It was a fantastic stay, very friendly staff, everyone was nice and welcoming, the food was great and the breakfast was amazing – something for everyone... I'd gladly come back again... the only thing that bothered me was the water pressure in the shower, it was unfortunately too weak... otherwise a very nice hotel and the rooms were always clean... I'd say it's amazing here... 💪💪💪💪👍👍👍👍 Parking in the underground garage is also great, you can walk right into the hotel from there.

We stay here a few times a year because our company has an office in Langewiesen. The rooms are very comfortable and clean, the breakfast is always excellent, and the Bel Canto restaurant is also great.

All I can say about the Illmenau Hotel is: ABSOLUTELY FIRST-CLASS. The welcome at the hotel was very warm. After checking in, our suitcases were brought to our room; in the meantime, we each enjoyed a drink that was advertised as a welcome drink. We had booked the hotel with breakfast. All I can say about the hotel management is: 1A; we were very well looked after and we were very impressed with everything. The staff were extremely friendly and always helpful, which is not always the case in other accommodations. The breakfast was plentiful. However, I do have a recommendation or suggestion regarding the bathroom: Is it possible to borrow a raised toilet seat from reception, as the seat is quite low. This makes it difficult for people with disabilities to get up from the seat. This is just a recommendation. ONCE AGAIN, A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL STAFF AND THE EXCELLENT HOTEL MANAGEMENT. We will definitely be regular guests, so we hope to see you again. Next time we'll take a taxi to the hotel, LAUGH

Unfortunately, it's an internet-only hotel, with no reception. Bookings aren't possible without internet and a credit card. Anyone who comes here on a whim and doesn't have a PC or credit card is just out of luck. That's what happened to me :-((( Cash isn't king everywhere...

Hotel close to the city center. Some staff members have limited understanding. The sauna, which is included in the price, requires advance reservation, but the reception was unavailable one day. Breakfast was okay, with coffee and cappuccino from an instant machine.

Dear Sir or Madam, I would like to complain about my stay at your hotel "Tanne" in Ilmenau, as it unfortunately did not meet my expectations. I stayed with a colleague for one night. We arrived around 8:30 p.m. and checked in. Afterwards, we wanted to eat in the hotel's restaurant, as the booking platform stated that the restaurant was open until 11:00 p.m. However, at 8:50 p.m., the waiter informed us that the kitchen was already closed. Only the bar was open until 11:00 p.m. We then decided to have a drink and make another reservation at the restaurant for the following evening. The next morning, when checking out, I later realized that I had left my wallet on the bedside table in my room. I tried several times to contact the hotel by phone, email, Booking.com, WhatsApp, and CHECK24 – unfortunately, without success. It wasn't until around 11:30 a.m. that I received an unexpected call from management informing me that my wallet had been found. When we returned that afternoon, the wallet was returned to me, but cash was missing. Management didn't even ask if everything was complete or if there were any discrepancies. The manager also complained that we hadn't informed them that we wanted to stay another night, as the rooms supposedly needed cleaning. I found this comment inappropriate, as cleaning is part of the daily routine anyway, and our request to extend our stay was expressed in a timely manner at the restaurant. I didn't complain further about the missing cash, as the amount was small and I didn't want any argument or unnecessary fuss. Nevertheless, the incident remains disappointing for me and leaves a negative impression. Furthermore, the communication overall was very unfriendly. The service in the restaurant was also disappointing: Although the restaurant stated it was open until 11:00 PM, coffee was no longer available after 9:00 PM because the machine had already been turned off. The hotel itself is fine, but the service and the way guests were treated leave a lot to be desired. The incident with the missing money and the management's response are particularly unacceptable to me. For these reasons, I rate the stay **2 out of 5 stars**. I can only recommend it with reservations – the accommodation is fine, but the service desperately needs improvement. Sincerely

I often enjoy the breakfast buffet with friends as a non-hotel guest. It's always a treat. The atmosphere, the selection, the friendly and attentive staff. You could say you feel completely at home. The price is also acceptable. I'd be happy to go back.

It's a very nice and modern hotel. The service was very friendly and accommodating. The half-board option was excellent.

We stayed at the hotel for two nights; the reception was a bit disorganized in terms of service. The underground parking garage was very well-organized and clean, even for us motorcyclists. The room was well-equipped, but the shower was inadequate; a small trickle came from the showerhead, which also leaked. The faucet by the sink was also leaking. Breakfast was okay, but these days I always wonder why they only serve pre-baked rolls. Surely guests are happy to pay €2 more for freshly baked goods.

The rooms are okay, nothing special. They could use a bit more attention, with little touches like more towels, shoehorns, and brighter lighting. Otherwise, a very nicely furnished hotel.

