We stopped in briefly for hot drinks. Unfortunately, the cappuccino wasn't very good and came from a cheap machine – I can make better at home. Otherwise, I found the place very cluttered with all sorts of different decorative items that didn't really go together.

This restaurant is a must-see! The decor is truly interesting. The menu is varied, but a bit pricey.

Everything was wonderful! A very nice restaurant with a great interior, friendly service, and delicious food. We'll definitely be back!

Loved the food and wine! The interiors are super unique, with lots of cool pieces inspired by the river, the wine region, and local specialties. Got to chat with the owner. Really nice, down-to-earth person. Love what he’s created:)

We were only there briefly to pass the time while we waited for the ship. It's certainly eye-catching, both inside and out. I can't comment on the food; we only had drinks. I thought it was a shame that card payments only accepted orders of €20 or more. A notice outside or on the menu would have been nice, so we would have known beforehand. I also didn't like the comment, "Especially not for two coffees!" You can pay for two coffees with a card anywhere. But that's okay. My husband hadn't finished his coffee yet when they were about to clear it away and bring the bill straight away. If the dining room had been full, I would have understood that two people couldn't hold up a table for coffee indefinitely, but that wasn't the case. My husband then went to the bank, got some money, and we left.

The restaurant is nice and the staff is friendly. But the food is completely convenience food and far too expensive. It's a shame. With homemade dishes, everything would have real potential.

The ambiance is an experience, but the food is substandard. Frozen food from the hairdresser and instant food from the bucket, poor quality, poorly presented, and sold at an overpriced price...it's quite interesting to stop for a glass of wine or something similar, but the food is a disgrace.

The restaurant is beautifully decorated. The service was pleasant; we stopped there for a short break. We can't rate the food on offer because we didn't eat anything.

That was so promising interior and so low quality of cuisine.:( The breading on the schnitzel seemed to be expired, piece of bread for the soup was not fresh, the serviette with stains from previous guests. I would recommend to pay more attention to the quality of food.

unfriendly service, very high prices, and horrible food are undeniable characteristics of this place. it is a TOURIST TRAP! this is how the interior design looks like, which is a subjective topic, for me it's very ugly, but some might like it.

Unfortunately, I have to give this one point, otherwise I wouldn't be able to rate it. My actual rating is negative. I can only advise against eating here. The price-performance ratio is completely out of this world. The inedible side salad that I unwisely ordered cost €7.50 alone!!!!!! (A bit of green salad, dried-out carrots, and a few slices of tomatoes; the marinade tasted like old Maggi). Unbelievable!!! All the other meals in our group weren't worth the price either. Expensive drinks were served from discount bottles.

We were there on July 29, 2024, with a group of six people and asked for two of the four-person tables to be put together. This was obviously not possible, and was met with comments from the staff in the background (certainly not intended for our ears), literally "they must have been in the sun too long." Furthermore, the service was not particularly friendly, which contributes to the overall impression of this place. The food and drinks are completely overpriced. The price-performance ratio is absolutely not right here. The only thing is, the decor is impressive. My recommendation: Take a close look at the decor and eat in the neighborhood.

We were passing through and first just stopped for a cappuccino. The bathroom break afterward was the absolute highlight. It sounds strange at first, but the ambiance is amazing. Overflowing with kitschy decor, yet cozy. You can't stop staring. We'll be back again when we have more time!

We had dinner with five people yesterday. The food was delicious and the service was very friendly.

What an amazing restaurant, a visual treat, you don't know where to look. So many amazing items to see, everywhere... Even in the toilet! The food was presented well and delivered quickly, nothing outstanding but present to taste the traditional fayre for the local area. Well worth a visit. The wine tasting is good, lots of information shared around the wine and where/when the grapes are collected. Definitely make this a stop if your passing by.

This restaurant was on the Rhine Valley/River Tour here in Germany. The interior was UNIQUE , so was the exterior! I had the Pork Schnitzel 😋 Wine tasting after our cruise.🍷 I live in Tucson Az 🌵 and I will have fond memories of this restaurant 😍

The decor was interesting, the food was very cheap and unloved. The €29 rump steak was full of onion mush instead of fried onions, and the pasta with tomato sauce was extremely unloved: overcooked, unseasoned, and the sauce felt like it came from a can.

Absolutely terrible food at outrageous prices. This rubbish, there's no other way to describe it, should have been returned immediately. It can be clearly stated that none of us enjoyed the food at all. To then charge an average of €22 per person is not only outrageous, it's absolutely outrageous! The only advice we can give everyone here is: Move on and find another restaurant.

