We visited here as a family for the first time today and booked a table on the spur of the moment. We received a very warm welcome upon arrival. The service was friendly, attentive, yet pleasantly unobtrusive. The food was truly outstanding – fresh, delicious, and lovingly prepared. Our children also felt completely at home. You can immediately tell that the work here is done with passion – from the kitchen team to the service staff. The cozy ambiance and relaxed atmosphere made the evening perfect. We would definitely come back and highly recommend the restaurant!

We ate at the restaurant for the last two days. It's rare to find such delicious food. Everything is homemade, and you can taste it. And the portions are also very generous. The service is really great. If the restaurant is full, you just wait a while in the beer garden, and the manager will call you in when there's space again. On the second day, we decided to reserve a table instead. It's amazing how many guests they serve in those five hours. We'll be back!!!!

Arriving from the cold and rain, the restaurant immediately felt cozy. Although almost completely full, we quickly found a seat for two. We received very attentive and warm service. And the food was delicious and reasonably priced. In short, we felt very comfortable. Thank you very much!

Delicious home-cooked food with a Czech touch!

We had a wonderful meal there last night, following a friendly invitation, first in the entrance. I opted for the cured tongue in horseradish sauce and ordered dumplings instead of potatoes. Of course, it was no problem at all; it was heavenly, the meat was very tender, and it came with the best horseradish sauce in town. Thank you for the wonderful evening, as the service was also very attentive and completely relaxed. A very good tip in Bad Schandau 👌👌👌

I really liked the ambiance. The staff were a bit annoyed on the phone; they gave the impression there weren't any seats left, but we were allowed to come in. It turned out that most of the people who came after us didn't have reservations, and they got seats, too. The food was OK, but given the decor and the prices, I was expecting a bit better service; the roulade wasn't really tender enough. And the music didn't fit the ambiance either. Of course, it's a matter of taste, but I wasn't looking for more sophisticated food. I'd go somewhere else for the same price and pay the same or a bit more for better quality.

The restaurant completely surprised me! As soon as I entered, I was struck by a pleasant atmosphere – a modern interior combined with coziness, where you immediately feel good. The service was very nice, smiling and willing to help with the choice. The food? An absolute experience! Each course was beautifully presented and perfectly balanced in taste. The portions were just right, so you leave satisfied and not full. I also appreciate the quality selection of wines and other drinks. Overall, a great establishment, where I would definitely like to return – whether for a romantic dinner or just to sit with friends.

Highly recommended. We arrived, got a table right away, and were given the menu to order from. The food was absolutely fantastic...truly delicious. I had the venison ragout with chanterelle mushrooms, red cabbage, and potato dumplings. My wife had the pork loin steak ou four with spiced meat and baked with cheese, served with croquettes. Both are highly recommended, and the portion sizes are perfectly adequate. The service was friendly and, above all, there were no long waits; everyone was very friendly and accommodating. We sat outside, and despite the rain, everyone was in a good mood. We've definitely decided that the next time we're here, we'll definitely go back to Franz.

The food was wonderfully delicious, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating! We arrived spontaneously without a reservation and were immediately seated outside for two. A little more space and greenery wouldn't have hurt the ambiance, but it's more than enough for a cozy dinner!

This establishment drew us in with its energy, the nicely lit passage invited us to look at the seated guests, enjoying the atmosphere and good beer. The food is excellent, with unique combinations of flavors, plenty of sauce and great service. Just take half a day off after that portion to digest. Excellent, beautiful, pleasant, we recommend!

Personally, I found the portions to be small. The Dresden Sauerbraten came in two very thin slices and with two small dumplings. The side salad was nothing special and unloving. The staff wasn't particularly friendly when we had questions. I wouldn't go here again.

We received a very warm welcome and immediately felt at home. The rump steak was cooked to perfection, and the other dishes at the table also left us with great satisfaction. The food arrived very quickly, and the service was extremely friendly and efficient. The ambiance was optimized to the best of the available space :) The only improvement we could think of would be pencils and something to color in for the kids, but given the short wait, that might not be necessary.

Amazing food at a very reasonable price. We were lucky to get a table, although we only called around 3-4pm on the day itself. Hence, do book in advance to avoid disappointment. The kitchen and front of the house service crew try their very best to make sure everyone is being served timely and get sufficient attention. So do bring along some patience.

Every dish tastes like it came straight from grandma's kitchen – hearty, aromatic, and full of flavor. The portions are generous, so everyone will be satisfied, and the quality of the ingredients is excellent. The service is also top-notch – attentive, warm, and always with a smile. The restaurant "Zum Franz" seems to be very popular. Based on the many positive reviews, we decided to try it out. I recommend making a reservation by phone in advance. We really liked the service. All the staff are not only friendly but also very attentive. The ambiance: It's clean, and there are pictures of the region on the walls. Food: The food is delicious! Our food arrived quickly. However, the portion sizes vary greatly. Some dishes were generous and would have left you feeling full. However, we could have easily eaten two plates of our food. The sauces for some dishes could have been more original and were reminiscent of ready-made sauces. We would definitely come back, but we would choose different dishes.