Our stay at the Hotel Tanne from August 22nd to August 26th, 2025 I made a mistake in my online booking. Therefore, I contacted the hotel reception by phone, where a friendly lady helped me. Upon arrival at the hotel, I was immediately told to only book online or by phone with Travdo Hotel in the future. Her staff, she said, had better things to do than deal with phone bookings. She was constantly getting into trouble with her boss because of other employees' mistakes. We later learned that she was the "boss" of the hotel. This statement, combined with the arrogant and patronizing tone, was unfamiliar to us in the past! We were always very satisfied guests! Furthermore, the quality of the breakfast and the restaurant had declined significantly. With a heavy heart, we will refrain from booking with her in the future! Regina Färber

The room was attractive and clean, underground parking was available, and the price was reasonable. We really enjoyed the breakfast; everything was on offer. Unfortunately, we were confronted with the term "staff shortage" too often! All in all, highly recommended.

I can only give my opinion of the restaurant. The service was unsatisfactory. The waitresses lacked motivation. The breading on the schnitzel was far too thick. The fried potatoes were very dark. After searching for a parking space in the parking garage, there were already problems with the space. The bay was too narrow, so we found a spot outside. The atmosphere was absolutely lousy.

It is a super nice hotel and also super friendly staff only to recommend

We stayed at the hotel for a family celebration and are very disappointed. From the outside, it looks good, which is why we chose it. The hotel is very large and confusing; the beds are very hard and the sheets have holes in them. Dust collects in the corners of the bathroom. Neither the shower gel (it was completely empty) nor the facial tissues (there was exactly one tissue left in the box) were refilled in our room before our arrival. The wooden furniture is also showing its age. Unfortunately, there is only an emergency number in the evening, which you should only call in an emergency, so you have no way to complain during a short stay. Due to the very limited reception opening hours, you also have to pay in advance, and you have to leave the key in a box upon departure, which is very unusual. In the restaurant, we were initially told that as far as starters are concerned, only the soups are available and nothing else. The food was okay, but nothing special. At breakfast, there are only half-baked wheat rolls, no bread rolls or whole-grain rolls, and only canned fruit. Unfortunately, the coffee is terrible, and the organ juice machine is broken. At the bar, you have to throw yourself in the way of the waiter after 8 p.m. to get a drink. All in all, the hotel was absolutely not worth the price. There's a lack of interest in the guests and in keeping the hotel attractive to them.

Great hotel, very central, great food. We had half board and were served a three-course meal. It was delicious, and you can choose from several main courses.

The hotel rooms are perfectly fine, spacious, and clean. Unfortunately, after a six-hour drive, we arrived at the hotel too early and wanted to ask if we could check in, as check-in is officially only possible from 3 p.m. This, of course, wasn't possible, and we were told this in a rather rude manner, so we walked through Ilmenau in the pouring rain. As a hotelier myself, I don't understand this behavior at all. There were plenty of rooms available, and I also know that rooms are ready for arrival at 1:30 p.m. Otherwise, all the staff were really nice. The breakfast, however, was really not good. While there was a large selection, we didn't like the quality of the products at all. The instant coffee from the machine was particularly awful. Unfortunately, we found out too late that they also serve filter coffee. All in all, I'd say the hotel is fine for a few days. The location is great.

The room is OK, with everything you need. The hotel's location is close to the city center. In my opinion, a major criticism is the breakfast, which is why I only gave it 2 stars in the "Service" category. The coffee is instant coffee. It tastes terrible. The rest of the breakfast is just standard convenience foods.

The hotel is in a cul-de-sac just after a roundabout. The welcome was warm; even though I booked via the Kurzurlaub.de app, it was no problem. I received all the vouchers and was able to move into my room shortly afterwards. The room was clean and the shower was big enough. The furniture is certainly a bit older, but that doesn't bother me. The light switches and lamps are well placed and functional. Breakfast was, as usual in hotels like this, only the orange juice came out of the machine at room temperature, but that's a matter of taste. I was a bit surprised that I was charged when I checked in. In retrospect, I actually preferred that. No long wait when checking out.

