Restaurant "Weisse Düne" in Norderney

After a bike ride or a hike on the beach, this is a worthwhile destination on Norderney. Great atmosphere and very attentive and friendly staff. PLEASE NOTE: Opening time is 11:00 AM. If you want a spot by the fireplace/lounge area, you should arrive a little earlier; otherwise, it's nearly impossible to find a seat. You'll have to wait in line.

A very pleasant stay after a 6km hike. Service was appropriate, friendly, and approachable. The price/performance ratio is commensurate with the location. The visit itself was quite busy during this winter time, but it was very well managed and helpful staff were always on hand. Would gladly return!

Visit at the end of 2025: Another "in" spot on Norderney. A short walk along the beach is highly recommended; it's absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, many guests also arrive by bus. The restaurant is very popular, and there's always a queue at the entrance. However, the service is very friendly and professional. No stress at all. The food is delicious, and the prices are "still okay." Given the sheer number of visitors, the staff/service deserves special praise!

Prices are skyrocketing now, beautiful building, sets made of real cowhide are truly gruesome! Dead animal heads on the wall.

A very popular destination, reachable after a short walk of about an hour along the beach from Nordstrand/Norderney town. This may well be the reason for its enormous popularity. Waiting in line for half an hour on a weekday in the dreary winter weather to get in for coffee was, in retrospect, well worth it for the delicious apple cake, which arrives almost oven-fresh. The legendary almond crumble is also a must-try every year. Sure, there are a few lounge chairs by the fireplace with a view of the dunes – but getting one of those requires a bit of luck. The rest of the seating is rustic, at wooden tables by the window, on the terrace in front, or next door at the new DünenBox kiosk. Five stars for the incredibly motivated young team, who never lost their enthusiasm for their work despite the crowds and always greeted guests with a smile. Hats off to them!

The food deserves all the stars. What's served here is sensational. Unfortunately, my waiter was clearly drunk. That mars the overall experience, hence 3 out of 5 stars; the food really deserves 5.

In summer, it's the go-to spot after a long walk on the beach. Now, in the winter off-season, it's closed for a well-deserved team holiday. But there's a small mulled wine stand. Prices are known to be on the high side 😀

The Weiße Düne restaurant is simply a must-visit on Norderney. It's not exactly cheap, but definitely worth a stop. Even in winter, it's always busy.

We only had a drink at the dune stand. The mulled wine was delicious and the atmosphere was really lovely. The fire was blazing and the soft background music made it absolutely perfect.

I was there with a large group over the weekend, and it wasn't a good experience for us. The restaurant itself is very nice, with a great atmosphere and decor. Everything else was awful. The food was oversalted and far too expensive for the small portions. What ruined our visit the most was the bearded waiter: we were only allowed to order drinks at first and were subjected to nothing but derogatory remarks. The drinks were slammed down on the table. The waiter was simply rude and overstepping the mark, and it couldn't be excused by the "fun-loving" atmosphere of the restaurant. The other staff members, however, were very friendly. It's a shame that this restaurant exploits its monopoly position in the area in this way. We won't be coming back.

It was very small and completely overcrowded. Considering it's supposed to be a highlight of the island, I was a little disappointed.

The White Dune is always a good choice... even when it gets as crowded as a train station during peak season ;-) but that's not the White Dune's fault; it's the many clueless tourists who need to work on themselves.... The food (especially the fish and chips and the almond crumble) is, in our opinion, outstanding and unique. The service is always super friendly, sometimes even a bit gruff in a Nordic way, but always with a healthy dose of humor, and the seasonal staff—as far as I remember—deserve a huge hat's off to them! Everyone is genuinely friendly and welcoming to all customers. The ambiance is simply fantastic, and the location is incredibly beautiful, right on the beach. You're just a few steps away from the dunes, and the sea is only a short 2-minute walk. The owners must be really great people, because the staff wouldn't be so wonderful and highly motivated without them! We've been coming here for decades and will continue to do so with great pleasure. TOP, and simply fantastic...

Divine ice cream (Grandma's vanilla pudding with pumpkin seed oil and crunch), warmth from the service and drinks in bad weather - would love to come again.

Unfortunately, the service was very unfriendly. Two waiters were extremely arrogant, and hospitality was clearly lacking. Today, I felt more like a nuisance.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening. Excellent service, the food cooked to perfection. The staff were very attentive and courteous, yet relaxed. The ambiance was sophisticated, cozy, and warm, thanks to the predominantly wooden furnishings. We would love to come back again.

