was working and accepted card payment. The restaurant was completely empty, yet no staff was available to assist us. We had to walk up to the reception just to request additional dishes—absolutely unacceptable for any restaurant. Avoid this place at all costs. Dishonest staff and horrible service ruined what could have been a nice meal. Save yourself the trouble and dine elsewhere!

Never again! Worst restaurant experience ever Our visit to the Royal Punjab restaurant was an absolute disaster. As soon as we entered the restaurant we felt uncomfortable: the atmosphere was neither inviting nor clean. The table was sticky, the floor dirty, and even the menu was greasy and unpleasant to touch. We ordered main courses and even they were a complete disappointment. The food obviously came from the microwave, was completely over salted and tasted terrible. To make matters worse, we also found a piece of aluminum foil in the food - it was just disgusting and unacceptable! The Aperol Spritz was also a failure: undrinkable and not at all what it should be. The service was subpar. The waitress hardly spoke any German and seemed unprofessional and uninterested. This further added to the bad experience. An Indian prayer was playing in the background the whole time, which didn't fit the atmosphere at all and was just distracting. There were a total of two tables occupied - us and another table - which added to the already uncomfortable atmosphere in the restaurant. Conclusion: Dirty, overpriced, unfriendly, and then aluminum foil in the food! That was our first and definitely last visit. Absolutely not recommended!

Could be a much better restaurant with little improvements. The curry had few pieces of meat and the rice bowl fits really small portion of rice. One of the curry was just floating on oil. The ambience is dead with only staffs talking loud in background.

This place has a mouse problem. Not a good experience. We googled best Indian restaurants in Hamburg - this one came up immediately, and was right around the corner from where we were staying. In light of our experience, I'm surprised it has such a high rating. To be clear, I cannot comment on the food as I did not stay there long enough to taste it. I can only comment on the ambience (which was non-existent), the staff (who were completely unbothered by our complaint), and the mouse (which was the final nail in the proverbial coffin). It was rather shabby looking from the outside but I was willing to overlook this, initially. Upon entering, the interior décor was no better. Worse still, the place was completely empty and deathly silent. No music, no ambience of any kind. We actually thought it might be closed. Eventually, a staff-member came out from the back. He appeared to be there alone and was dressed in a tracksuit. Again, not problematic in and of itself but not setting a great tone either. The staff member was nice enough but very quiet. Though never rude, customer service is likely not the job for him. I myself work in customer service and have high expectations of other people in that role. I believe you need to be bubbly, friendly, and attentive if you are going to be placed in front of house. The staff member we dealt with was none of these things, unfortunately. While we perused the menu, another family arrived and were seated near us. The waiter took our order and returned to the kitchen. We had not yet received drinks and cutlery when a mouse appeared from beneath the radiator beside our table. This was the final straw for us. We immediately began gathering our things and one of our party went to inform the staff member that we would be cancelling our order. The other table also noticed the mouse at this point and began to gather their things too. The staff member seemed surprised that we wanted to cancel our order over this and suggested that we move to a different table away from the mouse. There was no apology and no real recognition of the problem either. Ultimately, he did not seem particularly bothered either way and simply shrugged when we said that moving to another table was not at all an adequate solution. Save yourself the hassle - there are other, much better Indian restaurants in Hamburg.

Just left the restaurant because we saw a mouse. I had read the good reviews and was very disappointed. Very poor atmosphere in the restaurant, no music and no other person in the restaurant! Service was not good. We entered the restaurant and we didnt even know if it was still open as no one greeted us until we went fully down the back of the restaurant. Cutlery wasn't the cleanest. We had food ordered when we spotted a mouse across from our table. My group and the only other table that came in after us, left immediately. The staff member didn't seem overly concerned by this and offered to move us to a different table. Would not be going back and would not recommend.

We wanted to have lunch here. The restaurant had opened a few minutes earlier and we were the first guests. The toilets were unhygienic and smelly, the tablecloths were stained and the cutlery was dirty and licked. We left straight away without eating here.

Food was ok, but the atmosphere was rather dirty. The service doesn't speak German and you can only pay in cash without a receipt

The food was average, the place is badly maintained, the service is okay. Went there after seeing the Google reviews but a great disappointment 😞 . I won't recommend!

The place was run down, no atmostsphere, felt awkward and dirty. We sat down, ordered naan and left without ordering more food. The naan was dry and clearly not fresh. I honestly think many 5 star reviews are fake because this place was awful!

We just had a Lunch with them. Taste was poor. Everything was uncooked specially chicken tikka masala. Salad was rotten/not fresh. Moreover, the hygienic level was extremely poor. Everything wasuch expensive with zero taste. Please dont waste your money.

This was really not a nice place. The food was ok but not at all as good as it can be in Indian restaurants. But the place itself was awfull. Things could improve with very simple tricks. Clean tablecloths, clean floors, light in the bathroom, toilet paper in the baatroom, soap in the bath-room etc etc. The atmosphere was realy poor. I was released when leaving. Som weird things when paying with credit card. They claimed the machine was not working as it ran out of paper. A friend was about to get new paper. I could wait 10-15 minutes. When I said (correctly) that I do not have cash (I never carry cash) suddenly the had a full box of new paper rolls for the credit card machine....

