The restaurant is located near the Cologne Cathedral.  The outdoor terrace is shielded from the many passers-by, which enhances the private atmosphere.  We were helped by a very patient waiter who helped us make a suitable lunch choice with his excellent advice. The goat cheese salad was perfect on a warm sunny day. Despite the crowds, service was quick and with a smile.

The food was excellent. However, the service staff does not match the high quality food. Apart from that, we find begging for tips extremely unpleasant.

The restaurant couldn't convince us either! Unfortunately the burger wasn't tasty, the waiter was a bit confused and the billing was wrong! But then he corrected it again. We sat outside...since it is very central to the cathedral there is a lot of traffic and crowds. We didn’t feel comfortable, it’s a shame!

Beautiful place if you want to relax in the city center near the Rhine. Courteous service, good food and drinks selection. Safe from the burning sun under large umbrellas. And as the name suggests, there is a museum there too.

My husband and I had lunch outside for the first time before visiting the museum and we were very impressed by everything, especially the view and the surroundings. After two days we came to a pampering breakfast. My expectation was that we would start eating breakfast straight away, as the opening time of 10 a.m. is rather late for breakfast. By the time we got our breakfast platter it was 10.38. It was beautifully decorated, but the quality of the contents was totally mediocre for me, the egg was overcooked, the bread wasn't entirely fresh. The service was friendly and tried to create a good atmosphere.

Unfortunately, the service in this restaurant was disappointing. Our waiter was inattentive and unfriendly. After we tipped anyway, there was neither a thank you nor a farewell. Overall a very unsatisfactory experience.

Food is good, prices are high but you can find a selection in every price range. A very friendly meeting place. You don't just go there once.

Delicious food and very nice service

Hello dear readers, A few days ago I had to pick up relatives from the main train station and decided to stop by this establishment while waiting. I was immediately served by a nice waiter and ordered scrambled eggs and pancakes. The food arrived after a pleasant time and was the taste explosion you expect from a good breakfast. Added to this is the unusual location of the location, as well as the ambience that is reminiscent of a vacation. I'm looking forward to coming back! breakfast greetings, P. Gustavsen

Actually a great atmosphere and a great menu, unfortunately we were served very rudely. That's a shame and of course ruins the most beautiful location.

We had an invitation today and had a fantastic breakfast. The waiter spoiled us with everything he could. Thank you very much. Scrambled eggs with salmon, a large portion for the set. Pancake with fruit, a sweet sin and absolutely worth eating. Be veggie, super delicious spreads, fine fresh cheese and a bread basket to go with everything. We were completely full and now want to have breakfast here regularly.

Bad restaurant experience. After visiting the museum, I wanted to sit down for a cup of coffee and some desserts. After entering the restaurant through the door on the side of the museum, I waited for a while but no one was taking my seat. So I walked to the outdoor seat and sat down. Later I observed that other guests seemed to have no one to take their table. Seat yourself. There were several service staff walking around, but no one paid any attention to me. I wonder if someone will stop me only if I start eating my own food at my seat? In the end I left the restaurant without ordering. This was the only restaurant in the entire trip to Germany that was puzzling.

A friend and I had dinner at Cafe Ludwig last night. Our table was ready and it was in a lovely spot by the window. The waiter made good dinner choice recommendations and the dish was wonderful in presentation and taste. We had planned to stay a while longer (the restaurant was not very busy anymore). The service personnel ignored us entirely. Maybe because we were sitting by the window and the tables in besides us were empty. We had already wondered why we had not been offered bread before or with our meal. After dinner we were not offered desert or coffee or another drink. After more than 30 minutes sitting there, we flagged down a server and ordered another drink. Even after that nobody even looked into our direction, until we got up and waved to signal we'd be ready for the bill. Really disappointing considering the place and food were very good.

Ludwigs is outstanding in terms of taste and the quality of the products. The service is always professional, very friendly and attentive.

Those working here were friendly, helpful, and spoke English. The vegetarian ravioli was very good. The atmosphere is pleasant. For patrons, some were meeting with friends and colleagues, travelers, workers on their computers or tablets, and individuals enjoying a coffee or meal.

I wasn't served for a good 10 minutes and left. I had already greeted one service person and made eye contact with another, but it was not returned. Any hint of imminent service would have made me wait even longer. I don't normally write bad reviews.

