Restaurant Zur Schortemühle in Ilmenau

We ate here with the team after a visit to the mine. My steak was delicious, even if it wasn't quite medium. The ambiance is very fitting, as it's inspired by the mine.

Had reserved seats. Hardly any choice of food, supposedly everything was out, but were there shortly after opening. Guests after us suddenly received food from a different menu. Salad plate with salmon was half a head of lettuce with a few strips of salmon and sauce on top. Expected better for the money. Even the children waited 1 hour for 1 dumpling with sauce. Only one of our group was full.

The service and ambience are absolutely top and absolute leaders in Ilmenau and the surrounding area. The food itself was very good, but unfortunately very bland. I really don't like it particularly spicy/salty, but unfortunately it tasted almost like nothing here. But pizza dough was really great - fluffy and not dry at all. Only the tomato sauce/topping could have been spicier. 🫶🏻 The desserts, on the other hand - absolutely tasty and extraordinary! 😍

We waited 1.5 hours for our food. The food wasn't that tasty considering the price. So, I wouldn't go back. The servers were very friendly, though.

30 minutes no drinks 90 minutes no food... it was the first time there and then something like this happened. There definitely won't be a second time.

Spontaneously "reserved" (recommended on weekends). Pleasant atmosphere, good attentive service staff. We had to wait a bit for the food, but we were informed of this beforehand (lunchtime, it was "full"!). It was definitely worth it. We'd love to come back.

Oh yes, I highly recommend this atmosphere. The food was plentiful and tasty as well as affordable. I'll take a look again in the summer. Dogs are allowed no matter how big or small. 😋

I'm just thrilled. Okay, you should book in advance on the weekend, but I was alone and got a spot. The girls in service always have a few kind words, are just great and what can I say, the food is delicious, rich and well prepared. Thank you for a wonderful time and I'll be happy to come back (at the table next to the coffee machine). 😂

Update February 2025: The food was very tasty, as was the service. The ambience was also good. Unfortunately just average food at (very) high prices. I used to enjoy going here. The price/performance ratio is no longer suitable. With all understanding that prices must rise during these times, but what is too much is too much. In addition, the annex is so acoustically unfavorable that it's hard to have a conversation because it's so loud at peak times. It's a shame, the location is nice, but there are better alternatives for eating out!

Three weeks ago we experienced something in this restaurant that we had never experienced before. The pricing on the menu and the price on the “mobile price board” that was brought to us did not match. (Obviously higher on the bill.) Unfortunately we only noticed this later. A phone call to inquire resulted in extreme surprise and astonishment from the service person. She couldn't say anything about it, but promised clarification. Despite repeated promises of callbacks, we are still waiting for them today. In the meantime I called several times. No promise was ever kept. Friendliness and promises without truthfulness are of little use to the guest in this case. We will not enter this restaurant again.

Yes gladly. Operation, service and food were great. Nice Christmas dinner. There wasn't a long wait either. Tip: be prepared for children's meals at Christmas.

Great atmosphere, really worth seeing. Food wasn't a highlight, it was technically okay. However, the duck leg was too salty. I wouldn't have thought that something as random as fries could be sold out. The chef couldn't offer fried potatoes as a replacement, strange. Everything is probably more focused on pizza and pasta. All in all, even the drinks were quite expensive, but we were happy to pay for the nice ambience.

Great restaurant, beautifully located in the valley outside Ilmenau. We ate deliciously and received great service. Very child-friendly and generally very friendly. All special requests are fulfilled and the price is also great.

With a reservation we waited 1.5 hours for the food even though it wasn't overcrowded. Guests who came after us had received their food sooner, eaten it and paid for it before ours arrived. A starter was completely forgotten and a pizza was cold when served. Drinks were not asked for and then had empty glasses when eating. The ambience and cleanliness are great, the rest wasn't so good today. We have been regular guests for years, it wasn't like that with the previous owner.

Absolute recommendation. It's rare to be treated so warmly. The food also tasted excellent (bruschetta, seasoned meat, pasta with shrimp, dumplings with truffle sauce and Nutella cream) The ambience is a wonderful mix of classy, ​​humorous and rustic. We'll definitely be back. The 3 Wandersleut.

Unfortunately, our visit to the winter terrace did not meet our expectations. The staff seemed uncommitted and inflexible, and there wasn't enough change available. More professionalism would also have been desirable in the appearance in front of the guests. All of these aspects contributed to an uninviting atmosphere in which we did not feel comfortable. This is in contrast to the well-kept outdoor areas and the overall attractive property, which actually appear inviting and arouse high expectations.

