Restaurant umami – Sushi & Grill in Konstanz

We were kicked out because they wanted to close at 9:45 PM even though they were open until 11:00 PM.

We'd been wanting to eat at Umami for a while because it looks so beautiful from the outside. But it wasn't quite as beautiful inside. On a Monday evening, it was surprisingly packed, and we felt a bit like we were being treated on a treadmill. The appetizer (eggplant with cherries) was excellent, super tasty! The sushi was perfectly fine. Unfortunately, the ramen was completely ridiculous, which was a real shame: you couldn't even taste the broth, there were only two pieces of meat, and the noodles were like they came from a fast-food restaurant. For these "very high" prices, I would have expected better quality main courses. The non-alcoholic cocktail "Vitamin Bomb" tasted like a multivitamin juice.

The staff was unfriendly. I ordered an appetizer and a main course, and then I wanted to order another appetizer, so basically two appetizers. The waiter was annoyed and said, "I've already typed it in." The food was absolutely terrible, especially the sushi! The sushi at the grocery store tastes even better. The price is absolutely outrageous.

Good white ramen with rich broth is what the doctor ordered on a chilly evening. Enjoyed it, thank you :)

Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. The food was underwhelming, and the waiter was rude. What was particularly unpleasant was that he complained about the tip at the end.

The restaurant is centrally located, very stylishly decorated, and makes a great first impression, making it the perfect place for a relaxed meal with friends in small groups. The sushi is the star of the menu here. Unfortunately, the bento box and especially the tonkotsu ramen soup drastically tarnished the food rating. The ramen soup is truly not recommended and was (for me) unfortunately not enjoyable. The service is fast and friendly. The drinks are pricey but worth the money.

The sushi and poke bowls are highly recommended! They taste delicious with fresh ingredients. The service was also friendly.

Very tasty dishes. We were there twice during our few days of vacation.

I'm not very experienced with sushi, but Unami offered us a pleasant evening with delicious food and friendly service all around. And yes, for me, the food was simply good and enjoyable. I'd gladly go back.

The music is too loud, at least get Spotify Premium. My sushi was still warm. I think it was because of the tempura. Don't they bring the drinks first and then the food? One of the waiters is Albanian, I guess because he was cursing in Albanian. Sort it out behind the counter in front of the guests. It's crazy. Otherwise, it was okay. Those potato balls were also unnecessary and had hardly any flavor, just like the drinks. We had mango juice and peach iced tea. There was barely any smoke in the mango, and the peach tasted like water.

Very nice ambiance, inviting and cozy. The curry was very tasty. The prices are relatively high. Overall, a worthwhile visit.

Unfortunately, never again! We've been customers for years. Over time, it feels like it's gotten more expensive and less expensive each time. This time, it was even below average. Quite a combination of Aisan and Western dishes, and probably, drinks. The cold soup was impressive. Its always better to book the seat outside during summer.

In two weeks took as starter the Rock Shrimp Tempura which was really good, I particularly enjoyed the Chilimayo. And then we took 2 nigiri with salmon, a Crunchy Roll, Tempura Prawn Roll and a Roll with salmon. The quantity was good for two people and in general it’s a good sushi.

Used for takeout. Unlike Japanese sushi, they also had creative dishes. They served sushi like asparagus, which I've never seen in Japan. The name of the restaurant made me think of Japan, but the interior is more Chinese than Japanese.

Average, but nothing special. We had the sushi platter for three people, and it was clearly too little for three people. The prices were a bit steep, which isn't unusual in Konstanz. However, for the high price, I also want to be full and not feel like I'm leaving half-hungry. We sat outside, which was very nice, if you overlook the fact that there were stains on the upholstery, as well as a lot of dark female hair, which isn't exactly appetizing when eating. The drinks were tasty, but we had to wait a bit for the food, even though it wasn't particularly busy... we weren't that satisfied and won't be returning there anytime soon.

They charge carafe tap water for 5 euros!!!! Never agdin in this restaurant

The first and last time. I was speechless that I had fried sushi on the table for around €17 for a roll divided into six, which didn't fill me at all. I had to order again and ended up with a bill of around €40. And the taste was nothing special...