The acoustics worked very well and I was able to taste the beautiful dishes in peace. Speaking of costs, they were more expensive than a kebab around the corner, but here I simply had a delicious and inexpensive meal. Lots of selection of tarts and cakes for dessert. I liked the in-house coffee very much. I would like to come here again for that. And the service was very friendly. Extra star ;)

Extensive selection of creative dishes. Friendly staff. Large selection of cakes/tarts. Personally, the location is too “open” for me; somehow the “cozy” feeling was missing. But that's about all one could complain about. Prices are relatively high, but appropriate for the ingenuity and quality of the food.

Terrible attendance! They placed us at a table that was still dirty from other people's breakfast. We know that it is cultural to make reservations at the restaurant, but it is better not to accept customers who do not have a reservation as they will treat them differently/humiliatingly. In short, I have no intention of recommending or returning to this restaurant!

At first glance, a nice atmosphere. Unfortunately the staff is completely unambitious. The man/woman looks in our direction and then turns away into the depths of the room. Then not. Ohme order gone. Therefore no rating of the kitchen.

Diesmal leider ein Reinfall - ich saß allein am Tisch, ging zur Toilette, ließ aber erkennbar etwas am Tisch liegen und die Tasse war noch nicht leer (Jacke an der Museumsgarderobe). Bei der Rückkehr saßen vier andere Gäste dort, der Kellner habe sie dort platziert. Nachfrage beim Service, was das denn solle: Antwort: "keine Ahnung", "ich war das nicht". Meine ruhig vorgetragene Antwort, dass das doch ungastlich sei, kümmert gleich zwei Kellner nicht: "Keine Ahnung, € 3,60, "Auf Wiedersehen". Nein, lieber nicht.

Always thought it was more of a typical tourist bar. Very nice and attentive service, nice. Ambiance and convincing cuisine at really fair prices. There are also some vegetarian dishes on the menu, which were also impressive. So it's not a typical tourist restaurant, I can bury my prejudice. Will definitely come back again.

We went for lunch and it was very crowded. We were lucky to get a table at all. Service was friendly and fast. We were pleased with the food. You can check the restaurant's menu online in advance. There are also additional dishes that are advertised on a board in the restaurant.

An architecturally very successful museum with a very attractive exhibition. The cake in the cafe is very tasty

The restaurant is really great. We were thrilled by the ambience and especially the food. We can highly recommend the iced tea - we've tried them all. ;)

A pleasant location, but unfortunately the "young" waiters are not very motivated in their work. The younger waitress didn't even look at us as she threw the glasses and water on the table (literally) and quickly shuffled away. The younger waiters walk around the restaurant a lot and ask guests what they have ordered, as a result of which dishes come to the table very late. Sometimes not at all or only when asked. There doesn't seem to be a proper system in place. The only experienced waiter (you can see it directly in his face) is running his feet sore with a smile and is trying to somehow make it through the evening. I wish all waiters had the same enthusiasm as him.

Excellent traditional breakfast. We had the platter for two, which came with orange juice and prosecco. You get plenty of food with this option.

Immerwieder gehen wir gerne hier hin. Einzigartiges Ambiente, gute Speisen und Getränke machen den Besuch zu einem Erlebnis. Das Personal ist freundlich und kompetent. Auch wenn alles voll ist geht es zügig weiter. Die Räumlichkeiten sind passend zu dem Museum. Im Sommer gibt es auch Außengastronomie. Die Lage an der Hohenzollern Brücke und damit am Rhein ist wirklich sehr schön.

Nix besonderes. Die Bedienungen waren sehr gestresst. Das Essen war sehr salzig. Für die Preise nichts Besonderes.

Attached to the fascinating Ludwig Museum is Ludwig Im Museum ,a great cafe bar my twin brother and I visited after enjoying an hour or so in the Ludwig Museum. Interior is superb, great decor and furnishings and plenty of seating options, its a warm and cosy cafe bar to chill out in. We ordered coffee's and cakes ,service was quick and pleasant, we chilled out and planned out the day ahead while enjoying our coffee's and cakes. Coffee served in here was spot on, from the first sip till the last sup you can tell they use quality ingredients in their coffee and take great pride of the coffee they serve in here ,cakes were equally delicious, our visit couldn't have a better. Ludwig Im Museum is easy to locate along Heinrich Boell Platz . Opening hours are; Monday, closed. Tuesday to Sunday, 10am till midnight. Well worth checking out if you're in the area.