We arrived at the hotel at 2:50 p.m., and instead of a "Welcome," we received a "The rooms won't be ready until 3:00 p.m., so why don't you go back into town?" After a discussion about the fact that it was only 10 minutes until 3:00 p.m., we were given the room key. Next surprise: the payment was about €50 more. Luckily, I had the confirmation email handy. However, this had to be clarified with the head office. Upon arriving in the room, we discovered that only one bed was made. Housekeeping then resolved the issue. At some point, the head office confirmed the booked price, and we were able to pay. Then there were more discussions, including a drink voucher. After reviewing the booking email, it was issued rather reluctantly. We've been staying at the Tanne on and off for about 15 years. But this was the highlight. I would have liked a bit more leniency and friendliness. The room was otherwise okay, but the bathroom could have done with a bit of a clean in the problem areas (corners). The green Travdo toothbrush cups were more reminiscent of a youth hostel. The room was above a ballroom. On Friday evening, the bass was pounding until midnight. They could have mentioned that at check-in.

We arrived at the hotel as hikers from the Thuringian Forest and immediately found the hotel on the outskirts of town, feeling comfortable in the spacious room. The best part for us was that the sauna was still open in the evening (until 10 p.m.) and we could treat ourselves to something in the bar afterward. Both were very welcome after the long hike. And in our opinion, the Aperol Spritz was excellently mixed!

We were in that hall for the prom. It was so uncomfortable, because the supposedly air conditioning couldn't make the room bearable. It was stuffy, oppressively hot, and extremely uncomfortable. It's a shame, because it caused many guests to leave the event much early, and the rest stayed outside. 😞

The hotel is already old and this can be seen in the interiors, but it is clean and pleasant and has its own atmosphere. Like, for example, the keys - classic, metal (not card), and with a big heavy tag. When going for a walk, you need to have a separate bag ;-) Minus for the lack of a kettle in the room (with a sachet of tea and coffee - this is standard in newer hotels) and very poor WiFi transfer. On the other hand, "plus 10" for the breakfast. It changes everything! Absolutely delicious, both for meat eaters and vegetarians. Large choice and tasty. The hotel is close to forests and great Nordic walking, running and cycling paths. Highly recommended, when I'm in the area it will definitely be there.

Highly recommended. Great value for money. The underground parking garage could use a cleaning. Or you can carry your suitcase into the car to avoid getting dirty. Very quiet and great beds. The staff is genuinely friendly. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to use the sauna. But we'll do that next time. The breakfast is, unlike other reviews, VERY GOOD. We stayed at Hotel Tanne Ilmenau for one night during our drive from Krakow to Luxembourg. We arrived quite late, around 23:45, which was well after the official check-in time (22:00). I called ahead, and to their credit, the staff were very helpful and arranged for someone to wait for us — really appreciated their flexibility and kindness. The hotel itself is in an older building, and while the interiors aren’t modern, the room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was also large and well-maintained. There’s no air conditioning, but it was manageable during the summer night. Breakfast was a bit of a letdown — not much variety and the coffee from the machine wasn’t great either. That said, there aren’t many hotels in this area, and based on my research, this one offered decent comfort for the price. Good for a short stopover if you’re passing through the region.

Ilmenau is always worth a trip. The town is stunningly beautiful and well-kept. We were well-accommodated and well-fed at the Hotel Tanne. The attached restaurant, "Belcanto," serves excellent cuisine. We will definitely be back.

All staff were friendly and competent. The lobby had a pleasant atmosphere. Very modern bathrooms. The rooms were only rated 2 stars. The furniture was worn, very scratched, and some were broken. The charm of the early 1970s.

I don't think the price-performance ratio is great. No air conditioning, no refrigerator, and you even have to pay for the bottled water in the room!

I can recommend it, but only for travelers with cars. Parking is scarce for tradespeople with vans.

There's little to complain about here. Clean rooms, nice shower. A hotel like this can't really choose its own location. The Kickelhahn is just a few minutes away by car, so you can quickly get out into nature. The breakfast was plentiful, and although the dinner wasn't a buffet, it was still delicious. One criticism: the mattress! It's far too hard! But for the price, I'd still be happy to come back.

We stayed at the Hotel Tanne for four days as a couple with our dog. The room was clean and attractive, and we had a very nice, modern bathroom. Our room faced the main road, so street noise was unavoidable. Our dog was allowed to come with us for breakfast and dinner. The food was always delicious and plentiful. Unfortunately, the service staff in the restaurant sometimes seemed a bit overwhelmed. But everyone was always very friendly nonetheless. The sauna area didn't appeal to us visually, but we weren't planning a wellness vacation, so it didn't bother us.

Good hotel, in a perfect location in Ilmenau. The city center and the town hall can be easily reached on foot from there. Large spacious underground car park. The rooms are simple but clean. The bathroom is new and modern, with a spacious walk-in shower. The breakfast area is exceptionally spacious, bright - very nice. The breakfast itself is very good for guests who can eat everything. Very nice staff, gluten-free rolls are also freshly baked upon request.