Super delicious food and great service. If we were ever in Konstanz again, we would definitely come back. We tried some completely new sushi variations and were thrilled. Nothing was disappointing. Everything was fresh and delicious.

The reception was very friendly. I didn't have any lunch reservations, and everything went smoothly and quickly. I wasn't sure what to order, but the waiter gave me a great recommendation.

The service was consistently friendly, attentive, and professional. The staff not only had a smile on their faces, but were also able to provide competent advice on the selection. Special requests were implemented without discussion, and with a matter-of-factness that is rarely experienced. The food: The sushi was simply outstanding. Fresh, perfectly tempered, and each roll was artfully presented. You can tell that they use high-quality ingredients. I would particularly like to highlight the signature rolls – creative, flavorfully balanced, and a real experience. The fish was also of top-notch quality – incomparable to what you'd get at many other sushi restaurants. The appetizers and side dishes were also of a very high standard. Everything was freshly prepared and perfectly seasoned. A lot of attention to detail was also shown in the visual aspect – every dish was a little eye-catcher. The prices are absolutely justified for the quality offered. If you love sushi and value authentic craftsmanship, Umami Sushi is the place for you. I will definitely be back – and will recommend this place without reservation. A somewhat over-hyped place. Sushi was tasty but more expensive than the standard, but the taste wasn't really that great. The beef fillet was small, arrived dry and cold, and was more well-done than medium. The ramen soup was embarrassing, considering it's always served like that; it tasted like boiled water with no seasoning and far too little in it (vegetables, meat, etc.). Hopefully it was just a bad day for the kitchen, otherwise it would have been unnecessarily overpriced. The service was super friendly.

The food is excellent, and there's no long wait. The service is fast and attentive, and the price-performance ratio is also good. Since the restaurant is very busy, it's rather noisy, but the atmosphere is still pleasant. Given the high turnover, you can also assume that the raw fish is always freshly prepared. The place is generally very clean, and hygiene is a top priority.

I'm very disappointed... I supposedly got an ice-cold rib eye that weighed 300g! No way... I've been a restaurateur for 15 years, and that was a maximum of 200g! Never again!

Mediocre sushi for a high price.

First of all, the food is really great! The sushi is really delicious. The drink selection is great. The staff is usually friendly, but on one of our last visits, a woman who served us made some rather inappropriate comments. We each ordered two courses: starter, main course, and we wanted to share dessert. As I was ordering, I received the first comment about the number of dishes. When I mentioned that we would like to share dessert, I got a strange look and the reply, "That would be a good idea too." Well, I took it with humor. Then when I wanted to order drinks, I was asked if I wouldn't prefer water. The look and the comment were quite unpleasant. I never saw the woman again after that. The food was really delicious, and the rest of the staff were always super friendly. The atmosphere was great! Definitely worth a visit.

A first-class sushi evening – vegetarian, creative, and truly delicious! I went to Umami – Sushi & Grill in Konstanz with my girls, and we were thrilled. Although the restaurant is located in the heart of the city, it was pleasantly quiet and a very pleasant place to sit. We ordered exclusively vegetarian sushi and were completely satisfied. For starters, we had edamame (my favorite) and seaweed salad, which was also delicious. We tried a variety of sushi: avocado maki, a deep-fried roll with avocado, seeds, and raisins (an absolute highlight!), a mozzarella roll, a soy roll with pistachio cream, and a mango chili roll. For dessert, we shared two desserts: a super chocolatey brownie with mango ice cream (my favorite!) and a cheesecake with sorbet, pistachios, and fresh strawberries – simply delicious. The homemade lemonade was also delicious, and the staff were consistently friendly and attentive. The price of approximately €40 per person (including appetizers, sushi, dessert, and drinks) was absolutely justified for the quality. Conclusion: A real insider tip for anyone who loves vegetarian sushi, creative, flavorful, and prepared with lots of love. Highly recommended!

Great! Great food and perfect service.

I went there with my friends (4 people in total) and we ordered the biggest sushi set plus some soups and starters and everything was delicious! The staff is also quite friendly and even though the place was full to the brim, we didn't have to wait long for our orders to be served. Especially the ramen and sushi were great. I'm pretty sure we will visit this place some more.