Eine super schöne Lokalität. Der Service ist super lieb und aufmerksam, allerdings wurden Getränke vergessen und bei Nachfrage wurde relativ genervt reagiert. Die fünf bestellten Gerichte waren leider nur lauwarm und auch nicht wirklich schmackhaft. Die Ideen hinter den Gerichten und die wechselnde Karte sind dennoch vielversprechend.

Die Speisen sind dort immer lecker, aber die Gaststätte ist zumindest an Wochenenden oft voll und der Geräuschpegel aufgrund ungünstiger Akustik recht hoch. Auf die Bedienung muss man immer etwas warten.

So einen pampigen und oberlehrerhaften Empfang habe ich noch nie erlebt. Nicht mein Niveau. Da ist jeder Schnellimbiss besser!!! Dorthinein setze ich keinen Schritt mehr.

Es war ok... Ich war dort zum Mittagessen. Es ist sehr laut und der Service leider nicht sonderlich aufmerksam. Ich hatte das Tagesgericht bestellt und ein Getränk. Das Gericht kam schnell zum Tisch, bzgl. des Getränks musste ich nachfragen. Das Gericht war leider nur lauwarm, die Nudeln in der Mikrowelle anscheinend etwas zu lange warm gemacht und dadurch trocken. Mein Nachbar, der das gleiche Gericht bestellt hatte, bekam doppelt so viel auf seinem Teller serviert. Sehr ärgerlich. Das Lokal an sich hätte viel Potential, dieses wird jedoch nicht ausgeschöpft. Vorteil: Zentral in Bahnhofsnähe und bei schönem Wetter sind die großen Fenster nach draußen bestimmt toll. Alles in allem leider enttäuschend. Ich werde nicht wieder kommen.

Heisse Chilli Schokolade mit Sahne war weder chilli noch heiss

It’s a big space but still manages to feel cosy enough. Our waiter and the service was very good. A nice menu with interesting choices, a German influence but a change from traditional German food. We very much enjoyed our meals as they were very tasty, well cooked and good portion sizes. Didn’t feel overpriced. Would go again.

Sehr schönes Café mit leckeren Speisen und Getränken mit einem sehr freundlichem Service und schönem Ambiente.

Guter Service und sehr gute Weinkarte, das Olivenöl ist Spitze kommt vom Peloponnes in Bioqualität....gute Qualität der Speisen(Bio), etwas teuer, aber es ist auch der zentralen Lage geschuldet, für Köln eine Bereicherung. Ich gehe da gerne hin, wenn die Stadt voll ist man hier immer ein Tisch bekommt, weil es so gut versteckt ist im Museum Ludwig. Das Museum Ludwig ist eine zeitlose Pracht und vom Architekten genial konzipiert mit der Philharmonie und dem Bahnhof in der Nähe, kann man alles zu Fuß machen. Die Treppe vom Konzertsaal in das Kaffee ist ein Geheimtipp. Der Service und Speisen ist wechselhaft von sehr gut bis ausreichend. Ich gehe schon viele Jahre hin es gab schon Unterschiede. Ich vermisse die grosse Käseplatte die ich gerne nach einem Konzert esse. Die Bagel sind neu auf der Karte, gut gemacht und sehr lecker.

Das Ludwig im Museum ist eines der besten Restaurants Kölns. Es gibt immer frische Speisen mit interessanten Twists aber auch Klassiker, zur Perfektion zubereitet. Das alles in einem sehr schönen und doch ungezwungenem Ambiente, mit dem herzlichsten Personal der Stadt (Gruß an Ingo 🤗). Wir werden immer wieder kommen.

Good food in a stylish location.

Meine Geschäftspartner waren von dem Essen sehr angetan und fotografierten jeden Teller für Ihre Lieben daheim.

Seems like a great place, yet a few things were 'off'. We waited quite some time before being seated. Not clear if that's how this restaurant works (didn't feel like free seating). Dishes were nice, yet a long & curly black hair in our daughter's salad ruined it for her. So can't really recommend this place... We have experienced much nicer in-museum eateries.

