The price-performance ratio is good. Everything was OK for us. The food in the restaurant was also very good. We would be happy to come back again.

The rooms and bathroom facilities were okay. The location was also good. Breakfast was rather mediocre. The coffee was unfortunately undrinkable.

The hotel is clearly getting old, and money should be spent on a renovation. I was in the restaurant for lunch on the weekend in mid-March...disaster!!!! I was served the worst rump steak of my life there. The kitchen team could take part in further training again...It's annoying that you have to spend too much money on bad food. Simply underground!

The outdoor area is completely covered in confetti, and there's plastic everywhere. This is completely unacceptable.

We had room 317, a junior suite with a whirlpool, a really large room! Unfortunately, the room doesn't have a coherent design; the furniture somehow doesn't match at all, and you want to rearrange it. We also found the glass door to the bathroom a little difficult to get used to; you might want a bit of privacy there! The lamps and the desk are really dated and need replacing. The service/staff were really nice, and the breakfast was really good!!! If the room is remodeled, we'll definitely come back.

Very good location, everything is easily accessible on foot – whether it's the city center, the train station, or the hiking trails. The hotel itself is okay, but nothing more. The key is still in the old-fashioned style with a huge gold pendant, which is not only unwieldy but also heavy. The rooms were a mix of modern and old, but it was okay. The insulation, however, was very poor; when someone flushed, it was almost as if they were using the toilet in my room. I heard the knocking from the kitchen myself, and I was on the second floor. The food was okay for breakfast, nothing extraordinary but sufficient. A bit too many "cheap" products for me. Unfortunately, dinner was the opposite; it felt like half-board guests weren't particularly welcome. Apart from the friendly ladies, the service was unfortunately very sloppy. The food was a mess; I've never eaten such a bad schnitzel. Flavor was equated with lots of garlic. I personally love garlic, but I don't think it's appropriate to put it in every dish in a restaurant.

A moderately good hotel. Certainly okay by Ilmenau standards, but this definitely doesn't feel like the four stars they awarded themselves on Booking.com. In my many business trips, I've never encountered someone charging extra for a bottle of water in the room (and not a small amount at that). The windows are barely soundproof, and the furnishings are in desperate need of an upgrade. The breakfast selection is also rather subpar (again, considering the four stars they awarded themselves). Because the unspeakable wisecracker Chrupalla ("A German poem? I can't think of one right now") was given a platform here, I'm also deducting an extra star.

I would have loved to continue using the sauna here as a guest. Everything is simply perfect, costs €15, including towels and a drink, if it weren't for this unspeakable idea of ​​providing a platform for an undemocratic and clearly right-wing extremist party. But I do have a solution to offer. Register with #thueringenweltoffen, as countless Thuringian companies, associations, private individuals AND hoteliers have already done, and we can think about a shared future 🤔

I actually wanted to sleep here. But then I saw that the AfD is welcomed here and is a welcome guest. So, unfortunately, I had to refrain from doing so due to fears for my safety.

This hotel is on the edge of the downtown area. It's not impossible to walk from the station, but it's a little far. There are train tracks nearby, and a train passed by at around 10 or 11pm on Tuesday nights. There is a supermarket very close by on the other side of the tracks. The room is spacious and comfortable. There is no bathtub, only a shower. There is no step between the bath and the sink, so be careful not to get the room wet. It will cause you trouble. If you want your room cleaned, you insert the card given to you at check-in at the front desk. There are plenty of electrical outlets. They provide 0.75l glass bottles of water for 3 euros, which is very reasonable.

Nice hotel with a good restaurant. I had a burger and it was very good. Everything is accessible with the stroller, has parking in underground garage, elevator... Staff speak multiple languages, service is good, if in Illmenau drop by, would recommend.

The hotel itself is okay; the rooms are clean, the furniture a bit worn but still acceptable. We booked half board, which included breakfast and dinner. The breakfast was okay, not a great value, but sufficient. BUT the dinner was abysmal; the service was awful and unfriendly; the food (the grub) was indefinable, inedible, if not downright disgusting! The chef should try his own grub before serving it to people! All in all, not a hotel we would book again!

