Best restaurant in Konstanz, top menu & service 10/10!

We followed the reviews to visit this restaurant. Firstly, when we tried to reserve dinner at 6.30pm, we were told that only 5.30pm was possible. When we arrived, it wasn't as packed as we thought it'll be. So we thought, maybe later. However, throughout our meal, and until we left at about 7pm, there were many tables that were empty, so I failed to understand why our original request for 6.30pm didn't work for them. The sushi's generally good, but the lemon grass drink we ordered tasted very diluted. We asked and the waiter said it's because it was less sugar, for health. In any case, it didn't taste good. It was also very expensive. We could've had the same food for half the price in another city in Germany. So if you are for good sushi with a value for money price point, avoid this place.

Overall, the sashimi was poor, not fresh, and lacked flavor. The service was friendly and quick, routinely avoiding the question of whether everything was okay. A lot of money for bad food.

We sat at a table where other people were already seated. We spent the entire evening cold because the window was leaky, letting the cold in. That was a real shame. The sushi was very good and the service was friendly.

We sat outside and ate our food. Plenty of seating inside and out. The sushi was super freshly prepared and delicious. We had beef and chicken. Large selection of drinks and wine. Friendly service! Highly recommended.

The waiter gave me a glass that was already there but he needed the clean glasses from inside for the rest of my group and the other waiter was very nice but his clothes were really dirty.

We stopped by for a quick bite to eat this summer. It was delicious. The service and atmosphere were very cool.

Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with my visit to Sushi & Grill. The food didn't taste great at all – both the sushi and the hot dishes seemed carelessly prepared and were far below what you'd expect from a restaurant in this price range. What bothered me most, however, was the behavior when paying. Tipping was clearly expected – the payment method was designed in such a way that you essentially had no choice but to give something. I believe tipping should be a voluntary acknowledgement for good service, not something you're practically forced to give. I decide for myself whether to give something or not – and in this case, I honestly would have preferred not to. Overall, unfortunately, I can't recommend it. There are definitely better alternatives in Konstanz.

Bottomless steak! NO RECOMMENDATION!!! Unfortunately, we were fooled by the (from the outside) nice-looking ambiance. First of all, I wouldn't have expected my Spritz to come in a plastic glass in this setting. We opted for a ribeye and a rump steak. First, the wrong steak arrived, despite the server taking the correct order. When the correct steak arrived, the cooking level was completely off. The quality of the meat was abysmal and I would describe it as very tough and marbled. It's best to take it off the menu if you can't cook it.

- udon noodle teryaki was absolutely miserably bad (sorry) - waiter argues is always like that. - The main course comes even though you are still eating the starter. Not recommended.

Sushi was hard and didn't seem fresh. The waiter forgot about us several times even though we called.

The three of us were seated at a table for two and two people were seated next to us at a table for four. The waiters didn't really listen to you. We didn't even have enough cutlery because they forgot to give it to us.

Umami Consistency – our impression: The four of us enjoyed appetizers and the Yokohama platter – fresh, tasty, plentiful. The sashimi lagged behind the rest in terms of taste, but everything else was convincing. The service was top: friendly, attentive, well dressed. You can sit comfortably outside in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city. Even vegetarians who don't enjoy fish will find a really good selection. In short: Beautiful, tasty, relaxed - clear recommendation with small drawbacks.

I've been to Umami in Konstanz several times now and every time I'm completely impressed, not only by the excellent sushi, but especially by the service! I would particularly like to highlight the employee Enis, who is by far one of the friendliest, most attentive and warmest people I have ever encountered in the catering industry. He served us with real enthusiasm, was always available, had great recommendations and made sure that we felt completely at home. You can just tell that he does his job with passion. The food? Fresh, creative, perfectly prepared and tasty. The ambience? Modern, cozy and stylish. But Enis’ service was the absolute highlight! Thank you for the great evening, we will definitely be back (especially because of Enis!).

We love the food at Umami in Konstanz – the taste is really great! Unfortunately, we had problems with the space situation on every visit, even with prior reservations. This time too, there was no table available when we arrived despite a reservation. The receptionist reacted completely indifferently and showed no understanding for our situation. After waiting for a while we were offered a high table that was absolutely unsuitable for four people. As an alternative, we should sit down in the neighboring restaurant and order from there - although with a limited selection. It's a shame, because the food is really good, but the repeated organizational deficiencies and lack of service spoil the experience so much that we probably won't come back in the future.

