Rive Fish & Faible in Hamburg

Rive is the place ai was at few years ago on business group dinner. I remembered fabulous view and vibe and OK dinner (preset menu with wiener schnitzel in fish joint). I am again on business in Hamburg and this time I am taking care of myself- booked for lunch in Rive. View is still outstanding. This time I went for fish. Tuna sashimi new way, fish soup and sole from the grill. All excellent. Added Jermann Sauvignon blanc and good service- makes my lunch perfect.

We visited Rive, Fish & Faible Restaurant on Saturday, January 25th at 8:00 p.m. The visit was based on a recommendation and we were curious to see whether the numerous positive reviews lived up to our expectations. The restaurant is located in close proximity to the Hamburg fish market and offers modern furnishings with a fantastic view of the Elbe. The lighting was pleasantly dim, but bright enough to see the food and menu clearly. The volume was comfortable and the distance between the tables offered enough privacy. As expected, the menu is dominated by fish dishes, but also offers classics such as Wienerschnitzel. As a starter we chose the tartare of Loch Duart salmon with potato rosti, garden cress, pickled shallots and sauce gribiche as well as the Rive bouillabaisse with sauce rouille. For the main course we decided on the moules frites (mussels in a white wine herb stock with French fries and sauce rouille) and the saltwater prawns (fried in herb butter, with oven-baked tomatoes and toasted sourdough baguette). The ingredients were consistently of excellent quality and ensured a fresh taste. However, the preparation could have been a little more sophisticated for our taste. The bouillabaisse was rather clear and mild, which took away some of the spice and depth of missing herbs that one typically desires in this dish. The mussel broth was also subtle and could have shone even more with stronger flavors. When it came to service, we had the impression that there was a staff shortage. The service seemed stressed and rushed, which seemed rather inappropriate in an upscale atmosphere. Even if the waiting times were acceptable, the hustle and bustle spoiled the atmosphere. What should be positively highlighted are the location and the upscale ambience, which despite everything enhanced the evening. However, the subtle preparation of the dishes and the hectic service did not completely convince us. Due to the large selection of restaurants in Hamburg, we would probably choose a different restaurant on our next visit.

Perfekter, traditioneller Service. Räume eher dunkel, das dient der besseren Aussicht auf den Hafen, Teller sind aber ausreichend beleuchtet. Wartezeit auf das Essen vollkommen ok. Sehr angenehmer Abend.

Das Essen war relativ gut. Natürlich hat man schon besser gegessen aber viel auszusetzen gibt es nicht. Die Seezunge war sehr gut! Der Lachs in Nusskruste mit Trüffel und Gnocchi ware etwas langweilig aber das ist auch Geschmacksache. Die Qualität des Fisches war jedoch wirklich ausgezeichnet. Was ich leider zu bemängeln habe, war der Service! So einen schlechten Service hab ich schon lange nichtmehr erlebt. Es wurde viel zu wenig nachgefragt ob alles passt, man noch etwas haben möchte etc. Ich wollte gerne nach dem Essen noch ein Glas Wein bestellen. Nachdem ich fast 20 Minuten!! darauf gewartet habe, dass jemand vorbeikommt, war ich kurz davor selbst aufzustehen und zur Bar zu laufen und das in solch einem Restaurant! In der Zeit drehte ich mich öfter in Richtung Kellner und gab deutlich zu erkennen, dass ich warte. Die Bedienungen waren gerade dabei zu essen und interessierten sich nicht für uns. Ich gönne jedem seine Pause aber die Kundschaft dafür sitzen zu lassen ist eine Frechheit. Ein Kellner kam dann nach langer Wartezeit etwas genervt zu uns. Ich hatte mich wirklich auf das Essen und die Location gefreut aber der Umgang hat mir etwas den Abend verdorben. Wir hatten eher das Gefühl, schnell abgefertigt zu werden. Wenn der Service der Qualität des Essens angepasst werden würde, würde ich gerne wieder hin aber so leider nichtmehr!

Really a very nice restaurant with a great view. The food is pretty good but the prices are just too high. You simply pay attention to the view. You can do it, but I think you can eat better in Hamburg for the money. But with a worse outlook.

Very friendly service, perfect harbor atmosphere with a direct view of the Elbe. However, the focus was on the food, which was without exception excellent for 5 people with 3 courses. In addition to short waiting times, we liked that there were still many classics to choose from in addition to the partly very creative menu, meaning that every person left the restaurant with a smile. We went to Rive on Christmas Day and had an extremely pleasant meal. The atmosphere, the food and the friendly staff – simply TOP! We particularly like that many dishes are available in both small and large portions. I always opt for the small portions, which are so generous that I can barely manage them. Absolutely recommended!

Ein rundum stimmiges Sylvestererlebnis vor beeindruckender Hamburger Kulisse

Wie zu erwarten sehr schöne Aussicht am Abend über den Hafen. Bei gut gefülltem Restaurant etwas laute Akustik. Vorspeise Thuna sashimi sehr gut. Moules frite eher durschnittlich. Tuna rare im Hauptgang ebenfalls sehr gut. Wir würden wieder kommen.

