Restaurant Freudenhaus St. Pauli in Hamburg

1. One of the best Wiener Schnitzel I've ever eaten. Maybe a little too salty together with the fried potatoes, but that may also be due to my personal taste. When I cook for myself, I tend to add little salt - of course the restaurant can't know that. Four stars. 2. On the third visit (yesterday) I had two soups that were clearly too salty not only for me but also for my friend. As Biolek already said: You can always add more salt (significantly, there are only salt shakers on every table, but no pepper shakers) - you just can't add salt. 3. When we were clearing up we were asked if everything was okay. Apparently that wasn't really a serious question, because when I said that it was too salty for me, I was reprimanded quite severely as to why I hadn't said so earlier. Why am I being asked this question when only uncritical answers are apparently allowed anyway? 4. I find the service staff's advice to say it immediately if you don't like it legitimate and helpful and I take it to heart, thank you! Since it was soup, I thought it came from a large pot and wasn't made especially for me. Next time I'll get back to you sooner, I promise! ✌️ 5. However, I did not find the way this was communicated to be hospitable. When the table next door made a similar comment while paying, I felt that the two women were literally folded together by the waitress; It was incomprehensible to her why people only complained at the end. In terms of content, I completely agree. But: As guests, we felt lectured and reprimanded in an unfriendly tone when we left - apart from the fact that there was not even an excuse for the hour-long wait for the food. As I said: everything is understandable in terms of content - but the sound makes the music, St. Pauli coolness or not. I was a paying guest and not an employee and would like to be treated as such. I definitely understand everything, but not for such a harsh tone, which certainly reflected the stress or perhaps frustration over the evening in a full restaurant with some dissatisfied guests. But things can be a little more professional.

First dinner on our first night on a whirlwind trip to Hamburg! We chose Freudenhaus because we were looking for a place that served German food with vegetarian options. I'm not 100% sure if the translation Google was providing of their menu were accurate or just interesting interpretations, but the vegetarian menu on their website came out translated as "For the flower understanders" – Okay, either way I'm in. It was a busy time in Hamburg in the middle of the Reeperbahn festival so we were worried about getting a table, but we were seated immediately upon arrival. Our server accomodated our English and even provided a menu in English. My sun had a mushroom pasta, which he thought was good, and I had a schnitzel dish made with a celery-based "meat." Now that didn't necessarily "sound" good, but it really was a thoughtful offering to give us a schnitzel-like experience in Germany. The potatoes it was served with were well cooked and added a nice heartiness to the meal. They also have a pea soup, usually served with meat but which can be prepared vegan upon request. Freudenhaus is on a side street, a short block off of the main Reeperbahn Rd. So, very easy to get to. If you're looking for authentic German food with vegetarian options, this is a great place to go.

As always. My absolute favorite restaurant. Best food, exquisite selection of drinks and service that is second to none. More is not possible. Thank you to Ramona and her whole team for the many great evenings I spent in the joyhouse with my loved ones. A BIG thank you also to the chefs in the kitchen for the food, which is always sensational.

Currently, when making a reservation you have to choose between two time slots, 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Optimal for occupancy, the guest must adhere very strictly to these procedures. Inside you will find a typical Hamburg atmosphere, but the rooms have very tight seating and offer little freedom of movement. The food is requested quickly and served quickly, as are drinks. The menu offers good home-style food, but at a high price. Men and women can definitely get the same quality at affordable prices in HH.

Good German cuisine at reasonable prices. The restaurant is cozy and always seems to be very busy. We waited a very long time for our food, our neighboring table actually left because of the long wait. Tastes differ: I've had better schnitzel in Hamburg.

We were happy to finally have German cuisine but were bitterly disappointed. My meal was canceled without any problem, my husband's roulades weren't there either, and the red cabbage was totally seasoned. But top service and a wonderful ambience!

I was recommended the restaurant and I have to say it was really delicious there. You get something hearty with a twist of your own and yes, it may be a little more expensive but it's worth it. I also can't understand the negative reviews here; is perhaps often reciprocal. In any case, we were welcomed very friendly and relaxed. Throughout the evening the service was very attentive, friendly and not at all condescending or anything like that. Ambience is great! All in all, would be back at any time and recommended!

I have never experienced such an unfriendly, even rude service person! We were there with a large group on a Tuesday and had reserved. The food was good, as was the table and the ambience. Only the waitress with distinctive glasses ensured that we left the restaurant as quickly as possible. There were maybe two or three other tables occupied besides our group. So it couldn't be due to too much stress...

We've actually never experienced anything like this before: we come to the restaurant at 5:30 p.m. to get a nice table without a reservation. Only one table occupied in the restaurant. All other tables were supposedly occupied between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. We say: we'll be gone in an hour at the latest, can you give us a nice table in a niche. Answer. No, all tables are occupied. So we go outside to the street. The food wasn't subpar, but it was at least sufficient. When we left at 6:30 p.m. there was still only one table occupied. We then asked the sturdy, short woman with dark hair and glasses why she hadn't told us the truth. She completely freaks out and tells us to leave the restaurant immediately. Anyone who has employees like that simply doesn't want any guests! She didn't want to tell us her name for good reason. After thousands of restaurant visits, we were actually thrown out for the first time. She wishes us a nice life and said that we probably don't have any fun in life. That was now her explanation for HER wrongdoing. We always went to eat at the Freudenhaus when we were in Hamburg, and of course this was the very last time. Unbelievable!

Tolle Location auf dem Kiez. Service nett, freundlich… leider aber auch teilweise überfordert…da die Hütte sehr voll war. Essen war gut, reichlich und appetitlich angerichtet. Leider betrug die Wartezeit für das Hauptgericht über 1 Stunde, was die Stimmung leider doch getrübt hat.

