Restaurant "Weisse Düne" in Norderney

We've been coming to the island at least once a year since 2006 (except during the coronavirus pandemic), and a beach walk to the White Dune is always a must, no matter how long we're there. We got married on the island in 2008, and after the church wedding, we celebrated here in the restaurant with a fantastic buffet while the restaurant was still open. Our guests and we will never forget it; it was unique and wonderful! Nowadays, there's often a long queue at the entrance during the day, and tables are assigned. But usually, it's quicker than you expect before seats become available inside. Before or after dinner, you can use the time there to go to the beach. In the summer, they have beach chairs for rent and a small kiosk with drinks, ice cream, and snacks. The location and ambiance are fantastic, the staff are always super friendly, and the food is fresh and delicious. Simply fantastic!!!

Coffee too strong and there is no cappuccino...only milk coffee

A really nice restaurant right on the white dune. The location is 10/10, and the food was also incredibly delicious. The prices are a bit on the high side, of course, but they're perfectly fine for the quality ☺️🙌🏼

Good food, but you may have to wait a bit.

In the evening, there are only four very special dishes on the terrace. They tend to be not ideal for children—no exceptions are made. We had the "Türmchen" (little tower) and it was very tasty, but definitely a special dish—you have to be a good fish/crab eater! Absolutely great service and a fantastic atmosphere!! ⭐️

Simply a lovely beach bar with a great evening menu, friendly staff, and direct beach access! We'd gladly return.

Here, bicycles worth €10,000 [two of them] are simply being invasively relocated and damaged... One can only be astonished by the way this customer education is handled. Another bicycle was also damaged in the unkind attempt to "reject" our bikes there. The bikes weren't in the way, just a side note.

Great location, that's about it. The waitress (man), I don't know his name, was absolutely unfriendly! The menu/food served outside was a complete rip-off... The price/performance ratio was a joke! If you don't have a reservation (outside), you get a selection of a few mini snacks at exorbitant prices. Yes, fine dining costs money, I know that... definitely never again for my wife and me. But the beach is great, so definitely bring your own drinks and snacks...

We love coming to the White Dune every time we go on holiday. The location is very nice and cozy, both inside and out. We particularly like the relaxed atmosphere. The fountain beer is highly recommended, and in my opinion, they also have the best shrimp stew in the world. The value for money is excellent, the portions are really generous, and the prices are always fair. We recommend the White Dune to everyone, especially families with children.

The White Dune on Norderney is a worthwhile destination every year during our vacation! You can easily walk there along the north beach and are rewarded with particularly attractively presented dishes. I would definitely like to highlight the "Pumpkin Inferno"! Vanilla Friesen ice cream with a dash of pumpkin seed oil, roasted pumpkin seeds, and a dollop of pumpkin compote. A true explosion of flavor that I highly recommend! The almond crumble with Friesen ice cream yogurt, plum compote, and cookie crumble is also definitely worth a treat!

We celebrated our wedding with 20 guests at the Weiße Düne. It couldn't have been better. Top-notch service, amazing food, a dream location. All of our guests remembered the evening for a long time. We returned a week later and enjoyed the atmosphere. The Weiße Düne does everything right. You feel comfortable and welcome here.

The location is absolutely fantastic! Right on the beach, almost overlooking the ocean. I found the prices significantly too high this year. The drink prices, in particular, are unbearable...

Unfortunately, our visit to the restaurant's outdoor area was marked by some inconsistencies. There were only three vegetarian or vegan dishes to choose from. When we asked if we could sit inside and order from the regular menu (including meat dishes), we were refused, with the explanation that reservations would have to be made at least five weeks in advance. The restaurant was not even half full at that time. We were also informed that no meat dishes were currently offered, even though they were still listed on the official online menu. It was all the more disconcerting that other guests in the outdoor area were apparently receiving dishes from the regular menu, including meat options. This contradictory behavior unfortunately leaves the impression of a lack of transparency and unequal treatment – almost like a two-tier society. Overall, this visit was rather disappointing. The ambience is appealing, but service and communication urgently need to be made clearer and more consistent. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the restaurant at this time.

Very tasty food with very friendly and charming service (Marry).