I can recommend the food is very good but you should reconsider the drinks and use less chemicals and sugar otherwise it was good. Very friendly staff

The first time everything was good. Had sushi and stuff like that. Today, however, I almost fell off my chair. 26 euros for a small piece of salmon, not even properly cooked, with a leek and some indefinable vegetable. And then so little that you have to order at least 3 times to get full. I have no idea what that's about. Then I ate something real at the lake. Everything is fresh, service is friendly and nice - everything is okay. But I've definitely eaten better and richer salmon, recently for 4 euros more with plenty of asparagus and potatoes. Everyone has to know for themselves.

We ate in this restaurant today. We were allowed to eat outside without a reservation, as only reserved guests were seated inside, which didn't bother us. The service was a bit irritating to us, everyone seemed a bit groggy and confused, but everyone was very friendly to us, even if we found the table numbers almost inappropriate in such a high-quality restaurant (but that's definitely not a negative point). Our drinks were very tasty and can only be recommended to everyone. Both the yuzu mojito and the lemongrass iced tea were so good that we can say they were the best respective drinks we've tried so far. The food came quickly and looked more than fantastic. We had the “Yokohama” platter, which is actually intended for three people, but we ate it for two. Each individual component was a dream in itself, there was enough wasabi and ginger and the fish was definitely fresh. We were particularly impressed by the tuna and it melted in our mouths. This restaurant will definitely be our favorite restaurant in Konstanz. Thanks for the good food!

The taste of the food was okay - fresh and quite tasty - but for me personally nothing special or outstanding. The place was very full, which of course speaks for its popularity, but unfortunately also meant that everything seemed a bit hectic. If you want to eat sushi quickly and easily, this might be the right place for you - for a cozy dinner I would personally choose something different.

Ambience: Lots of people, a bit cramped Service: long waiting times, bring everything on one plate without asking, which doesn't always fit. The waiter asked for a tip 😳, which I thought was cheeky 😂 so there wasn't one Food: Sushi very good 👍

Unfortunately, when we were there you couldn't eat outside in the evening. The sushi was super tasty. But the ramen is better in the new offshoot “Wabisabi”!

The food came quickly, I had beef fillet with fries, the fillet was great, the fries weren't that crispy. The drinks were very good and beautifully presented, the staff was friendly and present. The sushi is also recommended.

It was a very surprising experience. The ambience inside was great, very warm, and the staff was friendly and tolerant. Until the sushi came. We ordered three different sushi and all three were bad. We were very surprised how such beautiful looking sushi could taste so bad. Either they weren't fresh or they were left too long. Report to eat. The tuna sashimi was very dry and fell apart when I chewed it. It was like fine sandpaper, polishing my tongue. The chrunchy rolls are very solid and have a hard texture. They are not as good as the crispy sushi next to kufland. The tuna is half-cooked and tastes like chicken. Homemade icetea and lemonade are concentrated fruit flavors and water, and the only homemade part is the ice cubes inside.

I honestly don't understand the good reviews. The lemongrass & peach ice tea taste of little to nothing. Our sushi arrived with a lot of delay, only after asking & then it was very hard with packed rice. Overall not recommended.

The world's best sushi in the world. The staff is always nice and courteous, especially the Albanian service professionals. It's been our favorite restaurant for years :) here are a few photos from some of our visits. The KIMCHI salad is awesome!!! But the "homemade" iced tea is really disgusting, water with syrup. No lemon slice, no mint, nothing inside. I had to send it away twice.

We ate here with 4 people and ordered a lot of sushi. Everything was tasty, nothing was left over. Prices are fair and the portions are big enough. The only thing that didn't convince us was the Spicy Edamame starter. These were kind of boring

I have been visiting this sushi restaurant regularly for over a year and it is recommended. The sushi menu is updated from time to time and the selection is excellent. There is something for everyone and the quality of the sushi is great too. The ambience is cozy because the style of the restaurant contributes to it. The sushi creation Crunchy Roll 2.0 is our absolute favorite and we hope it stays on the menu. Unfortunately there is a 1 star deduction. Because, on the one hand, the “Tokyo pizza” starter is no longer available and you can’t make a reservation for lunch. I've always been lucky for 2 people but with 4 people or more it could be difficult.

It sometimes took a while before we were served and at times we felt a little ignored. However, the staff was polite and helpful when they were there. Overall it was a pleasant visit with good food and a convenient location. With a little more attentive service the experience could be even better!

