We spontaneously decided to eat there and it was delicious. It's a bit hidden, located up a flight of stairs; the restaurant is quite small but authentic. The service was very friendly, card payments weren't accepted, but a bank transfer (PayPal) was.

We spontaneously decided to go there just before closing time. The incredibly friendly team cooked something for us, preparing fresh papadums and roti. The table service was very pleasant, attentive, and humorous, even at that late hour. It's a simple Indian restaurant with excellent value for money. We thought it was delicious!

Food was okay, but portions were very small considering the high price. We ordered Royal Punjab Chicken and Lamb Curry — both came with minimal rice and little curry. The entire time there was a constant hammering noise from the kitchen. An underage child was working as a waiter, and after I pointed it out, a waiter was suddenly replaced. Later, an older drunk man walked into the staff area. Overall a terrible experience that cost €60. A lady also asked us to ‘leave a positive review.’ No card paying options. Never again.

Food was decent enough. But too expensive for a place like that/ ambiance. And the portion size was too small for the price as well which made me very disappointed. What I was shocked about , is teenagers (minors) were taking our orders as the waiters which I think is illegal. Not to mention the constant screaming and drilling at the walls.

The samosas were still frozen on the middle. They were also the most greasy samosas I’ve ever had. The edges were over cooked and inedible. The service was very slow. My husband and I both ordered the Tandoori chicken. The pieces on the edges were cold. Not frozen, but not even warm. The pieces in the middle were warm. Nothing was hot. The chicken was tasty, but not as enjoyable being tepid. My daughter ordered the Malai Kafta. It was good, hot, and she enjoyed it. They keep the front door open at all times. We were freezing inside the restaurant. The waiter was nice but we had to wait so long for everything. The children inside were very loud. I do not recommend coming here. I would not return. There are so many Indian places to eat in the area. Also, they only accept cash.

Absolutely outrageous! The paneer cheese in the curry was cut into very thin slices, and the portion size is absolutely ridiculous! I don't need to go to Indian food for that; you can get it as a ready meal at any Asian store around the corner... We find it completely incomprehensible why so many people are reporting positively about the restaurant. It was also uninviting inside; everything seemed pretty dirty... Thank you and never again!!!

Very, very Gutenberg food in Indian Punjabi food and good workers. The daal makhni and chicken tikka masala were delicious, with chili naan and mango lassi, very Gutenberg flavor. Highly recommended.

We ordered paneer tikka masala, the taste was good but there were only 4 pieces of paneer in it and that was just paneer called B slice. The rice tasted stale. The most dangerous thing was that when the naan was kept on the table, a big cockroach came out of the basket. Sir, you should really pay attention to hygiene, your replies are very rude, I have read the comments. I am also a chef but I have never experienced such bad food. I know you do not care, then also pay some attention to hygiene. By the way, let me tell others that here only one person handles everything, maybe, both food and service take some time.

Restaurent from hell. I have not seen so many things going wrong in one visit. Order was delayed, too salty and spicy. Service was pathetic. Card machine was not working and they didn’t mention it is cash only.

The food was very disappointing, and the service was worse — the staff neglected customers completely. I had to wait 45 minutes for my order, only to be told later that they couldn’t serve the ban breads because they had no wheat. On top of that, they don’t accept cards, which feels shady in this day and age. Would not recommend.

I only ordered an appetizer. At first, they wouldn't even give me a full portion, claiming the menu was wrong. After asking again, I finally received the appetizer, but it was completely oily, mushy, tasteless, and inedible. I had to throw it away. Very disappointing.

I am writing to express my strong dissatisfaction with my meal at your restaurant. I ordered the Shahi Paneer and found the quality to be very poor. The flavor was unpleasant and the serving size was exceptionally small. Additionally, when I placed my order, I requested naan and stated that I did not need rice. The bill I received still included a charge for the rice. I was also taken aback by the impolite behavior of the staff member who processed my payment.

We went to a restaurant to eat. After finishing the meal, the staff told us they only accept cash and do not take cards. We did not have any cash with us. They forced us to withdraw cash, but we didn’t even have a physical card with us. Normally we use apple pay ..Because of that, we had to make an online international banking transaction with extra charges.so i suggest to all never go this place. Be safe from fraud and scamer .

