Great food, prepared with a lot of love. Very large portions. Unfortunately, a disadvantage in 2024 is that you cannot pay with an EC or credit card. The operators have to come up with something.

On Tuesday at 12 p.m. we stood in front of closed doors. There was a note with the opening times on the notice board to the left of the entrance. E.g. on Tuesdays from 11 a.m.

We spent 3 days in Cologne, discovered the restaurant via Maps and were pleasantly surprised. Very tasty food, pleasantly friendly owners, cozy atmosphere and really reasonable prices. It's a shame we live so far away. Otherwise, a good tip for anyone who wants to have a relaxed meal after the hustle and bustle of Cologne.

Montanusstraße 1Are here for the second time now. The schnitzel was really good and the service was on point. Were well served here. The Gilden Kölsch is definitely unusual for a North German, but you also have to jump over your shadow. But I'd love to come back.

GürzenichstraßeA thoroughly successful evening with very good service (kudos to the blonde waiter), the food was great, very generous portions. The Mozart skewer is highly recommended, very good quality of the steaks and fillets. The Aperol Spritz got bigger and bigger and the pancakes became a poem. Unfortunately we come far too rarely but we always enjoy it.

Heumarkt 52Pub and bar hopping around the wonderful Huemarkt we decided to drop into Starnberger Alm and what a great find. Walking in and I knew I would enjoy my visit here, interior is superb, pine wood features abound throughout the tavern, wonderful decor and furnishings and plenty of seating options spread throughout this tavern both inside and outside looking out onto the busy and bustling Huemarkt that when we visited in late December was packed with the famous Huemarkt Christmas Market in full swing. We sat outside were we ordered their own brewed helles beer ,these were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling and we just kicked back and took in the great tavern we were in . My beer was really good, a golden, light and hoppy lager style beer bursting with taste and very easy to drink especially when served freezing cold as in this tavern, it was just so good being in such a lovely tavern enjoying a quality brew and sat with my twin brother, best beer companion in the world. We really enjoyed our beers in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting for a first time visit to Starnberger Alm we had a great time. Starnberger Alm is easy to locate on Huemarkt, in my opinion one of the most beautiful square's in Cologne. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday, open from midday. Well worth checking out if you're in the Old Town of Cologne.