We'd love to give it a negative rating. The salad had brown spots and was soggy with dressing. The schnitzel was from the freezer and then in the deep fryer. The mushrooms were from a can, and the sauce was from a bucket. It's a disgrace that you have to pay €18 for this. The schnitzel was topped with chemical cheese from the supermarket. Bottomless!

A very exciting restaurant, completely different from what you're used to. It was obviously decorated with a lot of love, and there's a lot to discover. The food was also good, and the service was very attentive, polite, and friendly: my needs were always taken care of. In such a prime location (right on the Rhine), it's a truly down-to-earth restaurant that I'd be happy to recommend! I'll definitely stop here again on my next trip!

A LOT OF Frills in the dining room. It made it easy to pass the time while waiting for the food. The service was friendly. The food, okay. The smoked pork ribs were served with croquettes (absolutely unacceptable) and sauerkraut. All the dishes, including salads, lacked flair. We wouldn't go to this restaurant again.

I came here with my family for a glass of wine and to admire the place. The service was friendly, we enjoyed the wine, and the other customers all seemed cheerful and exuberant. The prices are reasonable for today's times, and experiencing this playful, cheeky, dreamy atmosphere is definitely worth a visit.

It is one of the most beautiful restaurants in the world. I have seen some bad reviews. Nothing like their description. Prices are as normal as any other restaurants in the area, but the interior of the place is amazing. Some are saying they are too overdecorated. I believe that makes the place really special.

We had to wait a bit longer for our drinks, but the friendly waitresses were also busy. We didn't eat, but that was only because our ship was arriving very soon. The ambiance is uniquely "kitschy." It's a must-see. A trip to the bathroom becomes an "experience" 😁🤭

The search for a small snack and a drink to pass the time while we waited for our ship led us to the Zum Anker restaurant. The main reason was the fact that we noticed how friendly the group of guests who had just gotten up was being bid farewell. After our experience a few meters further on, it was a welcome change. The service was prompt and always exceptionally friendly. We ordered three drinks, a plate of fries for the junior, and two apple strudels. The apple strudel was beautifully presented and tasted impeccable. A particular highlight is the interior design, which is astonishing. The restrooms were spotlessly clean.

The restaurant has an interesting, eye-catching interior. Lots of decorations and lots of flashing lights. We didn't eat anything there, just had a drink. Unfortunately, we were a bit disappointed. Half a liter of water from a PET bottle (a no-name product) for €4 is a bit too much. Overall, the stay was "okay," but the price-performance ratio wasn't quite right.

The aroma of many years of heavy smoking envelopes you as you enter this dark overly decorated space. Let this be a warning of the dining experience. We came here as part of a tour and it was not good. I want to say some nice things though. The bathrooms were very clean and actually did not smell of smoke or anything else unpleasant. Actually, going into the bathroom was a nice break from the restaurant dining area. The apple streusel was good. Everything else, the food and service was not good. The staff were not friendly and I felt like I was inconveniencing them with our presence. The beef sausage was an overcooked Costco hot dog. Don’t waste your time or euro here unless you need a clean bathroom. Also very tourist trappy as they did not post the prices for our terrible wine (3 glasses), 3 plastic water bottles, and 2 strudels. Which came to 62 Euro. Two people waited on our table one was a woman in her 50s and a younger woman in her 20s. I’ve attached a screenshot of the charge on my card. I was off by a few Euros on the charge. Still the charge for items were not posted ahead of time and we were not presented with a menu.

The food was great! I had a club sandwich and it tasted delicious. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, and the wood carvings particularly caught my eye. The service was very friendly; everyone came over to us often to ask if everything was okay, which was a bit too much, and one waitress was particularly attentive and always asked if we needed anything else. All in all, it was a very nice experience for me, and I will be coming back again. The experience was a 10/10.

**Wonderful first experience – we'll definitely be back!** We visited the "Zum Anker" restaurant in Assmannshausen for the first time today and were absolutely thrilled! The beautiful ambiance captivated us as soon as we entered – cozy, inviting, and designed with great attention to detail. We weren't disappointed with the food either: I had a Wiener Schnitzel, my husband a Lumberjack Steak – both were excellently prepared, delicious, and served in truly generous portions. They definitely don't skimp on quality or quantity. Special praise also goes to the service staff: everyone was very friendly and attentive. We were particularly impressed by the young waitress with the tattoos with her warm and courteous manner – we simply felt at home. Our conclusion: If you've never been here before, you should definitely visit this restaurant. It's worth it in every way!

Drinks are only available in 0.33l sizes, and the prices are absolutely outrageous. Unfortunately, the service wasn't particularly friendly or attentive either. The water came unchilled and in a Metro-brand plastic bottle. Incidentally, it cost a whopping €4! At least the entrance area looks nice!

