What a great Brauhaus. Great atmosphere, food typical German and our host an absolute hoot. Seldon had a waiter keep us entertained like this. Thank you.

Absolutely avoid this place! The service was terrible. They couldn't understand us in English, even though we're bilingual. The person at the reception gave us a curt and dismissive "wait," despite our reservation. Furthermore, we had booked a table two days in advance and were shocked to find it was next to the restrooms, even though the restaurant was half empty (was that a coincidence?). As soon as we sat down, a bald waiter came and pressured us into ordering a beer. I refused and ordered a Coke, to which we were met with a heavy sigh. The food was nothing special, and we made the mistake of asking for mayonnaise with our fries. The waiter completely humiliated us, yelling at us in front of the other customers and mocking our taste in food... which made the rest of our meal incredibly unpleasant. So, overall, it was a very harsh and humiliating experience, one to avoid at all costs. Tourists, be careful and keep your money!

MICE ALL AROUND THE PLACE!!!! We arrived, ordered, and everything seemed normal. Suddenly, we and other nearby tables saw a MOUSE happily crawling under people's tables. After a few tables were raised, we stood up too; we couldn't eat with a mouse crawling between our legs. I pointed out the mouse to two waiters, pointing it out, but they didn't respond. I told them we shouldn't eat like this and asked for the bill, with full plates, without having finished our order. They charged us full price, without an apology or a discount. I was disappointed and saddened by this treatment.

Very delicious food and friendly, fun service.

There was a MOUSE… many people left, including us. Even though the waiters saw the MOUSE, they didn't do anything! We all paid FULL PRICE. We left feeling nauseous and without finishing our dishes.

While we were eating, a rat was running around the restaurant. The waiters were indifferent to our requests. We had to leave all the food (as soon as it arrived) and pay the full bill.

Dinner on January 1, 2026, at a table of four, just after ordering, we saw a mouse run across the restaurant. While we were eating a few bites of our dish, we saw it again several times. We mentioned it to the staff, but their reaction was virtually nonexistent, as if it weren't their problem. Even a table behind us, upon noticing the mouse, immediately got up and went to pay without even touching their food, though they still settled the bill. No apology from them, no explanation, just 90 euros less in our wallets.

Rude staff, very touristic place gotcha

Good food and beer, especially the schnitzel and the sausage with cabbage and potatoes. Good service.

We had a great time at this traditional German restaurant. The menu offers dishes at all price points, and we weren't disappointed. The schnitzel and black pudding were delicious. Excellent beer.

The atmosphere at Christmas was quite good. He encouraged everyone to order beer, even the children. He was quite curt. It was fine for a quick drink, but we won't be back.

Its very pretty and the workers are nice and the food is great. It did take a long time to arrive though and sometimes it was hard to call the workers attention because it was full. Also we saw one mouse :( but i think it was a great experience either way! Very german.

We went in here for drinks, great kolsh. Good service and amazing building. Well worth a visit.

Fantastic soups and Kolsch! This place truly captures the atmosphere and flavors of Cologne! A must-see!

The place is obviously in a tourist hotspot in Cologne. Nevertheless, it retains a certain flair of a typical Cologne brewery. Always very busy, and the food is served almost like an assembly line. Which isn't so bad considering. The prices are just about reasonable. Generally speaking, though, a brewery outside the old town is preferable.

Away from the old town. You can tell that genuine culture still exists here. Not just as a tourist attraction. In my opinion, they really cook here. No convenience food. The service was efficient and helpful. It was a pleasure to spend Saturday evening there with the family, and three generations felt well taken care of.

My favourite Kölsch; wonderful food

A terrible experience. We arrived at the restaurant at 1:00 PM and our food wasn't served until 2:30 PM. Furthermore, they brought the second course first and much later the first, which we then refused. The waiters completely ignored us, and the service was appalling. In the end, we got up and left. The food and service left much to be desired. We do not recommend it.