The goulash was excellent. Kudos to the chef! We only waited 15 minutes, so it was super quick! The wine was also excellent.

The best food during a few days in Saxony. The cuisine is correct, but not outstanding (if you can talk about outstanding cuisine in this price range). But nothing would have happened if the chef had surprised. Generally, a well-deserved 3.7 that would have indicated a 4.

We spontaneously decided on Franz. Since we were out and about in Bad Schandau and the surrounding area, we arrived right at 5:00 PM. And that was a good thing, because after about 20 minutes, the small beer garden in the courtyard was already packed with customers. We ate goulash with red cabbage and Bohemian dumplings there, something we'd been craving for a while. And it was incredibly delicious... Franz is highly recommended! And the service is also excellent and very friendly!

I got a table for four on Friday evening without a reservation. Very friendly service, great food (goulash and schnitzel), child-friendly, and specially adapted children's dishes in a great size.

Canned mushrooms.... Visited here because of the good reviews. Overall, it was OK, but unfortunately not up to the high rating. We had two schnitzels, one with fries and creamed mushrooms, and the other with asparagus and potatoes. I ordered the fries extra crispy, which didn't work out. They were limp and greasy. My schnitzel, however, had been in the pan too long on one side and came out very dark. On top of that, they served mushrooms from a jar or can. I couldn't understand that. 🤷 The hollandaise sauce was probably also from a packet, which wasn't up to scratch either and had a strange taste. Our visit wasn't bad, but I really expected better, based on the presentation and the reviews. The service was friendly and attentive. The radio in the kitchen also plays music for the guests in the courtyard.

We spontaneously dropped in on a Thursday evening. Even at 8:30 p.m., it was still packed, but the atmosphere in the restaurant was noticeably good and cheerful. We managed to get a table and were served promptly. The wine recommendation wasn't quite our favorite, but that's obviously a personal preference. We didn't get a chance to try it beforehand, though. The food we ordered arrived quickly and was very tasty. The portions were large enough to fill us up, but not too full. So we also treated ourselves to one of the warm apple strudels. Very delicious! We really liked it and can definitely recommend "zum Franz"!

Das Restaurant ist steril und einfach eingerichtet. Es gibt nur wenige Sitzplätze. Somit war das Restaurant bei unserem Besuch voll belegt. Die Karte ist durch einfache und bürgerliche Gerichte geprägt. Im Wesentlichen Schnitzel und Schnitzel. Für ein Schnitzel bezahlt man 23€. Für die einfache Ausführung also sehr teuer. Der von mir probierte Riesling ist unterirdisch. Insgesamt eine Enttäuschung, aber noch gerade so ok.

The food was very tasty, the portions were huge, too big for me. Quite expensive in terms of price. Local dishes so you can try German cuisine from this region. The waiter only knows German, but with the help of a translator you can communicate.

I was there on 2 different weeks and wasn't disappointed both times. Everything is prepared in-house and not bought ready-made. I attribute this to the fact that the apple strudel was literally smoking with freshness. There is also some music playing in the background at a very pleasant volume. I would go there every time 👍

Saxon Switzerland is not exactly the mecca for vegan/vegetarian nutrition. It's all the more pleasing that the "Franz" looks beyond meat-free dishes and serves an excellent vegan "Szegedin goulash" with dumplings, which is a very enjoyable, different interpretation of Eastern European cuisine. There is also a top selection of beer and wine. 👍

We wanted to eat at Franz's, so we called at 6 p.m. to politely ask for a table for two people. Patzig replied: "So we can't make reservations anymore, come by and see if there's anything available." I didn't understand why that wasn't possible anymore, but okay, I wanted the salad and then we went straight there. There were still 2 tables available there (!) but when I asked for a table for 2 people I immediately shook my head: "No, not at the moment" I felt very crazy then. Why couldn't you say in a friendly manner on the phone that all the tables were reserved? That would have been friendly and I could have saved myself the journey. It's a shame, given the very good reviews so far, I also expect good service. I also have to criticize sometimes.

We ate here with our 2 children on April 9th, 2025. Around 7 p.m. and all the other restaurants in Bad Schandau were full… luckily! Otherwise we would probably have walked past “zum Franz”. We were greeted very friendly and given a table. The children had schnitzel and cheese spaetzle. A senior portion was kindly offered as it might be too much for children. Both were very satisfied! My wife and I had steak with seasoned meat and cheese gratinated and the knuckle. We both enjoyed it very much! The knuckle had a lot of bone and a nice crispy crust. To say goodbye, our children received lollipops in the shape of a pipe. Of course we tried them out straight away, which immediately put a smile on the woman who served us❤️! We were in Bad Schandau for the Nicolaus weekend and were looking for a place to eat, but almost everywhere the kitchen was already closed, then we found the Restaurant Zum Franz there's still so much going on. When we went in there was still a table free so we were allowed to sit down. The staff was super friendly and the food was first class. I haven't had such a delicious sauerbraten in a long time. Great, keep it up.

Very nice atmosphere. Great music. Nice service. The room was already bright. The Dresden Sauerbraten was excellent. You could mash the meat with your tongue. There was a lot of sauce. Small plus point, the wardrobe. You'll definitely find your jacket again. ;-)