On the day of arrival, around 5:45 p.m., other guests and I waited probably 10 minutes until someone appeared at reception. It's also not a good idea to hand over the key in the morning. I would be asked to do this by the lady at reception. In the evening I waited again for several minutes because the service employee was busy making a booking. The room is quite dark even with all the lights on. The desk lamp, well, see video...

We were eating, very nice staff, we felt very comfortable

We spent 5 days here on vacation. We booked a family room (two double rooms connected by a door) with half board. It's better to spend the money on the underground parking garage or find a parking space nearby. The staff was friendly, but since there were a few temporary staff there, it was a bit chaotic. If you book half board, you'll be seated in the same room as for breakfast and in the restaurant as if it were an a la carte meal. Some of the corridors (the elevator to the underground parking garage) also have a strange smell. Since our room faced the street, we weren't able to relax, and we left more stressed than when we arrived.

Well, what can you say? Team very nice, friendly and hardworking. Rooms are unusual in style (purple and black slate with dark red accents). 3 bus trips with seniors in the house. This was the mood at the meals and the layout of the buffet. After the many positive reviews, we expected a different experience. If you like bus travel - fine. When I asked whether the bottle of wine in the room was perhaps an invitation to compensate for the bus trip atmosphere, I was only met with a smile. We probably won't come again.

The hotel manager asked us if we'd like to celebrate New Year's Eve there again. Of course, we immediately agreed, as we were there last year and really enjoyed it. The New Year's Eve buffet was recreated four times, but always with new ingredients. The best part was at the end: The kitchen staff walked around with ice cream bombs, just like we remember from the TV show "Das Traumschiff." All the food was very good, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. As long as we can, we'll be happy to spend New Year's Eve there in Ilmenau again and again.

The hotel and the rooms are very comfortable and up to date. It is centrally located and you can reach everything you need on foot. The breakfast is rich and there is something for everyone. The only thing I didn't like was the instant coffee. You could set up a decent coffee machine with beans there. Otherwise there is nothing to complain about, I would love to come back.

We took a little break for ourselves in Thuringia. The hotel is very centrally located and yet quiet. From there you can directly access the nearby hotspots. The hotel is very modern and well furnished. Service, food, staff, rooms all good. Gladly again.

We didn't have a room, we were at a family celebration, the staff is attentive and there are no embarrassing waiting times. The food is mixed, from wonderfully tender deer to dry beef roulades. Overall, the package fits if you stay here as a guest.

I was back in the fir tree, for the second time in 4 weeks. The food was again top class, and the location is of course ideal for Ilmenau excursions. Only the service in the restaurant was rather lackluster. Apparently there were young professionals at work there, unfortunately not yet sufficiently experienced in dealing with guests. There wasn't a word of apology for mistakes... But otherwise - always happy

The hotel is ideally located for discovering the city, but also for starting hikes. Employees are friendly, attentive and helpful. The rooms are clean, the comfort room is very pleasant. The sauna on the first floor is okay. There is also a panoramic sauna on the upper floor, which we didn't try out. Breakfast price/performance very good. Underground parking available and sufficiently large, price currently €9.80 per day.

Unfortunately there are no smoke detectors in the rooms, so only a 3 for the rooms. Otherwise everything was great.

Actually a good hotel in a central location, which also has an underground car park. The rooms are modernly furnished, there is no safe or minibar. The service didn't convince me for a hotel that wants to meet certain standards. The room wasn't made, and the breakfast plates weren't cleared away either, so you had to stack them. The breakfast buffet already had large gaps an hour before closing. The in-house restaurant Bel Canto is highly recommended. Very friendly service, delicious food in a nice atmosphere.

We spent 2 nights in room 310. The room is large and clean and has enough storage space. The mattresses are good. However, I find carpeting in hotel rooms problematic for hygiene reasons, which I saw confirmed by several stains. I missed a room safe, which should be standard. A minibar would have been good too, but it was also missing. The bathroom is very modern, but not lit enough. Applying make-up at what feels like 5 watts is difficult. It was very annoying that there was no room service.