We were assigned a table, but almost immediately had to move again because it had been assigned to someone else. We had to sit in the drinks section, which wasn't a problem in itself. The food was very mediocre for a lot of money. Despite the fact that we were served with little enthusiasm or desire, our displeasure only surfaced when we asked for the bill. We weren't given a receipt, even though the amount was entered into the bank card, and we paid. I thought the amount was already quite high and asked for the paper bill. As I suspected, it was incorrect and there was one dish too many. When we confronted the waiter, he got angry, crumpled the bill, and left. After some locals from Cologne next to us intervened, we got our overpaid amount refunded. This was thrown on the table very gruffly. It was €10 after all, so not just a little overcharge. It was clear, and very noticeable from his reaction, that he was deliberately trying to overcharge us because we were tourists. I think in many cases, he would have succeeded.

Not recommended at all. We came because a friend recommended it, but we were extremely disappointed. I ordered a dish, and 20 minutes later, they told me they were out of it. At that moment, I saw them bringing the same dish to a table that arrived 15 minutes after us. It took them an hour to serve us, and they served tables that arrived 45 minutes after us before us. That's not an estimate; it was exactly like that. There were three of us, and one of us had to eat alone because they brought everyone's food except hers, and by the time her dish arrived, the rest of us had already finished. The waiters were arrogant and quite rude. We ended up very angry and left with a very bad feeling.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and the food. The beers were fantastic too. The ambiance was lovely. The witty service staff added to the atmosphere 😄

I truly expected and wanted to give this place 5 stars. It's the most beautiful and heartwarming restaurant I have ever been to. But the food was mediocre, service terrible: a grouch but very overworked waiter in late 50s couldn't handle the crowd - and that falls on management. We waited 30 minutes for check after calling him 3 times. Then he finally came and asked for a tip. We had dessert elsewhere or we would have been there all night. Just too bad: the place is beautiful.

We had spicy Goulash and pork medallions, both dishes were delicious. The Goulash had cumin, which is a spice we are familiar with and love, it’s a good portion too. The medallions had a “gamey” taste to it, which I like as well but not so much by my wife. Veggies on the side were well cooked. Kölsch beer is refreshing but it’s small, especially we just spent last few nights drinking at Bavarian beer halls. I like the beer but not something I would crave for. The outside of the restaurant is beautifully decorated, the stain glass ceiling is nice and classic. But I must admit I already started missing the beer halls.

Foxes are usually clever, but the fox in this brewery, in our opinion, isn't. He insults guests, and when it was time to pay, he even wanted to take me outside... Fair enough! I told the fox I wouldn't be a customer anymore if he was there. So, that's it... I'm done...

I brought 2 American friends here one Monday evening earlier in December. The place was really full but the guy at the front found us a comfortable table just close to the section with the amazing coloured glass ceiling. Amazing. One of the waiters, originally from Croatia served us. He was really friendly and chatty and we had a great time bantering with him. Naturally he kept the Kölsch beer flowing. My two friends went for dessert, apple strudel and an enormous wind buettel whereas I decided to go for the pork in nelly (Sülze) and fried potatoes. Delicious!

It used to be my favorite brewery in Cologne, but the last two times I was very disappointed, both with the food and the service...

Great stop for lunch and a beer!

The food was average for a brewery. The pork knuckle was very fatty. I've had much better at other breweries! What bothered me most, however, was the very unfriendly waiter who gave really rude answers.

A really scary experience. The place was dirty, with no attention to hygiene at all. Luckily, we left before even eating because the staff made us feel extremely uncomfortable. The waiters were aggressive, rude, drunk, and disrespectful. There was absolutely no politeness or kindness: they answered rudely to every request, threw chairs toward our table, shouted, and made fun of us when we asked for explanations. When you go out to eat, you need to feel comfortable and trust the people who are serving you food you’re supposed to eat. I would never have eaten anything they brought us, so we left, especially since the situation had become ridiculous. On top of that, the place was filthy, and looking at the food served to other tables, the quality looked terrible especially for such crazy prices

I went to Peters with colleagues today. Everything was fine at first; the waiter immediately asked if we wanted to pay separately or together. However, one of the cards didn't work when we tried to pay, and the waiter reacted very rudely and abusively. We found this behavior completely inappropriate. In addition, the price-performance ratio is unfortunately not good: €25 for two small schnitzels with a few fried potatoes is far too expensive. Therefore, I unfortunately won't be visiting this restaurant again.

