This was our first time here and we were absolutely thrilled. We received a super friendly welcome, and the feeling continued until we left. The food was delicious and freshly prepared. We absolutely loved the ambiance. We can recommend it to anyone traveling in Ilmenau and the surrounding area. We will definitely be back next year.

I had lunch at the Schortemühle and was completely impressed: delicious food, fast service, and a very friendly team. What's particularly charming is that the "Volle Rose" show mine is right next door, definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended!

We're already regular customers here. The atmosphere and the staff are always friendly, and they try to be nice even when they're under pressure. The food is also really good. The menu is small so far, but I think there's something for everyone. I definitely recommend the bruschetta as a starter. It's really big and can be used as a snack between meals. We have two children, and they really enjoy the new playground. They really thoughtfully placed a table, benches, and chairs right on the playground. With the attached mine, there's also something for older children and their parents.

Our parents' and their guests' diamond wedding anniversary was an unforgettable experience thanks to the excellent and extremely friendly service at the cozy coffee table. The cake was plentiful and delicious; nothing was missing. The subsequent trip to the mine was well coordinated by the team, and everything ran smoothly. Beautifully quiet restaurant with sights to see.

We ate at the Schortmühle on July 13, 2025. We made a reservation online, and it worked out wonderfully. We had previously booked the trip into the mine and through the valley as an add-on. It was a fun experience. Afterward, we went straight to the adjacent restaurant. The staff greeted us very warmly. The menu is well-arranged, but we enjoyed the dishes immensely. We had venison goulash with dumplings and schnitzel with fries. Even a small cooking problem with the schnitzel was solved quickly and efficiently!!! 🙏 Considering the thin staffing that day, we found the service very good and courteous!!! We couldn't understand the negative reviews about poor service; on the contrary, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the excellent service 🙏

Simply phenomenal. The food was amazing, the service was top-notch. The ambiance was truly worth seeing.

While it's noted that the menu has been "reduced," it's worth mentioning that there are no pizzas, only one pasta dish, roulades, and goulash. So it's no surprise that the tables remain empty. It's a real shame; I've been here many times and I really enjoyed it.

Very nice location, but the service and the wait for the food were very long. The salad with turkey strips from a bag for €18 was very disappointing.

We had a lovely birthday party with 14 people at the Schorte. Lunch, coffee, and dinner were all to our complete satisfaction. The new operators are making a great effort. The very friendly service is particularly noteworthy. The ride on the train is always fun, not just for children. The playground and outdoor dining area are also very well done. Keep up the good work, and a big thank you to the entire team. We'll be back soon.

It's very, very nice there. Unfortunately, the food is really expensive for the portions you get. And the mine itself is relatively beautiful, though.

It's a shame you can't give the ambiance six stars. It's really cool. And the food was wonderful, too. Not cheap, but not overpriced either. It's a great place to eat after a train ride to the mine or around the area.

A Day Full of Warmth, Nature & Adventure – Volle Rose & Schortemühle in Ilmenau Our trip to Schorte Mill was a true experience – for all ages! Even the drive through the forest sets the tone for what awaits: pure nature, nestled in lush greenery and lovingly maintained down to the smallest detail. A large parking lot, beautifully landscaped outdoor areas, and a wonderful playground complete the perfect first impression. We started with the trip to the "Volle Rose" show mine – in true style, wearing helmets and sitting closely together on small wooden benches through the dark tunnels. Our miner explained everything with a great deal of humor, knowledge, and passion – it was both exciting and funny. And here's a huge compliment: The team at the mine and the train drivers were exceptionally friendly and accommodating – you felt like they could anticipate your every wish! They truly enjoy their work, communicate well, and show genuine interest in their guests. You rarely experience something like that. Afterwards, we went to the Schortemühle restaurant – a truly relaxing place with plenty of charm, style, and taste. The restrooms are a little highlight in themselves – each cubicle is unique and lovingly decorated. The food? Absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and served quickly, even when it's very busy. What makes the whole experience special: The entire staff – from the cleaning staff to the waiters and receptionists – were all friendly, helpful, and welcoming. You really feel welcome! Finally, we took a ride on the narrow-gauge railway through the idyllic Schorte Valley – a relaxing ride through forests, streams, and meadows. Here again: friendly staff whose attention to detail rounded off a perfect day. Conclusion: A place full of dedication, friendliness, and a nature experience. Not just for children – a real highlight for adults too! We'll definitely be back. Full stars – and a big thank you to the entire team!