Great service, atmosphere and food

Hello Umami Team, We had lunch with you today (not for the first time), but unfortunately, we weren't satisfied. The staff was friendly, but they didn't ask if everything was okay or if we needed anything else. Even after the meal, the plates remained on the table for about 30 minutes and weren't cleared. As long as it was the first order, everything went super quickly, but then it was less so. We had the Ribeye for €36.50 with a side dish and the Lucky Duck for just under €30.00 (relatively one of the more expensive à la carte dishes on the menu). The meat had a lot of tendons and a lot of fat (most of the meat was left on the plate, even then, no one asked...) The duck was unfortunately quite dry. It's a shame, since we often come for sushi (which is really good) and wanted to try the à la carte option. At €60.00 per person, it was a disappointment. Best regards

A super great restaurant. You feel comfortable as a guest, the hospitality is very good. The food is fresh and very good. The beef fillet was awesome. I can't recommend the fries, they were too sweet and not crispy. One point bothered me about this restaurant, which is really good and recommended, and that was the toilet. No toilet paper, no towels. Otherwise very dirty, the walls were spattered and it smelled like a rest stop toilet. Otherwise it's great as a restaurant, I'll go again.

I just ordered online and it wasn't a small order. I would have liked chopsticks and soy sauce, but unfortunately they didn't come with it... otherwise the taste with your fingers was very good 😂

If you are looking for a quiet, cozy evening in a restaurant, you have come to the wrong place. Massively overpopulated, so much so that you have to vacate the place after 2 hours for the next ones, it was nothing for me.

Sushi was good (recommendation: Tempura Prawn Inside Out Rolls). The service was very nice, fast and reliable. The restaurant was packed, which noticeably reduced the feel-good factor in the otherwise nice restaurant. At least the five of us got a place straight away, even without a reservation. In terms of price, the umami is relatively high, a bit too high in the overall price-performance mix.

Food top varied and had a nice evening

Loved the atmosphere there, it looked nice and the food was good but I was expecting a little bit more for the price that we paid. Also the reservation was for a birthday but they forgot about it and had to ask again. Everything else was amazing.

One thing in advance: the service and the ambience were good. The food, however, was average at best. To be honest, we were surprised at the good reviews afterwards: the food was mediocre at best, if at all. The fish was slightly fishy, ​​the roe was almost inedible. It's a shame, because the prices are above the level of good sushi restaurants in Japan Town in Düsseldorf or Frankfurt, to name just a few examples. It's probably because of the proximity to Switzerland, but we definitely wouldn't eat here again.

It wasn't our first time at umani Konstanz, but it had been a long time... As expected, the staff were attentive and friendly. The grilled meat was very tasty, as were the grilled vegetables and all the side dishes, and for sushi, I don't know of anything better... absolutely recommended!

I often ate at Umami. Very good sushi! I ordered a pork steak once in the summer, but it was bloody. The waiter said it could be bloody. I worked as a chef for two years and completed training. And as a chef you know that pork should under NO circumstances be bloody. Slightly pink, yes, but never bloody. Therefore 3 stars for the food because of the risk of salmonella and the wrong advice from the waiter. Otherwise really excellent food and great mochi.

Starter: Wakame Salad & Gyoza & Edamame Main course: Iberico & Men’s Cut Plus red wine and rosé. Quality, taste and appearance were very good. The waiting time was short. The service is professional, friendly and uncomplicated. All in all, a restaurant that is very suitable for an upscale dinner. 👍 The prices are accordingly. 😉

The sushi is and remains one of the best I have ever eaten. However, the service wasn't that attentive each time - at least we may have caught this service. Nevertheless, you have the best sushi far and wide on Lake Constance! In my opinion.

The sushi is highly recommended and it came quickly. The restaurant is not too loud and has a slightly more unusual ambience.

A beautiful and cozy place in the very center of the city, within walking distance from the station and the coastline. The service and interior are up to par, but the food was disappointing. The chicken in chili sauce is absolutely no good, the sushi looks like it came straight from the refrigerator. At the same time, everything is quite expensive.

Beautiful modern japanese restaurant in the old town of Konstanz. Both the sushi and soup we ordered were really delicious. Our waiter was friendly. Good for groups, couples, families or singles.

A lot of charm is lost due to the timing of table reservations on Friday evening (6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., 8:00 p.m. - open). Last Friday around 7:50 p.m. we were asked to hurry up because the next guests were already waiting outside. It makes sense if you plan like that, but apart from optimizing profits it doesn't do much good. Relaxing there with friends Eating is no longer an option. Especially since the service was no longer as good as in the past. For example, sushi and fillet were brought to one person at the same time. We couldn't order dessert due to time constraints, so we went to Il Boccone, where the service was better and we were only allowed to sit for dessert and drinks as long as we wanted.

Went to the Christmas party with a group, which was also communicated beforehand when making the reservation. When we arrived we were told we would have the table for a maximum of 2 hours because new guests would arrive. The whole time we were eating we were checking to see when we were going to make sure the table was free again. If I want fast food then I go to McDonalds. Steak itself was delicious and fried in point. But the atmosphere was really bad. Especially at that price, I expect something different.

