It was soooo delicious and the location was absolutely fantastic! It's totally worth it! If we're ever in Hamburg again, we'll definitely be back!

An absolute MUST-DO when in Hamburg. TOP-notch service, excellent food, and reasonable prices, with a lovely atmosphere. Unfortunately, it's so popular that you should always make a reservation. Before and afterward, you can enjoy an aperitif or digestif with a cigarette or cigar next door at the Freudenhaus Bar, which offers a breathtaking selection, and make for a very long evening.

We were absolutely thrilled: the atmosphere was fantastic and the menu was truly delicious. But even more importantly, the genuine, loving hospitality – fantastic hosts with "old-school" service. We'd love to come back!

We ate here after our Reeperbahn tour. We got a table right away. Very nice atmosphere, and everything was clean. The food was plentiful, very good, and reasonably priced. We'd gladly go back.

We received a very friendly welcome. The seating area we were assigned was a bit cramped. But that seems to be the case throughout the restaurant. However, the restaurant has a very special ambiance and is absolutely worth a visit! The food was very, very delicious! We started with some bread and a dip, which was also delicious. The food arrived quite quickly. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We'll be back.

Delicious food, served with great friendliness and charm, right on the edge of the hustle and bustle of the Reeperbahn. The food and drink menu is well-stocked and should offer something for everyone. You'll find meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes, as well as individual interpretations and combinations of uncomplicated and traditional dishes.

We ate here on a recommendation. Well, what can I say? The food is really, really good. Very tasty and everything fresh. Absolutely top quality. There's one downside: the ice cream wasn't that great. The service was also very nice, very friendly, and there was even time for a little chat despite the restaurant being full. Reservations are required, otherwise there won't be a seat. We'll be back.

A very special "brothel" for me. The food was delicious, although not in the lower price range, but the price was more than worth it. Unfortunately, a last-minute reservation was only possible outside, so it got a bit chilly in the evening. With more notice, we would have preferred to sit inside. Service was super friendly and also very accommodating to any food intolerances. We would definitely go back on a future visit!

Went there on a recommendation and booked beforehand. Service was extremely slow, and there was a gap of more than one hour between starters and main course. When we inquired when the main course would arrive we were simply told that that's just how long things take. No word of apology, no gesture of goodwill. Several tables adjacent to ours had similar problems with having to wait forever for their food to arrive. The main courses did arrive in the end (nearly 2 hours after we had entered the restaurant), and were not even particularly tasty.

What can I say… It was simply fantastic!

A good restaurant with quality and quantity of German cuisine (although it doesn't look like it in the photos, the portions are very generous). It has a cabaret-style setting, which fits in with the neighborhood. I lowered my rating because we didn't like how our waitress treated us. She was impatient and rude, even though we were friendly to her...

If you want to enjoy truly good, home-style German cuisine in the neighborhood, Freudenhaus St. Pauli is the perfect place for you! We had the "Olivia Jones" and the "Kalle" veal schnitzel and were more than satisfied with our choice! We'd love to come back on our next visit to Hamburg and try more delicacies from the menu.

The "Freudenschweinchen" (pigs of joy) and the roulades are a dream! The service is excellent, and the ambiance is very fitting for the neighborhood.

We sat at the Freudenhaus on the Reeperbahn on a wonderful evening with really good weather – and were honestly pleasantly surprised! The food was much better than we expected: fresh, delicious, and all-around perfect. The atmosphere was relaxed, the ambiance quaint and lively, as you'd expect on the Reeperbahn – but still with a high standard. We'd especially like to highlight the super friendly service, which made the evening even more enjoyable. Overall, a truly successful visit – we had fun, ate well, and will definitely go again. The Freudenhaus in the neighborhood absolutely won me over. The home-style cooking isn't just very good, it's really good – made with love and delicious. Ich war mit Freunden das erste Mal dort.Wir hatten einen Tisch für 4 Pax reserviert waren aber nur drei. Die Servicekraft wsr etwas sauer . Hätten ja anrufen können , dann wäre es besser gewesen.Hat aber mit dem Tisch geklappt. Hatten alle die Empfehlung des Hauses.War super toller Geschmack und supi Beilagen.Wie immer weiss man nicht wie Teuer das Gericht ist !!!! Ich kann das Restaurant nur empfehlen.