We really liked the stylish location. We only had a drink there, but we'll definitely come back for dinner. The only thing missing is some shady outdoor seating. Best wishes to Fabian :)

Not bad, but the prices were pretty steep. It wasn't worth it to me. And you can't see the beach or the North Sea.

Good menu, stylish inside, a must on Norderney

There were three of us there. One of our group was wearing a second-division football jersey and was warmly greeted by a super-friendly waiter. Sometimes it's the little things that make you extremely happy. We also had delicious Frisian ice cream and drinks. Unfortunately, we haven't been there very often, as we were put off by the extremely long line. But one thing is for sure: it's worth it!

It is a beautiful piece of beach with a very rustic hut, but self-service and excessive prices

If you're happy paying €5 for a coffee, this is the place for you. Unfortunately, I'm out of that category.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars Overall, the restaurant offers a mediocre experience. The dishes are rather unspectacular in terms of taste and sometimes a bit bland – especially the thin, white sauces and side dishes lack freshness and flavor. The prices are comparatively high, which is disproportionate to the quality offered. The service is also mediocre – while attentive, at times inattentive or unfriendly. There are definitely better alternatives for the price.

I highly recommend the Weisse Düne to anyone visiting Norderney. The service is truly excellent and extremely friendly. The food is incredibly delicious, and the whole experience is highly recommended! We'd love to come back when we're back on the island :)

A truly lovely place to linger, with a fireplace inside, it's really cozy. The service was excellent and the kids loved it. The food was delicious. Highly recommended, we'll definitely be back. Delicious.

The best restaurant on the island. Of course, everything costs a euro more, but it's definitely recommended. It's best to try all the beers. They were all delicious. The seating is very comfortable. But it fills up pretty quickly.

Weiss Düne is, of course, a must for any Norderney vacation. Currywurst from a jar and a smoky beer. Always a favorite.

We came here twice, once for afternoon coffee and once for dinner. Both times, the service was generally very quick and friendly. The second time, however, we were forgotten during shift change. This was quickly rectified after we made ourselves known. The food and drinks were really great both times – some of the best we've had on Norderney. There's a lot of heavy drinking going on outside, especially, which is probably encouraged by the offer of magnum bottles of beer, for example. Inside, however, you don't notice much of this and sit in the lovely restaurant area or in the lounge with a fireplace. Overall, a highly recommended location.

A stunningly beautiful restaurant! Great design and ambiance. Very stylish and thoughtful down to the last detail. Lots of wood, very warm colors, and everything coordinated. The area with the fireplace, huge windows, and the view of the dunes and sea is simply stunning! The staff is amazing! Very friendly and competent, with a smile and a joy to work with. Fantastic! Our meal was served quickly and was a real eye-catcher! There were nine of us, and everyone enjoyed it. At first glance, the portions didn't seem large, but we barely finished them and were absolutely stuffed. I highly recommend it! I really hope I'll have the opportunity to visit this wonderful restaurant again.

A must-try on Norderney was the beach burger with sweet potatoes and salad, a really generous portion and delicious. Right on the beach, with very attentive and friendly service. The price/quality ratio is absolutely right given the great location and setting. The plum crumble cake is also highly recommended. See you next time.

We were there for the first time today with five adults and one child! The food was delicious and the service was really good. The waitress who served our table was so friendly, something you rarely see these days! Thank you for the lovely evening!

Always worth a hike! Great menu, very friendly service! 2023 See above! Nothing has changed; we strolled leisurely through the dunes, snagged a sunny terrace spot, made a reservation for the evening, and were welcome to sit outside. The food was amazing as always, we received very good wine recommendations, and the service was always courteous and attentive! Always with a witty saying, funny, and yet still keeping an eye on everything. The employees are all very good "salespeople"! And here's a little tip for the negative reviewers: 1. Address mistakes directly, and you'll get help right away. 2. There are hundreds of other "important" guests who want to be served immediately; it's just not possible! On vacation, you have time, or you cook at home, the end of it! In short – THE GUEST IS KING WHEN THEY BEHAVE LIKE AN EMPEROR! The staff was extremely friendly, even though all the outside tables were occupied. The food and drinks were served quickly; the food was excellent and hot, and the drinks were cold. It couldn't be better. Thank you for the lovely afternoon. We'd love to come back.