I am very satisfied with my stay in Ilmenau Hotel zur Tanne. The service was excellent, no matter what your wishes were, they were fulfilled. Nothing was missing at breakfast either; all possible wishes were fulfilled here too. The staff was always nice, polite and accommodating. The hotel has very good connections and is centrally located in the city center. Eating in the restaurant is a treat and a pleasure. I'm a regular and will come back.

Probably the most chaotic and inefficient hotel I've ever encountered. Bookings aren't processed on weekends. Email addresses are inconsistent and sometimes out of date. The booking office's promises aren't kept (bookings that are supposed to be confirmed the same day aren't completed for days). You get a different person on the phone every time. The hotel doesn't handle its own bookings, and there seems to be no reliable communication between the hotel and the booking office. I don't understand how they keep things running...

Was in Ilmenau for a week on business and stayed at the Hotel Tanne. Service was very friendly, rooms were spacious, clean and functionally furnished. Breakfast delicious every day. The adjacent restaurant is also highly recommended. Location is good, on the edge of the city center. On foot to the train station about 10 minutes, to the university about 25 minutes

We come to the hotel at the same time every year for personal reasons. But there is always a long wait at reception. The only thing would be to perhaps install a safe in every room. So this would be an advantage these days. Otherwise there is nothing to complain about.

Perfect, the rooms, the rich breakfast selection

Nice room with nice bathroom. Walk-in shower. Large windows. Mattresses not worn out. Large breakfast room and a very good breakfast selection. There are bus and train stops nearby. The hotel is conveniently located on the edge of the pedestrian zone and just a 5-minute walk to the festival hall. The wooden furniture/doors in the room could be sanded and repainted. Otherwise there was nothing to complain about. The front desk, cleaning and service staff were friendly.

To put it bluntly, I've been a regular guest there with the national para-ice hockey team for many years. The staff is always attentive, the food is delicious, and they're happy to accommodate any requests we athletes may have. And if someone brings a dog with them—NO PROBLEM!

We were very pleasantly surprised by the size of our comfort double room. We arrived with our young daughter and two medium-sized dogs. We all had enough space. A crib, toilet seat, and diaper pail were already ready. We ate dinner in the restaurant that evening. Absolutely super friendly service, great food!!! The night was quite noisy because the hotel is right on the street, but we already knew that thanks to Google. The breakfast was simple but sufficient, with something for every taste. We were able to spontaneously extend our stay by one night without any hassle. We would come again.

A very nice hotel... we had the junior suite 317 with a whirlpool, and I must say we haven't often had such a beautiful room. A big thank you to the receptionist who was on late shift that weekend. We felt very warm and welcome. The food was incredibly delicious; we had half board and found the portions very generous.

We had room 317, a junior suite with a whirlpool, a really large room! Unfortunately, the room doesn't have a coherent design; the furniture somehow doesn't match at all, and you just want to rearrange it. We also found the glass door to the bathroom a bit difficult to get used to; you might want a bit of privacy there! The lamps and the desk are really dated and need replacing. The service/staff were really nice, and the breakfast was really good!!! If the room is remodeled, we'll definitely come back.

Very good location, everything is easily accessible on foot - whether it's the city center, the train station or hiking trails. The hotel itself is okay, but nothing more. Key still in the old style with a huge gold pendant, which is not only unwieldy but also heavy. Rooms were a mix of modern and old, but it was ok. Insulation, however, was very poor; when someone flushed, it was almost as if they were in the toilet with me. I heard the knocking from the kitchen myself and was on the 2nd floor. Food was ok for breakfast, nothing exceptional but sufficient. A bit too many “cheap” products for me. Unfortunately, dinner was the opposite; it felt like half-board guests weren't particularly welcome. Service was unfortunately very cold except for the friendly ladies. The food was a shot in the oven, never had such a bad schnitzel. Taste was equated with a lot of garlic, I personally love garlic, but I don't think it's appropriate to put it in every dish in a restaurant.

A moderately good hotel. Certainly okay by Ilmenau standards, but this definitely doesn't feel like the four stars they awarded themselves on Booking.com. In my many business trips, I've never encountered someone charging extra for a bottle of water in the room (and not a small amount at that). The windows are barely soundproof, and the furnishings are in desperate need of an upgrade. The breakfast selection is also rather subpar (again, considering the four stars they awarded themselves). Because the unspeakable wisecracker Chrupalla ("A German poem? I can't think of one right now") was given a platform here, I'm also deducting an extra star.