Unpleasant experience. Unfriendly staff. We waited at the door and were repeatedly checked, but no one helped us to a table. We wanted a drink because it wasn't dinner time and were rudely ushered to a high-top table. We left immediately. Definitely not recommended.

A must-visit in Cologne! The experience was wonderful. It's right next to the Christmas market. We were served by Santiago, who spoke Spanish, but the staff speaks English perfectly well. The food is exquisite and the portions are very generous; the price is similar to other breweries in the area, but the quality and excellent service make all the difference. Everything was delicious, definitely a place to return to.

We had a long wait for food but that was because it was extremely busy, and was worth the wait.

The first time we went the service was incredible. All the food is excellent, especially the pork (I have no idea about vegan or vegetarian), but the Kolsch beer is great. You must must must must must try the Beer Tiramisu. It is the greatest thing ever. On our second visit, the service was rather ordinary. The tradition is the waiter keeps filling your beer until you place your coaster on top of your glass. If my waiter had bothered to turn up every now and again, it would have been great. So great food, great Kolsch beer, but hit and miss service. Try to get there mid afternoon so you aren't eating beer food without any beer.

The food was of very high quality. All the ingredients tasted fresh. The beer was excellent, and the service deserves special mention. Every employee was friendly and attentive, even though the place was packed. The server who looked after us was particularly impressive with his warm and empathetic manner. He said he loves his job, and you could tell he did. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back.

This is my favorite place to go. You can eat here in a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere.

Incredibly rude staff … go elsewhere

The place is lovely. Great atmosphere. A guide told us to try the sauerbratten and it was delicious, as was the apple strudel we had for dessert. We were served by a very friendly waitress. We had a reservation, but since it's a large place, it seems that if you go without a reservation, you shouldn't have to wait more than 15-20 minutes.

Amazing and authentic food, wonderful atmosphere and the service was good

Staff behavior inappropriate for a public establishment After more than 30 minutes of waiting, we were seated. Service began immediately for the German customers seated nearby; we received no attention, no communication. Shortly afterward, a chair was thrown by the staff, landing on the floor just a stone's throw away from me. The incident was not only inappropriate, but potentially dangerous. When asked for an explanation, the waiter involved sat down on the chair he had just thrown, defiantly and with a clearly altered tone, declaring that he needed to rest after a long day at work. His body language, manner of speaking, and total lack of self-control were inconsistent with a state of complete lucidity, nor with his role. Subsequently, a second waiter intervened and, instead of apologizing or handling the incident professionally, put the chair back where it had been before it was thrown and addressed my son sarcastically, asking if he was now satisfied. No apology. No acceptance of responsibility. Just derision. At that point, we left the place without consuming anything. A business that calls itself "historic" should guarantee control, sobriety, and respect for its customers, regardless of their nationality. Here, we witnessed objects being thrown, provocative behavior, and staff who clearly couldn't handle even the most basic table service tasks. It's not a question of stress or a bad day: it's professional inadequacy. An unacceptable experience.

Excellent beer (one of the best I've ever tried). I also tried their local dish called Himmel un Ääd. It is well prepared, but it's not really to my taste (I recommend it to those who enjoy culinary experiments). Very fatty blood sausage. The first visit was perfect; the food and drinks were delicious, and the waiter was attentive. We went back the next day and this time got a table overlooking the accessible toilet. Later, it started to smell slightly musty. Suddenly, we were told we had to vacate the table in 15 minutes (we were still waiting for dessert, and a third person was on their way) to make a reservation. Just like that, the good impression from the day before was gone. The waiter's apparent concern at the time of payment was no use at that point—a real shame.