Das Essen war sehr gut. Die Weinkarte war sehr gut. Der Service sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Schönes Ambiente, geschmackvoll eingerichtet. Wir haben uns mit unserer Gruppe sehr wohl gefühlt. Eine rundherum gute Erfahrung.

So wie die Terrasse von Café Reichard den schönsten Blick auf den Dom erlaubt, so bietet die Terrasse von Café Ludwig-im-Museum den entspanntesten Blick auf Brücke und Rhein. Dazu trägt bei, dass der Heinrich-Böll-Platz oft menschenleer bleibt, weil er bei Konzerten und Proben der Philharmonie nicht betreten werden darf (die Architekten hatten nämlich den Lärm vergessen).

Wir haben hier in kleinem Rahmen unsere Hochzeit gefeiert. Und wir können nur sagen: Für uns war es perfekt. Das Ambiente war besonders, das Essen war absolut fantastisch, die Organisation im Vorfeld war gut und der Service war super und einfach sehr freundlich, ganz toll. Wir können uns nur ganz, ganz herzlich für diesen tollen Tag im Restaurant bedanken und es allen, dir überlegen dort zu feiern, sehr empfehlen.

Wir waren mal wieder zum Mädelstreff dort und es war dieses Mal außerordentlich gut. Der Service sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Der junge Mann war den ersten Tag im Einsatz und hat dies offen kommuniziert was wir klasse fanden. Die Kollegen haben ihn super unterstützt und es zeigte sich sehr gutes Teamwork. Sehr gute Speisekarte ohne 08/15 Gerichte. Nicht nur Gaumenfreude auch etwas fürs Auge. Volle Empfehlung, dort einmal essen zu gehen und zu genießen. Fotos sind Vorspeise und Hauptgericht: Ziegenkäse mit Kalamataoliven - hervorragend! Hauptgericht- Spinat Curry Semmelknödel mit Linsengemüse leicht asiatisch gewürzt-sehr zu empfehlen. Wir freuen uns auf das nächste Mal! Tisch Reservierung sollte man beachten.

Dans le même bâtiment que le musée d’art moderne, ce superbe restaurant propose également des plats type brunch et formules petit déjeuner dès 10h du matin. Plats très savoureux et visuellement magnifiques ! Bon rapport qualité prix. Service exemplaire, rapide et efficace. Pas d’attente et personnel très agréable. Le cadre est particulièrement agréable, doté d’une très belle décoration et d’une grande baie laissant entrer la lumière.

Nur zu empfehlen. Lecker essen, super nette Kellner. Faire Preise.

Was looking for a museum visit with a spot of breakfast before. Thursday around 11am. Breakfast, or perhaps better to call it brunch, at the museum Ludwig. Got seated quickly and the food came quickly. Waiter was pleasant. The food was quite good and plentiful. Prices varied from about 7€ to 20€ for breakfast. Coffee cost 3.40€ and hot chocolate was 4.70€. Compared to other places around, similar pricing. Enjoyed my food. A bit too full. Can walk it off in the museum now. Recommend the cafe wholeheartedly.