We are guests at Reve between days. The starters, Cesar salad with prawns and Büsumer crabs, were just as excellent as our main courses, fried scallops on beetroot, risotto and veal Wiener schnitzel. Regarding Wiener Schnitzel, it should be noted that I have eaten it in many restaurants. I can confirm that the Wiener Schnitzel at Reve was exceptionally tender, served with highly baked breading and terrific, lukewarm potato salad. Even if you wouldn't expect it for a fish restaurant, it's a real recommendation for schnitzel gourmets! Also worth mentioning is the very attentive staff and the pleasant atmosphere for a restaurant of this size.

We visited Rive & Fish in Hamburg on a Sunday for a quick lunch, drawn by its appealing location and waterfront views. While the atmosphere was pleasant and we were warmly welcomed with a nice table by the window, the overall experience was disappointing. One of the first things we noticed was that the floor wasn’t very clean, which detracted from the otherwise inviting ambiance. The service started off fine but quickly showed signs of carelessness. The menu handed to us had breadcrumbs inside, which didn’t leave a great first impression. For starters, we ordered the bouillabaisse with sauce rouille. Unfortunately, the soup was watery and lacked the aromatic depth we expected, and the rouille sauce was essentially a red-tinted mayonnaise with no hint of saffron or garlic. When we shared our feedback, the server simply shrugged it off, saying it was a matter of taste and how they prepare it. We hoped the main courses would redeem the meal, but they only made matters worse. After waiting almost 45 minutes, we were served dishes that didn’t match the descriptions on the menu. The salmon was served with gnocchi instead of tortellini, and the codfish came with potato purée, bacon, sauerkraut, and grapes—completely different from the saffron brandade and other ingredients listed. To make matters worse, the service didn’t inform us of these changes beforehand. By that point, we were too hungry and annoyed to complain further and just wanted to eat and leave. Sadly, the food didn’t justify the long wait or the high price, as it was lacking in both flavor and creativity. Overall, the beautiful view was the only redeeming quality of this visit. The combination of inattentive service, poorly executed dishes, and unreasonably high prices made for a frustrating experience. We won’t be returning.

Seit Jahren eine meiner Lieblings Locations, Frische geschmackvolle ambitionierte Küche zu realistischen Preisen. Das freundliche langjährige Personal verbreitet ein wenig Italien Feeling an der Elbe.

Alles in allem war der Besuch eine gute Wahl . Persönliche Begrüßung und Gratulation für die Geburtstagsperson. Sehr gut.

We’ve dined at this restaurant several times, and the food is truly delicious! I really enjoy the atmosphere here, especially before the New Year—the Christmas tree fits perfectly into the interior. However, the service this time could have been better, as it seemed like we were served by a waiter who had just started working there 😑

We had a perfect restaurant visit. We were able to taste all of the starters because we asked that we order them together. All great! Staff very attentive without being intrusive. The main course is fish with mustard sauce. Perfect. The location is exceptional. While you dine you have a great panoramic view of the harbor at night and the ships sail right past the window. Definitely great in summer when the terrace is open. Clear recommendation.

The price-size ratio of the portion does not match. Example: Scallops over 40 euros. The service is quick, but at the same time impersonal. Well attended on my visit.

Been here again 10-24 and a fixture on every visit to Hamburg. simply TOP. A culinary experience of a special kind. Absolute enjoyment. We are already looking forward to next time.

Wir waren früher öfter da. Es ist immer noch gutes Essen und der Blick ist wirklich toll. Aber wir waren nicht ganz überzeugt. Essen war wirklich gut aber eben nicht ausgezeichnet. Teuer ist es ja heute fast überall. Also ist der Preis ok. Aber eben nicht voll zufrieden. Da ist der Blick auf die Elbe schon das Highlight.

Food was excellent but the service was disorganized and very poor. Example, the waiter greeed us at the table with "bitte". I usually experience a more friendly and welcoming greeting. Was off-putting immediately and set the tone for the whole evening. I would give this place another chance but if the service is like this again I will avoid.

A so-called half lobster for €49.00 completely dried together so little lobster meat - catastrophe! When I pointed this out to the service person, he said that's just how it is with us! At the end the waiter offered us each a schnapps to compensate. My sole was very large, unfortunately very firm! I don't have soles more tender.