An absolute highlight on Norderney! The Weiße Düne not only offers a stunning location directly behind the dunes, but also excellent food in a relaxed, stylish atmosphere. The tomahawk steak was perfectly prepared, with delicious sides and fresh ingredients – and a glass of rosé, simply unbeatable. The service was attentive and Nordic-friendly, and the ambiance exudes a true holiday feeling. A place where you'll want to stay longer – definitely one of the most beautiful spots on the island! 🌊🥂

How lucky we were! We got a table for seven people within a few minutes without a reservation. The waiters are very service-oriented and friendly. Due to the high demand, you have to be prepared for a while for your food to arrive. In return, you'll be rewarded with freshly prepared, delicious, varied, and exceptionally beautifully presented dishes. I absolutely loved the herring fillets on warm whole-grain bread, with plenty of salad and a delicious dressing. A must-try since we started vacationing on Norderney.

Perfect place to stop after a long walk on the beach. I highly recommend the sweet potato fries and the beach burger. They're incredibly delicious 😊 Plus, they even come with a salad. That's not a given in many places anymore. The atmosphere in the room is great. The service is cheerful, which is contagious. I'd love to come back here again 🥰

What can I say? A classic that's worth stopping by. *Sucking cold* was delicious. Especially since our group had hiked almost 7km beforehand. Friendly service. A beautiful beach just below. We'd love to come back.

On one page of the menu, the heading "Kiss the Chef" is written! I would have loved to do that, too, after eating the potato soup with crab.

We only had a few drinks, so no stars for the food. The weather was very good during our visit (thanks to the ladies who moved closer together for us), so it was accordingly busy. My respect for the service, who once again had everything under control and were also very friendly.

I've been here many times, but today it was horrible. It was irresponsible how an employee of the Norderney Technical Services endangered children today when he picked up the beach chair with a loader. The children were behind him, putting things away. Even though we called out, he just kept going.

A trendy hotspot on Norderney. Here you can enjoy a delicious meal in the restaurant or just a hot chocolate on the terrace (unless you can find a free seat). It's amazing that the "Weisse-Düne-Bier" here comes from Gruibingen in the Swabian Alb. All the best, in fact.

Top restaurant. My wife and I celebrated our wedding here and returned two more times during our subsequent stay. Simply a fantastic ambiance with excellent service. We couldn't have imagined a better setting for our wedding with 20 people. Everything was simply perfect that evening. And even after a few initial hiccups, everything went smoothly with the planning and coordination beforehand. The other two visits (once for lunch and once for dinner) were also very good. I had fish and chips for lunch and the daily special in the evening. I can also particularly recommend the towers, although they are quite a large starter for two people. Generally speaking, it's important to make a reservation in the evening and it's generally very busy.

Disgusting brown mint leaves in the Almdudler, the vegetables were truly boring, the service was unbelievably bad, we had to wait forever even though they saw us. The waiter didn't listen properly and forgot half of what we were eating. Then you had to remind him again and he still forgot half of what we were eating. You definitely get the feeling that the only thing they care about here is the "VIPs." Outside, you're treated rather poorly – for all the hype surrounding the white dune – a real shame, we really expected more! We definitely won't be coming back.

We had reserved a table. The setting was child-friendly for our children. They were able to color their papers. Our waitress, Mia, was super friendly and incredibly prompt. Even when a mistake occurred in the kitchen, everything was resolved quickly and easily. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was very cozy.

Highly recommended as a beach restaurant ala Sansibar Sylt... only not as expensive ;-) Great ambiance, lovely indoor and outdoor areas with direct access to the beach... simply beautiful location. Next door is a great little shop for souvenirs and delicious homemade beer... You should definitely go here, preferably by bike. Be sure to make a reservation for dinner, though...

A bottomless concept. You have to make a reservation to get the full menu; if you don't, you'll only get a small selection. Specifically, a snack or a vegan 🤮 burger. It's a shame, it hasn't been like this in recent years.

We've been coming to the island at least once a year since 2006 (except during the coronavirus pandemic), and a beach walk to the White Dune is always a must, no matter how long we're there. We got married on the island in 2008, and after the church wedding, we celebrated here in the restaurant with a fantastic buffet while the restaurant was still open. Our guests and we will never forget it; it was unique and wonderful! Nowadays, there's often a long queue at the entrance during the day, and tables are assigned. But usually, it's quicker than you expect before seats become available inside. Before or after dinner, you can use the time there to go to the beach. In the summer, they have beach chairs for rent and a small kiosk with drinks, ice cream, and snacks. The location and ambiance are fantastic, the staff are always super friendly, and the food is fresh and delicious. Simply fantastic!!!