Wie jedes Jahr waren wir auch diesmal nicht nur tagsüber sondern auch abends dort essen. Auf Empfehlung der netten Bedienung folgendes bestellt ( stand nicht auf der Karte ) : Riesling Weingut "Gold"und die "Fischkiste" . Nachtisch von der Karte : "Tiramisu mal anders" mit zwei Löffeln ( Eiskugel mit Blüten ) Alles Top und lecker. Was uns auffällt : Sehr viel motiviertes Personal vorhanden. Wir kommen drei mal jährlich. Die letzten 3 Jahre immer die gleiche Bedienung. Was für die Düne als Arbeitgeber spricht.

Like every year, we ate there not only during the day but also in the evening. On the recommendation of the friendly waitress, we ordered the following (not on the menu): Riesling Weingut "Gold" and the "Fischkiste" (fish box). Dessert from the menu: "Tiramisu with a twist" with two spoons (a scoop of ice cream with flowers). Everything was top-notch and delicious. What struck us: The highly motivated staff. We come three times a year. The service has always been the same for the past three years. Which speaks volumes about the Düne as an employer.

Beautiful restaurant, great ambiance, delicious food, and very friendly service. What bothered us was that the "boss" reprimanded the friendly employees in front of the guests! Unpleasant for both staff and guests!

Lange Wartezeit und ein unfreundlicher Kellner im Außenbereich. Lieber Getränke selber mitbringen und genießen, anstatt sich zu ärgern.

Unfortunately, I found the waiter, "Daniel," in the outdoor area to be rude and lacking in manners. I waited 15 minutes, the menu was thrown on the table, and after asking if I could order something, the answer was that I didn't even say "hello." Unfortunately, it seemed to me as if the gentleman bringing the drinks had no training in the hospitality industry. The manual was apparently unfamiliar. Guests are supposed to be greeted in a friendly manner. That didn't seem to be the case. Ultimately, the money was spent at another restaurant that was 1000% friendlier. A wonderful place, which unfortunately led to such a negative review from one person. Given the many negative reviews, it's very questionable why such service still exists. In my opinion, this should not be supported any further. As promised, I send my best regards.

Also eigentlich null Sterne. Der Kellner Daniel unglaublich frech und unhöflich. Zuvor hat er sich mit unseren Benachbarten Gästen gestritten. Man wird sehr zurecht gewiesen. Lange Wartezeiten und noch doofe Kommentare. Schmiss die Karte auf den Tisch im vorbeilaufen. Unglaublich sowas unfreundliches hab ich noch nie erlebt. Danke für nichts. Beim Hinweis auf eine Bewertung, ruderte er wieder zurück und wurde plötzlich freundlich. NIe wieder!!!!

Comfortable seating, friendly staff, highly recommended.

The redfish was truly perfect, and the side dishes were perfectly prepared. Another positive is that there's a children's menu, which isn't immediately apparent on the website.

It's just sad what kind of helpless staff they employ here. Waiters walk past tables empty-handed without even asking if the customer would like a drink. No wonder the manager wants to run three restaurants at once. Unbelievable.

It's a shame, we used to love coming here! They don't serve cappuccino anymore, and the service isn't as customer-oriented. The location is so good that I get the feeling the Weisse Düne no longer makes any effort for its guests.

A terrible place. Understaffed, and waiters take it out on the customers. Waiter Dennis and the busboy (older and with a beard) took 40 minutes to bring a 3L bottle of beer. They showed no understanding of why we were in a bad mood. The busboy asked if we "needed some pills." Always a regular, but unfortunately never again. If there aren't enough staff, then they'll open tables instead of prioritizing quantity over quality.

Very nice atmosphere and delicious food. However, I definitely lose a star for the waitress who served me (a blonde with a noticeable tattoo on her face) – she was extremely unpleasant, condescending, and deficient in etiquette.

This restaurant is highly recommended. We went there twice during our vacation: once for the delicious soup with fish, crab, and mussels, bread, and aioli, and a second time in the evening for Wiener Schnitzel made with salted veal and lamb. Both times it was incredibly delicious, and the service was very attentive (thanks to Marry and Fabian). The prices reflect the really good quality of the food, and the portions were more than ample. It's a shame it's so far away for us, but we'll definitely be back.