I had a very bad experience at that restaurant. The naan was burnt, . But the main problem started after we finished eating — they forced us to go to the ATM to pay the bill. I was really shocked to see such rude and unprofessional behavior from owners of the royal indian restaurant ( she is asking for only cash because of she dont want to pay taxes for the government,

I had a wonderful experience at this Indian restaurant! The food was full of authentic, traditional flavors that reminded me of true Indian home cooking. Extremely Disappointing and Unpleasant Experience I visited Royal Punjab with my wife to celebrate my birthday, hoping for a pleasant evening. Unfortunately, the experience was awful from start to finish. Food is tasteless The cola was served from an already opened bottle, completely flat and tasteless. When an employee called the owner to address the issue, the owner shouted at the staff and then approached me directly. His manner was aggressive, he verbally abused me, and even made me feel threatened by claiming he had recorded me. What should have been a special night turned into a deeply unpleasant experience. It was a waste of money and time, and I left feeling extremely disappointed. The reviews already they have was not organic one i am 100% sure. SAVE MONEY SAVE TIME

Dirty place, never again!!!! The staff's greasy footprints were all over the place, even in the kitchen. The wrong drinks were brought at first, but that was okay. The mixed Royal Pakora appetizer platter for two people (€15.90) arrived after about 45 minutes. The portion was worthy of a child's plate; the fried vegetables and cheese pieces were probably microwaved, but some were still cold. The so-called chicken lollipop pieces were black in places and looked like they had been left in the oven overnight, and were also lukewarm. Sorry, you can't serve something like that! This is the worst restaurant in Hamburg. Oh yeah, the staff was nice :)

Never ever visit this place this a complete scam. It takes ages before the food arrives at your table. And then surprisingly it’s cold, probably leftovers from yesterday or left over scrapes. Totally disgusting. So being polite just asked for the bill. Then the scam start there pin machine is broken so you need to pay cash. They will lead you to an ATM machine outside at their wall so you can get cash, than when you return magically they increased the total, no receipts no willingness to write down, after a lot of heckling they finally gave up and return back to the total they initially said. With an empty stomach you later find out that the ATM machine charges you a 6% fee even. I would not be surprised if they allowed the ATM machine to be located there with them getting a monthly payment for it. Really hope that this does not end up by sitting to whole night on the toilet. One advice never ever eat here.

We reached the hotel just 10 minutes before the closing time still they agreed to take the order. The food was very tasty. They served a shot of mango lassi in the end - it was amazing. The flavour was authentic with the right amount of sweetness, mango pulp and cardamom. Must visit if you are in and around hamburg hauptbahnhof.

Terrible Experience – Felt Cheated! I buy egg fried rice for takeaway and it was honestly one of the worst meals I’ve ever had. It didn’t taste anything like fried rice — the rice was sticky, soggy, and felt like yesterday’s stale leftovers. The texture was completely off, and the overall taste was just disgusting. No flavor, no freshness — just a bowl of disappointment. I paid €14 for this, and it felt like a total waste of money. For that price, I expected at least a decent meal, but what I got was poorly made rice that I couldn’t even finish. Definitely not going back. Would not recommend if you’re looking for quality or authenticity.

We tried several Indian dishes here. The menu includes typical Indian dishes like curries, naan, and the like, and there's also a large selection for vegetarians and vegans. The food was prepared fairly quickly. Everything tasted okay; it was well-seasoned, but nothing special in my opinion. I've had better meals at some nearby Indian restaurants. The food wasn't bad, though. The ambiance is very simple; I didn't really find the restaurant cozy. Some areas didn't seem very clean, for example, in the hallway downstairs toward the restrooms. Next time, I'd rather buy takeaway. Overall, I thought the visit to Royal Punjab was okay. It's definitely worth doing.

They served me tap water but charged it as "mineral water" — completely dishonest. The food was tasteless, and the overall service was zero. I do not recommend this place, especially for tourists, Germans, or any foreigners. It feels like they’re trying to scam visitors who may not know better. Please avoid supporting establishments like this that show no respect to customers.

I went there little late with my parents and sister. It was around 21 and mostly all Indian restaurants get closed by 20 but Royal Punjab has its kitchen open by 23. The food was good but the host Ms. Swapandeep Kaur was great, she really entertained us and talked openly about her life (work, family, struggles, successes) in Germany and that too in Punjabi. We will go there again just to meet Miss Kaur and also order some good Indian food on the side.

This is as Indian kitsch ambience as it gets, things are a bit messy but coming straight from the heart. Food is underwhelming all 6 dishes we had: aloo beigan, paneer Chana Lahori, tarka Dhaal, Chana masala, bhindi masala and paneer tikka were almost of the same taste. Batura was flat as earth. :) the comment was ‘luft is weg’ Ambience is of what you would like if you would want to be India food was unfortunately is what roadside dhaba would never dare to serve. Please avoid. Waitress was nice and apologetic though.

Portions are tasty but small. Like it's not possible to share one dish which is quite pricey at around €15. The bhuna was excellent, I wished they would bottle and sell that. The food was rather fresh, the place could be spruced up. However it's a great location and attentive service and tasty food that's why it gets a 5 stars but if they want people coming back they could listen to my feedback 🫣😊 Go. Enjoy!