I would have loved to continue using the sauna here as a guest. Everything is simply perfect, costs €15, including towels and a drink, if it weren't for this unspeakable idea of ​​providing a platform for an undemocratic and clearly right-wing extremist party. But I do have a solution to offer. Register with #thueringenweltoffen, as countless Thuringian companies, associations, private individuals AND hoteliers have already done, and we can think about a shared future 🤔

I actually wanted to sleep here. But then I saw that the AfD is welcomed here and is a welcome guest. So, unfortunately, I had to refrain from doing so due to fears for my safety.

This hotel is on the edge of the downtown area. It's not impossible to walk from the station, but it's a little far. There are train tracks nearby, and a train passed by at around 10 or 11pm on Tuesday nights. There is a supermarket very close by on the other side of the tracks. The room is spacious and comfortable. There is no bathtub, only a shower. There is no step between the bath and the sink, so be careful not to get the room wet. It will cause you trouble. If you want your room cleaned, you insert the card given to you at check-in at the front desk. There are plenty of electrical outlets. They provide 0.75l glass bottles of water for 3 euros, which is very reasonable.

Nice hotel with a good restaurant. I had a burger and it was very good. Everything is accessible with the stroller, has parking in underground garage, elevator... Staff speak multiple languages, service is good, if in Illmenau drop by, would recommend.

The hotel itself is okay; the rooms are clean, the furniture a bit worn but still acceptable. We booked half board, which included breakfast and dinner. The breakfast was okay, not a great value, but sufficient. BUT the dinner was abysmal; the service was awful and unfriendly; the food (the grub) was indefinable, inedible, if not downright disgusting! The chef should try his own grub before serving it to people! All in all, not a hotel we would book again!

Well-equipped, tidy rooms with modern bathrooms!

On the day of arrival, around 5:45 p.m., other guests and I waited probably 10 minutes until someone appeared at reception. It's also not a good idea to hand over the key in the morning. I would be asked to do this by the lady at reception. In the evening I waited again for several minutes because the service employee was busy making a booking. The room is quite dark even with all the lights on. The desk lamp, well, see video...

We were eating, very nice staff, we felt very comfortable

We spent 5 days here on vacation. We booked a family room (two double rooms connected by a door) with half board. It's better to spend the money on the underground parking garage or find a parking space nearby. The staff was friendly, but since there were a few temporary staff there, it was a bit chaotic. If you book half board, you'll be seated in the same room as for breakfast and in the restaurant as if it were an a la carte meal. Some of the corridors (the elevator to the underground parking garage) also have a strange smell. Since our room faced the street, we weren't able to relax, and we left more stressed than when we arrived.

Well, what can you say? Team very nice, friendly and hardworking. Rooms are unusual in style (purple and black slate with dark red accents). 3 bus trips with seniors in the house. This was the mood at the meals and the layout of the buffet. After the many positive reviews, we expected a different experience. If you like bus travel - fine. When I asked whether the bottle of wine in the room was perhaps an invitation to compensate for the bus trip atmosphere, I was only met with a smile. We probably won't come again.

The hotel manager asked us if we'd like to celebrate New Year's Eve there again. Of course, we immediately agreed, as we were there last year and really enjoyed it. The New Year's Eve buffet was recreated four times, but always with new ingredients. The best part was at the end: The kitchen staff walked around with ice cream bombs, just like we remember from the TV show "Das Traumschiff." All the food was very good, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. As long as we can, we'll be happy to spend New Year's Eve there in Ilmenau again and again.

The only thing I didn't like was the instant coffee. You could set up a decent coffee machine with beans there. Otherwise there is nothing to complain about, I would love to come back.

I go there every now and then for work. The hotel is good. Likewise the breakfast and the restaurant. Only the service in the restaurant was unprofessional last time.

We took a little break for ourselves in Thuringia. The hotel is very centrally located and yet quiet. From there you can directly access the nearby hotspots. The hotel is very modern and well furnished. Service, food, staff, rooms all good. Gladly again.

We organized a club outing to this beautiful hotel. We were all very satisfied and can seriously recommend the hotel.

We didn't have a room, we were at a family celebration, the staff is attentive and there are no embarrassing waiting times. The food is mixed, from wonderfully tender deer to dry beef roulades. Overall, the package fits if you stay here as a guest.

One point deducted for location. The hotel is on a large street. With half board you can get a very good buffet. For an additional charge you can also go to the restaurant in the house. It's mega. Young people in love should request room 401.

I was back in the fir tree, for the second time in 4 weeks. The food was again top class, and the location is of course ideal for Ilmenau excursions. Only the service in the restaurant was rather lackluster. Apparently there were young professionals at work there, unfortunately not yet sufficiently experienced in dealing with guests. There wasn't a word of apology for mistakes... But otherwise - always happy