Good food, but you may have to wait a bit.

In the evening, there are only four very special dishes on the terrace. They tend to be not ideal for children—no exceptions are made. We had the "Türmchen" (little tower) and it was very tasty, but definitely a special dish—you have to be a good fish/crab eater! Absolutely great service and a fantastic atmosphere!! ⭐️

Here, bicycles worth €10,000 [two of them] are simply being invasively relocated and damaged... One can only be astonished by the way this customer education is handled. Another bicycle was also damaged in the unkind attempt to "reject" our bikes there. The bikes weren't in the way, just a side note.

Great location, that's about it. The waitress (man), I don't know his name, was absolutely unfriendly! The menu/food served outside was a complete rip-off... The price/performance ratio was a joke! If you don't have a reservation (outside), you get a selection of a few mini snacks at exorbitant prices. Yes, fine dining costs money, I know that... definitely never again for my wife and me. But the beach is great, so definitely bring your own drinks and snacks...

We love coming to the White Dune every time we go on holiday. The location is very nice and cozy, both inside and out. We particularly like the relaxed atmosphere. The fountain beer is highly recommended, and in my opinion, they also have the best shrimp stew in the world. The value for money is excellent, the portions are really generous, and the prices are always fair. We recommend the White Dune to everyone, especially families with children.

The White Dune on Norderney is a worthwhile destination every year during our vacation! You can easily walk there along the north beach and are rewarded with particularly attractively presented dishes. I would definitely like to highlight the "Pumpkin Inferno"! Vanilla Friesen ice cream with a dash of pumpkin seed oil, roasted pumpkin seeds, and a dollop of pumpkin compote. A true explosion of flavor that I highly recommend! The almond crumble with Friesen ice cream yogurt, plum compote, and cookie crumble is also definitely worth a treat!

The location is absolutely fantastic! Right on the beach, almost overlooking the ocean. I found the prices significantly too high this year. The drink prices, in particular, are unbearable...

We celebrated our wedding with 20 guests at the Weiße Düne. It couldn't have been better. Top-notch service, amazing food, a dream location. All of our guests remembered the evening for a long time. We returned a week later and enjoyed the atmosphere. The Weiße Düne does everything right. You feel comfortable and welcome here.

Very tasty food with very friendly and charming service (Marry).

Unfortunately, our visit to the restaurant's outdoor area was marked by some inconsistencies. There were only three vegetarian or vegan dishes to choose from. When we asked if we could sit inside and order from the regular menu (including meat dishes), we were refused, with the explanation that reservations would have to be made at least five weeks in advance. The restaurant was not even half full at that time. We were also informed that no meat dishes were currently offered, even though they were still listed on the official online menu. It was all the more disconcerting that other guests in the outdoor area were apparently receiving dishes from the regular menu, including meat options. This contradictory behavior unfortunately leaves the impression of a lack of transparency and unequal treatment – almost like a two-tier society. Overall, this visit was rather disappointing. The ambience is appealing, but service and communication urgently need to be made clearer and more consistent. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the restaurant at this time.

We really liked the stylish location. We only had a drink there, but we'll definitely come back for dinner. The only thing missing is some shady outdoor seating. Best wishes to Fabian :)

Good menu, stylish inside, a must on Norderney

Not bad, but the prices were pretty steep. It wasn't worth it to me. And you can't see the beach or the North Sea.

There were three of us there. One of our group was wearing a second-division football jersey and was warmly greeted by a super-friendly waiter. Sometimes it's the little things that make you extremely happy. We also had delicious Frisian ice cream and drinks. Unfortunately, we haven't been there very often, as we were put off by the extremely long line. But one thing is for sure: it's worth it!

If you're happy paying €5 for a coffee, this is the place for you. Unfortunately, I'm out of that category.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars Overall, the restaurant offers a mediocre experience. The dishes are rather unspectacular in terms of taste and sometimes a bit bland – especially the thin, white sauces and side dishes lack freshness and flavor. The prices are comparatively high, which is disproportionate to the quality offered. The service is also mediocre – while attentive, at times inattentive or unfriendly. There are definitely better alternatives for the price.

I highly recommend the Weisse Düne to anyone visiting Norderney. The service is truly excellent and extremely friendly. The food is incredibly delicious, and the whole experience is highly recommended! We'd love to come back when we're back on the island :)

The best restaurant on the island. Of course, everything costs a euro more, but it's definitely recommended. It's best to try all the beers. They were all delicious. The seating is very comfortable. But it fills up pretty quickly.