I'm writing this review again because the stars from my first, but corrected, unfortunately were NOT changed DOWN! I visited the restaurant for the first time three months ago and everything was perfect. I had a lady steak, served with an excellent hot sauce and polenta. Shrimp in tempura batter as a starter. I was very impressed with everything and thought I had found a good new location. Recently I went again. Unfortunately an absolute fiasco!!! I order another fillet, this time - in anticipation because of the good memory - 250g. I wanted the same sauce with it. At that time the employee asked me if I wanted herb butter, and then this great sauce came in a small pan. So I order the same thing and explained everything in detail. Then I wanted to try the fries. After a long wait the food came. What a FIASCO!!! Everything served on a lukewarm slate plate: Filet unseasoned, fibrous, partly charred on the outside. Sauce cold, almost frozen - completely different than I remembered! The fries... I have NEVER been presented with anything like this in over 70 years: they were all soft, literally bent and stuck to each other!!! An absolute disgrace!!! They want €40 for something like that!!! This shop should be closed because something like this is an unparalleled imposition!!! The service employee was probably trying hard and offered me free coffee, but towards the evening I didn't want to drink anything like that anymore. The stars I gave are for you!!! You should be able to give MINUS stars for this restaurant!!! ....maybe that cold fish - sushi - is ok. I don't eat that. But steak - no thanks! You can eat much better food anywhere and at different prices. I don't have to travel from Switzerland to do this either! I actually wanted to try there again tomorrow - after informing the owner - but I'll probably leave it alone - the disappointment was too great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Uami is a very tasty restaurant in Konstanz! The service is great and newbies to sushi get great advice, it tastes really delicious!!! The meat in the main course was cooked to the desired point, the only complaint was the fries…..unfortunately not enough…..we were put off with a delicious schnapps……!!! We'd love to come back, but we won't be ordering any more fries... unfortunately they don't taste good at all!!! Best regards Urs Bachmann

A restaurant that has been established for years with an exciting food paring: Steak & Sushi. The food was good, sufficient but unfortunately nothing special for the price. Therefore: it was nice, but no, not in the future. You can also get this at other prices with the same quality.

Always delicious! The service is sometimes a bit slow or uncoordinated, but we're not on the run ;-) and the excellent (sometimes a bit unusual) sushi is worth every visit.

Wurden abgewiesen an der Tür weil der Laden zu voll wäre. Laden war aber komplett leer. Total verdiente 3.5 sterne. Rassisssten??!!!!!!

The food is great but the service horrible. The menu had a broken pice and the waitress by mistake thrown the menu in the top of the glass cup. The glass almost went through my fiancé’s eyes, and we are just 10 days before our wedding! I asked the waitress to check all the menus before to see if the others had the metal broken as well and he got mad and rude at me, he said, move away of this table for me to clean the glass or “get out of here”. It was a very traumatic experience for us! I called the manager expecting him to do something nice for us, change us to a better sit, or a discount considering and scared experience due to the negligence of the broken menu, But the manager hasn’t done anything to improve the client's impressions.

The food is amazing, we were 2 guests and we ordered 2 pokebowls, a sakura roll to share, a Water and two drinks. However the waiter made a mistake and dropped part of the broken Beverages menu on to my drinking glass, which then broke into pieces. We were ofcourse startled and scared, because the glass shards went almost into my eyes. This is serious, due to negligence in part of the maintenance of the menue, my eyes and my fisncé‘s were at risk to be lost. The waiter was then also unfriendly to my fiancé. He said either move or go out of here. We then askes to see the manager, but then it was like nothing happened. The manager was friendly and the other waiters too, but the treatment from the waiter that broke the glass damaged our atmosphere and vibes. We were there before and enjoyed it once with another couple, but know we wont remember it the same anymore after this time. The food is amazing though, however, it doesn‘t feel worth this Treatment.

Actually tip top. A mix of sushi and Staek House. The food is very good, although not authentically Japanese. The staff are very friendly, not always professional but with common sense. What bothers me a little, however, is that when the boss/owner sits in the restaurant, he obviously and constantly controls his employees closely - every movement. It could be more inconspicuous, right? ....and relatively expensive, entirely aimed at the Swiss.

Very long wait and the meat was gray. Have never eaten so badly. Never again!

Sehr schöne Terrasse, das Essen war sehr gut. Besonders hervorzuhenen ist der tolle Service!! Sehr aufmerksam, unaufdringlich und sehr freundlich! Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt! Gerne wieder.