Too expensive for what you get. The large apple spritzer comes in a maximum of 0.2L, even upon request, and if you order a 0.5L water, you get a small plastic bottle from a wholesaler. Professionalism doesn't look good. The location is nice, but we expected better.

We wanted to order drinks there as a group. At first, they handed out different menus, and the service was only moderately friendly. When asked, the waitress stated that they only serve drinks between 0.2 and 0.33 liters. We then ordered two waters, which were served in a plastic bottle of Metro's own brand "Aro." The water wasn't cold and still cost €4. A Coke costs €2.90 and is obviously diluted with water. When ordering the drinks, it was clear that the waitress was fully aware that this was a complete rip-off. Anyone who needs a drink in Rüdesheim should rather drink from the Rhine. It might give you a stomach ache, but you know you're not being ripped off :)

Absolutely a beautiful restaurant with beautiful things. You have to see it for yourself; you'll never stop being amazed. Very friendly service. Good food and good wine. We'll be happy to come back.

Beware of tourist traps: different menus with different drinks. When you order water, you get a 0.5-liter plastic bottle from Metro...sorry, but that's completely unacceptable.

Avoid it if you can. It's a terrible place with very rude service. The food is not good and it's expensive. Terrible atmosphere, terrible decoration.

Very original restaurant - worth a visit

The great ambiance can be deceptive. You can have a quick drink here and enjoy it. I would advise against the food. The recommended goulash tasted completely burnt. The cutlets were still okay. The side dish of croquettes had to be ordered separately. But I wouldn't necessarily order it again. The prices are too high for the quality you get. We ate maybe two or three forks of goulash, which was inedible. There was no discount or appropriate compensation. This visit really spoiled our holiday mood.

Went here just for a beer. At a price of €5.90 for a small wheat beer, I can only assume this is a tourist trap. The furnishings are very special, but actually comfortable. Would come again if it weren't for the prices.

The Restaurant Zum Anker offers a beautiful location with a pleasant atmosphere. The food is nothing special, but the quality is okay. Classic dishes that are prepared properly - no culinary surprises and certainly the right quality for everyone. But we found the rosé wine particularly tasty. We would definitely come back for a wine by the water. The ambience is definitely kitschy, but that's exactly what makes the restaurant so charming. Anyone who appreciates an uncomplicated, rustic environment with a pinch of nostalgia will feel at home here. Overall a nice place for a wine.

The restaurant is decorated very strangely. There are carved items all over the shop. The carvings are very beautiful, stuck on the walls all the way. The atmosphere is a bit dark, but it's nice to sit and eat. Plenty of local food, next to the river.

As part of our Rhine tour today via bus and River Boat, we were able to experience this restaurant without much choice. According to the advertisement for the tour, also found on Trip Advisor, guests were to receive their choice of the following: “Meal (several options): - Schnitzel (pork) with fries and salad - 2 beef sausages with potato salad - Fried fish with potato salad” En Route to the lunch, the bus operator took headcount for the following options: - Vegetarian (AKA troublemakers) - Beef Sausage and Potato Salad - Pork Schnitzel I ordered the Beef Sausage while my wife and child ordered the schnitzel so that we could have more variety to try. The folks who asked for the advertised fish were told by our tour guide that the restaurant was very busy and would not have time to make a fourth option available for them and they had to choose from the above 3 options instead. The source of these meals was this restaurant which we were ushered past several others after our bus was parked ~100 meters down the street. I am not sure how well prepared the couple who run the establishment were, but it took about 20 minutes to serve everyone in the group. The breading on the schnitzel was of good quality, but the pork was tough (we tenderize and flatten our cutlets at home) and the sauce tasted as though it came from a store bought jar. I have eaten at Costco food court many times over the years and my 1x beef sausage was identical to the Hebrew National 1/4 pound hot dogs served there. Eventually, our neighbors received their vegetarian dish which appeared to be a McFillet sandwich cutlet of fish. I know when growing up over 30 years ago that fish may have at one time been considered vegetarian, but I don’t think that this is generally considered to be the case any longer. It is a simple fact that fish are animal and not vegetable or mineral. While nearly finishing our meals and still waiting for our 3x Cokes to be delivered to our table a complimentary cold shower of 4x glasses of Coke from the waitresses delivery tray, which was tipped a bit too far in my direction, was delivered to my backside. The waitress apologized and returned to explain that their floor had just been cleaned earlier in the morning and that she had slipped. I was still considering myself very lucky that I did not get the hot shower option as my vegetarian neighbor at the table ordered hot water which was delivered steaming in a cup with a handle. When it came time to pay the bill, we were met with another surprise. While we were told the meals were included in the price of the tour, the drinks were not, and this was explained to us clearly on the bus during the drive to the restaurant. What was not explained to us ahead of time is that any purchases under 30 Euros could be paid in cash only. Luckily, we had 8 Euros in our emergency wallet to cover the 7.80 Euro charge for 3x Colas in 200 mL glasses. I wasn’t offered any change which I kind of expected at that point because the waitress had already told the other couples and families within the tour group that she just simply could not make ANY change for them. Luckily, there was no charge for the cold shower!