The hotel is perfectly located on the outskirts of the city. We were quickly in the countryside (forest, city park) and yet very close to the pedestrian zone. There was free parking for my bike with trailer. Many guests have seen the rooms, but a few quirks don't bother me. The bathroom is modern and well renovated. The sauna areas were very comfortable. The cleanliness is sufficient for simple requirements. The staff was always nice, very accommodating and the food was wonderful. The area is fantastic, a hiking paradise and everything was thought of for my dog. The price is completely okay, we would like to come back.

We were there from August 23rd. We were there until 8/25/24 and were very enthusiastic about the hotel. A family member is dependent on a wheelchair, which was not a problem here at all. The staff was also very good at improvising!

With half board only 2nd class guests - I had booked the “Enjoyment Days” package and was looking forward to 3 relaxing days in a beautiful atmosphere. At least as far as dinner was concerned, nothing came of it. Because of the half board that came with the arrangement, I wasn't allowed to eat in the actual restaurant, but had to eat in a stuffy, hot side room where I then sat alone with my son. For me that no longer had anything to do with enjoyment. After I asked the hotel staff, they explained to me that the restaurant was reserved for à la menu guests. I was very upset about this because I didn't know about this rule when I booked. And I still think it's wrong. Either I make an offer in the form of an arrangement or I leave it as a hotel. But in my opinion it's not possible to "punish" the guest with a bad place to eat for choosing an offer. I have never experienced anything like this, even though I haven't booked something like this often, and it will definitely influence my booking behavior if I go to Ilmenau again. Even if everything else was fine and, above all, the staff was very committed, I would first see what alternatives there are. Too bad!

The hotel was nice, the rooms were clean, but they probably didn't clean it every day. And if you look closer, you can see that there were already a few people there, the door frames and doors could use some paint. The underground car park is good, you should be careful if you fall in, 2 meters of clearance is not much.

Visit the restaurant! I can't agree with many of the reviews I've read here at all. The service is great, the food is fantastic. Even if one were to look for errors, for me there are none. The “waiters” are on the ball, always friendly and accommodating. Anyone who complains here is really complaining at a very high level. We'd love to come back!!!

Hotel is ok, but nothing more. Restaurant and bar are very nice. Jacuzzi in our room was broken. Breakfast unfortunately not worth 4 stars, nothing special.

I can highly recommend the Bel Canto restaurant. It's very nice to sit inside. There were also tables outside on the terrace. Great furnished. The service is super friendly. Great selection of dishes. The trout, liver and roulade tasted very, very tasty and were prepared with fresh ingredients and beautifully presented. If we are here again we will definitely eat here again.

Ilmenau is located in the heart of the Thuringian Forest and a few km away, among other things. from the cities of Eisenach; Erfurt, Jena and much more.

centrally located in Ilmenau, parking in the hotel garage for a fee, spacious room, clean bathroom, receptionist didn't tell me the room number when I checked in or how to get there. In the morning the elevators were out of order, which resulted in an adventurous walk until I found the stairs down. All in all ok with room for improvement in customer service and direction for customers

The central location of the hotel is a big plus, as everything you should see in Ilmenau can be reached on foot from there. The rooms and hallways are equipped with carpets, so there are plenty of traces of previous guests! The exhaust system in the cabin bathroom is not sufficient and the hairdryer is past its prime... Unfortunately, the sauna facility on the first floor is in a dilapidated condition and urgently needs cosmetic work and repairs! On the whole, the breakfast is sufficient, varied and balanced. I just can't recommend the taste of coffee and scrambled eggs. For me personally, there will be no more hotel visits because there is no balance between price and performance for me...