Enjoyed dinner here during the Christmas Market. Opted for the house schnitzel (with crispy potatoes and separate salad) and schnitzel 'Budapest' (with tomato & pepper sauce and chips). 🇩🇪 Our waiter Peter was very helpful and friendly, speaking fluent English (though we did try German at first 😅). Would recommend if you are looking for nice German food. Safe and exotic food options available, very family friendly. 😊 For those who aren't aware (we were pre-warned), all adults are offered a half pint of beer when you sit down. This will be refilled each time you finish it. 🍻

We were there again in December. The food wasn't as good this time. The food wasn't hot. The medallions were unfortunately overcooked. Three mushrooms, a little bit of vegetables, and frozen croquettes. Service: 4- (out of 5), very long wait to order. And of course, the same when paying. We were absolutely disappointed. And that's considering the high price. We won't be eating there again. For that price, we can eat better elsewhere. Which is exactly what we did the next day. We weren't disappointed there.

The Italian waiter is exceptionally nice, but the shorter, overweight one with the hooked nose has absolutely no manners!

Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place. There were five of us there to eat and play cards. This was initially tolerated. Then, we were unfortunately informed in a very unfriendly manner that playing cards is not allowed in the brewery. Such a rule isn't objectionable in itself, but the way the waiter treated us was simply disrespectful. When we pointed out his misconduct to other employees as we were leaving and asked them to pass it on to their boss, we were met with nothing more than, "We don't report our colleagues here." Such unprofessional behavior towards their own guests is unacceptable. For the sake of completeness, it should be mentioned that the Italian waitress who was actually responsible for our table was not at fault and was extremely friendly. Nevertheless, this was our last visit!

Excellent, fantastic atmosphere.

We were eager to try this highly regarded restaurant, boasting over 8,000 reviews. Unfortunately, the disappointment began as soon as we arrived. At the entrance, several staff members walked past us: they looked at us, but none came to greet us. It wasn't until a German customer, who arrived after us, was seated immediately that we were finally attended to. Second disappointment: We ordered our first course, only to learn it wasn't available. We opted for a second choice… also unavailable. Yet, the restaurant had only been open for about 20 minutes. Third incident: A waitress spoke a few incomprehensible words to us. We politely asked her to repeat herself, but she sighed, visibly annoyed, and became particularly impatient. Fourth incident: When it came time to pay the bill, the waitress insisted on adding a tip, claiming it was mandatory in Germany. We explained that this wasn't our first restaurant in the country and that a tip had never been expected, especially not after such disappointing service. She wouldn't let us choose the amount, and pressed for time due to a sightseeing trip, we reluctantly agreed to it. In conclusion, after this trip, I advise tourists not to rely solely on the number of reviews or highly positive ratings. I truly felt that many people are easily satisfied given the prices here, and that the glowing reviews might come from customers whose palates aren't discerning enough to judge the true quality of the food.

The food was delicious and the atmosphere was lovely, however, the waiter was absolutely awful. Insulting remarks and various other unpleasantries are not what a guest wants or expects...towards the end, he seemed to want to make amends and was a bit nicer...I usually like a "rustic tone," but this was more than one can accept.

Delicious food, especially the sausages with their signature spicy mustard, which you can add to taste. The hot soup was excellent. A truly immersive experience in a traditional German tavern. They served special beer in the small size typical of Cologne. I would definitely go back.

Scnitzel was frozen and expensive..

Great place, traditionally German. Good, authentic German cuisine with honest and fresh dishes. Delicious beer. A wonderfully warm welcome, and the kitchen stays open until quite late. Although it's right in the tourist district, this is an ideal place to eat and relax. Highly recommended.

The waiter came across like a temporary or wannabe Köbes (traditional Cologne waiter), completely lacking in respect or interest in the customer. Rude, dismissive, and with an attitude that clearly showed: he couldn't care less whether you stayed or left. This has absolutely nothing to do with genuine Cologne brewery culture. My advice: Go 200 meters further to the Augustiner am Heumarkt. There you get service – here you only get posturing.

