It's not a very big department store, but it sells outdoor wear, outdoor products, and even boats. It's very unique.

I've been a customer of this store for 30 years and I'm getting increasingly frustrated. Service is declining, advice is lacking, parking is only discounted with a customer card and above a certain turnover, and the store is looking increasingly like it needs renovation. I'm not going to continue to list it. But I don't like good old Tietz anymore. (I haven't been to Amazon since 2020)

If I had to give it a score, I would give Galeria Kaufhof Cologne Hohe Straße / Schildergasse 4 out of 5 stars. Who is it worth it for: • Those who value selection and convenience, rather than necessarily the cheapest price. • Those who want to buy a variety of products in one store and appreciate a central location. • Those who enjoy browsing, looking at fashion, searching for accessories, etc. On the other hand, if you're very price-conscious or want to do your shopping quickly, discount stores, specialty shops, or online retailers are often more efficient.

Big choice of quality clothing. Interior is old. floors, walls and toilets do need an upgrade.

Very good store Large aisles and a wide selection. Not too crowded, neat and tidy. With customer restrooms and a dedicated parking lot, you can shop in peace.

I like all Galerias Kaufhof, especially the restaurants serving German cuisine, and I liked the one in Cologne.

Unfortunately, many stores are ruining the Kaufhof. There will probably be no memories of the past, when it was so busy. A lot of things are broken, including toilet doors and escalators. And no investment is being made either. That's a real shame.

It was very nice, but I didn't like that the restrooms were closed overnight. The price was too expensive for that.

We spent a total of almost €400. Unfortunately, the daily discounts weren't stored in the POS system, so we had to pay at several checkouts on different floors. The cashier at the last checkout on the ground floor was extremely unfriendly – ​​only because she apparently only gets paid until 8 p.m., which isn't my fault. When I pointed out that as a customer, you can expect to be served a little later than 8 p.m. if the opening hours are listed as 8 p.m., she became even more rude. We had to line up at the checkout beforehand, which we would have done even if the POS systems were set to the discounts. I explained to her that I also have to work on weekends or Sundays when customers call. She simply replied that I would earn more. The fact that I had studied for a longer period of time for this didn't interest her. In the end, she was the first to leave the store. This begs the question: Why does anyone even work in retail if they don't enjoy dealing with customers, after all, they're paid with customer money?

There are many offers, some even better than online.

Yesterday, I received very good, detailed advice from a salesperson from Bonn who is still on probation. This salesperson was hired specifically for Bench Olsen fashion. I quickly acquired several blouses and a designer jacket. I've been going to Galeria for decades—as has my entire family—and we get everything we need there, from electronics to shoes and cosmetics. The men's restroom was so filthy that as a man, you wouldn't even go there, no matter which store you went to. I prefer a portable toilet. The rest of the store was otherwise fine. There are so many employees at the various sales stations who have nothing to do. The employee at Marburger Uhrenservice was completely overwhelmed by so many inquiries, and then the unprofessional announcement: "We're not from Kaufhof." Even if you have to break new ground in retail these days, it's a management challenge not only to control costs, but also to offer a service and quality offering that emphasizes the feeling of a shopping experience. Otherwise, I don't believe there's any way to counteract online shopping, which would be a disaster for our city center here in Cologne and elsewhere. It's a large gallery, with sections on each floor dedicated to men, women, children, etc. The top floor usually has the best deals. They sell top-brand products, and the atmosphere is nice. You never feel confined. I wish it had windows that opened to the outside.

A must for me on every visit to Cologne, time permitting. The selection is huge and it's simply fun to browse through the department store. I would particularly like to highlight the sports department, which has a large selection of Brooks running shoes. In terms of selection, Galeria Cologne can compete with specialist retailers. You do have to go up to the 3rd floor, but it's worth it. There is currently a bargain market on the 4th floor. Yesterday I was able to find some great bargains during the sale. For one thing, there were beautiful shoes on sale, and in the hosiery department there was an additional 50% discount on a large number of already reduced-price socks for orders of 5 or more pairs. I don't really need socks, but I couldn't resist the offer because there were some really nice socks. It's definitely worth a visit and the variety of products is impressive. In the atrium in the middle of the ground floor, different interesting items are set up every now and then. The household goods world and delicatessen in the basement are also very nice.