Once again at the Rive and again very satisfied. The cuisine is constantly evolving and even classics such as Scottish organic salmon come with exciting variations. The Rive version of the Vitello Tonnato is great. And as always, impeccable service. Addendum: Just back with guests at the Rive. A friend has some intolerances. Unfortunately the lady from service wasn't really able to handle it. No alternative suggestions and only a rather unwilling response to requests for changed dishes. The other guests' dishes were also not as convincing as we have otherwise experienced. Too bad

A very nice restaurant right at the harbor. Even a nice terrace - but too cold in the evenings for us in October. We had made a reservation and were unloaded from the taxi directly in front of the restaurant. The well-lit and protected entrance was impossible to miss. We were warmly greeted in the restaurant, our coats were taken away and we were shown to our table. A beautiful view - also of the ships passing by - brightens up the evening. The menu is very interesting and offers a good selection. We had starters and main course and a good bottle of wine. Bouillabaisse with rouille - very tasty are served at the table! The second starter was the sashimi under a foam, sashimi delicious. But you don't need the foam. The main courses were Mediterranean pulpo with risotto and salmon with stock and mushrooms. Pulpo nice and dark with excellent vegetables and a perfectly fitting lemon risotto that rounds everything off nicely. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the broth was nicely poured in, along with mushrooms and tortellini. Very good! The service is always attentive and friendly! We enjoyed the evening. We have that

First time visiting, and we based our choice mainly on recent reviews. Service was great, the waiters gave ample time between courses and were attentive but not intrusive. Our meals were good, food arrived hot, delicious. Nice ambiance, excellent views, low noise level. I would definitely go again.

Great place right on the Elbe, very friendly service and well-cooked and sometimes creative food. Extra requests are easily fulfilled. Portions are rather small, but of top quality.

Mit eine der schönsten Terrassen Hamburgs. Leider waren zwei der von uns ausgewählten Gerichte schon ausverkauft, was man uns erst nach der Entscheidung mitteilte. Ansonsten war der Abend sehr schön. Alle Speisen haben sehr gut geschmeckt!

Beim wiederholten Besuch wieder alles in bester Ordnung gewesen. Der Service schnell, aber nicht hektisch, freundlich aber mit guter Distanz. Eine gute Wahl

Besser und direkter an der Elbe kann die Lage nicht sein, der Raum licht und hell. Vielleicht ein wenig laut, aber das passt zum Stil des Hauses. Die Bedienung ausgesprochen locker und sehr herzlich, von unserer Servicekraft, über den Empfang bis zur Chefin, die durchgehend aktiv und aufmerksam mitgearbeitet hat. Die Preise sind gehoben, aber dafür wird auch entsprechende Qualität geliefert. Die Portionen sind nicht besonders groß, aber absolut passend und die Zutaten exzellent. Und wenn es zu den Jakobsmuscheln mit Pfifferlingen wirklich nur drei winzige Stückchen Gnocchi gibt, dann reicht eine freundliche Frage an den Service - zwei Minuten später steht eine weitere Schale extra Gnocchi auf dem Tisch, natürlich ohne Berechnung und frisch aus der Pfanne für uns zubereitet. Das nenne ich Gastlichkeit, da komme ich gerne wieder hin, da mag sich manches andere Restaurant in der Nähe, welches mit seiner altbackenen Tradition wirbt, diese aber nicht in die Neuzeit übersetzt hat, eine dicke Scheibe von abschneiden. Wir sind Fans des Rive, so geht Fischereihafen heute!

Es war perfekt. Und die Meeresfrüchte Platte für zwei Personen, der Wahnsinn!

Jetzt das 3te Mal innerhalb von 6 Wochen ... das sagt schon alles oder ? ! Essen, Service, Locaction top. Geräuschpegel na ja ... hatten am Nebentisch Engländer sitzen, das war ziemlich nervig und laut. Die Preise sind nicht ohne ... leider.

Ein wunderschöner Abend in einem wunderschönen Restaurant. Es hat alles gepasst!

Der Empfang war sofort im Bilde über die angekündigte Glutenunverträglichkeit meiner Freundin. Auch der Wunsch nach einem Tisch am Fenster wurde uns erfüllt. Das Essen und die Getränke, alles sehr gut. Wir hätten uns etwas mehr Aufmerksamkeit vom Service erwartet. Wahrscheinlich lag es aber auch daran, dass unsere freundliche Kellnerin zahlreiche Tische zu betreuen hatte. Alles in allem hat es uns gut gefallen und wir kommen bei unseren nächsten Tripp nach HH gerne wieder.

Food and atmosphere are amazing but servis is a bit slow

Als Hamburger Jung muss man das Hafentheater um das hervorragende Essen herum einfach lieben. Gern möchte man sich einen großen Anteil der Tage gönnen, sich auf der legendären Veranda verwöhnen zu lassen. Ein tolles, sehr aufmerksames Team, das uns immer wieder einen Traum ermöglicht. Volle Empfehlug !

Incredible view of the shipping traffic on the Elbe and the harbor. Nice service, but it decreases the more crowded the restaurant gets - the waiters' quick walking around spoils the atmosphere. Then you were no longer asked if you wanted to drink something else. Food very tasty but portions a bit too small. Ambience great!

Tolles Essen, aber preislich total überzogen - der Tagespreis für das Gericht mit der Nordseezunge lag bei 90 Euro! Zusätzlich dauerte es 1 Stunde ab Bestellung, bis die Gerichte zu uns zum Tisch kamen.

Wir haben gut gegessen mit tollem Ausblick von der Terrasse.