Never again – simply unbelievable! A rude, insulting, and aggressive (bald) waiter does everything he can to scare away guests! Anyone who goes here should be prepared for a lot of this. This gentleman is a total master at humiliating guests in front of other guests! In my opinion, this is unacceptable and damaging to the business of this truly lovely restaurant!

Als ehemaliger Inselarbeiter weiß ich sehr gut, wie herausfordernd der Job ist. Daher möchte ich meine tiefe Anerkennung und Dankbarkeit für das Team der Weißen Düne zum Ausdruck bringen. Ihr seid unglaublich herzlich und zuvorkommend, insbesondere zu Kindern. Meine eigenen, 2 und 3 Jahre alt, fragen ständig, wann wir wieder zur Weißen Düne fahren, was nur bedeutet, dass ihr eure Arbeit ausgezeichnet macht. Ich möchte hier betonen, dass ich die negativen Bewertungen, die auf verschiedenen Plattformen über die Weiße Düne veröffentlicht wurden, absolut nicht nachvollziehen kann. Ein spezielles Lob möchte ich an Fabi aussprechen, aber auch das restliche Team verdient Anerkennung. Ihr seid alle unglaublich liebevoll, besonders zu Kindern.

Eine nette Location, wir sind dort immer sehr gerne eingekehrt. Aber Achtung es gibt dort einen unsäglich schnoddrigen Kellner. Wir haben den Eindruck, dass er entweder von der Konkurrenz eingeschleust wurde, um das Unternehmen zu ruinieren, oder er hat vorher in einem Bums auf der Reeperbahn gekellnert und kann nicht anders. Schade um die Weisse Düne.

Ambiente sehr schön. Kellner nett und höflich. Der bestellte Milchkaffee war nur lauwarm, was ich immer sehr schade finde. Kaffee kam nicht zusammen mit dem Kuchen. Die beiden Kuchen, Apfelkuchen und Zwetschgen-Streuselkuchen waren nicht frisch gebacken. Selbstgemachtes Eis dazu aber lecker. 2 x Kaffee und 2 x Kuchen (1 x mit einer Kugel Eis) für 28,20 € schon ordentlich. In unseren vorherigen Jahren haben wir dort bessere Erfahrungen gemacht.

Early summer weather; hiking boots on; bus to the "Weisse Düne" stop... As we walked past (with packed lunches from the hotel), the terrace was packed. The place seems to be buzzing...

Die Qualität der Speisen und Getränke können wir nicht bewerten, Servicekräfte waren zwar mehr als genug vorhanden, die sich aber krampfhaft an der Theke festhielten und nicht bedienten. Schade wir hätten gerne etwas bestellt.

...On May 12, 2025, around 1:00 PM, we visited the outdoor area and were unfortunately very disappointed by the behavior of the waiter. From the very first moment, he seemed arrogant and uninterested in the guests. He responded to polite inquiries with an annoyed tone and lacked any kindness. Instead of addressing our concerns in a solution-oriented manner, we were fobbed off with rude remarks, which gave the impression that customer service is not a priority here and that the guests are a nuisance. Every other waiter was simply friendly and served us with a smile! I would recommend shadow training for the waiter in question. The food was really very good.... Unfortunately, the service only made it worse.

The restaurant is very nice, both inside and out. The food is good. But the waiter was very arrogant, condescending, and cheeky. He was loudly gossiping about the guests at the next table, even though they were still there. He wasn't allowed to ask about the food either, and he responded very rudely. We've never been served so badly. It's a shame that it puts the restaurant in a bad light. He should find another job.

A great excursion restaurant on the Weiße Düne beach on Norderney. It's become quite the in-house, but it's just a great location. Drinks and meals as well as coffee and cake are quite expensive. However, good quality and the cold drinks are really cold - really cold! That's why you're always welcome to come here. It's just a vacation...

When the weather is good, it gets crowded outside as soon as it opens. Pleasant meals at slightly higher prices. And..... of course I ate the currywurst, the meat was very balanced, and the sauce is, as always, a matter of taste, it had too much acidity for me, but was otherwise pleasant and seemed handmade. The staff was attentive and friendly, so a recommendation for a stop over.

The idea of ​​“fresh sea air” is consistently counteracted here with a “cozy” wood fire. But e-bike and car customers aren't bothered by smog here either. So: everything is fine - for you, not for me. I'm just peeing here.