Nettes Restaurant im Museum Ludwig Tolles Personal, gute Speisen, flexibel

Meine Sterneverteilung bezieht meine früheren Besuche mit ein, in denen ich / wir gut gespeist und sehr freundlich und gastorientiert bedient wurden. Für den heutigen Besuch müßte ich bei Essen, Service und Ambiente je einen Stern abziehen. Das Restaurant bietet einen Resevierungsservice an. (2 Tage im Voraus, damit man planen kann). Da rechnet man doch mit mit einem schönen Tisch und einen aufmerksamen Empfang. Als ich ankam, war der Außenbereich voll besetzt, Drinnen saßen wenige Gäste, 2-3 Tische waren eingedeckt. Eine dunkelhaarige Angestellte (Schichtleiterin, wie sich später herausstellte) begrüßte mich nach einiger Zeit. Ich nannte meinen Namen und dass ich reserviert hätte. Sie deutete auf den nächsten Tisch oder Draußen (nicht reserviert). Ich insistierte, dass Draußen voll sei und mir der Tisch direkt im Kreuzungsbereich nicht zusage. "spezielle Sitzplatzwünsche hätte ich bei der Reservierung angeben müssen". Man rechnet aber auch nicht mit dem schlechtesten Tisch im Restaurant, wenn man reserviert und noch so viel frei ist. Aber die besten Kommentare von Ihr kamen am Schluß. Bestellung: Wasser, Aperol-Spritz als Aperitif (ausdrücklich), Spinat-Semmelknödel auf Linsen mit Currygemüse. Die an der Oberfläche bereits ausgetrockneten Knödel kamen wirklich prompt!!! (Mikrowelle und eine suppige, scharfe Soße, die jedem billigen Thai-Imbiss Ehre gemacht hätte, sei gedankt) - so kannte ich hier die Küche bisher nicht. Frage an die Kellner, dass hier die Reihenfolge wohl nicht stimmt, denn ich hatte ja bisher weder Wasser noch Aperitif. Das könne schon mal vorkommen und man würde sich nach den Getränken erkundigen. Hier hätte ich danken und gehen sollen. Mein Fehler, das ich es nicht tat, denn es war schließlich offensichtlich, dass dies ein Schuß in den Ofen wird. Vor meiner Nase tobt derweil das Restaurantchaos. Die Schichtleiterin schickt die Gäste immer wieder in den inzwischen völlig überfüllten Außenbereich. "Bumerangeffekt - aber ich bin sie erst mal los"(Anm. des Autors). Dann wird noch mit dem Personal gestritten, ein renitenter Gast taucht widerholt krackelend auf und obwohl dieser offensichtlich bekannt ist wird hier kein Hausverbot erteilt. Schließlich werden die Mitarbeiter im Kasernenhofton an die Arbeit gescheucht. Mir reichts ich verzichte auf den Wein zum Essen und auch Nachtisch und Digestif sind mir vergällt. Zahlen bitte. Obwohl der Schichtleiterin klar sein dürfte, dass ich auf 180 bin und sie selbst kassieren kann, will sie einer Bedienung Bescheid geben. Ohne Ergebnis! Ich muss noch zwei weitere Male (inzwischen auch etwas lautstark) nach der Rechnung verlangen. Der Mitarbeiter ist um Schadensbegrenzung bemüht, als ich mich als unzufrieden äußerte. Ich habe gedankt und nach jemand Verantwortlichen gefragt. Nun kam die Dame von Eingangs ins Spiel, die sich auf Nachfrage als Schichtleiterin vorstellte. Mit meiner Kritik konfrontiert, - war erst mal ich selbst Schuld - ich hätte was sagen sollen - es war alles reserviert - eine glatte Lüge - sie müsse auch mit Stammgästen rechnen - da hat sie jetzt einen weniger - sie hätte nicht mit Mitarbeitern gestritten - ich wollte den MA herbeirufen lassen, da lenkte Sie ein. Offensichtlich hatte es klick gemacht, denn es kam das einstudierte Programm. Sie würde darüber nachdenken, sich um Verbesserung bemühen und sie wünsche mir noch einen schönen Nachmittag. Eine Entschuldigung erfolgte weder mündlich, noch durch einen "Kaffee". Eine einzelne schlecht geschulte oder überforderte Person kann also nicht nur den aktuellen Eindruck, sondern auch einen jahrelang aufgebauten zerstören. Sehr bedauerlich.

Anlässlich eines runden Geburtstags habe ich hier mit einer kleinen Gruppe gefeiert. Bedienung war sehr nett (z. B. wollte ein Kind spontan doch noch Suppe und sie wurde umgehend in einer kleinen Schale gebracht, toller Service). Wir hatten zuvor eine kleine Auswahl an Speisen zusammengestellt. Tisch wurde wunschgemäß am Fenster reserviert und die Gäste waren mit dem Essen sehr zufrieden. Einfach alles top.

Essen dauert zwar, alle aber sehr nett und Essen sehr gut. Haben da sehr gut gegessen. Kommen wieder!

Nettes Cafe, aber in allem verbesserungswürdig. Fehlt an veganen Speisen

We had a most delicious dinner tonight, with Miriam as our waitress. Mustafa, the chef, made truly outstanding food, with delightful dishes that were quite diverse from one another and each uniquely perfect. The best part was being able to enjoy Mustafa’s special Moroccan dessert, and a limoncello. We felt like the whole dinner was a great celebration! Many many thanks Mustafa for sharing your culinary talent, and thank you, Miriam, and fellow staff, for being so welcoming and warm to us! It was our first night as visitors in Köln and we surely hope to return. Dante für alles!!