Not a recommendation. I was here during Children's Day and waited more than 60 minutes for tarte flambée. Unacceptable for the price.

The Schorte is a wonderful place.

The daily menu was offered at all other tables in the restaurant. At our table, however, the waiter made no effort to offer us the additional food on the regular menu. It was the same with dessert. Here too, all other tables were made aware of the additional offer to the regular menu. Unfortunately, the wild garlic soup and the wild garlic pesto had an extremely bitter taste. All in all, the asparagus and pasta were okay. However, you can expect better quality for the prices quoted. Overall, unfortunately, it was the third disappointing visit to the Schortemühle in a row. Very unfortunate!!!

The ambience is, as it has been since the renovation a few years ago, very appealing. High-quality furniture and a great overall concept. The Schorte's new food concept is no longer geared towards almost exclusively Italian dishes. There are seasonal dishes with asparagus, individual dishes with an Italian background and German dishes. The previously outstanding Pizza Napoletana is no longer available, which is very sad. The food today was okay (although quite expensive), but nothing more. Both wild garlic soup and pasta with wild garlic pesto were quite bitter, but that's a matter of taste. Unfortunately, after we ordered, we saw other dishes at all the other tables that were not listed on the regular menu. Guests after us were presented with a day menu. Not to us, but obviously to the guests in front of us, because there is no other way to explain the other dishes. But since we had already ordered, there was nothing that could be changed. For dessert, all tables were offered a dessert that was not listed on the menu, except us. The service itself was extremely friendly and attentive when it came to the food served. This makes the behavior all the more surprising that we were apparently the only table not to find out about the daily menu. What else should you answer to the final question about whether everything was okay?! After everything was too late, any complaint would no longer have been of any use. The fact that the menu has changed is purely a matter of taste and is certainly more appealing to others than the previous Italian focus. For me personally, it's a reason not to be a guest again anytime soon, because I've always enjoyed coming here regularly because of the excellent pizza.

We visited the Schortemühle for dinner with 7 people - the food and the waiting time were ok - the problem was that one of our guests was charged twice - once in cash and later the guest in question was charged again by me because the money was suddenly missing - the situation was not clarified consistently. Very annoying when you pay around €50 for “nothing”.

We took a great hiking break here and were pleasantly surprised at how great it is here. A huge playground for the kids, a charging station for e-bikes, a water wheel and an incredibly great toilet (you really have to see it!) were just a few of the additional things that went along with all the delicious drinks and food. Great place here with a lot of attention to the details.

We dined here with the team after a visit to the mine. My steak was very tasty, even if it wasn't quite medium rare. The ambience is very appropriate because it is based on the mine.

Had reserved seats. Hardly any choice of food, supposedly everything was out, but were there shortly after opening. Guests after us suddenly received food from a different menu. Salad plate with salmon was half a head of lettuce with a few strips of salmon and sauce on top. Expected better for the money. Even the children waited 1 hour for 1 dumpling with sauce. Only one of our group was full.

The service and ambience are absolutely top and absolute leaders in Ilmenau and the surrounding area. The food itself was very good, but unfortunately very bland. I really don't like it particularly spicy/salty, but unfortunately it tasted almost like nothing here. But pizza dough was really great - fluffy and not dry at all. Only the tomato sauce/topping could have been spicier. 🫶🏻 The desserts, on the other hand - absolutely tasty and extraordinary! 😍

Spontaneously "reserved" (recommended on weekends). Pleasant atmosphere, good attentive service staff. We had to wait a bit for the food, but we were informed of this beforehand (lunchtime, it was "full"!). It was definitely worth it. We'd love to come back.