I was there for lunch. Outside the board said 7.50 euros. I had ordered a chai without sugar, naan and palak breadcrumbs. The chai was sweet and I didn't want it. I didn't want a new one either. The food was okay if you didn't hear the microwave. Now to the restaurant. The entrance with a red carpet, totally dirty. Glue the tables. The card was really sticky and fell apart. I wonder why I didn't run away straight away. Well, the service is nice but they don't speak a word of German. Then came the bill. The food was charged at the regular price even though I ordered lunch from the outdoor advertisement. The chai was charged even though I gave it back. Then they tried to tell me that the offering outside is only half portions. Which wasn't written anywhere. I refused and just paid the offer. I can definitely not recommend this restaurant.

Ants were running past the TV, the tables weren't tidy even though there wasn't much going on. Half of the starters were forgotten and served after the main course. The food was okay, but really nothing more. I've had much better Indian food. It's a shame, I was so looking forward to it.

I entered the restaurant attracted by the good reviews, but I didn't know what to expect. There's a video on YouTube all the time at 180p with an Indian "singing" the whole time. Hygiene Technically, I would give the restaurant a poor rating. Tablecloths need to be cleaned and the salt shakers are dirty. The food is ok, but you could have cooked it yourself much better. You have to know.

This restaurant was by far the worst I have ever visited. Apparently hygiene is not known there, everything seemed totally dirty, the menus were falling apart and sticky. The drinks arrived very late after ordering and the food, which was unfortunately inedible, took what felt like an eternity to arrive. In the lower area to the toilets, there is a dirty mess in the middle of the hallway. The only good thing was our drinks. However, over 80 euros is too expensive for that... for 3 people.

Pathetic experience .. we went to this place thinking we will get some good indian food but had the worst experience ever .. we order coconut lassi and fish biryani .. The lassi was just yogurt lots of water and some shredded coconut mixed no taste at all completely watery ..the fish biryani was even worst. There were thorns in the fish. .fish was stale and rice was burnt ..quantity was also very less.. will highly recommend not to go to this place ..only one person was there to take order and he was also completely lost. .

We were very disappointed after seeing the positive reviews. The ambient was dirty and carpet is old like 20 years and the restaurant was also dirty. How the restaurant could be so dirty after getting these positive reviews. I think that boy was working alone we saw him serving maybe dish washing and also cooking. And the price is also too much expensive. it would be better to enjoy pasta in Italian restaurant at the same prices that I pay for chicken curry.

We tried the Paneer Bhurji, Veg Biryani and Egg-Fried rice - they were very good, but the best dish was the dessert - Pista Kulfi icecream is a must try! The service was also commendable.

What a dismal experience we had at this restaurant. The service was appalling, the food was diabolical & the ambience was non existent. We knew we were in trouble when we ordered a bottle of white wine & were given a bowl of ice…the wine had not been refrigerated & the waiter, who was completely clueless, went to leave it on our table without opening it, it had a cork. So I don’t know how he expected us to serve ourselves, maybe take it out with our teeth? It went downhill from there! We ordered our food & waited, and waited, an hour after ordering, my husband had to go & see where our food was. Out came the most insipid, uninspiring food we’ve ever tried at an Indian restaurant. The dishes were luke warm & the meat fairly dry & flavourless; our bread didn’t arrive so we had to ask where it was, the mineral water we asked for didn’t arrive & we ordered a bottle of Chianti only to get a bottle of Merlot…at this stage we had given up! The icing on the cake was the cockroach climbing the wall & the ridiculous cost of 94 euros. Do not go there! If I could give it negative stars I would! 2 Aussies abroad.

Ordered a veggie meal, got something with chicken. The butter chicken was very mediocre. Servant on the phone during our entire meal, uncomfortable atmosphere.

Food was actually OK, but very small portions. The cleanliness is a disaster! The highlight was after dinner when a mouse ran out of the kitchen. But the waitress wasn't interested when we told her. In the aquarium above, the water was so cloudy that you could hardly see the fish in it. Wouldn't go there again.

All the food was so salty it was uneatable. First time this has happened to me with indian food and I lived three years in India. Service was wortless as well, noone asked why I didnt finish the food, instead they were doing private phonecalls most of the time.

Unfortunately we fell for the good reviews. We should have read the many 1 star reviews beforehand. Unfortunately our visit to this Indian restaurant was disappointing. The portions were very small and didn't taste good. The homemade lemonade was particularly annoying, it was warm and apparently made with sugar and salt, this should have been noted on the menu. You really couldn't drink it, not even when you were very thirsty. When we complained, we were told that we still had to pay for it. In addition, the restaurant was relatively dirty and had a somewhat unpleasant smell. Overall, a disappointing experience that we cannot recommend. Really the worst Indian we have ever been to.

No recommendation. We fell for the dubious reviews here. It started with a call for a reservation for 6 people. The staff on the phone doesn't speak German, only English. On site, the restaurant is empty. Atmosphere uncomfortable, unkempt. A table for 6 was not ready. Instead, when we were there, a 4-seater table with 2 extra chairs was made into a 6-seater table. Instead of putting in a table for two, we had to sit squashed at the table for four. The service only speaks English. There was only 1 map in German. The staff (?) have small children running around and bothering you. This didn't happen once, but multiple times. Preparation time was okay. The taste of the food was edible, but not really tasty. Afterwards we had to get up and take care of the bill, although one would think that if the restaurant was empty, table service wouldn't be a problem. The process took some time. That was an experience in itself. I wouldn't have thought it possible that there were shops like this in the middle of the city center.