Ate there with the family. Sushi, there was something for everyone. Gluten-free food is no problem. Overall, everything was very good.

The service has deteriorated, it takes a long time to serve and orders are missed. Also, it looks like the owner is not paying a proper salary. The servers are looking for a minimum of 10% tip with no option to avoid it. Should I go next time is a question. A restaurant which I used to love a few months back.

We followed the reviews to visit this restaurant. Firstly, when we tried to reserve dinner at 6.30pm, we were told that only 5.30pm was possible. When we arrived, it wasn't as packed as we thought it'll be. So we thought, maybe later. However, throughout our meal, and until we left at about 7pm, there were many tables that were empty, so I failed to understand why our original request for 6.30pm didn't work for them. The sushi's generally good, but the lemon grass drink we ordered tasted very diluted. We asked and the waiter said it's because it was less sugar, for health. In any case, it didn't taste good. It was also very expensive. We could've had the same food for half the price in another city in Germany. So if you are for good sushi with a value for money price point, avoid this place.

Overall, the sashimi was poor, not fresh, and lacked flavor. The service was friendly and quick, routinely avoiding the question of whether everything was okay. A lot of money for bad food.

We sat outside and ate our food. Plenty of seating inside and out. The sushi was super freshly prepared and delicious. We had beef and chicken. Large selection of drinks and wine. Friendly service! Highly recommended.

The waiter gave me a glass that was already there but he needed the clean glasses from inside for the rest of my group and the other waiter was very nice but his clothes were really dirty.

Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with my visit to Sushi & Grill. The food didn't taste great at all – both the sushi and the hot dishes seemed carelessly prepared and were far below what you'd expect from a restaurant in this price range. What bothered me most, however, was the behavior when paying. Tipping was clearly expected – the payment method was designed in such a way that you essentially had no choice but to give something. I believe tipping should be a voluntary acknowledgement for good service, not something you're practically forced to give. I decide for myself whether to give something or not – and in this case, I honestly would have preferred not to. Overall, unfortunately, I can't recommend it. There are definitely better alternatives in Konstanz.

Bottomless steak! NO RECOMMENDATION!!! Unfortunately, we were fooled by the (from the outside) nice-looking ambiance. First of all, I wouldn't have expected my Spritz to come in a plastic glass in this setting. We opted for a ribeye and a rump steak. First, the wrong steak arrived, despite the server taking the correct order. When the correct steak arrived, the cooking level was completely off. The quality of the meat was abysmal and I would describe it as very tough and marbled. It's best to take it off the menu if you can't cook it.

- udon noodle teryaki was absolutely miserably bad (sorry) - waiter argues is always like that. - The main course comes even though you are still eating the starter. Not recommended.

I've been to Umami in Konstanz several times now and every time I'm completely impressed, not only by the excellent sushi, but especially by the service! I would particularly like to highlight the employee Enis, who is by far one of the friendliest, most attentive and warmest people I have ever encountered in the catering industry. He served us with real enthusiasm, was always available, had great recommendations and made sure that we felt completely at home. You can just tell that he does his job with passion. The food? Fresh, creative, perfectly prepared and tasty. The ambience? Modern, cozy and stylish. But Enis’ service was the absolute highlight! Thank you for the great evening, we will definitely be back (especially because of Enis!).

Umami Consistency – our impression: The four of us enjoyed appetizers and the Yokohama platter – fresh, tasty, plentiful. The sashimi lagged behind the rest in terms of taste, but everything else was convincing. The service was top: friendly, attentive, well dressed. You can sit comfortably outside in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city. Even vegetarians who don't enjoy fish will find a really good selection. In short: Beautiful, tasty, relaxed - clear recommendation with small drawbacks.

The three of us were seated at a table for two and two people were seated next to us at a table for four. The waiters didn't really listen to you. We didn't even have enough cutlery because they forgot to give it to us.

We love the food at Umami in Konstanz – the taste is really great! Unfortunately, we had problems with the space situation on every visit, even with prior reservations. This time too, there was no table available when we arrived despite a reservation. The receptionist reacted completely indifferently and showed no understanding for our situation. After waiting for a while we were offered a high table that was absolutely unsuitable for four people. As an alternative, we should sit down in the neighboring restaurant and order from there - although with a limited selection. It's a shame, because the food is really good, but the repeated organizational deficiencies and lack of service spoil the experience so much that we probably won't come back in the future.