Very nice restaurant with friendly people. Unfortunately, some offers were no longer available and were not shown. We'll try again in the spring and give the service staff another chance to look after us and our guests more intensively.

The extremely great ambience, the beautifully furnished and decorated rooms and the very friendly and pleasant staff made the stay positive. We were invited for a birthday and found a very good selection of food and drinks. We were all very happy with the taste, price and portion sizes! The sanitary rooms were, as mentioned, a feast for the eyes! All in all, a great restaurant in a very beautiful natural setting! 👍🏻

Dear Mr. Student, dear team, It happened to us for the third time today that we didn't get an offer to eat after 2 p.m. Other guests felt the same way. It is not a problem for us if there is a corresponding note on the website. Unfortunately this is missing. There was also no offer of cake. The service staff was still very friendly and at least brought us a carpaccio for two people. However, we have to point out that you don't get the feeling that the team spirit is lived by the staff. If there is nothing to do behind the counter, you should help the other staff. By the way, in the past, even in the past, there was always something to eat when you came. What a shame! Update 10/2024: After avoiding the curd for a long time, I wanted to convince myself of its new qualities after the change of ownership. And I wasn't disappointed. The food is very good, the service was excellent. It's just not necessarily suitable for those on a very tight budget. But if you want to treat yourself to something good in a nice atmosphere, you will find it here. I will come again.

Very nice restaurant. The menu is small but the food is very tasty. The entrance to the mine was very interesting. The tour was professionally done by a former miner. There is no hard work being done on the outside area. We particularly liked the toilet area. Very originally designed. Unfortunately only those for men 😉. The trip to Schortemühle is highly recommended.

We had reserved for 6 p.m. and were already there when the appointment was canceled by phone. We were put off until 7 p.m. because a table only became available. We were so disappointed that we then looked for another restaurant .

Very tasty food, original toilets and exciting surroundings with the old mining industry

The food, the ambience was great! The only criticism I would have would be that the lettuce was cut way too big and the tomatoes were tasteless. No variety of salads, just iceberg. The salad seemed bland at first. Otherwise everything is great!

The service was OK, tables weren't clean, there was no cutlery and not even a napkin for the bruschetta. We have been here many times, but unfortunately disappointed today.

We always enjoy coming here on our vacation. The food is always okay, today we were once again particularly pleasantly surprised with the delicious Italian starter Bruschetta. By the way, the themed toilets are recommended. Just drive in and be amazed (see photos).

Very nice restaurant with a great menu.

It was very nice, the food was nicely prepared and tasted good too. Service (the young man with glasses) was very attentive and courteous, great for unskilled people. All in all very nice. Much better than its predecessor! Good luck to the new owner. The only thing to note...a bit too expensive. Nothing for monthly visits. There are restaurants in the area where the steak of four is €7 cheaper for good taste and a large portion. Thank you for the lovely evening.

The landscape is probably the highlight,...pure nature, with the right concept you can do a lot here. I wish the owner good luck and success, ideas are the icing on the cake.

Great ambience and overall a well-kept and clean impression. The menu also offers a good selection for those on a smaller budget - and what we ordered (pizza and lasagna) tasted delicious. A restaurant that can be recommended.

The food was good but the portions didn't do justice to the price.

We made reservations on a Sunday and placed our food order around 1:45 p.m. After repeated inquiries, including from other tables, we received our food at around 3:15 p.m. I enjoyed a pizza and dumplings with sauce. The time between ordering and receiving the food was unreasonable. The restaurant wasn't even half full. The reason for the long waiting time is probably that when the outdoor area is also open, the same number of kitchen staff is available as if only the indoor area were open. Of course that doesn't work. The service didn't seem particularly professional. Instead of accepting the criticism, people defended themselves: "Food is freshly prepared, it just takes time." Wrong orders were taken, unordered items were brought to the table and there didn't seem to be any organization (waiter 1, table 1-8, waiter 2, table 9-16, etc.). Extra ham for the pizza was forgotten. Of course, this wasn't corrected immediately in the system, but only when I pointed it out when paying. My companions have been to the Schortenmühle before and there were no such problems. Maybe next time I'll order before I set off on my bike in Erfurt. Then hopefully the food will be ready 2 hours later.

Always tasty and a great team. Ambiance really exceptional for the location and location. The attention to detail in the furnishings and the connection to the mine are very well done.