A great hotel with really good value for money. The staff is nice and happy to fulfill your wishes, everything is very, very clean and the food in the restaurant is great, which is also noticeable in the influx of visitors. I had half board and was very satisfied with the 3-course menu in the evening. There are funny sayings on the walls everywhere and I was particularly impressed by the original hotel bill from 1938 on the wall in the restaurant/bar. The hotel is not exactly small, but due to the way it is constructed it is not a block and it is very quiet in the hotel (textile floor). A room facing the street is not so nice as you get woken up very early in the morning, but the windows keep a lot of that out. The only point of criticism is the WiFi, as it is completely unsecured and is not really very strong. I quickly got access to a free VPN for work. The bed/mattress in room 221 was extremely hard - they couldn't have done me a greater favor. But if you are used to and want a soft lager, you should perhaps ask beforehand. Breakfast is okay - apart from fish, everything is there. However, the coffee doesn't work at all. In any case, it is an instant product because water ends up running into the cup. This is simply inedible. My espresso in the evening in the restaurant was worlds better.

Rooms have carpeted floors which is no longer so modern. Bathrooms are nice with walk-in rain showers. Closet and TV. Safe not available. Staff is nice, breakfast unfortunately wasn't my thing. I didn't like the coffee and the rolls were a bit dry.

Hotel is located on a busy roundabout, but still quiet at night. You drive directly into the well-arranged underground car park and go through the door with the elevator directly to the reception. Friendly lady, quick check-in, advance payment. Room and bathroom completely ok. Breakfast rich and clear, nice modern breakfast room. Conclusion: nice hotel, also ok in terms of price. We went there spontaneously last night for dinner with three people. We sat outside. Even the greeting from the waiter was rather annoyed. My question about where we could sit was dismissed with a shrug and a wave of the hand. Throughout the evening I felt like I was in a snack bar rather than a restaurant. We were treated very condescendingly and were always addressed on a first-name basis. It wasn't like there was much to do, there were a maximum of 4 tables each occupied by 2-4 people. The food wasn't very warm and was ok but nothing special. The schnitzel was very small. Outside at one of the tables towards the entrance (you had to pass there if you wanted to go to the toilet) was apparently also the meeting point for the employees, at times up to 8 employees stood/sat there and smoked, drank and also talked loudly. I understand that the staff situation in the catering industry is also tense, but the restaurant was not overcrowded yesterday and every paying guest deserves to be treated appropriately.

Went here with friends 3 weeks ago. For the second and last time. I can only advise everyone to never book directly through this hotel. We paid 51 euros per night (!) more than friends through Booking. Room wasn't cleaned. None of us were informed that this only happens through an order in the form of a completed card. We didn't receive a corresponding card either. Breakfast was total disorganized chaos. Apparently the only coffee machine was broken. Unfortunately there was no plan...

Location and service weren't important to me, but the bed was. Just a very rough sheet, modest mattress and uncomfortable pillows. The room was otherwise comfortable and the bathroom was great. Depending on the room, you live directly on the street, if that bothers you. Not a lot of traffic but then basically in the bedroom. Internet just about usable, but not up to date.

Rooms are ok, but small! Damage to doors or walls. Cleaning bad hair only roughly cleaned. (fold the bed, only roughly clean the bathroom) Breakfast is standard, there were stains on the bed linen, the water bottle was drunk and there were used glasses in the room, the room probably wasn't cleaned at all ......I complained about all of this, but customers are not taken seriously, and that in a four star hotel...well... Ambience and staff very nice :)

Great!!! There is really excellent service here. I would like to specifically praise the nice lady in the breakfast room, who really makes all wishes possible! We had a completely successful stay, in great rooms, with a delicious breakfast and in the evening the restaurant is more than worth a visit! We'll definitely be back!

My expectations were exceeded in all respects. Great big room, brilliant bed, quiet. Very good dinner, gigantic breakfast buffet. Very nice staff.