The first time everything was good. Had sushi and stuff like that. Today, however, I almost fell off my chair. 26 euros for a small piece of salmon, not even properly cooked, with a leek and some indefinable vegetable. And then so little that you have to order at least 3 times to get full. I have no idea what that's about. Then I ate something real at the lake. Everything is fresh, service is friendly and nice - everything is okay. But I've definitely eaten better and richer salmon, recently for 4 euros more with plenty of asparagus and potatoes. Everyone has to know for themselves.

We ate in this restaurant today. We were allowed to eat outside without a reservation, as only reserved guests were seated inside, which didn't bother us. The service was a bit irritating to us, everyone seemed a bit groggy and confused, but everyone was very friendly to us, even if we found the table numbers almost inappropriate in such a high-quality restaurant (but that's definitely not a negative point). Our drinks were very tasty and can only be recommended to everyone. Both the yuzu mojito and the lemongrass iced tea were so good that we can say they were the best respective drinks we've tried so far. The food came quickly and looked more than fantastic. We had the “Yokohama” platter, which is actually intended for three people, but we ate it for two. Each individual component was a dream in itself, there was enough wasabi and ginger and the fish was definitely fresh. We were particularly impressed by the tuna and it melted in our mouths. This restaurant will definitely be our favorite restaurant in Konstanz. Thanks for the good food!

The taste of the food was okay - fresh and quite tasty - but for me personally nothing special or outstanding. The place was very full, which of course speaks for its popularity, but unfortunately also meant that everything seemed a bit hectic. If you want to eat sushi quickly and easily, this might be the right place for you - for a cozy dinner I would personally choose something different.

Unfortunately, when we were there you couldn't eat outside in the evening. The sushi was super tasty. But the ramen is better in the new offshoot “Wabisabi”!

The food came quickly, I had beef fillet with fries, the fillet was great, the fries weren't that crispy. The drinks were very good and beautifully presented, the staff was friendly and present. The sushi is also recommended.

The good thing first, the food was excellent. Unfortunately, the starter came with the main course and they kept trying to bring us beers we didn't order, one of which actually ended up on the bill.

It was a very surprising experience. The ambience inside was great, very warm, and the staff was friendly and tolerant. Until the sushi came. We ordered three different sushi and all three were bad. We were very surprised how such beautiful looking sushi could taste so bad. Either they weren't fresh or they were left too long. Report to eat. The tuna sashimi was very dry and fell apart when I chewed it. It was like fine sandpaper, polishing my tongue. The chrunchy rolls are very solid and have a hard texture. They are not as good as the crispy sushi next to kufland. The tuna is half-cooked and tastes like chicken. Homemade icetea and lemonade are concentrated fruit flavors and water, and the only homemade part is the ice cubes inside.

I honestly don't understand the good reviews. The lemongrass & peach ice tea taste of little to nothing. Our sushi arrived with a lot of delay, only after asking & then it was very hard with packed rice. Overall not recommended.

The world's best sushi in the world. The staff is always nice and courteous, especially the Albanian service professionals. It's been our favorite restaurant for years :) here are a few photos from some of our visits. The KIMCHI salad is awesome!!! But the "homemade" iced tea is really disgusting, water with syrup. No lemon slice, no mint, nothing inside. I had to send it away twice.

We ate here with 4 people and ordered a lot of sushi. Everything was tasty, nothing was left over. Prices are fair and the portions are big enough. The only thing that didn't convince us was the Spicy Edamame starter. These were kind of boring

I have been visiting this sushi restaurant regularly for over a year and it is recommended. The sushi menu is updated from time to time and the selection is excellent. There is something for everyone and the quality of the sushi is great too. The ambience is cozy because the style of the restaurant contributes to it. The sushi creation Crunchy Roll 2.0 is our absolute favorite and we hope it stays on the menu. Unfortunately there is a 1 star deduction. Because, on the one hand, the “Tokyo pizza” starter is no longer available and you can’t make a reservation for lunch. I've always been lucky for 2 people but with 4 people or more it could be difficult.