Interessante Essensauswahl, es gab für jeden von uns 5 Personen mit unterschiedlichen Essensgewohnheiten etwas Leckers. Super Service und schönes Ambiente, besonders draußen👍🏻

Really poor and sad breakfast. One piece of cheap cheese, sausage and paté and hard bread that was absolutely not fresh. Got pasta there which tasted good but these scums are charging extra 2 eur for Parmesan! Also the place is very understaffed, you can see how much stress waiters have. These people are just making money out of the tourists in the popular location. Not recommended.

most likely the most tasteful meals you've ever had. Ludwig is proud on its unique, very bio organic ingredients, and they should: you can really taste the difference. Their chef is amazing. Despite their outstanding quality (i dare say the best in a 300 km radius) the prices are really fair, and there's always plenty space, even during busy events like GamesCom. Staff is friendly and very helpful.

Drinks were okay but the food was disgusting. Do not under any circumstances think about getting the Antipasti; you’ll be better off eating raw vegetables… We did not touch the food, and when we told the server about it, he just apologized and didn’t offer to replace it.

Sehr schöner, zentral(er geht es nicht) gelegener Laden, sehr hell, schöne Aussicht, normales Essen, freundliche, fleißige Lehrlinge, relativ gestresste erfahrene Bedienung.

Eigentlich ist das Café sehr schön gelegen. Die Bedienung allerdings nicht sehr schnell. ½ Stunde für 2 Espressi. Innen war das Restaurant leer nur Außengastronomie war besetzt.

Wir wollten, wie schon so oft, nach dem Orgelkonzert im Kölner Dom noch ein oder 2 Glas Wein trinken. ! Als wir um 21.20 Uhr ankamen, wurde uns von einer Servicekraft mitgeteilt, dass dies nicht mehr möglich sei. Es waren noch Gäste im Restaurant und die Öffnungszeiten sind dienstags bis 0.00 Uhr Uhr angegeben. Sehr enttäuschend, vor allem vor dem Hintergrund, dass wir ansonsten immer noch bedient wurden!

Von Anfang bis Ende super. Das Museum ist ein absolutes Muss beim Köln Besuch und das Essen im Café war besser als in manch Restaurant. Wir hatten den Burger und die Involtini vom Hühnchen und waren begeistert.

Unfreundliche, arrogante Bedienung. Das Essen (wir hatten alle Burger) war teuer und höchst mittelmäßig. Änderungswünsche wurden abgelehnt.

Nachdem wir vorher gute Erfahrungen gemacht haben, hatten wir wohl diesmal Pech mit dem Koch. Das Essen war kalt und musste wieder aufgewärmt werden und die Portion für stattliche 24 Euro (Involtini vom Landhuhn) wesentlich kleiner als das, was Kunden nach uns bekamen. Schade. Der Geschmack des Essens ist einfach gut.

Unser Stammlokal für alle Feiereien, Büropausen oder einfach mal so, feinste Qualitäten (Bio) und feinste Kochkunst. Schön, dass Kräuter aus der Alexianer-Gärtnerei kommen,. Nach einem Museumsbesuch aber auch nach einem Stadtbummel kann man hier wunderbar die Seele baumeln lassen. Service und Essen sowie das Ambiente sind vorzüglich und man hat bei gutem Wetter die Wahl ob man lieber drinnen oder draußen sitzen möchte. Die Location ist sehr zu empfehlen, auch für Frühstücksbesuche!

Nicht sehr freundliches Personal - hier gibt es nur Bio Kaffee. Nachgefragt nach einer weiteren Getränkebestellung wird jedenfalls nicht.

Ich denke es ist verständlich zu sagen, dass das Restaurant nicht billig ist. Jedoch merkt man schnell, wie zuvorkommend das Personal ist und welche Qualität das Essen hat. Wer also etwas extra Kleingeld mitbringt und hochwertiges Essen fordert, wird hier schnell fündig.

Eigentlich 0 Sterne. Assozialer geht es nicht als einer alten Frau den Toilettengang zu verweigern. Wer etwas Wert auf Menschlichkeit setzt, sollte diesen Ort dringend meiden.