Good, authentic German food served outside in the beautiful weather – a truly delightful experience. The service was top notch with an attentive and friendly waiter who spoke both German and perfect English. All in all, a relaxed and tasty evening that is highly recommended.

Located near the Reeperbahn, the Freudenhaus is definitely not a tourist trap. Right from the start, I'd like to mention that reservations are essential. This is even more important in winter, as there are no outdoor seating areas. The staff are friendly and appropriate for the neighborhood. The food is good. The prices are higher than the area suggests. I understand why people like the Freudenhaus, but I'm not a real fan. For the money, I can be happier elsewhere. Especially if you want to avoid meat, you're in a bad place. You can find something, but the selection is abysmal. The good review nonetheless. It was delicious, and I don't regret the visit.

I know from 5 years ago that the food here is good and the atmosphere is nice. Five years ago, the service was excellent. My daughter and I got a table without a reservation and were very well looked after. This year, I wanted to go to this restaurant with my husband. We had already reserved and confirmed it at home days before. We arrived at the restaurant, and even though the entire place was empty, I received a message saying I hadn't made a reservation. I was accused of being a liar and they had no room for us. I wouldn't go to this restaurant again, even if it were the only one in all of Hamburg. Very disappointed.

The ambience could be described as stylishly wicked. However, the inn has nothing to do with a "brothel"; it's a very good restaurant for those who want to experience the Hamburg atmosphere with a high-quality culinary experience. The Labskaus was top-notch, and the other dishes were also delicious. The service is prompt, as well as very friendly and amiable. Highly recommended!

A brothel for culinary delights – on the Reeperbahn. You couldn't choose a more fitting name! Hearty and delicious German cuisine. The prices are a bit high for me, so I'm deducting a star. The service is fast and has a certain pub charm. The decor is rustic and "old-fashioned," but cozy. The average age was surprisingly high. Or is that really surprising?

We discovered this restaurant by chance. Unfortunately, there were no tables available on the first evening, so we made a reservation for the following evening. Reservations are highly recommended, as it seems to always be full. The ambiance is wonderful. You can see photos of many celebrities who have visited. The staff is friendly and attentive. The food is delicious, fresh, and plentiful. The prices are a bit on the high side.

We were with a group of > 10 people and had reserved well in advance. We had to choose a menu due to the number (questionable, but ok). My Wiener Schnitzel was very crispy and the portion was too small for me. The starter soup, on the other hand, was very tasty. The service was extremely unfriendly. We were one person less than originally stated (as I said, still >10 in total). I didn't specify this change. Well, there was something going on. "I WOULD HAVE HAD A TWO MORE TABLE FREE THERE11!!!" Our suggestion to separate the existing table for two from our blackboard was rejected with the message "YOU DON'T HAVE TO EXPLAIN MY JOB TO ME11!!!1". Well, okay. The sound makes the music. So, next time, eat somewhere tastier somewhere else.

Update: Food still unbeatable. Service unfortunately became inattentive from the greeting to the farewell. As if we were air. Friendly but completely inattentive. Too bad.

No visit to HH without a meal at Haus der Freude, where I have seen a waiter again and again for 20 years. But be sure to reserve. Very pleasant, reasonable prices, a must at asparagus season.

Spontaneously organized a place for us, super nice service staff, absolutely great. Food was super tasty and large portions. There are also very entertaining ideas that live up to the name Freudenhaus.

Unfortunately, our steak, which was supposed to be cooked well, smelled rotten and tasted absolutely disgusting. One was medium and tasted good. When we complained, the very rude employee said the steaks were supposedly from the same strand. Which is definitely a lie; such differences in taste are not possible. The kitchen noticed the smell and brought out a new one, but the chef must have noticed it while cooking. I'll never eat here again; I took a piece with me just in case.

We were warmly welcomed and there was immediately a feel-good atmosphere. Stylish furnishings and suitable for the location. The food was delicious, freshly prepared and to the point. Really well coordinated. Delicious drinks and happy. Good price-performance ratio.

Wir waren nach einer geführten Kiez-Tour hier. Die Einrichtung ist originell und gemütlich, der Service freundlich, kompetent und nicht aufdringlich. Die von uns bestellten Speisen (sowohl Fisch, als auch Fleisch) waren schmackhaft zubereitet, das Hausbier dazu passend. Preis-Leistungsverhältnis ==> ok Empfehlung ==> vorher reservieren

Tiptop - super tasty and highly recommended!