The most idyllic restaurant in Ilmenau and the surrounding area. Very good service and excellent cuisine. And best of all, when the weather is good you can sit on the terrace. Children can play in the large meadows and if you have the time and desire you can take a trip into the old mine tunnels.

I can only warmly recommend the Schortemühle. The food, service and ambience were excellent. The huge terrace and the mountain railway that takes guests through the forest are a highlight.

Today we ate here again after actually positive experiences and were very disappointed. The waitress took the order and didn't even look at us after that. Unfortunately, a repeat order was only possible because the boss noticed that we weren't being served. However, this order only arrived at the counter and not at our table. Unfortunately, the food wasn't satisfactory either. Pizza very sparsely topped and dry, but with a wide edge🙄. The ruccola that came with it was peppered with grass... very tasty 🤔. The observation I had to make in the kitchen wasn't appetizing at all. There was just a "construction worker" with dirty clothes and shoes standing on the counter next to the prepared salad...that doesn't work at all😖. Can't compare with before and can't recommend anymore.

The ambience is really great, we were there on a Friday and it wasn't very crowded.. The first drink order came quickly and so did the food.. The food was delicious.. Unfortunately, we were completely overlooked by the service and we had to wave and shout to draw attention to ourselves. Unfortunately, that was a real shame and it was probably the first and last time I was there..

Spontaneous visit with 9 people, food and staff everything went well, we were very satisfied, large selection of food and for every taste. Large portions.

Nice beer garden to sit outside. Interior also modernly furnished. The toilets and the path there are a highlight. The service was also good, although there was a slight hint of hecticness when we were there on Friday evening and it was quite busy. Pasta and pizza were good. Roulade and trout were edible, but we wouldn't order them again. We were just looking forward to it. The dumplings were convenience. Red cabbage was rather greyish, everything seemed warmed up. The trout miller was in the deep fryer. This makes it far too crispy and greasy. The potato also adds convenience. Good thing there was still the salad. The garden lemonade was delicious.

The food was of outstanding quality and production. The service was extremely courteous and nice. What particularly stood out were the sanitary facilities & a real feast for the eyes. We were even given a wonderful red rose. When we were here a long time ago, it was improved to its present condition. Overall, I would give it 11/10 points🤣😅 🤭

We went to the Schortemühle for lunch today for the first time and we were impressed by the service, the food and the ambience. Our Moppsi was also welcome. The restaurant deserves an absolute recommendation.

One of the few places in Ilmenau and the surrounding area where you can have a cozy meal 😉 The ambience is nice but partly wildly thrown together, the dining room is cozy, when you go to the toilet you think you are in a scene bar in Berlin with modern elements and partly also very disreputable.

Great, cozy atmosphere and a very special design on the toilet and on the way there. Very friendly service and super delicious food. The prices are reasonable. For my taste, the selection of vegetarian dishes could be a little larger, but that's complaining at a high level. We'd love to come back.

We went out to eat spontaneously, without a reservation and immediately got a table for two people. The atmosphere and staff were great, you didn't have to wait long for the food, about 15 minutes, everything was freshly prepared and tasted delicious. I can only recommend.

On November 24th, 2023 I had a celebration with around 50 people in the Schortemühle. Reservations and arrangements were made quickly and easily. Even though the entire restaurant was full of guests, the service was great. We didn't have to wait long and the food was very good! I would do exactly the same again at any time!

Very nice! The food is really more than good, especially the lasagna and the trout. In the evening you can also have mega cocktails mixed. The staff is always courteous and really friendly. I always enjoy coming here!

First class restaurant. Had dinner there. Extensive menu at high prices, but it was worth every penny. The quality and especially the quantity of the food were above average. Top service and also ambience. We arrived unannounced with two dogs, were immediately invited in and allowed to sit down - without complaining. We were very satisfied and would like to come back.

Die Gaststätte sah so einladend aus, dass wir uns spontan zu einem Besuch entschlossen. Obwohl wir keine Reservierung hatten, besorgte uns die freundliche Bedienung einen Tisch. Eine Reservierung ist gerade zur Mittagszeit zu empfehlen. Die Einrichtung in der Gaststätte ist neu, hochwertig und sehr geschmackvoll. Ein besonderes Highlight sind die Toiletten 😀 Die Preise waren normal und die Pizza war die beste, die ich seit langem hatte! Einfach nur lecker. Hier kommen wir bestimmt wieder hin. Falls man es noch nicht gemerkt hat, ich bin begeistert das so etwas im Thüringer Wald gibt 🤩