The girls in service always have a few kind words, are just great and what can I say, the food is delicious, rich and well prepared. Update February 2025: The food was very tasty, as was the service. The ambience was also good. Unfortunately just average food at (very) high prices. I used to enjoy going here. The price/performance ratio is no longer suitable. With all understanding that prices must rise during these times, but what is too much is too much. In addition, the annex is so acoustically unfavorable that it's hard to have a conversation because it's so loud at peak times. It's a shame, the location is nice, but there are better alternatives for eating out!

Three weeks ago we experienced something in this restaurant that we had never experienced before. The pricing on the menu and the price on the “mobile price board” that was brought to us did not match. (Obviously higher on the bill.) Unfortunately we only noticed this later. A phone call to inquire resulted in extreme surprise and astonishment from the service person. She couldn't say anything about it, but promised clarification. Despite repeated promises of callbacks, we are still waiting for them today. In the meantime I called several times. No promise was ever kept. Friendliness and promises without truthfulness are of little use to the guest in this case. We will not enter this restaurant again.

Great atmosphere, really worth seeing. Food wasn't a highlight, it was technically okay. However, the duck leg was too salty. I wouldn't have thought that something as random as fries could be sold out. The chef couldn't offer fried potatoes as a replacement, strange. Everything is probably more focused on pizza and pasta. All in all, even the drinks were quite expensive, but we were happy to pay for the nice ambience.

With a reservation we waited 1.5 hours for the food even though it wasn't overcrowded. Guests who came after us had received their food sooner, eaten it and paid for it before ours arrived. A starter was completely forgotten and a pizza was cold when served. Drinks were not asked for and then had empty glasses when eating. The ambience and cleanliness are great, the rest wasn't so good today. We have been regular guests for years, it wasn't like that with the previous owner.

Unfortunately, our visit to the winter terrace did not meet our expectations. The staff seemed uncommitted and inflexible, and there wasn't enough change available. More professionalism would also have been desirable in the appearance in front of the guests. All of these aspects contributed to an uninviting atmosphere in which we did not feel comfortable. This is in contrast to the well-kept outdoor areas and the overall attractive property, which actually appear inviting and arouse high expectations.

The extremely great ambience, the beautifully furnished and decorated rooms and the very friendly and pleasant staff made the stay positive. We were invited for a birthday and found a very good selection of food and drinks. We were all very happy with the taste, price and portion sizes! The sanitary rooms were, as mentioned, a feast for the eyes! All in all, a great restaurant in a very beautiful natural setting! 👍🏻

Dear Mr. Student, dear team, It happened to us for the third time today that we didn't get an offer to eat after 2 p.m. Other guests felt the same way. It is not a problem for us if there is a corresponding note on the website. Unfortunately this is missing. There was also no offer of cake. The service staff was still very friendly and at least brought us a carpaccio for two people. However, we have to point out that you don't get the feeling that the team spirit is lived by the staff. If there is nothing to do behind the counter, you should help the other staff. By the way, in the past, even in the past, there was always something to eat when you came. What a shame! Very nice restaurant. The menu is small but the food is very tasty. The entrance to the mine was very interesting. The tour was professionally done by a former miner. There is no hard work being done on the outside area. We particularly liked the toilet area. Very originally designed. Unfortunately only those for men 😉. Very tasty food, original toilets and exciting surroundings with the old mining industry

The food, the ambience was great! The only criticism I would have would be that the lettuce was cut way too big and the tomatoes were tasteless. No variety of salads, just iceberg. The salad seemed bland at first. Otherwise everything is great!

The service was OK, tables weren't clean, there was no cutlery and not even a napkin for the bruschetta. We have been here many times, but unfortunately disappointed today.

Much better than its predecessor! Good luck to the new owner. The only thing to note...a bit too expensive. Nothing for monthly visits.