The prices were too high for the quality of the food. I wanted to order a cutlet with fries, but they wouldn't let me because I was at least 10 years old. They brought some dishes after 15 minutes, and the others after 40. I don't recommend it at all.

You had to bring the baby's diaper back to the table because the cleaning staff didn't like it. The children's meals couldn't be changed; requests weren't allowed. For example, dry pasta and a sausage were absolutely out of the question, and a dish without sauce or with a different sauce wasn't possible either. NOT RECOMMENDED

This is one of the oldest beer places in Cologne, so of course we had to try it. The experience was a mix of good and not-so-good. The wait for a table was very long—about one hour. It was a Sunday evening during Christmas market season, around 6 p.m., so maybe that explains it, but still, it felt like a really long wait. Once seated, the service was incredibly fast. Our food arrived almost immediately, which makes me think it’s not freshly prepared, but our dish was simple (potato salad with sausage), and it was tasty and enjoyable. The beer was nice—a classic Kölsch, and perfectly fine for a pilsner-style beer. Overall, the food was okay, the beer was good, and the service was extremely fast. Just be prepared for a potentially long wait to get inside, especially during busy times like the Christmas markets.

We didn’t end up dining here. The ladies next to us had also walked out before we had and we should have followed their lead. Most of the negative reviews are pretty accurate. I’m not sure if it’s a bias towards non-German speaking diners or just a select few but our experience was so horrible. We got to the restaurant and lined up at 6pm. It’s already so disorganized at the entrance, but you just line up, no sign-in sheet, you just wait in a crowd and hope the people who cut in front of you don’t get seated first (but they will). We got seated after waiting maybe 15 minutes, and our waiter is probably the same rude, obnoxious one mentioned in prior reviews. As others noted, if you ask for tap water, you’ll get bottled still water (so might as well get a regular drink). We ordered the pork knuckle and schnitzel. An HOUR and ten minutes later, we still hadn’t gotten our food. I notice FOUR tables around us have gotten seated and served their food before us. Unbelievable. We ask our waiter where our food is and he replies “It’s coming, I only have two hands!” I really wanted to be patient but honestly this was such a terrible and frustrating experience so we decided to leave, wasting 90 minutes of our evening at this establishment. I would seriously avoid this place, especially if you’re a tourist. There are many brauhauses in this area that have the same food with much, much better service.

The waiters were extremely unfriendly; they were incredibly rude to customers at the entrance for not following the entry procedure. This is no way to treat customers.

We received a truly unfriendly welcome from a rushed man in a hoodie. A table of 10, four of whom joined 5 minutes late, were a table we pointed out at the start. We were also approached twice in a very unfriendly manner, asking where they were even though they arrived 5 minutes late. Never before had the staff been so rudely yelled at. What a letdown. Our drinks and food orders were taken by a friendly man with long hair, but it's a shame that that detracts from the welcome we received.

This time I do have some criticism. Until last year, I hadn't eaten such delicious kale anywhere as here at Brauhaus Peters. That's why we always loved coming here. This week, however, was truly disappointing. The kale was very poorly cleaned, as some of the thick stalks were included. This made the kale very stringy! The Mettwurst (a type of German sausage) we ordered with it wasn't cooked through and was still raw in the middle. However, after complaining, it was replaced with a new, fully cooked sausage. The next disappointment came at the end when we paid! The same thing happened to us last year. I could somewhat accept the apology then. I must have rung up the four Kölsch beers from the next table incorrectly. Okay, these things happen! However, this week there were again four Kölsch beers on the bill that we didn't drink. What a shame, and yet another disappointment! Without the bill, it probably wouldn't have been noticed! I used to really enjoy going to Brauhaus Peters because of the delicious beer and food. Now I'll be looking for another brewery in Cologne.

Our assigned table was freezing cold, the food was just okay, nothing special, but the portions were quite small. The atmosphere was kind of hectic, and the staff seemed overworked. It's a brewery I wouldn't recommend right now.

We had a fantastic dinner and the service was impeccable. We'll definitely be back.