I just came from the restaurant. Unfortunately totally disappointed. The food is overpriced for its quality. And the staff cheeky & annoyed. We were looking forward to good food because we had experienced it there years ago. Not again. Luckily there are enough good restaurants in Hamburg.

Habe auf meiner mehrtägigen Tour über den Kiez ein paar Einheimische kennen gelernt, die mich unter anderem in die Freudenhausbar mitgenommen haben. Wie auch in den anderen Locations waren hier vorwiegend St. Pauli Urgesteine zu finden, was einen eigenen Flair ausmachte. Die Bar verfügt über eine unglaubliche Auswahl an Whisky und Rum, die sich jeder, der hochwertigen Spirituosen zugetan ist, nicht entgehen lassen sollte. Ihr könnt euch problemlos vom Barmann beraten lassen, er weiß, was er tut und hat Spaß an seinem Job.

Great German food in a cozy place.

The house wasn't really a brothel, but plays with it. Here I ate the best Labskaus I've ever had in my mouth. Food came quickly. The service was relaxed, friendly and the atmosphere is fine. You could complain that it gets a little tight at times, but that's part of it.

The reservation was taken over the phone by a smoky, friendly voice. Many people have said that the Freudenhaus is a wonderful restaurant - and I can now happily confirm that. The roast beef was tender as butter, the mashed potatoes and red cabbage were tasty and of excellent quality. The Wiener Schnitzel was golden brown, crispy and slightly buttery on the outside, while the meat on the inside was tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. The dishes selected were by far some of the best traditional German dishes I have eaten in a restaurant in a long time! The nice ladies in service had Nordic charm, and the colleagues in the kitchen obviously had a lot of fun with their work - everyone at the table could taste that. We are thrilled, full and happy. A great restaurant away from the Reeperbahn and a real insider tip that we will definitely visit again!

This place is a gem, with food quality in top, impeccable service, very cosy and pleasant atmosphere, prices appropriate. Absolutely would come back and eat there again. I felt lucky, but it's a good idea to book ahead.

Nice little restaurant with great staff. Out of curiosity, we tried Labskaus. Wasn't ours. The veal schnitzel is very expensive at over 30 euros, but was very tasty.

Wir waren zu einem Konzertbesuch in Hamburg, am Vorabend waren wir zum Abendessen hier. Von der telefonischen Reservierung bis zur Verabschiedung war alles super cool und angenehm. Ach ja, das Essen war klasse , ich hatte aufgrund einer Empfehlung Labskaus als Vorspeise, spektakulär, besser geht's nicht! Beim nächsten Besuch gehen wir vorher in die dazugehörende Bar, da hängt ein klares Statement im Kasten mit der Getränkekarte!!!

Ein sehr originelles und gemütliches Restaurant neben der Reeperbahn mit freundlicher, kompetenter Bedienung. Wir bestellten knusprige Ente und Panfisch. Die Portionen waren reichlich und alles war ausgezeichnet, eine interessante Auswahl an ausschließlich deutschen Weinen, auch daran nichts auszusetzen.

We ate here before going to the theater and were absolutely thrilled. Service great, food large portions. The chaotic style with the tablecloths and cloth napkins just fits in there.

We were there during the week with 5 people. You definitely have to make a reservation here in advance, the restaurant was completely booked and constantly. A very nice restaurant with a lot to look at. The service was very friendly. Unfortunately we can't say anything positive about the food. My plaice was more than cooked through, the fried potatoes were black and not crispy. The cucumber salad was quite salty. Everyone else ordered steak. Medium was well done and rare was medium. We got dessert or coffee specialties on the house, but again it wasn't outstanding. The coffee was brewed at too high a temperature and therefore very bitter.

It was a very nice evening. The service was friendly and tried very hard to help and advise. The food was delicious, even though we had to wait quite a bit. In addition, the duck was still a bit tough. Nevertheless, all in all we were full and satisfied.

The food is really tasty, the portions are decent and there is Guinness. In return, the prices are sometimes really steep. Unfortunately - at least now during the Christmas season - it is sometimes unbearably loud and therefore not really comfortable. I also find it completely understandable, but inappropriate in terms of expression, to get groups to leave with "I don't want to push, but I need the table" while one of the group is still eating. Sure, you want to prepare for the next reservation, but the tone - even in the neighborhood - could definitely be a little friendlier.