In itself it was okay, the room was good except for the mattress, which was very hard. Good and rich breakfast. But at dinner I felt slightly ripped off. We had booked half board, then we were told that because of the number of guests with half board there would be a buffet, so far so good. Only the food wasn't even really warm and there wasn't much choice, for example there wasn't even a sauce for the potatoes/rice, which I think is poor. We paid about 70/80€ more for 2T because we have HP and then you get something like that. If you wanted you could also order something from the card, but you would have to pay for it yourself, it will not be offset against your half board. We asked how many guests there would be at the buffet and we were told from around 20 people. The hotel has 4 floors with around 34 rooms each and for groups of 20 or more there is only a buffet, which sounds like cost-cutting measures to me. I would not book half board at this hotel. The staff was friendly.

Fabulous breakfast was in the description, it was ok but nothing more. Both types of coffee were undrinkable. For €155 a night you can expect more in a small town like Ilmenau. If we had booked half board, we wouldn't do it again, we would rather try out the restaurants nearby. The room was partly modernized and nice, the bathroom was very modern. Staff friendly or short, depending on the situation.

All in all a lovely few days at the hotel. Some renovation work on the inventory is necessary. The sauna area must also be cleaned regularly. Otherwise, we fully agree with the positive reviews. We'll come back soon.

In itself a very nice establishment with a good view. However, it's not very polite when I ask a waitress if they still have a table available and ignore me in the middle of a sentence, don't answer me and then walk away. Then that's a disgrace.

Probably the best hotel in Ilmenau. Very friendly staff. The rooms are spacious with good bathrooms. Mattress was a bit sagging. There is nothing to complain about at the breakfast buffet. Perhaps the radio station could be changed (RTL morning radio doesn't work at all), or at least the volume could be reduced. Wine in the attached restaurant was very good. We will come back. Sometime in August. I'm sure my wife has already booked.

We can't say anything other than that we were completely happy and everything was just great. The room was great, the service was great and small special requests were implemented straight away. We found out about the hotel by chance and are happy to have spent our stay there. It definitely won't be our last visit either. Please keep it up

I was at the Hotel Tanne Ilmenau with a small group on business. I will divide this review into two areas - namely the pure hotel and restaurant area and also the event area. To the hotel: Beautiful and well-kept rooms with a comfortable bed and a really comfortable mattress. The size was absolutely sufficient for me personally. The breakfast left nothing to be desired. A solid buffet with no frills. The dinner was excellent and really very well prepared. Park: There is an underground car park where you could easily find a parking space even with an SUV. Direct access to the hotel possible through the underground car park. Service: Communicative and committed staff! If I were traveling privately and looking for a hotel that was right for me and had a solid kitchen, I would book the Hotel Tanne in Ilmenau without any complaints. However, since I spent more time in the seminar room than in the room - and my focus was therefore on business, I unfortunately have to slightly adjust the positive overall impression mentioned so far. The entire seminar organization didn't seem to have been really planned out by the hotel. Unfortunately, it felt like we had to ask about the actual standard seminar utensils for our room piece by piece. For example, there was a completely dirty cable drum on the seminar tables that seemed to have come fresh from a construction site. We then preferred to use our own. The Metaplan wall was also just junk and a real disgrace. I definitely expect more from a “seminar hotel” - that’s why I deducted a star here.

When we come to Ilmenau we spend the night in the fir tree. 😀👍 You can't go wrong here. The staff is top and so is the service. The restaurant is always cozy and the food was, as always, very good. 👍😀🍺

A conference hotel with chic, but overpriced. The Thuringian Forest has seen better times: not only the forest, but also the quality and service leave much to be desired. Our check-in conversation was correspondingly short: no information about the room, the hotel's offerings or the time and place for breakfast. Sure, pay first. Then find out that you have to carry your suitcases across the house three times because of the wrong allocation. At the welcome drink in the restaurant we were spoken to one last time for the rest of the weekend. The staff shortage is noticeable. Everything is forgivable, but for 130/night I expect more attention. I deduct at least one star, especially for breakfast! No class, just quantity. And the "coffee" - help!