A decent brewery with reasonable prices.

Worst service I have ever experienced.

Ah, what a truly refreshing experience! The staff's warmth was unparalleled – namely, nonexistent. My Kölsch was served with such delicate hygiene that I wondered if the waiter had just been playing in the mud. Ugh! Who knows where these precious tools of service might have left their mark beforehand? A real highlight of the restaurant business: serving drinks in such a way that you immediately wonder if you shouldn't have just stuck to the tap. This isn't just a bad training ground, it's the university of germ propagation! When I then dared to mention this subtle serving technique, the waiter reacted with a professionalism that almost brought tears to my eyes. Annoyed and defiant, as befits a true master of his craft, he demonstratively pulled a napkin from the table – presumably the cleanest one of the century – and performed a ritualistic cleaning ceremony on the rim of the glass. A gesture that immediately made me feel like I was in the safest hands. So, if anyone is suddenly blessed with stomach cramps after visiting this gem of hospitality, they really shouldn't be surprised. You could almost consider it a welcome gift from the house. An unforgettable experience – unfortunately!

Nice place in the center of Cologne, good food and good beer, friendly and attentive service

October 2025. A nice visit to the legendary place Peters Brauhaus. Lots of people and high noise level. The food tasted very good and the beer equally so. Nice premises. The service was okay, quite impersonal.

Worst dinner ever, they treated us very badly and then in the billing they add a 27€ dish that we didn’t order. One of the friend that had dinner in the place got intestinal intoxication.

This place was hopping. Solid German food, servers work super hard.

Friendly service and delicious food!

Staff were so rude that we couldn’t order anything. They want us to wait at the entrance in order for someone to help us finding a table. We have waited there for approximately 5 minutes. Many of the staff saw us but nobody said anything. Afterwards, we went and ask a table to sit. After they directed us to bar we asked if there was a place that we can sit. The personnel told us we have to sit if don’t eat in a very rude way. His every word and every move was disruptive and we couldn’t order anything and leave.

Staffs were very rude. Although saw us that we were waiting in order to be seated and did not help us. Then we found someone and asked to be seated, I asked some staff to order some beer and said ‘excuse me’. And he said that I didn’t excuse you and went. He talked very rude way, every single words and every behavior was very disruptive. We couldn’t order anything. The staff talked with us very unlimited and rude. And we leave.

Not entirely sure why there is only a 4.2 star for this place. I just had dinner here. I had heard that the pork knuckle was a good choice.. well, I believe that to be a major understatement, the pork knuckle with Savoy cabbage was amazing! I couldn't reccomend it more! Their Kölsh is also quite nice, it is light with a hint of fruitiness. Our waiter, I wish I got his name, was unbelievable, this place was packed (standing room only- if you were there for drinks only) and we were sat, and had drinks within minutes. He then made sure my drink was full. Dinner took about 15 minutes from order time. I would never complain about that. All in all, I would say if you are in Koln, you HAVE to check out Peter's. You will not be sorry.

A quaint brewery with good, traditional Rhineland cuisine. We've been visiting it for many years. The beer here is also very tasty. Always worth a visit.

Friendly service, but it's freezing cold in the front area during winter 🥶 The food is okay, but more like canteen fare. I don't think I'd go back – or maybe just for a beer.

One of Cologne's most typical places. Every dish is excellent in terms of quantity, quality, and price.

A great atmosphere, with fast service and excellent food. The food is delicious; we had to queue a bit, but we were seated within 5 minutes. Since we didn't have a reservation, we had to wait. But everything was quick.

Note for us Italians: the bill should be asked for directly from the waiters, who will charge you at the table. There's no pay-and-collect. To order, you have to flag down the waiters. Tip at the end of the service with the receipt. The service is fast and accurate.

We received a very rude welcome tonight. I understand that when it's busy, you might have to wait a bit. But the way we were snapped at by a bald waiter with glasses who needs a sedative... No... The experience was practically ruined. We did eat something, and it was good. The waiter who helped us to our table was pleasant and friendly, despite the crowd.