The atmosphere inside is very special, but we sat outside because of a tour group. Since we couldn't move into our holiday apartment above the restaurant because we were there too early, we passed the time in the anchor and ate and drank something. The food was ok and was served relatively quickly despite the tour group inside. The service was also very friendly.

Unfortunately, this restaurant is not very inviting. The demo is overloaded and it is dark and moderately ventilated in the interior. Unfortunately, the schnitzel meat was of medium quality, not flattened enough and not breaded crispy. Unfortunately, I can't recommend stopping here. In any case, we don't come here anymore.

This is such a very unique restaurant. We just came in for quick meal and was greeted by the owner Wolfgang. Made us feel so welcome. The food was great and and service was friendly.

If you go with the tour, the food served is really of very poor quality. Not to mention the exaggerated price they charge for a 0.3L beer at €5.60, a rip-off. Maybe without a tour group lunch, the experience will be different.

I waited 30 minutes or so for my food even though there were only two families in the restaurant

Forced to come here as apart of a tour. The most disgusting schnitzel I’ve had in my two years living in Germany. Half pint of beer was 6 euro, .33L bottle of water 4 euro. If you stopped focusing on the decorations on walls and start serving food that is edible and not cooked from frozen, the restaurant won’t be empty on a Saturday night.

You want to know my impression. Well, I didn't expect to find a restaurant like this in southern or central Germany. Here in the Rhineland area, where many restaurants advertise wine tasting, a restaurant with a wine bar called “Zum Anker” is very unusual. Opposite are also piers for the Loreley cruise and other sights. The prices are normal and you will be surprised at the portion size. The boss takes the time and chats with the guests. Personally, I'm torn. We will be back!!!

Very special atmosphere that caught our attention. It's all full of decorations. Really everything. According to the motto a lot helps a lot. Unfortunately, it was also the most interesting thing. The food was ready to eat and really not great. The service also brought a meal incorrectly and charged it in full or apologized in some other way. In addition, the service is very slow and not particularly friendly.

Sunken! Avoid! Bad food, bad service. Scolded by staff. 2 had stomach problems. Non-carbonated drink (cola). Got the wrong food that was ordered (fries instead of potatoes, sauce instead of without, etc.).

Well, what do you say...The food was among the worst I've eaten. I had a schnitzel with fries. The schnitzel was something frozen whole, mushy and didn't taste good. Also ordered coca cola which was completely carbonated. The service was below all criticism. The younger clerk got angry when we pointed out that she had come in with the wrong food. Very unpleasant and should have taken a service course how to behave as a waitress! In addition, my husband and daughter became sick to their stomachs a few hours after the visit. They chose different man than what we ate. The atmosphere and decor are an experience. Here, a lot of time is spent collecting furnishings. Unfortunately, however, the only positive thing about the restaurant. Would not recommend anyone to eat here, unfortunately.

We have visited this restaurant before. Chose to do it again. A group of 9 people (including 2 children). Started with Diet Coke without carbonation (probably from the tap?). We asked ourselves if we "dared" point this out to the young female waiter but declined.. Ordered rump steak no. 143 with herb butter and boiled potatoes instead of fries. Received rump steak no. 144 with pepper sauce and fries. Pointed out to the same waiter that I received the wrong order. Got a snide comment that I mentioned that I wanted boiled potatoes (correctly) but not which sauce or number. I clearly said that I mentioned the number which then meant only herb butter. The waiter did not accept this but snapped that "we don't throw away any meat and we can't change the sauce to herb butter". I tried to explain that this was not the case. She persisted and was rude, then took the plate lifted it on the table next to the menu pile, took a menu to refute me as a customer!!! Rude!! Unpleasant!! I then pointed to my menu choice.. she went into the kitchen sulking and muttering, then came out and said my order would be replaced. Correct order came in. However, this made me as a customer feel bad and will never eat here again or recommend the place to anyone else...lucky we didn't point out the poorly carbonated Diet Coke. You don't treat guests or customers this way, the temper and muttering comments could be heard all the way to the table too.