We come to Ilmenau 2-3 times a year and stay overnight in Der Tanne. Rooms are always immaculate. The service in the restaurant (especially from the men;-)) is tip top. Unfortunately, after the change of ownership, the food is no longer 100% good, but it is still the best food/offer in Ilmenau. Breakfast offering can be expanded. The breakfast times could be an hour longer = until 11 a.m. One more thing, if you book a room and express certain wishes, these should be implemented (e.g. special room number or extra bed), not just upon arrival. All in all, we really like staying at the fir tree and would recommend it to everyone.

Tja , also sehr gern würde ich eine gute Bewertung da lassen , allerdings bin ich noch nicht mal auf mein gebuchtes und bestätigtes Zimmer gekommen. Gebucht war die Suite mit Whirlpool , allerdings war das Zimmer schon weg 👎ich habe nach der Buchung (online) extra nochmal telefonisch gefragt ob jetzt alles ok sei , darauf hin antwortete ein Herr mit ja es geht alles seinen Gang , Leute ich hatte eine Anreise von 200 km und dann ist mein gebuchtes und bestätigtes Zimmer nicht da ? Ich würde mal stark über einen Wechsel der Angestellten nachdenken !! Vorallem die Träne an der Rezeption , mit den locken , als uns das erste falsche Zimmer angeboten wurde , was wir verständlicher Weise nicht wollten , weil keine Suite , habe ich extra noch gefragt , aber da ist das Zimmer ? Antwort ja ist da ! Es wurden uns zwei Kaffee angeboten , ( die nicht schmeckten ) und nach 20 Minuten schickte die Locke eine andere Angestellte vor um uns zu Beichten das das Zimmer vermietet sei ! Dann wurde uns vorgeschlagen , eine Nacht in einem andern Zimmer zu bleiben und dann morgen in die Whirlpool Suite , aber diese war auch nicht die die wir gebucht hatten sondern eine andere 👎👎Ganz klar Fehler können passieren , aber bei einer fahrt von insegesamt 400km kann man eine Entschädigung veranlassen ! Weil Benzin wächst nicht auf den Bäumen ! Aber nichts der gleichen , und da ich schon einmal eine Rezession verfasse , kommen wir zu den Parkmöglichkeiten , die das allerletzte sind , Tiefgarage ist ja nicht schlecht , aber pro Nacht 9€ und für Gäste die nur ins Restaurant gehen , ist es kostenfrei ?? Sehr schönes sauberes Hotel in dem auch mein Hund willkommen war!!Personal super freundlich und hilfsbereit.Frühstücksbuffet läßt keine Wünsche offen ! Hotel empfehlenswert gern wieder!!

Gute Lage central guter Service Zimmer okay Essen sowohl auch Frühstück top sehr zu empfehlen.

Leider ist der Service sehr schlecht, da der Check-in leider auf sich hat warten lassen. Teilweise waren im Zimmer auf den sanitären Anlagen Haare zu finden.

Alles in allem hatten wir eine gute Zeit hier. Das Zimmer war schön und groß, jedoch hätte unser Bad definitiv noch sauberer sein können. Das gilt leider für viele Stellen im Hotel. Das Frühstück war okay (wobei es nicht mehr zeitgemäß ist seine Speisen, wie Käse und Wurst ungekühlt und ohne Spritzschutz anzubieten). Frühstücksraum, sowie dessen Tische traurig - zum Teil kaputt und voller Tesastreifen (?!). Außerdem war die Atmosphäre für ein entspanntes Frühstück nicht gegeben, da um uns herum lautstark aufgeräumt wurde, obwohl das Frühstück offiziell noch 45 Minuten ging. Echt schade, weil das hauseigene Restaurant super schön hergerichtet ist und wir lieber dort gefrühstückt hätten, als in einer Tagungshalle. Das Personal war mehr als lieb und hat einen super Job gemacht :-)

Bei Besuch in Ilmenau immer mal wieder hier, da das Essen super und sehr zu empfehlen ist. Leider kann der Service hier nicht ganz mithalten. Selten solange auf einen Nachtisch (wir reden hier von einer Kugel Eis) gewartet. Bei Nachfragen darf man dann extra lange auf alles weitere warten.