There are fewer and fewer new items, especially in men's fashion. Some pieces have been available for three to four years.

Only 3 stars because I'm incredibly annoyed by the outrageously high parking fees. If you want customers back, then make parking cheaper. There are certain age groups that can no longer take the train. I had to park for 1.5 hours, even though I bought something for 180 euros, and still pay 5.50 euros. That's unacceptable.

Restaurant overpriced no price-performance ratio

Many of the electronics in this store are defective. I bought a Casio watch that was already broken in the store – the display wasn't working properly. Within ten minutes, I showed the defect to several salespeople. Instead of taking the problem seriously, I was told that the watch needed to be "charged under the sun" first. This was nonsense, however, because the watch wasn't solar-powered. They simply tried to force me out of the store without offering a solution. In the end, they only offered to replace the battery at my own expense – which I, of course, declined. Conclusion: Be careful and buy electronics from trustworthy retailers. GALERIA sells defective products, and customer service seems to be a foreign concept.

There were many patterns and sizes of short-sleeved non-iron shirts with pockets, so I purchased one.

It's incomprehensible that Galeria charges 50 cents to use the restroom – even if you shop there. In times when online shopping offers a convenient alternative, brick-and-mortar retailers should focus on customer service instead of creating additional hurdles. Furthermore, the employee who oversees the restrooms in the restaurant area was unfortunately extremely unfriendly. Friendliness and respectful behavior should be a given, especially when dealing with customers.

This department store feels dated and urgently needs to be modernized. Otherwise, it won't stand a chance against its online competitors. The staff is friendly and attentive.

Pleasant branch of the Galeria department store chain. When I visited a few years ago, this branch once had about 5 floors and was huge. During my current visit I noticed that this branch had been shortened (i.e. thinned out) by 2 floors. Nevertheless, the offer is still diverse. Only the prices are a bit in the upper segment. Nevertheless, a visit here is worth it.

There was a customer in front of me with whom the employee was talking about a vacation on Lake Constance. After being ignored for 2 minutes, I left. Without service, no order. On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, we visited a sporting goods store to buy soccer shoes for my son. There were few customers in the store at this time, and two salespeople, a man and a woman, were chatting near the shoe rack. Despite our obvious presence, none of them asked if we needed assistance. We decided to independently shortlist two pairs of shoes and try them on in two sizes each. While we were busy with the second pair, the salesperson complained loudly about how impossible some people were, that we had made a "mess" and weren't cleaning up. This unprofessional response left a negative impression and significantly diminished our purchasing experience. We put the 2nd pair away and left without buying anything.

Today my wife and I were shopping for underwear. The female consultant did not allow me to be near the fitting room. She said it was only for women. I think this is terrible service.

Unfortunately I can only give one star. It's no longer the department store you would think of knew. Far too dark on the sales floor. Bored and sometimes unfriendly employees. Out of four employees, only one person said hello back. My question about where to find something was answered with "phew, I have no idea." Very unfortunate :-(

I like to go to the champagne bar down there on Saturdays. It's cult and part of it. A visit to the Galeria is also part of this detour. I believe the bar is open Thursday - Saturday from 2 p.m. Give it a try.

Unfortunately, the Kaufhof is downsizing more and more, which is not surprising since almost nothing is being done to remain competitive, especially with regard to online shopping. The prices leave a lot to be desired, despite various offers. This is regularly evident in the perfume department. Despite discounts, the items are more expensive than the competition. But the winner was a current campaign in the stockings department. From five reduced items onwards there will be a further 20% discount. At the checkout you will be informed that six items are required, because five or more means six. And I'm not the first customer who "misunderstood" it. Are you serious??? How many customers then give in and buy the products anyway because they are completely taken by surprise. By the way, it would also be a suggestion to make the entrance doors barrier-free. We have often seen wheelchair users as well as customers with walking aids and rollators having problems here.