Immer wenn wir in Hamburg sind, müssen wir mindestens einmal hier essen! Es ist einfach ein Genuss, sämtliche Speisen sind von hoher Qualität und einfach perfekt zubereitet! 😋

An "Old School" local Restaurant located in Downtown Hamburg St.Pauli with comfortable seats. Unfortunately the Atmosphere and professionalism wasn't at the greatest level. The food was delicious,it was very fast and well served.Toliets are clean but they don't have access for people with disabilities since they are in the basement. Parking is also hard to find.

The food is really unique! Even if the prices are really above average: the dishes are unique, creatively refined from the familiar, and sumptuous. What doesn't work at all: the service. We clearly came with four people who, even without much imagination, wanted to eat together as two couples. First we were given a full ashtray… ok. After the initial order, the waitress hardly came back to pick up more drinks or something similar. After eating, we had difficulty getting her attention so that she could cash in on us. When we finally got her, she was extremely negative about why we didn't say from the start that we wanted to pay separately. (Mind you, just separately for each couple, we even offered to simply split the bill by two if this would reduce your effort). She was even so bold as to accuse us of the fact that by paying separately we would be totally environmentally unfriendly and lead to more paper usage on her debit card machine (we couldn't believe it). Oh well. Because of the service, despite the delicious food, we will not be coming back. And of course I wouldn't recommend anyone to visit there.

Great little restaurant off the main strip in St Pauli. Really inviting inside, comfortable and tables all have some space between them which is nice. Friendly and efficient service, a great little wine list with all selections by glass and bottle. Menu was full of German classics and you need to come prepared to eat, the serves are generous. I had a delicious labskaus and unfortunately could not finish it all. Recommended.

Not a big menu but big portions. Very friendly service. When the door is closed it can get a bit stuffy.

Although the food was good, we had very poor service. An older lady with glasses was very unfriendly, complained to us, used a wrong tone and was unwilling to accept feedback. The other lady was very friendly. We will definitely NOT be coming back as this unfriendliness affected the atmosphere.

Very interesting beer variations, great ambience and at first glance not cheap, but more than justified. Very high quality food, great service with relaxed sayings. As you wish, keep it up.

Really expected something different. The quality of the food was okay. Service was impossible, it was not accepted that you "just wanted to order soup". Finally the bill was thrown on the table. So if you're looking for a bit of fun, you're in the wrong place here. No recommendation...

We read a lot about it and had high expectations, well, let's put it this way, the meat was really tough, hard to believe, a shame, value for money, incomprehensible, further comments, not worth mentioning.

We went there on a Saturday at 5:30 p.m. without a reservation based on a recommendation and were lucky to get a table for two people. An hour later the store was completely full. We had a very tasty labskaus and roast venison. Very large portions and super friendly staff. There is also great art hanging in the restaurant and the atmosphere is quite rustic. It's great that there are still such traditional restaurants in the otherwise touristy part of St. Pauli and that they can survive accordingly. Slightly expensive, but absolutely ok! Great team!

I was at the pleasure house again, we had a great table. As always, the waitresses were super nice and attentive. As expected, the food was very tasty, but as a woman you can't make the schnitzel, so I couldn't. Unfortunately I couldn't take it with me this time, sniffle, since we're further along afterwards. The ambience is a 12/10, unfortunately the food wasn't that great. Had the vegan schnitzel and it tasted more like potato pancakes. Plus our waitress really wasn't cool. It's a shame, but maybe you just caught a bad snapshot. 3*

We actually wanted to go to Strandpauli. But we ended up here because of the cloudburst. Nice height and stylishly decorated rooms. Top service. Medium-priced menu with local dishes. I was finally able to try Labskaus. A few drawbacks: When it's full, it gets quite loud, so you can't have a good conversation. Update: Been there again and still a very nice restaurant, with charm and nice service.

Gluten-free possible! When I asked over the phone, I received competent information about the possibility of a gluten-free menu. The planned meal was discussed with me on site and alternatives were offered. All the staff were very knowledgeable and I was able to eat the really delicious food at our Christmas party without any complaints! A dream for us celiacs!

The brothel and the entire staff exuded a German and middle-class atmosphere. The beer flowed freely and the food tasted excellent. We felt very comfortable as a group and sang the tank song in the choir at the end. We'd love to come back!

Wir besuchten das Lokal auf Empfehlung von Fabian Zahrt, danke Fabi🙏😊, und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Wir haben noch nie so ein superleckeres Schnitzel mit Kartoffelsalat gegessen, riesige Portion, herrlich luftige Panade. Und das in Hamburg, was ja nicht gerade für die Schnitzelküche berühmt ist. Der Service war top, sehr netter, zuvorkommender Kellner. Das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis stimmte auch. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall nochmal hierher, wenn wir wieder im hohen Norden sind. 🤗 Grüße aus Bayern

Locale caratteristico nel quartiere a luci rosse. Piatti molto abbondati e gustosissimi! Consiglio di provare il Pannfisch perché è davvero favoloso! Ottimo vino bianco della casa (simile al prosecco). Prezzi leggermente superiori alla media di a Amburgo, ma perfettamente giustificati. Il personale è gentilissimo e disponibile ad aiutare i clienti nella comprensione del menù.

Positiv: Die Bedienung war stets sehr aufmerksam und verstand es, Getränke an Frau und Mann zu bringen. Negativ: Duckstein in einem Limonadenglas zu servieren, ist genauso geschmacklos wie einen Wein im Wasserglas zu bringen. Zwei Stunden Zeit für eine Gruppe von knapp 20 Personen fürs Essen und trinken, das hat einen komischen Beigeschmack……eventuell ist es nur in der Weihnachtszeit so…. Essen war gut Bürgerlich, aber nicht herausragend.
